Valle, I'm in a fashion responsible.
The conditions apply.
Today's story is Mori by Ghost Inc.
I could hear the voices, small voices that continuously got louder until it came together.
Her screams and tearful shrieks of my name, all impacting at once.
Rosie's call for me to save her from the filthy monsters that touched her.
I took her away from me, and her it stood in front of me, staring back at me.
taunting me with its presence.
Daddy, a voice spoke below me.
My eyes quickly shot down, seeing a face so familiar to me.
Rosie, with her sweet smile.
My mind baffled by the thought of her being in front of me.
I couldn't really think of a solid answer,
other than an illusion for my own thoughts becoming clouded.
Though I got my answer when Rose is.
Rosie said something that was odd to me.
Her voice deepened as she spoke once again.
Ethan, she said.
Shaking my head, my eyes cleared to see Joseph standing in front of me concerned.
I felt something cold dripping down my right eye.
Touching it, a tear grabbed onto my finger.
Ahead of me, the creature still stood.
Joseph could see it, clear as day, just the same as me.
Unlike him, however, I had my gun with me.
Everything that's all happened tonight, my energy was near its limits, but the opportunity was right in front of me.
Everything I wished for was now, and if I missed it, who knows how long until they returned, and by then...
By then, Rosie wouldn't be alive.
I worked here for the simple reason of getting Rosie back alive, to be protected by me.
A clock ticks in my head as my decision has such little time.
Before I could make up my mind, Joseph nudged me.
Whatever you're thinking of doing, Ethan, the risk is too high without backup.
You know better than anyone what they are capable of, Joseph said, putting his arm in front of me.
But, Rosie, I mentioned.
Look, you've taught me a lot, but let me teach you.
You can't go alone regardless of you being the highest rank within us.
I lost my parents.
I can't lose you too.
After all these years, am I really going to give up the chance?
I understand his reasoning, but he doesn't understand my reasoning on what I've decided.
Not wanting to risk never getting this chance again.
I didn't want to do this to him.
Joseph, I'm sorry.
I said.
He turned around confused, only for me to run past him, catching him off guard.
Ethan!
He yelled toward me in a panic.
Without looking back, I grabbed my pistol from my side.
Anger rushed through my veins as I faced the hooded creature ahead of me.
It almost immediately began to run away, causing me to miss a shot that I fired.
Turning and facing down the alleyway, the creature attempted to make a turn on the right,
only for me to get on its arm.
Black Blood splattered as it whimpered away.
Running down the alley, puddles soaked my shoes and splashed within each step.
I could feel victory coming to me.
Turning to the right from where it fled, it was backed against a wall.
Black Blood still oozing down its arm.
My pistol aimed directly towards its head as a smirk crossed my face at the sight of seeing this monster being in such pain.
I didn't want to hesitate to kill it, causing me to shoot once more.
This time, however, a bullet did not come out.
I didn't reload it on my way to chase this creature.
I knew that it realized my mistake just as well as I did as the sound of clicking is the only thing that triggered.
My eyes opened wide and shocked as its left hand raised up high.
Joseph came from behind me, his hand out to grab onto my hoodie.
My eyes filled with confusion and shock.
I couldn't comprehend how fast things were going until it all hit.
Ethan!
He yelled with the worried expression painted upon his face.
Before I could respond, the sound of snapping fingers ringed within my ears.
Time itself seemed to stop, but only for a brief moment.
Before I knew it, I found myself in a pitch black area, too familiar from my own taste.
Looking around to give a better idea of where I could be,
nothing but black surrounded me.
Despite it being black, I could still see myself entirely,
as if I was light myself.
Regardless, nothing made sense in the slightest.
My breath could be seen yet it didn't feel cold nor warm.
Was this limbo, perhaps?
Joseph!
I yelled, only for my voice to echo back.
With no voice to be heard, I decided to continue moving.
Each step I took, sounds of splashing water hit beneath me.
I only ignored it for the sake of slowing down possible time.
Eventually, what can only be assumed as a few yards,
a spotlight lit in front of me.
Underneath it, a large mirror stood.
Despite my curiosity,
I took caution approaching it.
If it was a possible way out of this hell, then I was taking it.
Upon closer inspection, my left eye flickered a weird color.
Confused on why my eye was doing that, I looked closer.
