Starting point is 00:00:00 Show requested, so here it is. As long as you've got da-da-da-da. It's ZM's Braynclin podcast. A friend of mine said, hey, can you drop me to the airport? It would save me 50 bucks. And I said, oh, I guess so. I wasn't doing anything with this hour and a half of my weekend.
Starting point is 00:00:18 Yeah, it's not like I've got a six-week-old newborn at home. Sure, I'm a good friend. I'll step up and I'll take you to the airport. I know the person it would have been, too. You do. They can get a baby. Frickin' obar. They, it's not even like they, they earn good money.
Starting point is 00:00:35 They own good money and they're in management at the company. Just put it on the company, Uber. Anyway, I stepped up to the plate and I was like, okay, fine. I went and picked them up from Westmear, a very nice suburb in Auckland. You had to pick them up as well? Yeah, I picked them up. No. Pick them up, door to door service.
Starting point is 00:00:54 Jeez, okay. Went and picked them up. And as we were heading back towards the highway, I spotted from quite a while away a celebrity. Okay. And you know at first when you see a celebrity, I'm talking like quite a big name celebrity out in the wild. My brain initially went, that looks like such and such.
Starting point is 00:01:18 Yeah. But the rational part of your brain goes, no, there's no way. There's no way. And as we got closer, I was like, oh, nope, that is them because there's this celebrity partner standing next to them. You got the double. I got the double spotting. Okay.
Starting point is 00:01:33 As we were driving, I spotted Hollywood celebrity Tyca Waititi and his partner, Rita Orra. You said it was going to be disappointing. Hey, hey, I would say they're big time celebrity. No, they are. Have you seen Tyker in the wild with Rita? Yes. Where? Lots of places.
Starting point is 00:01:56 Play. I have. Where? Playing touch at Cox's Bay. Well, whose party was that? Why wasn't it I invited to that party? Sounds like a good time. Yeah, right.
Starting point is 00:02:10 Okay, yeah, okay, let's put it into perspective here. Yes, they are Hollywood A-listers. Hollywood A-listers. Saw them. But they're our Hollywood A-listers. So? I've never seen them in public. I've heard that they live around Point Shev.
Starting point is 00:02:22 Guys, I saw a Grammy award-winning musician and you're like, oh my God, who? And you go, Lord, and you go, oh, yeah. I'd still be pretty excited about that. Would you? Yeah, remember that time? I couldn't shut up about seeing her at that cafe in Ponsonby. Yeah, exactly.
Starting point is 00:02:36 Yeah. Whereas people who go to that cafe are like, oh, she comes here all the time. Yeah, but still exciting for me. Yeah. And even more exciting, I saw these A-List celebrities, Tika Waititi, and Rita ORA doing very normal people things. Okay, what were they doing? They were lugging their suitcases and Tyca was tetracing them in the back.
Starting point is 00:03:00 of the car like we all do. An Uber or was it his own car, you reckon? Can't be sure. What sort of car was it? It looked like an expensive SUV. Okay, could have been this. Yeah, it could have been. But I mean, I thought that was pretty cool.
Starting point is 00:03:15 I remember my A-list celebrity encounter, outside of like doing an interview or something. Yeah. I was on a flight back from Los Angeles. Yes. And Anna Pac-Quin was on the flight. Yeah, that's pretty cool. By herself, well not by herself, but solo parenting on the flight with her twins.
Starting point is 00:03:34 Oh, that poor woman. And she had to get, and they were toddlers at this stage. First class? No, because she needed to sit in a row of three. So she had to sit back in Povow class with the rest of us. Cattle class. Yeah. So that she could have the row of three seats because they don't have that.
Starting point is 00:03:51 And you don't want screaming babies. But I was like, oh my God, earn a penguin. It's on a part. Let's get one of my favorites that I remember. from my very early days in radio is I got word that Lady Gaga was coming in for an interview. And this was early days for her. But I mean, Just Dance was out and it was huge. And I had turned up to the station late.
Starting point is 00:04:15 So she had left and I was devastated about it. And they said, oh, she might be. Because where the station was, it was attached to this shopping centre, this particular station. Right. And they said that apparently her and her team had asked where they could go get a bit of food, a bite to eat. And they told them that if they walk across this bridge area, they could get to the shopping center and there's a food court in there. And I was like, stuff it. Did you see Lady Gaga in a receipt beer sushi?
