Welcome to A Little Bit of Pod.
Starting point is 00:00:39 Do you know, finally, if you've been listening for many years, you know, I've worked quite hard to finally live in a quiet neighborhood. And I wanted to – my goal was always to be the loudest house in the quiet neighborhood. Yep. Because then the only person getting annoyed by the noise is – well, it's just everyone else but not me. Yeah. So I do. I live in a really quiet neighborhood.
Starting point is 00:01:01 And especially on the weekends, it's really quiet. And I'm sitting out on the deck. It was a beautiful sunny weekend in Auckland. And I was enjoying the sound of the birds. Lovely. The native birds. And then I was reading a book. I read a book and listened to the birds this weekend.
Starting point is 00:01:14 That's nice. Do you know that on weekends you can go out? You can not go out? Like, you can stay home, not drink that much, not spend a lot of money and not see a bunch of people and then feel exhausted on Sunday? It's amazing. And then feel exhausted on Sunday. It's amazing. So crazy. I won't be doing it again, but it was novel.
Starting point is 00:01:28 I was going to say, it's very rare for you as a social butterfly. I feel really unfulfilled. Yeah. I feel rested but unfulfilled. Anyway, so I'm sitting there. I'm reading a book, like, who the fuck am I, on Friday. And then I hear, no, this was on Saturday morning. And then I hear the familiar
Starting point is 00:01:45 sort of drone of bagpipes oh my god I love bagpipes oh well you did a lot of marching I've seen a lot of them live I like bagpipes so this and like through the valley of my suburb
Starting point is 00:02:02 these bagpipes start coming out and I'm recognising the songs, we've got Highland Cathedral we've got Amazing Grace. Songs, yeah This went on for like 10 minutes and then after each one there was a little like so I think someone might have been having like a backyard party and someone was like
Starting point is 00:02:17 bring out your old pipes, Gordon you know. The pipes, the pipes the pipes they're playing so I loved that, that was really fun every now and then i had a bung and when you hit a if you hit a bung note when you're playing the piano it's kind of like oh when you hit a bung note on the pipes fuck me it's noticeable and it goes like wavers yeah um usually on the bit of like on amazing grace who wavered not enough how great did they hit it how great they aren't on Amazing Grace.
Starting point is 00:02:45 He wavered. Not enough. How great did they hit a How Great Thou Art? No, no, How Great Thou Art. They had a wailie wailie. Yeah, they had a lot of classics. There should be a law. No bang pipes in public areas unless it's a special performance
Starting point is 00:02:56 or a Santa parade. So I thought that was it, right? The pipes, they finished. That was delightful. And then later in the evening, I'm sitting out in the, while we got a spa okay oh wow we've got a spa sitting out my spa and then suddenly i hear like a boom and this band starts playing and i think we live quite close to a pub right and i think there's a band playing outside perhaps for a wedding of sorts right so that's going for a couple hours So we've had bagpipes in the morning.
Starting point is 00:03:26 We've had a rock band. This is karma. For being the loudest person. I didn't mind it. But yeah. And it didn't go late. It was fine. And then yesterday I was sitting out in the afternoon
Starting point is 00:03:35 finishing my book. Yeah. Finished a whole book over the weekend. And I was like, what is that? And it was like drum and bass. Like full vibes. Yeah. Oh, my God.
Starting point is 00:03:52 I just realized I can beatbox. Yeah, that was great, actually. Sorry. You know when something comes out and you don't even know? Yeah. And I hear this drum and bass like a full, I said to you guys, it sounds like the fucking Boiler Room at Big Day Out, like full laser vibes. But then I hear like, and like drumming and stuff.
Starting point is 00:04:11 And I was like, what? And then I realized I live near a Hare Krishna center that was having their holy Sunday. Oh, holy celebration. Yeah, their holy celebration. And then I Googled it. And I'm sorry, but we're going next year. Really? It sounded like you're at a New Year's Eve party, but there's also tribal drums.
Starting point is 00:04:34 And then I Googled it and people were doing all the powder dye throwing and all that kind of stuff. Like a color run. Yeah. Like a color run. Yeah, like a color run, but no running. Partying. Yeah. And it sounded so fun.
Starting point is 00:04:45 So we had this like- Do they do Aperol spritzers? I was- Would they be dry? Yeah, be dry. Yeah, be dry. I don't believe- We'd have to take a-
Starting point is 00:04:52 A little hip blast. A thermos of- Yeah, a little- Aperol. Yeah, yeah, yeah. We'd have to do something. Dry in both senses of dry. Dry no booze and dry as in falafel.
Starting point is 00:05:01 Because they don't eat meat. Yeah. Or mushrooms. Good food, though. Good Good food though, good food. Oh, amazing food. How much better would it be with some bacon? Off the debate. Yeah, but we could be
Starting point is 00:05:10 when I go booze and bacon. You know what I mean? We're turning up. So not the noisiest person in the neighbourhood. Not this weekend. It was amazing though. It was like we've been in the Highlands,
Starting point is 00:05:19 then I'm having a little rock and roll concert, now I'm having a DJ set and I'm hanging out with the Hare Krishnas. Beautiful.
