The 4th of December.
Remember, remember the 4th of December.
Yes.
That's a great way of remembering it.
You've got until the 4th of December to get your podcast shout-outs into us.
There's a little questionnaire.
And we have that questionnaire online at a handy URL, Hayley Sproul.
www.zmonline.com forward slash cocktail special.
Yep.
You don't need to do the dub, dub, dub.
You do.
H-T-T-P colon forward slash, forward slash.
Forward slash.
Forward slash.
www.zmonline.com forward slash cocktail special.
Yeah, get those in class.
Cock is spelled C-O-C-K.
Yep.
Tail as in the animal tail. Animal tail. T-A-I-K. Yep. Tail as in the animal tail.
T-A-I-L.
And special as in special.
As in special.
You're special.
He's a special boy.
Yep.
Look at that special boy.
Get those into us.
Last week, before we launched HTTP colon slash slash
and cocktail special,
I was asked to go and talk to my daughter's class.
We talked about this on air.
That's right.
How did it go?
It went well.
It went well.
So you were a celebrity guest speaker?
No, I wasn't a celebrity guest speaker.
Did you get paid?
Did you get a fee?
I didn't get a fee, no.
Oh, okay.
I got kudos.
Oh, yeah.
Thanks.
Was it for a project?
They're doing inquiry this last term as they all have to create some content.
Oh, God, are we teaching that in
schools now? Content creation.
Making more influences. Jesus Christ, we don't need
more influences. But it could be a podcast,
it could be a blog, it could be a
vlog, it could be, what else are they doing? A kid was
writing a book. Did any kids do
some kind of expose, like ripping
the lid off the Catholic church or anything?
Nah. Oh yeah, that'd be great.
Do you remember that time, that kid at school
who turned out to be...
Jenny So.
Yeah, TV One news presenter.
She found out, she did that science experiment
and there was fuck all vitamin C in...
Ribena.
Ribena.
That's what I did too.
That is the most legendary...
Wait a minute, what are you doing?
Piggyback off Jenny's hard work.
Yeah, when I was in primary school, how old's Jenny?
Hard to tell. She could be... She's young. Younger than you. Well, looks younger was in primary school, how old's Jenny? Hard to tell. She could be.
She's young. Younger than you. Well,
looks younger. Yeah, well then she's writing on me.
She presents younger. In 2000, listen up
Jenny bitch. In 2001
I did a science
experiment at Muratai Intermediate. That would
be before Jenny. The vitamin C content
of things that claim they have vitamin C. I did
Barocca, I did Ribena, I did
orange juice, I did a vitamin C supplement.
How did you test that?
There was a book that taught you how to do it,
and it was like iodine solution
and some kind of blue thing you put it in,
and whatever color showed you how much vitamin C.
Yeah, thanks.
It's crazy that she's getting the kudos for it.
Do you know what I mean?
Spinoff have an article
remembering when two teenagers
Nearly brought down Ribena
Love it and there's a whole article about it
It was 20 years
So this was in
But mine was before then
So she was 2003
Yeah I was 2001
You didn't like
What?
Sounds like your mum and dad did your homework Hayley
No I did it myself. I had the board.
Remember those presentation boards, the three-way with the little curved bits?
Science fair.
Yeah, you had to go to the local electronics store and get a fridge box.
I had my hypothesis, and I had my methodology of testing,
and then I had my synopsis.
And the results.
And the results.
See, conclusion.
Fucking hell.
See, their one was actually 2004, I correct myself.
They tried to investigate whether or not cheaper food drink brands were less healthy.
And the focus of the experiment showed that Ribena contained almost no trace of vitamin C at the time.
Even though they claimed to be.
Even though they claimed.
And it resulted in a $227,000 court case that risked seeing Ribena become
just another discontinued food item.
Where's the cranny, granny?
Remember that ad?
That wasn't Ribena News.
I grew up on cranny because of my kidney issues
and constant recurring urine infections.
Where's the cranny, granny?
Oh my God, what a fascinating article.
It's on the spin-off if you want to Google it and have a read.
Fascinating
Well obviously she heard about
A young girl in Eastbourne
And it went to court
And everything
Funny
Amazing
So good
So you inspired
Do you think you inspired the kids
Well yeah
Because they're doing
Content creation
Not like
Taking down massive
Multinational
Cheap drinks companies
Although one of them
Might look into it
I don't know
But yeah I talked about
The changing
You know how There wasn't the technology To do this sort of thing When we were at school Although one of them might look into it, I don't know. But yeah, I talked about the changing, you know,
how there wasn't the technology to do this sort of thing
when we were at school and just technology change
and radio and podcasts.
God, did it sound like you were an old man yelling into the ether?
Pretty much.
And the teachers kept going, yep, yep, yep,
because they were all my age.
Yeah, yeah, I remember, yep, I remember that.
Oh, God.
No, I don't know.
I said to August afterwards, I was like, how was that?
She was like, it was good.
And then after school, when she came home.
She was like, don't ever fucking embarrass me like that again.
Yeah, I was like affectionate to her at school and stuff,
and she was all good.
And then afterwards, I was like, oh, is that a guy I didn't embarrass you?
She was like, no, no, it was really good.
So that was nice.
That's nice.
That was nice that she wasn't embarrassed by my presence.
Do you spit on your sleeve and wipe the sleep out of her eye
before you drop her off?
Yeah, I was like, there you go, a little sleep in the eye there.
I used to hate that.
But there was those sorts of kids where one,
there was this group sitting at the front,
and they just kind of were like looking the whole time,
like listening.
And they were the ones at the back like daydreaming.
And then at the end, one of the ones at the back like daydreaming yeah and then at the end one of them
one of the boys asked the question he's like so how would you say i'm gonna make my blog better
and the teacher was like he's just spent half an hour saying how to why weren't you listening i was
like it's all right mate some of us i'll leave this slideshow presentation i made behind you
can have a look at that but it was pretty funny because I could tell he wasn't really listening
the whole time. But then the teacher did say
that I'd voice cartoon characters, so that was
all the kids really wanted to talk about. Oh, you'd give us
your cartoon character voice? I don't really want to. I already had to in front
of a group of kids. You felt embarrassed? I felt so
embarrassed.
So embarrassed to just look at a bunch of
kids and be like,
okay, here's the voice I did, and then do it. I can't
do it again.
That's bad enough.
It still wasn't as bad as that Careers Day I went to in South Auckland.
Nothing ever will be.
No.
So, well, that's good to know.
Yeah, that's great to know.
Consider the children...
