Starting point is 00:00:00 From the Zedium podcast network, it's Fletchfallen and Haley's Little Bit of Pod. Welcome to A Little Bit of Pod. Now, over the holiday break, I spent, excuse me dear listener. It's all right. It's a normal human thing to do. I apologize, dear listener. Over the summer break, I spent a couple of weeks in South Africa, and I heard so many people like you. Haley.
Starting point is 00:00:26 Yoh. I know. It's like I felt quite dreary. drawn to your journey because you were in the motherland and gave down. And I just know, I was watching your stories and I was thinking, you know, I need to go home. You miss it. You know, I miss it. You know, I miss it.
Starting point is 00:00:42 There was at one point, there was one lady I heard talking somewhere that sounded like your, because I know people say it's not really a South African. You can't really pinpoint that accent to anywhere, right? No, everyone's like, where are you from? And I'm like, I got, I had a father from north, a mother from south. But I heard a lady and I was like, I just started laughing. And also when I got my rental car and they said the core is porked in number 24. I was like, oh, fuck it just started laughing.
Starting point is 00:01:13 I sent you one. Can I play a little bit of that clip? I sent you today. This is if Voldemort was played by a South African woman. This is so good. I like it. Going back to Hogwarts, guys. I'm going to Cozorakis, but I don't care.
Starting point is 00:01:25 Come on. Has anyone seen the Guinea, guys. I can't form a snake. I'm sorry to. have to do this but the vada cadavera i'm sorry i'm good it's good it's really good i've got to say i've got to say though south africa um cape town is so fucking cool i know i know so cool yeah like i would 100% recommend it to everyone like what kind of things because i forgot it i know you should know i know i should know but it's been so long what kind of things can you do in cape town um well
Starting point is 00:01:52 you definitely can't swim in the water because it's so fucking cold really is it is insane because it's where it is it is where it is on it's where it is on it's it's on the map It's circular. You can swim down the coast like around Plet and stuff is beautiful and it's still chilly I love Plet. Do you?
Starting point is 00:02:08 What do you love about it? Just the water. Oh yeah. It's been warm, though. Sharks. There's a lot of shocks because it is warm. Oh my God, there's a giant sign at the beach and Plet with a giant Great White on it saying these are the times when Great Whites are here the most guys.
Starting point is 00:02:21 I know, but you have to remember they are more afraid of us than we are they? Are they? When a shark comes barreling towards me. I say, pocket. But it's incredibly beautiful. And I did get to go to a couple of, like, game reserves. I did an elephant walk is incredible. So I went to a safari park, and there's something quite funny happened.
Starting point is 00:02:42 I put a story up on my Instagram at the time of the spiky, big fat caterpillar. Do you guys see that? Look at this. I missed that one. Yeah, big spiky. Looks like that. Wow, amazing. How would you describe that to the dear listener?
Starting point is 00:02:52 It's like a painting. It's black with white and orange stripes and spikes, and it's very crap. Fianice-like. Fellic, for sure. It looks like a cock. Yeah, but caterpillars are phallic by nature. I'd say this was quite thick, quite long, maybe like three and a bit inches. Right.
Starting point is 00:03:10 Quite big, quite fat. And so there was, before the tour started, there were a whole bunch of families and just people going on the tour, just waiting around for the, like, big jeeps to come and pick you up. And there was this giant caterpillar, and it's just on the step outside the kind of the man. And it was just, but everyone was. marveling at it like because i'd never seen one before i was taking photos and like the kids were just like these little kids were just like oh my god this is crazy and their grandma was like don't touch it because i kind of um got a stick and poked it not poked it hard but just like so it would move because it wasn't moving yeah right what anyway so because i had given that permission structure
Starting point is 00:03:50 the kids then were like trying to touch it and their grandma told them off and anyway you started it did they say that that old man told us we could do that Oh man. Excuse me. That old sir there? Anyway, like it took ages for these fucking jeeps to turn up. And while we were waiting, the grandma who told the kids off for poking the caterpillar stood on it. Fuck all.
Starting point is 00:04:12 How? And the kid was like, no, no, you stood on the caterpillar. By accident. Yes, by accident. Oh, it would have been a gooer. It would have been a big gooer. No. She half stood on it.
Starting point is 00:04:22 So it was like half moving. It was half moving. It's suffering. I know. I was like, God, someone's got to put. out of its misery. But shit, it was funny because these kids were just like, wow, like never, because they were, I think
Starting point is 00:04:34 they were English, had never seen anything like it. Neither had I, I was just marvelling at the same, and there's fucking nan. Like griming. And then she was like, oh, that's just, um, she was trying to explain it to the kids, she was like, that's just nature guys, you know, like sometimes. No, it's your fat ass, not looking where you're fucking stepping, grandma.
Starting point is 00:04:52 Oh, how disappointing. Yeah, but spiky caterpillars, amazing wall-off. What was? Great accents. What was like the craziest animal you saw that you were like, holy shibbolos? Definitely the lion. Yeah. That was insane.
Starting point is 00:05:05 Yeah. Just in the wild. And the hippos are insane too. Oh yeah, the hippos. The giraffos just walking around. When did you see the hippos? On land or in the lake. In the lake.
Starting point is 00:05:14 Because they get really sunburned apparently quite easily. Oh really? So that's why they spend most of their time. Yeah, their parkeyes. They would fucking not like it here in New Zealand. But it was pretty insane because like the wildlife park was like off this road. And then I was just following ways. God, they love fucking.
Starting point is 00:05:28 speed cameras in South Africa. Do they much? Yeah, they do. Like every 10 metres. Oh, waities like, Bing, Bing, you'd hate it. Oh, God. Having to go 80.
Starting point is 00:05:38 80's my least favorite. I was going to this wildlife park and then it was like, there was still like two point something K's to go. And it was like, I'd turn off the main road and got to this gate with like this little shed and I was like, oh, that must be where we'd check in for the tour. And then the gate just opened. Uh-oh.
Starting point is 00:05:53 And like I drove my car in and then the gate shut behind me. And then the wildlife, I had to drive for. through the game park to where you meet to start the tour. And your rental. Yeah, and my little like Toyota rental. You can do it for free then. Well, basically. You can do it for free on the way.
Starting point is 00:06:08 I just look up and there's a fucking giraffe next to my car. I'm just like, it was so fucking cool. Honestly, South Africa, if you get a chance. I mean, everyone said don't go to Joburg. Did they? Arta, because I'm originally from Janisburg. Yeah. There's lots to do there.
Starting point is 00:06:25 But if you're going to go, Cape Town. Cape Town, beautiful. Absolute must. Thank you.
