Actions Detrimental with Denny Hamlin - Denny Tried To Warn Everyone
Episode Date: May 11, 2026Fuel saving, cut line conversations, and Shane van Gisbergen putting on another road course masterclass. This week on Action Detrimental, the guys break down Ross Chastain running out of gas late, why... Watkins Glen was still a solid points day, and how frustrating it can be to save fuel instead of driving all out. Plus, they dive into NASCAR’s road course coverage issues and why fans at home are missing too much of the action during some of the biggest moments of the race. They also debate whether a road course belongs in the playoffs, if anyone can eventually challenge SVG on these tracks, and why Connor Zilisch might be the next guy up. Add in the Ryan Preece penalty controversy, Kaden Honeycutt’s first Truck Series win, and a look ahead to All-Star Weekend, and there is plenty to unpack in this one. Let us know in the comments if you think NASCAR should keep a road course in the playoffs! Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. The best was the replay of it all happening.
It's like a 45-second replay.
It starts.
The tent's blowing.
And then 30 seconds later,
it eventually winds up on the track.
But they show it from the whole thing.
Yeah, the whole thing.
So he knew it was grooving.
Brewing.
Yeah, yeah, from campground in the sky for 20 seconds.
And then eventually onto the track.
The following is a production of Dirtymo Media.
I believe that I've been a competitive for 20 years.
opinions from tonight's podcast
strictly biased
you're going to hear from my point of view
I'm a fighter
no you are not
the spoils of victory for Jared Allen
he's got better luck
the drink and drink to win
I know you do
two trophies missing from your collection
championship and the most popular driver
someone told me that their drinking game
is when I say for sure
yeah and I've already said
hey guys welcome to action
it's detrimental
after Watkins Glen
SVG dominates again.
Shocker.
It was not as straightforward as it was supposed to be,
but the end result was nonetheless the same.
Yeah, and it's funny as the broadcast is doing what they have to do
to make it seem like he may not get there.
I went on Fandle to see what the odds were,
and I forget where he was back,
and it was still like minus 420 for him to win.
Like, it was basically an all, you know, foregun.
conclusion. Oh, during that whole time that the broadcast was like, I don't know if he's going to get there.
Yeah. Vegas was like, and I don't know if that's partially as they don't want to take a massive loss,
but also like they probably have people that are running numbers and who knows the algorithms that Vegas has to,
you know, predict these things. Right. I mean, it was a, it was a great drive. By the way,
getting lost in all the shuffle is Michael McDowell had the same drive.
Mm-hmm.
Yeah, and it didn't look nearly as promising for him at one point in the race.
You just have, like, less confidence that they're going to...
Well, their strategy failed at one point.
Yeah, yeah.
Yeah, it's just...
When they decided to stay out in that third stage,
you clearly knew, okay, they're not going to do a one-stop,
or they're not going to try to stretch it on fuel.
they're going to try to do this in one stop
they're going to try to stretch a lead as big as they can
in the short run
pit and then have fresher tires
going up against cars that are saving fuel
which you know you drop
you know a second or two while you're saving fuel at that racetrack
so the disparity of speed is going to be quite large
but nonetheless still
great win I don't think any
SVG McDonald's
Gibbs, Briscoe, Reddick, top five.
Sounds like status quo.
I mean, it was the best run Briscoe's had.
He ran out in the last two corners,
but still had enough to make it.
Reddick's probably a little down on himself
because they were second.
They stayed out with SVG and then I think he had some issues
with this tire or whatever,
and he pitted before SVG did.
Yeah, I know that all I know is that when SVG went by me,
It was another six, seven laps, which is like many, many seconds before the 45 got to us.
So, yeah, it, I don't know, you want to just play the tape from a long time ago.
I said, you know, unless races get wonky and this is, this is what we're going to have for a little while.
So, you know, Reddick was able to beat him at Cota,
but Reddick had that track position,
and you can see SVG kind of pushing to make moves on them,
but just not track position, track position.
Which, man, this race, I don't know.
It just, once we single file out, it's just the past,
there's just not much basing.
There's not much.
Everyone runs like,
whoever's the closest towards the front runs a little faster
than the guy behind,
and then a little faster.
And it's just, we're all just in a train and you can't go anywhere.
The wake behind the cars is just tough.
And yeah, just, it's an execution.
It's a qualifying and execution race.
That's what it is.
So are you really happy with your day then if you're someone like Austin Dillon who started
25th and finished 6th?
Like how do you go from 25th to 6th with it being an execution and qualifying race?
Right.
So what happens is he gets probably one or two spots on the shuffle on the restarts.
I think he got by that Byron incident and then he flipped twice.
So that's how you end up gaining the positions that.
So anybody that likely stayed out to get stage points finished behind him.
