But I was kind of too tired. really care to be honest, which is probably just whatever happens happens. If the 18 wheelers coming for you, it was like, it didn't matter, dude. It was our time.

But then when everyone went in the water, I was like, we're not fine. So tough. That was a mismanaged for me too. I wasn't going to make my dude with the broken foot getting the water. Yeah, JT, that would have been a lot to ask.

You did have him kick the ball off the first tee. He was like, I didn't feel too good. Yeah, I didn't worry about that. That was a good video, though. Yeah, it was. I'm a huge all sports golf battle fan. What's next for ASGB? We're seven deep.

We've done Augusta, bananas, wives. Dude, I think a kid's version of ASGB would be fun. I do. I do think a father's son would be very good. Kids ASGB would be wild. Baker Mayfield said he was disrespected by the Bucks contract offers. Yeah, I briefly saw this yesterday. day. I didn't really look into it too much. What was his offer? I just think. I don't know. I just think you keep those comments to yourself. Like, there's no reason to come out to the media and say that, dude. Oh, should I have to take back my offers or demands for dude perfect? Undervalue. Two years for a hundred mill? Feels like one of the situations where he's probably, it's the longevity aspect. He's probably want more long-term protection than the two-year deal. I said it on the podcast. I forget where we were, but I was just like, the quarterback's paid far too much. Oh, it's gotten, well, once the market goes there and teams continue to one up each other. I'm hoping one of these quarterbacks can just say, hey, you know what, I'll take a $38 million and live on the pennies that that is. And let my team away. I got to be honest, if somebody came to me and

No, I don't think he is either. He's just on the outside. And that's what I'm saying. If I'm Baker, I take that $100 million deal. Dude, renegotiate after one year if you have a great deal. Like, add the year on. I think that's probably where he's fed up, though, is he has gone year to year for the better part of five years. and just see what do you guys think about it. I'm with you, Gare. My immediate answer is no. No, the game's already high-scoring enough. You don't need another four-pointer. Maybe I would make it less high-scoring if you made it far enough. And what's an acceptable four point range?

If you're asking to, like, try to get games to be closer, just play better defense. Like, you don't need a four point play. I think this is more or less because people, I mean, we're stepping out to 30 feet with regularity now just about everybody bigs and guards alike. Then move the three point line back. What I get concerned about, and granted, I was wrong on baseball. A lot of things they were doing, I was scared of, and it ended up being. It's turned out good.

Yeah. This one, though, you're already diluting stats. I get worried about this, just like the pace of play nowadays and how many possessions are in the NBA. like all these kids playing nowadays are going to end up surpassing some of the all-time grades on the top 20 points list

that's where I go with that. That scares me that you're going to kind of dilute everything that's transpired up to this point. But then again, there's a day and age, what, all the way in the 70s until we got the three-point line, I think? And I guarantee if I was in the 70s I'd been like,

ah, you're going to change basketball way too much. What sport has changed the least over its history? That's a great question. Basketball had to... Yeah? Yeah.

But it's changed with the VAR stuff. Yeah, but it hadn't really changed the fundamentals of the game. No, it hasn't. I would have said baseball until about five years ago. Football gets changed a lot. A lot. You can't even hit anymore. Crackback blocks and kickoffs changing.

I mean, the definition of a catch was changing week by week there at one point. Yeah. Basketball's changed a lot. Baseball's changed? Mark Rubber! Good to be here. Finally, it took episode 147. I've been waiting for this call. Yeah, I will say, can we scroll back up the intro real quick? Yeah, what did I miss up? No, you didn't. It just says you spent like nine years.

Did you get fired or what happened? That's actually a really good starting point, Gare. Yeah. I did. It's a tough story for me to tell. No, funny enough. So my first YouTube video was a Halloween costume. So I had like an iPad in the front, an iPad in the back.

And I cut a hole in my shirt. And if you have FaceTime call, it looks like you have a hole in your body. So if you wave your hand here, the camera on the front sees it, and then it plays it on the screen on the back. So it's like basically a hole in torso costume with two iPads. Oh, that's kind of sick. So everyone at the Halloween party loved it. So I put it on YouTube, this newfangled app.

