Starting point is 00:01:17 I have a story that happened to me and my wife back in July of 1998. We were both fairly young. I think I was 22 at the time. which would have made her 23. The two of us had moved away pretty much as soon as we could, and had made a comfortable little life for ourselves about three states away from where we grew up. Of course, this meant, and still does mean, that we have to fly back home anytime anything important, or worthy of celebrating, happens to our family.
Starting point is 00:02:03 Well, in this particular year, My sister was getting married, and she wanted to have her wedding on July 3rd, which would mean that our whole family would be there to celebrate on July 4th. Normally, we hadn't flown back on the 4th, but because my sister was getting married, we were pretty much told that it was important to do so. So, we packed our bags and got ready for the trip back home. We had, of course, decided that flying would be our preferred method of life. travel, as neither of us wanted to spend a ton of time driving across the Midwest. This was also pre-2001,
Starting point is 00:02:45 so flying was a bit more laid back, and there wasn't a ton of security to make the event stressful. We got to the airport and parked the car, and then got into the building. We got our luggage checked, went through the basic security checks to get out of the lobby area, where the gates are, by the time we were there and ready, we still had about an hour and a half before our flight. So, we decided to just kind of hang out. Again, 1998, so we didn't have phones or a laptop to kill time with, unfortunately. About 30 minutes into us sitting there, I had started to doze off, and my wife was pretty much nose down into the book that she was reading.
Starting point is 00:03:34 when I heard a man saying something that I couldn't quite make out. I then heard my wife respond to him, and this made me jump up from my half-asleep state to fully awake. When I opened my eyes and sat up, I think it kind of startled the guy because he sort of jumped a bit too. When he noticed I was awake, he seemed to no longer be interested in standing in front of us, kind of just shuffled away.
Starting point is 00:04:04 It was weird, but I just laughed and then looked over to her and asked what the hell he had wanted. She said that he asked her if she knew how to fly a plane, and when she said no, he said that he could teach her if she was interested. And apparently that was the entirety of the conversation. I said all right, and then decided that it wasn't worth too much more attention, and that I would just go back to my nap. No more than around 15 minutes or so later, there was an announcement over the speakers at the airport that was asking everyone to remain where they were and stated that there was a situation that was being dealt with.
Starting point is 00:04:49 They then stated that this may cause delays and apologized for the inconvenience. It was a bit strange for an announcement to be made to the entire airport, but I assumed that there was something going on with the systems or air control or something like that. We still had at least half an hour until we got on the plane, so I wasn't too terribly worried about the whole thing. That is, until about five or so minutes later when the police showed up.
Starting point is 00:05:22 And it wasn't just one or two officers. It looked like it was the entire police department for the county. They were all wearing what looked like tactical gear, and several of them had the big guns. They were sweeping the floor asking people for ID and to see their tickets. Most people were checked, and then they were told to go to the other end of the lobby, and that was that. However, a few of us were checked and then told to wait by the opposite wall
Starting point is 00:05:53 while they finished the sweep. Then, when they got those of us against the second wall, they started pulling us away individually and asked, asking us strange questions. They actually pulled myself and my wife apart before they started talking to us. I remember the questions seemed incredibly strange at the time. The first thing the officer asked me for was my full name and address. Then he asked me where I was going.
Starting point is 00:06:22 I told him everything and said that we were going to visit my family, and he started asking me why we were headed there, who exactly we were going to see. just a ton of really personal questions about our trip. Then he asked me if I was aware of what was going on, and I told him I had no idea. He then asked if I had spoken to anyone in the airport while I was there. At first I told him no, but then I mentioned that some random dude came up and asked my wife if she knew how to fly a plane.
Starting point is 00:06:58 He nodded at my answer, and then told me to go ahead and get back to. with the group. Around this time, they had finished asking my wife the questions as well, and she went back with me to the wall. This was pretty much where we stayed for another hour, which put us as late for takeoff on our flight, but no one was able to go anywhere. The officers had put the entire airport on what was essentially a lockdown. Then, a little while after that, the announcement came back through and mentioned that we all needed to go to our gates, and that they would begin boarding specific flights, and taking off as soon as possible. We got to our gate, and we waited as every other flight seemed to be boarding but ours.
Starting point is 00:07:48 Then, we pretty much found out why our flight wasn't going anywhere, and why the police were scrutinizing our group more than the others. As we were sitting there, several officers came through the boarding area from where our plane was sitting, and they were basically carrying that man from earlier, the one that asked my wife about flying the plane. He was screaming incoherently as they took him out of the tunnel thing, and out of the airport altogether. Obviously, this was a bit strange. None of us had been able to board, so him being on the plane was a bit odd. after they had gotten him out of the airport
Starting point is 00:08:31 and as they were wrapping the scene up I actually stopped one of the officers and I asked him what exactly had happened thankfully he was one of the cops that had questioned me so he was willing to inform me he said this guy had somehow gotten past the security people at the gate and then managed to get onto the plane
Starting point is 00:08:53 when only the pilots were on he then trying to break down the door to the captain's area, saying that he needed to get in so he could fly the plane because he needed to teach his new girlfriend. Obviously, they put on the call with security immediately, but then they asked him about who his friend was, where he was flying to. He told them it was the pretty lady he just met in the airport. This would be why they were asking my wife and I about the whole thing.
Starting point is 00:09:26 My guess, they saw us talking to him. him on the security cameras and wanted to make sure we weren't in on some plot to hijack a plane. Thankfully, the guy seemed to be completely nuts, so once we gave them our information and both told them that we didn't know the guy that was talking to us, they were happy with it and determined that he was acting alone. That was pretty much the end of it. The officers stayed at the airport until all the passengers were on the plane, and we took off as normal without any issues. We were about an hour or so late getting in, but that really
Starting point is 00:10:04 wasn't a big deal, especially since we now had one hell of a story to tell the family. Bejewa aboard Viyarai. Embarked and profite. Embarked and relaxed. Syrotay, bookine. Oh, so-sie. And profite. Villaray, the voice that we love that am. There's something else here now. Something new. Exclusively on Paramount Plus. It's the series Stephen King calls Scary as Hell. Everything here is impossible, but it's also real.
Starting point is 00:10:46 Sci-fi Vision calls it the best show streaming right now. We're running out of time and we still don't know the rules. Don't miss what the movie blog calls something you need to watch. Saving those children is how we all go home. From binge all episodes exclusively on Paramount Plus. All right. So I live in an area that has a lot of of Bogans in it, or Eschase. I think they're called Chavs in the UK, and I'm not really sure about the U.S.
Starting point is 00:11:18 It can get really rough at night, and it's known for not being a safe place to spend time. I won't name the suburb, but it has been on the news more than once. The younger Bogans, they like to go to the local Maccas late at night and hang out in the car park with their cars. A lot of them are too young to get into clubs or have already been kicked out of them. The local sporting oval is another spot that they like to go and smash beer bottles at. I think it was mostly because they were cashed up to get some food, but not enough to really do anything. Most of the time, they're out the back, smoking dearies, drinking and acting like a bunch of gala. It's also a place where drug deals go down.
Starting point is 00:12:07 I guess, for legal reasons, I'll say that it happens, allegedly. Occasionally, they will try to roll people for their money or phones before the pigs come to drive them off. They always come back, though, and they loiter. I mean, they walk in and buy stuff, so I guess that's why they're tolerated. They're the types to go in and throw food, abuse the staff, and throw things around. It isn't good to judge people, I know, but still. Anyways, I went there with my mates, and it was after we were having a good time at one of the clubs. It was closing, so I'm guessing it was around 15 to 2 in the morning, or thereabouts.
Starting point is 00:12:55 I'm not really sure, to be honest. We needed to sober up and figured some greasy macas would be the best way to fix it. It was either that or dirty bird. or KFC, as it's called in the U.S. Other than a kebab shop down the road, they were the only places open besides the servo, but that was even further away. We landed on getting some macas,
Starting point is 00:13:20 and maybe if we had gone to the KFC, things would have been a bit different. There were about eight of us there. We walked together in a loose group, and we were laughing. It had been a fun night. We had walked past a group of a shade, and they called out to us. We called out back to them as we walked into the Macus, and it went on for a bit.
Starting point is 00:13:45 The Macus was dead quiet with only a few people working there, and occasionally some people going through the drive-thru. They didn't follow us inside. We went and ordered our food, got our orders, and had decided whether we were going to eat in, or eat in the car park. We had decided that we wanted to eat outside in the car park. and went back out again. They then called us,
Starting point is 00:14:10 I'm not going to read the exact words that this person wrote, for the sake of pleasing the YouTube gods, so I will say, they called us effing C words. We called back to them, but both of us went to our own ends. We were partly responsible, I guess. We could have kept walking away.
Starting point is 00:14:30 We sat on top of our cars, minding our own business and eating our food, when one of the Ashes screamed something at us and threw a drink at us. The drink went all over one of my friends, completely soaking him. I can't remember what my friend said in response. Again, we could have walked away, but they were arching up at us. One of the distinct things that I remember that was said was, censoring for the YouTube gods again here,
Starting point is 00:15:00 oi, effing dog C-word. There was no mistaking what was likely going to happen at this point. We stood up and we got into a fight with them. It was fairly evenly matched, even though there were more of them. It didn't seem like it was going to be too serious, but then one of them pulled out a knife and stabbed my friend in the stomach. His mate started swearing at him, surprisingly. All of my attention was on helping my friend and trying to make sure that he stayed a All I can remember is his scream and the sight of blood on my hands afterwards.
Starting point is 00:15:38 I actually still have nightmares about it. After we got them away, we saw the blood and tried to stop him from bleeding out. The Macus workers came out to help us. I'm pretty sure they called the cobs and the ambos too. Of course, the eschays ran away, and we were waiting for the cobs and the amboes to get him to the hospital. making the drunk call to his parents late that night. It wasn't good. And really, we were lucky that we weren't arrested.
Starting point is 00:16:09 Each of us had to give a statement to the cops about what happened. Thankfully, he didn't die. And he did go on to make a full recovery with only a scar that he shows off whenever he can. He has, however, stopped drinking, and he's begun to clean up his act, so that's one good thing. You can say that he got lucky, and we've all still gone back to that local Maccas, and, yes, the Eschase still occasionally hang out there. We're not going to let them win. My mate refused to go back for a while, and, yeah, I can understand it, but we also couldn't let him get scared of it. We told him to harden up and went back there.
Starting point is 00:16:55 He did, and we're all proud of him for that. Since then, there have been the occasional bashing or people have been rolled for their wallets or whatever. There haven't been any more stabbings, though. It is still technically being investigated by the cops, so I don't want to potentially ruin the case. It's not a ghost story, but I guess you could still call it scary. No one has any idea why it happened. So, keep your guard up when you go out drinking. and remember to avoid certain things.
Starting point is 00:17:30 Maybe it wouldn't have happened if we had just walked away from them. I've been a long-time listener to podcasts where people have told their scary stories, or told about creepy encounters and whatnot, but I never personally expected to have one of my own. Now that I do, I figured why not share it with the world and see if maybe it can be used as a lesson to others, or help people avoid similar events. If nothing else, at least it could be considered entertainment to some.
Starting point is 00:18:13 I live in a small town that I like to think is pretty safe. There really aren't many crimes that I hear about around town, and I've never really met anyone that I've felt threatened by around the town. I've been without a car for a while, and I just walk from my house to a nearby bus stop to get to work, and then do the same to get home. The bus stop to get home is a bit annoying because they don't stop at the same spot where they pick me up in the morning.