So you just keep gaining those 10 spots of whoever stayed.
and next Ceno, that's where you're at.
And, I mean, I guess this comes with finishing six in the race.
But, I mean, it's a good drive nonetheless.
Like, he still had to hold his position.
He's still running competitive lap times, you know, good overall for RCR in general.
So I think, you know, that is what it is.
I think it's, I think it's not just luck and you got around cars that pitted and decided to take stage points.
It's, but that's mostly where the passing will come from.
Speaking of stage points, I'm now just scrolling through the results here to see if there's any outliers of guys that stay out to collect stage points.
Ross Chastain scored 20 points in this race, but finished 27.
So he stayed out, got stage points, and then, you know, finished 10 spots worse than some guys here in the top 15 but scored the same amount of points.
Now, just remember, the second stage played out normally.
So there wasn't any flipping.
so there would be stage point guys that finished well
because it didn't end under green.
Does that make any sense?
It ended under caution.
So we, yeah, we, you know, wherever you were running,
you didn't have to flip it at the end of the second stage.
And Ross ran out of gas right at the end.
Yeah, he was saving a lot.
I don't know what happened, but when I went by him,
he was having to save a ton.
Yeah, I remember,
Gail telling you that like the one is worse than you, like you're going to be fine.
Yeah.
A lot of that comes from, it could be several different things.
It's how full do you put your car to start the race?
How full, you know, I guess you would have to have full.
How much fuel are you putting in it every time you stop during the stages and whatnot?
Do you wait on fuel or not?
Like just all those little things add up.
And if you, you know, Steve Lutchevillard says really,
really well that eventually if you short short short short short and i'm not saying that's what they did
but that's how you can be short is that eventually at the end you're going to have to pay the piper
and you're either going to have to stay long in your pit stall or you're going to be short on fuel
is that why you had lost a few spots down the stretch there no no yes and no um yes i was having to
save fuel so i was running a second slower than what ideally i could run but then i got passed by all
that eventually took the pit stop.
So right at the very end,
I don't know,
we probably lost five or six spots
in the last three laps somewhere in that ring,
because it was the cars that were coming
on new tires that had pitted and all.
And so at that point,
what would be horrible is running out of gas,
running out of gas.
So whether you finish 12th,
you go for 12th,
and then potentially run out of gas
or finish where we're 16th
and know you can make it
it's just the risk for it's not worth it.
Did you ever go 100% after that pit stop?
A few laps.
Yeah, a few laps after we went green,
you know, to fight on restarts.
Yeah.
But after that, he said back it down,
save when you can.
How frustrating is that as a race car driver?
Just like, I'm sitting here like just trying to save and not go.
Well, the most painful time I had saving fuel was at Indy last year, like the whole damn race.
And it was like, remember Kyle Larson goes through the field?
Well, he didn't have to save fuel.
And he was racing everyone that was saving fuel.
And it's just, gosh, it's so painful to have to, you know, to not be able to go as hard as you want to go.
I mean, still a pretty great day for the 11 team.
All things consider.
It's not a great day.
It's not a great day.
Thank you.
Not a great day.
Thank you.
We argued this before we started the show.
Not a great day.
I mean, you gain points on everyone below you for the most part.
Everyone that matters below you.
You were eight points ahead of-
Blaney had 34.
You were eight points ahead of Chase.
I mean, you gained on Chase.
Yeah, I mean, yeah, that's, I guess that's a positive, yeah.
You're still in second.
Sure.
Top 10 would have been a great day, right?
Yes.
Thank you.
Yes.
Which was in our grass, not in our grass, but like right there kind of.
You were what?
Like 13th when the caution came out?
I felt like our pace was good.
I thought that second stage you were actually starting to like...
We were good.
We were good.
It's just, yeah, at the end it's like, I think I restarted stage three and 19, no, 21st.
Remember, because of the cars that stayed out, the SVGs, the guys that says,
all right, we're going to go ahead and pit one more time.
So we're just going to stay out, get the track position, then pit, then run through the field.
You know, eventually I got caught by all those guys, and I had to restart 21st.
So, again, the field spread got me.
But no, overall, like, performance-wise, I feel like I was competitive, right there with
you know like where was the eight i was right around him most of the day he finished eighth i can tell you
i was right around the same three to four cars all f f***a which that's what i'm talking about it's
like the whole you can't pass thing is like holy cow it was the same three cars that i saw
in front and behind me all day long it just it's a matter of where you shuffle and a few restarts
i had your uh your camera on one of my TVs and the HBO one and it was
customer for a while and then it was Kyle
Bush that you were just like going at your
behind the entire day.
Yeah.
Yeah, I don't
I don't know.
The race was kind of,
kind of,
the first three quarters of it.