This is 2011. And it went kind of viral. And so then I, basically from that, I did one video a month since then for 15 years. But I started a Halloween costume company from NASA. Did you really? Well, the one complaint was like, cool idea, bro, but I don't have $1,200 for Halloween costume. Because it took two iPads. So the next year, I was like, oh, if you just print a cool print on a shirt, like a guy with, like, his eye, like, pinned open.

and then you create a free app that you just play a video like an eyeball moving around you could cut a hole in the shirt where the eye is and then duct tape your phone to that and you have a really cool it looks so real and like a sick costume for just the cost of a t-shirt so i is called digital duts started the company while we're getting ass on nights and weekends we launched it made like a quarter million dollars in like 20 days and i was like i should just go see what this turns into so i did that for two years between NASA and Apple, sold it to some guys in the UK, and then worked for Apple.

Wow, fascinating is that? You worked for Apple. Yeah, then after this, so after the Halloween costume company for two years, I worked for Apple for five years on their self-driving car, which was canceled. Wow, dude. Shortly after I left, I'm not saying there's a correlation there, but it is interesting. It's interesting. Yeah, I mean, that's kind of wild.

Do you miss it? Do you miss like kind of doing these, you know, Mars projects and stuff? I never minded like working for the man you know like at this point it's like we run crunch slabs There's like a lot of things we're doing but like I never had that like entrepreneurial bone where it's like I can't work for someone So I really enjoyed working at both NASA and Apple like the camaraderie working on something The thing is is that you're a very small part of something really big Whereas like with what we do now you're a very big part of something I would argue less impressive than a Mars rover

Yeah I would I would let you guys guys guys Look, I'm not saying anything we do is impressive at all. Like, I think maybe going to third grade might be more impressive. So, that's cool. I didn't know you worked at Apple. That's cool. That's quite the character. That's what got me to the Bay Area.

And then that's where you stayed. And then that's where you stayed. Yeah. Okay. The Twintens, did they have a cup of tea at Apple? They were slinging iPhones there for a second. They were slinging iPhones. They were really like designing anything.

I see. Really? Wait, they were like at the genius bar? Yeah, yeah. Frontline troops, man. Let's go. Yeah. There's a job for everyone at Apple, man.

Quite the character arc, Mark. I've got to ask you because I hear it nightly. Garrett does too post show when we ask the kiddos what videos they want going forward. So many have said they want a battlebot rematch. Put you on the spot. I mean, you're the winner. You don't have to say, I mean, we're like, you know, the JV here. But would you be down?

I would be down. That was such a delightful fun. You guys are so fun together. Like the whole thing was just so organic. and like fun that was just such a fun funny video Was that the first, that wasn't the first time we met though No not met no we'd done some stuff

I mean we did the world's longest t-shirt can and you guys didn't overtime it's so Fy Dude when that the battle bot video the moment when that you flung the car Over the like that was a wild dude That's the closest so what's funny about that little BTS on this my, Jean-Marcoe on my team, he's kind of like Mr. Safety. And a lot of times it's like overkill. Yeah.

But I'm like, he got to let him do his thing. He got to let him do his thing. And it's like, okay, this seems extreme. He said, where you guys are driving your bots from, we're going to put a steel plate above it. Case of Bach gets flung over. And I'm like, okay. Like even if it does, it's just.

It's not going. There's not a big deal. And thank goodness he did. or I may not be here right now. I mean, we flung that over. It landed right on top. And then it went and then bounced over and made a massive dent in your guy's wall.

That was... Well, yeah, that was really funny. I mean, that video was a lot of fun. I would definitely do it again. I learned a lot. I'd bring my A game this next time. I'd bring my A game. But yeah, everyone talks about that.

Everybody knows, yeah. It's a fan favorite for sure. That's great. Likewise, I hear a lot of positive feedback on it too. Do you feel like you have to dumb yourself down with the group of guys like us? Quite a bit, yeah, quite a bit. But it works. I have to dumb myself down with those guys.

That's what I was just telling our buddy mate. And he was like, man, I love Mark. But you start talking to him. It'll make you feel self-conscious. You're like, man, my ACT scores do not match up to this man's for sure. What made you want to get into the side? You just loved it as a kid? Yeah, like I took, I don't know.

