Starting point is 00:00:00 I see guys before the game shaking hands. I'm like, I didn't shake hands. I didn't become friends with Peyton Manning until after our careers. And I was mutually, the respect was off the charts. But like, I didn't want to see guys that I competed against as friends. Welcome to Almost Athletes with Dude Perfect, a Wave original. We're your host. And yes, you guys are right.
Starting point is 00:00:36 We brought Cody for a little way in action. Dude, I shouldn't have preface little there for a big way in. Well, you know, part of me was like, I'm in the podcast again. That might mean that I'm funny or cool. And then I saw the scale and I realized, oh, I'm just here to be laughed at. Oh, you're just the butt in a joke. So I'm not going to lie to you. The room, the room feels a little different.
Starting point is 00:01:00 Does it? You, uh, you had a big, you had a big time guest that you pre-filled an interview for. The goat, Tom Brady. Over the weekend, which shockingly, he doesn't like being called the Go. goat referred to. Oh, that's a great problem to have, you know. Nobody calls me the goat, but if they did, I sure as heck wouldn't have. The penguin.
Starting point is 00:01:17 Well, I don't know about all that. Well, you wear it every day. So here's the deal, codes. I'm not going to lie. We were debating. Should we start with the, should we start with Tom Brady interview right off the bat? And the overwhelming consistency from the people is like, no, no, no, no, no. They want the way in right off the bat with code, yo.
Starting point is 00:01:36 So let's get to it. Okay, hold on. Can I give a little bit of. Preference. Like some, you're saying like, preface. We'll let you get into it. We'll let you get into it. All I was going to hit on was my two-year-old had his two-year-old birthday this weekend.
Starting point is 00:01:51 So there was a cake involved. You didn't have to eat the whole cake, but I didn't eat the whole thing because I have four kids. So they had a couple pieces each. And then we went to the zoo, ate a lot there. Did you go to the fair too? And then I didn't go to the fair, but I did watch the Aggie game. And it was high stress, late night game. You're a stressy end.
Starting point is 00:02:10 So you're a door dash. This is quite the stretch. What is your door dash? Shake, Jack. With a shake. Oreo. Oh, you don't have to go with shake. Now, mind you, I've been doing my sauna squats.
Starting point is 00:02:22 So I'm fit. All right. You know what? Hey, let's let the scale do the talking. Let's let the scale do the talking. Hey, and don't worry about we might have just gotten off launch where Cody ate two lunches. I went to salatas. I was like, you know what?
Starting point is 00:02:36 I think they're going to make me weigh it in today. So I went and got a salad with Allison. and then I get back to the office, and they've bought Chick-Flay for everybody. Yeah, it's all hands. How do you say no to that? I first of all, I literally asked them, like, I'm so confused.
Starting point is 00:02:48 When we're filming, we don't buy lunch. When we're not filming, we're buying lunch. Very inconsistent. What are we doing here? And they're like, oh, we got all hands today. I'm like, I'm out. So here's what happened to me. I see the sugar cookies left over,
Starting point is 00:02:59 obviously from the week before. Grab one with my box lunch. Yeah. Finish the box lunch. There's a cookie in the bottom. I got to eat both. My mind already thought sugar, this one's chocolate chip, I gotta do a double day.
Starting point is 00:03:11 So you feel like you're taking one for the team. You feel like you're selfless and all your acts here. Yeah, I just feel like I'm a victim. I'm a victim of my environment. Well, yeah. Yeah, I guess. We're not judging you here, by the way. This is a non-judgmental.
Starting point is 00:03:24 We're actually excited about your weight journey. Okay. We have been pressing us. Dude, do not take this as like. Here's what I'll say. This might be the heaviest I'll ever be because I did watch back our three-point competition. Yeah. Me versus you.
Starting point is 00:03:37 Did you hear your breathing? It was the. breathing. I thought the extra large Lulu Lemon hid some of the fat. It did not. It exposed me for what I am and it made me think, you know what? I should probably start running or doing something different. Well, that was a couple weeks ago. Have
Starting point is 00:03:50 we started running? Oh, absolutely not. I just saw the episode. Got it. Yesterday. See, you're painting us out to be the bad guys. When in reality, we are so close to you that we're willing to tow that line and say, hey, codes, it's time. I mean, dude. It's time. Hey, you know what? Without further ado. There's some man. Yeah, there's 34B
Starting point is 00:04:08 cups going on there. Put in the weight prediction real quick, Sparky. At this point, 3-0-0-0-0-0-0. I'm just saying it wouldn't shock me. Can we address the bruising? Does that add weight? Look at that. I'm bruised up to. We did a video and we got thrown into the water off of this like human launcher
Starting point is 00:04:26 and I hit the water 30 times. Cody can say he's done everything for you guys. He's filmed everything. I cannot. Look at my leg bruise. I bailed. No, no, no. No.
Starting point is 00:04:35 Yeah, all right. Well. There it is. Yeah, we. That's not nothing. That's commitment. There's too much thigh. I don't even see the brew.
Starting point is 00:04:43 Well, all right. I'm going to put... Those are going to wail off. Do you need help? I was actually... 246. Can I go shoes off? Were you shoes off last time?
Starting point is 00:04:53 Oh, then no. You got to be consistent. 246. What are we at? Don't sugarcoat it. It looks like 22. 2.42. Wow.
Starting point is 00:05:05 Is that up or down? That's down. Is it? Dude, for all the cake, for our... All the cookies, you are really putting in the work, dude. I will say, if I get a full late hours of sleep, which I do most nights, my metabolism is one of the best in the game. How many sauna squats you doing?
Starting point is 00:05:19 Three sets of ten. Well, keep doing it, brother. Keep doing it. You are well on your way to 235. Man, you lose a cookie, not cookies, just one cookie. You can still have your cookie. You're so right. And you up your sets to four sets of ten?
Starting point is 00:05:35 I'm thinking... I'm going to start gaining weight, though. I'm thinking 238 next time we weigh in, which is next. Monday, by the way. So... Every week. Good to know. All right.
Starting point is 00:05:44 We're just trying to motivate you, Coe. Thanks, boys. That's all. Let's get to it. We've got to talk about two things. Really, we just got to talk about one thing. I want to revise my top 10 ESPN list of athletes.
Starting point is 00:05:54 Show Hay's number one. Best single game performance, maybe across any sport. So that bumps Curry out because he was 10. You put Show Hay number one. Just everything slides down. That's crazy. Dirk, you still squeaked in my top 10. It really is.
Starting point is 00:06:09 Can't even walk now. It's like hard to comprehend exactly what Shohay's doing. The 10 punchies over six innings, like that alone? Incredible. We grew up saying... You had three homers to that?
Starting point is 00:06:21 We grew up saying we're going to replicate the great one, Babe Ruth. The kids these days are growing up saying they're going to replicate Shohay. To do it on both sides. It's just silly. Yeah, I mean... Yeah, Herman Roots did some pitching
Starting point is 00:06:33 early in his career. But that was like when they were eating dogs that are in the seventh inning stretch, you know, and drinking birds. They were plumbers. Nowadays, it's insane, dude. It's insane. To K-10 over six innings and also hit three Jimmy Johnson's.
Starting point is 00:06:46 My question is, is it the greatest single performance in any sport ever? I don't even know what the player comp in another sport is to what Otani just did. What do y'all think? Dionne Sanders playing both ways. Yeah. But still, dude. Like a pick six and then also- To dominate on both sides.
Starting point is 00:07:05 Yeah, what would that be like? Punt return, two interceptions. and a 62-yard field goal to win the game. Oh, he's a kicker. That's crazy. Three ways. I don't know. You might even add to that.
Starting point is 00:07:17 Can you imagine if your kicker was also your punt returner? And also flew the team playing because that's basically what Otani did. He's got the logistics. He's got everything colored. He's the ops guy. Well, because the Blue Jays squeaked out the Mariners, I'm rooting for the Dodgers. Can't root for Canada, can you? No, no.
Starting point is 00:07:35 Root for the Dodgers and Kershaw. Our boy, Kershaw as well. And they win it. They win it. and six. Give me Dodgers and five. Okay. Gentleman sweep.
Starting point is 00:07:44 We're going to kill the baseball talk. What are we doing? Hey, and we're going straight to what you love, you know most about. NBA kicks off this week. Let's go. NBA kicks off. It's back, baby.
Starting point is 00:07:54 And I couldn't be more excited. Yeah, Cooper hitting the ground running, hopefully. He's just dunking on people playing the one. Uh-huh. Starts with a little in-state rivalry tonight. Yeah. Mav Spurs. That's a proper way to unload the season.
Starting point is 00:08:07 I like it. You get Wimby versus Coop. I think all I, will be on Dallas. But for the Mavs, you've got to stay the course, stay healthy. Health will be there.
Starting point is 00:08:16 Just week into the playoffs at this point. Yeah, just get in. Getting healthy. Yeah, just be 500 when Kyrie comes back. Kyrie comes back around the turn of the year. So hopefully they can stay afloat. Skinny Luca, though, don't sleep on skinny. I'm proud of him, man.
Starting point is 00:08:28 Because this one was a thing where if Luca didn't take this off season to skinny up, then when was he ever going to do it? Did he actually weighs more in this off season than he did? Because muscle weighs more than he did. His muscle weighs more than fat. That's what I've been trying to tell you guys. That's the Cody thing. Well, it's actually not.
Starting point is 00:08:43 It's just he got injured and gained a lot of weight. And then when he got traded, he was actually like 270. Look at these, though. This is, I can't wait to do this for you, Cody. He's looking good. This is by design. That body transformation picks. That men's health thing.
Starting point is 00:08:55 You throw a couple lights on these arms, and I'm telling you, they go from looking like sausages to just beef sticks. I don't know, dude. We threw some lights on you on the basketball court and you went from pencil to... Oh, no, that is a fake image. That's a fake.
Starting point is 00:09:08 Oh, man. But that's what you kind of look like right now, Jones. I do. I carry a lot of way in my face. Maybe we should trade you. And that would incentivize you. Trade you to like Mr. Beast just to like really hammer home. Like this guy's got to lose weight.
Starting point is 00:09:21 Send me to how ridiculous. I am proud of Luca. I obviously still have a soft spot in my heart for Luca. I wish him the best. But with that being said, I don't even think the Lakers are really a top five team for me this go around. Who do y'all like this number five? West is too good. Of course, it's a marathon, not a sprint with the NBA season.
Starting point is 00:09:37 West is too good. Houston's going to be tough, man. Houston is quietly really good. Texas trio is going to be tough. Just like the NFL, I think there's a ton of parity right now across the National Basketball Association. He'd be Mavs to climb to mountain one more time. Well, when we talked to Stephen A. Smith, when he stopped by the office,
Starting point is 00:09:54 he was very high on the Mavericks this year. He said their half-core defense was going to be elite. But that's the thing is how much can we count on AD? You know, he's the type of guy. Yeah, if he's getting out of his car or walking into the house, he might roll. heavy this off season. Yeah, I did see that. Something about Texas.
