Thanks, guys. Yeah, so this is just a producer podcast where we answer listener questions.
Starting point is 00:00:29 It's pretty cool. Yeah, Fletch, Warren and Hayley have left the building and we have been left unsupervised, which I feel like is the flip of normal. Normally, we're supervising them. Yeah. Now we're unsupervised. I'm just on the Facebook post that you would have all seen if you're in the international podcast family. Let's just start off with this one. What does a typical day in the life of a producer look like?
Starting point is 00:00:49 We all know FEH tend to spawn off pretty early Yeah, they do So our day starts bang on five We all rock up around then and just kind of get underway So I'll check the logs Make sure there's no audio needed for that day And just kind of get underway. So I'll check the logs, make sure there's no audio needed for that day and just kind of do the technical stuff. Yeah, Carwin will kind of collate all the ideas
Starting point is 00:01:12 for the show in the morning and then I'll get Carwin's collation and then collate the collation onto a run sheet. And then sometimes you'll see that in the videos, they have paper in front of them with what they need to do. Yeah, and that's us. Yeah. And then, yeah, you guys will do the callers during the show yep yep i'll do the videos during the show and then
Starting point is 00:01:30 afterwards we all kind of do whatever responsibilities we need and then leave at a different order and time every day yeah so i'll do pod uh there's social stuff there's admin stuff it's a busy day it's we're actually recording this at 5 p.m so yeah uh okay the other one that's kind of a similar one uh how did we get these jobs what did we study um i studied a diploma in broadcasting journalism at the new zealand radio training school um and then after five years working at a racing station, finally got my foot in the door here, which is pretty sweet, and just been here for the past three years. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:02:09 You go. You go, Shannon. Carwen and I actually studied at the same place, and we met each other there. She was the year above me, so that was at New Zealand Broadcasting School in Canterbury. And then, yeah, I got into radio and community radio when I was 12 and then have kind of been around a few stations here at our company
Starting point is 00:02:26 and then moved to ZM six months ago now, which is crazy. Wow, six months. Oh my gosh, happy half birthday. I might be able to crawl soon. Isn't that when babies start crawling? I wouldn't know. I don't know, you're asking the wrong people. Okay, what about how we discipline the team um i guess it kind of falls more under
Starting point is 00:02:50 my role yeah as ep mostly physically right yeah no i tie them down she has a wad of newspaper um also a water pistol sometimes just you know how you like shoot a cat with a water pistol? No, they're usually pretty good. There's a lot of strong words, a lot of stern words, a lot of glares. Also, when we want them to like wrap up a segment, there's a lot of arm waving, wrist tapping, emojis in the chat being like, wrap it up. Yeah. But otherwise, you you know nothing too physical love that have you had any time on air before you got into producing yes um i hosted a very early morning sunday uh show on my old racing station um where i basically just wrapped up interviews
Starting point is 00:03:41 that we did throughout the week and replayed them so it was very much gonna say that you just wrapped oh yeah yeah no um I bet I was basically like hey you're on xyz radio station last week so and so talked to this person here's how it played out hey oh nice yeah Shannon you've spent heaps of time yeah yeah yeah I started when I was 12 and I kind of worked my way through a community station and then did announcing through my degree and then I actually work my full-time job is this with Fletch, Warren and Hayley but I also work part-time for ZDM on the weekends so if you're ever driving on the weekend and hear someone called Shannon it is the same person as Shannon Lette Pyjamas. I've had a few people text me going is that the same girl and I think it's purely because I only talk about Fletch, Warren
Starting point is 00:04:24 and Hayley content because it's the content I know best. She's biased. I am quite biased. I do love Bray and Clint but I'm like you guys got to go see this video on Fletch, Warren and Hayley's page. It's a really good video. I totally didn't make it myself. Yeah also if you weren't working in radio what would you be doing? I actually got offered a scholarship for history randomly. So potentially that, but I don't think I would have enjoyed it as a real job. I think, yeah, I was so keen on radios. Were you guys? I actually don't know. I worked at Pack and Save straight out of school and had no idea what I wanted to do. And a random customer was like, you talk a lot, you should do radio. And then I did.
Starting point is 00:05:06 And that was kind of it. Some random person told me to do what I'm doing now. If he hadn't, I still don't think I'd know what to do. Yeah, I only just learned this about you. That's like such a great story of how you got here because the rest of us were just radio nerds and we're like, oh, I love the radio, I love talking. Yeah. Because you did community radio as well, right, Helen?
