Starting point is 00:00:00 The ZM Podcast Network. Fleshborn and Hayley's Little Bit of Pod. Treat yourself to McCafe coffee with my Macca's rewards. Welcome to A Little Bit of Pod. Now, I like hiring equipment. That's something about me. One of my favourite days ever was when I hired a digger and then just made a piece of land flat for a vegetable garden.
Starting point is 00:00:24 And I just spent all day in a digger learning to operate the digger. And that's the other thing. I'm so loaded with, some people call it white arrogance. I call it confidence. I can do anything. I just haven't done it yet. Right, yeah, that's arrogance. So I hire this digger.
Starting point is 00:00:40 They're like, do you know how to operate it? I'm like, yeah, I'll figure it out. They think, of course, that's just what you say when you can operate a digger. And away I went and I had just a great day on a digger. They're like, do you know how to operate it? I'm like, yeah, I'll figure it out. Ha, ha, ha. They think, of course, that's just what you say when you can operate a digger. And away I went and I had just a great day on a digger. Beautiful. Now, and the weekend is gone, I thought I'll hire a scissor lift. Oh, I love those. I don't know why, but there's something fun about them.
Starting point is 00:00:58 I've never been on one. I've been on, we've had them, we've been on them for work, hey? Yeah. Were we broadcasting or there was a concert? We were dropping a chip into dip. Yeah, there was that. And also that we've had them at concerts. Yeah, take people up.
Starting point is 00:01:12 Take an elevated look at a concert. Oh, fun. Because you can get massive ones. Oh, yeah, totally. Well, I needed a particularly small one to get through a door. Okay. To be able to attach things to the ceiling. Not a standard door.
Starting point is 00:01:25 Not a standard door. This one is a small door And the other side was a ranch slider So I got this thing And immediately when I started towing this as a lift I thought, I'd measured it so it would fit through the door I found one that was small enough to fit through the door Immediately when I started towing it I thought, shit this thing's heavy
Starting point is 00:01:40 Well you know when you're towing something in a car and you can tell it's heavy I was like, shit this thing's heavy I get. Well, you know when you're tying something in a car and you can tell it's heavy? Yeah. I was like, shit, this thing's heavy. Yeah. I get it back to my house where my dad is and I'm like, well, I'll take the, we'll get this off the trailer. He's like, that's only just going to fit through that door. Well, we didn't even have to worry about that
Starting point is 00:01:56 because that wasn't a problem. As soon as we backed it off the trailer onto the dirt, it sunk. Oh no. And it was only driven by, it's not a four wheel drive. It was only driven by two wheels. Two wheels, hard plastic, like a hard trolley wheel. I know the wheels.
Starting point is 00:02:10 They're very hard. They've got no bounce. And you'll be aware that they've got zero grip. Yes. They're purely made from flat concrete. So the wheel went in, and try as we might, we couldn't get that wheel out. And then, so it became a whole thing. Then I noticed that the scissor lift,
Starting point is 00:02:27 even though it was at its absolute reclined position. Reclined? Declined? Bottom position? That doesn't seem right either. Collapsed? Because it sounded like a scissor lift accordion. Because you would say it would be extended.
Starting point is 00:02:41 Yes. Collapsed? Descended. Descended position. Decollapsed? No, decollapsed would be un Collapsed Descended Descended position Decollapsed No decollapsed It's definitely not Decollapsed It sounds like it should be
Starting point is 00:02:50 Decollapsed That's a double That feels the wrongest Of all the suggestions We've laid out actually An uncollapsed building Unscissored An anti-collapsed
Starting point is 00:02:58 And it's uncissored And it's closed position And it's closed position And it's most closed Compacted And it's most compacted And it's compact position I like that Let's go with that And it's most compact position I it's closed position. And it's most closed. Compacted. And it's compacted. And it's compact position. I like that.
Starting point is 00:03:06 Let's go with that. And it's most compact position. I win. So it was low. I win. I'm just wondering, you know, I win. I feel that was a team effort. No, I win.