I mean, what made it interesting is just the
timing of that Legano tire
caution. That was it.
And that's, I think
that when
the series or,
the fans fell in love with road courses back in the day.
It was because we kept having a green-white checkers.
So they loved the chaos of the endings,
and that's what skewed your thinking.
Like the Roval, for instance,
the whole Martin Truex Jimmy Johnson finished
that in the final corner when they,
and Ryan Blaney won,
that race was a stinker until that incident.
Like it just, they're not, the thing I don't love about Roe courses and like watching Roe
courses is as a fan, I can only see one tenth of the track at one time.
Yeah, and it's really difficult to follow all the storylines because TV can't naturally follow
all the storylines and get all the camera shots.
And I mean, I think maybe I'm just giving them, you know, an out.
But it just seems really difficult to follow it all.
Yeah, I mean, they didn't follow a few rest.
that happened. That was for sure.
Jesus.
But NASCAR has to get better with that.
Like, I've seen their control center
at their production studio.
There's absolutely no excuse
to not, you know,
you have cameras pointing in every direction
of this racetrack. For you not
to see Cody wear
destroyed in that final corner,
holy cow, man.
That's, they need
to say something about that. Not just
we'll look at it.
we'll we're always looking to improve like we're you know that's that's old old news take some
accountability on this one this is not acceptable is tv going as nascar goes or are the two parties
working independently could could could have tv have shown that cody wear wreck and then we see like
oh they didn't throw caution for that like that's that's not a good look are they kind of
showing both of them it's on both of them but like director or something
somewhere in Fox's production studio that's looking at all the cameras and there's...
But are they working independently from NASCAR?
Like, oh, I don't care if...
I don't know.
I'm not sure.
They should be, though.
Like, yeah, no, NASCAR has, like, these monitors,
and they have cameras pointing pretty much at every...
It should be every corner.
I know, you know, I've seen it on ovals.
they got every corner at every angle kind of
because they just don't have the track workers that they used to have.
You know, they've cut, cut, cut, cut, cut, cut.
And so there's these 16 monitors.
It could be 24.
I don't thirst, it's a lot.
It's a lot of monitors looking at the racetrack
from all these different things,
to see things that necessarily are not being shown on TV.
somewhere there has to be multiple it can't be one person i'm sorry you can't look at 24 monitors
at one time there's to be multiple people looking for dramatic events that's going on that could be
a hazard call it in and then it's got to call to the next guy and then to the next guy but
you can't just like oh we didn't we didn't see that um no that's twice because he was sitting
You see the cars that we're going by him?
Was that the wreck, Travis, where I had texted in the group chat?
Kevin had to call.
He's like, oh, there's going to be a caution here momentarily.
And then there wasn't a caution.
I don't think it was because that was like right the end.
I think it was another spin out where they, I forget who it was.
There was a couple where they didn't really.
But there's 10 to go with Cody Ware.
No.
No.
Cody was at like the last lap.
That was in.
What's this broadcast footage, nine?
nine to go.
Josh Berry was the last lap too, right?
Him and Carson.
Yeah.
That's, I think they, him and Carson.
Maybe it was because there's a.
Cody Ware was at the end.
No, I think Cody Ware was 10 to go.
Holy shit.
Ten to go.
Are you serious?
I'm just sworn this was the same moment.
There's this video.
Kevin commented on TV.
He's like, oh, there's about to be a caution.
And then there was no caution.
And I texted the Denny goes out.
I don't think so.
I'm seeing a video here.
and it says nine to go.
And cars are driving by.
I'm it's a short video.
I wish the video was longer, but.
Wow.
Wow.
All right.
I don't know.
I'm sure Mike Ford will come up with some statement on it.
If I'm Rick,
where racing,
I'm madly.
When did Redick pass you?
How many laps to go?
I don't know.
I'm not sure.
10.
I don't know.
I'm making up a number.
I'm telling you.
I think that's the moment,
Travis.
I think that was when Harvick.
I think you're right.
There's about to be a caution, and then there wasn't a caution.
And then I was like, classic TV saying something's about to happen and the opposite happens.
I saw that in the group text.
Yeah, I'm pretty sure that was the moment, the Cody Ware incident.
I just sent you the video.
But yeah, think about this.
Cody Ware last year, crazy wreck.
They don't.
If I could give Cody Ware one piece of advice is inside to go find a way.
to get this thing to the finish.
I'm not saying this is his fault at all.
I just, but it's a theme that it's like,
find a way to bring this thing home in a careful manner.
Damn.
Hey, everybody, it's Dellenhart Jr.,
and there is no better way to support Denny Hamlin
than wearing actions detrimental gear at the racetrack.
