If you are guests, we want to welcome you to 2819.
And to all of our digital disciples who are watching me live right now across the nation and around the world.
We want to welcome you to 2819.
And if you are amongst us right now, and you are not a follower of the Lord Jesus Christ.
Whether you're sitting in this room or you're sitting in that overflow, watching me not overflow, you're not a follower of Christ.
We know that some of you are in this room, some of you are sitting in that overflow room.
And we want you to know that we are glad that you are here.
I want you to know personally that you can belong before you believe.
You can be amongst us before you believe.
And our constant prayer is that through the proclamation
of God's Word and by the power of the Holy Spirit a moment is gonna come maybe
today. That a moment is gonna come in one of these sacred gatherings in which you
will throw yourself on the altar of the Lord Jesus Christ and surrender your
life to him hear me before time has run out on you because wherever I travel in the
country and as often as I get an opportunity to share with as many people as possible I'm going
to keep reminding people and they're not going to shut me up that time is running out okay and this
is not the hour to be playing around with God or playing around with your walk with Jesus. I want to say something.
This is not the hour to be distracted by foolishness. This is not the hour to be led astray. This
is the hour to be locked in with your relationship with the Lord, because I believe that time
is running out. We are all on a clock right now that is counting backwards, and the Lord is going to put it in his appearance
and we're going to get some to some passages in the back half of Matthew that just reminds us
the simple question are you going to be ready for that there's a lot of people playing church but
you're not going to be ready for that we're going to keep playing conferences, but you're not going to be ready for that.
If he put in his appearance this afternoon and the sky cracked this afternoon, would
you be ready for his return?
Are you going to be ready for that?
So I want to awaken as many people as possible. That time is running out for the believer, for us to get serious, and for the unbeliever
to hurl yourself on the altar of Christ.
We don't have that much time left.
So we are in a series, halfway through a series called Entry and End Times, in which we are
walking through Matthew chapter 21 through 25 together.
As a church, we are studying the final actions and the final words of our Lord Jesus Christ
in the final weeks, the final days of his life. In this particular message we're gonna come out
of Matthew chapter 22 verses 41 through 46 will be our text for this morning.
Probably one of the most important passages in this first half of this
series. So eternal God and ever wise Father. Lord I come against every
distraction in this room and that overflow across that camera. I come
against blindness in the eyes of men and women.
I come against deafness in the ears of men and women.
I come against distractions and everything that's trying to take the attention of the
sons and daughters in this moment in this hour.
Father more than a sermon.
We need a wake up Father Father, for the people under the
sound of my voice. And I pray in my weakness you would empower me now to
proclaim the truth of this glorious gospel and the truth of this sacred text.
We want to lean in to be taught. We want your son to be exalted
Draw us to yourself right now as Christ is exalted not man not sermons not empty words
Draw us to yourself as Christ is exalted
we ask in the mighty and
the majestic and
We ask in the mighty and the majestic and the matchless name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, if you agree with that, just say amen.
Say amen.
Say amen. Family, I want to start this message with this powerful word called identity.
Personal identity is when someone has a knowledge of who they truly are on the inside.
When a person has a strong sense of identity, those persons are often marked by clarity.
When a person has a strong sense of identity, that person's life is also
marked by confidence. When a person has a strong sense of identity,
that person's life is often marked by what? An ability to make good decisions.
When a person has a strong sense of identity, that person's life is often
marked by strength. And where true identity is not known, confusion abounds.
And where true identity is rejected, relational tension abounds. And where true identity is rejected, relational tension abounds.
