From the ZDEM Podcast Network, it's Fletchhorn and Haley's Little Bit of Pod.
Welcome to A Little Bit of Pond.
Vorney actually, as a father of a teenager, you might have some intel here.
Okay.
I was driving past the other day and I saw a kid sitting at a bus stop waiting.
One can only assume for a bus.
But I don't know.
Have you ever sat at a bus stop and you just wanted to sit down?
You just needed a break?
And then a bus comes.
You're like, no, no, no, no.
Yeah, and you've got to like brush them and be like, oh, wrong bus, wrong bass, wrong bass.
Yeah, not that one, not that one.
Yeah, not any bus.
I'm just lazy, I want to sit.
So this kid's sitting there and I drive past and I was like, what the 2006 is this shit.
He was, he had stripy sleeves on, like emo sleeves.
Oh, okay.
Snake bites that all my friends had, the lip piercings.
Eyeliner, black nail polish, banty, skinny jeans, and then the, like, cherry on top.
huge sweeping black fringe.
Oh, it's back.
It's back.
Emo.
Emo's back.
Emo, like full emo.
The sort of just early 2000s aesthetics back.
But I didn't know that that included...
You know and love from the early 2000s are back.
Low-rise jeans.
But I thought that the early 2000s being back was just isolated to that,
like the fashion fashion of the time.
Not the actual emo.
The culture.
Emo's back.
Do you know I'm stoked to?
about this because
maybe not in the numbers it was
it was huge
yeah it was everybody but I think
the numbers are growing as an elder
emo
retired emo
I don't know I try to keep an edge
but I don't say that we're so sorry
sorry yeah we say
I try to keep an air of difference
with my fascine
but no I think emo was my look
it was really like the look I thrived in
the most where I was like,
that's your look.
Yeah.
And Nevis Sincennave had to sort of norm it up
and become a normal adult.
And if it's back, I'm happy to return.
You're back.
Yeah, man.
You can't return now because you're too old to go back.
How old can an emo be?
I was 16 when I thrived.
Yeah, I mean, we have in the last couple of years been to Paramore.
I thought Emo's grown into Charlotte.
And good Charlotte, Mike Kim.
My Kim.
And, you know, those kind of, I mean, they were,
very mainstream bands.
Yeah, for sure.
But, like, you know, a lot of former emoes were at those shows.
My lip piercing, I've still got a scar where my lip piercing was.
I reckon I could ram a needle straight through that and get back to it.
Nose hole, that's still in.
Yeah.
Do you know what I mean?
I'm like, I don't know.
Well, you're kind of proud for the next generation of emo, so?
So proud.
Yeah.
I feel like they don't have the emo music, though, that we had.
No, not as good as ours was like thriving.
But maybe they've gone underground for some real, you know.
Also, I feel like, as a parent.
you could no longer be like, don't be bloody stupid.
What are you going out looking like that for?
You can't.
Because you went out like that.
Well, no, because you just can't.
Can't judge.
You can't judge anymore, right?
You've got to encourage it.
My parents did, and it annoyed me.
Maybe the generation after our parents would have been the last generation that can
freely judge their children and tell them they look stupid.
Yeah.
Well, you can't do it now.
But also, that's a great way of making your kid rebel against you, right?
If you do say stuff like that.
That's what annoyed me was I was trying so hard to rebel.
about goth at 13
Emo at 16 and my parents were like sweet
you look great good on you
all damn it
all right
turn me off
I'm gonna go put another hole in my face
I come home mum and be like
silly tart
what do you want for dinner
I'm like
I'll press my tongue bitch
I'll do it
yeah yeah yeah yeah
