You tapped it, so we're playing it.
It's ZM's Brian Clint, the podcast.
Friday I was away.
Brooke did the show by herself
because I, once a year,
take the day off to DJ my daughter's school disco.
They're very young, my daughters.
The eldest one is seven,
youngest one is five,
so we're talking primary school disco.
And is this an annual thing for you?
You've watched them over the last couple years
do the school disco scene?
Yeah, yeah, this is my third disco.
I'm the resident DJ for the school now.
Are they like, do they have clout?
You see them getting daft.
up as they're walking in because their dad's, like, that's pretty cool.
If your dad's, like, the run club coach, it's like, oh, but if your dad's the school disco, y'all.
Maybe.
Yeah.
Maybe.
And maybe, but for how long?
Like, I don't think you're getting depped up if your dad is the DJ at the school ball.
I'd maybe give it, yeah, maybe nine drop it.
That's a bit embarrassing.
Is your dad the DJ?
Why is he doing finger guns?
Anyway, it's still cool now.
Yeah.
It is my annual insight into what the kids are listening to as well.
Because they send me a spreadsheet beforehand where they go around.
other classes and they say, what songs do you want
the DJ to play at the disco? Oh, cool. And then I
get the list beforehand so I can prepare
some music for them. Yeah. And sometimes
I'm like, oh yeah, get that. Obviously
the Taylor Swift's are always huge.
Catseye is really
popular at the moment as well.
Yeah. But then there's some stuff I didn't expect.
This year, by
far the most requested song
by kids at the disco. Actually, not
song, artist. All of their songs,
Michael Jackson.
He's back in a huge
way and every Michael Jackson song too.
Went off at the disco.
Dirty Diane.
Oh no, not dirty.
We didn't go that deep.
They should have got the imposter to come.
Not imposter.
What's isn't it like a impersonator?
A personator to come in as well.
Oh my God, they would have died.
I think it's because of the Michael Jackson movie.
Or maybe it's just timeless.
I don't know.
The kids also, and my daughters have just got into this.
It's quite cute.
They've just got into Imagine.
Dragons? What is, what do they put in Imagine Dragon songs where kids are like, this is my
jazz? That genuinely surprises me. We're in the car the other day and Tui goes, um, Dad, could you
please play some Imagine Dragons on Spotify? Because I'm trying to become a fan. I'm trying. I'm forcing
myself because it's it right now. I mean, easy. They have good tunes. You can't lie.
My wife is trying to convince them not to be fans of Imagine Dragons. So,
She doesn't have to listen to it.
Oh, of course.
Do you think it came from the Imagine Dragons joke?
Because, like, Michael Jackson made in the movie.
The Imagine Dragons.
Where is the Imagine Dragons come from then?
Were they in, like, a big movie?
You mean the rude Imagine Dragons joke?
It's not rude.
It's just a funny little number that I like to pull out.
No, I don't think that's where the six-year-old's got their Imagine Dragons.
I mean, the Michael Jackson, isn't that not on par?
Okay.
The last couple of years, the big one has been Travis Scott.
Not this year.
They're over Travis Scott.
Oh, he's so, 2015.
Yeah, I played it and they were like,
yuck.
Lame.
Good one, Unk.
Yeah, oh yeah, you would have got Unc, choppedunk.
The real revelation this year was AI music though.
No.
Yeah, and this is what I meant by concerning,
the music that is concerning that was coming through.
A lot of the songs that were on the list,
I was like, I've never heard of that artist before.
And so I put it into Google and I had to look,
the not real artists.
No.
Have a listen to this.
When you see me, it's like,
Hello, and I'm like, hello, hello, hello.
This is an artist, well, not an artist,
it's AI called Palm Saints.
That's not Cody Simpson?
No.
And the annoying bit is, very catchy.
And actually a bit of a banger.
This sounds like Simon Cowell's new band, December 10.
Yes.
Like, Claudia, if this was five sauce, we'd be into it, wouldn't we?
Absolutely.
But it's not, it's fake, it's not real.
So we hate it.
It's not real.
They know that, eh?
They do not care.
They could not care because on the other side of that, their favorite song, all of their favorite songs.
And this is inside of people who don't have kids.
If you have kids, you're like, oh, duh, yeah, of course.
But if you don't, the most popular song with these kids at the moment is a song called Chicken Banana.
Chicken Banana.
Chicken Banana.
Chicken Banana.
Banana.
And Claudia knows the dance moves.
It's not hard, is it?
I feel like every generation has their chicken,
but we had pen, pineapple, apple, pen.
We had crazy frog.
Yeah, and it just makes no sense to anyone else, but just let it be.
Yeah, this is crazy frog.
Yeah, I know.
And I'm sorry if you're in the car right now,
and this has activated the chicken banana in the backseat of your car,
but you just don't know.
You just don't know.
So if you're an aspiring artist, just put out that song,
because you don't know it could be the next chicken banana for whatever reason.
Or if you're struggling, just chuck it into chat GPT.
Is this AI? This one?
AI could never.
I think Ash is real.
I hope.
