Welcome to A Little Bit of Pod.
Now, at the weekend, Shadow went away for a girls weekend.
She did.
She came home.
You were solo parenting.
I was solo parenting.
So to speak.
Oh, wow.
Yeah.
I always really like it.
I prefer it. Well, because she's not there to tell you. I always really like it. I prefer it.
Well, because she's not there to tell you.
But my partner's not home.
You prefer it when your partner's home.
Do you know what I mean?
You seem to like it a bit too much.
Yeah, I would prefer.
I think it's because when Shada is there, I'm the stricter of the parents.
So the girls expect there to be a lot of rules and then there's not as much rules because
they lax a little bit.
And then we all have fun.
Yeah.
Do you know what I mean?
Yeah.
Is that right?
Is that what happens?
Are you the stricter parent?
Yes, you are.
Yes, definitely.
And if I say something's going to happen, it happens.
Whereas Sade will change her mind about it 20 minutes later.
Oh, she's a pushover.
Was your dad the stricter parent or mum?
Ah, mum.
Mum was stricter.
My parents presented United front.
Yeah, they were both pretty strict.
Yeah.
So we had a good time
And the girls were like
Watch this
Dad you're gonna love this
You gotta watch this
And now this is
Something they say
Generally before I see
Something I don't love
Kids
And it'll be some
Stupid prank video
So they know
I like Mark Rober
And whenever
Because Mark Rober's awesome
He's this engineer on YouTube
He's very very clever
And he makes cool things
Yep He made that squirrel Yeah Of a single, which is still one of his finest videos.
And they said, you're going to like this.
And I was like, I will watch the start of it and I will decide.
And then they start showing me a video by Dr. Plants.
What's Dr. Plants?
Dude.
Dr. Plants.
I'll say it.
Fucking rules.
Fucking rules. Is it about houseplants? Rules. Nope. Becauseants. I'll say it. Fucking rules. Fucking rules.
Is it about house plants?
Nope.
Because I follow lots of plants.
The first one that we watched, he's like, I'm going to create a miniature environment
under the sea.
Whoa.
And he gets this big fish tank, and he has done his research.
Simulating an ocean for 100 days.
Yeah, and he's done his research, so he packs the bottom, and then he gets some rocks and
stuff, and then he's like, and the first ones that go in there
krill. And he puts the krill in. Subscribe.
And then there's krill everywhere. And he's like, day 12.
He jumps straight to 12. The krill have established.
There's too many krills so we need to introduce
krill prey.
So it's something that comes in and hunts the krill.
And then that's doing too well. Whoa.
So he's got to introduce something else.
And he's all about this balancing ecosystem
and his camera work is phenomenal.
I'm just watching it.
Look at it.
It is incredible.
Yeah.
And then he turns on like, he introduces these little prawn things.
Shrimp.
Prawn crackers.
All the camera work is prawn crackers.
I love prawn crackers.
Yes.
These little shrimp.
They're like punching shrimp or something.
And they dig a hole for these other fish.
And so they work as a team.
This fish goes out and gets the stuff, comes back, and the prawns eat the-
So it's a whole ecosystem.
And he runs it for 100 days.
He simulated what it's like seeing a hurricane, like the lights flashing, and he shook the thing and told you how they all react.
What does he do with them?
Oh, yeah, there's the prawns going in.
The prawns are going in.
The prawns?
The prawns. What does he do with it after day, yeah, there's the prawns going in. The prawns are going in. The prawns? The prawns.
What does he do with it after day 100?
That's what me and the kids do not know.
He just takes it to the tip.
He just chucks it out, just pulls it down the sinkerator or something.
Because you couldn't put that in the ocean.
He did another one.
He did now Oz in after that.
He's done the desert.
The desert rules.
That's what I was about to tell you about the desert because he floods it.
Holy shit.
Simulating a desert for 100 days.
It's amazing. He floods it and Holy shit. Simulating a desert for 100 days. Yeah, he floods it.
He floods it
and they all go to the high ground.
All the animals
and all the bugs and stuff.
This one is eight months old.
The simulating a desert
for 100 days.
It had 28 million views.
It's just like
I could 100% watch it again.
Same.
The camera work
and everything is surprising.
It's very...
See, that's where he floods it.
Yeah.
Like up close camera work. Beautiful. Very Edinburgh. BBC Earth See, that's where he floods it. Yeah. Like up close camera work.