It's like you guys, you know, you got kids. Like, they come pre-programmed, right? And I just, I would just had an inclination towards math and science. I guess. Especially high school physics. I was like, this feels really good. I loved high school physics. Different breed, dude. Yeah. You were a different breed. Yeah. Because you can like predict the future and like with with math and equations. No matter what language you speak, no matter where you grew up. Like it's all you all get the same answer and that's how you get a rover to Mars. Like you could literally do the math and it's like if we launch it here nine months before 25,000 miles an hour, it should hit the planet just at the right time. And it works. So it's like, that's amazing. It's like a crystal ball that actually works. Speaking of Mars, Garrett owns some land on the moon.

Yeah. You're a big life on Mars in the next couple. Life on the moon. Life on the moon. Not on Mars. But I think there's going to be, I think people will go to the moon in my lifetime. Like that you can just like take a trip up there. Like it's Disney?

Yeah. You put your Mickey ears on. I mean, it's going to cost you a lot more. more to go than Disney, but I think it's going to be available. How feasible is that, Mark? And are we close to that? I think before you see that, you'll see, like, you can make it from California to Australia in 45 minutes if you go via space.

So, like, that is an actual reason, a commercial reason to make space. 45 minutes. Explain the science behind that. Basically, you kind of go up. The Earth, in part, is rotating underneath you, but then you just go, you actually go into space, so there's no friction, right? So you can go much, much faster when you're not. bonging into air molecules. So you kind of go up, travel in space, and then come back down.

So there's a commercial reason for doing it besides just fun. And I think that will probably drive it first. Yeah, that will drive. I mean, dude, instead of going 18 hours, 45 minutes, I could go play some golf in the sandbelt and 45 minutes. That's a day trip, dude. No kid. We can go on lunch break. Yeah, it's like, I'm going to go to Australia. No born on lunch. I mean, does that do anything to the body, though? No, no. I mean, it's all very control when you launch. So your boy might be going to space. Whoa. Coming up actual space. Not like Kobe space. Not Kobe space. Oh yeah. Fake space. I like to call it fake space. Like four days. And even on that on that launch on a

SpaceX rocket, it's, um, you pull like three Gs. So that's like currently you're being pushed into the seat. Like gravity is pulling you down into the seat. So you would feel like three times the force you're currently your butts hitting the seat. Yeah. Which is like pretty dual. That's like less than a roller coaster. Yeah. So yeah, it doesn't do anything more to your body than a roller coaster does. That's kind of well. But I'm saying more like dehydration, things like that. No, I mean, no.

There is a thing if you go high enough into space, you have to worry more about radiation. This is crazy. Astronauts, even with their eyes closed, because there's like radiation, our Earth, the magnetosphere, protects us from radiation. But if you're actually in space outside of that, you can have your eyes closed and they will hit like maybe a couple times a week. week, hit the back of your, like your retina through your skull and it, like, you see a flash of radiation in your, in your back of your eye. Because radiation doesn't care. It'll like go through those particles will go through anything. I did not expect to talk about magna fields. Yeah. A casual magnetosphere. Is that that it was? Just a casual. Take no. This is kind of,

this is kind of crazy. Okay. But, and then I want to hit something real quick because I was, you know, I wasn't skeptical. Okay. I was skeptical. The earth is spherical. No, I know it's, I know it's spherical. But did we put somebody on the moon? Yes. But like, but I, so I agree we put somebody on the moon, but they definitely didn't. The film job of that was filmed.

We couldn't communicate with them. There's no way. How did we communicate, man? I can't get Wi-Fi through that cylinder wall right there. The, so the one of the, yeah. I love it here. From the top rope early. You can kind of go down the list.

of things, like, one of the worst, like, the most compelling case people use that the moon landing was faked is there's footage in a soundstage of astronauts and that's being filmed. Like a commercial. No, they're practicing. But the problem is this footage exists.

