From the Zedium Podcast Network, it's Fletchpawn and Haley's Little Bit of Pod.
Welcome to A Little Bit of Pod.
And I love overhearing a conversation.
Oh my God, Sam, what have you heard?
Like, you know, if you're at a cafe, you're right next to people.
And I'm actually really bad at this myself.
I think we are as well when we go to a cafe.
You're oblivious to the people sitting next to you.
Oh, and we chat.
And we chat.
And we chat about all kinds of things.
I mean, if it's juicy, we'll be like lowered voices.
Yeah, yeah.
If it's super juicy, we'll actually text each other at breakfast.
Or you'd just be like, are you listening to this?
If you overhear something?
Haley, holy, holy.
But I would know I was at the airport with our friend Matt.
We were both on the same flight back from Wellington weekend.
We love that.
And behind us.
And we had our backs sitting to some Australian, like, corporate bigwigs, business people.
Oh, wow.
Yeah.
And you could tell by the conversations, they were like, up to Auckland for three days.
And then what times our flight to Singapore?
They were flying everywhere
And they were back to Sydney
And they were like
Oh should we have a day off
On the day we land
And the boss is like
We don't have time
No we should
I tell you what
Email the team now
Tell them not to come in on that Friday
And I was like
Oh we've got so
I know I couldn't work out
What company it was
But that's when they were chatting
And they were like
Exex they were like the high
Big
Because they know
One stage looked at them
And I was like
Oh they look like
They paid lots of money
And they were in a big company
And they got to discussing
an employee
and whether or not
they should give him
a 25% pay rise
far out
25%
and they were like
okay
and then they all just debated
it they were like
and then one of them was like
and I remember this line
we will have to see
a 25% output in their work
It is so
I don't you think
it's just mad to think
that like
people are in these chats
yes
determining something
so life changing for someone
and in that moment
someone one of them
can be like, nah, no, no, no, we're not doing that.
And it's gone.
And he'll never know, well, she'll never know.
No, and then one of them was like, well, that will make their Christmas bonus
$10,000.
I was like, $10,000 Christmas bonus.
That's a nice little touch, isn't that insane?
And they debated this for like five or six minutes.
And I was just the whole time just like, listening.
10K just before Christmas, just like plop on top of whatever you earn.
I remember when I first moved to Auckland, one of my friend's wife's,
wife at the time
worked in finance
his wife
and she was getting a Christmas bonus
because it worked in finance and mortgages
exactly what I was getting paid
for the entire year
like it was insane
I was like just for Christmas
because it's been a big year
it takes me 52 weeks
but it was just insane listening to like
the behind the scenes of the corporate
I love that I love you
over her conversation was someone who lives
such a different life to me.
And then you're just like so curious.
I'm hoping there's someone in Australia that's had a 25% salary increase and is working
now 25% harder.
And we'll probably be able to buy you a big Christmas present.
He missed his own natural out.
Yeah.
Yeah, he did.
Yeah.
You took a big pause and then you set a second sentence on.
Gosh.
Miss the natural out.
And he did it all on his own.
We haven't finished.
Also good than just hearing you say it again, fuck working 25% harder for 25% more money.
If I'm working 25% harder.
I want 50% more money.
You actually work in reverse.
The more money you earn, the less you want to work.
I call it Dutch working.
That is a Dutch option.
I want a Dutch option.
I want to,
it's like a Dutch option.
You do Dutch work.
It starts high and I'll meet you low.
It's called negotiation.
Yeah, that's good.
And plus, if you're working 20, if you're, yeah, 100%.
That was a natural out too.
No, I'm not finished taking down capitalism, one brick at a time.