You can also flip him the bird,
or head on over to shotguns,
Dot dirty mode media.com to see what we have.
What else do you want to talk about?
It's just a tent blow on the track?
Yeah.
Caught that.
When they said caution for debris,
I thought it was going to be like phantom debris.
No, it was actually quite the opposite.
It was a big old tent.
The best was the replay of it all happening.
It's like a 45 second replay.
It starts.
The tent's blowing.
And then 30 seconds later,
it eventually winds up on the track.
But they show it.
They did a job showing that.
The whole thing.
Yeah, the whole thing.
So he knew it was grooving.
Brewing. Yeah, yeah, from campground in the sky for 20 seconds and then eventually onto the track.
You can see that, but if you want to see Bubba getting spun out, you can't see that. You just see the aftermath.
So is this a next-gen problem? Yeah. Or is it bigger? Is it an SVG problem?
No, it's next-gen because if you look at position changes in Walkins Glen races from, I don't know, years past to now it's far more static.
in passing now than it was back then.
And it changed in the next gen era.
I think it's the number two track position,
most sensitive track position racetrack,
just because of the speeds and whatnot.
You know, air dynamics play a factor,
and it's...
So then how do you feel about...
It's one lane.
So those are all the things
the next gen does not want.
How do you feel about this race
now being moved to the chase next year?
Well, I mean, it's a knee-jerk reaction.
to, you know, appease, you know, they knew that they were likely going to get some flack
for this weekend. I actually thought the crowd was okay. I did. I thought that the fans that
were there were very enthusiastic. I didn't notice a, I didn't notice a big difference in the
midway of fans. It was some, but not like a huge difference. Whether on Sunday was,
It was okay. It was rainy. It could be rainy in September too, by the way, folks.
We could have a slop fest in September.
Yeah, it was cold on Friday and Saturday. But, you know, I didn't think it, you know,
does it need to be this early in May? No. Could it be summer? Sure. Sure. And it should be.
But I think it was a, you know, they were trying to get ahead of it. And, you know, I know, I know that
there were some team owners that felt like, well, we got to have a road course in the chase
to crown the champion. That's a fair way to do it.
What would be the best road course to put in the chase? Would it be this one?
I don't know. I don't know. Just not the roble. Just not the roble.
If you wanted a road course that had the least amount of chaos.
It's going to be this one.
yeah but is is it the right is it the right move though now like right is there any there's
we can count on two hands tracks that would put on a better race in the playoffs right right but
or do you need a road course in the playoffs does that outweigh the track that puts on a better
race, the need for a road course in the playoffs.
Well, what do you, what do you think is more important then?
It's, well, if NASCAR is trying to be this, our drivers are the most diverse skill set,
then okay, is that what they're doing?
I don't know, I'm just putting it out there.
Then the validity of needing a road course in the playoffs is a fair point.
How many road course street courses do we have this year?
Four?
Four. And now you're going to say that one of, so four out of the ratio.
is right, Travis.
The ratio is right.
Is it?
To one out of every, you know, if you have 10 races,
one of them is a road course.
Yes, the ratio works.
Okay.
I tell you what,
the executive slash car owner that advocated for this,
they did not have a good day yesterday.
Not at all.
Historically bad day.
But, you know, I think,
I think that it is what it is.
he's just going to have to,
we're just going to have to know that we got one of our chase races.
It's going to be a stinker.
That's my thing.
It's going to be a stinker.
You're telling your fans,
hey,
one of the 10 races is this is what we're going to get in the chase.
Like that just,
it doesn't seem smart to me.
I mean,
they can spice it up with a few timely cautions.
Listen,
this thing goes to a green white checker,
multiple green white checkers,
chaos.
Someone gets wrecked,
knocked into the barrels.
Oh my gosh,
the implications of the chase.
Next thing you know,
this thing.
gets like a 78 80 rating from the fans.
So maybe we're just living too much in the moment.
But I think some of the road courses have been pretty low here lately.
Yeah, I feel like the quality of the race is going to be whatever.
But it's also, we're not in the playoffs anymore.
I'm just, listen, as a fan when I'm watching.
Your best races are ovals.
Because I can, when they're at least showing a battle,
I can still see five cars behind,
few cars in front.
So whoever I'm following or watching
or paying attention to in that moment,
like it's more,
it's likely they're in the shot
where we get so strung out
on this two and a half mile racetrack
and you can only watch one corner at one time.
It's just, it's not,
it's just not a great viewing experience
on TV.
To me, to me it isn't.
But that's,
I like different things than other people.
Those that tune in, watch EMSA races each and every weekend.
These are the four weekends they love.
So I don't know.
I just feel like I'm a NASCAR fan in general.
I watch the Friday and Saturday races 90% of the time, maybe more.