Starting point is 00:10:11 I think it's the Tex-Mex, the barbecue. It's always in your face. It's me. That's another thing, dude, if you didn't live in Texas, what would you weigh? So true. And the further south you go,
Starting point is 00:10:21 the harder it is. He's saying, I'm heavy because I live here. That's what I'm saying. If I moved up north, that'd be like a 200. You're just a byproduct to where you live.
Starting point is 00:10:30 I almost had the perfect sports weekend, man. I almost had it, and two teams ruined it for me. I had an Aggie win. Yep. We had the Burnley win versus Leeds. Yeah, we did.
Starting point is 00:10:39 Man United. At Anfields, beat Liverpool. And then the Cowboys won. The Cowboys won. I told the Cowboys they needed to lose out last week. And here we go blowing out a commander's team. It was impressive.
Starting point is 00:10:52 It was. To be fair, though. They had no one playing. Why is everyone like, dude, where's this defense? Well, I don't know. Mariotta was playing. Second half. I don't know.
Starting point is 00:11:02 They had no one to worry about. I had to be fair, though. I thought a bunch of practice squatters were about. to go throw up a 50 burger too. So I'll take it. That offense the Cowboys have obviously super electric. It's going to continue to win games. We now went from the third pick of the overall draft to, nope, now we're number five.
Starting point is 00:11:18 The ceiling here. And it's just going to keep going down. The NFC's kind of beating each other up too. I actually think the ceiling for the Cowboys, they could be a playoff team. Now, do I think they could get in and piece together four straight performances that could get you to a Super Bowl and ultimately lift a Lombardi? No, that feels very far-fetched. But with that offensive loan, nobody's going to want to play the Dallas Cowboys.
Starting point is 00:11:37 What if this is the team that gets to the NFC championship game? It would be the most Dallas Cowboys thing. That's hilarious, dude. That would be so funny. Like, that's the team, the one that can't guard anybody. It's funny. Oh, it's reality TV, though. I mean, they have pulled me back in.
Starting point is 00:11:52 They're setting me up. CD you picket or not. I bought a new hat than a jersey. If you're Dak Prescott, do you take a lesser payroll to keep pickings? Do you like, hey, put me down to 50 next year? It's certainly working, and I think it does make 88 better. I think... But do you...
Starting point is 00:12:07 If you're Dack, do you take a pay cut? Yeah. I mean, it's easy... You're asking me to take a pay cut here on set. You know, might have a little different answer, but yeah, it would be cool to see... Number four, take a pay cut. Jackson's willing to come in every week.
Starting point is 00:12:21 We don't have the funds. You got to lower your salary. See, I'm not lowering my salary for Jackson to come in. Got it. That's a large ask for a little salary. That's getting worse. You're losing money and getting worse. All right.
Starting point is 00:12:34 Do you see this heist that happened over the weekend? straight out of a movie, boys. No, I didn't. I didn't see. Lavor, how do you pronounce that? Louvre, the Louvre. That's pronounced Louvre. Never would guess that.
Starting point is 00:12:46 Lube heist. Oh gosh. Thief stole jewels in a seven-minute heist. Two high security display cases were targeted and eight of the nine items take and remain unaccounted for, including a tiara, a necklace worn by Queen Marie. So does that mean they found one of them?
Starting point is 00:13:00 How do you find one and not the other ones? I think this was an inside job. somebody said it earlier in our company I can't remember who but I think the Louvre numbers are down and they needed this spice up Oh you think this is a self-hit to get publicity Yeah it's like you want the jewels that were stolen in return
Starting point is 00:13:20 No it's like no one's ever talked about the Louvre this much Someone didn't even know how to say it And now you're like you're itching to get to the Louv and see the Mona Lisa It appeared to be a professional heist They hit it right as it open too Oh I'm sure they allowed that to happen They said, hey, you still a couple million dollars.
Starting point is 00:13:37 We're not going to spend any money on marketing. We'll call it a wash. Watch the ticket sales just skyrocket. In our group, who has what job, if it's a heist? Put me in the car. Put me in the car. He's the getaway driver, I think. No doubt.
Starting point is 00:13:52 You're the getaway driver. I'm the guy on calm. I'm the guy on comms. I'm the guy on comms. You're going to get one of the twins to be just the guy that's going to be the sacrificial lamb. There's got to be one. Give me, give me Kobe. is the sacrificial lamb he won't he'll take it uh ties obviously the one doing he's the ring
Starting point is 00:14:10 leader he's the one he's the first in the lasers and whatever out is out there yeah taking the bruises uh but boy i'll tell you if me and you if me and him are in the car and there's anything about getting caught we're out of there we're leaving all three of them no garrett would be the first to yeah we're leaving all three of them and we're like dude those guys are idiots do your own thing yeah for sure Corey and Kobe about yay hi Tyler the bearded one he was the inspiration you're just throwing everybody under the bus yeah I could see that yeah for sure Jones getaway driver no doubt about that before I get kicked out of here I do I've read some comments about the
Starting point is 00:14:48 haircut I'm honestly my my barber I've had for a decade she just had a baby so she's been out of commission for like three months oh so she's back now no still not back so I've been rocking like short on top long in the back with a little bit of a Mohawk, I'm thinking about just a full-on reset. Just buzz the thing and start over. I don't think you need to buzz the top. You don't? You don't?
Starting point is 00:15:08 Get the back to be the, you know, business casual look. Do you like that? Hmm, I think full reset. Yeah, you got a virus. You got a virus. There's too much weight right here. You got a virus. Yeah, we should need to clean it out.
Starting point is 00:15:21 I think it's a clean job. Well, if that's the case. Buzz cut. Call me crazy. I can buzz it for you. Okay. All right. Dude, I thought honestly,
Starting point is 00:15:31 until I met you, I thought people that were bald just chose to go bald. Oh, I do. Like, they're like, I like that look. This is a choice. This is a choice. That's what I thought. I could grow hair. Got it. You're right. Okay, so I am correct. Mine's not a choice, unfortunately. Mine's not a choice. I actually thought the same thing. I didn't know people lost their hair. And now I tell, now I tell my boys, like, what do you tell them? Oh, just get ready for it. Do you think it's stressed or do you think it's just hereditary? Mine's 98% stress. Oh, really? What are you stressed about the Aggies?
Starting point is 00:16:03 Dude, I stress out about... Garrett's a stressor. You know that. I mean, I stress out about everything, dude. Parking spot. Yeah. But what? Like a parking spot.
Starting point is 00:16:11 Dude, yeah. Just completely melt. No way. Dude. On my way to work, I'm like, dude, I'm late. I'm going to have to park all the way in the back. Which is a 10 foot long walk. That's an extra 50 feet.
Starting point is 00:16:21 I just had a realization, boys. Kick me out. The twins and tie were on accounted for this weekend. I'm not so sure the highest wasn't them. I want receipts. Bethany's walking around with a blue. crown the size of the powerful tower. That would be
Starting point is 00:16:35 great. Well, Coach, it was always an honor. Gentlemen, I'm here for the wait. I get it. I know my role. Well, hey, you got seven days, brother. I want to see that in 235. I want to see that thing in the 235s. I'm going to run a little bit this week. You should, because it's a slap in the face
Starting point is 00:16:51 to the rest of the team that you're coming into training camp, overweight, and we're going to have to, we're having to answer questions about our teammate who's not prepared for the season. It's ridiculous. Oh, we've got a squad games coming up. No, we do. That's what you're saying. Yes, it's time to buckle up.
Starting point is 00:17:04 Are they, like, real sports, or are they, like, baseball? We're like, you don't even have to sweat. You could be fat as heck and be great at it. We're staring in the face of a Savannah Banana 4-0 suite. I know, but answer my question. It's not me. Does cardio matter in the sports that we're probably going to play? Probably not.
Starting point is 00:17:21 Thank you. I would say probably not. But I still think... The bigger you are, the better you are. Like a very blonde. When he was skinny, not very good. Once he got big. I think for your boys, you're encouraging him right now.
Starting point is 00:17:33 I think for your boys, you need to set a good example. They need their dad around. Okay. I'm not close to dying early. Not that heavy. You're close to a TLC special. You think so? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:17:43 My 600-pound life? Yeah. They're about to be taking you out of your house by crane. See, I'm with, I think you're distracted by the big number, but you don't realize as a 6-6 person, I'm actually on par, if not underway. Oh, dude, you are. You are. When you watch your next college football game, they're like, this wide receiver is 6-6, and they're like 270, and he's skinny-looking.
Starting point is 00:18:05 But you're not getting paid to be a wide receiver, Cody. Let me get paid for. I'm actually getting paid to be fat. That's why I'm here. Fair. That was a good point. I'm getting paid to stand on a scale. Everyone, Cody Jones.
Starting point is 00:18:15 I'm going to eat a third lunch. Love y'all. He's so close to a handicapped placard, though, and I'm jealous about that. That was fun, Sparks. I think you guys are really going to like this next segment. Sparky tie had a chance to see. sit down with Tom Brady. TB 12 himself.
Starting point is 00:18:31 Let's take a listen. We have the goat on hand. Yeah, seven times Super Bowl. Champ, Tom Brady, aka TB12. Here we go. Thank you, Tom. Thanks, guys.
Starting point is 00:18:45 Yeah, man. Good to have you. A whole good thing makes me a little uncomfortable. Does it? Really? Yeah. It's just kind of, I don't know. I like to think I did the best I could do.
Starting point is 00:18:55 I think you did pretty well. I did pretty well, brother. I did the best I could do. There's a lot of great athletes out there, a lot of great quarterbacks. So, affectionately, one of my great friends and also co-founder of, or excuse me, my partner in Noble, his name as Mike Ripoli. He always introduces me as three-time Super Bowl loser Tom Brady, which actually
Starting point is 00:19:14 probably makes me feel a little bit more like him at home. There you go. Yeah. I like that. Always looking at the imperfections. Sure. Well, dude, I actually spared Colon on today. I'll do that for many people. I clip my fingernails. I pulled out all the stops. It's that $35 target stuff, man. It's also not usually have this much of a studio audience. Yeah, I was kind of upset that he got such a rous innovation. I haven't got a clap or an MVP chance. Been a long time. It's like my eighth episode, man.
Starting point is 00:19:41 There we go. Come on, there we go. One of my favorite parts about you is you're a thorough football junkie. You love the game. I'm a sicko. And dude, when it was like a Sunday night, you got football night in America going, and they cut down to you running into the end zone with that crazy fist pump, let's go. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:19:58 Fired me up, man. Fires me up thinking about it. Well, he's a competitor, too. and he's probably the biggest competitor I know, but I bet you're pretty close to that. I've seen him lock in. You know, we had a few challenges before about a year ago, and he's a tough guy to beat.