And where true identity is not accepted, false narratives, or where true identity
is distorted or not accepted, false narratives about a person can abound. Listen, the enemy, Satan, that old serpent of all, who is a vicious, vicious
accuser of the people of God and an enemy of God, knows the power of identity. This
is why he will stop at nothing to blind as many believers as possible to their true identity. This is why he would stop
at nothing to try to strip people of their true identity. This is why he would
stop at nothing to try to attack those who have a true sense of who they really
are in Christ. Satan will do everything he can to rob people who have a true
sense of identity and attack people who have a true sense of identity and
attack people who have a true sense of identity. Some of you know this
personally when you've gone through a divorce, you've gone through a bad
relationship, a breakup, a circumstance of life that made you even question who
you really are on the inside. Your insecurities have made you question your
identity. The things you've been waiting for that the Lord has not answered has made you question your identity. The mistakes you've made have made you question your identity the things you've been waiting for that the Lord has not answered has made you question
Your identity the mistakes you've made have made you question your identity and of all the people in the history of the world
Whose identity has ever been attacked?
No attacks on no person has ever suffered more attacks on their identity
Than the historical
figure of the Lord Jesus Christ. Jesus is the most attacked person in the
history of the world. For over 2,000 years, philosophers and sages and
religious people have either attacked the identity of Christ or they have tried to diminish the identity of Christ. For over 2,000 years, every false religion in the history of the
world has either attacked the identity of Christ or they have tried to diminish the
identity of Christ. And what is the confusion at the center of his identity, not his existence?
This is why believers should stop convincing people that Jesus is real
That's a stupid argument. There's documented evidence for his life
We're not talking about a mythological person. Nobody got to convince you that George Washington was real
Nobody got to convince you that Martin Luther King was real believers should stop saying man. You should believe Jesus is real
You should stop saying that
It makes him sound fictitious. There's documented evidence for his life in the Scriptures and out the Scriptures.
Hear me, he was a historical figure. And the attacks against him is not about his
existence. No family. The attacks around the identity of Christ is what he claimed to be. Deity. Was he a
prophet or more than a prophet? Was he a healer or more than a healer? Was he the
most influential man in the history of the world or was he more than an influencer? The Christians, the Jews, the Muslims, the Mormons, the Jehovah's Witnesses,
none of them agree about the true identity of Christ.
And right now, as I'm talking to you all across society and around the world,
there is a conversation raging in societies around
the world about the true identity of Christ.
That whenever his name is brought up, his identity is either attacked, watch, it is
rejected or it is diminished.
It is made inadequate.
That is, his identity is not enough.
This is the issues behind the backdrop of the text we
approached this morning together.
You remember from the beginning of this series,
Christ has come into the city of Jerusalem for what would be
the final week of his earthly life in ministry.
He has upset the status quo of the religious order.
He has been confronted by the religious elite
inside the temple.
He has pronounced judgment on them.
He has gotten to a heated discussion with them.
He has backed them down with his wisdom
and with his theology from the word of God.
And after he has backed down these religious groups,
the Pharisees and the Sadducees and the
Herodians and the disciples of the Sadducees, Matthew would now record what will be the ending
of this heated exchange that's been going on for two chapters between Jesus and the religious leaders
of the day. Matthew would now give us this historical account that brings this argument to a finality
And what Jesus says I'm done with y'all now watch it's time to pivot and move on
Sometimes you got to know what to tell people it's time to pivot and move on
Matthew records in Matthew chapter 22 and
beginning in verse 41 the ending of this exchange
between Christ and these religious leaders. Now while the Pharisees was
gathered together, Jesus asked them a question, stop. So up until this point,
the religious leaders have been questioning Christ, trying to trap him in
his words.
And now Christ would turn the tables on them,
and now he will ask them a question.
Now I just wanna draw your attention
to two things in the text.
First, I wanna draw to your attention
when Matthew says, now.
That word now is a reminder of the setting.
So I just wanna bring back to your attention
the setting that we're in right now. This is happening during the Jewish Feast of Passover.
Hear me. There are thousands of people in the city of Jerusalem.
Jesus is standing in the temple when they first confronted Him.
There are thousands of people around that temple. This is not private.
This is public.
People are listening to this exchange.
Unbelievers are listening to this exchange.
Jews are listening to this exchange.
Everybody's locked into here.
Who's gonna win this battle between this man
who claimed to be the Messiah and these Jewish leaders?