And it's just one of those races where I can watch.
it through timing and scoring. I'm not going to get any added value watching it on TV.
I just look at the numbers and everyone just kind of stays where they're at. I just see if
someone can pop off a fast lap time, but passing is just not there and you're not getting side-by-side
battles. That's what NASCAR is, is side-by-side. It just is not. And the SVG is not making it better for
anyone. He isn't. And that's a us problem, not a him problem. It's, you know, he's just far and
away better than everyone else. Do you think these young drivers who are still learning and can still
mold their style differently will eventually catch SVG, like a Zillich or Ty Gibbs?
Well, I think that SVG will get older. He's, he's in his upper 30s now. Zillich with more time
in this car. You could see him challenging. I think he'll be the quickest to challenge him in the short term. Reddick is right there. Like, it's like 2A, 2B.
You know, yes, Reddick won Cota, but like if you had paid attention to that Cota race, yes, Zillich was like extremely fast. He was a challenger, just had,
some unfortunate things happen. But I see Zilich is kind of the next one that would be able to
challenge him, but I still think that's a few years away. On a regular basis, right. I should say.
But it's true that SVG just has a different, different style, different footwork, right? That's not
necessarily copyable without having the ability to do that. Well, it's the way that all Rosemary
road course drivers used not all but most back when I was running um uh won that Mexico
City race I was heel towing back then and then what happened why they changed transmissions
when they changed transmissions to where you don't have to do that it was just like oh what
I don't need that extra movement okay so I how I got taught to road course race was the way
SVG is doing it now.
And then a different car
forced different skill set.
Yeah, it just, I forget when it was,
but there was just like a transmission change.
I forget the name of it.
But that was the moment where it was like,
oh, all you need to do is lift and it'll
pop itself out of gear and into gear.
Great.
Let's just do that.
And so do I wish I would have stuck with that?
But yeah, but it's, I don't know.
It's just that's what he's done his whole life.
So it's going to be really hard.
I just don't think, I don't see anyone coming up the ranks that are volunteering to learn that style and stick with it.
I just don't see that.
But why couldn't like Connor do that?
He's also got more information on what SVG is doing than anybody.
I think Connor can challenge him.
regardless of that.
But wouldn't you,
if you can challenge him without that,
and this is something that might close the gap
at his age being so young,
why wouldn't you try?
Because I think that he believes,
and he's probably right,
that he'll be able to challenge him
shortly anyway,
the way he is doing it.
For what it's worth,
he ran the fastest lap of the race yesterday.
I think he was just a little,
too aggressive at the end there.
Like, I think lack of experience might have heard him.
Well, he was smoking tires every corner.
I was behind him enough behind him to where I could at least see him, you know,
five, six cars up at times.
And there was always smoke coming out of his car, most entering most corners.
So that just means he's trail breaking and they've got really light load on the front
tires.
And so eventually it just, I guess it just blew the tire.
Do you think by the end of the season, SVG, you know, breaks the, I guess he could tie it, right?
The all-time road course wins.
Of course.
Well, we got two left.
Two left.
I mean, it's not a, listen, it's not a guarantee, but it's the large likelihood of that.
We know he's going to win San Diego.
A new course that no one's been on.
Come on.
Give him the win now.
It's very likely.
Very likely.
and are they
I can't remember
are they letting
Cup drivers run
the other series?
I don't think so
I hope not
because that is such a huge advantage
I hope not
I agree
like I thought
hell this past weekend
if you're going to change
the track in any way
that you shouldn't be allowed
to go down
like I get that the tire packs
aren't like a big difference
not like a new course
but it's still
yeah I don't think that's a big deal
I mean, all it is keep us on the racetrack
where we're supposed to be racing anyway.
I thought the tire packs were good.
Oh, yeah, I mean, you guys handled it fine.
Yeah.
That did put SVG inside the cut line.
Remember, he was, gosh, what did we say last week?
He was minus looking for the sheet.
I didn't even put his number down.
Wasn't it like 30 something around 30?
Yeah, yeah.
He was like 20 something.
And now he's inside by six.
big jump this is what he needed
68 point day
is a near perfect day
this is how he's going to make the playoffs
he has to on every road course he has to do this
yeah i mean he's he's in by six over briscoe right
but then 18th legano had an awful day
and he's in by 39 over him
they are leaking oil holy cow
right
did they just have a mechanical issue
i i know they had a tire
right?
But he wasn't like he was crushing
beforehand.
Yeah, I don't know.
I thought he qualified okay, right?
They did.
All the Penskegee cars qualified well.
I mean,
I think only one or two
of those 30 finishes
were warranted
because of actual performance.
But no,
they can't have,
they're not running good enough
to be doing this.