Starting point is 00:20:11 So got to like respect the competition, I think, brings out the best in everybody. Sure. So in life, it's like there's an accountability to yourself. There's an accountability to the moment of, you know, when you're going out there to perform. But then the competition, you should really respect it because it brings out a level of focus in you that, you know,
Starting point is 00:20:32 you just can't find by yourself. Yeah. No doubt. So it's what's all about. How do you find that you check that box of that competition? Because obviously you're not dropping back seven steps anymore and ripping it. How are you checking that box of staying in the competitive world? You know, to be honest, it's, I hate what people say to be honest, because they're like,
Starting point is 00:20:51 oh, do I've been lying the rest of the time? But I think it's, I don't really have that level of competition anymore. Thank God, you know. It's like that fight or flight every day for, 23 years and then five years at Michigan, four years in high school, it takes a toll on you. And not that I love that moment of my life, but I also realize, like, there's other moments that don't have to be as competitive, you know? So, like, even in my Fox broadcasting role, like, I just want to do a great job and have fun and explain, I don't need to be, you know, in my way,
Starting point is 00:21:26 like competitive with anybody else. Like, it is purely me versus me. And, you know, my preparation. I'm good with that. You know, if I can perform well on a broadcast for three hours on a Sunday, I really enjoy that. But, like, I'm not comparing myself to, I did. Like, I probably did when I was playing Peyton Manning, when I was playing Drew Breeze and Philip Rivers and, you know, Eli Manning.
Starting point is 00:21:47 And, you know, that was intense competition. I think for me now, take a step back. I sleep a lot better at night. You know, I'm not getting beat up all the time anymore. So it's, like, really an enjoyable part of my life. Not as sore on Mondays. Thank God. I mean, on the flights home are way more enjoyable as a broadcaster.
Starting point is 00:22:06 Sure. You know, you're not kicking yourself for every play. And, you know, I really respect the guys that are still down there in the arena. You know, there's a, there's a battle, there's a fight. It's tough, man. It's, it's all encompassing, too. And, you know, it's like, I think the thing I love about competitive, physical contact sports is there is, if you're not prepared, you physically pay a price. You know, so I think, like, and obviously, I have.
Starting point is 00:22:32 I love basketball. I love baseball. I love golf. But like, there's a toughness associated with a combat sport that if you're not doing the work in advance, you physically will take the brunt of the lack of preparation. So I think, like, I really respect the sports that are physically demanding and require a physical level of preparation, because you will pay the price yourself if you're not ready to go. Love that. I absolutely love that. Speaking of big hits, I saw recently the 01 Clements job on you.
Starting point is 00:23:08 He would get aggravated assault for that nowadays. Helmet went flying. Is that the biggest shot you ever took? No, that was actually, it wasn't the biggest. I had plenty of other big ones. But that was my fault. You know, I think whenever I try to bring that clip up, it's like, and I talked, I saw Ray Lewis on the sideline of a Baltimore name that I did last week.
Starting point is 00:23:28 And like I kind of missed the way that, you know, there was. was an offense and defensive edge every week, you know? And if you had a better defense and you could physically impose your will on the offense, you could win a game that way. And, you know, Buffalo was like that when I first played them. You know, they had a lot of good, London Fletcher played for them. Nate Clements played for them. They had a really talented defense.
Starting point is 00:23:51 And you had to bring it. And if you didn't, they were to knock your head off. And you know what? So what did that force me to do as a quarterback? Learn how to read coverage is better. You know, when I'm out of the podcast. Or throw the freaking ball away. You know, but don't sit there and like run down the field and pretend like I had, it was flag football.
Starting point is 00:24:11 And like now that I see like a lot of guys now, it is flag football for quarterbacks. You know, like when they run out of the pocket, you know, they feel like, well, they can't be touched. And then they're, and it really, I think it sets them back because it's not forcing them to play in the pocket and learn how to diagnose things and develop a real skill. Because I don't think running is a skill. I think running is a trait. You're not developing that. You know, I think learning how to read coverages, diagnose defenses, come up with game plans,
Starting point is 00:24:39 come up with better strategy. That to me is a skill. That's what Peyton Manning had. That's what Drew Brees had. And, you know, I think there's been a regression mentally of the game that when I watch, it's more trait. You know, we value traits and not skill. Sure.
Starting point is 00:24:56 You know, so. Do you feel like that pendulum has swung too far the other way and the protection of the quarterbacks and how they're able to take advantage? of acting like they're about to slide or go out of bounds and then make a move and try and pick up the first down? I just think there was a great line in football that was the defense, you force the defense
Starting point is 00:25:14 to defend every blade of grass. And when you're a runner, you know, for a quarterback now, the quarterback is protected more so than probably what I think, you know, is right for what the defense is trying to do. Like they're not trying to give you an extra inch, but now the quarterback can take yards, and the defenders have to go, okay, you can take those yards.
Starting point is 00:25:38 But what if the Super Bowl, like 2014 for the Patriots and Seattle comes down to one yard, and you concede one yard? Well, we don't win the Super Bowl. So, like, every inch matters on the football field, and every yard matters because those inches add up to yards. But now we're not allowing the defense to defend every inch. We essentially have to back off a player.
Starting point is 00:25:58 So there's a lot of different things like, you know, rule changes which have, you know, I think, taken away from some of the abilities for defenses to really limit offensive play. And, you know, I mean, I say it a lot on broadcast for sure, but it's not the way the game should be played. I think defenses should be valued as much as offenses. It actually forces the offenses to be better. It actually makes the offensive quarterbacks better, you know, because you can develop a higher level of performance by studying and working hard. And just like I had to outsmart Ray Lewis and Ed Reed. They forced me to do that rather than, I think, some of the things now,
Starting point is 00:26:37 which is snap the ball, figure out what to do, and then try to run around and find an open receiver. Which, by the way, isn't very effective. If you look at a lot of the stats, passing stats are way down. And it's just, you know, and again, I'm watching every week. I'm not looking at this surgical style of offense that I believe what the, you know, the beauty of what the NFL is. I love it.
Starting point is 00:26:57 You said running is a skill like a fellow 5.0. 40 guy. I like that. That's pretty good. Our podcast obviously called Almost Athletes. You ever had a moment in your youth? Is that rage bait with me right there? No, no. It was more or less talking about me and Ty. Oh, okay. I think you guys aren't good athletes.
Starting point is 00:27:14 Yeah. Almost. Almost. Almost. Yeah. All those big 10 offers I talked about. I should have gone to Rutgers, man. But no, we call ourselves Almost Athletes. You ever had an almost athlete moment in your youth where it was like, I don't know if I'm cut out for this. Maybe your combine picture? With all due respect. I thought it looked good in the picture at the time. I didn't say you looked bad. I was doing push-ups before that photo.
Starting point is 00:27:34 You just looked like an almost athlete. No, that's all. Yeah, I looked more. It wasn't a finest moment in my life. But again, that was pre-like internet era where you thought, like, that was for like NFL scouts. And now literally, you know, anyone who has an NFL feed around April
Starting point is 00:27:48 comes up and that picture comes up. And I want to, like, you know, kill the social media manager for the NFL. But that's okay. When was I almost an athlete? I don't know. That's awesome. That's good.
Starting point is 00:28:02 I wish I could. Mine, I'm like, well, which one do you want to choose from? Maybe I was pretty naive over a period of my life. What's your worst sport? What sport do you feel like you don't excel in? Or it's not as good as others. A hundred-eater dash. Track and field.
Starting point is 00:28:14 Yeah, track and field. Yeah, that's fair. Floor routine. Yeah, exactly. Yeah. I'm pretty good. I'm like, yeah, pretty good at basically all the hand-eye coordination stuff. I mean, I can hit a baseball out of the, you know, a baseball park.
Starting point is 00:28:26 I could throw a football. I can hit a golf ball, 300 yards. Surfing. Surfing is one of your favorites now? I'm not a great surfer, but I was actually texting my friend. Literally today, I want to be a better surfer. Okay. Where do you do that at?
Starting point is 00:28:39 It used to be Costa Rica where I'd surf a lot, but I haven't been there in a few years. Yep. But everyone does these wave pools now and stuff. A little easier to learn there. Yeah, a lot easier to learn. Yeah. You bring your cards? I did.
Starting point is 00:28:51 Yeah, I brought those bad boys off. I know you're into the card game and stuff. These are three of mine right here. Let's see what you got. Look at those. Bad boys, man. I'm into the downtowns. Those are great cards.
Starting point is 00:29:03 That's the route that I started going. Yep. I love that one. I love the artwork with the cards now. You know, they've gotten so creative, you know, over the last few years, you know. I think the product has really improved. But these are all great. Listen, can I say something?
Starting point is 00:29:18 I'm always a buyer of my own cards. Really? I would love to buy. That's fascinating. You know, when I can make an offer. You can make an, we can talk. We can talk about it. All right.
Starting point is 00:29:26 I paid pretty good money for them, too. I make pretty good money. Yeah, yeah. So I can afford it. Okay. But, you know, I'm probably the biggest investor in my own cards. You are? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:29:37 Do you have all those? I do. Yeah. Yeah, but I'm always looking for more. What's your favorite card? I love giving them as gifts to people. That's what I love doing. So I collect a lot of my own.
Starting point is 00:29:46 I sign them, I personalize them, and it's a nice. So what's your thoughts on signing a card that's graded? Do you think it's devalues it or anything? No, they increase the value a lot. Okay. It just makes it more rare. Okay. So, yeah, certainly.
Starting point is 00:29:59 I want to sign my own card and send it as like a Christmas card. That's pretty cool. Thank you for the world. I mean, I don't think you're ready. Again, I never imagined that I would actually be in that position to be able to do that. I was very much like just a normal card collector when I was a kid. And every spare dollar I ever had as a kid, you know, I had a paper route where I made literally like $2.50. I'd make like $20 a month.
Starting point is 00:30:21 Yeah, you know, deliver. And I would take that money and I'd go to my local hobby shop, what's on second sports cards in San Mateo. and I would buy boxes of cards. And, you know, if I ever got good grades, which was rare, because I wasn't really a great student. But I'd always ask my mom, mom, can I go down and get some, you know, a pack of cards or, and Christmas, you know, Santa Claus would bring me, you know, boxes of cards.
Starting point is 00:30:42 So I had a really cool collection. A lot of baseball. A lot of baseball. And then, you know, a little bit of football. But I kept them over the years. So I've had them for, you know, over 40 years. Yeah. And I got a great collection.
Starting point is 00:30:54 That's cool. They all sit at home. And I still treat them to, same way, you know, it's like, I don't know, there's part of nostalgia and then also just the love of sports and, you know, I used to study the back of cards and batting averages and stuff like that where someone was from. You're a numbers nerd? I was a numbers nerd.
Starting point is 00:31:11 Actually, I'd like to think that's why I got a good stats grade at Michigan, A and stats. You know, I was pretty good at numbers. So, thanks for the cards. I appreciate it. You pocket those. Favorite card you've owned? Do you have one? A lot of my race.