Starting point is 00:18:44 So I end up having to walk about 25-ish minutes from the second stop to my apartment complex. It's a bit annoying, sure, but it is what it is. And since I don't have a car, it's all I have to rely on most of the time. Now, this whole event happened a few. weeks ago. It was a normal day at work. I was super busy and by the end of the day I was seriously exhausted. I got to my stop, got on the bus, and I was sitting in the seat kind of just dozing off a bit while making sure that I didn't actually fall asleep. Something I've gotten pretty good at over the couple of years that I've done this routine. After a bit of just sitting there and being
Starting point is 00:19:29 rocked back and forth by the jostling of the bus, and we hit a bit of a potholeole. We hit a bit of a pothole. and the bump of it actually pulled me completely out of my half-asleep state. I shook my head and kind of looked around, and when I did, I noticed that there was a guy a few seats ahead of me that was sitting with his back against the sidewall of the bus, and he was staring at me. I don't mean, like, sly, maybe he has a crush on me type staring. I mean full-on glaring.
Starting point is 00:19:58 Like, I stole his wallet and kicked his dog, and he knew that it was me, style staring. I had literally no idea who this guy was. I had never seen him on this bus route before, and I was a bit creeped out, so I just kind of thought, I'll ignore it the best I can, and that'll be it. He's just kind of creepy. The entire ride to my stop, he just sat there, staring at me, with the same wide-eyed glare. It got to the point where I thought that maybe he was blind, and he wasn't actually.
Starting point is 00:20:33 staring at me and maybe I was just being insensitive. It was such an awkward situation, and I really was trying to rationalize or think about it in any logical or even illogical way that I could. After a while, we were approaching my stop, and I was almost a bit hesitant to get off, but I wasn't about to make my 20-something-minute walk turn into 40 or more minutes just because of this guy. As we approached, I got a little bit of. up and walked toward the exit of the bus.
Starting point is 00:21:06 And as I passed this guy, he definitely turned his head to watch me. Then, much to my misfortune, as I walked past his seat, he stood up and started following me. I had no idea what to do. I had already shown that this was my stop by getting up. And there weren't a lot of people on the bus, so it wasn't like I was going to be able to get anyone to help me. I decided that I could maybe mention something to the driver and they could help me, or at least stop this guy from getting off the bus with me, because I was creeped out.
Starting point is 00:21:45 I really was at a loss of what could be done because, technically, him just being a weirdo wasn't a crime. The second that I turned to make a comment to the driver, this guy grabbed my shirt and pushed me toward the door, and I'm not exaggerating, he practically threw me off of the bus. He grabbed me and shoved me with all of his strength out the doors and onto the curb. I was lucky that I was able to halfway catch myself, and that I didn't smack my head on the bus stop sign,
Starting point is 00:22:22 or the bench, or the concrete. As I fell, this guy seriously pointed at me and said, if I ever catch you on this bus again, I will kill you. This was obviously terrifying, and it caused a lot of chaos to ensue, mostly from the driver. He was yelling at the guy, the couple of other people that were on the bus, were standing up and approaching the man that had just threatened me, and I was just sitting there on the ground terrified for my life. As soon as the other people got to the guy, he jumped off the bus,
Starting point is 00:22:59 and took off at a full sprint. Within moments, he was gone. And they were helping me up, and the driver told me to get back on the bus while he called the cops to escort me home. I was thankful that he let me back on to wait, and that he was willing to call in to dispatch that there was an incident,
Starting point is 00:23:17 so that I wasn't there alone. The cops did come. They asked for a description. They asked me if I knew the guy, and I told them the whole thing, that he was just staring at me creepily. and that when I went to get off the bus, he shoved me and threatened me.
Starting point is 00:23:33 To be honest, they really didn't seem like they wanted to believe me when I said I didn't know the guy, but I assured them that I had never seen him before in my life. They took all the info from everyone, and then one of the officers did actually give me a ride home, thankfully. And that's pretty much the end of it. They haven't contacted me to let me know that there's been any progress, and my guess is that there won't be. Because it was such a random
Starting point is 00:24:03 incident, and beyond a description, I don't know if they had anything else on the guy. It definitely scared the hell out of me, and it's actually made me a bit nervous to ride the bus again, just in case he wants to make good on his threat, but I'm hopeful that it was just a one-off incident and that I never run into this crazy dude, ever again. This happens. happened in the early 2000s. At the time, I lived in Florida and was about 13 years old. It was a different time for sure, where a bunch of us kids would be outside messing around, digging in the mud, climbing trees, doing things that little boys did, all day and laid
Starting point is 00:24:59 into the night. And on top of that, it was usually without adult supervision. The neighborhood, as I remembered, it was pretty cool, too. No one that was dangerous, just your average people like my own family. I say this because it was normal for us older kids to go off and do our own thing, as long as we came home by whatever curfew we were given. But after this event, I didn't like to be out at night anymore, and never without an adult.
Starting point is 00:25:33 It was the 4th of July, and my family was having their normal party with other relatives. It was my parents, me, my three siblings, my grandparents, aunt and uncle, and their two kids. One of my cousins, Joey, was close to my age, and we were pretty much best friends. They actually lived a few blocks over, so I would ride my bike over there to play with them. So when they showed up, we immediately started showing off the fireworks that we had, sharing and trading the goods, and went around the yard for things to blow up in color with firecrackers and smoke bombs. If you've never taken your sister's old Barbie doll to stain with smoke bombs and blow up, then you were missing out. So the day was going well, doing the day stuff that we were allowed to do,
Starting point is 00:26:30 and then it started getting dark, so the adults were setting up their spot on the sidewalk where they would be watching the show. Of course, I was the oldest, though, so we were always waiting to shoot off our stuff. After some time, one of my siblings started being a nuisance, doing things little siblings did, following me around, asking me to light off mine, copying me, the normal things. when I told my parents we all pretty much got into trouble and were told to stop arguing or we would just have to go inside for the night. I was annoyed, so I just sat on the porch stewing
Starting point is 00:27:13 as Joey tried to cheer me up. We came up with a plan to get us away from the family for a while and asked if Joey and I could walk down to the fireworks stand that wasn't far from us. After thinking it over, They finally agreed to let us go, giving me like 20 bucks to pick up a few things that they specifically wanted, and we headed off, celebrating our small victory and having time to ourselves. Of course, we were still young boys, and were up to no good, and Joey still had his dad's lighter,
Starting point is 00:27:49 so I brought some firecrackers for us to shoot off as we walked. We tossed a few in the road after a car passed, or threw some in the ditch next to the road as it had some water in it. If you've ever thrown firecrackers in water, you know the fun in watching it splash back up. So, the further we went along the sidewalk the fewer streetlights there were, as there was a lot of agricultural land on the side. The fireworks stand was in an old farm supply shop that is usually empty until this time. of the year. After we went over a small hill, we could see the building in the distance. As we were walking, though, we saw what looked like a person on the other side of the road up ahead, but the shape of them made us stare a little longer than we should have. They looked like they were
Starting point is 00:28:44 wearing a thick jacket, or had a blanket wrapped around them. Again, it was July, and in Florida. This was not something you normally saw someone wearing, so it was definitely an odd sight for us to see. But we pretty much just left it at that. We continued on, occasionally looking up at them to see if they were still just standing there when they started walking down the street in our direction, but on the other side of the road still. At this point, we had stopped talking, and we had reached the part where we were both across from each other, so we slowed to a stop to look at them. He was standing almost directly under the streetlight,
Starting point is 00:29:30 but from what I could tell, the outlines and colors, they weren't from a jacket. It was some kind of fur suit. But it wouldn't be as weird if it was a set, though. No, this was creepier because you could tell that it was piece-mealed together. The bottom part looked yellow or tan in color, and it seemed to look really dirty. The top part looked purple or blue, and the fur looked longer or thicker,
Starting point is 00:30:00 but also looked extremely matted. It kind of looked like a really old stuffed animal that was left out in the elements for days. Then there was the mask. It had a long snout like that of a dog, maybe. But the fur or hair was really long going down the back of the mask, and again, it looked like a mess. It looked like someone found different pieces of a costume and different dumpsters
Starting point is 00:30:31 and decided to make it into one. And if there's one thing it succeeded at, it was looking unsettling. They turned their head and just stared at us, which is when we got a better look at the mask, but we really didn't know how to react other than to just stare back at them. Then they made some kind of aggressive motion toward us. Sorry, I don't know how to explain the motion he made, but it was kind of like he was telling us to back up.
Starting point is 00:31:01 But he was growling as he did it. This definitely made us jump up a bit, and then we decided we should probably keep going and try not to look at them anymore. We picked up our pace and again had started talking about the situation, but not long after that, we heard the quick shuffling of what sounded like someone running, so we turned around only to find this terrifying furry man running toward us. Yeah, that would have been terrifying alone, but they were running toward us on all fours.
Starting point is 00:31:38 It was like they were galloping and the motion looked normal, other than their legs clearly being longer than their arms. So we did what any terrified child would do, and we took off running towards the fireworks building, screaming. We started hearing the growling sounds again as they were starting to catch up to us, but we made it to the building and quickly ran inside, as we saw several people turn and look at us in shock. An older lady then swiftly approached us and told us we would have to leave because this wasn't a place to mess around. We tried to explain to her what had happened, frightened that she was going to force us back out there with that thing around, but she looked out the door and told us that we could make our purchase, but then would have to leave afterwards. So we agreed.
Starting point is 00:32:30 We tried to compose ourselves the best we could and walk around to gather what we wanted and what we were asked to get. It certainly didn't stop the lady from watching us the whole time we were in there, though. I'm sure we may have looked a little suspicious, as we did just kind of glance over a lot of the items to try to buy us some time, as we weren't ready to go back out there. After going over each aisle, we finally bought our items to the front and paid for them, trying to be as polite as possible.
Starting point is 00:33:03 I asked the person that rang us up if they had a phone that we could use to call home, hoping that someone might be able to pick us up instead. Hesitantly they brought up a cordless phone and tried calling, but to no surprise, no one answered. So, we decided it was time for us to buck up and head home. The only benefit this time was that we had more fireworks, including Roman candles that we were hoping to be able to fire at this person if they came back for us. We started our speedwalk back to my place, trying to act cool and fine, but I know that I was still scared, and I know Joey was too by the look on his face, and the fact that we kept both looking around.
Starting point is 00:33:53 Thankfully, my dad must have thought that something was up, and as we round at the corner, I recognized his truck and we immediately ran over to it. We jumped in the back, telling him that we already got everything and to just go home. When we got back home, we explained to them what had happened. But of course they didn't believe us. My mom and aunt kept claiming that we probably just didn't see the person clearly, and my dad and uncle teased that they were probably just doing it to scare people. But whatever the case, after that, I never really liked going outside at night, and I never went anywhere without an adult that could fight off some man-bear dog thing.
Starting point is 00:34:40 and the fact that instead of running at us like a human they dropped to their hands and feet and ran at us is an image I just cannot forget. Joey and I still bring it up on occasion when we're together, and he remembers it just as I do. It still freaks me out to think what could have happened if they did catch up to us, and what their plans were. But whatever they were, I'm glad we ruined them. and I hope they weren't able to follow through with any other targets.
Starting point is 00:35:23 So let me start by saying that my brother and I are extremely experienced desert campers, and we've lived near deserts pretty much our whole lives. I have never in the 20 years of my life, for one second, believed in anything paranormal or anything to do with evil spirits. Unlike my brother who has always sensed presences, and been able to see mostly what we call Jin, also known as demons, until last night, which is safe to say, marks the last time we will be camping alone in the desert. We always have the same place that we like to go when we went to camp with minimum effort,
Starting point is 00:36:09 and our day started as normal as ever, but as we got closer and closer to our destination, I saw my brother's mood completely shift. And when I asked what was wrong, he just shrugged me off and told me to keep driving. When we arrived, I felt completely fine. But my brother was still unusually quiet. It was around 1 p.m. at that point, and we were planning on leaving at around 12 to 1 a.m. Because of the heat, we made the terrible decision to set up under a few trees and a source of water. which in Middle Eastern culture is where the Jins live at night.