You know, having other issues,
you know, that are making them finish poorly.
So,
Ligano 18th.
That is a surprise.
Do you think that Joey breaks into this top 16?
I think he's got enough dog in him.
I do.
I do.
I think that, you know,
it wouldn't be a big surprise.
Would it be out of character?
Yes, but not a big surprise for him to go
and qualify inside the top four
at a track a few weeks from now
get about a 55 point day
and next thing you know he's right
right back there right where he was
so I think they're capable
obviously they're capable
you know Blaine these up in the top
three or four in points
they just they've they've had poor finishes
and poor luck to go with it
and that's why they're at where
they're at.
Now again, we're 12 races in.
It's still the sample size is quite big enough to where you still, you know, as a
champ shouldn't be that far down the list.
But there's a lot of guys that are, you know, Byron, Bell, Larson.
And these guys are all five, six spots out of their normal positioning at this time of
the year.
It's nice that you see a DNF or if you have to go the DVP, like,
you're being punished now and it's not just, you know,
all you're worried about the wins.
Like the top three drivers have finished every race.
Yeah, and just the,
it's just the win in the year and just changes everything, right?
Like you're not playing your cards for that,
you know, trying to hit that one hand, right?
You're, this is a, this is a long, grinded out tournament.
And I still think that they're good enough.
the team is good enough, he's good enough
that, you know,
who's he going to pick off?
I don't know.
Your guess is as good as mine.
SVG.
I got to think that Briscoe is just good enough everywhere.
Surely he can beat his teammate Cindrick.
He should.
That's what I'm saying.
He should.
He should be able to beat Suarez.
To me, this is a battle of
Suarez, Cindrick, and SVG
for maybe this final two spot.
15, 16.
Yeah, Priest seems to, I think, pending what happens with priests here, but he's just, like,
the DNA of the RFK drivers are all the same.
They grind it out and they'll get you that fringe top 10 every week.
You know what I mean?
They're just, that's, that's priests.
And I think he's solid enough that he'll be a tough one to,
overcome in the long run, just simple because you're not going to get many stinker weekends
out of Ryan Priest. Is his point deduction factored in here to the standings that we're looking at?
It is, right? Yeah. So 296 is including that minus 25. Yeah, because he was 12. I show he's
minus 271. Yeah, with 296 points. Oh yeah, I'm not looking at his points. I'm looking at his minus
to the leader. Yeah, he only, you know, he's, you know, he's,
less than 20 from the cut.
So it's, that's, it's getting interesting.
Don't forget, right below Lugano is Chastain, right?
Mm-hmm.
You're also in 19th.
That's another dog that's got some alligator blood.
I just, I just think that these, these guys, they still got another run in them.
I believe it.
I do believe it.
But we'll see.
Clip that, Travis.
Denny Hamlin says Joy Lagon on Ross Chesting, got that dog in him.
Well, I mean, I just...
There are ones that you don't want to be battling for a spot with.
Yeah.
Like, if you're Swar's Sindrick SVG, it's like, yeah, those are not guys that I would feel confident that, you know, going head to head, like on a restart, like that you're...
that you're going to get the best of them.
They're the hardest,
they're probably the best at blocking you,
so you don't want to have to be trying to pass them.
Yeah.
But I think they're going to be,
I think they have the potential
to have really high point days.
I do like having some of these names down at the bottom
because hopefully,
um,
when these races coming down to the end of the regular season,
the broadcast is going to be showcasing.
A battle for 12th is very important.
Like there's some different storylines than just at the top.
Yep.
What would have been sick is if the cut line?
was 12th.
I mean, that's, I mean, that's something to really talk about.
But it's all going to be good.
I think we're in for a great battle to the chase in the next 13 weeks.
What's your take on Ryan pre-skating penalized?
It was surprising to me.
I mean, it just was surprising.
I saw Dale Jr. posted on Dirty Moe Overdrive, and I agreed, like, with everything that he said, just on it that I thought they got it. I thought they got most everything wrong on their calls. I just, you're, people think to, oh, well, you have the appeals and stuff. And we, we did a podcast after our appeal.
that it's not a fair fight guys it's it's not broadcasted for a reason like i think he has a legit shot
of getting it overturned just based off of facts and evidence but like it's interesting that
they're now using SMT as a comp for evidence when i brought it up they said oh SMT is a very
non-scientific way of looking at things we don't put a lot of
of faith in that. And like you can't rebut anything. So they can just say, just so you know, on their
side, when they start giving their explanation to this independent panel, there is no, I object.
That's not true. You can't say that. You just have to sit there and let them say whatever they
want to say. It's not a, it's, the process is not a fair fight.
for the ones that are appealing.
Is it a different panel each time?
Do they have to follow precedent or if it's a different panel,
can they just rule how they feel?
