It's Fletchhorn and Haley's Little Bit of Pod.
Welcome to A Little Bit of Pod.
I've got a conundrum, and actually, if producer Shannon could help me here, craft Quinn.
Now, you know, I've been, should we call it a long days I've been crafting.
I'm working on a few different projects.
So, that's something you're going to bring in here one day.
Yeah, I am going to bring it in here, and when I do, you're going to ooh and R.
But producer Shannon, I have a question for you.
as our craft queen.
Yes.
Have you ever worked with gold leaf?
Oh, dude.
And it is worse than glitter.
Wow. Okay, so here's my conundrum, right?
I'm making something.
You're going to see it, and it's getting finished.
I don't know.
Oh, here we go.
Something like that.
Here we go.
So I'm gold leafing something, let's just say.
I'm in the garage.
I've set up my workspace.
The thing I'm gold leafing is laid down.
I've got my adhesive spray.
I spray at a distance.
Let it get to.
tacky pull out the sheet
it's like
like this it's like little hair
and I put it on and it all kind of just falls apart
and it sticks to my fingers and then I was like
okay what the problem is is that I've got the garage
door open so the wind is getting a magold lens
oh yeah oh yeah so then I shut the garage door and about 30 minutes later
I'm talking to a green goblin because I'm high on the fumes of the adhesive
so what is the secret here
I genuinely know the answer
I knew she would
No, she would.
I'm confident of the answer.
Okay.
The best application method is a makeup brush.
Specifically, do you remember in 2016 how we all used fan brushes?
Yes.
A fan brush is the number one application method.
It holds onto it, but is soft enough to then transfer.
Because I was using a paint brush, you see, and it was pulling it right off.
No, no, no, no.
Oh, no.
It has to be a fan makeup brush.
How do you know so much about crafts?
I just, I've always been a crafter, like, as a.
a kid.
My mum was a kindi teacher,
so I started going to kindy when I was two days old.
She just bought me.
So advanced.
That's why she knows all the history stuff,
because she literally started learning well before we did.
Yeah.
Yeah, no, but so mum started taking me to kindi,
so I was just sat at a crafting table and it was just me.
The whole time I was like, why didn't I just get it?
Is this the podcast?
Yeah.
Why don't I get a fucking can of gold spray paint?
Like, this shit is just a mess.
Yes.
And it's an absolute nightmare.
But I'm like, every day I've just got like,
Guardian Shannon on my shoulder
because I know she's going to be loving this
Here's a tease for what I'm making
There's gold leaf
Yeah
Love
There's velvet
There's tassels
I'm so good for this
Have you eaten any of the gold leaf yet
Because it was edible
So much of it yesterday
Well like
It's edible
It was all on my fingers
And I started cooking dinner
And there was like gold
Through my salad
And I was like
If you go to a fancy restaurant
They do like gold steaks and stuff
I got a cheap one
I got the cheap gold leaves at sink
Yeah
actual quality gold leaf
It's edible.
Oh, I don't have that budget.
Okay.
It's very common in fancy restaurants.
Okay, so I need to get a little soft makeup brush.
Keep the door open.
Fan brush is the best, I've found.
And then, yeah, you can eat it and just be super careful because it is worse than glitter.
Like notoriously, because it sticks to anything it is on.
You're so lucky as gentlemen, you know, big burly gentlemen such as yourselves.
You're not fucking around with gold laugh in your day.
Well, I don't plan to.
Yeah, I don't plan to.
No, it really is a hassle.
It would be my advice would be not.
to bother. When can the listener
and ourselves experience
these crafts? Will you be
tomorrow at the latest?
Debuting them sometime in the next few days.
And the whole time I've been crafting, I've had
this thought that I know Shannon's had before and I know
all women have. I should start a shop.
I should start a business. I do this every time I finish a crochet
project. And I just focus on the last
day and I'm like, I enjoyed making this. This was easy.
This has been a harrowing experience so far.
Yeah, no, but you'll get to the end and you'll be like,
I can do this professionally.
I'll do it again.
How many people have asked to buy my butterfly cardigan
and I've thought about it
and then remember it took me weeks
and cost $200 worth of equipment.
That's what people never put the value on the time.
They just see how much, yeah,
never mind the fact that it was ours and ours.
Cake decorators are hearing us, by the way.
Cake decorators are not about.
The thing is, the amount I've spent
on cock-ups on this thing I'm making
and replaced it and got the wrong colour
and this, this, this, this, and new fringing
that was shipped from China and then, la-l-l-la,
literally have spent the most of ever spent on the.
this thing. Right. Well, in one month, I can't wait to see it.
I reckon one month is still being ambitious.