And now I wanna draw your attention
to the second thing in the text
It says the Pharisees was gathered together watch in the crowd
That means in the crowd in that temple was the group of the Pharisees who had did everything they can to try to discredit
The Lord Jesus now, this is very powerful to me that Matthew would use this word gathered
I like this word gathered is what we call these
gatherings and not services. Hear me? This is very powerful to me because man there are people in
that crowd who see that group of Pharisees in the crowd and they see them as the watch, the most
spiritually influential people of the day. A person like me who's reading the text is thinking to myself,
man, man, they remind me of the fact that there are circles that emerge around the
context of spirituality that did not come from God. And there are circles that
emerge, religious circles that emerge in culture that did not come from God, and
that they are religious circles that emerge even in culture that did not come from God. And that they are religious circles that emerge
even in churches that did not come from God.
Here is a group of people in a crowd
who is seen as the religious elite,
but their hearts are not with God.
And in the same way, we gotta have enough discernment
to know not every group that emerges in culture,
that doesn't mean they've come from God.
Not every group that forms inside of a church, that doesn't mean it've come from God. Not every group that forms inside of a church that doesn't mean it has come from God. You
got to have the sermon before you hop into a group meet with people in a
church. You got to have the sermon before you just run to some conference to run
after some new group that just emerged around the church context.
Man, I'm reading the text and I'm wondering to myself, I wonder how many people in that
gathering right there had enough discernment to know the difference between the heart of
the Pharisees and the heart of Christ.
I'm going to go deeper.
I wonder how many people in that gathering had enough discernment to know Should we listen to the man that was bringing revival intonation and upsetting the status quo or should we cling to the old
stale dead
Religion of these Pharisees who should we listen to the people that have always been that not moved us further or the man
That's ushering revival into the nation of Israel. I wonder who we should be listening to right now in this hour. Should we listen
to this man who is disrupting the quo or should we listen to these
men that have given us nothing but heavy burdens? I'm trying to elder. So now while
the Pharisees are gathered together, Jesus now takes the opportunity to ask them
a question, verse 42, saying, what do you think about the Christ?
Whose son is he?
Stop.
So Jesus asked them, watch, a compound question.
Now this is powerful, help us he asked them
two questions in one what do you think about the Christ and whose son is he
family this is one of the most important questions that the world will ever
wrestle with in the history of humanity what do you think about the Christ and
whose son is he hear me there are people who are in false religions
that have died and got this question wrong,
and it has cost them their souls in eternity.
All right, I'm gonna go deeper.
There are people right now who are believing something
about this question that is wrong,
and it can cost them their soul in eternity.
There are people right now who have died
and woke up on the other side of death
and have gotten this question wrong.
And family, hear me, you don't wanna go to your funeral
and get this question wrong.
You don't wanna come down to the end of your life
and have this question wrong.
You don't wanna get down to the end of your church
going years and get this question wrong.
Who is the Christ? Whose son is he? What do you think about the Christ? You don't
want to get this question wrong. Too many people over the course of history have
died and have gotten the answer to this question wrong. What do you think about
the Christ? This is one of the most important questions any human being will
ever get asked and I feel the Spirit of God is asking someone right now under the sound of my voice.
What do you think about the Christ? Is he worthy of your life? Is he worthy of your praise? Is he worthy of your surrender? Is he worthy of your church attendance? Is he worthy of your finances? What do you really think about your Christ? Your mouth, your attitude, your life already tells us
what you really think about the Christ.
Jesus!
And Jesus is asking them, hear me, a legitimate question.
Now family, pay attention, okay?
Christ is not Jesus' last name.
Come on, come on, come on. Amen, amen. Okay, Christ is not Jesus's last name The word Christ is a New Testament term for watch the anointed one
Which is a reference to the Old Testament writers believing for a person they call the Messiah
So in the Old Testament era
they would call this person the Messiah. In the New Testament era that you and I
live in we would call this person the Christ, the anointed one, the Christos,
the anointed one. Watch. So Jesus is asking them a legitimate question. What
do you think about the Christ?
Now remember, it was Jesus who put together
this elaborate entry into Jerusalem,
riding on a donkey according to the scriptures,
indirectly telling everyone, I am the Christ.
