Starting point is 00:00:00 We filmed these videos, you know, a month before they come out live. So, you know, my kids always inquire about, like, if we're filmed the battle, who won the battle? They had to know, so I was like, I got the dub. I know that's shocking. And my daughter looks at me and says, well, what happened to Tyler? How did he get hurt? And I'm like, yo, what? I'm going to go with, like, the melting emoji.
Starting point is 00:00:24 I always equate that emoji to kind of, like, sad and confused and, like, I just kind of give up. And that's the Atlanta Falcon quarterback situation to me. Yeah, yeah. If you guys had to leave your kids with one of the dudes, who would you trust the most boring day of all time to leave your kids with? If you want to have the most boring day of all time, go with the twins. But you're going to be safe. You're going to be extremely safe.
Starting point is 00:00:45 They're going to have like life jackets on while they're riding bikes with helmets. Carrying safe as a kid. Dude, it's like there's no body of water. You never know. Welcome to Almost Athletes with Dude Perfect, a Wave Original. Follow the show on all social media at almost athletes. Starting point is 00:01:19 I'm Garrett. I'm Spark. Man, what a weekend. Football's back. Yeah, ma'am. An unhealthy amount of football watch. Is there an unhealthy amount of football to be watched? I don't think so, actually.
Starting point is 00:01:29 Well, there's not anything better as a college fan of the tech name to Maggie's to get your win out of the way at 11 a.m. Not the stress and watch stress-free football the rest of the weekend. Until Sunday night when the Cowboys played and it was like stressed again. Yeah. But there was a nice, what, like 16-hour window of peace there, post-aggies before Cowboys? For the solid 24 of just nothing. Well, dude, we've got to talk about what happened in the dude. Perfect realm this weekend.
Starting point is 00:01:58 Oh, yeah. Where do you put that in terms of one of your greatest battle performances? Oh, you're talking about the video. Oh, I'm talking about the main channel football mini-games video. Okay, first of all, the finish. The one-hand finish might be since the chubby dubby, I don't know if there's been somebody cap a battle dub with just more aura than that right there. I mean, look, dude, it's about winning the battles not on camera, you know? What kind of work you're going to put in? Right. What kind of are you going to grind, you know? Are you working out? I noticed a little different G though. Like generally kind of just cool with podium. And this one you had a little different. It was the duck hunt. There was some fire in the eyes. There was a turn. It was like awesome. and then the leaves turned for you. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:02:41 Yeah. It could have just been the fact that, you know, Texas is 400 degrees and just kind of brings out the fire in you. Yeah. I don't really know. But yeah, it was a fun video. It felt like old school dude perfect kind of battle,
Starting point is 00:02:53 which I think the fans thought to. It's like you had the school stereotypes. You had this one. The next one we do is kind of the same thing in a similar realm. I think it's a good time actually to tell the people that like there's intention behind what we do and what we attempt to do. And they are a large voice that we continually listen to, reference when it comes to video ideas,
Starting point is 00:03:17 and for them to really attach and gravitate towards an OG dude perfect video. Like that was really cool. I mean, I think you can feel it through the camera. I was like, man, this feels like circa 2018 dude perfect. I think people, you know, I've seen a lot of comments about our last two years. And I will say, I don't think the people are far off. I do think maybe we kind of got a little in some muddy water as like where we were kind of going as far as like we launched a lot of channels.
Starting point is 00:03:44 We had a lot of buckets in the, you know, that we were trying to juggle. There's a lot of trial and air. We were venturing into places we've ever been. I think we just kind of over the last, you know, since school stereotypes, these last few we filmed, the few were about the films. Trying to go back to the old school, dude perfect. And by old school, I mean like the charisma, the energy, the, you know, the fire and that. And I just wanted to tell the people we listen, and they have certainly done their part in encouraging us to do that.
Starting point is 00:04:11 But it's trial and air. We're figuring out what we want to do. It is. And then we also have a new book drop. Whoa. Yeah. 922. So not today.
Starting point is 00:04:20 It's actually next Tuesday. So September 22nd, new book drop in our series, Dude Perfect Plus Panda, Match Day, Mayhem. I have an affinity for this product. Want to know why? Because you're in it? The main character in this one. Oh, wow, you got main character. I was, uh...
Starting point is 00:04:42 I am, uh, and look, this is almost nonfiction. This is almost nonfiction because the story of this one is, I go to, uh, I go to London, the boys go to London to watch Burnley and end up. We got to help Burnley. And boy, oh boy, do we need to help Burnley? This may be from foreshadowing. They're last place in the championship. they need all the help they can get, all the cheering we can get,
Starting point is 00:05:08 and maybe sign me up for the locker room, dude. I don't even need to see the pitch. Just let me help you. But it's when a priceless royalty trophy is stolen right before a massive international soccer match in London, the Dude Perfect crew must untangle a jewel heist mystery and step up on the field to save the day. So pre-order a copy today at book.dudeperfey.com
Starting point is 00:05:32 or pick one up wherever you get your books, starting next week, September 22nd. I'm going to bookmark that in my calendar because I want a piece of that. Second book, right? Read it kind of like as a mini-fiction non-fiction. Some truth and some false to it. But truthfully, you may, foreshaddy,
Starting point is 00:05:50 you may want to bring your boots and your shin pads over to Burnley because you could probably start it right back for him. Before we move on, back to the battle. Dude, I've been sitting on this for a couple weeks because I thought it was one of the funniest things I've ever read. You go home after the battle, Yes.
Starting point is 00:06:05 Your daughter issued one of the best lines. Tell us what you said to her and what she responded back with. Yeah, so we filmed these videos, you know, a month before they come out live. So, you know, my kids always inquire about like if we're filmed the battle, who won the battle? I don't really like to spoil it, but they were just, they had to know. So I was like, I got the dub, you know. I know that's shocking. I know that's shocking.
Starting point is 00:06:30 And my daughter looks at me and says, well, what happened to Tyler? Like, why did he, how did he get hurt? And I'm like, yo, what? I laughed out loud. Nothing happened to Tyler. I beat him fair and square.
Starting point is 00:06:44 It was like 8 p.m. and I was at the crib and I see you put that. Iris just said, end quotes. Where was Tyler? Did he get hurt? And I just started laughing out loud. And is there a better feeling in the world than getting like a text,
Starting point is 00:06:57 eight ha-haws on a text? You've set almost a ha-ha record because there was like 10 ha-haas. And if I could issue two of them, I would have. But for a guy who gets a lot of ha-haws in our group chat, and I take pride in it, that one deserved as many ha-haz as possible. I felt like, look, I mean, I understand I got to pick it up in the battles, but come on, Iris, we're blood here. But I love that she calls out, she sees it the innocence of a child.
Starting point is 00:07:18 Tyler hurt? Yeah, it's hilarious. Yeah, his, uh, his ego's hurt. His ego's a little hurt because I beat him in the nally. I thought it was a really cool video. Props to you, Gere. It was a fun video. Congrats on the dub. Is that your first mini, mini-games dub? Yeah. Yeah. I think so. Gosh. Actually, dude, it's so weird. I remember pretty much I'm very observant. I remember a lot of things. The one thing I don't remember is Dude Perfect stuff. I kind of just erase my memory from it. I don't know why. Which is odd, given all that you remember. What was the last one you won?
Starting point is 00:07:50 You had one recently a dub, didn't you? It'd been a minute. Oh, it's been a while. It's been a while. You won the finale out at Tyler's Ranch. What was that? It's been a long time since I won a battle. too long when we're thinking like that. Well, congratulations, Gare, earned, not give in. Coming up on today's episode, there were some major upsets in the first week of real college football action. We'll get into that.
Starting point is 00:08:12 Plus, we're going to catch up on voicemails. We're going to do that with the interns. But first week, one of the NFL is in the books, and Jamie Erdall is here to catch up with us using emojis. You're going to stick around for that. It's the NFL. It's Jamie Erudal. It's next on Almost Athletes.
Starting point is 00:08:26 And now it's that time on Almost Athletes. Happy to be joined by the Woman of Truth herself. Jamie Erdoll. Welcome back. You must be doing something right, Jamie, to get the return call, you know? It's because I'm on the eye from the candy team comparison that we went through. Thank you. It's up with you guys. How are you? You're welcome. Good, good. Where are we posted up right now? Looks like we're like in a haunted, haunted hotel or something? Yeah, I'm just by myself in a hotel in Kansas City ahead of Monday night football. We did GMFB from downtown KC today and then tonight's the game and we'll find out how week one closes out here.
Starting point is 00:09:02 tonight. I mean, you got to be excited about your Vikings, right? Yeah, it's a great place to start, Garrett. Yeah. I was, I don't know if we were going to start with the Vikings, the Cowboys. I wasn't sure which end of the emotional spectrum. We're not going to talk about the Cowboys. The Cowboys.
Starting point is 00:09:15 The only thing we're going to talk about in that game is how I think I picked the Giants to win the division. And boy, do they look good. Yeah. I forgot you did that. Congratulations. So. Yeah, let me talk about the Vikings.
Starting point is 00:09:25 But yeah, the boys are terrible. Yeah. So. Is that why we wore purple today? Was that by design? I mean, I wasn't saying that, like, I already had my suitcase pack. And then I wore a green blazer on GMFB this morning. And I just felt like I should not have that on because it's packer green.
Starting point is 00:09:41 Yeah. And, but I was just mostly trying to avoid Broncos and Chiefs colors. But, oh, that what a game? However, what emotional cost and physical cost did it come to? I don't know what's going to happen with Kyle and Murray. Even if he comes back, like, a week later, it was just really, you hate to see any guy go down like that and be in the fencing position. But honestly, once again, I think it speaks to Kevin O'Connell. on the type of coach that he is that Carson Wentz can just bingo bingo.
Starting point is 00:10:05 Also weird to see J.J. McCarthy just standing there with his wrist thing. But, you know, what are we going to do? But yeah, what a comeback? Question for you. I was under the impression that JJ was going to win the number two job. Then game day shows up. He's rolled inactive. Carson's the backup.
Starting point is 00:10:21 How do you feel about all that? Was that like a surprise to you as well? It was a, hmm, okay, how do I phrase this? I'm not surprised that Carson was the better backup. because he is experienced, mature. He played well last year for Kevin O'Connell before he got hurt. I just, I don't know what this means for the, like, where are we supposed to go from here with JJ McCarthy? Like when, on the opener, when Sam Darnold got hurt in Seattle, now everyone's like, is this really going to happen?