No, I think after NASCAR got quite a few of these things overturned,
they changed the rule to where the panel can't come up with their own penalty.
No, no, no, no, no.
I know that they can't, like, priests got the lowest level,
so like it's either it gets removed.
But what I'm saying, though, is could he bring up a previous thing and say,
you didn't punish this driver.
Like in the court of law,
there's precedent that, like,
can help you.
Like, does that matter with this panel?
Because it's different people.
Or do you just not know?
That could be fair.
I'm trying to think we,
I'm trying to think if we use comps or not.
I think we did.
But the,
the,
I don't know.
I won't speak anything.
There's a reason that the fans
in media will never see.
what an appeals.
Well, let me ask you this then.
As a driver, does it make you worried, concern that audio used during a race when you're
fresher to ever, like, because it used to be in the heat of battle.
We say that all the time.
We say, when I get back to him, he's going to get it.
We say that shit all the time.
I mean, all the time, right?
I mean, I don't say it that often, but no, no.
But, yes, drivers say it all the time.
But he said, I'm done with him.
Yeah.
Can mean anything.
Yeah.
Regardless to that, that was the one, I was shocking, you know, but is what it is.
But then the Bush one was like, I didn't understand it.
But I don't know.
Well, that one, they heard them in their explanation that, well, you know, after he got the damage, he was having to turn left to,
to go straight.
SMT data.
It was SMT.
So now it is a reliable source now.
They changed their minds.
Mind changers.
And then they said they're going to talk with them
because they gave them the benefit of the doubt
with Herps and now this.
At what point then do you just penalize somebody?
Yeah, I don't know.
I just,
I would rather them just not penalized anyone
and just this has not been a story.
Agree.
Overall.
I think that would have been in the best interest of the sport.
I thought that would have helped.
The things were going positive,
and I felt like this just was a step backwards for the fans in the sport.
Yep, I agree.
Anything else from the cup race here that you noticed?
A tire wear, by that matter?
Overnight, magic.
Sun comes out.
Track temp goes up, fall off goes down.
Just, you know, we had doubled the tire wear.
roughly on Saturday.
So cooler temps,
overcast conditions,
had quite a bit of tire wear.
And now just once you get all the cars out there,
it just does not wear quite as much.
So it wasn't nearly as factor as track position.
That was the number one thing is put your car up front
with the best track position, qualify well,
and unless you're a bonehead,
you're going to get a good finish.
Connor Zilich.
wins the Xfinity race in the final corner.
Did you see this one?
I did.
Very deja vu, right?
I guess it was Sheldon Creed that was driving the two before, before when they blew the final corner.
You know, it's easy to me to empathize with Jesse Love, but it also, I don't know.
It wasn't a race that you dominated.
It wasn't a race you were the best car.
You were there because the team had great strategy.
And yeah, I guess it plays a factor because it was Connor, too.
I don't know.
It's hard for me to put myself in that position because I don't think I've had that position
where that thing happened before where it was like a battling,
a really close friend and, you know, I'm sure they're trash talking each other all the time and
this is his moment he's going to get one up on him and then he doesn't. But at that point,
you just, you got to put him to a decision. You're either going to have to wreck me to get around
me, but I'm hitting this corner. I'm making sure I'm going to run it. Now, I did the same thing
with Tony Stewart at Sonoma.
That was Tony's last win.
I missed the final corner, really, really bad.
Now, it was because I moved him out of the way
three or four corners before,
and I knew Tony very well.
And I said, if he is within wide open throttle distance of me,
he's going to get me.
So I just, I drove in there thinking,
I have to drive in super deep to keep from getting wrecked.
But it still, it was very similar.
Like, I did the same thing.
I blew the final corner and lost the race, finished second.
But I don't recall having the emotion that like Jesse have.
But I wasn't best buddies with Tony at the time either.
So it's just, the circumstances are a little different, but it's very, it's, listen,
the touchy, that last corner at Watkins Glen.
when you have somebody right on you,
you have a decision to make.
Slow down, hit the apex correctly,
or drive it in,
worried that they're going to run into the back of you,
and it appeared he was going to make sure
that the one didn't run in the back of him.
And in a given race of the one.
But the one was the best car.
Jesse still got a really good finish out of it.
As he said, the next morning,
the sun did come up.
That run that Zillich got through the bus stop
was pretty wild, though.
How far back he was going into the bus stop
and coming out of it?
He was charging corners, yeah, just crazy.
I mean, how about he ripped the splitter off
and still got there?
That was wild.
Wild.
And I mean, how lucky was he?
The splitter then came out the wheel well
of the other side of the race car.
So that thing went through the underside of the car
apparently around the engine compartment and the splitter came out through the left front
wheel opening and turn one a few laps later. Just wild circumstances.
