From the Zedium Podcast Network, it's Fletchforn and Haley's Little Bit of Pod. Welcome to A Little Bit of Pod. I was recently in the beautiful bay of, I God, I always get it wrong. Plains. Lots. Plenty. Peltie. Horks Bay's Napier. No, Islands is the top.

Bay of Islands. Bay of Plenty. Bay of Plenty is Tohanga. Yeah, yeah. Oh, yeah. Yeah. Where's poverty bay? I don't know.

Struggling. Gizzy? Yeah, I feel like it might be around there. Yeah, that's the one above Gisbon. And then Orks Bay is underneath, Napier, yeah, yeah, yeah. And then Island Bay, Lyle Bay, now we're heading to your beaches in Wellington. Anyway, I was in, I was there for a sad reason. But actually, I was reflecting, a funer-a-roll.

I was reflecting on a funneral. It really did, really made me like, I just had a number of nice moments. A number of panic moments when I was like, who the fuck? Who's going to speak at my funeral? I'm not going to have any kids. Because this lovely lady who we were farewelling, huge family, you know, abundance of grandchildren. It was just this lovely energy. And I feel like when you have your funeral, you would have burned all your bridges.

I know. Like, it would be some sad, fucking affair where, like, the guy I'm shagging at the time's there, out of obligation, and to see if he can get anything. And, you know, I've got his wallet in my pocket or something like that. Yeah. Yeah, anyway. But it was nice. I was really, I was feeling reflective.

And then the next, afterwards, you know, you hang out and you have some sandwiches and whatnot. and then we were hanging, you know, and then I had to leave to go back to the airport. What kind of sandwiches they have? Yeah, was it good catering? Dude, the clubs at this funeral. The club sandwiches? Unreal.

Yeah, dude. I'm talking like, I'm talking, we've got 10 centimetres wide. Yeah, dude. We're rocking bread, egg, ham, bread. Yeah. Bacon, lettuce. What? Yeah.

of snapshots of life. Love that. And in one of them, the family was eating fish and chips. Now, I haven't had fish and chips for such a long time. And I was like, man, that's, you know, when you see something, you're like, that's what I'm having for dinner. Me when you're a kid, fish and chips were like the cheapest version of not eating at home? Yep.

Yeah, yeah, yeah. Not anymore. So, fucking expensive. You're telling me. So I'm driving from beautiful Facetana, if you know it, along the coast to, and I go through a small town that has a liquor store, a dairy, and a fish and a fish. and chip shop. Yeah.

And on this fish and chip shop, it claims best in the bay. Oh, okay. So I stopped. Big claim, because it's a big bay. Big bay, big claim. We're right by the sea. I stopped and I was like, oh my God. And it's four o'clock.

Like, well, I'm going to have it now. He's dinner now. Yeah. I go in and I was just, like, I literally have never heard of this town. I've never been there. I'm sure a lot of people know it may be go camping there. It was my first time. And I was like, oh, here we go.

Here's a gamble. I think it's the best fish and chips I've had in decades. Wow. What are we? Okay. What are we? What town? What's its name? Matata. Matata. Matata. Is it matata? Like frittata? Like it sounds like it's a frittata. I think it's Matta. Because I think we've got a macron on the last day. Matta. Is this down in the area? In the bay? Yeah, between Fokatani and Tohanga. And I just go in. And I just go and I was, I got a scoop of chips. And I got a fish burger. Because you're saying fish, best fish. But did you get fish? Yeah, in the burger. Oh, okay. I would have ditch the burger. I would have gone fish

Chips, crab stick Oh fuck you I know my best Mattata's beach goes real deep real quick Oh okay Real deep real quick But I didn't go to the beach but I got

This is moment's where I thought life is good. And then I picked up the burger and ate it and seriously. Slutty fish. Oh, yeah, good. Yum. The batter, gold and fresh fish. Traged out of the ocean against its will that very day. I know.

And the chip is crispy and I got a little bottle of, you know, sweet tomato sauce. Yum. Man, it was good. I got back in my car. It really sort of put a nice button and a lovely. So what do we, we got matatah here. The last day's got the macron. I think there's two fish and chip shops actually, a boo store and.

a dairy. Perfect. That's all you need. That's all you need. Auntie's takeaways, Matata, or Jaws takeaways, Matata? Shit, I don't know. It was white.

It was white. Okay, I can open, I like, you ever see those things online where those guys are like someone sends them a photo and I bet you can't work out where this is. And then some guy will spend like half an hour where it is in the world. It's like a sport now.

Yeah. Yeah. So there's aunties and Jaws are right beside each other. He's, cured of Auntie, because honestly, it was. Yeah, there's. Unreale. Oh, I would say aunties fish and chips and Matatah has slutty fish. It's got a big corrugated iron fish adorning the roof.

Of course it does. How else do we know that it sells fish? Yeah. In a small town. That's absolutely. Yeah, that's lovely. Hey, that's non-spawn, by the way. I'm not on big aunties, fish and chips, Matata.

Yeah, you're not an influencer. I'm not a hashtag Matata influencer. Do you know, some of Matata had to be relocated due to the risk that future climate change posed to the town. Yeah, probably. They use it as a little, how do we relocate a town out of the way of nature's fury. It was very close to Itchcom, which famously washed right away.

Oh, yeah. There's floods and stuff out of the hills. Yeah, wow. Shout out, Matita. I love small town in New Zealand when you find a little gold mine like this. It was a gym. Beautiful.