Starting point is 00:31:27 I have some cool sign cards of like me and Peyton together. Me, Eli Payton, me, Drew, Eli, Peyton. That's cool. You know, kind of like I like the ones that have, yeah. I wouldn't sure if you could sit in the same room as Eli. We've become friends. We've become friends. It's nothing personal.
Starting point is 00:31:45 He was just trying to do his job. And he did it very well against us, against others, not as well. But certainly when he played me, I don't know what that, you know, when he would see that Patriot helmet coming to his stadium, he would turn into. competition brought the best out of it. Yeah, it did. He played some great games. That's cool.
Starting point is 00:32:01 That team. Michael Strahan had some great pass rushes. Yeah, that's a good start. I'm feeling better about myself now. Yeah? Yeah. We had a lot of fun last time you were in, if you remember. How could you forget?
Starting point is 00:32:13 We did the home run derby out there. Oh, yeah. Smoking some line drives. And I don't know how many times you said it, but it had to be about 75 where you're like, one more. One more. One more. I got to see your competitive side.
Starting point is 00:32:22 Oh, man. Very much. We should say, oh, oh, oh. One more, one more, one more. Yeah. Uh-huh. I know. So if you want to run it back today, I had a bullpen yesterday.
Starting point is 00:32:32 Did you? Yeah. Yeah. But I'm not taking it easy on you this time around. Ripping out all the stops. But I don't want you late to your production meeting either. Okay. I don't want that either.
Starting point is 00:32:40 So you're going to do the Dallas-Washington game tomorrow. Yeah. Tyler and Dack. Know each other very well. Do you really? Yeah. Is that coming by at some point? Breeze is up here.
Starting point is 00:32:50 Colt McCoy's up here. We got some gunslingers. He's coming today? Yeah. Oh, I'd love to. What time? He may be here now. Oh, amazing.
Starting point is 00:32:56 In-house today, we have McCoy, TB, Dack, and who? In Breeze. I feel like I could go home and throw for 500 on Heism. I think we run like a flag tournament out here right now. Seven-on-seven game on the turf. A little round robin? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:33:09 Wow. I like it. It will get very competitive. Me and Drew Breeze pick up a football near one another. Yeah, Drew is not afraid of a little football competition, that's for sure. He was an amazing pastor, man. Like really six-foot one, and I played against him in college at Purdue, and just incredible, incredibly talented player
Starting point is 00:33:27 and just the most accurate passer. Yep. I mean, he could just, if he was throwing darts, man, it would be right in the middle of that bullseye every time. He was just, so I always admired them. And just a student of the game, great leader, Hall of Famer. Yeah. A lot of great guys.
Starting point is 00:33:42 Great dad. Tough. Great coach. Tough, too, man. Yeah. Obviously, Super Bowl 51. That's going to live in infamy, 283, the comeback. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:33:52 We have a buddy of ours. who's about 283 pounds. I don't know if he can come back like y'all did. Any advice for Cody Jones? Who's off the rails? It's bad, dude. And it's like we have squad games, which is a like competition between other content creators
Starting point is 00:34:07 Best to Seven series. And he's got to pull his way. We need tall man codes to get back in shape. Any words of advice to Cody? To how to get him back in shape. Trying to get him going, man. You're a leader. Oh, man.
Starting point is 00:34:19 I mean, how much advice thing. Yeah, I mean, just by the book. Start eating broccoli for dessert. What's your go-to dessert when you're eating clean? When I eat pretty good. Yeah, I have this key lime tart that's really good made I like cashew nuts. It actually doesn't sound bad. That's not horrible.
Starting point is 00:34:34 Yeah. But dessert? Yeah. That's strong. That's strong. Yeah, you keep it clean. You keep it healthy. And I saw that first hand the first time you were in when you brought like a city water well of canteen thing.
Starting point is 00:34:46 I did. Yeah. So you firmly believe in H2-O in hydrating. Yeah, I'm a big hydrate. Yeah, I'm a big hydrant. Yeah, I'm a big hydrator. Yeah. I feel like it's like your muscles should be like beef tenderloin and not beef turkey.
Starting point is 00:34:58 So it's just... I would agree with that. I mean, but you'd be surprised. So if you were to stop at a gas station and go in and you were going to have some junk food. Oh, yeah. What would be your cheat meal? My cheat meal? Junk of choice.
Starting point is 00:35:09 At a gas station? Oh, man. There's no water available, by the way. They're out of water. What would I get? It must have sugar in it. Like a Pop-Tart or something. A pop-tart?
Starting point is 00:35:21 A gas station pop-tart. I don't know. I mean, that's what you kind of find at gas stations. They have candy. I mean, they've got better stuff than Pop-Tarts. I get an unreal candy. Like, you ever have that unreal, like, the... I don't think so.
Starting point is 00:35:32 No, it's like a healthier candy. It just doesn't have all the junk. Healthy candy. I mean, what do you say? Snickers? I don't do it sound good. No. I'm scared to even crazy.
Starting point is 00:35:41 I have better versions of that, so. Okay. Scared to even ask if the Pop-Tart would be frosted. I feel like you wouldn't even frosted. No, I would toast it. It'd be a bear pop-tart. A beer pop tart. Yeah, no frosting.
Starting point is 00:35:51 I told the cinnamon pop tart. Yeah, I guess, yeah, cinnamon. Like, you know, you get it and you open it up and you see the steam coming out. It's pretty tasty. Okay, I can get on board with it. My story would be my pick. Do they have a Pizuki at the, uh, at the gas. You a big Pizuki guy?
Starting point is 00:36:03 I mean, if we're going in, we're going in. That's what I'm looking for. That's the answer I want to hear. We're going in. Well, you said a gas station. I was a little misleading. All right, let's say a restaurant. Restaurant.
Starting point is 00:36:13 You're going Pizuki. I'm going Pizuki. Yeah. Do you know where the Pizuki is? A warm brownie or a chocolate chip brownie with ice cream, chocolate, all the fixings on top. Just put it in the middle of the table, let everyone dig in. Eight spoons. That's my love way after it.
Starting point is 00:36:32 Is it? Yeah. It's a lot of sugar. Oh, man, that's up my alley. Are you okay with that? Yeah. Well, not so much. I've kind of been making a good shape, though.
Starting point is 00:36:39 Yeah, I've been working hard. Thank you, Tom, for noticing. I was really, that's why I wore the legend small shirt today. It was really hoping you'd comment. I had donuts this morning for the fourth day in a row. He's a season ticket on a donut. kick right now. Why?
Starting point is 00:36:50 I just love them. I love a chocolate twist and colotchis and donut holes. What's that chocolate twist? It's just like a... A twisted dough with chocolate and glaze on top. Yeah. So you just have normal chocolate donut.
Starting point is 00:37:01 Pretty much, but it's bigger. You get a little more bang for your buck. See, I would go like a cinnamon roll. Yeah, I like cinnamon rolls. They usually give me the freebie cinnamon rolls. I did think it'd be great to get the donut shop. You get a lot of free stuff during some point. Do you get a lot of free stuff just when you walk in and they're like...
Starting point is 00:37:14 It's probably the hardest part about being famous is all the free donuts that I can't turn down. Do you? Every day. I'll go in there. And even if I'm like, I'm going to keep it clean this morning, I'm just going to do a dozen glazed donut holes, two calacies. And then here they come with the box and they put the chocolate twist and the blueberry cake and then the cinnamon roll in there. And then what am I supposed to do with that? I can't just leave it there.
Starting point is 00:37:33 I'll be gracious. And then I bring it upstairs for the boys up there in the social room. Tom showing up in Foxborough, you know, first to arrive, last leave. That's him with the donut shop. Every day, baby putting in that work. It's nice that you're giving back to everybody else though. Yeah. So it's kind of like you. Just the leftovers.
Starting point is 00:37:47 Yeah. Well, that's nice. Yeah. Dude, I got to bring this up. Oh, what do you got to bring up? I was on Instagram scrolling like we all do late at night. About two nights ago, man, I saw the reel where you were talking about the photo that was taken at AT&T. Oh, man.
Starting point is 00:38:00 With the sunlight coming through. Oh, yeah. That part was really cool. I think we have the picture, actually. Yeah. Dope photo. Oh, man. With that said, the part of that reel that stuck out to me, dude.
Starting point is 00:38:10 Whenever my sister sent me something mean, I just send them that photo. Whenever they insult me, I'm just like, you're like, you're like girls. 20 to 6, that scoreboard doesn't look right. That's unbelievable. But what amazed me about this, dude, was you went into extreme detail about the time of the game, the drive. You talk about the gronk back shoulder against Byron Jones. That was that throw right there.
Starting point is 00:38:31 Dude, I love the sports nerd aspect of you because I'm known as like the weird guy who can tell you week two. My junior year, yeah, I had five for 73 against Anna, Texas, you know? Yeah. And I'm glad there's somebody weird like me. That's special, dude. Yeah, it's got a certain memory you have when you're in these moments. And like even when I remember that day, there's like so many moments of that day that I can, that are just logged in this, you know, brain. Like I can just remember the temperature outside.
Starting point is 00:38:59 Obviously it was inside, but outside, I remember the day it was. I remember the walk from the locker room to the field. I did a couple. I mean, obviously did more of that, but I remember two specific times. I remember sitting on the sideline with Julian. I remember, like, I can fly. I threw a touchdown pass to Dionne Lewis in that game. and the play was called Thunder,
Starting point is 00:39:21 and I threw it behind him, and I still have that visual. He made a great catch, made like three people miss, but I don't see that play from, like, would you see the TV feed? I actually see it from my eyes on that play. That's cool.
Starting point is 00:39:34 Does that make sense? Yeah, 100% of a different point of view that nobody else has ever seen of that play. Yeah, it's like my own individual view. So when I see the play, I actually see it on the field, but then I really see it. So do you remember golf that way
Starting point is 00:39:46 that you remember football? Same thing. Like when you go play a golf round, you're like, oh, hole six. Yeah, I remember that third shot on hole six and you can recall everything in the same way. It's probably a different level of focus. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:39:55 And maybe because like football was, like I said, it was so competitive and tense, you have this heightened sense of alertness and maybe a heightened sense of memory too. Yep. You know, because that's the beauty of like, I always stop playing sports. Like when I'm in that photo right there,
Starting point is 00:40:10 I don't know, you still, I'm not thinking about anything else in the world. Yeah. Except what I'm, I'm supposed to be doing. Yeah. Throwing that ball to a certain area. I'm not thinking about yesterday, tomorrow. In the moment. You know, peace in the Middle East. I'm not, I'm just like literally. With all due respect. Yeah. Yeah. I'm just thinking about one thing. And I think like that's what we're all searching for in life. Like where can you find moments in your life where you're just fully
Starting point is 00:40:36 present. And I think when you're the addicting part about sports is you're fully present in that moment. Like there's no other place, you know, so. Is it like selective memory, though? Because like I said, I could go tell you my stat line from week two in my junior year, but I also couldn't tell you where I left my keys from 10 minutes. You battle that too? Yeah, I mean, probably, yeah, to a degree less concentrated. Sure.
