Starting point is 00:00:00 The ZM Podcast Network. You ready for the next one? Another one. Another one. DJ Khaled. After party, after party, after party. Gather round children. It's a Brie and Clint podcast special for your summer break
Starting point is 00:00:16 where Brie has a ponderous question to ask you. So this is a question that I thought of with my own brain, right? And I feel like it's a pretty good question. Clint would agree. Yeah, you asked me yesterday. I struggled to answer it. Yeah, I asked Clint on our walk back to the car park yesterday and he went back and forth, back and forth.
Starting point is 00:00:35 So I'm going to put it to you guys, producers, and everyone else listening. So here's my question. What would you rather? Would you rather work five days a week monday to friday like a like a typically normal schedule of work yeah monday to friday for the rest of your working life until you retire or would you rather work just on the weekend so saturday and sunday for the rest of your working life just on the weekends but nothing
Starting point is 00:01:08 else in the world changes so all your friends all your friends and family your partners probably will be at work monday to friday games all the sports games or like a lot of well there's some concerts that are on weekdays but there's's concerts. Everything is still the same, but you just have to work two days instead of five days. What are you picking? Do I get paid the same amount? Yes. Yeah, two days.
Starting point is 00:01:31 Working two days. Yeah. I don't know if you've probably thought it through. I've worked on the weekends before. It wasn't that bad. No, I know. I know. But when you worked on the weekends,
Starting point is 00:01:39 you weren't like, this is the rest of my life. It felt like that. Because the key caveat is you can't change it. You can't change it brie said you can't change it here's where i got stuck is that i that the weekend is when i spend time with my family it's when my wife's not working and it's when my kids are home from school or daycare or whatever so that's our time and if i had to work it so that i could have five days to fuck around during the week. Well, you could hang out with your kids because they wouldn't have to be at kindy.
Starting point is 00:02:08 What? Oh, that's a good point. What do you mean? It's a good point. Well, you could take your kids out of kindy. Yeah, you'd be a full-time dad. They wouldn't have to go to daycare. They have to start school next year.
Starting point is 00:02:17 I can't take them out of school. Fine. Well, you can. You can homeschool them. No. Yeah, that's fair. Wait, were any of you guys homeschooled? No. No, that's fair. Wait, were any of you guys homeschooled? No, absolutely not.
Starting point is 00:02:28 Nothing against people that are. Why are you making that face? It's my conundrum. Yeah, that's fair. Like everybody gathers on the weekend. Barbecues with friends. But I'm assuming you're doing like a nine to five, right? Yes.
Starting point is 00:02:44 So you can still hang out. You could even move it earlier to an 8 to 4 and you're free in the afternoons then. No, don't fuck around with the rules. You can't change the schedule. What's the schedule then? 9 to 5. 9 to 5 Monday to Friday or 9 to 5 Saturday to Sunday. I'm going to leave at 4.30 because I'm a bad worker.
Starting point is 00:03:01 So you'll go on weekends, two days a week? God, your body's Going to be better off though Yeah I feel like Everything will be better off I'll be in the gym all the time I feel like I'd have to Pick the weekend
Starting point is 00:03:11 I would And if you could Like I used to work Fuck that'd be the life Late afternoon So when you're at the mall Like during the weekdays No one else is there
Starting point is 00:03:19 There are radio shows That only do the weekend Like there's like News shows And talkback shows Where their full-time job is to work. Yeah, that's the dream. And they do one show on a Saturday or a show on a Saturday and Sunday. They have to prepare their show throughout the week.
Starting point is 00:03:34 Who came up with this shit concept that it's five days on, two days off? Yeah. Henry Ford, I think. It should be four days on, three days off at the least. And a siesta when we are working. Four on, three off. That's what it should be like. Do you reckon it'll ever change to that?
Starting point is 00:03:53 No. No? I have hope. It's too far gone now. And also, if a company changes it, they will lose their competitive edge to a company that refuses to change it. So if you're Microsoft and you go, my company only works four days a week, then fucking Dell will just go, oh, we're going to work five days a week
Starting point is 00:04:12 and we're going to be 20% more productive than you. So I can't remember where I heard this, but I think it was Ryan, my boyfriend, who told me there was a workplace that trialed four day, three day. Yeah, it was a Kiwi trialed four day three day yeah it was kiwi company there you go and the product productivity was if not better but it didn't dip yeah paid normally people worked harder because they wanted three days off but but the problem with that was that they think people might have just worked harder to keep that to get that rule to stay like we have to do as hard as we can in these four days so that they'll implement it permanently and then when you do it implement it permanently people
Starting point is 00:04:50 just revert to their normal effort yeah levels yeah so i do think oh i feel like it's it's so rare these days to see a company that really looks after their staff like that really cares but isn't it interesting when you do hear like because there's friends of mine where they're like the company i work for really cares about us and really looks after us and it the productivity companies like that is through the roof and the loyalty of staff and the loyalty and like people don't leave places like that you know know, because they don't want to. Yeah. Because it's, like, there was a friend of mine,
Starting point is 00:05:29 this was a fair few years ago, she worked for this company, and they would take them on a holiday every year. Oh, fuck that. No, thanks. Oh, never mind. I'll go on my own holidays. Give me money so I can book my own holidays. It was a working holiday.
Starting point is 00:05:44 Yeah, right. What would you rather? Stay here and work or we go do the show from Fiji for a week? I'm keen for that. Yeah, that's what it was. I thought you meant it was like my holiday. They're like, this Christmas everybody's going to Bora Bora. Yay, Bora Bora, but also
Starting point is 00:05:59 generous. On a holiday for work and get them away from... Right, okay. Well, let us know your decision. Well, nice to know you don't want to go on holidays with us. That's not what I meant. Yeah, fuck you. We'll go on holidays. That's not what I meant. Who wants to go to Bora Bora? Yeah, but not with Clint. Clint's not invited.
Starting point is 00:06:15 We had fun. Clint's like, fuck! I take it away! I want to go Bora Bora
