Starting point is 00:00:00 From the ZDEM Podcast Network. It's Fletchforn and Haley's Little Bit of Pod. Welcome to A Little Bit of Pod. We love when our listeners connect with us, especially if they're not from New Zealand and are visiting. Wait, what's wrong with our New Zealand podcast listeners? Oh, terrible. Ding us. Terrible people.
Starting point is 00:00:19 No, mangas. And if you're in New Zealand, listen on the radio in the morning, you know, that helps us more, you know. So get out of here. No, we love you. But we've got a friend in from Portugal, Cat. Hi, Kate. Hello. Why are you visiting New Zealand?
Starting point is 00:00:34 Actually, we travel to Australia because my husband's Australia, so we're visiting friends and family. We have a wedding coming up. Your wedding? Yeah. But you just see the husband. No, no, no, no, not mine. Oh, okay. Sorry.
Starting point is 00:00:51 People jump to her. So, yeah, when I got the opportunity to come here, I was like, hey, do you mind if I just pop in New Zealand for a side quest? Wait, did you ditch him? Yeah, I ditched him. Oh my God, I'm not. Yeah. I was like rude that he came and didn't pop and say hello. That's right, he said in Australia.
Starting point is 00:01:08 No, we got to the airport and I was like, you can go pick up the bags and go on your way. And now we'll go on my later. I love that. Where about in Portugal are you? I'm from Porto. Beautiful. I've actually never been. I've never been, but I want to.
Starting point is 00:01:21 Yeah, my parents say Porto is beautiful. They've been there. I think last time they were. It's almost exactly the other side of the world, eh? It is. It's in Spain. Yeah, I've just gone to Antipodesmap.com where you put in your address and it just drills it straight through the central. And where do you drill through to Porto?
Starting point is 00:01:39 Where does that come up? Well, no, it's not, it's in Spain. It's just out of Sevilla? Seville. Yeah. Seville? Seville? Severe.
Starting point is 00:01:47 I don't know. I said it right. I don't know. I try to correct me because you've been there and I have it. We've got a guest. Yeah, real close to like literally the other side of the world from Portugal. Yeah. We could have a little channel, you know, that we pass things to each up.
Starting point is 00:01:59 in the middle, like it's sucked up in one way and goes down. Like a pneumatic tube. You have to grab it through to Spain. Okay, lovely. What's your favorite Portuguese dish? Like food. If anyone that is listening is from Portugal, they will know. It's Francissina.
Starting point is 00:02:16 It's absolutely great. It's like a sandwich. I want to need to look this up. It's kind of like a sandwich that has all kinds of meat inside. It has cheese, pork. It has this sauce that it's made with beer, wine. can be made with whiskeys. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:02:32 It's so good. Francesena, famous, heavily loaded Portuguese sandwich. Heavily loaded. From Puerto, Say No More from heavily loaded. Oh my God, that sounds amazing. Oh my God, it's covered in cheese. Yep. Holy, I've never seen a more vaughan.
Starting point is 00:02:50 Yeah, that's delicious. Is it just sausage? It's almost looking like a pie, isn't it? It has beef, it has like this spice. Yeah, egg has this. spicy sausage, Portuguese sausage. It's great. They're looking at Portuguese restaurants.
Starting point is 00:03:08 The origins of it was... Daniel David de Silva, who returned to Portugal from time spring in France and Belgium tried to adapt the croquet monsieur to Portuguese tastes. And he was just like, you know what, we love everything. Yeah, amazing. Oh, my God. Now, what is this little USB stick you've got? Now, this is a camera.
Starting point is 00:03:30 What? It's like the size of a US Bster. Yeah. Yeah. It's literally called Charmerer because it's like a key chain. Oh, yeah, nice. So you take a photo on that and then takes a little digital photo. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:03:43 And it has filters and everything and a record too. Oh, my life. We're living in the future, aren't we? And what's in this little, you've got a bag that says Portugal. Yes. Yes. My mom loves the Portuguese tiles. She's used those before.
Starting point is 00:03:56 Actually, my tiles are from Portugal. Oh, they? That's fancy. That's nice. This is why she blows out her renovation budgets. She can't just go out to tile space and get some locals. No, they were. I bought them locally.
Starting point is 00:04:07 Imported from. Imported from Portugal. Yeah. Love it. I think you can tell. Can you? They're heavily loaded. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:04:13 What's in your Portugal sack? Yeah, I got you some little goodies. I got you these. These are of smolsh. Now, did you declare these when you came into the country? I did actually. I don't like lying to the government. I like ripping them.
Starting point is 00:04:28 off, but not lying. Ripping them off. We don't stand by either. So, yeah, they're like egg inside with wafers and these are from Aveiro. They're just like a 45 minute drive from Porto.
Starting point is 00:04:42 Is it a savory or a sweet? It's sweet. But it's big. Almost moly de Aveiro. Da Viro. What the hell is that? It's this beautiful region.
Starting point is 00:04:57 45 minute drive from Porto and well we call it the Venice from Portugal because it's all canals and things like that's beautiful just a legit sticker on it too should I open them? Yeah. Do you want us to try them in front of you?
Starting point is 00:05:13 Sure. Let's see the live reactions. You know like I'll be honest. You have had an ice cream already today. Oh God it's been a heavy day and I'm going to shreds. Oh yeah they're like little um pods. Little wafery pods.
