From the Zedium Podcast Network, it's Fletchhorn and Haley's Little Bit of Pod.
Welcome to A Little Bit of Pod.
I cannot tell you the dopamine that surged through my body as I left.
I'll get them a shout at actually, merchants of Lee.
It's an op shop in Lee, north of Auckland, just out of Matakana, beautiful.
It's the one by the Lee.
It's like the Lee Farm.
Yeah, kind of near there.
Just before there, there's a kind of a farm market sort of space of a few shops and it's there.
Right, you've been doing a lot of op-shopping lately.
Yeah, thanks, I'm low on dopamine.
So just finding...
You're going to find it doing, getting your deals.
I talked to my therapist about it.
I said, I've been doing some naughty dopamine seeking.
And she said, what is it?
I said, I've been op-shopping a lot, you know, really hunting for bargains?
She was like, you know, some people do, like, heroin, so I think you're all right.
And I was like, thank you for Jim.
I, actually, I know exactly where this.
This is a lovely spot, isn't it?
Lovely spot, eh?
By the, there's a caravan park nearby and a action about the kana.
Anyway, so merchants of Lee, right?
right, I'm heading out there.
And I'm just having a little looky around,
was heading out to the sawmill for some lunch and whatnot,
just having a nice little cruisy day.
And I'm buying, what did I buy?
A hunting horn.
One of those old...
Why?
For my wall.
Okay.
Does it come in the mouthpiece?
Do you know that your walls have already got a lot on them, eh?
Yeah, I know.
More.
Now they're going to get more.
You know you're about to do an expensive renovation.
Yeah, I've just paid a bunch of bills on that, so now I'm like...
But she's going to have everything filled with it was like,
Before you said, you know, your torch is on, she's like, yeah, I'm tracing an empty spot on my leg.
Because she's got a spot to fill up for the tattoo.
For a tattoo.
When does it end?
Excuse me, is this a personal attack?
Or can I just share with you my...
It's an intervention.
I mean, it's nothing.
Look at this.
So I'm going into this, and I'm paying for my hunting horn.
And I look behind who is she?
Do you listen?
And I look behind the shopkeeper's head, and I just see it.
And it's the back of a jacket.
It's a bomber.
style jacket with grey
red with grey suede tassels
a fluffy kind of quilted
bull horn with a big silver k
and it says rough rider with stars
and I was like
the fuck is that
right I love that I'm like oh
like I'm like I have a little seizure
and I and then he pulls it he was like
yeah yeah he said that's by Kanzai Yamamoto
Oh of course
Of course Kanzai Yamamoto
I have multiple t-shirts by Rua.
I don't think they sell Kasay Yamamoto at ASCA.
It was Hellenstein.
It was Hellenstein's real.
But you'll recognise him as the designer of a pair of pants or an outfit that David Bowie wore, big flare kind of bubble, circle pants.
That's the designer, right?
And he said it's by the sky.
It's like very rare.
All of his jackets were like one-offs.
What's his name again?
No, because I know why you're looking it up.
See how much it costs.
You're looking for value.
Yamamoto.
A jacket is worth how much the purchaser is willing to play.
I've found him.
Yamamoto.
Is he alive?
Is he alive?
No, he died 2020.
Oh, okay.
Yeah, anyway, so I say...
So very influential in the 70s and 80s.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, right.
Dressed David Bowie.
And so I was like, at the moment he said that, I was like,
can I try it on?
Which is always the trap, because if this thing slips on and spiritually we bond,
I'm screwed and I haven't even asked price.
yet. Anyway, so I slipped it on and it is just, it is just the perfect fit, like it's just
made for me, like it's my sole jacket. And I said to the guy, I was like, are you selling
it? Because you know, sometimes in vintage stores, if they've got something really nice to enjoy,
but not to buy. It should say on it, not for sale if it's in a shop. And he said, I'll part
with it for the right person. Oh, all these, they always have a yarn like this.
He bought it back in the 80s and has held onto it ever since and has been waiting for the right
moment to part with it and it doesn't really fit him
anymore and the length wasn't good. And I just
it's spiritually as my jacket and I
don't think I've ever felt more
spiritually bound to a jacket
in my life. Really? So this is your jacket. I think it was meant, I was
always meant to find this and I love to know who else is for it.
Okay, there's a website called first dibs.com which I'm
guessing is a website for vintage.
There's a bomber jacket
for two and a half thousand US dollars.
Yeah, I know.
What the hell?
Yeah, I know.
Oh, I didn't even pay a...
Three thousand US for these other ones.
I know.
So I get into the car afterwards and the guys like have fun, you know, researching this design at Kansai Yamamoto.
And I'm doing it.
And then you always wait for the moment when you've bought vintage you.
I've paid a good, a pretty good price on it.
We did a bit of...
Would you take, would you take?
We're not talking this much money.
Fuck no.
Because the moment I looked it up, I was like, holy shit.
I think I've got myself a steel here.
That's up a bargain.
Yeah, I know.
But what did he...
He didn't make it.
He's just taken something and decorated it.
Or did he stitch it from the ground up?
No, he's made...
Like, this is like...
The whole thing is made by him.
It's not just a decoration.
He was a full clothes designed to Jacket's Bombers.
This one's 1980 something.
But I just...
It's so good.
And yeah, I didn't pay...
Fuck, no.
I didn't pay thousands.
Some of them were worth five grand.
I paid slither.
Oh my God.
I'm just...
Yeah, I'm looking it up.
A slither.
Yeah.
Right.
Yeah.
Yeah.
I know.
Flet.
You put it on.
Oh, yes.
Yeah, yeah.
I think it doesn't look good in it.
It's unisex and it's like...
Yeah, it's totally.
I'm not a Western kind of a cowboy.
Because obviously it needs to be dry cleaned.
Like it's, you know, it's just old.
It's a bit posy.
It's a bit musty.
You ever put a jacket on before?
She's trying to put my arm goes in there.
I mean, I'd say you'd never look gayer in your life, but that's...
Yeah, wow.
Really?
Because I'm...
Just last week?
Really?
Because you didn't see me in Berlin.
It does stink.
Yeah, yeah, she's an old jacket.
I've got to find a specialist.
I feel like her to work on dry cleaner, but not me.
I think it'll be a bit short maybe.
Yeah, that's nice.
Have you had a couple of darts or are that...
No, no, no, the darts came with.
I don't think I'll dart in that one.
I don't think I'll dart in that one.
Oh, I probably...
I don't think I probably would.
Oh, my...
My whole body just stiffened.
I know, but what a fine.
Honestly, and the dopamine I've received from this is endless.
And every day, like, doesn't that make you feel good for it?
Turn around, Rough Rider.
Yeah.