Starting point is 00:36:51 Not that I believed that at the time, of course. However, we still set up our camp and continued on as normal. Now, my brother always says that when he feels a presence, or several in this case, he gets extremely unlucky. First, he almost dropped a box of coals on his foot. Then he spilled an entire bottle of coke on his phone. then he dropped it into the sand and then proceeded to smash his elbow on the edge of the chair he was sitting on, which is now very swollen.
Starting point is 00:37:25 And last but certainly not least, when he was looking through one of the boxes, he felt something cold and sharp pressed right against his arm, and he realized it was an unsheathed knife, which we packed with its case the previous night before, and he later said it felt like something pushed his hand into it, right where his veins are. All of these events consecutively, within a matter of a few hours, was certainly making us both uneasy. And I, for the life of me, could not figure out why he was suddenly so unlucky. As I was starting to question his clumsiness, a random couple appeared out of nowhere,
Starting point is 00:38:07 informing us that they were stuck in the sand and needed help. We drive a land cruiser and they had a Nissan Altam, so we didn't expect to encounter as many issues as we did. We first dug them out without any issue, but as we pushed them out of the sand, they ended up getting stuck again. If you know anything about dune bashing or desert camping, then you understand the physics behind how wheels get stuck in the sand, and the way this Nissan was stuck was incredibly unusual. It was literally stuck somewhere with plenty of space available for grip. And later on, my brother said that as we were digging them out of the sand, that's when he really started feeling the evil presence around us,
Starting point is 00:38:54 but didn't want to say anything so as to not ruin the trip and freak me out. We ended up having to tow them out of the sand, which again was far harder than it had to be. First, our toe strap broke off their bumper. Toe straps cost $200 and was fine, but their bumper was slightly damaged. Then we almost got stuck ourselves. And a 20-minute job took more like 90, which again was extremely unusual. And, in hindsight, was just the beginning of all the crap to come. When we came back to our camp, we noticed how everything around us had gotten,
Starting point is 00:39:35 unusually quiet. The area that we were in has hundreds of birds around, and as far as we've seen, three cats, who sometimes pay us a visit. But there wasn't a single noise at all, other than our fire, which was dying out unusually quick. It had gotten dark quickly, so we had to scramble to build a fire to cook our dinner, before we were asked to help the couple. And I had noticed the silence, but it hadn't bothered me. However, my brother suddenly grabbed my hand as we were sitting down to eat,
Starting point is 00:40:10 and said with clear fear in his voice that we should go as quickly as possible, and that he didn't feel safe. To ease both of our minds, we prayed. We're Christian, so of course we thought it would help us. But I think that it accelerated everything that happened, and just made whatever was there with us angry. We quickly finished our dinner, And me being the skeptic, I was completely fine.
Starting point is 00:40:40 I was pretty much just humoring my brother until I started getting the nagging feeling that it was time to pack up and leave. It hit me like a wave, and I was quite taken aback by the feelings, so I voiced it to my brother, and he agreed that we should pack up right away and get out of there. We started packing up, at a normal pace like we were just tired and wanted to leave. and that was when we heard a sound very close to us, on the opposite side of the pond, which wasn't that big. I can only describe it as the sound of death itself, and it seemed to go on for several minutes.
Starting point is 00:41:20 And when I say that we looked at each other in absolute fear, I genuinely mean that I was ready to have a heart attack right then and there. At that point, after being frozen for a few minutes and quite, reasonably so after hearing that bellowing screech so close to us, we turned on the car, drove it back so we could see better with the headlamps, and just started throwing everything into the car, without much care, but with a whole lot of urgency. And it was like, after the screaming, that's when stuff really hit the fan. First it was the sound of twigs snapping and footsteps all around us.
Starting point is 00:42:01 then it was the shadows behind the trees. I tried everything to try and get those shadows to change shape, walking around the trees and moving the lights, but nothing. It looked like there were people just staring at us the whole time, and you could really feel it, too. We really felt like we were not alone, and that we were not with friendly entities either. We also noticed that all three cats were huddled right behind our car,
Starting point is 00:42:31 car, away from the trees, so they weren't the one snapping the twigs. But literally did not care if they were not going to move. I was still getting out of there. Thankfully, they left when we started reversing, but they too looked absolutely terrified, and were just staring at the trees, too. It also felt like whatever was there was getting closer. I've never felt anything like it. it was a gut feeling and you just know it's one of those natural instincts that you should not ignore.
Starting point is 00:43:07 Thankfully, we were able to pack up quickly. Our tent was very close to the trees, though, and that was a nerve-wracking experience. And whilst we're packing, it's still very silent. It's very normal for the birds around that area to continue making sound until two or three in the morning. And at this point, it was about 8 p.m. so it was highly unusual. I personally think that I was more terrified. As I was driving away back on to the main dirt path to leave the desert,
Starting point is 00:43:41 I know cars very well. I know how they drive in the sand, and I know our car especially well, because we've had it for so long. I could instantly tell that the steering was off and completely fighting against me, which fixed itself the second we were on the highway. The sound of twig snapping was still all around us, and it was loud enough to be heard over the sounds of the car, and on the path was what seemed like every bird that was in the area, just standing there,
Starting point is 00:44:13 staring at us until we got close enough to force them to walk, not even fly away. At one point my brother just grabbed my shoulder and told me very sternly to keep looking in front of me, and under no circumstances to look through his window. It was the tone of his voice that told me to listen to him for the love of God. We were in a part of the desert where we had to pretty much drive through the whole of the accessible area to get on to the highway, and there wasn't a single person around us. The only thing we saw was a very clearly abandoned Toyota Heilix, positioned behind a small dune and hidden by the trees,
Starting point is 00:44:55 but that was far enough from our campsite to easily be ruled out as the source of the original screech. The worst thing that I saw was, as we were closing to the exit, now we know these deserts very well. We've both grown up here and have been riding dirt bikes and quad bikes in these deserts since we moved here, and we know what wildlife to expect. Cats, birds, spiders, goats, camels, mice, foxes, and maybe even the occasional scorpion if you're really, unlucky, or a snake, but that's it.
Starting point is 00:45:29 There's nothing else in these deserts. But we saw, standing in the middle of the path, staring directly had us, a deer. A freaking deer. I've only ever seen one deer in 16 years of living here, and that was in someone's garden as a pet. It's safe to say that I was in complete shock, and the deer was just not moving at all. until I got close enough that we could practically smell the thing before it walked off the path whilst staring directly at us.
Starting point is 00:46:02 We quickly moved past the deer, and, again, my brother said with a gasp, but very sternly, to keep my eyes on the road. I asked him as we got on the highway what it was that he kept seeing, and he very reluctantly told me that he kept seeing large figures around us any time we went through a bend, and they were all either pointing right at us, or ahead of us.
Starting point is 00:46:27 I'm very glad that he didn't tell me at the time, because I would have lost it. We still were yet to encounter anyone, but we still very clearly heard sounds all around us. And again, not the usual bird or cat, but very clearly big and unrelenting. When I saw the exit, I was as happy as I have ever been. But that quickly faded when, once again, we saw another deer, standing right in the middle of the road, slowly walking away, looking right at us. Except, this time, it didn't really look like a deer. More like a kangaroo mixed with a deer, and its eyes were milky and just...
Starting point is 00:47:11 It looked rotten and horrible. But I didn't much care. I just stepped on the gas, and fortunately it had gotten out of the way in time. Now, when you exit the desert, you can either turn right, onto a long stretch of highway, or you can go left and go through a small town and then take the back streets to a parallel highway, and as I was about to turn right, my brother, once again, with that same tone of voice, said to go to the town and to go to the right. Later, he once again said that he saw a line of figures pointing ahead of us, so if we would
Starting point is 00:47:49 have gone that way, we wouldn't have made it home in one piece. thankfully, as we made it further and further away and close to our home, the gut feeling of being watched was going away. And, of course, having never experienced something like this before, I was distraught, and I wanted to talk about it. My brother told me as we were going home that, because we were alone, the Jin wanted to mess with us,
Starting point is 00:48:18 that they wanted to scare us and most likely cause us harm, and that the way they get to you in such rural places is to force you to stop and then do whatever they want, which makes sense as to why there were so many animals in our path. He also said that they caused bad luck and that he could feel them the second we entered the desert, which explains his clumsiness all day and the car that got stuck in such an unusual manner.
Starting point is 00:48:48 This is also my younger brother by three years. and naturally any time he ever told me about this sort of thing, I just always dismissed him as him scaring himself. I can excuse the sounds that we heard in the shadows that we saw last night. I can excuse the gut feeling as just being scared, but I cannot excuse the two deer that we saw staring right at us. And I cannot excuse the car just randomly fighting against me as I was driving. The deer completely freaked me out, as did the tone of my brother's voice. I'm also sorry if this is written sporadically as I'm still shaken up and trying to make sense of everything. And it's safe to say that we are not going camping there again, and it's also safe to say that I'm never dismissing my brother when it comes to this kind of thing again.
Starting point is 00:49:43 And I am so thankful that we made it home safely. I also forgot to mention that as we were setting up our tent, it was fighting us. We would secure one end of it into the ground and instantly another end would pop out. And after we finally managed to get it set up, it looked as if something was pushing it in, and it collapsed once before we got it back up. And again, it looked like something was pushing on it, which is something neither of us have ever experienced before, and we've even set up tents in the middle of a sandstorm.
Starting point is 00:50:29 This story may or may not come as a surprise to people who live in the U.S., and I'm not sure whether I believe what I saw either, or whether I was mistaken. I'm also not sure about any Aussies who also may be aware of this. At first, I used to believe it was one of those urban legends going around. Australia doesn't naturally have any big cats or cats, or anything like that. There were some carnivorous marsupials that are now extinct. I'm not talking about those, though.
Starting point is 00:51:04 I'm talking about an actual big cat. This experience changed how I thought of them. I was out bushwalking with a group of friends in an area close to farmland. Each of us had our backpacks filled with the supplies that we would need, along with the camping equipment. This happened in the early 90s, so mobile or cell phones weren't as common as they are now. The area that I'm talking about now has been built up on for a while, and over time it has gotten worse, so I'm not even sure it's the same.
Starting point is 00:51:41 I actually moved interstate after this incident. A lot of the country areas of New South Wales are losing the bushland and farming land for housing. People need somewhere to live, sure, but it's a shame that it's happening, too. So, anyways, we set up the tent and other things for the campsite. We settled in and began to organize dinner for the evening. It was a beautiful night, and it was fantastic being out in nature. We took some photos that would need to be developed later. As I said, this was the 90s. and the crickets and the other insects went dead quiet every so often. We really weren't sure what the reason was, but none of us let it get in the way of enjoying our night.
Starting point is 00:52:29 We were drinking, chatting, and enjoying life. I looked over in the long grass, and I saw something. It was difficult to see, and I nearly missed it. I swore that it was maybe a big dog or something like that. I never would have believed it could be a big cat. I stared at it. My friend nudged me laughing and asked just how much zombie I'd had. I know the term isn't used much today, but zombie is short for cannabis.