Starting point is 00:05:23 Yeah, just a little bit in high school. But talking on air is not for me. Not for me me at all you're so good at the admin side like you're like you're great on it's like boring and i don't have a story carlin and i have beef um no but carlin is yeah she's the ep so she will coordinate all the interviews and stuff um that's all done by her and she's very good at it loves an email loves an email um do we have favorites from the team FBA specifically you don't have to tell me I'm not your favorite oh my goodness the producing one I guess Vaughn just because we like hang out outside of work yeah that's fair games and stuff I have a lot of admiration for Fletch with his technical skills
Starting point is 00:06:06 because I think it's something I'm so interested in and something I do on the weekends and how he manages the board, the desk, I should say. And his technical skills, I just am so admirable of. And then also Hayley and how she is a female in broadcasting. It's so, like, I just admire the two. Not that I don't admire Vaughan. That made it sound like April Vaughan.
Starting point is 00:06:25 But yeah, I definitely, I feel very inspired when I see what Fletch does at work. It definitely just tickles something in my brain. So should I pick Hayley because. Yeah, otherwise we'll get in trouble. We'll get a DM in the chat. Oh yeah, no, I love Hayley. She's the best. No, I think I do have the most in common with Hayley to be fair.
Starting point is 00:06:38 We're both theater kids and. And your music tastes. You guys like. Yeah. A little music. Fashion. She will convince me to buy things and I will convince her to buy things. That's great. This one guys like a little music. Fashion. She will convince me to buy things
Starting point is 00:06:45 and I will convince her to buy things. That's great. This one's quite a funny one. Do we actually like our nicknames? Now, I don't really mind.
Starting point is 00:06:55 Mine, Carween, is probably the lightest of the nicknames you could potentially come up with from my name.
Starting point is 00:07:01 Please don't. But I've had them in the past. Yeah. But, Chanelette, I, like, there's so many worse things to don't but I've had them in the past yeah but Chanelette I like there's so many worse things to be called but I think the thing that's the funniest is people who hear it on a one-off and like and my parents and like people like that are always like why and they
Starting point is 00:07:16 don't really get it and they're like there must be a story or did you wear pajamas to work or what happened I'm like nothing happened they just found a pun that my name could fit into the term chandelier pyjamas pretty funnily. And that's it. So it doesn't bother me because there's no deeper meaning, but it is confusing to a lot of people why. And it's definitely stark. It's very unique. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:07:35 Yeah. And I never know how to spell it as well. Yeah, it's a hard one. I don't know if I'm double N or what, but yeah. I just look at the group chat. However, Vaughn probably put it in the group chat. Yeah. No, I definitely don't mind. I don't like jizzy pizzle yeah no there was contentious contention about that one time it's all right it's better than nothing I guess
Starting point is 00:07:54 at least I cared enough to give you one yeah um and lastly what is our favorite part of our job start off with you Carwen oh um I get it you want time to think and i also need that as well all right i'll cut out the thinking time i don't know i think there's some pretty cool opportunities that we get that other jobs don't like we get to do some random travel every so often we get to cool like see cool celebrities or meet them or go to gigs that i think if you're just working in an office job you probably don't get that but I think it's also really cool that we all six of us are like pretty good friends and that we could go to each other for things if we really need like
Starting point is 00:08:34 Vaughn famously brought me lolly slice all the way on the other side of Auckland when I had COVID so I feel like we're pretty lucky that we have a good relationship with each other damn you stole my one um this is why you go first yeah bugger um favorite part I don't know it's like just the job as a whole is real hands-on so it's always like I personally for me I'm always doing something like editing or fixing or something so it it's never for me, admin-y, organizing meeting stuff, because I'm real bad at that. Yeah, I like the hands-on side of it. I definitely love this job so much. And I feel like it's been a pinch me of like being a fan of ZM for so long and like genuinely being a fan of the announcers and now working with them in a
Starting point is 00:09:21 collaborative role where we like get to throw ideas around the room and we all work together and you know I'll pitch videos and they don't shoot me down and like it's real cool because I have worked with other announcers and I spent so much time at my other station to feel part of the Fletch, Warn and Hayley family and like the way you guys have accepted me it's just been really cool and like to be able to do announcing as well as producing I feel like a lot of growth in this role. So it's really exciting. Like the Hannah Montana, best of both worlds. Oh my goodness. Thank you.
Starting point is 00:09:50 What are you right now? Are you Miley or are you Hannah? Oh, that's a good question. That's a silly little poll. Oh, are you feeling like Hannah or Miley right now? Love that. Write that down, write that down.