Starting point is 00:05:27 Did you eat the whole fun? Yeah. Put that whole thing in your mouth. I'm nervous. She said egg and I'm just expecting like a hard-boiled egg. It will be honest. Also, they look like an, okay, right. Like a shell.
Starting point is 00:05:40 Mm-hmm. It's like a gooey egg. Yeah. Very sweet. It's very sweet. And I love sweet things. That's very sweet. It's so sweet.
Starting point is 00:05:53 Oh, my God. I love this. It's so sweet. Good. Everyone in Portugal is eating. those giant sandwiches and then these. Yeah. How are they keeping so trim?
Starting point is 00:06:03 We don't do grades, black and white. Right. Oh, everything's very tasty. Holy moly. Look at the producers around that. That is so sweet. I also got you some wine. Obviously.
Starting point is 00:06:19 I mean, I'm from Porto. Oh, my God, for God, sorry. What else at my mind? I was on a real wine drinker here. Oh my God, Kate, you didn't have to bring gifts. We love this. Porto Port. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:06:30 But do you know the first time I ever snuck alcohol off of my parents' bar cabinet? You don't know what anything really is. It was port. I poured a little bit in and then I topped it up with water. Oh my God. You know, decades later like, you silly bitch. Like you don't do that to pour.
Starting point is 00:06:47 No. They sip it. Yeah. I mean, to be honest, even though I am from Porto, I don't like wine. But I can appreciate that it's one of the best. Well, Port as well as kind of a bonding thing in our friendship because the first time we ever went out as a trio together
Starting point is 00:07:02 was for this dinner thing and someone sent over a bottle, we were like, oh, isn't that nice? The lady who was the CEO of this company when Fletcher and I first started was the CEO of the company that the hotel was owned by. She saw us and said to the waitstaff, oh, what are they drinking? And we were, as a joke, having a port, and she sent over an entire big bottle of port. It was the end of the night and the three of us were like,
Starting point is 00:07:24 we had to force down some raisin juice It is, it's pissy raisin juice It's so Such an intense raisin juice I'm gonna have a little port Oh Haley you've got to go You've got lots to do Yeah I'm just a little tawny port
Starting point is 00:07:39 This one's described as tawny I love a tawny port Better than a ruby port Yeah I love port Okay well those will be gone by the end of the day Thank you Perfect That's perfect for me
Starting point is 00:07:50 Purchas to be a drink Yum Porto Porto Porto Oh my god I have two other things here. Okay. I also have this, which is a Portuguese symbol. It looks like Nando.
Starting point is 00:08:04 It looks like Landoz. It does. I'm sorry that they're doing that to your culture. It looks like Nandoz. It does look like Nandoz. It's the Nando. Yeah, the first time I saw Nandoz, I was like, that's a Portuguese name. That's Fernando.
Starting point is 00:08:19 Where is Snius, Fernando? No, nothing. No, but nothing. Nothing to do with. But yeah, this is, we call it Gald Berselous. Berselos is a region a little bit north of Porto. Oh, he's cute. I could put that next to my minions in front of my screen.
Starting point is 00:08:38 That's beautiful. Oh, he's actually a really quality made item here. It's a wooden, it looks wooden carved. Oh, so yeah, it's beautiful. Yeah, it's massive. It's everywhere in Portugal. It's lovely. Real symbols.
Starting point is 00:08:49 Right. And one final thing. Do you want a port form? No, I'm okay with that. I'm okay for without a porn. Too early in the morning for a Porsche. I obviously had to bring you a scar from the best football club in the world. And for anyone listening, disagree, you're wrong.
Starting point is 00:09:05 Oh, we actually support Kurosau. Oh, okay. That's Brazil. That's a good. But this one is from Porto. Oh, that's so cool. And it's Auckland FC colors so we could just kind of still wear it. That's great.
Starting point is 00:09:19 Just wear the back side. And you'll never know. Yeah, it just looks like Auckland the FC now, doesn't it? Yeah. Oh, that's beautiful. Okay, thank you. You didn't have to bring gifts. No, absolutely.
Starting point is 00:09:28 Absolutely. And the bag is also for you, so. Amazing. Yeah, lovely bag. Very nice. Oh, thank you so much. Give me for your mom for the Portuguese tiles. We've got gifts for you.
Starting point is 00:09:37 Oh, really? I'm just looking up, Porter. They haven't lost a football game recently, have they? Here's a copy of the New Zealand hero. They're the most successful team in Portugal as well. Yes, I'm looking here. They're at the top of the table, much like our beloved warriors. Yes, up the wives.
Starting point is 00:09:50 Do you have any other plans in New Zealand? Not really. I'm just going to walk around before I head back to the airport to go to Sydney. But yeah, yesterday I flew for around 40 hours. The moment I got here to Auckland, I immediately went to do the sky jump. Oh yeah. Because I thought, you know what? I'm tired. Maybe adrenaline will help. Yeah, oh, really? How was it? It's great. It was amazing. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Get a good look at the city. Yeah, I was so afraid. But the moment I got down, I was like, can I go again? That's good, that's good, that's good. That's good.
Starting point is 00:10:26 Oh, well, thank you so much for coming in. Honestly, we love having listeners in. And we'll definitely celebrate with the pork. Especially when they bring pork, because, hey, it's very excited. A lot of Portugal. A little local booze. Thanks, Kat. And you'll be able to, if you're a podcast listening,
Starting point is 00:10:38 now you can listen to your own limit episode. Yeah, that's going to be weird. That is so sweet.