Starting point is 00:52:58 I laughed and pointed in the direction of what I saw. I told him that I thought I saw a big cat or something. He laughed even louder at me. We packed up and left, and when we were driving away, I saw what had to be a big cat. It had rounded ears rather than pointed ones, though. Maybe I did indulge a little too much. But I was nosy, and I wanted to learn more about what I had seen.
Starting point is 00:53:30 I knew that feral cats could grow to be quite large out in the bush, but whatever this was had curved ears. I found some forums and tried to find any docos on it. I heard local yarns about how there had been circuses that went bankrupt, and just let the animals go. Or rich pricks who did the same back in the 1800s or so. Even some saying that U.S. soldiers had them as mascots or something, only to release them back into the wild.
Starting point is 00:54:01 Again, there's no set story about what exactly happened or how the story originated. I haven't heard any of the stories about livestock being taken, and I'm pretty sure something like that would have gone after sheep. mind you, animals die anyways that can't be accounted for. The more that I researched, the more that I found. There was also the Blue Mountain Panthers and the Lithgow Panther. In a rare turn of events here, the person that sent this actually did send a follow-up email with some further information. So, here are some updates about my story.
Starting point is 00:54:42 Actually, these are other people's stories, but they are relevant. to what I initially sent in. In the early 2000s, there were more investigations into the big cats, and there were several sightings of them. Hell, even in 2002, there was a person who said that they were actually attacked by one out in the bush. So, I guess that made my encounter with my mates a close call. A lot of police officers and firees have all seen them as well.
Starting point is 00:55:13 A vet even took fur and scat samples and confirmed that it was a big cat. A report in 2003 said that there were no big cats currently, but it was likely that a big cat was around. In 2005, government officials were quiet about it and told us that they couldn't speak about the situations. Again, another report in 2008 said that the big cats were more likely than not, but it was changed before being released into the public. So, I guess that tells you something. It makes you wonder why exactly they don't want to make this information clear to the public. Why and what are they hiding?
Starting point is 00:55:58 But there is even more. In 2011, I heard about an alpaca being taken down by something that left massive wounds in its skull. Too big to be a dog and nothing native here that could do that sort of damage. A ranger apparently said that it could have been a big cat. It sounds like the people that are in the area know about it, but for some reason the government wants to hide it from us. In 2013, a mate told me about the study by some feral species specialist that denied it all, but apparently in private he said small populations were possible. These reports are nearly a decade old now, and it has been a long time since I've heard any more.
Starting point is 00:56:43 more about it. Maybe they've gone deeper into the bush, or got better at hiding from people. Maybe the population was so small and inbred that they went extinct. Who knows? But I'm always going to remember my experience. I know what I saw, and nothing will tell me otherwise. I hope that someday we find proof that this is true or was true at some point, and I hope that you enjoyed my story, short as it was. I met Trent when I was 30 years old. We met in a relatively old-fashioned way, mainly because I've always shunned online dating and prefer meeting people face to face. I've always trusted my gut instinct when I meet people, and we met at a town dance. I come from
Starting point is 00:57:44 one of those country towns where everyone knows each other and there is a strong sense of community out here. While people are suspicious of strangers, they tend to turn a blind eye to bad behavior from people inside the community. It's one of the most frustrating parts of living in a community like this. Despite this, I do love my hometown. Trent, which is a nickname, by the way, was the cousin to one of the more well-established families in the town. If you're not from one of these small towns, it can be hard to understand, but essentially, many of their family has important businesses and own a considerable amount of the property. Trent wasn't raised in the town, and was raised in one of the big cities. Trent was charming, sweet and caring.
Starting point is 00:58:36 Everyone told me how lucky I was to be with him, and if we got married, I would basically be set for life. We dated for nearly two years before we moved in together. Six months later, we were engaged, and he told me how he wanted to look after me. Now, I was raised by a very long line of independent women who wanted to make sure that they make their own money. But over time, I was worn down by the promises and the hope of an easy life. I let him take care of the finances, and we lived a pretty good life. regularly going on expensive trips into restaurants, buying new clothes and lots of items I didn't really need,
Starting point is 00:59:20 I was living the good life. My friends frequently told me how jealous they were that I found someone like this, and I thought I was blessed, too. Whenever I would try to conserve our power usage, Trent would reassure me not to worry and say that it was covered. I personally didn't like this, though. It was wasteful.
Starting point is 00:59:42 Trent and I talked about having children together someday, what we would name the kids, how we would raise them, and what we wanted for our family. Trent wanted a massive family with something like seven children. I'm not young by any means and didn't realistically think I could have that many. I told him this, and he said he was okay with it. I ended up having three kids with him, who are my whole world. I love each of them. Over time, my focus changed from having a lifestyle around going out and socializing to raising our children. I don't think that he liked this as much, and he went out of his way to spoil our kids, buying them whatever they wanted, whenever they wanted.
Starting point is 01:00:30 I told him that it was a bad idea to spoil them, and so, in my children's eyes, I was the big mean mummy. He told me one day that he wanted to leave the quiet country town that we had called home, a place that I lived my entire life. We talked about it, and we looked for places that we could go. He seemed kind of panicked about it for some reason, but he wouldn't tell me what the problem was. I kept asking him if I could help, and he got really snappy at me, and one day he even punched a wall that he got so worked up. That wasn't the same man that I married.
Starting point is 01:01:07 I actually woke up one day and all of his things were gone. He took a bag, left an apology note. I called everyone. His family, his friends, the police, and there was no sign of this ever coming. Our children were so scared for their father and they missed him terribly. Then I found the stash of bills and credit cards that had been taken out using my name. I stared in shock at them.
Starting point is 01:01:39 He hadn't been paying the bills, and there were final notices approaching. I actually had my first panic attack and woke up on the floor. I thought it was a nightmare, but this was my reality. I called up the bank and utilities company, and anyone who would listen to me. I called my mom and my friends. I was terrified about what would happen. I was scared that I was going to lose the house, and I tried to call my husband's number,
Starting point is 01:02:06 begging him to come home to sort this all out. As it turns out, Trent had been in debt, and he'd actually done this thing before. There was even a pending investigation into him, and I couldn't believe how stupid I was. It's taken years to properly clear my name and my credit. Financially, he destroyed me, and I wish I had kept working to keep up my skills
Starting point is 01:02:33 in the job market. Luckily for me, a family friend actually heard of the situation and gave me a job, some advice and a place to stay while things were being sorted out. It was hard on the kids, they were used to getting whatever they wanted, and they then had to make do with whatever they had. They would ask me where their dad was, and I would have to lie to them telling them that he loves them and would be coming home someday. I try to look for him on social media sometimes when I have some.
Starting point is 01:03:03 spare time. One time I actually found him, and he was already with another woman. As the investigation went on, I discovered that I wasn't the only woman that he conned, and if he isn't stopped, I won't be the last. Ever since, I've been trying to repair my life. I'm trying to legally get a divorce, and at first his family tried to brush it off or blame me for what happened, but I'm not going to be silenced over this. Some of the friends that I had when I was, was living the high life, of course, disappeared when I needed them most. But here's my advice that I have for any young woman or young man or whoever out there. Don't blindly trust someone to manage your finances.
Starting point is 01:03:49 Always, at least, be somewhat involved in the process, and try to keep an eye on your money. If possible, also keep up your skills in case something happens where you have to rejoin the workforce, because I really wish that I did. This happened to me back whenever I was 15. My birthday is on June 23rd, and we had just had a family party for me, including dinner of my choosing, which was at my favorite Mexican restaurant. Then we went home, opened my presents, and had cake and ice cream. Afterwards, we watched a movie together and had more snacks.
Starting point is 01:04:41 like popcorn and candies, so I crashed pretty hard afterwards. It was a fantastic day, until I went to bed and had a horrible nightmare that felt so real. In my dream, my mom, dad, older brother, and I had all gone to get our fireworks for the 4th of July. We got the stuff we normally did, like smoke bombs, parachutes, fountains, the whole works. My dad always liked to end with the big show, so he bought a bunch of different mortars, letting us each pick out one too that we specifically wanted to see. Then we would pick out some random little things here and there that they showed on their display screen, or anything
Starting point is 01:05:31 that really caught our eyes. Walking down one of the displays was this piece that was honeycomb shaped. The color on the wrapper, however, were golden, yellow, and orange, and the name was something to the effect of dancing bees, or similar. It looked kind of cute, and it made me think of my mom because she had a butterfly garden in our front yard that was always filled with butterflies and bees. She loved it. I called her over to show her, and, as expected, her face lit up, and she told my dad that
Starting point is 01:06:09 She wanted to get it, so naturally, we did. Then, when we started lighting things off, my grandma and mom were sitting in their patio chair on our porch, while my dad and brother were starting to light off the bigger mortars. I loved watching them, but I was still nervous about lighting them, so I just watched them from the porch as well. Then they got to the B-1 that my mom and I picked out. My brother lit it and ran towards my dad who was standing to the side near the garage. After waiting in anticipation, we saw the fuse die out with nothing more. After a few seconds, my dad agreed to go check it out, and as he approached it,
Starting point is 01:06:56 there was a huge burst of light that came out of it, causing me to flinch. When I finally looked back up, my dad was on the ground with my brother standing over him, and that's when I noticed my hearing seemed to be muffled and was slowly coming back as I heard screaming around me getting louder and louder. I turned around to see my mom slumped back in her chair, with something big smashed in her face. Then I turned around, as I seemed to recognize the screams, which were coming from my grandmother. She was rolling around on the ground trying to put the flames that were seeming to engone.
Starting point is 01:07:37 I just remember standing there frozen in place, not knowing what to do. Do I check to see if my mom is even alive? Do I help my grandmother? What about my dad? The next thing I knew, I woke up in my bed, covered in sweat, and I just started shaking and crying. I had never had a dream or nightmare, rather, that felt so real. The terror was overwhelming. I could feel the heat of the fire and the splitting headache from the loud blast,
Starting point is 01:08:12 but it was all a dream. I got up and turned on my computer to check the date and time, and to my relief it was around June 24th at about two or three in the morning. I went to the restroom to splash water on my face to try and calm my nerves before I finally laid back down. I turned on the TV to try to get my mind elsewhere, Before I finally did fall back asleep, telling myself it was just a dream. I was 15, as I said, so I didn't really talk to my parents about having bad dreams anymore,
Starting point is 01:08:50 so I just kind of kept it to myself, other than maybe a good friend of mine. They thought it was a pretty crazy dream, too, but then we all moved on from it. It wasn't until a few days later when we went to go get our fireworks that it would all come back to me. We went on that following Saturday when my dad was off work to go get our supplies. We picked out our normal items and then started looking at the mortars. I hadn't even thought of my dreams since then because, while it was pretty scary, it was just a dream. However, I would be lying if I said it didn't all come rushing back to me and make me hesitate when I saw that same dancing bees display sitting out. In this reality, though, I chose not to point it out to my mom.
Starting point is 01:09:48 I didn't really believe in supernatural phenomena or whatever you want to call this, but I guess the dream messed me up enough to steer me away from it. though that doesn't stop other people, so when my brother noticed it, he immediately pointed it out to my mom. As expected, she liked it and wanted to get it. I was not comfortable with this idea whatsoever, so I tried all I could to talk them out of it. I suggested we get something else. I said the name was going to be misleading, and I even said I wasn't comfortable with it, or it didn't seem safe. My dad immediately pointed out that I've never really been afraid of fireworks to the point that I didn't want them to get something and then asked me what was wrong. I didn't want to look dumb or be made fun of by my brother potentially, so I just said it didn't look safe.
