Our next guest said it better than I ever could, so I'm going to steal her words.
Go for it.
Please welcome to the show.
The first ever Wahine Māori winner of Celebrity Treasure Island.
It's Nick Adams.
There she is.
Oh my God.
You're the champion.
Has it sunk in yet?
No.
No.
It did.
Yeah.
And now it hasn't again.
Fair enough.
You've had this secret that you're the winner of Treasure Island for how long, Nick?
How long have you been sitting on this?
My God, like three months.
Wow.
Is this the hardest secret you've ever had to keep?
Yes.
I don't even like my friends telling me secrets
because I'm like, why would you put that on my shoulders?
Now, it's my responsibility.
But yeah, no.
And I'm online every day.
I'm talking.
Wait, are we swearing?
Yeah, you go on.
You're allowed.
We're talking.
We're talking shit every fucking day.
You know, online.
line and now I've got to watch my mouth.
Like, what that bad?
Well, you did.
I assume you did.
I didn't see it slip out on a live stream or anything.
I didn't either.
Has it made it on to Reddit.
So congrats on not only winning but keeping the secret next.
I reckon, no, I just was like, nah, stay busy, stay that busy that you pretty much
forgot that you even went.
Yeah.
And I mean, I got teenagers and I got a baby.
I mean, that's a full-time job right there.
Hey, so you won $100,000.
for your charity. Can you remind us the name of your charity again?
Child Abuse Prevention Foundation.
Hell yeah. How did they react to finding out that you won them $100,000 next?
Yeah, well, I got an email just this morning and I'm going to get a hold of them to catch up
and, you know, really put it to some good use. You know, I wanted to be for all the children
and I want to see. And I'm thinking, too, that is how I am. Like, I'm going to
follow that to the child,
to the parent, to the, you know,
so I really want
all that hard yak and the starving and all
of that. I did all there for those kids.
So, no, I know they'll put it to good use
and whether it's workshops for families
or, you know,
whatever else that we can conjure up,
I'll be there to make sure as well.
So, yeah.
That's, it's such an amazing charity.
Yeah.
I've just realized that they would have found out last night too that they...
Exactly.
Yeah.
I saw Louis filmed with his charity.
He filmed them not winning $100,000, which I thought was very funny.
Yeah.
I know.
I felt sad.
Just really quickly as well, like that charity is absolutely awesome.
His mom started the first school for teenage parents in Fungare.
and I got pregnant at 15.
I was at that school at 16, and it was the best ever.
Wow. And I didn't know that until we were on Treasure Island
and we were yawning around the fire.
That's amazing.
That's crazy.
You talked about starving just before,
and I saw Louis put up a post last week
where he showed he lost 11 kilos on Celebrity Treasure Island.
You were there for the same amount of time.
Did you have the same experience?
God, I wish.
I lost six
And then I think the first week out
I put on like 12
And I was actually thinking
I'm like God
I need to go back to that island
I watched you making homemade
Dubai chocolate before
I imagine that tasted extra good after Celebrity Treasure Island
Oh my gosh
Yes
That's why I'm on a diet
every Monday and Tuesday.
If you want to come back for another season,
next let me know we can get you back anytime.
I just want to congratulate you.
You're such an amazing winner,
so inspiring to so many people, mate.
And I, you know what really set it off for me
is because obviously people that watch this show,
they always have their favourites
and they want this person to win
or they want that person to win,
which is great because there's someone for everyone.
I read a comment section.
on the NZ Herald Facebook page, and no joke,
it's the only time I've ever not seen a negative comment about someone.
It was so positive.
And if that doesn't show you how loved you are by this country
and how inspiring you are, I don't know what does.
Yeah.
Way to make me want to cry, Brie.
Oh, my gosh.
I'm always trying to make you cry.
We didn't get you crying when you.
I'll tell you what.
So we're trying to get you to cry now.
I don't know.
Well, I tell you where I nearly cried when I saw their bloody rope thing on the fucking sand.
I was like, oh, my God.
And then eight times.
Oh, bro.
You just had, I loved the shot of you when you were doing the maze.