Caden Honeycutt got his first truck series win on Friday. Yeah, really happy for Caden. He's
part of the Toyota racing team now and just doing a great job in that 11 truck. And obviously
Scott Zipadel. He's a big part of that success of that truck. But Caden's doing a great job. I mean,
he's he's a kid that i first got exposed to him watching those uh coca cola series races uh the e racing um
on i racing uh so that's where i first saw him uh racing and he was he was really good then too
and it translated over to real life racing so he's got it opportunity now he's in a really good
truck uh this is the first of likely many wins for him uh this season so
I think, you know, we could see someone that eventually moves out the ladder.
Can you believe we're headed into All-Star weekend at Dover?
I'm jacked.
Just pumped.
No, yeah, it's, I don't know, Dover.
It'd be interesting.
It's a different aerodynamic package, but Dover is another track position.
track position. Like it needs the track to rubber in. It needs it to widen out for for there
really to be a lot of passing. But you never know. All it takes is a timely caution here and there and
you could have yourself an exciting race. Would it help if you truly only had just the winners or
like so you're less cars on the track? Yeah. I mean we already went through this but obviously I'm not a
fan of the all inclusive. No, but forget the format. But I'm saying like,
Would the race me better, though, if it was less drivers?
I don't think so, not at that racetrack.
Okay.
No.
You know what would be interesting, though?
I'm thinking about where could you, what would make less drivers more exciting?
I actually think on Super Speedways.
I only say that because I think you're more apt to make them.
move to pass, knowing you're only going to go back to about 10.
You get a reset.
You know what I mean?
So it wouldn't actually make the racing better.
It would just make your guy's mindset a little more forgiving.
Yeah, I don't know.
But listen, All-Star Weekend should be for the race winners.
We all know that.
All the extra cars that they add is just fluff.
It's all I got on that.
Okay, well, All-Star weekend coming up in Dover, Friday, Saturday.
Sunday this weekend.
What channels it on?
FS1.
So practice on whatever
it is on FS2, so good luck watching that.
It's not on Prime?
Every week of practice
has been on Prime.
Let me see. Pockers tweeted it out.
Let me pull it back up.
Oh, it is.
So Cup practice on Friday is 3 p.m.
FS2.
Then
FS1 Saturday,
All-Star qualifying and Pit Crew
challenge and then Sunday is the race on FS1. So no prime. No prime, but then prime takes over
Coke 600 the following weekend. They do. All right. So this is Fox's last. Yep. This is it.
Okay. What else here? I got a review. I don't have a name on this one, but glad to see Chase
is two to one in matchups this year against any. I love the show. Keep up the good work. Enter Jared
in an Alex Bowman look-a-like contest.
What?
How's Chase 2-1 when we race 12 times?
Well, he's got two wins to your one-win.
Okay.
What about when we don't win?
Well, what do you count, Denny?
What would you rather have the two wins
or the second place in the standings?
I'll take where I'm at.
The standings matter when the reset happens.
You would rather right now be second in points
than have two wins?
No.
That's what I'm saying.
No, no, no, no, no.
I misunderstood.
I think, no, I would rather have more wins.
But as far as like living in a vacuum of this season,
I'd rather be second in points
because I'll have more points to start the chase.
But I would rather have more wins for the career accomplishments.
Yeah, no question.
I think this review is just referencing your,
you and Chase's one, two finishes.
Martinsville, one, two.
Last week before Watkins Glen, one, two.
then did you beat did you where did you win i don't know drives where Vegas Vegas did
jace finish second i forget but let's get to the more important thing i don't think Jared
looks like bowman do you looks like Alex Bowman yeah no where'd that come that's the
that's lost over that it was a Spotify comment last week and he said that he looks like
and Alex Bowman look alike contest i think he'd lose yeah i don't think so yeah i don't see it i don't
see it that's good i think that's good
I don't know.
All right.
Chase finished second at Las Vegas.
Oh, he did.
So there you go.
Yeah.
So in Chase's two wins, you finish second,
and your one win, Chase for the second.
Is that why people,
is that why the media was making a big deal about the head-to-head?
Yeah.
I didn't know that.
Yeah.
That we were one to in our finishes.
Yep.
Okay.
And then also May 21st,
a JRM's fan day.
Dirty Mo will have live shows starting at 9 a.m. to 11, Sirius XM on track. Then 11 to 12 is Dirty Mo Live with Mikey Davis.
Mike Davis. Kenny Wallace and friends. Then bless your heart with Dale and Amy 12 to 1, DBC 1 to 2.
All right. Well, that's all we got for this week.
Check out Dirtymo Media on Instagram, Facebook, X, and TikTok.