Starting point is 00:04:43 I saw Lady Gaga with, I believe it was a Chinese fried rice. Oh, okay. From the food court at the shopping center. Yeah. And that's just a classic Lady Gaga. I mean, she's a woman of the people. We don't want your regular celeb sightings this afternoon.
Starting point is 00:05:02 We want to see, we want your celeb sightings of celebs doing normal things. Yeah. You know? Who's the celebrity that you saw, but they were doing completely normal people things? And you're like, oh my God, Gwyneth Paltrow is just like us.
Starting point is 00:05:14 Yeah. She's taken out the rubbish. Yeah. She's at discount day at Gull, getting her 12 cents off a leader. I mean, you're not going to miss that. Dead end. Franklin.
Starting point is 00:05:24 Over the weekend, I made an A-list celebrity sighting as I was driving through the suburbs of Auckland I saw Tyca Waititi and his Mrs. Rita Ora packing their car with big
Starting point is 00:05:40 suitcases. As New Zealand's leading Rita Ora impersonator. Hello is me, Rita Ora. That was weird, they must have been like seeing Superman and Clark Kent in the same place. Yeah, I mean I tried to yell out to her out the window, but I thought better not. So we asked, did you see a celebrity doing a normal thing? Abbey's here.
Starting point is 00:05:56 Abby. Hi, Abby. Hi, guys. How are you? Good, thanks. What celebrity? Who did you see? So he's a, you know, local, but Dan Carter.
Starting point is 00:06:04 Yes. He came, so I was working at a pet food shop at the time. Yeah. And he was like the rest of us was buying pet food. Yeah. Love that. You don't expect Dan Carter to have to buy dog food, do you, Abby? No, I feel like that should be run through the all-black.
Starting point is 00:06:19 Yeah, they should be doing it. I need to know, Abby. Was he buying the top-quality food or was he a bit of a sting? Yes, I was working at a bougie raw feeding shop. DC from memory has a very cute Swedish velhund. Oh, he didn't have his dog with him. Yeah. I've seen his dog on the gram, Swedish velhound.
Starting point is 00:06:40 Wait a stalked dang card. And 10 out of 10 breed knowledge, Clint. But anyways, the issue was that I saw, well, I saw a customer and I was chatting to him like a regular person buying dog food. And then I asked for his phone number for the receipt. Yeah. in his account. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:06:56 And I look at it and I go, holy shit. And then out loud, I go, oh my God, it's Dan Carter. Yeah. Everybody turns and looks at me. More like, oh my God, I just got Dan Carter's phone number. My 13-year-old me was screaming. Abby, between us, did you secretly save the number in your phone? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:07:15 Yes, no, I should have. I should have. And all I was able to figure out what to say to him because I was, you know, shocked and can't live even recognize him was, my mom has a really big crush on you. He would love that. It's perfect. Sandra's here. Hi, Sandra.
Starting point is 00:07:28 Hi, Sandra. Hi, yeah. Hi. You saw a celebrity doing a normal thing, Sandra? I did. It was a head-turning moment. My husband and I were, and our kids were in an amusement arcade in the States in Santa Monica. Okay.
Starting point is 00:07:42 We were looking at, my husband and I were looking at each other going, is that, is that, is that, is that, is that Nicholas Cage? Whoa. Well, I was Nicholas Cage with his wife and little child, and they were just playing skiball. like a normal couple. Amazing. And embarrassing me so, so we did go up to him and ask for a photo, and he was amazing. He was absolutely lovely chance.
Starting point is 00:08:03 Oh, that's good to hear. Are you sure it wasn't Nicholas Cage playing a version of Nicholas Cage? You know what? He does speak like Nicholas Cage. Yeah. He sure it wasn't John Travolta in that movie Face Off? Yeah, do you know what I mean? Like, he does speak like himself on the movie.
Starting point is 00:08:21 Amazing. That's a good one. That's such a good one. Justine's here. Hi, Justine. Hi, Justine. Hello. Who was the celebrity you saw doing a normal thing? So after uni, I worked at a Schiefeld in the state in California.
