Starting point is 00:00:00 The ZM Podcast Network. Hi everybody and welcome to the Brianne Clint Podcast. I know I sound like a broken record, but did anybody buy a lotto ticket over the weekend in hopes of winning the $24 million? Oh, I forgot. Did you know it was $24 million? I did and I forgot. Was it $24 or $27?
Starting point is 00:00:21 $24. I did buy a ticket and I literally cried when I didn't win. One person. One person. Did they? Where from? Lower Hutt. $24.25 million.
Starting point is 00:00:32 Oh, God. Yeah. Incredible. Just tell them that. Incredible. I reckon. Do you guys pick your own numbers or do you let them pick them? No, I don't pick my own numbers because someone told me that once you start picking your own numbers,
Starting point is 00:00:46 you have to buy a ticket every week because imagine if your numbers came up and that was the week you hadn't bought a ticket, you would just be devo. Yeah, true. You'd be like, I've never been closer. I just feel like they don't give me good numbers. Oh yeah, okay.
Starting point is 00:01:00 Like it's rigged. Well, you can pick your own numbers. You can pick a line of your own numbers. Yeah, and I've done that before. And then randomise the rest. Yeah, you can pick your own numbers. You can pick a line of your own numbers. Yeah, and I've done that before. And then randomise the rest. Yeah, I've done that before too. Has everybody watched the David Beckham documentary? Not yet.
Starting point is 00:01:11 There's a bit in it where he signs his first contract with Adidas. And he's not rich at this stage. He gets paid. But he is talented. And man, Adidas ripped him off, to be honest. They paid him £50,000 to be an Adidas ambassador. But it's all relevant, though. Why?
Starting point is 00:01:28 It's all relevant for, like, that was a long time ago. That was in the 90s. Yeah. And he was also not a big star, like you said. Yeah, true. So I reckon it was a decent-sized contract. Probably not, you know. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:01:41 But it was also the start of that type of thing happening like where brands would reach out to just like one player on a football team or like you know and start to do those deals i just think eddie dest had been out of the deal than david beckham did oh i'm sure adidas have looked after david beckham don't you worry about that um he said that he got paid fifty thousand dollars for the eddie dest deal and he went out and he bought a BMW for $50,000. Yeah. The day that he won it. The same day.
Starting point is 00:02:10 Yeah. Yeah, the same day that he got the money. Apparently he just used to spend his money like crazy. Like he'd get money, spend it, get money, spend it. There's other players from his era on the documentary like Gary What's-His-Face and what's his face? And what's his name? Gary Neville, Gary Neville? From Man United.
Starting point is 00:02:30 Yeah, is it Gary Neville? The guy that he like played alongside. His mate. Yeah. Yeah, and he says, man, we all thought he was crazy. We were like putting some money away for our retirement or like saving up for a house or something, which is the smart thing to do.
Starting point is 00:02:43 But then I look at it, I'm like, yeah, but David Beckham spent his money being swaggy and maybe that was the better investment. He made himself more valuable because he bought cool things. David Beckham made himself into a brand. He made himself into this marketable, like unachievable thing that everyone wanted to be and that makes you, you know, sought after from brands.
Starting point is 00:03:08 People want that. Maybe the other guys should have done it too. Maybe that would have boosted their… Yeah, but they don't look like David Beckham. And that's what it comes down to, eh? That's what it comes down to. At the end of the day, some people are blessed. And unfortunately, you know, if David Beckham didn't look the way he did,
Starting point is 00:03:26 would he be a household global name? Probably not. Would he be married to a Spice Girl? Because, yeah, well, there's amazing football players and they wouldn't be known globally, but he transcended football because of how good looking he was. And he's a smart businessman. Who do you think the world's biggest sports person is, fame-wise?
Starting point is 00:03:52 And so we're talking household name. Has to be a household name. Oh, God, that's a hard question. What do you think? I reckon there's probably only four or five. Okay. And I reckon it's David Beckham Because he's globally known There's not many bigger sports people
Starting point is 00:04:11 He's bigger than the sport David Beckham, Michael Jordan Yeah, Michael Jordan Ronaldo I don't know Which Ronaldo? Cristiano Ronaldo Who's the other one?
