Welcome to A Little Bit of Pod.
Producer Shannon witnessed something in public.
This has never happened to me in public.
Really?
Has it happened to you?
Has it happened to you?
Kinda, yeah. During a shift at work.
What?
Yeah.
You saw two teenagers breaking up yeah wait and
then you have been broken up with at a shift at work yeah have i not told you that story no how
were you working um i was a waitress and it was on valentine's day oh wow wow okay i was like
after the shift let's keep going and he's like Wait, did he say this in person or was it via text?
Yeah, in person.
He was a waiter.
Oh.
Oh.
Wait, you had a workplace romance.
Yeah, I did.
Out by the bins, you know.
Out by the bins.
Okay, that's romantic.
I've never heard something so sexy in my whole life.
Out by the bins.
I like to smooch dudes where maggots are.
You know it.
So what was happening with these uh two teenagers so i was
waiting for uber eats for dinner and what did you order i got peter pit which was a bit rogue
but it was yum okay um for dinner yeah it was after queenstown so we'd had a big travel day
yeah yeah interesting and you might have gone for something warmer. Well, so I ordered... There's a lot of details, it doesn't matter.
But so I was standing there waiting for my dinner
and I hear this girl, my guess was about 16, sobbing.
And she sounded like she'd consumed some alcohol,
not in moderation.
Okay.
Because here at the show,
always consuming alcohol in moderation.
That's the rule, yeah.
So yeah, she was slurring her words a bit, and she's like,
I just can't be with someone who's like you.
And he's like, no, I can change.
It'll be okay.
She's like, no, it's just not going to work.
And they are, like, very publicly on the side of Nelson Street,
one of the biggest streets in Auckland, breaking up.
And she's kind of shoving him, and he's trying to.
Oh, no.
It was just, like like classic 16 year olds
but i'm just standing there waiting for dinner that that was your age guess 16 yeah she seemed
like she'd had like three cruisers and he had had four and it was just it was over yeah so my whole
time standing there they were just kind of breaking up and then did you secretly love
listening to the drama of course i was messaging all my friends people are breaking up. But did you secretly love listening to the drama? Of course. I was messaging all my friends.
Oh my goodness, people are breaking up.
But yeah, I didn't get the conclusion because it was very back and forth.
I got my dinner before it ended.
Do you think he can change?
No.
You don't think people can change?
I don't think he could have changed from the quick vibe check I got him.
Right.
Yeah, he was...
Just a dirtbag.
Yeah.
Often it's the people saying I can change that can't. It's quite often, right. Right. Yeah, he was... Just a dirtbag. Yeah. Often it's the people saying, I can change, that can't.
It's quite often, yeah.
The funniest thing about it is they had another friend,
maybe one or two metres away, kind of landing against a wall.
Oh, like a third-wheel breakup friend.
Yeah, and I didn't think he was connected to the group,
but at one point he chimed in, and I was like, oh, he's, like, consulting.
So he was the guy's mate?
Consulting a breakup.
Yeah.
Yeah, I reckon you've got a classic case of takes his
boys everywhere itis yes yeah when you're dating someone and they always bring a friend with them
and you're like can that guy fuck off yeah it did feel like that so um i hope they're well
i hope they're well yeah yeah um this was also at like 4 p.m bit later I ordered my dinner on the way home from the airport
So I dropped my bags
Upstairs, came down
In daylight
A public daylight breakup, horrible
If only it had been the middle of winter it would have been dark
To hide the tears
If you're going to break up late afternoon, make it winter
Where the darkness can hide the tears