My left eye then lit into a neon blue, causing myself to jump back.
Falling back, something hit me from behind.
Looking into the mirror once again, my eyes widened at who was by,
behind me. A black mask, a white hoodie, crossed out eyes of neon blue. Without hesitating,
I swung my knife that was on my right side, only for him to not be there. The ticking of a
clock echoed behind me, the mirror gone as I turned around. Instead, he stood with a stopwatch
in hand. Looking upon me, I could feel as if he was smiling at me. Ethan, he said, he said,
said with a slight deep tone.
Must you be foolish?
Must you be so reckless?
Now atone.
He snapped his fingers of his left hand.
A weird sound came from both sides of me.
I couldn't move my legs at all.
Before I could speak, two large hands popped up from both sides of me.
My first instinct was to get both of my arms out,
the hands pushing them from crushing me.
My arms instantly felt the pain of being crushed by the force.
A shockwave of force surrounded my body at once.
I wanted to scream out in pain.
My bones felt as if they were going to crack at any moment.
Then another sharp pain pierced me.
This time, through my skin.
My right arm, a bone began piercing through it, ripping more of my skin off.
I could feel my right arm giving out almost instantly.
As it fell off the giant hand, my eyes widened in horror as it came slamming towards.
me. I couldn't move. My legs refused. Just about to accept the fate brought to me. The hand stopped
as another snap from fingers echoed. Turning my head, he stood there, closing his stopwatch.
Perfect. Simply perfect, he said, stuffing the stopwatch in his pocket. I could have sworn that he
laughed, but I had no energy to talk. His hands clapped and darkness fully smudged myself.
The sound of wind gusting around my ears allowed my eyes to burst open to a bright lime light,
rubbing them before I could get a clear picture of where I was.
The floor beneath me felt mushy but dry at the same time.
My eyes cleared as if I've been in the dark for a long time, finally able to see where I was.
This whole area felt like it was dying if it wasn't already dead.
The green winds and light proved it to be.
Looking to my right arm, it was back to normal, yet it felt as though it still lingered.
I wasn't dreaming, whatever this was.
Before I stood up, in front of me, it was a large opening into the woods.
The woods themselves were dark despite there being new leaves, yet the opening was an imitation.
The trees curved towards each other, almost making a complete circle.
As much as I knew the cost of what could happen, I was already there, and this seemed to be what I needed to go through.
My pistol was on the ground beside me.
Checking the clip, I had five rounds left.
I was confused as to why the bullets from before didn't fire, but I didn't have the time to really focus on that right then.
standing in front of the entrance, a heavy presence sat upon my shoulder.
I knew what happened next.
I would have to get out of here alive.
One thing did cross my mind, however.
Did Joseph come here with me?
He was there when everything froze, yet there wasn't a sign of him anywhere.
I hoped he wasn't here, because if he was lost or...
Well, it was my fault regardless.
Taking a step in, I had my gun ready for anything to pop out.
I kept walking down the path full of dead trees.
As I walked waiting for anything to pop out, something caught my attention at the end of this path.
A massive tree stood within an open field, surrounded by this weird, mushy dirt from before.
My eyes opened wide to something that was pink.
A tear almost fell out of my eye at the sight of what I saw.
The object was the hat of Rosie, and her dress that she wore also lied beside it.
However, I wasn't able to mourn when the hooded creature came out from behind the tree, as if it was waiting for me.
I didn't hesitate to try shooting at it.
The creature raised a hand and the bullets stopped in midair.
Tears rushed through my eyes as I realized how powerless I was.
was. My legs gave out, causing me to fall to my knees, sulking away as pain ached my heart.
It's not fair, I yelled. Rosie! I slammed my fist onto the ground, frustrated with the situation
I was in. Tears dripped from my face as my reality crumbled. Looking up, the creature had its
hands together, humiliating me completely.
Damn you! I stuttered.
to yell, crying, making it hard to speak.
I tried to move myself up only for the hooded creature to clap its hands together.
The ground beneath me began to rumble.
Realizing what was about to happen, I didn't have time to react.
Soon, the ground fell out, causing me to tumble down.
Rocks, sharp and blunt, hit me from every corner of my body as I kept falling.
Eventually, I made it to the bottom.
my arms not able to move.