It was Jesus, watch, who came into the city of Jerusalem,
hearing people shouting at him, saying that he was the Christ.
It was Jesus who told the story of the vineyard,
the parable of the vineyard, who made himself a son,
who was killed by the tenants of the vineyard,
who was, watch, the son of a father,
who indirectly was telling them I am the Christ it
Was Jesus who came into Jerusalem through these actions and through these words
Indirectly communicating I am the Christ
It's Jesus talking to a group of men who probably know that watch and reject his true identity
He asked him a second question, whose son is he?
Watch, this is a legitimate question, why?
Because the Christ or the Messiah from the Old Testament era, we're talking about sonship.
And the sonship of the Christ has something to do with the identity of that person.
Now follow the text.
So Jesus asked him a legitimate question.
What is he doing? He's probing to see their knowledge of the Scriptures, their
knowledge of prophecy, their knowledge of who this Messiah, watch, y'all been
waiting for this person for thousands of years. You can't even see that he's
standing right in front of you. He has healed.
He has raised people from the dead.
He has spoken the storms and they have calmed down.
He's speaking to somebody's storm right now in your heart.
It will calm down.
He has controlled nature.
He has shown divine wisdom.
He has shown divine prophecy.
He has fulfilled prophecy.
And they still reject who he is and
now he asked them whose son is he?
Where is his origin?
Whose father is the Christ's father?
Who is his son?
This is what he's asking in the second compound question.
The sonship of the Messiah is a matter of identity.
Now watch, watch how they respond.
This is very important. Verse 43, watch.
And then they said to him, whose son is he? Verse 42, the back half, I'm sorry.
Whose son is he? They said to him, the son of David. Now people stop. This is not a trick question.
They know the Old Testament scriptures. Everybody watch this. The Pharisees know the Old Testament scriptures.
Watch.
Watch.
They know the Old Testament scriptures.
So when the Lord asks, whose son is the Christ?
Whose son is he?
They respond with what they think is the biblical answer.
He's the son of David.
Now watch.
David was the greatest king of ancient Israel and we know from the Old Testament that God
promised King David that from his lineage a son will come that will sit on his throne
forever.
Solomon did not fulfill that. None of David's biological sons fulfill that. But the only
person who fulfilled that is asking them now, whose son is this? And they said the
son of David. Now watch. They know from the Bible that the Messiah must be a biological
heir or lineage of
David. I mean sure they're not the only ones that know that. The Jewish people
know that. That's why when Christ comes into the city they're shouting,
Hosanna thou son of David. I'm trying to. They're not paying attention. This is why
when Jesus was healing, blind people was on the side of the road saying,
have mercy on me, thou son of David.
So the Pharisees knew that the Messiah
had to be a son of David.
The Jews knew that the Messiah had to be a son of David.
Watch, even Matthew knows that the Messiah
had to be a son of David.
Matthew, who wrote the book we're studying,
meant he wrote this book to Jewish audience.
How does Matthew begin his book with a genealogy?
The first words, this is the genealogy of Jesus Christ,
the son of David.
So all the Jews knew that the Messiah, the Christ,
had to be from the lineage of David.
But they respond, the Son of David, their answer is not incorrect, but the answer is
inadequate because watch, they are confused about who the Messiah is supposed to be.
Now family, watch this, because I'm coming for half of you in this room. They have an inadequate view of the Messiah.
And their minds, watch, they're reading the Old Testament for thousands of years, and
they think that the Messiah is going to be a pure human who's going to be a military
leader, he's going to be a political leader, and when the Messiah comes, he's going to
join our team, he's going to help us overthrow Rome, and then the Messiah comes he's gonna join our team he's gonna help us overthrow Rome and then the Messiah and all of us we're gonna sit together in
charge of Jerusalem they are looking for a man they are not looking for the Son
of God
it's like believers today you're only looking for men, but you're not looking for the Son
of God.
You do the same thing when you listen to sermons.
You're only looking for yourself, but you're not looking for the Son of God.