Starting point is 00:10:53 Are we going to have to trade J.J. to Seattle? And it's all going to happen again. But I don't think Darnal's injury is going to be that bad. So I don't think they have to do that, Drew Locke, and just play it out for them. but I don't know where we go from here in our JJ McCarthy journey. TBD, whatever, we won, we be the peggers, we. Yeah, I mean, it was impressive. A little dysfunctional, but a dub is a dub.
Starting point is 00:11:12 You'd rather be dysfunctional in a winner than, you know, the Cowboys and be dysfunctional with a big L coming home. That's a tough plane ride home, I'll tell you what. Can we just talk about the Cowboys for a second? Like, we spent all off-season. We spent all off-season talking about Christian Parker showing up and how he was going to be like the next like Wonder Kid. of like defensive brilliance.
Starting point is 00:11:33 And Chris Collinsworth was like actively mind-boggled at the end of the second half as to how they could allow Isaiah likely to make all those catches. What was that? What were you thinking? Sparky. I saw a note this morning that according to EPA, it was the worst defensive output in week one and like the worst for the Cowboys, even dating back to last season. And we saw some pretty pathetic defense last season.
Starting point is 00:11:56 But I do want to credit the other side. As much as I hate complimenting the G-Men, you know, I think that was the difference of seeing a more buttoned-up hardball approach. I thought they executed a game plan well. They took what the Cowboys gave them. I thought Jackson Dart played really well within himself. He layered a ball over the backer and in front of a safety on one of those. He didn't play with so much reckless a ban.
Starting point is 00:12:16 He slid, which I'm like, oh, Harbaugh must be doing some secret sauce there. If he's getting this guy who has no regard for human life to go down. So credit to the G-Men also. I think this was just as much about New York and executing a game plan as it was the Cowboys. But yeah, big question marks defensively. So we'll see where it heads. I mean, we also gave them seven points. Like, I
Starting point is 00:12:38 can't believe Dak did that at the end of the half. Like, I'm still furious about it. You just don't do that. You put it in your pocket. Yep. Or you make sure you get it out of dance. I still just don't understand how we pay people $60 million a year. And any other job, you're
Starting point is 00:12:54 getting questioned for that. That's just crazy to me. Yeah. I get that. That's like, that is so bad. It's valid. And the game's different if you just take the sack there and punt the ball away. I also want to point out that I thought it was very odd. And I get its first quarter, but, you know, Brian Schottenheimer's been,
Starting point is 00:13:14 whether you, by fault or not, he's an uber aggressive head coach. And I thought it was interesting. On the fourth and inches on the opening drive, I thought for sure. You go for that. Anyway, you got a quarterback who happens to weigh 230 pounds, squats, 5, 25. I'd have got them under center, tap the button. fell forward, all off Philly. But that shocked me, given the fact that shoddy is a, you know, if this was blackjack, he hits his hard 16s. And he's elected to punt that one. I thought that was
Starting point is 00:13:39 a little weird. While the weight and the size, class of DAC is impressive, the defensive line on the Giants, though, like, you can't, that's not one that they're just going to like bowl over to, like, to have Arvel Reese and Kvon-Tibodeau. And, I mean, I know they gave up Dexter Lawrence, but like that's, I don't know. I'm not, it was really in the game, though. I feel like he should. I hear you. I hear you. Exactly. In hindsight is 20-20. I think if that's later, in the game and you're well aware that your defense is having some issues gigantic problems getting the ball back for your team i think he obviously would have gone for it knowing how it played out but props to the giants who really just suffocated that football game too i think they had seven possessions
Starting point is 00:14:12 in the entirety of the game they look they look they look good they look like they're having fun yeah let me ask you guys this let's say in can we stay in the nfc for a second can we go do you go when you look at the bears panthers game do you go glass half full for like that's good for the bears or glass half empty like pamphs is what are we doing giving up 59 to the Bears on the road at home? Yeah, yeah, it's a great question. It was a little shocking, probably a little bit of both. I do love Chicago.
Starting point is 00:14:40 I think Chicago is. Like, you can't give up that many points yet. Like, Chicago's not going to score 60 points every game. You wouldn't expect that now. You're going to lose a lot of games if their defense plays like that. I don't know. I mean, it was a fun watch, but like, that's not happening every week. That was a college football game.
Starting point is 00:14:56 It was big 12. Maybe that's why he liked it so much. there in Carolina. Yeah, it was fun. That was not, that was not an NFL game. But man, there was 59 points. I just thought there was incredible game. Like, I mean, the Bill's Texans game was unbelievable. Very good. Yeah. Was that a playoff preview for you, Jamie? I think there's a chance we may be circling that matchup later. The good nugget out of that one was eight lead changes in that game, which was the most in a week one game since 2002. So that just like normally doesn't happen. It's like that kind of excitement. We saved that for October and November.
Starting point is 00:15:28 I was feeling for C.J. Stroud at the end of that. First of all, Texas defense, you can't give up that many points to, I don't care who it is when you're at home, especially when all off season, specifically me. By the way, Sparky, did you see that I predicted the Texas and the Cowboys in the Super Bowl and GMFB? Yes, I did. Yeah. Yeah. I don't know if that's if I should congratulate you on that. Yeah. Thank you. Thank you.
Starting point is 00:15:49 A lot of season left. A lot of season left. You're right. But I was feeling for C.J. start at the end because, like, he had a moment and an opportunity to just, like, prove the doubters wrong and to change a big old. narrative right there, especially the way in which he lost it with like getting to sack and then like bobbling the ball. It was like, CJ, no, don't do this to yourself. It was bad. I thought he played very well considering everyone was out on CJ. Sure. I mean, if you're the Texans quarterback and you score 30 plus points, but he's usually going to think that you win the ball the ball of the entire game. You took care of the ball. Yeah, there was a lot, but I was like, I mean,
Starting point is 00:16:19 you can also blame the blocking assignment. Like, true. I don't, you know, I feel like C. C.J. Stroud is back. I feel like both of those teams are. are legit too, and you're going to see a lot more of both Houston and Buffalo. How about the surprises across the NFL, Jamie? I was sitting here talking about, I don't know if I see a win on the Cardinal's schedule. Poor Susie's in house today. She's a Chargers fan. That was shocking to me.
Starting point is 00:16:42 Maybe the most shocking week one development was watching because not only did the cards beat them. They kind of beat them. They did not let them in the game at all. Yeah, they held them. They stiff on them as they were running to the end zone. That's exactly right. Maybe we shouldn't have be a shocked. Like Mike LaFleur of the LaFleur coaching family.
Starting point is 00:16:58 and genetically speaking, except for, except his brother lost this weekend, but that's, again, we already covered that. But Michael Fleur, great first win for him as a head coach. And then he comes from the McVay tree. So I don't, maybe we just, we shouldn't have sure changed him so much. I don't know if it was just the roster makeup. But I was, I'm happy for the Cardinals and very concerned for the Chargers because I just don't know where you go from here.
Starting point is 00:17:22 It was supposed to be like electric factory under Mike McDaniel. Like, we didn't really see that at all. Fair. And as is disappointed we were in the Chargers for not taking that next step. Granted, it was Cleveland, but I think those Jacksonville Jaguars keep an eye on them. I feel like they're entering the Trevor Lawrence Prime here. They've really put the pieces around them. Again, it was Cleveland.
Starting point is 00:17:42 It was the Brownies, but it was a really buttoned up performance there in the Sunshine State for the Jags, I thought. I totally agree. And again, I think people were, they just want to deny the Jags. I don't know, like a moment in the spotlight. And Liam Cohen went on a ramp this offseason about how his team is like small market and doesn't get any coverage. just like perfectly okay with that. But I think the Jags should not be denied.
Starting point is 00:18:02 We need to talk about them. And I love that for them. But yeah, I'm not really sure that's a sample size of an opponent that I really want to do that. So maybe I might hold off to week two until I make a fair judgment on the Jackson board, okay, let's play our game. Week one of the NFL season is officially in the books, which means we now have exactly one game's worth of evidence to make completely
Starting point is 00:18:19 reasonable level-headed judgments. Or we can do it in a language everyone understands no better than Jamie. emojis. We're going to go through some of the biggest. games from week one and we'll hand out emojis to teams, players, coaches, and moments that made us feel something. You can use multiple emojis more than once, Jamie. We're not going to hold you back. There's our list of emojis there. Anything right off the bat talking to you? Well, I did see one piece of imagery that has stuck with me not in a good way over the weekend. And I guess
Starting point is 00:18:48 if you're going to bring him up, Garrett, I'll mention Aaron Glenn. Did anybody see how he hawked a Lugie and it hung on his headset. Yeah, you don't want, yeah. I did it. I didn't, I didn't see that. That's my woozy emoji. That one that, like, plays a hot. That's where we start.
Starting point is 00:19:07 Aren't they, don't these guys have, like, personal assistants following them around being, like, trying to help them out a little bit? You would hope so. You would hope so. Yeah. No, just at least, at least tell them about it. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:19:20 You probably shouldn't have to resort to it. That's nasty. Yeah, that's, that's, uh. Woozy. Yeah, that's woozy for sure. That's a great start. Yeah. I didn't know we're going to go Aaron Glenn Lugies to start. I had the Aggie, you know, you got to go with the Aggie.
Starting point is 00:19:34 Yeah, yeah, see, we do it to ourselves. That's the thing that's just brutal. I just wish we didn't have to do it to ourselves. But here we are. I felt like the Ravens, I felt like the Ravens offense was the kind of starstruck emoji. Oh, good one. That was. I like that.
Starting point is 00:19:53 That was a fun watch. They like could not be stopped. Yeah, 4123. They had some injuries at the end of the game now, which really stinks. Was Dayflowers? Dayflowers had a couple weeks. And then Jacoby Lane, the rookie wide receiver out of USC is going to be down with the broken wrist for a couple weeks too.
Starting point is 00:20:09 So that that's not good. But they looked. They looked fun. On the road too, don't underrate how tough it can be to play there in indie too. Derek Henry just still, I'm not sure how he does it. He just looks like he runs at like a 45 degree angle, like at all. all times. I wasn't going to mention it because he is my co-host, but I did slap Sparky and Fantasy this week. And Derek Henry and Josh Allen put up some, they were a big part of it.