Looking over, the upper bone of my arms split through the skin.
Almost accepting the fate I was given, something caught my eye ahead of me.
More tears ran through my face when I saw someone familiar.
Joseph.
He sat across from me.
Blood seemingly dried upon his head as he laid unconscious.
Using my left arm and injured legs, I managed to get up.
Before I could celebrate, odd sounds came from multiple directions.
Looking around, egg-like objects began to move.
Realizing the situation, I grabbed my knife from my side and quickly ran towards Joseph.
Halfway toward him, a bug-like creature with massive pincers jumped out of its egg to attack me.
Without sparing a second of thought, I moved my destroyed right arm over as the creature stabbed right through it.
I groaned from the pain.
Thankfully, my adrenaline was up to the point that I could ignore most of it.
Using my left hand, I stabbed the creature in the head and yanked its head off my arm.
Blood dripped everywhere and my consciousness was fading exponentially.
Hurrying my way over, another one of the creature snuck behind me and pierced through my leg.
Screeching in pain, I quickly tried to stomp on it.
Though as I was distracted, another.
dashed toward Joseph. Seeing this, I threw my knife toward it only for luck to be on my side.
Successfully, it went through its center, which also allowed me to stomp the wand on my leg off.
Slowly moving myself over, eventually falling to the floor to the point that I had to crawl to him.
Shaking him, yelling at him, I did what I could to wake him up.
Almost at the point of giving up, Joseph finally coughed and woke up.
up. Without thinking, I hugged him. Tears flooded my eyes as I did so. He was alive.
Ethan? What's going on? He asked, still regaining his consciousness. We're in the home of those creatures,
I responded. Great. Let's get out of here, he said getting up. I still sat on the ground,
against the wall that he was on. He turned to see me follow.
only to be left confused on why I didn't get up with him.
Come on.
We got to get out of here, he said, concerned filling his voice.
I won't be able to leave with you this time.
I said, looking down with a frown.
This isn't a joke, Ethan.
Come on, please.
Joseph raised out his hand to pick me up only for me to push it aside.
His concerned look swiftly changed to worry.
I don't understand.
I can't move.
My whole body is busted, I explained.
I can carry you.
I shook my head, causing him to kneel down as tears filled his crystal-like eyes.
I'm not losing you, damn it.
After all we've gone through, all you've taught me?
No, I can't lose you, he pleaded.
Joseph, ever since I met you, I've grown fond of you.
I understand your pain besides it being different.
I always saw you as a son.
Protecting you was my goal, yet I almost failed.
You can't die because of me, Joseph.
You need to get out of here while you still can.
I commanded.
His tears felt like a waterfall down his face.
He could not face reality ahead of him.
I didn't want to lose this kid either.
He was one of the few people that I'd met that had actually made me smile.
No matter how you feel,
Always remember, I'll be right there.
I said as I pointed toward his heart.
He eventually stood up, wiping his tears away as he knew what he had to do next.
My gun fell over there.
It has four bullets left, so use it wisely.
Don't make my mistakes.
Don't end up like this.
Ethan.
I finally get what it means.
The pain of it all.
I only had the teeth.
taste of it once when I lost my parents, but now I can get the full picture.
Death?
All of it.
I'll use what you've taught me.
I'll use what I can to keep moving.
Thank you for being there for me, Ethan.
Honestly, I wouldn't be alive without you, he said.
A smile grew on my face, tears running down my cheeks as I watched him climb up.
I could see him look back once before leaving entirely from my sight.
I closed my eyes for the last time when the sound of more eggs opening came about.
I awaited as they all ran towards me.
Before I knew it, they were pouncing onto me.
Their pincers feasting upon my flesh, but I couldn't feel it.
Most of my blood was gone by this point anyway.
The sound eventually doled from my ears.
The feeling from my body stopped all at once.
Darkness fogged my entire vision until the sound of wind against grass.
hit my ear opening my eyes a clear sky revealed itself sitting up I found myself
I found myself in a plains area full of tall grass wherever this was it wasn't normal I
I don't believe I'm dead yet look keeps sticking the sound echoing through the
halls of what you hide from where we can we sit
waiting for an answer watching you play around constantly you had no response has
ever heard from you you sit and hide for how long how many times will you break
for you to fix it