Starting point is 01:10:48 As expected, my brother teased me about being scared while my dad tried to assure me it would be fine, and that we were all safe when it came to the fireworks. and they carried it off. I refused to carry it, and I made them put it in the shed in the back, as far away as possible from the house. So, the night of the fourth, we got all set up for our little show.
Starting point is 01:11:15 This year it was only going to be the four of us, plus my grandmother. Sometimes we had friends or aunts and uncles that would stop over, but they all had plans this year. I did my best to relax and enjoy the night because I did typically enjoy this holiday, and I didn't want some dream to ruin it for me. I helped my mom and grandma set up their chairs on the porch, and we started lighting the fireworks.
Starting point is 01:11:45 I was actually starting to have fun when they got out the dancing bees from my mom. That's when it came back to the forefront of my mind, when I had that, sense of deja vu as I walked out the door asking my mom where something was. In my dream, I had just walked out the door to ask her for something similar and decided to wait because she was telling me they were about to light it off. As she started telling me they were going to light it and to go get my grandma because she had gone inside for something, I told my mom instead to come inside with me. She declined, saying she didn't want to miss it, so I tried to convince her to watch it from the
Starting point is 01:12:30 kitchen window as it faced out into the backyard. She again declined. I didn't know what else to do, so I stood there next to her, mentally freaking out over a stupid dream, but something wasn't right. So as my dad yelled that he was lighting it and running off, I went back in the house. and then without thinking I screamed for my mom to help me with grandma. Sure enough, she did come running to me as I stood in the kitchen. When she came in and noticed grandma was nowhere around me,
Starting point is 01:13:06 she became pretty upset with me. She yelled at me like, What's gotten into you? And going on from there, when I heard my brother or my dad yelling. We quickly ran back outside to see my brother, frozen in place, and my dad spraying the water hose over our little fireworks platform. Then, we noticed a big chunk of something on the porch that barely missed my mom's chair.
Starting point is 01:13:35 It was still smoldering, so my mom had me run to get water to put it out to make sure it didn't burn anymore. Shortly after, my grandmother came back out looking just as confused as my mom. After we put it out, my dad explained to my... mom what had happened. He lit the display, and after returning to where they were standing, they noticed that the wick had gone out. Then he noticed that we weren't outside, so he started walking towards the door to find out where we had gone, since this was specifically for my mom. When, out of nowhere, it exploded. They saw a few pieces go flying, but for the most part it had caught fire right where it was, so my dad rushed to grab the hose and put it out.
Starting point is 01:14:27 After it cooled, my dad broke apart the piece that landed on the porch, and it seemed to be like a mortar shell of some sort that was warped, so it didn't seem like it could break open. This happened many years ago, so I don't quite remember how we explained it. But the scary part was, it would have definitely done it. damage if it had hit my mom. That is, if it hadn't killed her. I just remember shaking and crying when it all happened and hugging my dad since he was okay. My mom then asked me what the hell was going on with me being so worried about this particular
Starting point is 01:15:09 firework, and I finally explained the dream that I had. To my surprise, my mom and grandma looked shocked, whereas my dad thought it was strange and brother didn't really say much. We cleaned up the debris from that nightmare, and continued with our night, with my brother teasing me every once in a while, with a, is this one safe to light? But I was still on edge, feeling relieved that we may have avoided something much worse, and then also scared that I may have predicted this. Not long after the Fourth of July celebrations, we started hearing.
Starting point is 01:15:51 and seeing in the news about fireworks accidents, such as fires, injuries, and death. And would you believe me if I said the makers of that stupid dancing bees was listed? We weren't the only ones that had something happen, where it ended a lot worse for them. And it kind of creeps me out thinking, what if they had some kind of warning like I did? Would things have been different for them too? I've never had a dream before or after that felt as real as that one, but it's just so strange that it happened. My grandma said that I probably have some kind of ability that I wasn't aware of before
Starting point is 01:16:35 and wholeheartedly believes in me. This is why I adore her. To be honest, though, I don't think I want to experience that again. Seeing someone close to you die, whether in real life or, a dream can definitely be traumatizing. Oh, and always remember firework safety. Hi, I'm Michelle. I'm currently 22 years old, and I've always been interested in the paranormal.
Starting point is 01:17:15 I set out to write about all of my experiences that I can recall, the longest one being about a house I lived in as a kid. I'm from Denmark, so my grammar isn't going to be perfect, but I'll try my best. So these are some haunted house stories from my childhood home. A little background. My mom, my then-stepdad, our dog and me moved into this house when I was 12. It was actually a basement apartment. There were people living upstairs that rented out their basement.
Starting point is 01:17:49 It's kind of confusing, but it was actually pretty big. We moved out when I was about 16, so this happened in the span of four years. So anyways, we moved in and everything was well. About a week after we moved in, I had a friend over to see our new living space and was really excited to show her. My dog, a very peaceful, quiet, lazy, and just not violent at all dog, went into my room and started barking his head off. He never barked. He was standing on two feet and barking at the corner of my bed.
Starting point is 01:18:26 It was just really weird. So here I am trying to calm my dog, but he just won't give it up. When standing on two legs, which he was, he was my height. For some weird reason, neither my mom nor my stepdad heard it, and we even had the door open. So I went out to get them while my friend is freaking out, and then he just calmed down like nothing happened. That was the first weird thing to happen in that house, but not the last.
Starting point is 01:18:56 We would occasionally hear high heels walking above us, chairs being pulled out, and very loud bangs. All coming from upstairs, so we asked them if anything had happened, and they told us no, they were asleep. It would always happen at night. It wasn't until they went on vacation, and the noise continued, that we started feeling weird. They had an alarm as well, and it would go off about once or something. week for no apparent reason, but they never spoke about it. I remember we would eat in the kitchen and all of us would turn our heads to the hallway at the same time, because we all thought we saw someone.
Starting point is 01:19:40 It was so weird. It happened all the time, and it just became the norm. We told ourselves that it was our imagination. We often thought that someone had broken in, and countless times my stepdad went up there with the flashlight, but there was no one. I would often wake up hearing noises in the kitchen, thinking that my mom had woken up. It sounded like people cooking. I would soon come to realize every time I heard those noises, there was no one.
Starting point is 01:20:14 The noises would always stop when I entered the kitchen. The scariest thing to happen in that house, though, were to my stepdad. I went into their room, just woken up. And he says, Wow, you were up early today. And I was like, no, I just woke up. And as I said that, all the light from his eyes just vanished. He told me and my mom that he had gotten woken up
Starting point is 01:20:40 by what he thought was me staring at them. And when he asked me what was wrong, and I didn't say anything, I just kept staring until I walked away. He said that the girl that he saw was, was wearing a white dress and had long black hair. I have brown hair, and I don't own a white nightgown, so I don't know why he would have thought that was me.
Starting point is 01:21:06 So sometime later, we had dinner with our neighbors, where this topic came up. They told us that there was actually a murder in the house. Like, a girl actually got killed, and they even had the newspaper articles about it. It happened right outside my room, The girl who was killed was pregnant. The man who got her pregnant already had a wife, so he killed her,
Starting point is 01:21:32 and tried to make it look like a suicide, which he apparently was really bad at. The time we lived in that house, I actually wasn't having the greatest years. I spent four years in that house, and all of those years were filled with depression and anxiety. I never had hope, and it was always like a black cloud of smoke, was hanging around me. Only in the house, though.
Starting point is 01:21:59 I remember clearly that every time I went out, I was happy. And I thought it was weird. I told my mom about it, and she told me the same thing happens to her. Another thing about the house is that things would go missing, and we would look everywhere for them, and then the next day they would show up on, like, a table, or somewhere really obvious, where we had already looked. where we had already looked.
Starting point is 01:22:26 I was so attached to that house that I didn't want to leave my room. I always made up excuses not to leave the house, and I was just miserable. I would have really bad nightmares of a tall black figure in our living room, with the biggest grin on his face. I've never been so scared from a nightmare, and I was really scared to be in the living room alone. One time, and this is really,
Starting point is 01:22:53 dark and I don't know why I'm sharing this, but as mentioned, I was in a really dark period of my life, and I was in the bathroom, one of the darkest places in the whole house. I was looking in the mirror, and my eyes were black, and I started smiling. I swear I was crying dark, thick liquid out of my eyes. Honestly, it's so messed up, I know, but obviously this was only happening in the mirror, not in real life. The last thing I remember is me reading a book late one night, and I saw a dark figure out of my eye.
Starting point is 01:23:30 I turned to look and there's nothing. It happens a few moments later again, and I look again, and my blanket on my chair is swinging back and forth, like if someone had walked into it. It was a summer night, and I had no windows open, so it scared me a lot. I just put my blanket over my head and tried to sleep. My mom also told me that when she went to go to the bathroom late at night,
Starting point is 01:23:59 she thought that my stepdad was on the computer. So right as she was closing the bathroom door, the man sitting on the computer waved and smiled at her and she waved back, thinking it was my stepdad. And when she got out, the computer was turned off and my stepdad was fast asleep. She woke him up, asking if he was just on the computer, to which he replied no, very confused. Apparently he had been asleep for some time.
Starting point is 01:24:28 The rest of this post, as the OP put it, are other random stories. From what I can tell, they are not related to the house, but they are good haunting stories, so I would like to include them. It's hard to imagine it's real, but I remember this very vividly. We were moving into an apartment. I was around four. I was standing in my new room when my dad said, I'll turn off the lights. Are you coming?
Starting point is 01:24:55 And at the time, I was really afraid of the dark. But for some reason, I told him I wanted to stay. So, he turned off the light and everything got pitch black, and I saw a girl. I wasn't scared. She wouldn't talk, but I tried to talk to her. She was a little older than me, maybe six or seven. and I thought that she was an angel because I didn't know what ghosts were back then, but I don't know.
Starting point is 01:25:24 She was in this glowing white light, and it just felt so pure. I can't explain it. My dad got back and turned the light on again, and she was gone. I never saw her again, but I thought about her a lot. One time me and my boyfriend were sleeping, and I had to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night. I opened the door, and I hear people talking. in the living room. I was scared witless
Starting point is 01:25:50 until I realized it's a video from my boyfriend's computer. The weird thing is, the screen is closed and he turned it off. So he had to turn it back on to close the video. It's still so weird, like, how does that even happen?
Starting point is 01:26:07 It was so loud. Like, the volume was all the way up. He swore that he had turned off the laptop and it made absolutely no sense. Another time, from 18 to 20, I lived in a place with staff who could help you, because of my anxiety and autism. One day I'm in my living room listening to loud music when I hear my front door open. I assume it's someone who works here, so I stop the music and look. It's a man in an orange vest, like worker clothes, if you're an electrician or something,
Starting point is 01:26:43 and he has a tool bag with him as well. I'm hella confused and I just look at him. For some reason, he does not look at me at all. We never make eye contact, and he was probably just standing in my kitchen for like ten minutes. I was so confused, because I wasn't expecting anyone to come look at anything, and after ten minutes, again, without eye contact,
Starting point is 01:27:11 he just walks out again. So I contact the workers and was like, Um, who is that guy that was just here? And they're like, what guy? I explained what happened, and she looks worried. So she asks her boss if they're expecting any handymen or something today, and they weren't. No one had seen this guy. It was like he had just vanished.
Starting point is 01:27:37 They go on and asked if I had dreamed it, and I'm like, I was jamming out to music. Like, I wasn't sleeping at all. They could not explain it. And I don't know if it was paranormal, but it was definitely weird. I've also had dreams where my mom was in the hospital. I call her and tell her about my dream, and she goes on to tell me that she was actually in the hospital that day. I've had so many weird dreams about my mom come true.
