Fleshborn and Hayley's Little Bit of Pod.
Great things are brewing at McCafe.
The perfect start to every day.
Welcome to A Little Bit of Pod.
As you know, I've been down in Wellington doing my show.
And last night I finished my show and I was going to have a couple of wines with my friend who works at the venue I'm at.
And he was dealing with audiences.
Discounts?
Yeah, dude. Yeah, my dude.
Yeah. 50% or
20 or free? $6 wines.
$6 wines.
It's like they're back at the RSA.
Yeah, and you know what? They don't do wine
glasses. They pour them into tumblers. It's
fantastic. It's really great.
Anyway, so I was waiting for him and he was ushering audiences
in and out. And one
audience went into the theatre so suddenly
the bar outside the theatre
was empty. Now if
you were in a bar
last night and you
were breaking
up in that bar, stop
listening now because I heard everything.
Oh no.
Breaking up in a bar.
And to put this into context
This bar is part of
Like a
Polytech right
So the theatre I'm performing in is in a polytech
It's in a training institute
It's at course
You done course
Yeah that's why wine's six dollars
Yeah
So I'm just trying to paint the picture
It's supposed to be sixteen but it's not good math.
Done bad math.
Yeah.
Now, just painting the picture that this isn't like a nice, classy Wellington bar.
This is just like a nice, you know, sort of bar.
It's a student bar.
Yeah, like a student bar or like a theatre bar.
Like you're just there to get a drink before and after the show and that sort of it.
So this audience goes in and I'm out there by myself
and I sort of don't notice when they turn up,
but this couple turns up.
And I was just playing on my phone and then I hear them
and they are going through the most intense breakup.
Like my ear tunes in and we're like one table over
from each other and I think maybe she's had a couple
of drinks because she's not lowering her voice to be like, there's a woman right there.
Me.
And she was like, well, it sounds like you've made up your decision.
So we'll just draw it.
We'll just call it that then, shall we?
And I was like, oh, what are they doing?
Are they breaking up?
And on it went.
Like, I started texting my friend being like, oh, my God, hurry up.
Like, I cannot.
I can't. Will you, like, hurry up because you need to like i cannot i can't will you like hurry up because
you need to hear this or i can't be around this no like it's just awkward that i'm here on my own
and i was like well i'm not gonna leave but it's so obvious that i can hear this no that was not
the first thing she said i'm sorry i did because i wrote it all down because i was messaging my
friend being like oh my god look what's happening. The first thing she said,
fuck you and fuck your mother.
Now,
I don't believe anybody's mother should be
dragged into it at this stage.
It was the mother saying you need to break up with that girl.
My ears immediately would have been like,
I would have loved this.
At the sound that fuck you
was about to come out, I would have been like
being tuned in.
Fuck you and fuck your mother.
The next one I wrote was,
now I've got some perspective.
Maybe this isn't going to work.
You've got your goals.
I've got mine.
And then she was raising a voice.
Oh, what is it?
This was the bit I loved.
There's a pattern here.
The restlessness that you have.
Now, you haven't got what you want from me.
So just fuck off and go
and see what you can build with someone else.
Why don't you go and buy some fucking land
and see how many small, tiny properties
you can cram onto it.
That's all you want.
It's never enough.
Oh, my God.
Oh, my God.
Wild day.
Why don't you go buy some land?
Yeah.
Yeah, like, I don't know.
How old were they?
Were they students or older?
No, no, no, no.
Like, late 40s.
Oh, right.
That's even worse.
How embarrassing.
But this was the thing.
I was like, did they come to see a show, but they've started having a fight, so they haven't
gone in?
Yeah.
Because they didn't go into a show.
But I was like, did they come out of a show?
But then, like, if you're fighting, you've come out of a show, why aren't you at home
and having this fight?
Yeah.
But then some people prefer to break up or have this kind of argument in public because then if shit goes south south then you're in a public place which
can be safer for people yeah i suppose so but but no like i mean this poor dude as well like
he was just sitting there and i think he was more aware of the volume yeah he knew that you were around
when you're arguing with someone you're just trying to temper
it and maybe like let's keep our voices down
you don't tell me what to do
because then they get louder
oh wow oh no and so what they
just left and that was it
well it went on for like I was
my friend was sort of popping in and out of
because he was like working
he was popping in and out and, because he was like working. He was popping in and out.
And, oh, 30 minutes this was going on that I like heard this whole thing.
And then in the end they left and she like put her bag on.
Bag on was just like.
And I was like, oh my God.
Like it went on for so long.
At one point I heard him say, look, it's not like that.
It's not like that.
And I was like, oh, he's trying to like bring it down.
It's not like that. It's not like that. And I was like, oh, he's trying to like bring it down. It's not like that.
Oh, wow.
Oh, wow.
Fuck you and fuck your mother and why don't you just go
cram some houses on his property
and see how many he can get in.
Wow.
Yeah, do that at home.
Yeah, yeah.
Well, if you're listening
and that was you,
I heard everything.
Not a bad reason
to break up with someone though.
They're too ambitious.
Yeah.
You've got your goals,
I've got mine.
Better than they gave you, you know, They're too ambitious. Yeah. Well, you've got your goals, I've got mine. Better than they gave you,
you know,
a lifetime STI.
Yeah.
And she kept saying,
to be fair,
I think they'll be alright
because she's like,
look, I'll tell you,
I'm absolutely perfectly happy
on my own.
Oh.
Doesn't sound it.
That sounded like a lie.
Oh God.
The whole thing sounds awkward.
It's so awkward.