Starting point is 00:20:34 Yeah, it's always, it's always a shame when about halfway through the, uh, new window of red zoning, the writings on the wall. Yeah, when you're, when you're projected score is like half of what your team, other, your opposing team already has. He was going toe to toe with the Chicago Bears. So he's like, every time the bear scored Garrett was scoring too. And I was like, my gracious. I I think there just scored for the Bears somehow. It was amazing. Good pick there with the Starstruck. I'm going to go with the Yon.
Starting point is 00:21:00 And for me, the Tennessee Titans. There's not much substance there. I will say, I love the jerseys. I love the rebrand. That's cool. If the Houston Oilers of the past are want to call and get their jerseys back, it was very all-law Houston Oilers from back in the day. But there's, I mean, can you give me something to like about these Tennessee Titans, Jamie?
Starting point is 00:21:20 No, the other thing I saw about Aaron Glenn is that it, it, or no, about Robert Sala was that this is what it took for Robert Sala to make the Jets good. That's the only thing I saw about the Titans this weekend. It took for Robert Sala to leave the Jets and go coach the Titans in order to make the Jets look good. So, no, I mean, I wish I could get there too.
Starting point is 00:21:38 It's Nashville's a great town. The colors are fun. They give us in New Jersey. Like, it has all the meat on the bone. And then it's just like really bad meat. Like, I just, I don't know what that. I just, it's infuriating. She's giving an angry emoji.
Starting point is 00:21:53 It's like you're looking for, yeah, it's like you're looking for top of the line sushi and you settle for like quick trip gas station sushi is what the Tennessee Titans are. I'll give you some heartburn and the stomach ache on the way out too. Action back on you, Jamie. What emoji we're going with?
Starting point is 00:22:07 I'm just thinking about gas station sushi for a second. Sushi, I'm sorry. No, it's right. That's me. That's me. I hear Kansas City's got plenty of options for gas station sushi. Yeah, I bet.
Starting point is 00:22:15 I think I'll stick with the burk ribs. Okay, I will go with the mind-blown emoji and did you see Roma Dunesay's catch over the guy for the Carolina Panthers? Like, I don't know. Is that a full-blown, like he got moused or is it, does it still count as a moss? Yeah, that's a moss. Yeah. Roma Dunesay, full-blown mossing somebody from, and it was like almost on the guy's opposite shoulder pads and still catch it.
Starting point is 00:22:39 Roma Dunesay, like, he, I just really want him to become spectacular. And also, strange little nugget from that Bears offense from the Bears game. Colson Loveland, like, didn't have a catch. And they still scored 59. So, like, I don't know what we're doing here with the Bears' offense, but that thing is mind-blown. Mind-blown. Yeah, to score 59 and Loveland not be a part of it, and I was so
Starting point is 00:22:57 high on him. Yeah, I kind of, he was on my fantasy team. So me and Colson have already had a talk. We said, we'll feature more. We'll get him more targets. And Dune's A too, like, was hampered by a calf all week too. So, yeah. It's great. Love it. I'll go with the smirk.
Starting point is 00:23:14 And I just think it's kind of like Justin Jefferson's finally getting what I feel like he deserves. And like he's kind of showing the league like, I'm still here. I was telling Garrett, he ran a crossing route and caught a ball and got popped. And it was one of those ones you think he's going to be a little slow to get up. But he popped right back up because he was all about the action.
Starting point is 00:23:34 You can tell he is hungry. It's a prove it year for Justin Jefferson. And if I'm a, if I'm Carson Wentz, I get to the top of my drop. I'm looking for one eight. 100% foremost. I know that much. That last touchdown he scored when he went full elevation in order to get to the pile on.
Starting point is 00:23:49 Like that was just, that was a thing of you. I was so happy to see that. I love that one. Yeah, you want to run through a wall when you see one of your teammates do that too. Yeah, I want to run through the wall when I see Justin Jefferson do that and I'm not even on the team, but like in my hard time.
Starting point is 00:24:01 Well, you want to run through a wall when peanut M&Ms are available too. There's a lot that gets you to run through a wall. They're nearby. She was messaged me in the airport yesterday. Did you band her safely, by the way? I did. Watching Red Zone with a bag of peanut Eminem and M&M.
Starting point is 00:24:14 That is a dangerous game to play. Yeah. She's going to go grab them. Look at this. You don't want to know what else is kind of like smirk to me. Oh, that's a share bag, too.
Starting point is 00:24:23 You'll not tell a lie. Yeah. A party size. Didn't share. The other, the other, the other, like, mind-blown emoji you could use
Starting point is 00:24:33 is T.J. Watt. That guy's an animal. That play. He's an absolute and insane. When, like, talk about, like, just a family with genetics. I mean,
Starting point is 00:24:42 yeah. He might be better, like, is he better than JJ? Like, he's crazy. He's so good. Yeah, he's so good.
Starting point is 00:24:49 That play, too. you're getting chopped down right there on the back out, and that ball's a missile, and he goes up just high points at like he's a 12-year veteran tied in, like he's Tony Gonzalez. Then he sidesteps attack. I'm pretty convinced that guy could do whatever he want. If he was a marketing, he could work in New York stock.
Starting point is 00:25:05 That guy's just uber talented. Apple doesn't fall too far from the tree. Action back on me. Let me think what I want to do here. You could be anxious about Dan Campbell's job. Yeah, you think that's in question? That feels in place. I mean, they won.
Starting point is 00:25:19 Well, you know, he's an intense guy. He's an intense guy And look again I just feel like you got to there's got to be I feel like we we We don't keep the people accountable That need to be held accountable sometimes And like
Starting point is 00:25:32 You cannot give up a 21 point Yes they won and that's credit to the fact that You know Kelland didn't he went for two And the fact that the NFL changed On a passing completion on a quarterback And they didn't have the scoop and score converted But I do think like the time is like it's one of those things with Dan Campbell. Is he a great coach? Yeah, but like, don't you want to
Starting point is 00:25:55 see results? And he hasn't, he's done great regular season results. And in the postseason, he has gotten zero results. So to me, it's like, I'm a little anxious about that. Sure. They're kind of a buffalo of the NFC a little bit. And Buffalo made a parallel. They had to make a change. Sure. I'm going to go with the surprise emoji. And I'm going with the amount of points just overall scored on offense there in week one. And I heard a good argument for this on the Sunday night football crew. Jason Garrett was sitting there talking, and I love Jason Garrett. It's the Ivy League in them that when he talks, you listen.
Starting point is 00:26:30 But Jason was mentioning the fact that these teams are just not running full, padded practices the way they were even 10 years ago, a decade ago. You're not tackling in practice. Do you think that's as big a part of the offensive explosion? Because generally speaking, you know, the football that I know and love growing up, generally it was the defense who had the heads up early in the year before the offense got, whether it was more stuff implemented or whatever it may be. But it was kind of roll reversal this year where defenses that we have expectations for
Starting point is 00:26:57 were kind of no call, no showing. Yeah, a lot of points, which as a football fan, I love it. You loved it. Yeah, it was fun to watch. But I do agree with you that I think they, like, oftentimes good defenses set the tone on the offenses. And I think this first opening weekend, it was the opposite. Like the offenses were just rolling out.
Starting point is 00:27:15 out there, be like, we have our playbook right. You guys are the ones that are one step behind on all these snaps and plays. So that makes sense. And I mean, the preseason isn't going to get longer again. Let's be honest, it's probably only going to get shorter. Like, I don't know what the solution is here, but maybe we just, we just always welcome the fireworks in week one of the NFL season. Fair.
Starting point is 00:27:33 Action back on you, Jamie. Okay. Let's see. I'm going to go with the, I'm going to go with like the melting emoji, like the kind of, because like I always equate that emoji. to kind of like sad and confused and like I just kind of give up. And stressed out. Stressed out.
Starting point is 00:27:52 And that's the Atlanta Falcon quarterback situation to me. Yeah. Because we, it was like, we didn't even have a flare of optimism when Tua was named the starter last week. Like we just were kind of like, great. Thanks for telling us. But we're not sure we feel great about it. Then to have Tua have his back flare up awkwardly, like we're all in our 30s.
Starting point is 00:28:15 We all like awkwardly lay down sometimes. We're like, ooh, that didn't feel quite right. For that to happen to Tua and then to have Cooper Rush be the starter, held his own, honestly, besides the T.J.W. Situation. But I'm just like, guys, what are we doing? Like, we don't have B. Sean. You have Gile Pitts.
Starting point is 00:28:32 Like, this is an offense. Like, you could hang. Just get yourself a quarterback. And I guess maybe are they just buying time until Michael Pennock Jr. comes back? But until then, I'm just going to be the melting emoji. Yeah. Yeah, that's fair. I'll go with the shrug emoji because I don't.
Starting point is 00:28:45 know why the Dallas Cowboys linebackers can't get out of week one without losing a star linebacker to injury. And that's become his MO. I know exactly you're talking about. But it's not just it's literally, it's gone for like 10 years. Like we always lose a star linebacker. Why is that? I don't know. Injury is always part of the game, but doesn't it hurt when you see the sidelines and you see overshone? Oh, he's emotional, man. He knew he knew it was, he tried to work it out. And my mom was asking, do you think that's like, do you think he's gone for the season? I was like, no, this. feels like just like it was a hamstring, whether he, you know, whatever he did to the muscle,
Starting point is 00:29:19 we'll find out. I think it's a strained muscle. That's a kid who just loves football and wants to be out on the field with his boys and when that's taken away. Sad reality. But with that being said, I thought we got out of week one overall fairly healthy from the grand scheme of things. The Cowboys are NFL in general.
Starting point is 00:29:33 NFL in general. Yeah. You know. That's true. There's going to be some bunch and bruises long away, of course. And it wasn't. How about how strange the Miles Garrett thing is out for four weeks? Like, that came, first of all, Aaron Donald doesn't make the trip.
Starting point is 00:29:45 been on Miles Garrett down for four weeks. I hate that. Did the Browns know? Like, is that why they let them go for... Like a Max Crosby situation? Like a Max Crosby situation, yeah. Which Max Crosby played some inspired football, which brings me to my next one.
Starting point is 00:29:59 Genty. Which I'm going to go thinking emoji here. And I'm thinking the Las Vegas Raiders may have a little more something, something to them than in the past. What you look at that? Invested in the veteran quarterback, Kirk Cousins, who I thought managed it pretty much.