Starting point is 01:28:09 It's just really weird. All in all, I think that me being autistic and a bit sensitive, I definitely attract these kinds of things. I have never seen or had anything like this happen. A little backstory, it was my ex and I living in a one-bedroom apartment, the one that I still reside in today. This older guy I had met, Dan, owned this house with four different units. all one bedroom. Well, he got lung cancer, and boom, six months later, he was gone. His grandmother originally owned this place, and I'm not sure of who owned it before her.
Starting point is 01:29:04 Anyways, after he passed, my ex and a neighbor who lived in one of the other units, Sharon, decided to make a Ouija board and do it. Now, Sharon was Dan's niece, and they were curious to see if they would give him. get any answers. Neither of them know how to safely use Ouija, and when I had found out about this, I was a little upset, as I've had experiences with them before. None really good, to be honest. I don't like that you have to give an entity permission to use your body as a conduit to move the planchet. I prefer spirit boxes or other methods. At this point, I've always been interested in the paranormal and have had experiences, but nothing quite like what I'm about to detail.
Starting point is 01:29:54 So, a couple of days go by. I've forgotten all about the Ouija board. I'm getting home from work. I work the second shift, so it was past midnight, and my ex was also working so the lights were off. Then it was dark when I arrived. I come through the door to see shimmering bits of light reflecting off of my living room floor. I quickly turned on a light and was shocked to see a tempered glass pane that had come from a coffee table. I had put it on top of my wooden coffee table. Well, I start recording as I thought somebody had possibly broken in. I checked the place first, obviously, and it's not like it's a big place for anyone to hide.
Starting point is 01:30:40 But the glass pane had exploded wall to wall with glass. I still find glass to this day from that table. Now, it had all spiedered out from a covered candle that happened to be used in the Ouija session. I've dropped stuff on this table, and it's had its fair share of usage, but the only thing I'm aware of that can create the force that was needed for this glass pane to explode would be a rapid temperature change, which it was summertime in New England. or something contacting it just right to make it shatter. But this wasn't just a shatter.
Starting point is 01:31:20 The entire chunks were blown off of the table in every direction. It was quite spooky, honestly. When my ex got home, I was recording the video, and she was just as uneasy about this as me. Long story, kind of short, that event kicked off a month long of intense poltergeist activity. that neither of us had experienced before. It was getting to the point where we were lost as to what to do.
Starting point is 01:31:50 Get a priest? I had sage cleansed the place, but it actually made things worse. The last straw for me is when we had just gotten home from grocery shopping, about a week after the table. And I know beyond a doubt that I placed the cat litter on the kitchen table. My ex left to go back to the store because we forgot something, So I went outside to have a cigarette. And I can see my front door, but I can't see inside the house.
Starting point is 01:32:20 My cat was outside with me sitting by the window. Now, the cat litter bag was made of a plastic that had a very distinct sound, and then all of the sudden I heard what sounded like someone picking it up, placing it on the floor and then tipping it over. I heard and felt the thud as it hit the ground gently. My cat's ears were straight up and extremely focused on whatever was happening inside the house. I go up to the door, which has a window on it. Without entering, I look through and the cat litter bag was in the middle of my kitchen floor.
Starting point is 01:32:57 I mean, we would have had to have walked around it. To be sure I wasn't going insane, I called my ex Becky and asked her what I did with the bag of litter. She said that I put it on the table. and I know that I did. There were a couple of other events that led up to this, so I'm laughing in just pure shock as to what the hell is going on, and then I decided to enter the apartment. As soon as I tried to take a step in,
Starting point is 01:33:27 well, the only way I can describe it is that I felt something passed through me. I started shaking uncontrollably, and that persisted for hours, and then I started crying. But it didn't feel like my emotions. I was baffled and had no idea why I was crying. Becky got home and asked me why I was crying, and I was just like, I don't know. And then laughed.
Starting point is 01:33:56 But, yeah, totally the most bizarre thing I have ever experienced. My conclusion is that I'm not sure if it was a coincidence or what, but someone gave me some native. Native American stuff to try, and it did taper off after that, which was a relief. My honest opinion is whatever they made contact with on the Ouija board was not our friend Dan who had recently passed. It was malevolent, for sure, as it was getting more and more aggressive, and it literally felt heavy in here.
Starting point is 01:34:32 I would get home from work and would sit down, but would all of a sudden feel this overwhelming presence. Like, very oppressive. Your body can sense this stuff. Like, have you ever entered a room where people were just arguing or something, and you can just feel the tension in the air? And your instincts kick in trying to tell you that something is off. No, that's what it would feel like. If I figure out how to add the video, then I will. Have any of you had similar experiences like this? I mean, this made me open my eyes quite a bit and started rabbit holding with the subject as I find it fascinating. So, yeah, I'm just curious what you guys think about this story, or if you've had any similar experiences. I lived in a semi-smaller town
Starting point is 01:35:35 back around 2014. It was one of those towns where everyone knew each other. We actually weren't allowed big fencing, but Chainlink was also a no-no, so most people either didn't have fencing, or you had to have one of the short brown or white fences. We had one on our place just to better separate our property line and plant other trees and shrubs without being told we were over our property lines. I bring this up just to show how open our yards were and the overall lack of privacy. It wasn't a bad thing, though, because all the neighbors were pretty great, except your one nosy neighbor, but we just learned not to say much when they were around. Anyways, with this openness, people often had block parties or cookouts together, and they were a lot of fun. and my wife and I were definitely the social types, so we typically attended them,
Starting point is 01:36:39 and also seemed harder to avoid if we wanted to when she became pregnant. Everyone wanted to ask how she was doing, what our plans were for X, Y, and Z, and so on. After our daughter was born, it was just as fun as the other kids grew up with her and they all became friends. But, alas, every seemingly nor'y, neighborhood has to have a dark side, right? There was a younger lady that lived nearby.
Starting point is 01:37:10 She lived at the end of the block. I'll call her May. May inherited her house from her parents as her father had passed, and her mother had moved into an assisted living type of deal. They didn't want to sell the house, so they gave it to her, as long as she kept up on any maintenance that it needed. I knew this based on what she had told my wife, and when I was volunteered to help fix or look at something for her place.
Starting point is 01:37:40 So, of course, May also showed up to the parties and was typically pleasant to be around. She could kind of get loud, but we never really found an issue with it. Some of the older folks and families with like four or five kids didn't care for her, or at least how she handled herself, but I just steered clear of her while my wife just thought she was trying to live her best years. Regardless, no one ever really had a problem with her beyond those situations. One of the bigger block parties that we had was for the 4th of July, of course. It was typically a bring-your-own fireworks and food,
Starting point is 01:38:22 but there were a few cheap grills laid out for people to use, and they blocked off part of the road and had standing solar lights sectioning off parts of it so the kids could safely light off fireworks. This year, my daughter was about six or seven. So she was just getting into really trying out anything so we spent a lot of time close to her, of course, helping her light the little fountains and then running off with her.
Starting point is 01:38:51 We tried to set in the idea that you don't have to be afraid of them because she didn't like the ones with loud noises, but you also had to be careful and safe. When May showed up, she came over, said hi, gave our daughter a box of poppets, and went off to greet everyone else. She had brought a bag of candy and small fireworks and was giving them to the kids.
Starting point is 01:39:17 As it started getting darker, one of her friends showed up, and that's when the party really started for them. They started getting a bit louder and really enjoying themselves, which was making some people avoid them. My wife was still welcoming to them, but we were still watching our daughters, so after offering them the chairs that we brought, since she also had a blanket to sit on, they accepted the invite, but said that they would be right back because May had to use the restroom. We were sitting almost across the street from our place, so my wife offered us. to let them use ours.
Starting point is 01:39:56 But they insisted they would go back to her place and then off they went. We continued watching the show, taking turns with our daughter, when our friend came walking back asking if we had seen May. We told her no, not since she left with her, and she said that she was gone when she got out of the bathroom. She said she thought she had walked back here instead of waiting, but was surprised to see her not sitting with us. so she walked back to her place after joking about getting lost in her own house and left a short while later she came back again saying that she still couldn't find her we still hadn't seen her since around when they left and no one else at the party had either everyone was doing their own thing no so no one stopped to help look for her or try to figure out where she went i remember when we were packing up to
Starting point is 01:40:53 leave. The party was still going, but our kid was getting tired and cranky, so we decided to head out. At that point, we'd actually forgotten about the whole May thing until a couple days later. We were at home, and we had a cop knocking on our door. They said they were asking about May, as she had apparently gone missing the night of the fourth, under suspicious circumstances. She visited her mom almost daily, and she just stopped showing up. up with no warning. And her purse was actually found in a ditch, and all-important belongings were left at home, like her keys and phone. We still hadn't seen her after they headed home that night, and hadn't since, so we unfortunately weren't much help. It was on the local news,
Starting point is 01:41:43 but months passed and life just went on. She was never found and never returned. It wasn't until a little over a year later that our tiny town would get its answers. On my way to work, I saw several cops at one of the houses on the same street that we lived in. I learned when I got home that the guy that lived there had tried ending his life by sitting in his car that was on in an enclosed garage. However, authorities were able to get there in time to stop him, mostly because of the phone call that he made to 911 with a confederate. and he said he was going to take his life, as he couldn't live with the guilt of having killed May a year prior. It took a while for us to finally get all the information, but gossip moved fast in that neighborhood too. The guy was apparently driving intoxicated and was trying to turn down our block.
Starting point is 01:42:44 May was probably already outside, ready to head back, and was in the road for whatever reason. We don't know, but this guy had hit her. We unfortunately were towards the other end of the street, and if there was any noise, it was most likely drowned out by the fireworks. The guy then picked her up, took her back to his place, trying to figure out what to do with her, where she eventually passed from her injuries. I believe the report said she had internal bleeding.
Starting point is 01:43:16 He then buried her in his unfinished basement. as part of the floor was just dirt and sand. Within that time of him bringing her home, her friend was just inside, and came out looking for her everywhere. If she had stayed inside or her friend had come out just a few seconds sooner, this all may have been avoidable. Hell, if we would have insisted that she used our restroom,
Starting point is 01:43:42 it could have been avoided. And that really tore at my wife for a while. So, we found out what happened to her, which was heartbreaking. But we also knew this guy, as he was part of the community as well. He also attended the parties that we had, and sickeningly attended a get-together that we had had at our place afterwards. This guy continued to parade around with the rest of us, and he knew something that we didn't.
Starting point is 01:44:13 We talked about her on occasions with him right there. It must have done a number on him, though, as it was quoted on the news, that he couldn't live with the guilt and wanted her family to have closure. There were so many emotions surrounding those two years, as the neighborhood seemed to crumble a bit afterwards. Some families moved out, including ourselves, because it was just a weird feeling. But the thought that we had a killer so close to us, on a regular basis, It was genuinely terrifying. I just never really know a person, right? I worked as a CO or prison guard at one of the oldest jails in New South Wales.
Starting point is 01:45:10 For those who don't know, it is the state that has Sydney in it. Paramata is one of the bigger cities in the state, I suppose. Since it's closed, I may as well name the place since I don't have to protect anyone. It was the Parramatta Correctional Center, but it was originally called Paramada Jail. I don't know a lot about the history, but I think things happened, and it had to be rebuilt a couple of times. I worked there in late 2010 to 2011 when it was finally shut down for good. It was a freaking crap hole. It was understaffed, filled with rats.
Starting point is 01:45:56 and there were issues with the plumbing. A lot of parts weren't upgraded and still had the old cots in it. Some parts weren't being guarded properly, and some people had managed to escape or come close to it. I remember one bloke was actually stopped a day before he planned to escape. It was built in the late 1800s, and as you can imagine, it did have a lot of history and was a pretty dangerous prison. murderers, sex offenders, gang members, one of the guys who murdered Anita Cobby was in there too.
