Starting point is 00:00:00 For a few years, in the 1970s, the Mr Asia syndicate made millions. Heroin creates its own market. It acts like a form of play. Until jealousy, betrayal and murder brought it all crashing down. Then he just pulled out a gun, shot her in the back of the head, and then said to Wayne, you're going to help me bury her. This is Mr Asia, A Forgotten History. All episodes now available on iHeartRadio, Apple, Spotify or wherever you get your podcasts
Starting point is 00:00:29 The ZM Podcast Network 5, 6, 5, 6, 7, 8 It's your T-T-O-T-O You can take it hard to go She didn't even play it last night Hi, Brie and I are in Sydney, we're sitting in a very fancy hotel room She didn't even play it last night. Hi, Brie and I are in Sydney. We're sitting in a very fancy hotel room.
Starting point is 00:00:52 You know it's a fancy hotel when the hotel has its own fragrance. Oh, you walk in. You walk in and you smell it straight away. And have you noticed all of the products, like body wash, it smells incredible. Yeah, they've got signature scents. Yeah. We're here for Wicked. We actually, while we're recording this, it's incredible. Yeah, they've got signature scents. Yeah. We're here for Wicked. We actually, while we're recording this, it's 9am in Sydney and we're getting ready to go and talk to all the stars.
Starting point is 00:01:13 I don't have all my questions sorted yet. Neither do I. But this is the thing, right? These things make me super anxious and nervous. It's not a natural no you know relaxed situation you have to try and strike up chemistry with these guys in just seven minutes yeah to get anything good there needs to be a bit of rapport or a scope and they're not going to give a scope to everyone no of course not so and the thing is I feel like, and you and I are the same,
Starting point is 00:01:45 the more structured you are, the less opportunity for that to happen. But. So if you prep too much. Yes. You don't allow for that natural. But if you don't prep enough. Then you're fucked. Then you're fucked because there's no, if they don't give you anything,
Starting point is 00:02:01 then you've got nothing to fall back on. Which is the most awkward thing in the whole world. You know when I went to Taiwan before we started the show, it was just before, and I went by myself. Yeah, Paul Rudd and... Evangeline Lilly. That's right. You know how many minutes I got with each?
Starting point is 00:02:20 Wasn't it like three and a half? Three and a half minutes. Like I got to ask two questions, barely. Which is essentially what we've got today, because we have two stars at a time for seven minutes. So if you average it out. You know what's really awkward? And I always think this because all the junket videos for the Gladiator film have just come out. And I always find it so awkward. And I think the best interviewers do it the best where you,
Starting point is 00:02:48 because there's two people. And if you leave one person completely out of it, like to be able to bring everyone into the conversation is a true art. The most awkward version of that was when we had Channing Tatum and the other guy. Oh my God, yes. For that dog movie. And it was a big surprise. We sprung this Channing Tatum and the other guy. Oh, my God, yes. For that dog movie. And it was a big surprise.
Starting point is 00:03:07 We sprung this Channing Tatum interview on brief. It was the first time that you'd got to speak to Channing. And so obviously we weren't going to talk to the director. Since all of that shit of us going to LA. Yeah. And it was him and, you're right, it was the director. And we only had 10 minutes. We had 10 minutes, which was helpful.
Starting point is 00:03:22 Which is, yeah, a bit of time. And the movie company wanted to talk about the movie. We wanted to talk about your relationship with Channing Tatum. Yeah. So Ben and I had to be quite creative. We were like, hey, we really want to talk to Channing about this thing, but I promise we'll get some movie shit in there. Crowbar in some of the movie.
Starting point is 00:03:40 So then towards the end, I went to the director. I was like, oh oh there's a great friendship between those two something like this um and this movie is about friendship too isn't it right and he knew exactly what we were doing he was really good about it to be honest um and i couldn't i couldn't fucking help you because i knew nothing about it because it was sprung on me so i was like oh you you generally had done no prep so i was just sitting there being like, well, I can't do anything about this. But it's interesting, though, because that video has gotten millions of views.
Starting point is 00:04:12 Because it was real. Because it was that. And you'd hope that some of that would translate where people would be like, oh, I might go watch that film after they watched, you know, the video of Channing Tatum. So what's our opening line for Ariana Grande? And Cynthia Erivo. You guys ate and left no crumbs.
Starting point is 00:04:30 How do you feel about that? Provided you say it, I feel fine about it. Because I think, I think. You do that and I'll just be going. Do it. They will love it. Cynthia Erivo, a queer woman, will eat that shit up. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:04:45 Maybe. Or. Do you want me to pretend to be queer for the interview? Hey, you do what you want to do. Okay. Should I dress you in some of my clothes? Should I do drag? Hey, one of the people last night who is doing the junket today.
Starting point is 00:05:02 Yeah. Said that they are putting this full costume on. And we're just going to be too. I know. And they're going to be like, oh, these two don't fucking know what they're talking about. They don't know the film. So we have to, what are we going to do? We are going into our interview.
Starting point is 00:05:18 I'm shitting my pants. To be honest, I just want to be able to relax. And you know what I feel like they'll love? If we can bring a little bit of, you know, not professionalism. Unprofessionalism. Yes. Oh, that was a coffee burp. Excuse me.
Starting point is 00:05:35 We have the ultimate up our sleeve. We've just been told we're not allowed to use it. We have the video of your mum singing Ariana Grande. Have you downloaded it? I haven't. You need to download it. I'm scared. In case the opportunity comes up. Have you downloaded it? I haven't. You need to download it. I'm scared. In case the opportunity comes up.
Starting point is 00:05:47 Are you? Well, I feel like it's going to be you right at the end. No, it needs to be you. Hey, we should test something. I thought about something because there was a question you were going to ask her about doing impressions. Yeah, yeah. We should test it now and you see if you like it.
Starting point is 00:06:02 So you were going to say. So I would do it as the last thing i'd go yes i'd go because they don't want us to do any gimmicks or games or anything but this is essentially a gimmicky game yeah so i'd go hey this was fantastic we really appreciate um your time just before we go your impressions uh catching heat around the world at the moment i thought after speaking to two new zealanders For seven minutes You might like to have a chance At impersonating a New Zealander Ariana Grande
Starting point is 00:06:27 And then she hopefully She'll go I don't And that'll be great too And we'll post that Yeah exactly Or hopefully she turns around With the caption Clint's big question To Ariana Grande
Starting point is 00:06:42 No I don't want to do that And then what are your thoughts on this? Because then if she's into it and she does it, I was going to go, it's so crazy because I actually am really good at impressions and I actually do a really good Ariana Grande. And then hopefully you'd be like, what the fuck is going on? And I'll be like like do you want to see and she'll go
Starting point is 00:07:06 she'll probably say no but if she goes yeah and I'll go yeah g'day it's me Ariana Grande I knew she'd hate it I don't reckon she'll get it oh she might get it
Starting point is 00:07:21 I reckon she's funny like her comedic timing and her she's been on SNL a heap of times. You need to make it shorter. You need to be like, that's really good. I've actually been working on my Ariana Grande. Okay, perfect. Do you want to hear it?
Starting point is 00:07:36 Can I show it to you guys? And I'll go, I need to get in character. Yeah, g'day, it's Ariana Grande. You just want Cynthia to go, that's perfect. That's it. And then we walk away. Wish us luck. God, we're going to need it.
Starting point is 00:07:57 Maybe you should do your Ariana Grande for Jeff Goldblum. 5, 6, 5, 6, 7, 8 H-O-T-T-O-G-O You can take me hard to go Play ZM's Brand Clint On Insta, Facebook, TikTok and live weekdays from 3 on ZM Play ZM