Starting point is 00:03:13 That was a brainstorm effort. It was a brainstorm effort. This is what these private school kids do. Yeah. They put us public school kids to work. Yeah. We do all the footwork. They come in with the, you know, the last piece of the puzzle and they claim it all. And then they fly business class to Europe. Yeah. Yeah, we do all the footwork they come in with the you know and the last piece of the puzzle and they claim it all and then they fly business class to europe yeah yeah we do so in its most
Starting point is 00:03:31 collapsed position and it's most decollapsed position i noticed that it was getting a lean on oh my god and i was like oh my it was a very stressful time jesus my father remained level headed and i swore a lot. In front of your father? Yeah. Do you still apologize? Nah, he's even swore in front of me a couple of times at the weekend. Oh, really?
Starting point is 00:03:51 For different reasons. Not at me, but about things. And then one of them was, like, the kids were outside. He's like, oh, no, I've swore in front of the children. I was like, they've heard worse. Yeah. Probably even just before they came outside from their mother, they've probably heard worse.
Starting point is 00:04:04 Get the F outside is really what she said to them You've hired this thing How long have you hired it for? All day Okay and so It's the start of the day And it's on a lane And it's stuck
Starting point is 00:04:12 And it's stuck So I go and get the John Deere out The tractor Okay Yeah I don't know If John Deere or hire Paul Want to hear about
Starting point is 00:04:20 What we did to that tractor To get that thing unstuck But we managed to get it unstuck-esque. Like pulled it out? Dug it out? Oh, wow. I'll tell you what. The front end loader, I went in and put the front end loader
Starting point is 00:04:36 in the dirt under and pushed that in and then lift the whole front up, which was when it really went on the lane and I was like, Oh, God. Oh, my God. And then pulled it using the tractor back onto the trailer until it could drive itself and then put it back on and took it straight back. I think I had it for maybe two and a half hours. Wait,
Starting point is 00:04:53 so you didn't even put it through the door? I got no, absolutely not. Why didn't you put it? Cause at one stage, cause I've got these loading, these loading ramps that you would use to get like a lawnmower up onto a trailer.
Starting point is 00:05:03 You're familiar with these? Like you steal things. We started driving on that And those just bent And Dad's like How heavy is this I was like I don't know We couldn't find the weight
Starting point is 00:05:10 Of it on there So we just put it back On the trailer I took it back I was like this just Wasn't what I was after So they're only for Basically for concrete
Starting point is 00:05:17 Flat areas Straight from trailer To concrete Back onto trailer And I said to her How much does this weigh 1600 kilograms Oh wow
Starting point is 00:05:24 So that's why On these tiny little Plastic thin Concrete only wheels It feels like you just back onto trailer. And I said to her, how much does this weigh? 1,600 kilograms. Oh, wow. So that's why on these tiny little plastic, thin, concrete-only wheels. It feels like you just fat-shamed that scissor lift. Yeah. No, because...
Starting point is 00:05:32 No, it wasn't because it didn't look... It used to be 2,000 kilograms. It didn't look 1,600 kilograms. Oh, nice. Muscle. Skinny fat. Muscle.
Starting point is 00:05:39 I think it's got more muscle. It's muscly. Trim heavy. Okay. Yeah. Trim heavy. Well, I bought it because I hired that one so it would fit
Starting point is 00:05:45 through the door. So you wasted a whole day's... No, they didn't charge me. They didn't. They didn't charge me. Oh my God, amazing. Because when I left, apparently I left before the young fella, as they called him, got to fill out the paperwork. Oh, the young fella. Oh, yeah. And then I bought it back and they were like, oh, well, that's all good.
Starting point is 00:06:01 It was under half a day. You're all good. Oh, fantastic. And they said, by the way, he didn't leave his iPad on the trailer, did he? He lost the iPad that they do with the chickens. Oh, the young fella. The young fella. Sounds like he's having a hard time. Young fella. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:06:13 I'd had a bad day. He'd also had a bad day. It was just a couple of young fellas having a bad day.