God forbid anybody preaches a message that is about Christ and not about you.
You're bored, you want to go to sleep, you just want to get to the restaurant because
you're only looking for man, but you're not looking for the Son of God
You only want to be told about man, but you don't want to be told about the Son of God
You only have reverence for man, but we don't have reverence for the Son of God
God forbid anybody preach you for 40 minutes about Christ. That's not good enough for you
You want to be told about yourself? You don't want to be taught about the Son of God. I
Already know how it gets down in America. We only want to pile into places where people make us feel good about ourselves, but
God forbid anybody takes the time to teach us about the Son of God. Because in America, Jesus is not enough.
He's not enough.
He's not enough.
So they are looking for a human, political, military leader.
What they are not looking for is the Son of God.
And what Jesus is doing is programming to see do they understand who the Messiah really is?
They say the Son of David, in essence, i.e. they said he would just be a biological son, a man. Now verse 43,
watch how Jesus responds to their answer, and he said to them,
this is so insane to me.
And he said to them, this is so insane to me
Jesus sees watch everybody watch before I read the verse look eye contact
Y'all got Bibles. I see y'all looking down
Watch eye contact. I want you to notice this in the text
They respond with an incorrect answer.
The Lord is about to respond with the word of God. They respond with an inaccurate answer. The Lord is about to respond with the word of God. Watch, this will be the last time he talks to them about
this. Why? Because this is his last time he said I'm gonna give you a lot of opportunity to repent and get this right
And you're gonna know that about what goes on next in the next verses next week listen to me
This is very important because I want somebody to know that you keep you love songs about grace grace runs out
about grace. Grace runs out. You love songs that Jesus is love and Jesus is grace. I'm telling you, His love endures forever. His grace is going to run out. His patience will
run out with those who keep rejecting the gospel. That grace is good. His
I'm telling somebody across that camera.
You keep rejecting his correction his coaching his wooing his loving that grace is going to run out.
He said I will not strive with man forever.
Let me tell you what you don't want.
You don't want him to take
his hand off and turn his back on you. That's why the scripture says in the day
you hear this gospel, harden not your heart. For somebody in this room, somebody
in that overflow, somebody across that camera, his grace, his
patience is going to run out.
You can't keep saying, you're going to get right next week, next year.
You can't keep saying that.
How many church services we're going to drag you to before you respond to the Spirit of
God?
How many conferences you're going to keep going to until you respond to the Spirit of God How many conferences you're gonna keep going to until you respond to the Spirit of God?
How many times you're gonna hear this gospel until you respond to the Spirit of God?
How many times you're gonna get pricked by that gold like Saul until you finally respond to that calling of God
What the Lord will do right here will be
watched to confront them for his last time. He's gonna try to get... He's given
them one more opportunity to repent. It'll be the last time he try to correct
them. They give him an inadequate answer. He's the son of David. The Lord says in verse 43, He said to them, if
he's just a human son of David, how is it then that David in the Spirit calls him
Lord? If y'all think the Messiah is only a man, this is so powerful. Yo, Jesus is a
beast. Oh my God. I just want to run. Jesus is a beast. He says,
if you think the Messiah is only a human, how is it in the Spirit that David calls him
Lord? Saying that he quotes scriptures to them.
See the quotations.
The Lord David wrote said to my Lord, sit at my right hand until I put your enemies
under your feet.
Now stop.
Gosh, man, this text is so pregnant, I'm about to give birth to like 15 babies out of this
text.
Yeah, we got time. 15 babies out of this text.
Yeah, we got time. I'm gonna deliver a few babies out of this text.
Jesus asked them, what do you think about the Christ?
Whose son is he?
They said he's the son of David.
He's just a human being.