Starting point is 00:30:12 I think we got to let him play a good team. Totally. It's kind of like Jacksonville and these other teams. I'll tell you who was a fan of what was going on in Vegas, though, was Ashton Genty. And just the lack of like five defenders being in your own backfield on any given run was nice to see. There was some open. And he is, I'll tell you way, he's a three down back. There's not many of those now in the NFL where that guy, he steps up in pass pro and we'll eat a linebacker.
Starting point is 00:30:36 And you can, you could check it down to him. He's a glorified slot receiver at times. I don't know. Vegas might be closer. Now I'm not saying they're a playoff team by any stretch. imagination, but I think they're trending in the right direction and they have me thinking. That's a good one. That's a good one. That's a good one. I, to put a bow on the, on the Raiders thing is the ultimate truth teller will be in week two because I think the
Starting point is 00:30:58 Chargers play the Raiders in week two. So at least we'll know what happened with both of those teams. You're going to get a desperate Chargers team after the week one let down to. In terms of like figuring out what direction we're going in. I'm going to go with the, I think, I don't know, was called this, the see no evil monkey. I had no idea it was called that. I didn't either. I didn't know that either. I just was always covering my eyes when I wanted to tell somebody but not look them in
Starting point is 00:31:21 the eyes something. And that is to go back to that Lion's Saints game and the, um, the pick six that wasn't off of Jared Goff. And the fact that the NFL now just like have found this rule that apparently none of us knew about and was like, well, hold up. Actually, he and Jared Goff intended for it to be a pass, therefore it is a forward pass. And now you have all these quarterbacks in the NFL who were like, wait a second, like Ryan Fitzpatrick tweeted out something in response to this and was like, I would like all
Starting point is 00:31:50 169 of my interceptions in the NFL nullified because I intended to throw it to a receiver, therefore it's a pass and completion. Like that, that fully wiped a touchdown off the board for the saints. And that's my this because the NFL, I think may have just like stepped in the rule a little bit because now everyone's confused. Yeah. Yeah, that one was really, really weird. I didn't understand that. Even after, like, I forgot who came on. It was Dean Beldeno, one of the, one of the experts or something. And they talked around in circles, and the play-by-play guy for that game was like,
Starting point is 00:32:19 there you have it, a good explanation. I'm like, wait, that left me asking more questions. What do we mean good explanation? I'm under the impression, whether the hands going forward or not, the ball goes backwards, the lateral. I was right there with you. It stunned me. That stunned me.
Starting point is 00:32:32 That's stunning. And I still don't comprehend it. It's just one of those things, those situations we were like, please don't ever have this come up again. I don't even want to have to deal with it. Can we just play regular, like, basic football and just move forth and not go into, like, the subchapter title 972.B to the rule book? I don't want to hear it.
Starting point is 00:32:48 Right. I think the NFL's probably wiping their brow thinking the exact same thing. Because if you have that, say, Wild Card Weekend, all of a sudden, you got tuck rule 2.0 type implications going on. You know what I mean? So, yeah, I still would like to sit down with the, I don't think I'm going to get it with the NFL higher-ups, but I'd love to sit down 30-minute chat on why that was an incomplete pass. Garrett, you got one more in you? I still don't understand commentators.
Starting point is 00:33:11 So I'm going to go raised brow here. I don't understand commentators when, like, you clearly see what's happening. So, like, I'm going to reference the Kyler Murray thing. And we're, and literally it's a vicious, vicious hit. And everyone can see that he, I forget the terminology, but when the hands clinch up, like he was knocked out. Yeah, fencing. He was definitely, it was clinched things.
Starting point is 00:33:36 And Nancy, Lance Lee. literally is like, oh, and look, he's holding his knee and, you know, hopefully everything's going to be fine. I'm like, what are we? Are we watching the same game? Like, I don't understand at all. And you hear JJ over there, poor JJ. I got to, like, and he's just like, clearly wants to be like, oh, oh, and then the
Starting point is 00:33:55 Achan commentator who was talking about E. I'm like, why are you calling him the wrong name? Oh, it was, they were calling Travis E.T.N. A. And I'm like, what are we doing? No, that he changed the pronunciation of his name. He changed a pronunciation of his name. name because when he went from the Jags to the Saints he is like a Louisiana boy at heart
Starting point is 00:34:12 he went out no way that's literally it he went out with the Saints it was like wow so no that's how I say my name now yeah he he he he's fullest Travis Achan like that's and he was like I never was like proud and loud enough about how to pronunciate my name correctly that like he never corrected anybody in the Jacksonville me market so let me say so let me say junior then because he's a junior right he is so you got to say A Chan Jr. yeah it's that's it's It's messy because of Devon A-chan in Miami, which should be A-Chain because that's the coolest name ever, but that's neither here nor there. Also an Aggie, I believe. He is.
Starting point is 00:34:51 He is an Aggie. That's a real one, okay? And then because I know that announcer came out and, like, you know, clarified it on social media because I think everyone was annoyed, but, like, he really did. The player came out and said, like, I change it. I did not know that. That's crazy to me. Yeah. I think Kenny Albert was on the call.
Starting point is 00:35:07 He would probably throw an emoji right back at you. He'd be like he'd see the Cino Evil Monkey or the Tondi or the nostrils with smoke coming out. Nostrils with smoke coming out because I was thinking the same thing. That's a fair thing. That's a fair thing to do. You put yourself out there just as much. And apparently he was like inspired by going back to Louisiana and his native roots and being like, you know what? I'm back home now.
Starting point is 00:35:28 I want to make sure I honor the way might and this is how you actually say it. So that, yeah. But on the Nance thing real quick, I will say this about TV. monitors and how those guys call the booth and they're from. I actually, I forget which side of the field it was on. Like, if that play was happening like away from Nance, like, he is on the full blown opposite side of the field. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:35:51 If you're looking at it live is what you're saying. Yeah. And so it's like, it's tough because those announcers. So you're saying they don't look at monitors. No, no, no. They watch it live. They watch the field. Oh, then that makes.
Starting point is 00:36:03 I thought you're looking at a monitor right there. And I'm like, dude, it's clear. It's clear as day. this is not like, I would give, I always give them a pass on their first comment because that to me is what they're watching on the field. They're watching it live. Yes. The second they go to the monitor, exactly.
Starting point is 00:36:18 Then I feel like, then hopefully they change their tune. But I'm, I feel like I'm just burying your arguments. I'm so sorry. I just like, that's, that's, no, it's injuries are hurt. It's, it's, but it's things like that, which I, I do feel like all of us get so, uh, everyone thinks they could be a great commentator. Like, tough to. The couch.
Starting point is 00:36:37 commentator. Yeah. You know, like, and they bag Tony Romo. They bag all these new guys of like, man, they're horrible. They don't know what they're talking about. Yeah. But watching it live's different than watching a screen that you're like two feet away from. Totally.
Starting point is 00:36:48 You're so far. Some of the way the stadiums are built. You're far. You're so far. I definitely thought you would be watching monitors. No, no, no. And they have spotters. They have binoculars.
Starting point is 00:36:58 There's like a whole system with charts and boards. And they're like tapping the guy and showing them. We'll tackle. It's like it's an art form up there. Wow. I'm going to finish mine off. with the party emoji. And this one is just partying because whether you get curbstomp by Garrett in fantasy football,
Starting point is 00:37:14 whether your Cowboys lose, big picture. I got to watch nine and a half hours of football on my couch, uninterrupted. I had a party with Scott Hanson and we had the best time. Football's back and that's a reason for celebration. And there's still so much to figure out. That's the beauty of it. Of course, week one, come Monday in the days to follow, there's overreactions galore. but just the fact that it's back in its full glory,
Starting point is 00:37:39 props to the NFL for being the NFL. We love it for good reason, and we love you, Jamie, and we're thankful you're around. And you're going to be around for weeks to come, I hear, huh? I think let's make this a thing, you guys. Jamie, how do you watch, how do you watch, like, do you have like nine screens going? Or do you watch Red Zone?
Starting point is 00:37:55 Okay, so I have three screens going. I have Red Zone going at all times. And actually, sometimes I do the multi-view on Red Zone. So I have Red Zone. up in one square, then I have three actual broadcasts going in the other squares. So effectively, if I can see someone visually without the audio, like, on a good drive and I want to understand the context better, like per the broadcasters, I'll flip my audio over so I listen to, like, let's say Josh Allen on like a 90-yard drive. Then I'll go back to Red Zone so I can like just
Starting point is 00:38:26 be listening to the scoring or for injuries or anything. And then I got my computer in front of me. And then I'll probably have my phone doing something. But like, to your point, Sparky, like God just technology as a whole. Yesterday I flew from Orange County to Kansas City by way of Dallas and like I don't think I missed a snap. So like, didn't miss a snap. Didn't miss a snap.
Starting point is 00:38:45 It's beautiful. It's beautiful. What a script you have going. It's like an offensive play caller there. Right. You have the whole script. We're going to draw on first. Then we're going to go over in quad box here.
Starting point is 00:38:56 Screenplay. There's an art form. That's awesome. Yeah, there is an art form. Before we let you go, do you have a week two hot take prediction or emoji you want to hand out before we get into week two. Bill's Lions. It's Lions at Bill's in the new building.
Starting point is 00:39:12 So that's like going to be prime video like the whole they're going to throw a huge party. There's a big documentary coming out called Building Buffalo that you can see on NFL network first and then you're going to watch the game on Thursday night. I fear for the Lions this week because I think Buffalo escaped a game with the Texans on the road this week, which good for them. But I think when they get home in front of their. fans in that new building, like, I think they're going to be incensed with, like, they are going to dominate the lions.
Starting point is 00:39:40 So, like, that's my hot take for quick turnaround. Lions are limping. Bills are feeling themselves after they beat the Texans. There's my early take on Wicham. Well, I'll throw one more emoji out there. I'll go with the skull emoji for Bill's Mafia, home opener, 1 and 0 night game. There's going to be some people jumping off RVs doing people's elbows. Yes, or the bandage emoji.
Starting point is 00:40:00 For Bill's mafia. Yeah, the bandage emoji is probably in place. For sure. Well, thank you, Jamie, so much. We'll talk to you next week. Do it again next week? About all the week to action. Yes.
Starting point is 00:40:10 Safe travels back from Kansas City and be careful with those burn ends. School. Thank you so much, Jamie. Until next week. Everybody give it up again. Jamie Erdall. Best in the biz. Thumbs up emoji.