Starting point is 00:41:01 But certainly with playing, I was super locked in for sure. We recently came out with a video Disney World Records, where we hopped around 12 different Disney parks, broke a record. But while on that journey, some international flights, I got to watch the Birmingham City dog man. Yeah, man. I've said the Burnley fans, where it's the scarf. Yeah, the Scarf, baby.
Starting point is 00:41:23 The owner, excuse me. Burnley and proud. I'm in the presence of owners today. Fresh up a result. But what amaze me in that, dude, is like, once you're invested, you're, like, talks to the team and stuff, I think they were even kind of taken back at, like, dude, this guy is about that action. Like, you don't just dip a toe in the water.
Starting point is 00:41:42 No, but I think the difference for me is, like, I'm. I've always seen myself as someone that's been in the chair, which is a different perspective, you know. You come in in a role that maybe they see you as an executive, but to me, I see myself as what would the players, what should they hear, what should they take out of this? Because I'd be sitting in meetings and they'd bring people into talk and you'd be like rolling your eyes, you know, like,
Starting point is 00:42:09 what is this all about? Or you'd leave and you'd be like, look, I didn't really take anything from that. So I think I'm really conscious that, like, I know right after you say, give those five minutes or 10 minutes or 20 minutes, they've got to go out and put things to action. So it's like, what can I convey to them where they can actually do something with it? You know, rather than, you know, the raw, raw speech, it's more of like, give you something. Some substance.
Starting point is 00:42:32 Well, just so you can take to go out there. Something out. A little field of your fire. Yeah, MJ was always like that where, you know, the greats where almost they make something up in their head just to get that extra. Yeah. You know, you that guy? Yeah, I mean, you have to like. I always thought in sports, again, like there was an anger associated with how I had to be the right frame of mind.
Starting point is 00:42:53 And even when I ran out and screamed on the field, it was to fire me up. It was to create an enemy on the other side of the ball. And not that they were in that moment they were my enemy because I couldn't, if they were my brother, and I don't have brothers. But if they were my brother, there would be a less violent mode. Yeah. So then you'd want to take it easy on them. And it's like, no, no, no, I actually want to beat them way worse. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:43:15 Like, and I think that's a good mentality to happen. When I see guys before the game shaking hands, I'm like, I didn't shake hands. I didn't become friends with Peyton Manning until after our careers. And I was mutually, the respect was off the charts. But like, I didn't want to see guys that I competed against as friends. And I didn't want to socialize with them. And like, I always look at like Tiger Woods. Like, he didn't have any friends out there.
Starting point is 00:43:40 He wanted to beat them all. Yeah. You know, so, but now all the guys are buddies and this. And I'm like, how can you, how can you want to kill that guy if that's your buddy? You know, so anyway, just a different mentality. And maybe the era of social media and everyone being able to be so connected with one another creates a desensitization of that anger emotion. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:44:03 The anger is motivating. I think the anger for an athlete can inspire action. 100%. You know, like that's a good, that's a good frame of mind when you go to competition. I definitely think the social media aspect has played a huge everybody's more approachable, more accessible,
Starting point is 00:44:19 and I think that's definitely played a big role because yeah, you're right. I mean, when Tiger was playing, guys didn't want to play with him because of that mentality and they felt like, this guy hates me,
Starting point is 00:44:27 a guy wants to kill me. Yeah, you don't have any of that on PGA tour, really in sports in general anymore of everybody's friends, everybody's, that, it's just not there.
Starting point is 00:44:37 Yeah. It's not there anymore. It's a very different, competitive landscape. Yeah. I love the way his brain operates. Do you? I think it's a little psychotic at times.
Starting point is 00:44:46 You mentioned no brothers. I've seen these guys. I don't have any children, but I've seen them take a lot of sacrifice over the years, missing youth sports, different things like that due to the nature of the job. Obviously, you have to deal with that too. Has it been nice post-playing days to kind of kick back, be a father, and really dive into that? Yeah, always, you know, I think parenting is, you know, it's a great gift, you know. And, you know, you just invest the time and pour the energy.
Starting point is 00:45:13 into them and be present and I was very fortunate I had the best parents and I think that parenting that I got from a young age allowed me when I got to the professional level there was a level of support that I always had that I could always rely back on and my three sisters who were very supportive so you know you got to when the foundation is strong you know you can deal with the highs and the lows and I think dealing with success is really hard for a lot of people you know because maybe they haven't had the best best example. And I think dealing with failure is really hard. Sure. So I think the lucky part
Starting point is 00:45:49 that I had was great parents. So I really try to mimic a lot of the parenting that I received. You know, I had great role model and a dad, a guy that always tried to look up to. And I always never wanted to let my dad down. You know, my dad was a really hardworking guy, very caring, always put his kids first. And I always remember like just even making decisions in high school and stuff, you know, when all the kids were going out and partying. And like, I had, I never wanted to wake up on Saturday morning and being like, oh, my dad would be disappointed in me. Yep.
Starting point is 00:46:18 And that really kept me on the straight and arrow. Yeah. And I just, I think for me as a parent, I try to do the same thing with my kids. Like, just they got to make sure that you're there, you're watching. You're, and I think there's an element to, even that I've come and, you know, you get better as a parent as you get older too. Yep. You know, it's like I think sometimes you're part coach, sometimes you're part teammate, you know,
Starting point is 00:46:41 and I think parents that want to be teammates too much. much is a problem. I think teammates that want to be a coach too much as a problem. But you got to go, I think, back and forth between, hey, this is the reason why. This is why I expect a very high expectations for you. And I'm very invested in this with you. And I want to see you do a better job. And I expect you to be better than that, you know, with that choice or that test or that attitude or that communication. And then certain times, too, as a teammate, like, you want them to come to you and be like, dad, like, listen to what's going on, you know. And then so you can, you know, know, try to guide them through it too. So all good learnings, you know, like I love being a parent.
Starting point is 00:47:18 I love, especially as they've gotten older, it's just been better and better and better. Yeah, I definitely relate to, I mean, growing up, the worst thing that my dad could ever tell me is, man, I'm really disappointed in you. And you're just like, oh, it just cuts straight to the soul. Sure. But then when they're proud of you, you know, you did something right like that, that went a long way with me as a kid growing up. And he was, my dad was always, he traveled a lot when I was growing up. But, I mean, I played everything at a small school here in Texas. Any game I played, he was there. He made a priority to be there at the games.
Starting point is 00:47:47 And, like, as a kid, that meant the world to me. Just seeing him there on the sideline, even if he wasn't coaching my team or whatever, which he did a lot. But just being there and being present, like, meant so much to me growing up. What about now, like, him as a parent and seeing your success. Then you're talking about, like, the dynamic changes, too, of how, you know, hey, you go from, like, hey, now I'm trying to raise this kid. And then there's kind of that, you transition to more, like, that relational friendship with your dad.
Starting point is 00:48:11 and then like now I'm seeing that with I'm fortunate that my grandpa's still around so him and his dad get to spend a lot of time together out at our ranch in Texas and being able to see them still have that when my grandpa just turned 90 years old and like we went and played golf the other day with my 90 year old grandpa
Starting point is 00:48:28 my dad and my 8 year old son Barrett and so to be able to do that with four generations and there's another sport in the world like golf where you can actually do that which is really really special and so I was fortunate like you to have great parents and even grandparents that were around that really poured into me as a kid,
Starting point is 00:48:43 which I think totally changed my trajectory of how I was raised and how I grew up. And what a great example for your son to see your love for your dad and then your dad's love for his dad. And like he's able to pass that on. Yeah. And I told you, like I grew up with my dad
Starting point is 00:49:00 watching you play at Michigan because he was from Detroit. And I remember getting in our media room, 98, 99, like sitting in there with him. And when you guys came on, we were locked. in, glued in, and the lights were off, and we're sitting there, the door closed and watching UVM football.
Starting point is 00:49:15 So, I mean, those are memories that I still think about, you know, with my dad that I got to share. So it's cool. Yeah. Really special. Die-hard Wolverine. What you didn't add, though, is your grandpa beat you by two strokes, which is tough look. He is good.
Starting point is 00:49:27 He is good. He didn't beat me, though. He didn't beat me. Both you gentlemen are lucky enough to have a statue. You got one on the positive wheel spin. I don't even know what happened to that. I don't know either. What happened to your statue?
Starting point is 00:49:37 I don't know. I had one. Unfortunately, not every athlete's, statue looks as good as yours, Tom. We have a couple of subpar statues. Yeah. Let's rank them. All right.
Starting point is 00:49:47 Let's rank them. Were you pleased with your statue turnout? It was a great, very thoughtful gesture by the team and by Mr. Kraft. And the whole organization, you know, I just was a very meaningful time. I think in all of our lives, you know, it transformed the life of an organization, but a community and certainly my life personally, my family's life. So it's just, I don't know, I think that mutually. beneficial aspect to life is is amazing when it works you know if someone doesn't have to you know win
Starting point is 00:50:16 you know and other people lose like it's nice when you know all everybody gets everybody's lives gets improved and i think sports do that in a unique way in our country if you do them the right way yeah and i think to be involved in sports is a blessing because people are paying attention you have a chance to like with the right values with the right humility when people talk you know let's teach people, you know, what real values are. And you can do that through sports and sustained success for a period of time like we had in New England. I think hopefully changed that community for the better for a long time.
Starting point is 00:50:49 So all those kids now who were a part of that growing up and watching how the Rob Gruncowski's and the Teddy Brewskys and the West Welkers and the Edelman's and the Dionne branch and how they handled the success and with class and dignity and, respect like well they can now they have a good example for how to do that and that just proliferates yep that's cool that's the best part about sports it's almost like the statue is symbolic of the journey and everybody that helps you get there and everybody kind of plays the part like yeah it's me but it's really all of us like i actually again part of like the goat thing with them and it's like i even said like i think you should be dead before you have a statue you know but
Starting point is 00:51:30 that's what they're waiting on for me yeah i'm pretty sure i'm pretty convinced i'll maybe i'll stick around for that. Looking at these, what are you thinking? What are you thinking? What stands out to you? I'm letting you go first so you can have been somebody
Starting point is 00:51:42 around off the bat. I've got the number one worst one by far. Trying to find some Those are some really bad ones. Let's see. I mean, the Wayne Gretzky,
Starting point is 00:51:53 I mean, that it looked like is a melted bronze. It's still melting. Jerry Richardson probably looks the best. Yeah. That's not, Jerry got a glow up.
Starting point is 00:52:02 That's incredible. Look at that flow. so stoic and like, yeah, it looks great. AI, that's an interesting crossover. I made them three foot six, too. Yeah, that's the mini, the mini version. Annie Murray looks like a Game of Thrones character. Yeah, Game of Thrones.