Starting point is 00:04:25 The original Ronaldo Watch the documentary Oh my god okay Lewis Hamilton Do you reckon the original Ronaldo is on the same level? No No I was going to say That's why I was questioning Claudia's Ronaldo
Starting point is 00:04:36 Cristiano Ronaldo yes But not the original Ronaldo Yeah Not globally known And then obviously Dan Carter Serena Williams could be on there. Venus Williams by Pepsi. Nah, Serena, yes.
Starting point is 00:04:49 Serena, yeah. But you'd know both of them if you knew Serena, wouldn't you? Yeah, but Serena's career, like, kept going. Yeah. So, like, more generations. Like, she kept going for years and years. I mean, yes, Venus did as well, but not at the level that Serena was. Did you see the King Richard documentary's movie, Will Smith movie
Starting point is 00:05:08 is on Netflix? Yeah. For free? Such a good movie. For free? For free? It's a very good film. Yeah, kind of got ruined by the whole smacking Chris Rock in the face thing. Kind of cut the run of that movie short, didn't it? True. We're still talking about it, though. Yeah, I still love it. I just think that's how Netflix got it, for free. Anyway, anyone else? For free They would have paid for it Yeah well you know
Starting point is 00:05:27 For free? Who else? Who else is like Hold on let me Google You're thinking like Worldwide famous Travis Kelsey Jason Kelsey
Starting point is 00:05:38 Has to be a worldwide And unfortunately It's only really Apart from Michael Jordan It's only really soccer apart from Michael Jordan, it's only really soccer that is the global game. What about Dan Carter? Yes, but no.
Starting point is 00:05:52 What about Rachi Bakoya? No way. No way. Nah. Not even close. I wish, but no. Can I say? Not even close. Okay.
Starting point is 00:06:00 What about Quay Cooper? Tiger Woods would be up there. Tiger Woods. Tiger Woods would be up there. Tiger Woods, yeah. Tiger Woods would be up there. Yeah, Tiger Woods. Lydia Ko? No. No.
Starting point is 00:06:12 Lewis Hamilton or nah? Michael Schumacher. Yeah. Oh, yeah, Michael Schumacher. Schumacher's a household name. And probably Lewis Hamilton now, but Michael Schumacher first. Lewis Hamilton still got a long way to go, I reckon. Has he?
Starting point is 00:06:31 Yeah, in terms of being like. As iconic. Yeah, like Michael Schumacher, like just. Because he's got the same record. I know, but. I know, it's weird, eh? And maybe it's because there's like the sport has changed or there's a lot of, like, really amazing drivers.
Starting point is 00:06:46 I don't know what it is, but, yeah, Michael Schumacher, definitely up there. Yeah. Any other ladies? Nope. Anna Kournikova? Oh, she was it for me. Simone Biles.
Starting point is 00:07:00 My sexual awakening. Yeah. Simone Biles would come close. Yeah, I reckon. She's definitely getting there, I reckon, because she's still going, right? She's insane. She's just come back. Yeah, I love her.
Starting point is 00:07:10 Two years off, she's just come back and then smoked it again. And every second trick is named after her. Over the weekend, she became the winningest gymnast, male or female, of all time. Oh my God, that's pretty crazy. And that's after having two years off. I love her. Damn. She got married.
Starting point is 00:07:28 What about Sam Kerr? After that FIFA, she's surely up there now. Yeah, I love her. Well, in terms of Europe, everyone would know her name in Europe. Like, she is it in women's football right now. Like, there's no one like that. Has there been another woman footballer like sam megan rapinoe yeah would is pretty up there like especially in america like in america like
Starting point is 00:07:54 she was it for the last i mean she's 37 now but for her career like the last world cup like there was no one bigger than her name like she went like the president was like they had they had them at the White House and stuff like it was a big deal there isn't a rugby player who enters the global conversation but the biggest rugby player would be Jonah Lomu he would be the one that that he he was the he was he's the world's poster boy for rugby was but there isn't one for rugby. Darren Lockyer. Rugby League.
Starting point is 00:08:29 Jonathan Thurston. There's another one again. Cameron Smith. Billy Slater. Sonny Bell. Sonny Bell! That'll do. If you've got any suggestions, you post them in our podcast group.
Starting point is 00:08:41 We'd love to hear them. Have a great night, everybody. We'll catch you back tomorrow on the Brinkland Podcast Bye bye