The Lord says if he's just a human being,
how come David in the spirit says, calls him Lord, which is a name for master? How could he call a son
a master? And then David writes, the Lord said to my Lord, sit at my right hand
until I make your enemies your footstool. Now watch, what Jesus quotes back to them is Psalm 110 verse
1. It is the most robust Masianic Psalm recorded in the scriptures. Psalm 110 has
more prophecies about the Messiah than any other prophecy, any other book, any
other passage in the Psalms. Psalm 110, he quotes to them Psalm 110-1. Watch. And in
Psalm 110-1, he quotes to them that David says,
the Lord said to my Lord, sit at the right hand until I make your enemies a footstool.
Now, preacher, I don't understand. David, our earthly king, is writing in his journal,
the Lord said to my Lord. Stop. That means David is writing about two people
who have deity, gosh.
He talks about one he calls the Lord
and the other one he says my Lord.
If I can show you this in Hebrew,
the first Lord is Yahweh.
The second Lord is Adonai. Two people who are deity, two distinct personalities. So he says, Yahweh says to Adonai,
sit at my right hand. And David called Adonai his Lord, like the Lord is my shepherd.
Gosh, come on.
So David writes that Yahweh says to Adonai, sit at my right hand, that whoever Adonai
was, was given the highest exalted position in all of creation.
Watch.
It's a preacher. I don't get it.
Okay. Let's go deeper. Yahweh, who is pictured as God the Father,
says to Adonai, who is indicated as God the Son, God the Father,
the first Lord, says to Adonai, the son, the second Lord, who is Christ,
sit at my right hand. The father tells the son, sit at my right hand until I make
your enemies your footstool. Gosh. This is God the Father saying to God the Son, you will be the highest exalted
person in all of creation and a day is coming where I'm gonna deal harshly with
every person that rejected you, every person that was an enemy of you, every
person that did not believe in you. I'm gonna make all your enemies your
footstool. That is every atheist, every false religion, every person that did not believe in you, I'm gonna make all your enemies your footstool.
That is every atheist, every false religion, every person that rejected Christ, every mocker,
every scoffer, a day is coming if they don't repent while they're breathing, they're gonna
be under Jesus' foot, watch, and permanent damnation.
This is God saying, don't worry, let them trash you now.
I'm gonna deal with all of them in the afterlife
Let them mock your identity now, I'm gonna deal with all of them in the afterlife let them reject your identity now
I'm gonna deal with all of them in the afterlife
So here is David everybody, calling the Messiah his Lord.
How could David call the Messiah his Lord and the Messiah be his son at the same time?
Here is David, watch, he's so powerful, having divine access to a cosmic conversation,
how could he have known that conversation was happening?
Jesus said, David wrote this in the Spirit.
Oh my God.
Which means the Holy Spirit has the power to reveal things to human beings that you
otherwise would not know on your own.
Your education won't give that to you.
Your church attendance won't give that to you.
Your reading books won't give that to you.
Your conference attendance won't give that to you.
The Holy Spirit has the
power to reveal things to humans that they otherwise would not know. This is
the beginning of the New Testament doctrine that all scripture was inspired
by God. And this is for all the people that argue, I don't believe in the Bible
because it was written by men. The Bible
is a collection of 66 ancient documents
written by over written by 40 human authors, 39 Jews, one non-Jew. They lived on three different
continents. They lived over a period of 1,500 years.
They spoke three different languages, Hebrew, Greek, and Aramaic.
Yet if you study these scriptures from Genesis to Revelation, you will see that there is a unity of thoughts from Genesis to Revelation.
That from Genesis to Revelation the whole thing reveals one person.
With accurate prophecies. This is for all the non-Christians, this is a mathematical impossibility.
Apart from the work of the Holy Spirit, I just want all that out to you for this one reason to remind you that you can trust everything
in here.
You can trust everything in here.
If God said it, he will do it.
He said he's a provider and he is.
He said he's a healer and he is. He said
he's a white maker and he is. He said he's a deliverer and he is. He said he
will fight for you and he does. If he said it, he'll do it.
Why?
Because he's not a man that he should lie.
Can't lie.
Hallelujah.
Hallelujah.
Hallelujah.
Hallelujah.
Hallelujah.
Hallelujah.
Hallelujah.
Hallelujah.
Hallelujah.
Hallelujah.
Hallelujah.