Starting point is 00:52:20 Oh my God. Look at the Chelsea Star. Looks like a 1997 FIFA right there. Yeah, that looks like a CGI like Kremlin character. Poor Ronald. That's way off. Yeah, that's, that's. Rinaldo's, it's got to be just the,
Starting point is 00:52:35 worst one I've ever seen. It's got to be. That person probably is out of business now. Is the D-Waiglin? Is that real? It's probably, you know what though? Like, what a scary thing for a sculptor? Because, like, it could make or break you. Like, no one's paying attention if it's like some random soccer. But when you get the Rinaldo statue and then they mess it up, that person's never done a statue. But how do you not have a good enough money? It ended his career. Yeah, that was a career. That's an 0-16 campaign, lost his job type thing. But no longer working in that industry. And it hurts that Christiana Ronaldo, such a sharp-looking dude. Yeah. You know, any mess ups along the way.
Starting point is 00:53:07 That's what I'm saying. How do you get to that point and you don't have a good enough buddy to be like, hey, I think maybe you might want to just just a little, before we unveil it, you know? Yeah. They did Deweigh dirty too. Dewey, that's rough.
Starting point is 00:53:18 That's bad. That one's bad. A combo like Shaq Emmett Smith and. It's got a little limited in there. I don't know what that has in it, but it's crazy. Yeah, they're pretty tough. I will say we're at the AACCD on. Bronze must be a hard thing to work with.
Starting point is 00:53:31 Yeah. Because when you see that, you're kind of like, how can they not really get that right? Well, dude, I can't draw a stick figure, so I'm not the one to judge. I don't have an artistic bone in my body. I figure if they're calling you to do a statue, then you should have some talent. Yeah, the Dirk statue at AAC. We saw it the other night and we were down there and I was reminded how good that one is.
Starting point is 00:53:52 So good. So good. We had your own patent it like one-legged fade to really hammers home. Yeah, it's beautiful. Yeah. This is like Dallas's hero. He was so good. That's amazing.
Starting point is 00:54:03 They really well with it. Wow. Wow, that's incredible. Yeah, with the, with the juror, I mean, it's, it's, it's, it's great. Oh, yeah, see, like, he's going to have a, he's going to be busy for the rest of his life. Yeah. Or his team, or she. I don't even know who did it.
Starting point is 00:54:15 I don't want to. Yeah, that's one of the greats. One of the few that really, really nailed it on the statue side. Yeah. Love that. Dude, I did see the, uh, on this day, 2009. First of all, crazy that it was snowing in New England. Oh, my God.
Starting point is 00:54:28 Dude, those Tennessee throwback, uni's also. Oh, incredible. Incredible. Oh, my God. The people from Houston don't. don't want to do that. But what was more incredible was five tuddies in the second quarter. By the way, you didn't even know those things are happening, you know, and I just...
Starting point is 00:54:43 Just kind of look up and you're like, oh man, I threw five of them bad boys. So the craziest thing is like, it's October in New England, which is, you know, normally the snow will come, like, we're on Thanksgiving or after. So it's like October day. All right, guys, we may get some rain for the game, you know, whatever. All of a sudden we go out there pregame warm up. and it's like almost like a mist and then all of a sudden it turns into these snowflakes
Starting point is 00:55:10 and of course me I played in a lot of snow so I was like I love the snow there's nothing better than throwing a football in the snow. Good old snow football game yeah like the rain is tough the snow the ball doesn't get super wet and they slip all over the place so I'm like oh this is unbelievable and it kept coming down it kept coming down so we go back in change all our stuff And of course, Tennessee had no idea
Starting point is 00:55:31 It was going to be snowing. So they had no gear Appropriate for the snow. So we go in, we've got our whole locker room. You know, you throw on all the right gear. You got all the perfect amount of sleeves. Then we go out to start the game. And it's dumping snow. And we're running flea flickers and, you know, had this electric performance, 59 nothing.
Starting point is 00:55:52 The game ended up being. And it was like, they wanted out of there from like the second series on. And we could, you know, see it. And we were like, Pedal to the metal. So when I look back, I'm like, man, that was. And okay, so check this out. We win the game, 59-0-0.
Starting point is 00:56:07 You have this snowstorm in Foxborough. I live 20 miles from the stadium. Yep. I drive home, there is not a sliver of snow on the ground. Wow. It only snowed in Foxborough. Over the stadium. It literally was like dump.
Starting point is 00:56:23 You were in a snow globe. It was a snow globe. It was a Foxborough Snow Globe day. That's cool, man. I turn it on. rookie mode every once in a while just to see if I can throw for five touchdowns on the video game front. Did you? No.
Starting point is 00:56:34 You didn't get it done? No, but I will. Promise you that. All right. Were you with us when we filmed the Gillette video back in the day, Spark? No, I didn't get invited on that one. No. What was it?
Starting point is 00:56:45 We did a video up there. It was one of the all sports videos that we did up there at the stadium, and we were hitting golf balls from like the second concourse down into the kiddie pool on the field. And I think you guys had just finished up practice or something. And we did. Amazing. We were doing... Have you ever had moments where you've been doing things and thought, like, I can't believe people are letting us do this?
Starting point is 00:57:05 Oh, 100. The Strat. I mean, all sports golf battle at Augusta. I mean, that was... Whoa, whoa. Yeah. Yeah, dude, we got to go to Augusta. We filmed at Amin Corner and filmed all sports golf battle.
Starting point is 00:57:15 No way. At Amin Corner. I can't get on that. It was... How long ago was that? This was three or four years ago? Yeah. Three years ago?
Starting point is 00:57:23 We did with Bryson. Yeah. Oh, that's fun. What time of the year was it? It was right before. before. I was saying it was like March, man. It was like a month before. There were already guys coming out there getting their practice in. Yeah, that's what it was. Dude, I felt horrible being out there. Like I was scared to like take a, you know,
Starting point is 00:57:39 you know, I was scared to step on a blade of grass incorrectly, you know? That was so cool. Yeah. What's your favorite course? Have you ever played? A favorite course. I played a lot. It's, um, they're all different. I mean, it's like. That's a beauty of golf though, isn't it? Yeah. I played Royal County down in Ireland this year. It was a perfect day. It was seven in the morning. We're the first group off. I played really well. That was pretty majestic. I would say Royal County Down. Yep. It was unbelievable. Nice. 70 degree day like in Ireland, no rain. I brought, I packed like a Sherpa. I had so much fully prepared. We had four days of just like epic weather. That's great. Caddies were like,
Starting point is 00:58:16 we've never seen it like this before. I was like, this is crazy. Nice. Yeah. That's special, man. All right. Well, appreciate you joining us, Tom. Thank you so much. Yeah. Thanks, Tom. One last thing, actually. We sent you some gear to get signed from your first visit. Yeah. It must have got lost in the mail or something. Really? Yeah. I'm supposed to have a jersey, but you hadn't got mine, I guess, either. We could fix it. Did I send you? Did you send them one? I did. I must have got the wrong address. Well, you should start throwing me better pitches when we do our home run derby, and I'll start considering you more. Get the whiff of all that out. Okay. I'm ready. I'm ready. Appreciate you.
Starting point is 00:58:48 We got to take care of each other. Thank you, boss. You bet. Happy to be joined by none other than twin number to himself. Corey Cotton. Corey, how we doing, baby? That was a great intro sparky. Thank you. Was Tom's intro longer or shorter than that? Yeah, well, I spend a little more time on Tom's intro. Not that he's more important than you, but he is better looking.
Starting point is 00:59:11 All right, we want you to submit your Almost Athlete moment to be featured on the podcast. If you have a video you want to submit, head to AlmostAthletes.com. Go to the contact us page and submit your best Almost Athlete video. Might be you jumping on the tramp with your kids if you hurt your knee like you're saying you did. That sounds almost an athlete. I went hard on the trampoline with the kids, like 30 minutes. Sound like you went too hard. Me trying to double bounce them.
Starting point is 00:59:34 And then for the next, it's been three weeks. Double bounce your ACL is what it sounds like. I respect that, though, because every kid needs to get double bouncing in California. It's a learning experience, you know. You need that moment in your life. Yeah. Submit the video, let us break down the tape. It will be a good time.
Starting point is 00:59:50 Also, new DP holiday merch collection dropping mid-November. Tons of great gifts for DP fans. And myself, I'm actually looking forward to this line. We're finally getting our merch game. Yeah, it was time. It's time. I need to get my hands on some of that, though. How do I get the new DP? You go to the DudePerfect.com. No freebies in this off. We got like 70 employees now. Incredible. Yeah, but you think six years into this thing, I can get me a hand-me-down. We got, we got to be focused. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:00:14 Do I get an employee discount code at least? I don't think so. No, no. We actually should charge employees more because those are our like guaranteed buys. For sure. That's true. Why would you give it when they want it? Yeah. Sure. Also watch and listen to the pod on the Dude Perfect app. download that on the app store or Google Play, watch all of other videos and other content creators that we have put on the app. It's pretty cool. My kids live on the app on the weekends. My mom lives on the app.
Starting point is 01:00:42 Does she? Yeah, she's probably our number one app. That's a good pickup for us. And then, Corden, you want to hit them with the big, big time announcement. Guys, by far the biggest announcement. I mean, the app is awesome. All those other things are amazing. Merch is great.
Starting point is 01:00:54 But guys, we got a new tour coming. Oh, we're sharing that now? Are dropping. We're there. We're soon. That was green lit. Dude, it's happening. We're going back.
Starting point is 01:01:03 It's happening. Unless you, do you want to cancel it? No, I personally don't. Okay, I definitely don't want to cancel it. I think this year we're changing it up a bit too. We are. And I'm not sure we can release all the details yet.
Starting point is 01:01:11 Just know it's significantly bigger, significantly better. We'll probably come to some repeat cities. But guys, leave a comment of what city we should go to, and we might just change one of our big boy cities to yours. Or if you have a good golf course around it. That is also a really effective way to get us to come to your city. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:01:28 All right, without further ado, is it time for some voicemails? I love this portion. I do, too. You have no idea. We've been getting tons of great messages. We have. So we're going to listen to some of them. If you have a hot take, a question, a ranking, a game you'd like to see on the future
Starting point is 01:01:44 episode. Hit us up. What's the jingle? 972-805, 8866. So we're going to go with the almost athlete theme song. Yeah, yeah. 805. 886.
Starting point is 01:01:57 That's the jingle. Don't forget the 972. 8.05. Did your brother honestly have a word with you? Did he take that? I don't think Ty realized Chase was the one who fished down that number. He took a lot of shots. He deserved to take shots.
Starting point is 01:02:13 It's a horrible number. It could be a lot easier to remember for sure. Well, you can also find the number. If that jingle doesn't pop, stick in your head, almostathletes.com. So, without further ado, voicemail number one. Let's go. What's up, guys.
Starting point is 01:02:29 This is Tanner. So I was wondering, so do you guys think refs should be fine if they make a couple of absolutely terrible calls in a game? Because I get into humans, they messed up. But I'm talking about those calls where it costs their team a game, like some terrible offside calls or a fumble that they are just terrible calls in the game. This is especially for Garrett because I know he's a nice for us very much.