Starting point is 01:46:34 All sorts of criminals were housed here at different stages. The inmates even managed to get their hands on guns at one point, so you have to wonder how they managed to do it. One of the inmates arrived from a different prison, only to be murdered something like 15 minutes later. it's pretty unbelievable the things that happened there. I don't think a lot of the Australian public know about how bad this prison could be. Over the history of the jail, it served as an asylum after or just before World War II. I can't remember all the history before that. Now that the explanation's out of the way, I'll tell you what I experienced while I worked there.
Starting point is 01:47:18 I was one of the recent hires, and there were times when you could hear footsteps down the long corridor that did not come from a prisoner or the other COs. One of the old-timers told me that this was a common occurrence, and to just not let it bother me. At first, I would brush it off, but then it kept happening. I can't tell you how often it would happen. It wasn't every single night when I was on duty. Occasionally it would happen during the day also. Some of the prisoners and other staff members would say that they saw people out of the corner of their eye, only to look again and have nobody standing there.
Starting point is 01:48:02 Some of the cells were pretty unsettling. I never felt comfortable going in them, so I couldn't imagine what it was like to be a prisoner stuck inside of one unable to escape. Some of them would even get worse behavior-wise if they went, into certain cells. I would sometimes feel like I was being followed by something unseen, and you know that feeling that something or someone is standing over you, wanting you to leave and trying to tell you to get away?
Starting point is 01:48:34 Yeah, I felt that. I felt that all the time while I was working there. I would frequently feel nauseous and sick there. There were days when I hated going to work, and I like working, and I rarely, if I'm ever took sick days at my previous jobs. My GP thought that I was developing some kind of anxiety disorder. It makes sense. I was working with some of the most dangerous men in the country.
Starting point is 01:49:02 I've grown up in rough areas, housing commission, and I attended some rough schools with bad reputations, and I knew a lot of gang members. Hell, I grew up with some of them. I understand the culture, not to get in. involved, but be firm and fair with the inmates. Don't be a push-over, and there was a good chance you would be fine. This, however, was a completely different feeling altogether. You could feel the pain and the hatred within the prison.
Starting point is 01:49:37 I didn't believe in ghosts until I started working there, and this job changed how I saw the world. I didn't normally get anxious about anything until I started working there, I had trained in a different prison with no issues. There were times when I needed to step outside and vomit. It felt like somebody was trying to strangle me, but no one was there. I'm not proud of it, but yeah, it is what it is. There are now ghost tours that take place at the jail, and they're pretty popular too. I've been asked a couple of times to go back there to tell people my experiences.
Starting point is 01:50:16 I've declined each time. I've been trying to close that chapter in my life. My wife and my kids want to go on the tours, though, and I can't really tell them what to do. I have asked them not to go, and so far they have agreed. I get nightmares about that place. It isn't every night or anything like that, just once in a blue moon, so to speak. Shadows following me from the dark, whispering and hands reaching out of the cells at me. it could be because I was in a high-stress workplace, and I knew about the history of the jail.
Starting point is 01:50:54 Maybe it's a form of PTSD. I don't know. But that's my story about the Paramountic Correctional Center and some of the things that I've experienced while I worked there. If I can remember some more experiences, I'll send them to your site if people like listening to them, because I do have some more. from my time working there I soon decided that the career choice wasn't for me and that it was time to pack it in I hope you enjoyed my story
Starting point is 01:51:24 and thank you as the Raven Dreams I'm a big fan of your channel keep up the good work my missus would love it if you said hello oh well hello to this person's misses and also don't go on those prison tours because it sounds like that place was pretty terrifying The story takes place over Snapchat.
Starting point is 01:51:55 I was a 16-year-old female in high school, and, as most to my age, I was pretty active on the app. I received a notification that a new friend had added me. They went by a name that I had never heard before, but being the dumb teenager I was, I accepted their friend request anyway out of curiosity. I noticed that their snap score was extremely low. A snap score determines how active a person is on their Snapchat account. The higher the snap score, the longer they've had the account. The fact that their snap score was extremely low made it seem as if they had just created this account very recently.
Starting point is 01:52:36 They started to message me right away after I accepted. Almost immediately I could tell that this was a fake account that somebody had created. They started chatting with me, and they then started to send me inappropriate pictures. of themselves, their face was never in the pictures, and an inappropriate picture I assume they found online. They would harass me and say really cruel things to me, as if they had it out for me. I would tell them off because their harassment towards me made me feel very upset and targeted. I would later find out a few things about them, one of them being that they followed me on Instagram. They sent me a screenshot of my profile. This was definitely somebody that I knew.
Starting point is 01:53:19 They also admitted that they went to the same high school as me. I decided to block them soon afterwards. For years, throughout the rest of high school and even after, I would get random accounts from the same name and different names doing the exact same thing. Sending inappropriate pictures and being very hateful and stalker-ish towards me. This made it hard because, since they used different names sometimes, I would just assume it was someone from school whom I didn't. know who got my username from one of my friends.
Starting point is 01:53:53 Sometimes I would be anxious to walk home alone after school, thinking they may try and follow me and get me alone. They made around 10 accounts in total over the few years that this took place. What I found even more creepy is they went as far as to add me on Snapchat on my birthday. And when I accepted, they wished me a happy birthday, which meant that they knew my birth date. they did this on my graduation day too. On my graduation day, they also said more cruel things to me, almost as if they were trying to ruin my graduation.
Starting point is 01:54:30 This person really hated me for some reason, yet I could never think of who it could have been. I couldn't think of anyone at school or elsewhere that could have possibly hated me this much, to target me like this. Unfortunately, I never found out who it was. I assumed it was somebody that I rejected, or my ex, but either way, this person was very unstable. I'm in college now, and thankfully this has stopped. I have a new account on Snapchat with a unique username, so it's much harder for anyone to find me. Lily here again.
Starting point is 01:55:19 I mentioned before that I'm a freshman in high school, so ninth grade for me. I'm 15 as of now. This story is, though, from the 7th or 8th grade, or maybe even from the summer between those two grades. But it was definitely warm, and I was 13 or 14. I'm not going to mention the name of the town I was in, the one that my mom lives in, is where I was, since I was staying with her and my stepdad at the time. Since my mother is a realtor and leader of her own team, she owns an office building. I also have an electric scooter, both irrelevant.
Starting point is 01:55:57 This was either the first or second time that I was allowed to go downtown where my mother's offices by myself. I was on my electric scooter, which makes my trip 10 to 30 minutes faster. As I mentioned beforehand, this was my first or second time going by myself, so I wasn't sure about the path. On this trip, I managed to forget where to turn, so I missed the turn that I needed to take. I was in front of a hotel in my town, going back home, since I couldn't find my way around downtown. This older guy on this bike, I believe he may have been homeless, but he came out from behind the bush or two in front of me and he was on the grass and I was on the sidewalk. It was, for some reason, hard to hear him. It probably was just me, though, but he started talking to me.
Starting point is 01:56:52 He said something like, That's the kind of scooter that runs on milk and cookies, and he laughed. I gave a fake smile. He said some more, but I can't remember what. I just kept giving the same fake smile and nodding, hardly saying anything since the guy was giving off. Some pretty weird vibes.
Starting point is 01:57:15 I'm pretty shy and introverted, but I'm completely willing to meet others and have small talk and stuff. but I wanted to get away from this guy, which is normally weird. I don't usually feel that way when in a normal conversation with somebody. Another thing that he said, again, not 100% sure what he said, but this is what I remember. I met this one girl, and I said that I had to show her something in my hotel room that I got here. She followed me, and I had a safe full of money, and she was like, what? I can't remember if that's exactly what he said, but,
Starting point is 01:57:51 That's what I currently remember. In the back of my mind, I thought, this almost sounds like this guy kidnapped a girl. It sounded more sinister since it was different wording then. And then I finally got the chance to say, Hey, I got to go, I'm hungry and need to get back home. And then I left. I didn't leave the house much on my own for a week or two,
Starting point is 01:58:14 maybe even a month. One day, a while later, I was going to Burger King to get chicken nuggets for my golden retriever named Zora. I was leaving it, and I'm pretty sure that I saw him again. He yelled, hey, as a greeting in my direction, and I just ignored it. And I haven't seen him since. I want to start off by saying that I'm not someone who hangs out in the bush very often.
Starting point is 01:58:54 If ever, I've only been because I was dragged out there by my partner. I prefer being in the city, and after this I'm in no rush to go into the bush or any rural areas. I hate the heat, the bugs, the sunburn, and being away from all of the modern luxuries. My partner is the complete opposite. He loves nature, always has, and going out into the bush. It's like the Australian version of a forest, and I'm not really sure. what the technical name is. We were going out around the Katoomba area.
Starting point is 01:59:36 It's close to the Blue Mountains, and I admit that some of the scenery is beautiful. Since it has some nice little boutique, Airbnbs, and nice restaurants, too. Since it's in the mountains, the temperature tends to be quite cool, and, of course, my partner decided to take me camping there out of the blue and didn't think to tell me. Sure, he packed the basic items that I would need, but I wish he would have told me, mainly so that I could have avoided going and trying to come up with some other plans. But after huffing on my part, I decided to give it a go to see how it went. So, we went camping.
Starting point is 02:00:22 And not the kind where there is a toilet camp. block and you're in a field with modern amenities. No. To my partner, that isn't even real camping. So we had to drive, leave the car, and walk a long way to the campsite. It was one of those go out into the bush to do your business kind of places. While we walked to the campsite, my partner told me how happy and excited he was to try this out.
Starting point is 02:00:53 I was happy that he was happy, I guess. We found the area, and it was nothing but dirt. There was a campfire site further down the pathway, but that was it. I groaned and watched when my partner enthusiastically put up the tent that we would be sleeping in. I told him that I was going to have a look around, and he told me not to wander off. He had absolutely no need to tell me that. The site was maintained, so it wasn't quite bushland. There wasn't a lot of leaves or twigs everywhere, and there were signs up.
Starting point is 02:01:36 Mainly, it was about how to manage fires, to clean up after yourselves, and that sort of thing. There were warnings about cliffs in the distance, and after that, I stopped paying attention. After a while, I started getting a creepy feeling. It was too quiet for me. I didn't want to say anything and ruin the good time that my partner was having, but I kept having the feeling that I was being watched by something. I hated that feeling. I also hated how I wouldn't be able to sit on my phone either.
Starting point is 02:02:13 I needed to maintain the charge in case of an emergency, and my partner wanted to be disconnected from it all. We went for a walk, came back, got dinner ready, chatted, ate, and this is a little personal, but we made love under the stars. I don't know how much you want me to go into detail, and I guess I should censor it. It was beautiful. I have to admit that I was enjoying it. It was starting to get colder, so we moved into the tent, keeping the light on while we did what we did. it was nice, and we didn't have to worry about the neighbors complaining about us again. We went about it when I thought I saw the shadow of a person watching us from the corner of my eye.
Starting point is 02:03:01 In the blink of an eye, it was gone. My partner thought that it was funny, and, like the cheeky prick that he is, started teasing me about it. I laughed about it with him until I saw it watching me again. It was far too big to be a human. It looked like a giant ape of some kind. I couldn't see what color it was because it was dark, but it was hairy and it had those big arms. Kind of like how gorillas do.