Hallelujah.
Hallelujah.
Hallelujah.
Hallelujah. Hallelujah. Hallelujah. Hallelujah. Hallelujah. I don't care what you read on Google.
I don't care what you got off the internet.
In the stillness of the night when your soul is being persecuted and weary, I put my tears
in this book.
When my marriage is in trouble, I put my tears in this book. When my marriage is in trouble, I put my face in this book.
When my kids are out of order, I put my face in this book.
When you need an answer, you can put your face in this book.
When you need clarity, you can put your face in this book.
From Genesis to Revelation, it can be trusted.
Can't say the same for the Quran. Can't say the same for the Pearl of Great Price.
Can't say the same for any religious text in the history of the world with accurate
prophecies. But this ever living, ever breathing, infallible, inherent, alive and active, sharper than any
two-edged sword, the Word of Almighty God.
Somebody give God praise for His Word.
The Word can be trusted. David knew that by the Spirit.
What is Jesus trying to prove to the Pharisees from the Scriptures?
That the Messiah was more than just a human being.
The Messiah was also God in the flesh. Matthew, is from the lineage
of King David.
So as a human, he is the Son of David.
Is why people shouted at Him, have mercy on us, Thou Son of David.
But as God, He is David's Lord.
Why?
Because the Messiah is both human and divine. He's both a son of David and the Lord of David. This was Jesus telling
these Pharisees for the last time, this is your last opportunity. I ain't arguing with you no more. Watch, I know my identity.
And when you know your identity, you ain't got to prove nothing to nobody.
They can mock you, talk bad about you, make false narratives about you, make
videos about you, write blogs about you, abandon you, leave identity, you have clarity, strength, confidence, got ten toes
down in the work God has called you to do.
Jesus ain't flinching an ounce.
The crowds hear this conversation.
The Pharisees hear this conversation. They hear his response and what is their response?
Verse 46, and no one was able to answer him a word, nor from that day did anyone dare
ask him. That's how you shut a ninja down.
Any more questions?
But the truth of God's Word ain't fighting you about nothing.
What does God's Word say?
Now hear me.
Listen to me carefully.
You know what was the problem with these Pharisees?
They had an inadequate view of the Christ.
You know what was the problem with these Pharisees? Hear me. They had a
false Christ in their heart. You know what's the problem with a lot of
Americans? You got an inadequate view of Christ. You just like these Pharisees. We
know you got an inadequate view because we got to beg you to worship. People got to
beg you to lift up your hands. We got to beg you to serve. Got to beg you to give.
Got to beg you to be generous. I know you got an inadequate view of the Christ
because you don't want to surrender. He is not Lord. He's only a song. He's only a
sermon. I know you got an inadequate view of Christ because here's what America does not have
for him.
Reverence, respect, homage.
Watch this word.
Fear and awe.
We ain't got no fear of God.
Us preachers, we ain't got no fear of God.
The American church, there's no fear of the Lord.
Why?
Because we got an inadequate view of Christ.
You're so familiar with Him.
You're so familiar with Him.
You're so familiar with Him.
You're so familiar with Him.
You're so familiar with Him.
You're so familiar with Him.
You're so familiar with Him. You're so familiar with Him. You're so Lord Why because we got an inadequate view of Christ. You're so familiar with him. There's no reverence
There's no fear you come into gathers like this. You stand like zombies. You don't worship
You don't sing you don't lift up a hand you don't kneel down. You don't give him homage. You're not generous
You don't serve you're not involved in the gospel. Why? You got an inadequate view of Christ. You think you're
not gonna have to deal with him in the afterlife. You're bored with him because
you have an inadequate view, not even knowing that he's everything that you
need. You think you need Jesus plus a house, Jesus plus whatever. No, you will never be fully satisfied
with anything outside of Christ. No, I know personally you'll get the new house and be
bored with it. You'll get the new car and you'll be bored with it. You'll get the new boyfriend
and be bored with him. There is nothing that's gonna satisfy you
like a deep intimate relationship with Christ.
Yeah!
Yeah!