Starting point is 00:08:35 Okay. And we had a number of celebrities come through, Adam Sandler. The funny guy from Full House, but I can't remember the name of, not Uncle Jee or Daddy. Uncle Joey. Uncle Joey. Yeah. The one that cheated on Alanis Morissette. What an idiot.
Starting point is 00:08:51 Yeah. But the best one was... I sold her tickets to a group of people and the woman went and paid and her card declined and I was like, yeah, no. And so the guy sent forward, handed his card over. I looked at it and it said, Justin Timblet. Oh, okay.
Starting point is 00:09:07 Whoa. Sign this credit card receipt that went in my pocket, not in the tilt. Justine. Incredible. That's amazing. We asked you see a celebrity doing a normal thing. Someone said we saw Richie McCaw getting groceries. Again, you don't expect Richie McCourt
Starting point is 00:09:22 to do his own groceries, do you? No. What about this? I saw Leonardo DiCaprio in line for a coffee in Queensland. Queensland's like another world. Isn't that? You know? Because it is New Zealand, but it's also not New Zealand. How crazy is that? Leonardo DiCaprio is a list. Jamie Dornan from 50 Shades of Grey is in Wellington right now, and I saw him hitting leg day at Simplicity Fitness the other week. He looked very normal. Well, I'd feel so bad about myself if I turned up to the gym and he's like I'm waiting for
Starting point is 00:09:54 Jamie Doran to do his set. And I'm like, oh God. Can you hurry up, man? Billy Connolly, a long time ago, eating ice cream, walking in the Wellington CBD. So good. I iconic, that's great. Someone said, I got to serve Sir Anthony Hopkins out for a wee dinner date with his wife in a little restaurant in Invercargill when he was here filming the world's fastest Indian.
Starting point is 00:10:14 That's so cool. That's amazing. Jack said, I want a trip to Jason Dorolo live in Sydney. And I ran into Prince Harry at 4 a.m. at the star casino at the pokey's. Amazing. But I didn't know it was him. That's incredible.
Starting point is 00:10:29 How sure are you that it was Prince Harry and it was not just some ginger guy? Oh, Prince Harry having a slap on the pokies, eh? But at 4 am. in a casino. It could have been anyone. It could have been anyone. Yeah, it really could have been.
Starting point is 00:10:42 I saw Mike McRobberts doing shitty parking in Kelston and pissing people off. Someone else said I saw Mark Zuckerberg walking his dog in San Francisco. Like a robot. I wonder if he had a, like a, I just picture him to have security around him all the time. I saw Brett McKinsey from Flight of the Concords at the Breakfast Buffet at the Quarice a couple of weeks ago. We were toasting our bread together.
Starting point is 00:11:07 My friend walked past and whispered in my ear, You're standing next to Brett McKenzie? And I hadn't realized. I wanted to fan out, but my friends wouldn't allow it. I had to play it cool like a regular Kiwi. Yeah, nice. What about this? I saw Rachel Hunter buying a meat pie.
Starting point is 00:11:22 Sick. The only thing would be better than that would be Rachel Hunter buying a trumpet. I saw Austin Butler getting cash out of an ATM on Ponsonby Road in Auckland. That's amazing. What film did Austin Butler do in New Zealand? I don't know. What about this? I spotted Johnny Knoxville at the beach in Malibu whilst on holiday with my family.
Starting point is 00:11:43 He was holding up a towel for a girl who I assume was his daughter while she was getting dressed. That's cute. I saw Josh Thompson from seven days at the chemist. and I thought I knew him and I awkwardly went over to say hi and then I went, oh sorry, I've just realised that you're not my friend, you're a famous person.
Starting point is 00:12:03 Someone else said I saw Stanley Toucci on the London Tube. That's pretty cool. I saw Lewis Capaldi sweating like everyone else getting off the tube in London. Oh, relatable. Yeah. Someone said my ex-partner was in Tony's Steakhouse
Starting point is 00:12:18 and David Bowie got a siggy of her and bought one back the next day. for her to her stall in Cook Street. Tony Steakhouse. Wait, so David. My favourite steak restaurant in Auckland across the road from the new train station. He's bummed a siggy off of someone there and then bought one back to her the next day. What a good bloke.
Starting point is 00:12:39 That wins. That's pretty cool. Play ZDM's Brian Clint on Instagram. On Instagram, Facebook, TikTok and live weekdays from three on ZM.
