When you're renting Yeah boy Or a house as well When you shift house Or you buy a house Yeah you buy a house and you move out Whatever When you're leaving a house behind

And you ring up your power company And you say this is our new address And this is our move out date And this is our move out day. And this is the date we're moving out. And they say, okay, cool. And then you move out. And then there might be a spot, like a two-week gap before the next person who moves in is like,

I would like power from Meridian or Rover? Nova? Lover. Nova Scotia? Have Lover. I would like power from you here is the address and here is the day I move in

now say there's two weeks in between they never turn the power off no is that free power yes because when you move into a house and say like me I've done it before with flats where I have forgotten

I've forgotten to hook it up to the power to get power sorted yeah there's always power there for a bit yes you don't move in to like a cold house I've forgotten. To hook it up to the power. Yeah. To get the power sorted, yeah. There's always power there for a bit. Yes. You don't move in to like a cold house.

No, it's almost like you don't turn the power on. You don't get the power under your name until you get a message saying the power's about to be cut off, right? Yeah, exactly. That would be the best. Because this is a friend of mine's moved out of this place. And when they moved out, they just cranked up everything so I bet all the heat pumps and everything

so that the air no they've got to pay for that no no but their name's off they said it's off they've moved into the new place it's the same power company

it's the same power account and they've moved the address whoever owns that property will get the bill no they won't they will sure they will because it's a rental

no I guess it's free so they'll be like well the landlord could bill it well we weren't there yeah we Sure they will. Because it's a rental. No one gets it. It's free. So they'll be like, well, the landlord could be like, well, we weren't there. Yeah, we've got our power. Yeah. It's not my responsibility. I don't know who did that. That wasn't me.

No, I think it has to stay powered for a while. I just think it's this grey area, right, where it's just free power. So I'm looking online. It's a denial. Everyone can be like, not me. There's a lot of posts on property websites with landlords and then also tenants asking these questions to tenancy services. Tenancy services say the landlord must pay for any utilities or builds shared by different tenancies.

Yeah, but that's not. And then other people are saying that in between tenants, it's the landlord's responsibility for power. Yeah, but I've never known a company. No, but you don't have an account hooked up to that house. Yeah, I know. So you actually, the power company doesn't know that you are not there or there. Right?

Who turns on the power in between? God. Vector? But they just leave it going and it just redirects. They come out and you'll be like, I'm taking over this place. At this day, they'll come and do a reading. Yep. Or if they've got one of those digital ones, they'll just tap into it and see what it was right but if the house is empty that's free power it is free oh i don't know can we come over and charge i was gonna say can we come over and do like put the stuff in the dryer

Heat up the hot tub. Do you remember that time, though? I just hadn't noticed I hadn't got a power bill for eight months.

Yeah. And the people next to me had hooked up to my meter in the apartment. So they were paying for yours? They were paying my power bill, and I was paying no one's. Me? Did you have to pay back? And then I can't remember what happened there. I had to get it sorted out by someone.

But did you have to pay anything back? Because I would hate nine months of power to turn up all at once. I think so. Or was I paying theirs? I can't remember what it was. But it was like a right kerfuffle. I remember it was a right kerfuffle. But power companies are wild. I remember flatting once once and saying i want to shut down the power account yeah

and they were like oh okay um what's the address and i gave it to them they're like we have no records of you being on our power come like and i was like when did you last get a bill i was like i don't know i just thought we paid it automatically yeah like direct but we weren't we just weren't paying power and i was like i, well, this is the address. And they said, oh, look, there's no record that we've ever hooked you guys up and you've ever been taking power from us. Wait, so who? Maybe you called a different company, Han.

No, we never got. We never got. We just walked. So you got free power. Yeah, free power. We walked away. Wait, did you go through all your bank accounts and look for it? No, nothing.

It was a flat account and power. I assumed it was a direct debit because we all put in money for it. Well, where's the money gone? Callum no i wasn't listening with callum maybe maybe someone's got a little extra spending money i don't know maybe oh my god that's wild offered wildly from having their name on the accounts and yeah but yeah they just didn't have any record of that property ever existing up like all of those things when you move flats and stuff it's oh my god the internet and then when they have to come round and you're like, oh. And then we had it when we got out, when we moved into our house and they drilled right

through the very front of our house. So 145 year old weatherboards. I was like, you could have put anywhere in this house to put that box. Who do the fiber installs? Chorus. Yeah, I think so. There was a, it might have been on Instagram or Twitter, there was poor chorus installs of New Zealand.

Oh, it's Facebook page, yeah, because they just drill into you. I'll just go through the front door. At our last place, I gave them the address. I said, oh, it'll be easy to spot because it's a renovation. And so the builders will tell you where you want it. And then the builder called me and he's like, oh, do you know the chorus guys are just drilling a hole in your neighbor's house? Yeah.

And they had, they just like bunged it amazing like they just had a concrete drill and they just put it through the side of the house okay i suppose it's the wild west out there busy it is well good luck um with your friends free power yeah give us the address yeah we'll come around and do the towels have an appliance party and really put a drain on the let's bloody roast some chicken and cook some towels