And you just had sand all over your face.
Man, I know.
And my hair, my daughter was watching.
She was, holy out, look at your hair.
I'm like, oh, you see that every morning.
I mean, really?
and we're surprised.
It's good for exfoliating, I've heard.
Oh, man, I hated it.
Some of the other finalists are posting the list of people
that they would like to see on Treasure Island next season.
And you've got a unique position where you know what it takes,
you know what sort of people do well in that environment.
Is there anybody that you would love to see on a new season
of Celebrity Treasure Island?
Call them out.
I would love to see my good mate.
You know, she's always dancing in that on social.
media tomorrow.
Yes.
She'd be funny.
That's Jesus, because she's such a princess.
I've got to see her struggle.
I have got to see her
on Struggle Street.
A true friend.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Well, I hope the producers are listening.
There you go.
There's a tip.
We want to talk to our listeners
today about irrational fears
based off your fear of sand touching
your feet.
Is that a fear? Because we talked to you
before the season.
started and you let us know that your biggest fear is sand touching your feet.
Did you manage to get over that from all the time you spent on Treasure Island?
No, did I just say my feet?
I meant my body.
Because, you know, even now, if I go to the beach, I'm like, oh, more good.
I'll wear shoes.
I wear gumboots if I have to.
At the beach.
Yeah.
Sand shoes.
But, I mean, what am I doing with my hands?
You know?
So I hated it on my hands, under my nails, in between the crevices that I did say should be illegal and it should.
Oh, man, I just can't stand it.
You know, a little story, my mum, she tells me that she used to be able to put me on the beach, on the sand.
She could literally go to the supermarket, go to the pokies for an hour and come back.
and I would be right where she left me with like my feet up,
my feet up in the air.
So that's how long I had to eat the sands.
Like a turn.
No, my mum would more so go to the housey.
It would be house.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
But that's how much, you know, I can't have sands.
I just, oh, but I'll tell you what,
I'll push through it for those children, for my children.
for my charity.
And you did.
And you did and we watched you do it.
Even though we could feel your insides going
the whole time.
I was just thinking,
rinse the cloth,
next, get, you know,
give it all you've got.
And later on,
you're going to be in a hot shower girl.
You can sit in that shower for an hour
if you like.
Yeah, hell yeah, you can.
Yeah.
Yeah.
And I think I used Louis' toothbrush
for under my nails.
I'm like,
She's not joking.
She's not joking.
She's telling the truth.
Well, we're very proud of you, Nix.
You put in a huge effort.
I think the whole country is with us when we say,
well done.
You're a very deserving winner of Celebrity Treasure Island.
And we just loved, well, I personally loved getting to know you a little bit better.
I know what you shared on that show wasn't even half of your story.
But the bit that did come across.
You don't often see people with stories like yours on mainstream television,
you know, not at 7 o'clock every night.
But your life is a life that a lot of people relate to.
So thank you for your honesty and thank you for putting yourself out there.
You were so good.
Thank you.
Thank you so much.
One last question for you from me next,
because I mean you and I spoke before the game started
and I know we spoke straight after you had won.
And something that I asked you,
at the start where I felt from, I didn't feel you had the belief in yourself that you could win it.
And I want to know from you now after you have won Celebrity Treasure Island,
do you have that deeper belief in yourself that you can do these things?
I know for certain, you know, and this is just my back story as well as my time on the show,
that it's okay to walk into something scared and have no.
confidence as long as you have resilience to give everything a try, whether you come out on top
or whether you go home on day one or go home on day two, you want to walk out of whatever
it is knowing that, hey, I was scared, I didn't have confidence, but man, I gave it everything
that I had. Whether I came out on day three or four or five, I still would have been as proud
as I am today because I know I would have given it everything that I had.
So, yeah.
I love that.
What a great lesson to live by for sure.
You're the man, Nick's.
You're the woman.
We love you so much.
Best winner ever.
Last chance to swear on the radio.
Do you want it before you go on?
Before you go.
I'm the winner, motherfucker.
That's Nick's Adams, the winner of Celebrity Treasure Island, 26.
We love you, Nick.
