Starting point is 00:00:00 The ZM Podcast Network. Play ZM's Fletch, Vaughan and Hayley. Hello, welcome to the Fletch, Vaughan and Hayley podcast. It's thanks to McCafe. Try barista made iced coffees available now at your local McCafe. Fletch, you would like to bring in an unpopular opinion. Yeah, it's not one that I agree with at all. Controversial.
Starting point is 00:00:23 Travelling is a waste of money. Unpopular opinion. Why are you bringing this into the room? Why do you... Travel is everything. Exactly. This is what I think. I love travel, but some people would rather stay at home.
Starting point is 00:00:38 Same. Save, save, save, save, save. And then think that travel is something you do when you're old and retired and you go on cruise ships. Are you telling me different people have different opinions? I won't hear it. No, we all must think the same. We're humans after all. Surely we all think exactly the same.
Starting point is 00:00:53 We should put this to bed, I think, and have one opinion that everyone can agree on and then we just get everyone on board with what we think. And if people don't agree, we lock them up in prison? Imprison them. Yeah, imprison them. I was we lock them up in prison? Imprison them. Yeah, imprison them. I was going to say imprisonate them. Impersonate them.
Starting point is 00:01:09 Where are we going to get prisons from? We'll have to overthrow the government so that the prisons are now our prisons. Oh, right, like a coup. For people whose opinions don't, yes, like a coup. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Okay, what do we need for a coup? Coup shopping list. Guns. Just an army. If we get the yeah. Okay, what do we need for a coup? Coup shopping list. Guns.
Starting point is 00:01:26 Just an army. If we get the army. How are we going to get the army? I don't know. We need matching outfits. That's sort of the core of an army is a matching outfit. I would start with matching outfits for a coup. What would your outfits be?
Starting point is 00:01:40 Well, I mean, I wear a sort of military-based outfit for marching, so I would put everyone in a short skirt, white boots. Dance tights. We're going to need a lot of uniforms quickly. I think we just go for a polo. What, an ASCALA polo? Yeah, and just some embroidery. Yeah, because it's casual because it's a short-sleeved shirt,
Starting point is 00:01:59 but it's also formal because it's got a collar. Plus, have you seen people in war movies? They always look so hot and they're wearing shirts. They look so hot. They're carrying around so much shit. They're either hot or cold. They're never at a perfect temperature. They're in an Egyptian desert or in the freezing Western Front.
Starting point is 00:02:15 Yeah. So getting back to the unpopular opinion. I actually thought about this recently, about the value of travel over other things. Especially now that we're in this uh you know global recession absolute shit a shit storm a shit storm yeah because i i'm i'm i've mentioned quite a lot that i'm renovating my house at the moment and every time i get a bill or a quote or something i'm like imagine that what that would get me in Italy. Imagine the flights that this could buy me. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:02:45 Imagine the sights I could see instead of this dumb house. But also I want a nice house. Yeah. I want a walk-in wardrobe. Yeah. I'm torn. I want it all. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:02:55 Can I have it all? The answer's no. That's the problem. But it's more, it's experience, isn't it, when you travel? Yeah, I know. But do you know what I think about? Like, I started traveling quite young for marching. I travel around the world yeah i've forgotten so much of it do you know what i mean like i think about some places i'm like right what was the first
Starting point is 00:03:13 place i went to norway i sort of remember moments of it right the feeling of it but so much of it's gone but is that on your memory i I have abused my brain. Yes. Given it a proper beating. Right. Okay. Do you know what I mean? That's what makes me sad about creating memories. That's why I choose just not to create any.
Starting point is 00:03:32 Right. Okay. And just live in a blur because you forget these things. And you know when someone tells you a story, they're like, remember we were in Scotland and we went and saw it. And I'm like, I just don't remember that. Most of my travel memories are food-based. Food-based or activity-based. Which is weird because it's like, oh, I couldn't tell you where this market was in Thailand.
Starting point is 00:03:54 I remember we took a tuk-tuk to get there, but I could describe for you in detail the little crepe thing I had. That says a lot about you, doesn't it? Yum, that little crepe thing. This Copenhagen, I could actually probably find it if I was dropped at the port, this restaurant that sold the most amazing soft-shell crab buns. Okay. I could tell you about that.
Starting point is 00:04:13 You remember the rice roadside in Cambodia? Oh, my God, delicious. The funny part about that is everybody had runny poos and spews, except I was the only one eating roadside food, and I didn't get poos or spews. Yeah, it's the best food. It's the best food. In Las Vegas, I could tell you about the breakfast buffets.
Starting point is 00:04:30 Yeah. I could tell you about Dusty's in Whistler, which was a burger bar and avalanche pizza, but not much else. It's weird. All of my stuff's to do with eating and drinking. Yeah. Six dollar Long island iced teas At this bar in Whistler
Starting point is 00:04:46 No one needs a long island iced tea This guy needs about $4 No you need four of them Yum yum yum Travels everything If you can do it You're going to see the world Do you think your memories of travelling
Starting point is 00:05:02 Are linked to A passion Do you know what I mean Like, do you think your memories of traveling are linked to a passion? Do you know what I mean? Like, mine is food. Yeah, right. The food of traveling. But some people might be like a photographer, so they might remember. A vista.
Starting point is 00:05:14 A vista. Which you kind of remember, but at the same time, it's not as good as the burger you had on the way to the vista. Yeah. Or mine would be the company. Like, who was I in the country with? Sure. Because you're a social person
Starting point is 00:05:25 What fun thing did we do There's something here We stumbled across something here You're a social person So it's all about who you're with And the memories are of the people That you experience them with Mine's food and drink
Starting point is 00:05:37 And Fletcher's is Sex Excuse me Excuse me I remember food he. Excuse me. The people he blew through. I remember food and I remember vistas. Thank you very much. Do you remember vistas and food?
Starting point is 00:05:52 And hotties. Yeah, what you saw and what you ate. I mean a couple of hotties. A couple of hotties. Another podcast in the bag. The plastic bag. Are they back? No, no, still banned.
Starting point is 00:06:05 Okay. They never left. That's where you come in with the line, boy. Boy, man, if you enjoyed that. Okay. Oh, and if you enjoyed it, give us a rating and a review and be sure to tell all of your friends. God, I need some sleep.