Starting point is 00:40:23 I've been talking a lot about the newly designed Chrysler Pacifica for the last few weeks because I've been looking for a great family car and it checks all the boxes. But this week, you finally test drove it. What do you think, Sparks? This car really does have it all, gee. It's a smooth ride and it's got a sleek design, but I couldn't get over all the awesome features inside. Hold on, Sparky.
Starting point is 00:40:49 Are you saying you might be a minivan guy? That's what I'm saying, gee, I might be a minivan guy, but this isn't just any minivan because it's NSFW. But you don't mean that it's not safe for work. You mean that it has numerous safety features within. And thank goodness it does because Cody took me on a test drive and it was the first time I've ever felt safe in a car with him, believe it or not. I love the safety features, but you know what my favorite.
Starting point is 00:41:10 feature is as a parent? The Stowe and VAC has to be. I love it because I can clean up messes the second my kids make them. So no more mystery cookie crumbs all over the back seat. I get it because the Chrysler Pacifica has way more than just safety features. I love the Pacifica's Stow and go seating and storage systems so I can customize it to fit my sisters and their whole families or I can fit all of our equipment for a shoot. That's right. So when I take Owen to soccer, I can fit his whole team. Or I can flatten the second and third row seats to fit all of their equipment in there. Take it for a test drive and find out if you're a minivan guy too. Check out the newly designed Chrysler Pacifica at Chrysler.com. This episode is brought to you by booking.com.
Starting point is 00:41:50 I am so excited that football is back. Gee, I'm definitely going to go to a lot of Cowboys home games this year. And I've been thinking about going to some away games too. But finding a good hotel near the stadium can be an absolute nightmare. Finding a great place to stay on game day is tough unless you use booking.com. Wherever you decide to go, it's easy to find and book the right stay with booking.com. Booking.com is the key, Garrett. I was thinking of going to Philly to see us crush the Eagles. And I know booking.com can help me find a great hotel with easy access to the stadium and to see some of the great American history there. There is tons to see in Philadelphia and booking.com can help you find a hotel in the middle of it all. Are you going to check out the
Starting point is 00:42:31 Liberty Bell? Eh, that depends. I'm going to follow the map on the back of the Declaration of independence and see where it tells me to go. That was just a movie, Sparky. Doesn't mean it's not true, G. Do what I'm going to do and go on. Book that trip. It's easy. Booking.com. Booking.
Starting point is 00:42:45 Yeah. Welcome back to Almost athletes. Let's talk some college football, dude. The more than merry or football fever, baby. Let's just start. Let's start in the G5s. Okay. Because I know you like that.
Starting point is 00:43:04 Your boys had a pretty monster win. Big time. Like UNLV was We talked about it last week I mean they're a good team You knew I was nervy about this game A little anxious given the fact that you go Indiana straight into UNLV it wasn't Denton
Starting point is 00:43:20 But yeah you make a good point UNLV on paper the darlings in the mountain west Supposed to win that And it was just one-sided affair there And Denton 44 to 6 couldn't even imagine that on the greatest I missed last week's pod So we didn't get to touch on it Yeah but the scoreboard
Starting point is 00:43:34 I think doesn't do you just Justice versus Indiana. Not even remotely. How gained them, Gary? And I think Indiana would say, like, they're a good team. Signetti's postgame conference went right there. He said it was a disservice that that final score was that way. Because, like, people are going to look at that and be like, oh, so there's two things on that.
Starting point is 00:43:54 I think I was wrong on Indiana. I think they're the real deal. I think they're really good. I think North Texas has a real good shot, just like Boise State to go out there and and prove something this year. But this win here, you had to get it done. There's a tone set of right. First game. You can't go 0 and 2 and have any shot at a playoff.
Starting point is 00:44:15 And like losing the luster of last year's 12-win season would have really hurt our fan base losing this week. And props to the peeps who went out there, it was 105 degrees. That game kicked off at 2.45. And those UNLV boys, I told the administration that I was there with go up two scores today and they will want out of here. So they'll roll over and they did.
Starting point is 00:44:31 They laid down. So on Texas State next week, but you're a good point by you. Control our own destiny in terms of the group of six right back in the playoff picture, which is really cool. But one week at a time, one week at a time. Texas, man, that was insane. It was offensive malpractice for the first three quarters. It looked a lot like Arch from a year's past there for three quarters.
Starting point is 00:44:50 They weren't really moving the ball. He had sub 100 yards passing. And then, boom, something flipped. And the horns come rallying back. 21 unanswered in the fourth. What did you think, there? I mean, congrats. Look, this team is, like I said, I pick both these teams.
Starting point is 00:45:06 play for a national championship in four months or whatever that is. So like, it didn't matter who was going to win this game. To me, I think they're both that good. I think a little bit of, of, uh,
Starting point is 00:45:17 oh, of, of, of, of, like, what you just, I think OSU just, I think they gassed out,
Starting point is 00:45:22 man. I think it's still, I don't care if it's 8 p.m. It's still 100 degrees, probably 115 on that turf field. I think they gasped out. Texas, Texas is used to it.
Starting point is 00:45:33 They, that, you know, they had, they probably you're a little, bit deeper of a roster that were able to rotate guys in like the double running back system for Texas
Starting point is 00:45:41 that showed later in the game. I mean Hollywood, like they're just they brought it. They're deep, dude. Brown and in Hollywood, they're so good. Texas is good. I still think Arch has got to, if Arch can progress like he did last year and how he started very slowly
Starting point is 00:46:00 and then he ended probably the best quarterback in the nation. If he does that, I don't think I don't think you're touching Texas this year. I just think they're too, they're too deep. But again, I was talking to my brother's NFL. I mean, college football is more like NFL now than it ever was. You can lose a game like this if you're Ohio State and be totally fine.
Starting point is 00:46:24 This is about getting better. This is about playing the competition and knowing like, dude, you just went into Austin in their place and you can argue that you lost it for yourselves. Right. Like you didn't, you can argue that. did you beat yourselves on this? Some lucky things happened your way, but some lucky things happened for them too.
Starting point is 00:46:40 And that's football. And so I don't want to hear from either side, oh, we were unlucky here, we were lucky here. Like it was kind of even. Like at the end of the day, they came out on top. Yeah, my opinion, though,
Starting point is 00:46:51 safe to say you are in the same boat that my opinion on these two teams doesn't change whatsoever. They're both extremely elite. They're both playoff teams. And you may have hit it straight on the head, Garrett. I think we could see a rematch down the line, whether that's in a quarter,
Starting point is 00:47:02 semi or final. No one knows how good Georgia is yet. They haven't really. played the team. I will say this. The national media gives teams like LSU a huge bump. They played Clemson, who barely beat Georgia Southern. Yeah, they're down bad. They're down real bad. And we played Missouri State and Gooseggnum, you know, 50-0. We fell two spots in the rankings, and they bumped, and they bumped because the prestige win. And so I'm like, okay, if you want to talk prestigious wins here, LSU goes and plays Louisiana Tech, who's done nothing, and they
Starting point is 00:47:34 struggled. We played a playoff team from two years ago in Arizona State and beat the brakes off of them when it mattered. So like, are we going to talk about prestige? Are we going to talk about current results on the field? I think they give teams like, I think Texas goes into LSU and beats them by, and beats them by
Starting point is 00:47:53 35 points. Yeah. I think when Aggies go to LSU, it's going to be a game, but I'm not as high on the Aggies as some people are. Right. Like I don't think we're quite there. I think we are very much like in the LSU realm of like we don't know what we have. I think Texas is significantly better than a lot of people that when it comes to the polls like the AP poll stuff, you, it's like I don't know, you got to have some kind of secret sauce to figure that out
Starting point is 00:48:19 like an Ivy League degree because it makes no sense to me. I'm not taking it away from like what Oklahoma State did because that's the Oklahoma State we both thought was going to show up week one. Yes. Yeah, we laid an egg. Yeah, I did call this. Definitely knew they were vulnerable, especially after the loss. I knew they would bounce back with a good week of practice. But again, even for Oregon, their season is not over. Oh, it's completely not.
Starting point is 00:48:37 It's like you still have big games left on your schedule. But what a monumental win for the Pokes. Cowboys, 21 straight games they have lost against FPS competition. I'm going to make a bold prediction. I like doing that here. Yeah. I think Drew Mestemaker might be the first quarterback drafted in this year's class. I don't think you're wrong.
Starting point is 00:48:55 And Drew, I know he's a fan of the show. I actually messaged him Saturday. He fired me a message back. He still likes everything North Texas, like Instagram-wise, which I completely love. But I told him, when he's on Sunday night football, it's got to be Drew Messermaker, North Texas. I told him that.
Starting point is 00:49:11 He has an absolute cannon of an arm. He's so quick. You know his player comp is? Especially after Saturday, watching, he's going to use his legs more. Josh Allen? He wears the same number, dude. Josh Allen. He's got some Josh Allen.
Starting point is 00:49:24 He's a big old boy who can scoot and then just has a rocket for a right arm. To me, he might be the sleeper in this draft. I'm with you. And I'm not saying that just because I know. the guy, like, he can, he can sling it, dude. He can play. And then we had Michigan upset Oklahoma.
Starting point is 00:49:39 Yeah, that one was weird, given the fact that Michigan, you know, of course, got the extra second to top western Michigan. Then they come out and look like a completely different football team. You know, what's crazy is the player comes between Matier and Marcel Reed are pretty insane. Like, electric QBs that when they're on, no one, no one can stop them. But, dude, when they're off, they are so bad. like they're just very average quarterbacks when they're just slightly off.
Starting point is 00:50:07 They rush things, they try to throw it 400 miles an hour instead of just like floating a pass in. Yeah. They're very comparable. Oklahoma, Texas A&M are very comparable, similar teams. And so Michigan, they got a good defense, dude.
Starting point is 00:50:21 That was never in question. Their offense is still in question. Right. Bryce Underwood still has a lot to prove. The beauty of it is, dude, we're only in week two. It feels like we should be like in the middle of conference play in one sense
Starting point is 00:50:31 and then it also feels like, You got look at the guys like BYU, BYU looks really good. Yep. Like there's so much football left that no one knows. If they say this is going to be, no one knows anything on where these teams are going to be in 10 weeks. And I think that's partly NIL. It's all in. It's created so many questions marks.
Starting point is 00:50:51 You can't walk into a team now and be like, we're going to kill these guys. Like there's some dogs on every team. Every single team. And as wide open the NFL is, we talked about that. College football equally is wide open. So much to play for. and that is the beauty of it, brother. But any surprises on your top 25?
