Welcome to A Little Bit of Pod
Now podcast regulars, especially a little bit of pod regulars
Will remember when I was telling the story of the brazen theft of my parents' quad bike
Outrageous, daylight robbery
Yeah, like actually daylight
Farm worker was like 30 metres from the bike,
which was on the side of the road.
He was checking a trough and a fence.
Some guys pulled over.
He thought, these guys are going to ask for directions.
That's what happens when you live in the country.
One of them got out, got on the motorbike,
started it up and drove it away at a million miles an hour.
Again, I admire the audacity.
Do you know what I mean?
I'd like to be more unapologetic in my life,
and that's sort of quite inspiring.
Yeah.
The guy who stole it.
Do you know, it had been a little while after, and a mate of mine said,
I've just been talking to the boys at work about it.
It's an inside job.
The farm worker's like, because he's finishing his contract at the end of the milking season.
You can't say that.
It's an inside job.
Say that.
He's like, your parents are away.
No.
Like, no other, like, direct witnesses.
Because then you go, like, hey, I'm going to be here at this time.
Yep.
I'm going to step away from it.
And then I can be like, whoa, I've been robbed.
And then we can split the prof.
No.
And I was just like, that's not this guy.
No.
This is just not this guy at all.
Yeah.
At all.
A loyal worker.
Just so far from associating with criminals.
Yeah, I've got it.
Like, you wouldn't believe.
But, you know, that's what you have to look at everyone, don't you?
But then it rattles around in your brain, doesn't it? It's like, maybe he did. Anyway. Yeah Like you wouldn't believe But you know That's what You have to look at Everyone don't you Yeah
It's like
Maybe
Anyway
It's like when you think
One of your friends
Has stolen something
And then you realise
You've just
Like because they've
Been at your house
And you just realise
That you've left it
Somewhere else
Yeah
I do that all the time
And then you've
Burned a friendship
Yeah
And you're like
God damn it
Through some
Very drunken accusations
Yeah
It gets to a point
You're like
I just need to discuss
And then
Yeah
It turns into a
Full blind Accusation Um Yeah. It gets to a point you're like, I just need to discuss. And then it turns into a full-blown accusation.
Well, my parents were on their way to my house to borrow the quad bike that I inherited from my papa's farm.
And mum calls and she's like, we just had some fantastic news.
They've found the quad bike.
Got it.
Oh, my goodness.
How did they?
Because it's not tracked, right?
No tracking device or anything like that?
The police, as yet, not a hell of a lot of information. Goodness. How do you sniff? Because it's not tracked, right? No tracking device or anything like that?
The police, as yet, not a hell of a lot of information.
I'm really looking forward to if they do even get a sniff.
Okay.
More info.
Have we just turned this into a true crime podcast?
True crime podcast.
Oh, my God.
This is amazing.
The Quod bike. Did they find the body of a dead white woman?
No.
I don't know.
Well, you know what?
I don't know.
They were pretty light on details.
They rang my parents and they said, does your quad bike have any distinguishing features?
Oh, okay.
And it used to have a water...
This is much like a dead...
A slim mustache.
Much like a dead white woman.
Does she have any identifying...
Tattoo on her wrist.
Yeah.
Dad said, oh, we screwed on an extra toolbox on the back underneath.
And the police said to Dad, this bike is so filthy, like, we can't see underneath.
What have they been doing?
We're not sure what an extra toolbox would be.
And Dad was like, yeah, well, it was like a Suzuki one, so it just literally bolted on.
And they said, do you know the serial number of the bike?
Yeah.
And he's like, I don't, but the Suzuki dealership that we were dealing with in Morrinsville put it in the computer and said,
if this bike comes in, it's stolen, and sent it to all the dealerships and repair shops on their books around New Zealand.
And the cop said, okay, I'll ring them.
Rang them.
The guy gave them the number.
I worry about something the bike would be.
The cop finds it.
It matches.
Rings dad back.
We found your bike.
And dad said, how filthy is it?
And the dude's like, proper.
Filthy like muddy.
Muddy.
Filthy.
Like they were running it through the, like having a fang around on it.
Exactly. filthy like they were running it through the like having a fang around on it exactly like
i immediately was like they've used it to get up to like their drug spot oh without making their
drugs growing them or growing their methamphetamines yeah growing their methamphetamine plants yeah
it's that time of year it is yeah they're flourishing at the moment with this humidity
yeah you get a real crunchy crystal in this humidity we had a bit of rain we had a bit of
rain they love that not too much rain the other day. They love the rain.
Not too much rain, though.
No, no, no.
And they love a quick-draining schist.
Yeah, they do.
I might be thinking of pinot noir grapes.
I think you are.
But I might also be thinking of meth.
So they send them a photo, and it is so filthy.
So what do they know?
Who took this?
Who are these people?
They executed a search warrant.
They executed someone.
Shit. They walk in, and they're just like, bang. The cops these people? They executed a search warrant. They executed someone. Shit.
They walked in and they were just like, bang.
The cops said, we've executed a search warrant.
There's a lot of stolen property here.
Oh, fantastic.
So they weren't looking specifically for your dad's bike.
They were just watching these people.
They were doing a warrant and then they just found it.
Yeah.
That's part of that.
I don't know what stolen good led them to execute the warrant.
It might have been suspicion.
Right.
After the quad bike was reported.
But they found another quad bike and a whole lot of other stolen stuff.
They sound quite brazen.
They're probably looking to get caught.
Yeah.
Well, somebody messaged me when I put it on Instagram.
And they said they used to work for the police central hub.
Yeah, that sounds about right.
That sounds right.
You know when you call the station? Police communications. Police communications. Central Hub? Yeah, that sounds about right. That sounds right.
You know when you call them?
Station?
Police communications.
Police communications.
And they said, like,
oh, they know about ratbags and rascals in the area.
Yeah, right.
They're very well aware of it.
And apparently if a ratbag and a rascal goes quiet,
that just means they're up to no good.
Right, okay.
Yeah, they're trying to be sneaky,
but ratbags and rascals always float to the top.
Wow. And I might be thinking of putting on wild grapes, but yeah.
So what happens now?
Is it evidence or are they going back?
They literally said come and pick it up.
And on their way home from our house, they called in and they put it on the back of the ute.
And it's kind of up to them.
If it's buggered or broken or they've done something to it, then they have to go through their insurance.
But now they've just got it back and they clean it up.
They clean it, give it a hose down.
Your dad can take it in For a service
And then get arrested
For having a stolen quad bike
Yeah
Oh my god