So people, that I think was like patient zero for like this was fake because there's footage of astronauts on something that looks like a moon skis. practicing. But this is what you do because you want to simulate. It's going to be really bright. It's not like normal sun. There's no atmosphere. So of course you would want to practice that on a soundstage, right? Yeah. But like people see that footage and then say, oh, the flag's not waving. Or, you know, you're not seeing dust come up from the back of the doom buggy as it goes. But like,

there's no air molecules on the moon to wave the flag. So that's exactly what you would expect. Same with dust coming out and levitating. a good point. Yeah, make a really good point. If you go down, every single one of the points can be debunked, but it just goes to show that like if someone can, you know, with the right music, you know, and in the right, like, way to phrase it, we just, we just haven't had a, we just haven't had a reason to go back, I'm guessing. Yeah, there's just no reason. Like, now there is. Like, there's a lot of opportunities to, you know, go to, just even with, like, mining energy now. You know, Elon Musk kind of saw this, you know, we did the, the, the, the, the,

Starlink satellites, but now they're talking about like putting data centers in space and energy. So the fact that Elon has this ability to get up there really inexpensively, he's very much ahead of the game. And there's going to be same thing, like a data center on the moon. There's going to be a lot of opportunities and reasons to go to space for commercial reasons. So that is absolutely like actually like, you know, on an upward trend for sure. Interesting. Well, the data centers certainly found Texas.

I know that much. Really? They definitely did. Already you've seen them or you just hear about them? They're being built. They're massive facilities too. I don't tell you why. So as a sports fan, I had favorite athletes growing up.

Safe to say, did you have like favorite astronauts or scientists growing up? Dude, that's so good. Because I'm an Neil Armstrong guy. No, I had the Jerry Rice poster in my room where he just did it where it's like that shot from him. It's a Nike poster. And he's just doing this and he's got like the football. has just did it. Like the player, the guy gardener was on the ground. I Gretzky, I had a Gretzky poster up there. You know, I'm cool. I'm hip. You absolutely are. And you're a

competitor too. That's what I was also telling me. You were out there getting some reps in for the squad games tour. And I told us that we played golf with them. We did the robot video. So the other thing, too, is like, we just go outside and play every single day. And that was football. That was tag. That was soccer.

That was baseball. So, like, that's why tonight doing this thing is so fun. Like, I've done all of these sports. to some extent my whole life. But one time I just love mountains to climb and one of them was like, I want to try and run. Like I'm gonna do a half marathon and I wanna do it under two hours.

So I set this goal. And then I came like I was coming down the and I could see the clock and it was just under two. And I just, I emptied the tank. I let it all out. I mean, I was like, Hussein Bolt coming down the stretch. And it felt amazing until I saw a video of it. and like to call it, it would be generous to call it a shuffle.

But like in my mind, I thought I was just big cook. And it was like, it was bad. Like the delta between what I thought I looked like and what I look like was pretty vast. It's so funny you say that because like every night, you know, we do a like in our show, we do bucket golf. Like so from the stadium you're running down the stairs. And like in your mind you're like, dude, I just like, I look, I probably look pretty good going to the upstairs. And like after every interview, Jackson's like, bro, I don't know if you think, like what you think, but like, what was that? And you looked horrible, dude.

I was like, dude, I kind of felt like I was cooking there. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. It definitely. It definitely, uh, yeah, almost that thing. You know, perception is reality, though.

So just won't watch any highlights from tonight. And I'll just keep it in my mind. Yeah. Um, and then so you got still doing videos once a month? Yeah. , more or less. Yeah. Because we have the Crunch Labs channel too.

But they're like top of their class, MIT, Stanford, Princeton. and they're really, really smart, engineers. So we'll, we'll do like a pumpkin carving contest. This is their normal jobs. It'll be like, they all compete.

And so the kind of, the things they come up with is just wild. Or an egg drop and then seeing how they approach the egg drop. So you used to be the smartest person in your company. Yeah. Now where do you rank? I'm probably like 28th. No way. Out of how many.

How many? How 29? Dude, y'all's lunch combos have got to be absolutely wild, dude. That's what Cooper Flagg was talking about finding a better gym. You want everybody else to be smarter than you. It makes you better.

That's good point. Yeah, dude, I have to go to lunch with intern Jackson. I mean, that dude, dropped out of college midway for his freshman year. You forget to have to tie your shoes after talking too long to Jackson. Yeah, dude. You could just track your IQ. I got to surround myself with smarter people, man. Crunch Labs hiring?

