Starting point is 00:00:00 The ZM Podcast Network. Fleshborn and Hayley's Little Bit of Pod. Thanks to McCafe. Great things are brewing, one cup at a time. Welcome to A Little Bit of Pod. Yeah, I had a beard trim yesterday. I like going to the barbers and getting a beard trim. They know my name, which is nice.
Starting point is 00:00:19 Oh, you're a regular. Yeah, yeah, they know what I'm after now. I miss it. I remember I was a regular at the local kebab store in K Road, and then I moved away. Yeah, right. Yeah. And sometimes I walk past to see the guy, I'll give him a wave.
Starting point is 00:00:31 Same guy. Does he do anything he remembers you? I don't know. I don't think he does. He's like, Jesus, that guy's weird. Who waves at a kebab shop? Hello! He doesn't remember me.
Starting point is 00:00:42 So, yeah, I went in yesterday, and I sat sat down and beside me, the youngest barber on the crew was dealing with this young fella who, when he walked in, I was like, he looked like a first year sort of a tradie, sort of apprentice guy. And I could tell before he even sat down what haircut he was going to get. He was going to get his mullet revamped. Get the sides done. He had one of those full blind fluff mullets. Oh, yeah.
Starting point is 00:01:04 And he was going to get the sides trimmed and maybe one of those full blind fluff mullets oh yeah and he was going to get the sides trimmed and maybe the top tidied up but he said I don't want any length taken off the back and the young barber's like
Starting point is 00:01:11 I might just take there's a few split ends I might just tidy it up slightly but you'll lose no length you won't lose any volume and I was just like fuck these mullets
Starting point is 00:01:18 Jesus Christ that's a lot of work insane so then I find out this kid isn't a first year tradie he's 16 years old. Oh, okay.
Starting point is 00:01:26 And I know the barber's 21 years old because he was telling me at the start of the year he had his 21st in March and he was planning it and he was going to get loose with the lads and what was your 21st like? I was like, well, it was in a small country community hall run by my parents. So no, it was pretty, as far as 21st go, it didn't go too wild. But then I sat there at the tender age of 41 and listened to a 16 and a 21-year-old talk like they'd been around for fucking decades.
Starting point is 00:01:51 Like what? Mate, what are you up to this weekend? And he's like, oh, yeah, parties. Can have some parties. But, you know, I've got a couple of mates that are looking to get out of the party scene. What, 16? 16.
Starting point is 00:02:02 He's like, oh, yeah, yeah. Well, what are you drinking? What are you drinking? He's like, oh, KGBs. Well, what are you drinking? What are you drinking? He's like, oh, KGBs. Anything but, you know, predominantly KGBs. Are they back on the KGBs now? KGBs are back, apparently. Are they?
Starting point is 00:02:12 Yeah. And I was just. Who knew? That was my big question. He's like, yeah, they taste like a silver powerade. Never heard a KGB described as a silver powerade. And he's like, oh, the 21-year-old's like, oh, I remember. Yeah, I remember my KGB days.
Starting point is 00:02:25 Yeah. How long ago could this possibly be? I could talk about my KGB days because they were 20 years ago. They were in the 90s. Yeah, yeah. But these guys are talking about KGB days that would have been five years ago tops. Yeah. And, yeah, his KGB days have passed.
Starting point is 00:02:40 And, you know, it was just like listening to a couple of old mates having this, like, old mate barber chat. Yeah. You know, two old boys. And, oh, how are the grandkids? And he was like, oh, you know, what are you going to do when you leave school? He's like, oh, I've got a couple of plans up my sleeve. But, you know, nothing confirmed yet. But, you know, I'm a bit worried about a couple of my mates, you know.
Starting point is 00:02:59 They just want to be rappers. And he's like, oh, yeah, no, no, good on them. You're good on them. You've got to have your dreams. But, you know, you've got to pay the bills. You've got to pay the bills. What's their backup plan? No, mate them you're good on them gotta have your dreams but you know you gotta pay the bills gotta pay the bills what's their backup plan nah mate
Starting point is 00:03:08 they're just fully invested in being rappers I was just like yeah you gotta have a plan B if your SoundCloud rap career comes crashing down yeah it doesn't take off
Starting point is 00:03:15 doesn't take off yeah it could not take off and then they were talking about the old days they said the old days a couple of times I'm like how old could the old days
Starting point is 00:03:23 possibly be like the 16 year old wasn't even born when you and I started working together. Yeah, that's wild. How old are his old days? And it was just one of those. And then I got thinking, and I do this all the time. I was doing the maths last night. I need to find the exact.
Starting point is 00:03:38 Because August, my daughter, eight years old, loves Master of Puppets by Metallica. Yeah. Because it was on Stranger Things. Yeah. Now, Master of Puppets by Metallica. Yep. Because it was on Stranger Things. Yeah. Now, Master of Puppets was released in 1986. Yep. Wow.
Starting point is 00:03:50 So she likes a song from 1986, and she was born in 2014. My wife hates when I do this. Because I get obsessed with it. You do this a lot. And I start working out all their things. So 1986, 28 years before she was born, that song came out. So if I was to listen to an equivalent song, born in 1982, minus 28, I would be listening to a song from 1954.
Starting point is 00:04:16 That sounds so much older. I know. And the biggest song of 1954 was, don't know that one don't know that one god 1954 was a bit of a dog yeah um
Starting point is 00:04:29 well wasn't there a lot going on in the world I don't know if there was a lot of time to write music yeah maybe there was sort of that clean up after horrendous world war and then
Starting point is 00:04:36 yeah shake rattle and roll shake rattle and roll oh yeah yeah yeah shake rattle and roll ah that was a 1954 song so like that's this is a problem. I get obsessed with that sort of thing.
Starting point is 00:04:47 Yeah. My wife asked me to stop doing it because they're always talking about death. Back in the day, though. Oh, back in the day. Back in the day. Back in the KGB days. Oh, back in 2017. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:04:57 The good old days. But, yeah, don't do that around people who are struggling at the moment with their mortality and the fact that they're probably over halfway through their life. Yeah.