Beautiful.
Very Edinburgh.
BBC Earth.
Yeah, very much.
BBC Earth.
Yeah.
And there's scorpions in that one.
I'm in the forest for 100 days.
Amazing.
Oh, we've been in the forest.
But then also...
Oh, I think we might have done the forest.
Because at one stage, he also takes the animals out and then sets one on fire.
Like a bush fire.
This is what it would look like if it caught on fire. Oh, it takes the animals out. Takes all the animals in both. I think he takes the animals out and then sets one on fire. Like a bush fire. This is what it would look like if it caught on fire.
Oh, takes the animals out.
Takes all the animals.
I think he takes the animals out and set an animal on fire.
No, no, no.
He sets the environment on fire.
And then, like, once it's cool, puts them all back in.
And it shows how crucial different animals and everybody plays their role in, like, restoring it.
And then he's like, I honestly thought this was the end of the thing.
And then, boom, it bounces back to life.
Yeah.
See, Vaughan's really changed his tune
because he wanted that new motorway
to go through a swampland marsh.
Yeah, he did.
And now he's all like,
oh, we've got to save the marsh.
Save the marsh.
Yeah, definitely.
You know me, big marsh guy.
Well, you weren't last week until you saw this.
And now you're a big marsh guy.
Those are jumping beans.
You just wanted to get into work faster. Those are jumping beans, And now you're a big man. Now he's a big man. Those are jumping beans. You just wanted to get into work faster.
Those are jumping beans, those things you're seeing right now.
I'm going to watch these one day.
Do you know what?
I'm loving it.
Do you know what?
Can I say this on the podcast?
If you were a little bit high, it would be a fun thing.
Yeah, I was thinking the same thing.
If you were just a little bit high.
Sitting in a bean bag.
People do that and watch the BBC Earth and all the Edinburgh docos.
The only thing with that is now if you had a bad gummy and you were sitting there
and you got hysterically crying because of the skinny polar bears.
Do you know what I mean?
This is why you watch this because it's quite hard to feel too sorry for a scorpion.
When those seals went off the rocks.
What was that one?
Oh, I don't know.
The walruses.
The walruses.
I watched a video the other day of these killer whales.
There were some seals just having a little...
Oh, the iceberg.
Yeah, and then they all bumped the iceberg and waved them off,
and then ate them.
That old called Playful Friendly Whales, mate.
They're literally called Killer Motherfucking Whales.
Yeah, I mean, I guess you're right.
It is a big clue in the name there.
Yeah, huge.
Guys, I'm watching the walruses fall off the cliff.
No, don't watch that.
Go back to Mr. Plants, Dr. Plants.
Dr. Plants.
I don't know what he's got planned next. Don't watch that, don't watch that. Go back to Mr. Plants, Dr. Plants. Dr. Plants. I don't know what he's got planned next.
Don't watch that.
Take a gummy and watch Mr.
Plants, Dr. Plants. He should put like five Gen Z's
in a tank and then slowly
take away their iPhones. He probably
will. Make them work nine to five.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Are you alright? I've ruined my fucking day.
I don't know why you watched that.
Sharlay and I watched that,
and it was the first time I've ever been watching a nature documentary,
and I'm like, fast forward, fast forward, fast forward, fast forward,
down the bottom until the scenery changed.
But I think it was right at the end of the episode.
It's sad.
It's so sad.
Why did you do that to yourself?
And they've got those big teeth,
so you know some of them are hitting the rock
and blowing through the back of the skull?
Oh, yeah.
I just, like, before I closed my laptop, I just looked away and all the bodies were on the bottom.
Yeah.
You've done, literally, you did this to yourself.
Do you reckon orcas come along and they're like, what the fuck happened here?
I'm sort of in the mood now, like, maybe I'm just going to watch the cove.
It'd be a bit like going to, like, a a buffet but all the chicken and all the mates on the floor
right beside the cabinet. It's kind of there
ready to eat but it's
kind of... Either it'd be more like
having the hunt taken out of it. Or you walk into the
forest and there's a dead pig. It would be more like
just going to a buffet. The hunt has
been taken out of it.
No, you're just pushing it in your mouth.
Oh, she's crying.
She's had a big weekend.
I'm vulnerable.
Yeah.
Well, go forth.
Watch Dr. Plants.
Yeah, I need a bit of that now.
You need to go back to some plants now for some good stuff.