Starting point is 00:51:07 Not yet. Nothing crazy. Oh, I will say, Mississippi State looks like a problem. Yeah, not many people were talking about. I want to say they were a double-digit pick preseason and the SEC kind of just like a... I'm so glad. I don't think A&M plays him this year, thankfully, because that quarterback kid is ridiculous.
Starting point is 00:51:27 They sling it around. They throw it around the yard too. And maybe it a really good Minnesota team. team. Like, they not only beat them. Embarrassed it was 3813. Yeah, I took it to them too. That's a game you're so thankfuls early in the year and not in Minnesota late in the year. I haven't really been, you haven't
Starting point is 00:51:42 really seen what USC can do yet. They haven't really played anybody. They've given up some points. I know they shut out Fresno, but the other two games like Lafayette kind of moved on them. Houston looks really good. Houston looks great. Seeing somebody's got to win the Big 12 and Texas Tech has kind of looked a little spoty here and there. I'm with you. BYU, I mentioned before the season started. They were kind of like my hidden
Starting point is 00:52:01 Watch out as much as this is why I love that the ASU's coach. Dillingham, he's great coach. Like stats, if you look at the stats, they beat us up and down. They beat us in the line of scrimmage. They beat, I mean, ASU beat the Aggies. And it's like, and he's like stats are for losers, you know, like, we lost that game. We got, we can't be, we got to be better. But dude, they are a well-coached football team.
Starting point is 00:52:26 Watch out for the, watch out for the sun Devils because they're going to be a problem for all big 12 teams. That was one that probably the score doesn't indicate. Oh, well, we had two pick sixes. The special teams of malpractice, too, where they muffed the punt on the five-yard line. So it's 21 points. Take 21 points out that board, and that game is very, very close. Tight, that's a good point. So, no, the score got way out of hand.
Starting point is 00:52:48 And I also think our depth on our roster, we were rotating guys in. They just didn't have the debt. Same overall depth. It was 185 degrees on Saturday. And once again, the second half, that's when that really shows. I was outside watching the game. because my kids had soccer and I almost passed out just watching it. I was telling my mom, being on the sidelines at the North Texas game,
Starting point is 00:53:07 I had about four bottles of water and I had just a little hint of a calf cramp. Not playing, just standing on the sidelines. I started cramping. It's almost dangerous what we do to these kids for some enjoyment for us. Yeah. It's a little too hot to play football on a turf field in Texas at 158 degrees. I mean. In one sense, we love it that way.
Starting point is 00:53:27 And another, it's a dangerous game. Yeah, like it takes one of these. you know, like, dude, I'm out on the soccer field and my kid has a 2 o'clock game. And I'm like, what are we doing, dude? Is this punishment? This is supposed to be fun. Like, this is, all this takes is for one of these kids
Starting point is 00:53:43 to have a medical something. And like, this is not going to be good for anybody involved. Like, we take lightning seriously. Why don't we take 158 degrees seriously? Sounds like a good ramp right there, Jared. I'm telling you. So. The Texas heat is different.
Starting point is 00:53:58 And, you know, as much as I, you know, I'm doing better this year. I got a long ways to go on the referees. But you've noticed it. You've acknowledged it. But I will say, I will say they are sacrificing their bodies
Starting point is 00:54:14 refereeing 10 year old, 10 and under soccer on a Saturday and 100. For the love of the game. The love of youth sports. So I'm trying not to be like, dude, you missed a clear offside there, dude. As they're, you know, trying just to survive the heat.
Starting point is 00:54:28 It's not fair to them. But yeah, football's back in a big way. And I'm loving it. Yeah, I mean, I told my wife, it's just, I even joked around with the kids. I was like, dude, I asked mom, this is their favorite time of the year? I just popped on a couch, not moving for eight hours a day. You look at your step count after the week and you're like, dude, 500 steps. Seems low.
Starting point is 00:54:48 Seems low, that. I thought I went to the pantry five times. That should be 5,000 steps. Yeah, it happens fast. Parenting, you get a D-plus, football viewing experience. You get an A-plus, though. It's like, hey, you got a sacrifice one. who gets the kids and get a little sacrifice during football season.
Starting point is 00:55:04 All right, we're going to do some voicemails with the interns around the corner. One last thought. Shout out to the one AP polar who put us number 25. Starting point is 00:59:42 Hey, dudes. Hope you're doing well. Thank you. My name is Pernov. I'm calling you guys from around L.A. And first, I wanted to congratulate Sparky, Garrett, Jared, just everyone involved with all the athletes on the first season. I've loved every single episode. And my question for you guys is,
Starting point is 00:59:56 what do you think the most underrated position in any sport is? For me personally, probably like the O-leinman in football. Do you guys think something else? Just wondering. And thank you. There's different ways to look at this. I think he's asking as like most undervalued. Undervalued.
Starting point is 01:00:13 Like who's the most important without being the low? He means it undervalued. Got you. Not most underrated in like in terms of playing. Because that would be like punter or kicker. Or long snapper. Long snapper holder even. He's saying most underrated position in sports that they don't get.
Starting point is 01:00:28 That like go unnoticed winning championships. Yes, and I think my man from the West Coast was spot on with this one. The Big Uglies do not get credit. You can ask any football coach at any level across America. They're going to tell you that it starts in the trenches both stopping the run and being able to run the football and protect your quarterback. Absolutely. I think you spot on.
Starting point is 01:00:45 Do we have anything else that? I was going to say CDM. They do all the dirty work and get no. Sure. Like Kevin Bruna. Soccer. I mean, Kevin Bronte can literally control the entire game and get no. When you hear CDM, you go Kevin Brina.
Starting point is 01:00:57 I think of him as a central attack. I go, I go, I go Casamiro. Yeah. I go Tyler Adams. No, you're right. I mean, Exactly right, because you're not going to get the glory of the goals. What about hockey?
Starting point is 01:01:07 Is there one in hockey? That's... I'd say you're backup netminder. Because the 82 game season, they're required to play quite a bit. So baseball catcher? Baseball catcher is definitely for the amount of... Squatting.
Starting point is 01:01:20 Squatting and foul tips off the mass. I'm saying catchers don't really get the glory. They're there doing a lot. They're calling the whole game. It's a good one. Relief pitchers. even would be on the list for me, but I think he absolutely nailed it with the offensive line. I'd probably agree with you, dude. And appreciate the love. And thanks for listening. Next.
Starting point is 01:01:38 Hey, guys. My name is Kennedy. I'm 16 and I live in Mississippi. And I was wondering, specifically for Garrett, what's it like for your kids to have famous parents? Is it hard for them to make friends because people just want to be around y'all or does it not really matter to them? Thank you. I think for my kids, I mean, it doesn't really, like it's not a big difference in our. Yeah, in your household?
Starting point is 01:02:04 No, not really. I agree. You know, funny story that you asked this, because, number one, I don't really think I'm famous, but I do appreciate it. I took my kid to soccer practice, and it was first time he was trying out for the school team.
Starting point is 01:02:24 And, uh, you had the older kids like where I could hear say you know like dude no one even watches dude perfect anymore and at that moment I was like my kid's gonna get bullied because of me you know so I actually look at it on the flip side of how much is their life going to be because their dad is like this kind of you know and I get it YouTuber like you can kind of put fun at public figure's fair to say and uh and like that people people are polarized against and how much is he going to get made fun of versus like how
Starting point is 01:02:59 their their life is they live a pretty good life so i wouldn't say it's uh it's hard but they are going to have the little bit of they're going to have the bullying little chit chatter uh no it will require patience and you know you have to the chirping it's a dead chirping like me chirping at the refs you know the ref has to put it in one ear let it go the other have you seen the trend where the parents will tell their kids things that boys would say and they have to figure out what they're going to say back. It's my style. No, I haven't.
Starting point is 01:03:30 Like, they like, they like, try to antagonize them. The parents will, like, chirp at the kid and they have to give a comeback. So, like, they're training them for the bullies. Dude, I kind of love that. Graham chirp at Garrett. It would just be, like, typical stuff, like, you're ugly. That's a, at least is my style. But then you have to give me a comeback.
Starting point is 01:03:46 That's a jugular. I mean, honestly, I don't have hair, so I get it. That's pretty good. And that's how you silence the haters right there. You agree with them. Or it's like, Jackson, give me one. You read slow. That's my style.
Starting point is 01:03:58 It's my strategies. I use my strategies. I use my strategies. Yeah, I got to get my kids better, more quick-witted. Should we bring Lincoln and Owen on the show and have me just verbally abuse them for 30
Starting point is 01:04:08 and see how they take it? Yeah. Your dad's washed up. Your dad. Yeah, I think they're going to say a lot of your mom back to you. So they're trained to have a little comeback already.
Starting point is 01:04:17 That's good. But no, good question. I think it's a good answer. I mean, it sounds like your household's killing it, Jack. Would you say that's a double-edged sword, though, Gare? Like, there's going to be some really cool moments off of that when fans of ours come in contact with them,
Starting point is 01:04:32 but then you're also going to have the chitter-chatter, low blows. I would say the cool moments are, like, I mean, again, like, what I say is, I mean, I've been able to live, like, such a blessed life, and we travel all over the world and get to do things that not everyone has the opportunity to do, and they get to travel along and do that as well. So, like, those are the cool moments that get you access into things, which is, like, really cool, but you also have the moments that are going to be tough.
Starting point is 01:04:55 and that's life. Life is not all roses. That's true. Before we move to the next question, I have one follow up to that. Do you reiterate to your kids about like how special 100%?
Starting point is 01:05:08 The circumstances they've fallen into are? Absolutely. And how it's, this isn't like just a gifted life. Like I need you to like be able to read. Like we talked about a couple episodes ago. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:05:20 Sure. By the way. Yeah, I've been reading a ton since then. Good, dude. And that's, good. And so, yeah, I mean, they're gonna, nothing's gonna be given to them. Like, they're gonna have to work for it and earn it and just like we all did. Just like Brony. Is there a leader in like Brony, baby? Just like Brony. Is there a leader in the clubhouse in terms of
Starting point is 01:05:37 who would step into your shoes? Who could, who's most ready to step at the overtime desk right now of your three children? King of the Nepo babies? Me. I kind of think Iris. Really? Yeah. Just because the charm. But she's got a little. She's got like some sass. She has older brothers that she is able to like fight back and say, if, If you come after her, she'd, watch out, dude. I don't even say anything to her. I'm her parent. Next.