Yeah!
Yeah!
Yeah!
Yeah!
Yeah!
Yeah!
Yeah!
Yeah!
Yeah!
Yeah!
Yeah!
Yeah!
And there's too many of us,
I'm telling you right now what I know about the Spirit,
there's too many of us I'm telling you right now what I know about the spirit There's too many of us under the sound of my voice got an
Inadequate view of Christ. He's too low in your mind
That's why you come into gatherings and you stand like this
You want the worship team to be a cheerleading team?
Why don't you worship him? You know why you don't worship him? You got an inadequate view
You think he's that baby in a manger? No, he's the one that was raised from the dead. He's the one that John saw when he fell on his feet like a dead man.
He's the one that's seated at the right hand of God the Father.
No, let me talk heavy for just a second. For everybody that think he's the baby in a manger, no.
He's the one that got eyes like fire.
that think he's the baby in the manger? No, he's the one that got eyes like fire and who's wearing a robe that's been dipped in blood, who got a tattoo on his
thigh that says King of Kings and the Lord of Lords. He's the one who the
scripture says is coming back not for peace but to make war.
not for peace but to make war. He's the one that died on a cross for your sins, the ones you couldn't pay for with your own righteousness. That's not enough to
stand before God in judgment. You know what else the Pharisees had? A false
Christ. They was believing in a false Messiah,
just like some of you undersounded my voice. I don't care if you're mad, you're believing
in a false Christ. Your Christ can't confront you. Your Christ can't tell you about your
sin. Your Christ is only love and grace. Your Christ don't tell you to forgive. Your Christ
don't tell you to be generous. Your Christ don't tell you to worship. Your Christ don't tell you to be generous. Your Christ don't tell you to worship. Your Christ don't tell you to sacrifice.
Your Christ don't tell you, pick up your cross and follow me.
Your Christ keeps you comfortable in sin.
Your Christ doesn't bother you.
Your Christ lets you keep your preferences.
Your Christ doesn't challenge you.
Your Christ does not exist.
Your Christ is gonna send you to hell. He's that fake Christ you've been holding on since VBS that does not exist. But the Christ I preach is the one who's on the pages of every text, the one who died
for you, the one who loves you, the one who paid the price for you, the one who's covering
you, the one who put his blood on you, the one who gave you his righteousness when he
died on the cross, the one who's coming back. The one that wrote your name in the Lamb's Book of Life.
The one that got you engraved on the palm of his hand.
Watch.
The one that you should be completely surrendered to.
The one you should be living for but reckless abandon.
The one that you say, Lord, your will and
not mine's. The one you say with the rest of your life, Lord, your will be done, not
mine's. The one you come back in here next week and go crazy in worship and stop acting like a zombie in his presence. That Christ, the one who went to prepare a
place for you, that where he is you will be also. The one that's going to deliver you
from that body of sin. Thank you. Thank you. So, Father, in the name of the Holy One, I pray over every son and daughter that you would awaken them to the grandeur, the holiness,
the magnificence, the majestic nature of the Christ of the Scriptures.
I pray for that Christ they would give their life.
For that Christ they would serve.
For that Christ they would be generous.
For that Christ they would pray.
For that Christ they would partner for the spread of the gospel.
For that Christ they would labor.
For that Christ they would shed tears.
For that Christ they would put all of their heart on the altar.
And Father God, I pray for those who have trusted in a false Christ, that right now
they would push off that idol.
They would hurl themselves on the altar.
They would say right now in their seat, right now across that camera, Lord, I surrender.
Forgive me for my sins.
They would put their faith in the Christ of the Scriptures and that their life would be
radically transformed in this moment.
And Father God, I pray that there would be a fresh fire,, a fresh wind holy, and a fresh oil would
fall on the sons and daughters of the Most High in 2019 across this nation and Raise our view of Christ, our reverence, our homage, our respect.
I pray that over them in the mighty and the majestic and the matchless name of our Lord
and Savior Jesus Christ.
If you receive that Christ, let's try this
again. Put your hands together for that Christ.