Starting point is 01:02:51 Thanks guys. Keep up with good work. I don't know why I'm directed with all the ref questions, but sure. Tanner's trying to root. you're doing you're doing right now. Tanner, actually talked about it this morning. I do think if you're going to kick a kid out for making a split-second decision to lower the head and accidentally hit the crown of the helmet, and he gets, he only gets a limited number of games in college,
Starting point is 01:03:14 and you're going to kick him out for one of those. 1,000 percent the refs should have that. They should get graded at the end of their thing by a committee, and if you're under a certain cent, like if it's under 80 or whatever, You should get, she should either get fined or have to sit. It's not fair. There's no integrity. There's no accountability.
Starting point is 01:03:34 I mean, dude, here's the simple way that we solve this. I'm shocked this has not been implemented yet. You're right. Targeting immediately kicks you out of the game. If a coach throws a challenge and it's upheld, meaning the ref was wrong. Out of the game. Love that. See ya. Love that.
Starting point is 01:03:51 Kicked out of the game. They have a refus sitting there in the locker room waiting to come in. I was about to say, how do we fix this? They just have a next red. A line judge. Do we get a mascot? who steps in as the back judge? One is the backup ref waiting maybe two or three.
Starting point is 01:04:01 And if two refs get kicked out, you don't need that ref because you're that bad and you go and know the game will be better because of it. The game will be better without it. Here's where I stand. I appreciate the transparency that's taken place in the last couple of years. Like we have our MLB umpiring grade afterwards.
Starting point is 01:04:16 Yeah, I'm not familiar. The one that bothers me is that last two minute report of an NBA game. It's like, oh yeah, we missed the double dribble at the 132 mark. We also missed the back court violation at one. But there's nothing that happens. It's like, hey, appreciate you telling me what I already knew that you blew that game down the stretch. They always have, like, the coaches send in to the SEC or whatever conference around.
Starting point is 01:04:37 They send in the videos or the refs mess ups. But there's nothing that ever happened. No, you're right. And to me, like, there's no accountability there. If, again, if we're willing to kick out a college kid for a split second decision that he's not, it's not malicious. By any means, you should have some accountability. I teeter back and forth on this because I do like the human element of a game where you have a home played umpire giving a ball off the outside corner and you go and you
Starting point is 01:05:05 throw it there. But I also like the thought of getting everything right. So replay for me. It's like very, it's like I want to go full throttle replay, but I also like the human element. I don't know where I stand on that. I think some of the replay is just so funny is like when they're watching a call like a targeting
Starting point is 01:05:25 replay or whatever. and there's like a clear and obvious foul that they missed during that play. Sure. And they're like, oh, can't call it, but everybody in your sister knows it. That tells a look for me there.
Starting point is 01:05:35 I just miss that whole, that face mask right in front of me. But we're going to upheld the targeting year out. Yeah. It's crazy. It is wild. Are you all fully ready to go robot? No,
Starting point is 01:05:46 I'm not saying I want to go robot. I just want there to be accountability. Yes. And again, because at the end of the day, again, if I was a referee, I would make decisions,
Starting point is 01:05:56 based on college allegiances. That's just, you're going to have that. You're going to have that. You can't tell me that, that ref didn't grow up a sports fan. Of course. And cheer for somebody associated. So like every game that I would ref against Texas, I would make them lose.
Starting point is 01:06:12 They would not allow you to do that. Yeah, you wouldn't make for a great ref, Gary, to be honest with you. But I would be just like every other ref who just like they call lopsided games, no consistency. And I mean, I'd probably get a pay raise like those. other guys do until there's accountability. You can't even measure the level of bitterness
Starting point is 01:06:31 that just seeps out of this guy when it comes to refs. You bring up the R word, his passion goes. Guys, can we just talk about it? Can we talk about it? The egregious, egregious call on Texas A&M when Marcel had a 52-yard run to seal the game.
Starting point is 01:06:47 Go back and watch go back and watch the holding that they called. Now go back and watch every holding call. I have pictures. if you want me to prove it. I took pictures of my, of my TV, of the egregious holding calls that they non-called on Arkansas
Starting point is 01:07:03 to give Green the 55-yard third and 30 run. Sure. It's just, it's crazy to me. And go listen to, I think Tim, Tim Donahey, that was his name. Yeah. I mean, he basically said it in the podcast. I can make any amount of,
Starting point is 01:07:18 I can sway a game, any direction I want in a matter of minutes. Scary. He did say that. He would be a great guest. He would be. He would be. Ficey in here. Donahey on the pod.
Starting point is 01:07:27 Let's go, Donahey. So you're welcome. Everyone, we did solve it today, though, I think is where we landed. If players can be tossed, then ref should be tossed in the game. Reff throws a challenge flag. If he is right, meaning the ref is wrong. The coach is out. Bye, bye.
Starting point is 01:07:44 The coach is out. Oh, guys, everybody. Everybody is in the dunk tank. Yeah, dude. You got to be ready to get tossed. If you're going to challenge a guy's job, you got to put your job on the line. is so good. Who are we going to call Greg Sanky and just get this in the SEC at a
Starting point is 01:07:59 minimum? That's why you would just challenge every refurb play if you didn't have some sort of reprecate, but yeah, maybe it's two again, if on the second one you get right, the refs gone. On the second wrong, the coach, you're gone. Yeah. Offensive coordinator now leading the charge. Checks and
Starting point is 01:08:16 balances. We got this figured out. That's why I can see head coach is purposely missing. It's how they should find, how they run sports. I agree. Checks and balances. Sanky, Adam Silver. I want to call the hotline. You're more than welcome to join. People think this podcast is just for fun. We are moving mountains over here. Great question. Hey, dude, perfect. If you could rename any sport in America, what would you rename it?
Starting point is 01:08:42 And which sport would it be? Thanks. Yeah, I think we're going to go down the exact same lane here. Me and you. Football is the one. It's got to be. Because I wasn't going to go down that lane. I was going to go down cricket. Wow. because it just totally leads you astray. It's like a bug. It doesn't weird in America very well. It just doesn't make any sense.
Starting point is 01:09:03 Well, I'm like full non-metric system guy. You can get behind that, but we did falsely identify football. Yeah, it's proper. And I have caught myself being a soccer fan. Would you call it handball? I don't know what I would change it, but it needs to be changed.
Starting point is 01:09:17 Because I will refer to soccer as football now, as a respect to the rest of the world since they call it football. That's football. Yeah. That is a simple fix. translates as football. I would change American football into something else.
Starting point is 01:09:32 Handag, that's the lame one everyone says. I always thought that's tough. Hand egg is brutal. That's like us calling our first video backyard stuntman, which we almost did, by the way. That would actually be the biggest regret. Well, instead of D.P., it would have been BS and that you can't. Pickleball 2 is kind of, to your point, cricket, it makes you think something differently.
Starting point is 01:09:53 What would you go with core? For pickleball? just anything. No, I was for sure going to say soccer, football. That seems like the obvious one. Yeah, that's the one. I explained it to my kids the other day
Starting point is 01:10:03 that soccer, why do you think it's called soccer versus football because football's with your foot? And they're like, oh, it makes a lot of sense. And if it makes sense to a five-year-old, we should probably be taking that level of honesty. Congrats to basketball. Those done right.
Starting point is 01:10:17 It was done right. Yeah. I mean, basically as precise as any sport has ever been named, put a ball into a basket, let's move on. That would be some good questions. Yeah, they are good questions. Hey, boys, what's up?
Starting point is 01:10:29 My name is Daniel. I'm from Virginia. I've been a fan since I was like 10 years old, and I'm 22 now. So it's good to talk to you guys. I was wondering, if America didn't have any other sports except for soccer, do you think that we could win the World Cup against every other nation in the world? Yeah, let me know your thoughts. Thanks.
Starting point is 01:10:51 Bye. This is a question that we have posed internally. Many a times. Yeah. I think the answer is yes. I think the answer is definitely. Yeah, I think it's a resounding yes. Just like we do in basketball.
Starting point is 01:11:04 Who's your starting back line? I mean, go grab any NFL defensive backs, and I like our chances. Yeah. But could you imagine, like, Calvin Johnson in net for the Americans? Dude. LeBron James is a CB. Tyreek Hill running down the right side. But he's like, yeah, he's like the left back.
Starting point is 01:11:22 I mean, you're telling me Metcalf couldn't be a Holland out there. and purely a numbers game, too. There's a lot of people in the United States of America. And you've got to think about how many multi-sport athletes we have. Kevin Durand is a striker. Put all your time and focus squarely into soccer. We don't only win the World Cup. It's not even a fun worldwide event because it's not even competitive.
Starting point is 01:11:43 I'd go that far with that. Can you imagine just loft in a ball to Kevin Durant? He jumps, you know, 40 inches, just heads it in. Yeah, I like the thought of it, too. I actually think the Americans are going to shock some people next year at the World Cup. Who's your mid-feeling? Gosh, that's a good question. I would love to sit down and build out our starting 11.
Starting point is 01:12:03 It's a good one. We should build out a starting. The ultimate starting 11. Like LeBron James is obviously on our team, right? He's the super sense of. It kind of goes back into our top athlete conversation. I did feel bad about leaving Michael Phelps off the top 10 athletes. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:12:18 I missed that. He did. He got left off. He got left off. And I was like, how many gold medals does a dude have to win before he's on? But I would also leave them off the soccer team. Fair. And that was kind of to your point as to why you
Starting point is 01:12:28 wasn't on your top 10. Oh, man. I know. It's a phenomenal question in the answer is most definitely yes. Yes, I agree. That's a good question. Absolutely.
Starting point is 01:12:36 Yeah, how bad are we winning? Are we 18-2 in them? I think we might. To the point where ratings wouldn't even be good. Yeah. You'd sympathize for Thailand as soon as they landed in our group.
Starting point is 01:12:45 It's like we're the Russia, like Russian hockey. It's like, oh, and Brazil is playing the mighty USA. You're like, that'd be sick. I actually like that we prioritize other sports, though I love soccer. It gives the rest of the world something to play for. You did say a minute ago that you call it football, but you just called it soccer. It's leadership on the USA side.
Starting point is 01:13:06 It's a leadership. It's just something to point out. Oh, this next one. This next question could get spicy. All right, dudes, I got a quick question for you. Name's Tanner coming at you from Provo, Utah. Where do you had a Tanner call? I know we've said it.
Starting point is 01:13:22 I know we've all thought it. it, but I want to see it. Who's the best twin? Will that ever be a segment on overtime? It's a good question. I'm thinking a little, you know, twin versus twin. They go at it, different tasks, different sports. We've got to find out who's the best twin in life, not just in sports.
