Starting point is 00:00:00 From the ZDM Podcast Network, it's Fletchhorn and Haley's Little Bit of Pod. Welcome to A Little Bit of Pod. I was very interested to learn this week that my daughter said in her class, if you don't want to do the speech in front of the class, you don't have to do speeches in front of the class anymore. What? Sorry? I know.
Starting point is 00:00:21 Crazy, eh? You don't have to do speeches. You can just record yourself reading it in front of the computer. God, I hope I read it to the teacher. Or if it's real bad, apparently there was a kid that just didn't have to do it at all. When is this gen Alpha going to start being at the workplace? Because I'm fucking done. So, I'm going to be tired by then.
Starting point is 00:00:40 You won't be able to talk to them. This is the thing. It's like, it was so nerve-wracking as a kid. Even for me, I know I was super extroverted. You get so nervous doing speeches. But you did it because it teaches you to be confident and engage in the world. I had someone sum it up to me and I thought this is brilliant. Like somebody was going to let their kids have the day off.
Starting point is 00:01:00 for sports day because they don't like sports day. They don't like athletics day. This is somebody my kids went to school with. And the teacher said to them, that's like the kids who can't do maths, struggle with maths. That's like letting them have the day off because... They don't like numbers.
Starting point is 00:01:15 They don't like numbers. Yeah. It's like you've got to see other kids succeed. If you live in a world where you only ever witness yourself doing well at something and you can't handle other people doing well at something that you're not good at, it doesn't make for a good human.
Starting point is 00:01:30 Isn't it like for kids that go to gifted schools, eh? And then they're like, get taught that you're better than everyone, and then you're always succeed and then you get into the real world. You're like, oh, no one gives a shit out here. No. It's the wild worst. You're just explaining private school. No, no, no, no.
Starting point is 00:01:44 The next step up. Private school for the gifted. Yeah, for the gifted gifted. Oh, no. Get up and just say a speech. Yeah, they don't have to do speeches in front of the class. That's wild. You get any bloody ideas.
Starting point is 00:01:56 No. You'll be getting up there and... Your father's a famous talker. Doing a speech on it. What did she do this year? Abolishing Child Slavery. But a one of those ones. Jesus.
Starting point is 00:02:07 Last year it was like animal cruelty in the... Oh, I did funny stuff. I did tight fives. I did funny stuff. Some voices, a bit of light character work. Was she doing this child slavery speech in a mass-produced... School uniform? Athletics.
Starting point is 00:02:22 Her highly synthetic school uniform? Yeah, yeah. Who are like, what is this exactly made of? I assume it's petrol byproduct. And made at the hand of a small Southeast Asian child school uniform. If you look closely in the seam, you can see sometimes a finger. Yeah, yeah. They just got cut off by the banana.
Starting point is 00:02:41 And you say to your daughters, please don't start smoking, and it's not the smoking. It's the flame. It's just anywhere near this highly synthetic combustible top. That's wild. Maybe that's next year's speech topic. Yeah. Combustible clothes from the third world. All these kids are going to grow up and they're going to have to go to Toastmasters.
Starting point is 00:02:58 Yeah. And learn how to public talk. What are they going to have to do at work when they have to get up in front of, you know, the office and do a little presentation? No, no, no. Straight work from home, dude. Yeah, they're not going to work. Do it over a computer screen. Yeah, yeah, it's all going to be just sent through email, which honestly is our preferred way of receiving information.
Starting point is 00:03:15 If we're being honest. And a quick email. A quick little email. I recently found out my mother's ante meeting. She doesn't have to have a hell of a lot of meetings in her life. Yeah. And now that they're just kind of like, you know, farming, dry stuff, fine. very little meetings but she I said I rang her on the way home from work she's like you're late home from work today for you yeah I said yeah I've been in a meeting and she was like oh god how long did that drag on for I was like this is where I get it from like mother like son yeah yeah yeah