Starting point is 01:06:04 That was a good question. Hey, dude, perfect. It's Jackson from Cincinnati. I just got kind of a random question here, but if you guys went on a trip and you had to leave your kids and your entire family with one of the dudes, who would it be? Who would you trust the most to leave your kids with? Yeah, it's, I mean, it's me. trust me. The answer is by far, Garrett,
Starting point is 01:06:27 because he's going to be the most responsible with the kiddos. I am a little heartbroken that it's never even been brought up. Never been asked to babysit. I just want it to be thrown out there. Hey, like, is Sparky an option this Saturday? Not that I would say yes,
Starting point is 01:06:39 because I'm certainly going to say no. Dude, on a random football, on a football Sunday, I'm going to call Fargie's sports, too. If I got a Kristen Hilbert text saying, hey, can you come watch the kids for two hours? Absolutely saying no, but I'd be like, hey, I appreciate the offer, Kristen.
Starting point is 01:06:52 Yeah. So it's not me. If you want your kids to have the most fun Tyler Tyler Or Cody or Cody It depends on if Allison's present If there's no Allison
Starting point is 01:07:03 What kind of fun like Cody has a zoo in his house Tyler is going to teach you how to be a man Yeah You know it's different Joan's gonna have you not riding Or he's gonna have you tubing at 75 miles per hour I'm gonna teach you how to do the If you want to have the most boring day of all time
Starting point is 01:07:16 Go with the Twins But you're gonna be safe You're gonna be extremely safe They're gonna have like life jackets on while they're riding bikes With you don't care about being safe as a kid Dude, it's like there's no body of water. You never know. You never know.
Starting point is 01:07:27 They could drown. Might be a sinkhole here. You're going to learn a lot about the daily habits with me, how you wake up, you make your bed. Yeah, most fond tie, most. Dangerous, Cody. Safe and secure. Twins. Safe and secure.
Starting point is 01:07:44 All around package gear. I'm sending my kids to gear. Good question, no. I haven't already thought of that. What about the interns? Oh, dude. Oh, Grant. I mean, we could, yeah, we could hold down the floor.
Starting point is 01:07:54 Grant. Oh, in terms of interns? Yeah, Blaze. I don't think you're trying to spend on his eyes. I'm comfortable. I love it, dude. Anybody but Brother Nature, to be honest with you. I'm not letting my kid spend a minute with Brone.
Starting point is 01:08:07 Why? I come back fully tatted. Bro Ney's wild, dude. Broane's cray. He's a little craye. He doesn't realize how crazy he is. I mean, to be honest, Ty's kid always asked to have sleepovers at our house
Starting point is 01:08:19 because we have the best house. Could you play Fortnite all night? They can do whatever they want. I mean, that's what you want to like... I mean, this question is being asked from the parents' perspective, not the child's. They can do whatever they want, Jackson says. I mean, they're not going to die.
Starting point is 01:08:33 That's why he's not getting into that. I'm smart enough to, like, not let them play with the stove or the microwave. Well, you said they could do whatever they want. To a certain extent, I'm not going to let them, like, watch stupid stuff on YouTube, but like... I'm like what? Mr. Beast. He said it, not me.
Starting point is 01:08:51 You're not wrong, though. Yeah, there's, I mean... Or you just go no sitter, and that builds character. No sitter. We did no sitter at my house growing up, and that's how I put a phone into the microwave. What age? What age? Electric. I put the phone in the microwave like kindergarten?
Starting point is 01:09:06 How long it lasts? But your sister was... She was there, but not present. She was there, but not... Sixth grade? No. Oldest sister at that time would have been like late middle school or the high school. Yeah, that's enough to leave here.
Starting point is 01:09:16 I personally think the oldest sister should have been responsible. Yeah, she didn't catch me pulling up the chair to the microphone. wave and putting a phone in there. We go down, like, we walk around the park and stuff with, like, we back up to a park. So, like, we go out and walk around and leave the kids at home. Would you consider Jared between me and you act like he's not here? Oh, yeah, for sure. Jerry?
Starting point is 01:09:36 Yeah, absolutely. He's got babysitter material to you? Absolutely. I'm a super uncle. I can take care of things. Yeah, yeah, absolutely, dude. And he's a dog guy. He treats his dog.
Starting point is 01:09:43 See, how do you look at how they treat their animals? Yeah. He treats. Bro, this guy, this dog goes to dog. He's dead care every single day because he doesn't want the dog to stay home alone. Guarantee that dog could describe those words or pronounceing those words better than Jackson can. It knows what an epitome from a couple weeks ago, no doubt. It's got a Harvard education.
Starting point is 01:10:02 Good question. Next. Hey, dudes, it's Maya from Chattanooga, Tennessee. I was wondering, if you could pick any fictional fantasy or video game world to bring to life to make it reality. Yeah. I know exactly where I'm going here. Where are you going, Jacks? A fictional world to bring to life.
Starting point is 01:10:18 Fictional world. This is so easy for me. What is this? So easy. This is Harry Potter, dude. Oh, is it? I want to fly on a broomstick so bad. That would be legit.
Starting point is 01:10:27 Okay, video game does change it. It does. No, I'm not. Harry Potter, I want to fly on a broom. And run through walls and stuff. Yeah, or like just, uh, I just, you know, to get from here to London and just little, little spell would be great. Only thing is, I don't think you'd have a filter on your spells.
Starting point is 01:10:45 You'd just be turning Jones into a chicken on a random Tuesday. Oh, definitely, definitely. I would probably be loose with the, with the cruxes. You're gay, do you see Amy from upstairs? She's a chicken. I turned her to a chicken. I'm like Garrett, we've got to quit casting spells. Definitely, Fortnite.
Starting point is 01:10:59 I just want to feel what a top two situation feels like in real life. I want a sky base. I want to go land tilted towers and just knock down 10 people in a row, crank some 90s, box them on like a fish. Box them like a fish. I've got one. Zero PR. Okay, what about you?
Starting point is 01:11:16 I think I'd go Harry Potter, too. It's a hard. It's a hard question, though, because. It's so lame. If you pick like Marvel and you live in New York, you're getting slimed out all the time. Why is it always New York? Dude, if you choose like... Batman's even in New York.
Starting point is 01:11:30 You choose Batman, you're living in Gotham. Like, that's a worst city in the world. And you're probably not going to be Batman if you live in that universe. Like, what are the chances of me becoming magical? Hopefully Harry Potter. But maybe you just get stuck in Slythering and fail out. Yeah, what about you, Sparks? I think I would love to hoop with Bugs Bunny, Elmer Fudge.
Starting point is 01:11:48 Space Jam, man. That'd be really cool to hoop with that group. Tasmanian devil at my three. You got bugs, you know, filling it up in the point guard position? Did you watch Steph Curry's goat? Goat movie, yeah. I liked it.
Starting point is 01:11:59 It was really good. You know, space jam vibes, but I actually, I thought it was great. Better than Space Jam 2. Who? Oh, what if Airbud was real? Everyone always says, why MJ? That's based on the true story. Airbud?
Starting point is 01:12:09 Yeah. That guy averaged 15 a night, dude. He's real? I'm trying to see that. That to me is the debate on MJ versus LeBron. Everyone's like, like, Space Jam alone. Space Jam alone.
Starting point is 01:12:21 Space Jam won significantly better than Space Jam too. It's a good point, Garrett. Yeah. So we figured out a couple things here. Yeah, we did. I thought you were about to say Airbud is like Airbud is above MJ or a little bit.
Starting point is 01:12:31 No, gosh, no. I love cold retrievers. So good question, though. How's going? Athletes playing from West Texas. West Texas. I was wondering if y'all could
Starting point is 01:12:42 remove and add a new rule to the NFL, what would it be? For me, I would say bring back the leverage, which you can use that as a remove an ad. But another one would be the celebration content. So let me know what y'all would do. NFL gets, I mean, they still let you celebrate to an extent.
Starting point is 01:13:07 To an extent. I mean, the one of college football, the one of college football. That duty literally just did first down and he gets 15. Well, what you didn't see is he went double throat slash to her first. That'll get you. Can't throw it slash. Yeah, I only saw the first down. I didn't see the double-throat slash.
Starting point is 01:13:23 I've got one. Add one rule. What do you got? I can't believe more NFL teams don't do this, actually, pushing the ball downfield because there's three outcomes. It's either going to be incompletion.
Starting point is 01:13:34 It's going to be caught or there's going to be a flag. I guess it could also be intercepted. But the spot foul for PI is a little extreme for me. You can throw a 55-yard pass in the air and a guy accidentally get twisted around. A 55-yard penalty for a little PI is a little too much.
Starting point is 01:13:48 I'd rather them do the, the 15 yards, all-a-colle, instead of the spot fell. I love that. That would be mine. Just because I've been burned here, and yeah, I get it. You don't want to spot your own ball. But in the under two minutes, I feel like the refs take their time. I would love to just be able to hike that sucker.
Starting point is 01:14:05 When the teams are in hurry up and they have to go touch it, it feels so. Remember that happened to DAC? A couple years ago. Yeah, the first of 49ers. You got one play from the 20 to win it if the line judge gets out of the way. That goes into your rank, care. There's one more rule I'd like to see. the enforcement of it be called out more because there's this gray area in regards to RPO's,
Starting point is 01:14:25 which I love RPO's. The run-pass options have taken football by storm over the last five years. They are letting these offensive linemen get down the field a little too far. I wish they'd really hone in on that because when you ride that RPO then pull and you've got your left guard three yards down the football field, it's highly illegal. And I just, I would love for them to throw the flag more on that. It's a good question though. But I agree, P.I. You got to add the P.I. Spot fouls just it's
Starting point is 01:14:49 It's true. College doesn't right on that. College got that rule right. Got it right. Got that rule right. What's up dudes? My name is Dylan from Ogden, Utah. And I have a little
Starting point is 01:15:00 family debate. That's kind of fun. We talk about it every so often. But here's the deal. So my family likes milk. We drink a glass of milk. We finish it. And there's like some residue left at the bottom, right?
Starting point is 01:15:14 The big debate is, if you want some water after, said milk, do you just pour the water straight in? Because then the residue milk makes it all cloudy. Or do you wash the cup so then you can get your water and not have to drink this kind of thin milk in-coction? I would like to let, we'd like to know what you think. Love in the pod. Love you guys. Bye. Yeah. I guess I would ask, would you pour Coke on top of said milk? So were we asking if we just need to get a fresh glass for our cup of water?