Starting point is 01:13:44 Oh, life. And everything. All encompassing. Tanner, twin battle. I never thought that. So I'll say this about. the twins. And I tell a lot of fans this when we go with though like if you're taking all of life in the play this gets way harder in life Tanner just brought in like laundry skills. Yeah that's what I'm saying
Starting point is 01:14:03 the thing is they basically live the same life we do though so that's what makes this really difficult one thing I will say about the twins very genuine thorough really good people I actually kind of want you to close your ears for this because I don't want to try to boost you too much I'll close them but like I'll feed them with some trash talk because I feed off that and they'll always make spark you look good today and I'm like just call me short they're incapable of going there But they truly are two of the same. You're good now, brother. Am I good now?
Starting point is 01:14:27 Yeah, you're fine. Did you say something to be nice? No, not really. In fact, you really didn't even need to close your ears, but. Okay. What would you say on this scare? Well, I think it's going to come down to something really small. Athletically, very even.
Starting point is 01:14:40 Thank you. What about height? Even. You might be, are you higher? Are you taller? I don't know. Sometimes I think he squeaks me out. Sometimes I think I squeaks him out.
Starting point is 01:14:49 So if we're talking like athletically, and sports, like, yeah, there could be a sport. Kobe claims he's like a better soccer player. He's probably better at kicking a ball than me, but I wouldn't say either of us are great. He doesn't even know what foot he is. No, he's confused to watch. Yeah, he's confused.
Starting point is 01:15:05 Oh, he's got the Allison Jones syndrome? Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, it's like, am I right? Am I left? It's like, bro, you're right. You're right foot. I didn't know. He thinks he's a lefty.
Starting point is 01:15:12 He does. Which is a disgrace to being a lefty. Sure. But it's fine. I think we're pretty close athletically. So now if we just bring in life. So he beat me academically in high school. I'll hand it to him.
Starting point is 01:15:25 He was a better test taker than me. We were both good at academics. But I like to tell people, well, I don't like to tell people because it's embarrassing. But since this is a safe place, we'll go there. In college, we in Texas A&M. We both graduate, obviously, same day, obviously backed back names being read on the podium. And we walk out, he goes first. And they go, now presenting John Kobe Cotton, Summa Cum Laude.
Starting point is 01:15:51 Yeah, everything. Long claps, all the stuff. His little intro kind of took as long as Tom Brady's, for example. And then now presenting William Corey Cotton. Oh, and that was it. And that was it, just a lot shorter. Because he squeaked me out, right? He got right over that edge to where you get some extra stuff set about yourself.
Starting point is 01:16:11 That was tough. Academically, he said it himself. Kobe's the better academic. How big of a gap we talk in there? Not that big. Because cum laude doesn't mean much to me. No, I mean, it was like a, that's a, like gear level stuff.
Starting point is 01:16:22 Yeah. He beat me by a point or two, you know, which at the end of the day, I spent significantly less time studying than him and we both ended up in the same place. So I think the real winner.
Starting point is 01:16:33 So you got the street smarts? I would think so. There's no question. Kobe's kind of like... Kobe's more smart smart. He didn't see it? Yeah. Right in front of them?
Starting point is 01:16:43 Yeah, like Kobe growing up in classes, like if we had a group project, I would definitely just hands off knowing that 1,000% he was going to finish it because he's just that type of guy. And that's kind of the middle child versus first child birth order thing. Like he would clean up the mess, right? If neither of us did.
Starting point is 01:17:04 I think you basically just said Kobe's the right answer here. No, no, because here's a deal. Or you could argue that that was smarter. Yeah, there's just, if you're bringing in a lot, there's so many things. Corey, better storyteller than Kobe. I don't even know who does y'all's finances. like if it's you were you or your wife or Kobe and Aubrey I just feel like you're probably pretty even there
Starting point is 01:17:26 when it comes to just Kobe's probably got a better haircut than me right now at least if you're like a younger person I think he's got a good flow right now he doesn't he has really good flow but he also again who what what's the win there Kobe spends an hour on his hair ever again right of time right like Corey dude if you if you're sitting on your deathbed and you know Corey's like I didn't waste nine years of my life doing my hair
Starting point is 01:17:47 If you had it up. You got the better. You won in the hair game, but... Yeah, but did you? Nine years of your life is gone. Boom, just like that. It's not a fun answer, but it's very much a coin flip.
Starting point is 01:17:58 It's so 50-50 on this. Yeah. It is 50-50. Yeah. Yeah, good question. I'd say due to the fact he has more battle wins, I'll give it to him.
Starting point is 01:18:06 Does he? Oh, yeah. Kobe is more battle wins? You're acting with shock by that? I'm pretty sure you got... Well, Kobe went forever without winning a battle. That's true. Wait, can we look that up super fast?
Starting point is 01:18:13 You definitely have more wheel spins. I definitely have more wheels spins. Who has more battle wins? Does Kobe or Corey? I'm genuinely going to be surprised if that's true. We'll give the winner to this. I mean, for sure, he was a slow starter. He was a slow starter.
Starting point is 01:18:26 Maybe he blew past me. Saying Corey has more battle wins than Kobe online. There you go. I apologize. That settles it. How much more? How many more? Corey's wins are cited more.
Starting point is 01:18:37 Let's see, hold on. Wow, it's separated by one win? Corey's. And I'm only one above you. I have one more battle win than Kobe, which means we are going to end this. conversation today. No reason to give this any more time. Yeah, Corey's the better, twin. We're going to solve this today. Thanks so much, Tanner, for the call.
Starting point is 01:18:54 I appreciate that. Goodness, I didn't realize I was the Las Vegas athletics down there with a 10% win percentage. All right, Tanner. Yeah, sorry we debated that. Corey's obviously the answer there. As earlier, the jingle for the phone number, we did have a submission for the jingle. Should we listen to it? Yeah, absolutely. All right. Need all the help we can get. Hey, what's up, dudes? This is Daniel Rainbolt. I love listening to you with my wife and three sons. I wanted to tackle the question of the jingle there for the phone number. That is Rainbolt's with a bolt two, not a boat. Don't get that confused, sensitive subject. But yeah, so here we go. I don't know if this is cheesy enough for a jingle for you or not, but here we go. If you want to talk to the door, here's the perfect number.
Starting point is 01:19:47 48 972-805 8805 8 886 enjoy it I'm never getting that out of my head I love this guy I want to be very respectful
Starting point is 01:20:04 if you want to talk to the dudes here's the number for you 9 7 to 8 oh and he went like kind of opera opera on us like JG went worse a little bit on us. It's a furniture storage.
Starting point is 01:20:20 Wow. Yeah. Anyways. It takes a lot of courage to do that though. It does take a lot of courage. As always, 972-805-8866. Leave your questions. We're still searching for the jingle.
Starting point is 01:20:31 Let's leave it like that. Leave your phone. Jingle submissions. Leave us who you think the best twin is. We'll tally them up. And, uh... Whoa. We were talking about the jingle,
Starting point is 01:20:45 but you know what that means, Garrett. Two minute. warning and I actually have one today. Yeah, I think you just take the whole two minutes because this is, I don't even need two minutes to get my point across. Yeah, I appreciate it. I appreciate it. I don't want this to come off as like I'm some Grinch, anti-Christmas guy, but we have got to talk about the people.
Starting point is 01:21:02 I don't know even attach names, but they know who they are. Chad Coleman. Thank you. The need to put up Christmas lights and or tree in October is so premature. And for those of us who do love Christmas, but in a timely manner, they kind of get burnt doubt on it. It's like tailgating for a 7 o'clock kickoff at 6 a.m. Just a little too premature. Can we not wait? Have a little respect for Halloween. Have a little respect for Thanksgiving. Well, I see, that's where you lose me. That's where you lose me. I agree with you on the Halloween.
Starting point is 01:21:31 But it's okay to have a tree. Now, with Thanksgiving, with Thanksgiving. It's okay to have that. The day after. Black Friday, you want to start right then and there? Boom. You're cleared for takeoff. But let Thanksgiving has it have its day. It's a joke. What about Christmas lights on the house before Thanksgiving? No. What? I don't want a movie. I don't want Christmas songs until just, that's all I'm asking for. Black Friday, then unload.
Starting point is 01:21:54 You get a month to celebrate. We don't need the three-months selly. Well, I got to tell you, man, there's been Christmas songs going on in my house since August because my kids piano recital. They're playing Christmas songs. I mean, dude, I straight up have memorized every Christmas song at this point. Beautiful, by the way. Kids are doing a great job.
Starting point is 01:22:12 But it's been Christmas in our house since August 15th. And you're going to be burnt out by December 12th. Wait till the 25th comes. You're going to feel exhausted. You're not even getting into the Christmas spirit. I'm already in the Christmas spirit. I can't wait for Santa to come. You want to say some things.
Starting point is 01:22:24 Well, look, I just keeping it short here, I think you're going to lose this battle. Am I? Yeah. I think there's actually some people out there who are like, I'm glad Sparky said it because I couldn't bring myself to say it. There is a horde of people that agree with you. But in general, the creep of Christmas, as long as it's in the Thanksgiving window, if you're going much before that, I agree. That's too much. I do have a rant.
Starting point is 01:22:46 Speaking of, you, you've positioned a rant for me. Okay. Okay. You know what? As I hear you, I respect your opinion. Thank you. And now I'm going to straight up talk to the psychotic people who put crazy things in their yard for Halloween. I mean, these things are getting ridiculous.
Starting point is 01:23:03 What is Halloween? What are you doing on Halloween? Dress up as a minion and go get candy? Yeah. Trick or treat. You trick or treat. Who trick or treats? Kids.
Starting point is 01:23:10 The kiddos. Kids. Why are we putting things like hanging from trees with their heads cut off? Yeah. I mean, what are we trying to do here? It's crazy the decorations we're going now. It's crazy. It's excessive.
Starting point is 01:23:21 I mean, this isn't a haunted house. You pay for those things. You don't need it in your front yard. It's where you need HOA to step up. They don't either. They don't. I think every HOA leader. I like a good Halloween decoration.
Starting point is 01:23:32 It's just some of these are getting excessive. We don't need a 40 foot by 30 foot casper though. We don't need a real life lady. We don't need a real life lading crawling out of a TV like the ring does. Okay. That's crazy. Can you all remember? We don't have to talk about it,
Starting point is 01:23:45 To Gare's point, every single one of us is scarred by at least one Halloween memory of trick-or-treating going up to a house that was excessive. Like a jump scare moment that's just like, whoa. It's for the kids. Now, if this was an adult-only trick-or-treat, do what you will. But that doesn't exist. That doesn't exist. Anyways, ran over. I appreciate you coming up with that one.
Starting point is 01:24:05 I'm way to you. I'm more Gares' rant than Sparky's tonight. And I want to finish by saying I'm very, very much pro-Christmas. No, I know you are. He doesn't sound like it. He's not. He's not, guys. Put it in the comments. I know you are.
Starting point is 01:24:14 but you want to enjoy your pumpkin spice latte all the way up through Thanksgiving. I agree with that. I just don't want to watch Christmas story on the 25th and I've already seen 37 Christmas movies. That's all. That's all. I'm just asking for a ton to be oversaturated. Looks like our time is up here.