Yeah, that's crazy. You all have like a standardized test scores to get in type thing to Crunch Labs. No, no, it's better. What we do is everyone does this. And we probably hired to get those 14, we've probably took through the interview process about 1,500 people. Wow. So it is thorough. It's rigorous.

It's rigorous. It's one in 100. But everyone gets this, you get a piece of paper, a plastic water bottle, a paper, a paper clip, and then you have to design a toy. with that and as much hawk glue as you want. And the creativity that these guys come up with, we've had, and a couple rubber bands, I think, we've had people make helicopters that fly up, actual like cars that go on the ground, like shooters. It's insane about just like the creativity and how they approach it.

And it's less about actually the final product, but how they go about their thought process. And that hands down is like, that's like the best possible interview question. Because you could fake an interview for 30 minutes. Yeah. You can't fake something like that. Sure. A couple more questions before you get to the game. As far as like schooling goes, like you went through science class like we all did, but like take crunch labs now.

Do you feel like you learn more as a kid doing stuff like crunch labs like in science or do you like going into the classroom and being like, here's. That's good here. Yeah. Funny you should ask. So, and the answer is for sure. Like if you really want to remember something, you got to like feel it in your heart. This is why you, it's hard to memorize the equation for terminal velocity, but you remember all the lyrics of the song you sang as a teenager.

For sure. For you felt those feelings, right? So the key is to, for learning to have that visceral experience, something that moves you here. And that's kind of the point of a 15 ton jello pool. Yeah, it gets you to click on the thing. But now that you've clicked on it, now I'm going to teach you about, you know, the scientific method and we're going to learn about chemistry. But I've got, but I've kind of

hiding the vegetables. I bring you in on this other thing. So we're taking all the tricks we've learned on how to hide the vegetables over 15 years and making a full science curriculum third to eighth grade. We're calling it class crunch labs. It'll cost us $60 million to make and then we're making it free forever for all teachers. And the point is your point, which is that it's no longer like sage on the stage where you come in and be like, this is the right answer. We, Every lesson starts with like, you know, I'm in the truck and it's going, it's a runaway truck going down the hill. It's like, oh, my brakes are out. Like, how are we going to stop this?

You know, and then, and we don't give them the answer. The kids scooby-do their way to the answer over two weeks. Each lesson they learn, this is for kinetic energy. Yeah. Each lesson, they learn something different. And then eventually, you know, they're building their own carts in class. And these things that they're building cost zero dollars. Yeah, that's cool.

So it has to be major stuff you find in the trash can. our PD, our toy engineers are doing them. So like a card binder clips, you know, the caps on on soda bottles, and that's your car. And that's how you're doing your own test with kinetic energy. So it's all about getting in the trenches and getting with physically feeling it. And it's exciting and it's interesting. And that's how you learn. So there's a lot of good curriculum out there, and they mean well, the curriculum riders, but they've had to earn zero views. I've had to earn 17 billion views. So I'm just like you guys know, sure.

You know how to make content. Yeah. Yeah. So I love that. I think I might be an engineer now. You've sold me, dude. Yeah. Do you take pride or like I feel an almost an obligation to give back to the kids and

make it fun and to pull those emotional heartstrings? Yeah. I think it is, um, especially for class crunch labs, it is sort of an obligate. It's like we are hands down the, the, the, the, the, in the best position to do this. And so it's like to not do it would be like super irresponsible. And I really do think it will be the most professionally at least the most important thing I do my whole life.

Oh, it's also going to take four year, five years to make. And that's one week out of my month for five years is volunteering to make this. That's awesome. So it's like a really, really cool. Big labor of love. Yeah. And you mentioned like just dude perfect kind of being the anomaly 17 years into this, 09 and like the ability to diversify and keep it fresh.

How challenging is that for you now that you've been doing it for so long to keep it fun, fresh, new? Yeah, I think it just kind of happens naturally. I mean, I think I'm kind of like you guys where it's like I always want a mountain to climb, like just to do the same thing over and over. Like I would get antsy and restless, you know. Even like this tour, for example, each time you guys do it, you're not doing the same thing. It's like, ooh, what else can we do to try? Spice it up. And so I think it is that natural desire to spice it up and try new things makes it.