Starting point is 01:15:50 He's asking like every cup there's always that little like couple drops at the bottom. Yep. So my thing is, is like, why is you, if you're willing to put water, do you put Coke? But I think milk to water is different than milk to Coke. I agree. Coke has flavoring that's going to punch you. Like if you're getting a little milk in that water, it's like, ooh, there's something wrong. There's a little tinge wrong with this.
Starting point is 01:16:11 But if it's like, you just taste the Coke. But also, who's drinking a lot? glass of milk and then pouring coke in that thing. I understand what you're saying it's going to make the water taste like milk. It becomes corrupted. Yeah. You have to wash it out. Water is easily corrupted. Water. Water has
Starting point is 01:16:28 chlorine and all types of stuff in it already. Especially tap water. Oh, fluoride. But yes to people of Flint, Michigan. Which is why you can, you can taste the small problem. I'm washing it out. Yeah, I'm watching it out. I'm doing a quick little thing, boom, and then put your water in. I, uh, but I'm just too OCD to just pour
Starting point is 01:16:44 water straight in that. It's like a lazy this thing to me. To me, I don't want milk infiltrating my water taste. Yeah. That's the big issue for me. There is water and milk. There's a bunch of water, isn't it? Like, over 50% water. Yeah, it's like people like
Starting point is 01:16:59 whole milk versus skin milk is like mostly like watered down. I just don't know why you can't just do a quick little. Yeah. That's a crazy debate. Never had it in my family. If my kid just yeah, dumped water. I'd probably
Starting point is 01:17:15 question, I'd be like, what are you doing? You could really tell by how like in depth the question was that they definitely got caught up on that at the dinner table one night. That went on for a while. And I'm going to guess the parents are the ones that wash and the kids are not, if I had a guess. Which is incredible how things change as you get older because 14 year old me does not care. I'm putting water on top of that and then I'm finishing my water milk with Coke. You know, as I've gotten a little older, it's like, ah, you don't have to do that. Yeah, you don't have to do that. I agree. That is a interesting question. I like it.
Starting point is 01:17:46 What's up, boys? Caleb from Montana. A lot of an almost athlete moment playing church league softball. He used to be a high school quarterback, so it's pretty good athlete. But yeah, this probably 12 to 14-year-old girl got a hit, and I was playing left center, very shallow, and she finally got it through the infield, and she was running to first, like celebrating because she finally got a hit. My competitiveness chipped in, and I threw this poor little girl out at first from left
Starting point is 01:18:15 center and socially softball felt like the biggest jerk because yeah I just didn't really realize what I was doing just competitiveness kicked in and checked showed off my cannon of an arm so hope you guys are having a good one see you boys that's a lot of true that's fair game that is uh that's crazy uh I don't know what leagues you're playing in either like uh it's not men softball because you said it was a 12 year old
Starting point is 01:18:41 he said church church softball league I mean but there's no age requirement here Oh, no. Yeah, dude, church softball is an FFA. Yeah. I mean, at the end of the day, though, let's just get the facts straight here. You're playing church softball. Everyone agrees to play the game.
Starting point is 01:18:57 Yep. Well, the game entails, you got to run the first base. You do. And you know what? It's a good lesson for the girl. You got to give it your all. It'll look, great hit.
Starting point is 01:19:07 Glad you got it into the outfield. But you got to know what's coming next. And he made a good throw. Filder's choice ground out at the end of the day. Yeah. Like, I mean, you signed up for church softball. We don't want to give just, it's like you play against your kids. This is what I say when I play against my kids.
Starting point is 01:19:23 You want to play against me. You're going to lose. I'm going to beat you. I'm not a dad that's going to be like, oh, cool, man. My 10-year-old kid beat me in soccer is like, no, I'm going to beat you 14 to zero. Just for gratification purposes. You take the L so they can feel. Well, you want to play a game, dude.
Starting point is 01:19:36 You never go like a little softer? I go soft and I still beat them 12 to zero. Wow. With a tech. The Neil Flagrant 1 is the youngest. I've seen. Dude, there's going to come a day where they're going to beat me. Why would I give them that now?
Starting point is 01:19:49 Yeah. You want to play a game and you want to teach competitiveness. Take your ground when you can. Give them a little stuff on. Absolutely. Maybe it's hard to win in life. It's hard to win in life. It's not easy.
Starting point is 01:19:57 Yes, life is not. You don't walk into a job and there's like, hey, dude, you did nothing. Here's a huge race. Maybe it's happened to you. It hasn't happened to me. You got to earn your stuff, dude. Earn your stripes. And the girl got a great hit.
Starting point is 01:20:10 But I also don't feel bad for making an incredible throw. It sounds like. I would have loved the scene. Must have been on a rope. How shallow were we playing in Love Center. And then the whole crowd goes silent. Like, they're all cheering for her head. And again, I mean, now, granted,
Starting point is 01:20:22 I don't think you should probably sit there and, like, do backflips for throwing a 12-year-old girl out. But, I mean, hey, you made a baseball play. I do want to hear the hush of the crowd once he made that to throw. Oh, yeah. Yeah. It's okay to feel bad. I can understand my man feels bad.
Starting point is 01:20:36 I don't mind him feeling bad. At the end of the day, he was just doing what he's called to do. He did his job. He did his job well. You got to find 21 out somewhere. a softball game. They needed an out, you know? Is it only 21 in softball? Seven innings, yeah. Nice pool there, dude.
Starting point is 01:20:50 Thank you. Church softball. Yeah. See some things at church softball. Ben Acosta's really good. My name is Charlie Hicks, and I'm from South Carolina. I'm a youth soccer referee, and in my state, they've implemented a law where if you have a green badge or you're under 18, coaches and parents aren't allowed to speak to you. What do you think about this law, Garrett? personally attach your name to the end of that, Garrett.
Starting point is 01:21:16 I wonder why. Yeah, I mean, I'm a mature adult that can understand I have a problem. Wow. I don't think you should abuse children, but I also don't think you should not be able to speak into children in a plightful way on if they're doing their job badly. And their bosses are not at said game. So how are you going to ask for their manager?
Starting point is 01:21:42 How, yeah, what are you going to do? Is their manager going to be at every game to be like, all right, kids, here's what you did wrong there. You definitely miss this, this, this, this, this. Like, if you can never speak to when it comes to refs? Yeah. Yeah, I'm a Karen when it comes to refs, no doubt. 100%.
Starting point is 01:21:57 He'll admit to that, though. Yeah, I'll admit to it. I got a problem. I'm not willing to say, I don't have a problem. I don't know, I agree, like parents get way over the top and abusive, and you shouldn't say some of the things you say to kid referees who are sacrificing their time. But again, how are they going to learn if they're absolutely garbage at said refereeing?
Starting point is 01:22:15 Sure. What if those kids have aspirations to go be a ref? No, if their bosses at every single game, I'm okay with it. I'm like, okay, just have the boss talk to them. Plus, you want to pour into them when they're doing really well. Like, hey, you did a really good job out there today, ref. You want to be able to say that. The one thing that I do, and you can ask anybody that's around me that knows me,
Starting point is 01:22:35 during the game, ultra-competitive to a nth-degree, probably too competitive. When that game whistle's over, it doesn't matter if it's a competitor or a ref. I always go up to that person and say, hey, man, like, it was during the game, like, didn't even really mean anything, like, sorry for whatever I did or said something. So once the game's over, dude, it's back to just being, we're just civilized human beings. But I'm a competitive person. I mean, he is. I think that's how we've ended up in this situation, too, is like the pool for young referees.
Starting point is 01:23:09 there's not much of it because it's not an advantageous job. Sounds pretty thankless. It's a thankless job for sure. And I think that's how we've gotten to this. But if a referee and said soccer league misses an offside goal and this team loses a championship because the referee didn't do his job and you can't say anything, I think that's, I just feel like that's like,
Starting point is 01:23:29 what are we doing here? Like, why do we even have a referee? Would they say that's the coach's job then? Is the coach allowed to talk to the? No, they said coaches can't even talk. Oh, wow. They said coaches or parents, which, I agree with the parents.
Starting point is 01:23:41 You can say the parents, no talk for all of it. But if a coach can't talk to a ref... Yeah, there should be a representative for each team being able to talk. And just hold that representative for everybody that says something on the team and they get reprimanded. But I don't know. That's a crazy rule. It might actually be good. I don't know.
Starting point is 01:23:57 It would definitely be good for me. I probably speak too much on the sideline. That's our two-minute warning, boys. Anybody have anything? Disgrievances. Jackson, you want to read us anything? you got? Yeah, I mean, I've been reading all day. Yeah, you want to read some of the Iliad you've been reading?
Starting point is 01:24:14 Some Ilya. Oh, my. The Iliad in the Odyssey? Oh, I actually saw the Odyssey at IMAX the other day. Oh, boy. What books have you been reading? Picture books? Hungry, Hungry, Hippo. I don't know. That's a boring, I thought.
Starting point is 01:24:29 You had a boring, dude. Why would I read, bro? Because I asked you, too. It's fine. I read my Bible. That's good. You want to read us something from that? I just want to make sure you can read. John 316.
Starting point is 01:24:40 For God so loved the world that he sent his only child. That if you believed. How about this? Instead of a rant, why don't you just try to read out the show close? Great. Are you sure you got this? Yeah, it looks like our time is up.
Starting point is 01:24:54 If you like this video, here's another one we think you'll enjoy. We'll be back next Wednesday with an all new episode. Pound it, Noggin, see ya. I mean, it's easy. Those are easy. That was great, but you put a,
Starting point is 01:25:06 there was no comma there. Here's another one we think you'll enjoy. That was my brain adjusting. I read a little fast and then reset and then catch up and then go back. Hey, that was pretty good for the first time. All right, this is for real though. Okay.
Starting point is 01:25:18 This is the show closed. So looks like our time is up. If you like this video, here's another one. Let me do it again. It's all right. Okay, I got nervous. Looks like our time is up. If you like this video, here's another one you think...
Starting point is 01:25:30 One more time. Looks like our time is up. If you like this video, here's another one we think you'll enjoy. We'll be back. next Wednesday with an all new episode. Found it, Noggin, see ya. Psychologist, Poseidum, Topography.
Starting point is 01:25:43 Bang! Quit it, quit it, quit it. Cut, cut. Shoot it in him. Oh. Almost. Wave.