Starting point is 02:03:32 It wasn't bearing its teeth or anything. It was just watching. But it isn't every day that something like that happens. I let out a scream and it scared the crap out of my boyfriend. in a panic I told him what he saw and he, like an idiot, went out with a baseball bat to threaten whoever it was. He said that he saw it run into the bush, but he couldn't see exactly where it went. I told him that we were going home at first light. I was done.
Starting point is 02:04:05 I didn't want anything to do with going camping, and my monthly curse had come. I only say this because it is needed later on. We left, and I wanted to completely put the incident behind us. Before we left, my partner looked at the bushes and things like he was a tracker. He said that he saw a footprint out there that was huge, not that I saw it, nor wanted to see it. My partner, on the other hand, wanted to know everything about it. Now, there are different names for it, but the Yowie is the most common one. as he researched more
Starting point is 02:04:44 he also told me that Yawees were interested in women and tended to appear more when they were on their cycles they have quite a large range and there were some other sightings in the area that we were at there was one as recent as about six months to a year ago not that he told me that before we went he told me that they could mimic bird sounds and some sites said that they could mimic voices
Starting point is 02:05:11 I didn't hear anything, so I don't know any of that. It did scare me, though, and it confirmed all of my beliefs that I should never, ever go camping ever again. I don't know what to think. But, yeah, that was my encounter with a Yowie while I was camping with my partner. I never want to go anywhere near the bush ever again. And you will never catch me camping again either. For context, this happened when I was around 12. I'm 19 now and I am female.
Starting point is 02:05:58 Anyways, I've always been very street smart and was very mature at a very young age. It ended up helping out a lot in my favor. I used to have a best friend that was like a sister to me growing up, so her family was like family to me as well. We used to go to our local theme park all the time. we had year passes. One day when we went, her mom and two sisters, six and eight, also went with us. On the way there, the older one had to go use the restroom, so we stopped at the closest place,
Starting point is 02:06:33 which ended up being a Circle K. Her mom had a small civic that was older, so we had the windows halfway up to let their air in, because the AC was garbage. And when they went to the bathroom, I somehow ended up in the front seat. I think I had a gut feeling that something was wrong. And I stayed in the car with their youngest sister while everyone else went inside. I then noticed a man come out of the store, take a look at us, and then look at his car, then back to us.
Starting point is 02:07:04 He was obviously thinking about something. Not necessarily anything bad, but you could visually tell that he was thinking of what to do. He then puts the stuff he just bought in his car, gets in and grabs something. He then gets out of his car and comes right up to the driver's side door. I was in the passenger, and reaches his arm through the window to dangle a small, single pearl necklace in my face, and asked me if it was mine. I said no, and he asked again if I was sure, with such a weird, like, giddy smile that he was hiding.
Starting point is 02:07:41 And the same smile he had looking for the thing. I had my hand on the door as soon as I saw him, and the only thing going through my mind was protecting the six-year-old in the back seat, who was out of the car seat and leaned up on the center console to see what he was showing me. I lightly but sternly pushed her back to show her something was wrong. I luckily have always been that way, and so my fight instinct kicked in very fast, and I told him off, and then I rolled the window up on his arm. I can't remember exactly what I said, but to make a longer than necessarily,
Starting point is 02:08:17 story short. We called the police and we couldn't proceed with anything because he never directly asked me to get in the car with him. But I know that his intentions were not good. His whole vibe was horrible. I'm so glad that I was not alone in the situation, as I might have frozen up or something. I hope that this guy is somewhere far away from everyone, though. I think about it sometimes and I just pray that he hasn't done the same thing again since.
Starting point is 02:08:47 Hi, okay, so I guess I'm bringing you a ghost story, or maybe several, depending on how much I can write. At least, I think they were ghosts. It happened in an area called The Rocks, and some explanations about it are necessary. Otherwise, you're not going to understand what I'm talking about. The Rocks is an area in Sydney. It has some of the oldest pubs in the... country, and it's a real touristy area, too. It was one of the first building sites used by the early British settlers, and originally
Starting point is 02:09:37 there were the Categal Aboriginal people. It has had a rocky past, pun totally intended. I think over a hundred homes were destroyed in order to make room for the Sydney Harbour Bridge. There have been plagues, gang activity, and it's had constant. convicts, prostitutes, and recently it has been gentrified a lot. But it still has times when it can be pretty rough. Essentially, the area has a lot of history, and not all of it has been pleasant. There are even ghost tours that take place around the area.
Starting point is 02:10:16 However, I've never been on one personally. I thought that ghost stories were just to try to add another tourist cash cow to the area. I'm not going to go into a lot of detail about the stories I've heard or what ones have been promoted, nor will I be telling you about the local legends or anything like that. You wanted true experiences that people have been through. I also haven't bothered to see if anyone else had gone through something similar either. So, here's mine. I was walking down through the rocks at nighttime.
Starting point is 02:10:52 Keep in mind, the city is still active. during the night, and it isn't strange to see people walking around. I was walking to get a drink after catching up with some friends at one of the local restaurants. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to stay out late and completely enjoy the evening with them because I had to work the next day. Part of the joy of dealing with a bunch of adult schedules, I was enjoying looking out at the water and at the boats. It was so peaceful that people often...
Starting point is 02:11:25 forget the history that comes with the place. Then I heard giggling, and I saw a couple of kids hanging out by the water. It was pretty late, and most of the children would have been asleep by this time. I looked around for any sign of their parents or adults that they would have come with, and I walked toward one of the cafes that was in the area. There was no one to be found that could be their parents. I didn't want these kids to fall in or deal with any danger, so I decided to approach them to see what was happening. I knew they would likely be wary of strangers, which, who wouldn't be, right?
Starting point is 02:12:06 When I walked toward them, I had this feeling that I was intruding, and I wasn't wrong. These kids didn't act like they were scared or otherwise in danger. They were minding their business, and, well, I sure is hell. wish I would have been minding mine. I walked up and asked them if they were all right. It was quiet. I could have sworn that time had almost stopped for just a moment. The children froze, and they didn't look at me.
Starting point is 02:12:39 I gulped. I wish that I took the hint and just left it alone, but I asked them again if they were all right, and if they wanted me to call somebody. But nothing. I decided at that moment, that they were probably warned about strangers, and it was only now that I realized that something wasn't quite right with the children.
Starting point is 02:13:02 They were dressed in old-style clothing. Maybe 1920s? Earlier or maybe a little later, I'm not sure. I don't know a lot about these sorts of things. The clothing was rotten and torn, and there was a disgusting smell coming from them. They were sickly, blocked. pale in color, and looking at them in the mixed light, I could have sworn their hair had seaweed and shells in it.
Starting point is 02:13:31 I must have whispered, what the hell or something like that, and one of the boys slowly turned his head to look at me. I fell backwards at the sight. It was absolutely awful. His face was hollowed out, like the skin had been ripped off by something, and his eye sockets were empty. There were no eyes to be seen. I couldn't tell if he was smiling or sneering at me. Either way, I didn't care. I needed to get out of there as fast as I could. I turned and ran as quickly as possible in the opposite direction. I could hear those damned kids giggling in the background.
Starting point is 02:14:13 I ran until I reached the nearest bus stop to wait for my bus to get home. My body finally gave up, and I was hunched over, casping for air. Hell, I was heaving, and all of my limbs ached from running. I did get home safe, and nothing weird happened, although I was jumpy for ages after this. You know when there's any slight noise that freaks you out? Yeah, that was what was happening to me. I haven't really told anyone about what I saw or what happened.
Starting point is 02:14:48 I don't think that the ghost kid was trying to hurt me, just. just trying to get me to respect their space. And I learned my lesson. I'm never going to try that sort of thing ever again. I haven't stopped going to the rocks. I'm not the sort to stop living my life because it made someone else unhappy. I don't like looking at the water as much anymore, and I think about how many bodies must have been thrown in there over the years.
Starting point is 02:15:16 I haven't done any research into who those kids could have been when they were alive, It's awful that they died while they were so young. You could say that I have had another encounter or a few encounters afterwards. I have seen the kids once in a blue moon. They seem to be watching me, but otherwise, they don't bother me and I don't bother them. We just show mutual respect. So, yeah, don't annoy the ghosts down at the rocks. Who knows what might happen if you don't give them the respect and space that they deserve.
Starting point is 02:16:07 All right. I spent my entire slow day at work yesterday reading through this sub, so now I want to share my little story. My childhood best friend, Marie, and I were around 11 or 12 years old at the time. Marie's family had their own campsite in a provincial park, about two hours from our hometown, and would spend the entire summer each year living in their camper out there. This particular summer I was able to go and stay with them for a week, and we were excited to spend our time adventuring around the forest. On the last night that I was there,
Starting point is 02:16:46 we decided that we wanted to hurry down to the ice cream shop by the lake before it closed. It was early evening at this point, still pretty bright out, but beginning to lose light. The path that we took was down a short slope right next to the main road, with maybe 10 feet of thick brush and trees in between. On the other side was the forest, with more tall, thick brush. So we were walking along, not seeing a single other person on the path in front or behind us. We hear a sudden rustling and snapping of branches,
Starting point is 02:17:23 similar to the sound of maybe a deer moving through the woods, I wouldn't have thought anything of it, but then the sound of running footsteps followed. Marie glances back and suddenly grabs my arm, urging me under her breath not to look back. At the same time, the running stops. I don't know why I didn't ignore her and get a look myself. I guess that I could sense the very real fear in her voice and chose to listen. We both start to panic. Getting that feeling like when you're running up the stairs after turning the basement light off,
Starting point is 02:18:03 we pick up speed as much as we can without breaking into a sprint, knowing that the ice cream shop is only about a minute walk away at this point. The path soon breaks and we're in the parking lot. Suddenly, Marie steers me hard to the left heading towards the lake and the boat rental instead of continuing straight to the ice cream shop. Then I go along with it silently. understanding that ice cream is no longer an interest right now. Marie is clearly panicking at this point.
Starting point is 02:18:35 We're both looking around, but it seems that whatever scared her is nowhere in sight at this point. Marie walks up to the boat rental and gets us a kayak, and we climb in and begin to paddle out to the middle of the lake. As we paddle, she tells me that there was a man behind us and that the man had stopped running at us very abruptly upon making eye contact with her. He'd been wearing a long black coat with the hood up, despite it being the middle of July, and he had a terrible smirk on his face,
Starting point is 02:19:06 and she swore that as he stopped running, she saw him put something shiny away into his coat. He appeared to have just emerged out of the bushes after we walked past, given the sound that we heard right before he came running onto the path. We reached the center of the lake and stopped paddling. I pull out my old Nokia brick phone that my parent, had, thank God, given me just in case, I hand it to Marie and tell her to call her parents to come pick us up. As the phone rings, I see her look out past me to the shore and go pale,
Starting point is 02:19:40 lifting a hand to point to what she's seeing. I turn, and there was the man, stalking his way around the path that circled the edge of the lake and staring out at us. We sat in the middle of the lake and watched him do two full laps, never looking away. from us before finally disappearing. It took a few tries to get a hold of her family. We were freaking out so bad the whole time as the sun got lower and lower. We did manage to have someone come with the truck, but by the time we reached the shore, it was pretty dark outside.
Starting point is 02:20:17 I don't know what we would have done if we hadn't been able to call for a ride. Looking back, I don't know why we didn't just go up to the ice cream shop, inform an adult there and ask her parents to come get us then, but it worked out. We got back safe, and we thankfully never saw that man again. This happened about eight years ago, and I still think about it on the occasion and wonder, what the hell happened. The summer between my freshman and sophomore years of high school, there was this boy that I liked. Being teenagers, we would sneak out in the middle of the night to this park that was really close,
Starting point is 02:21:05 to our houses. One night, about two in the morning, we were sitting on a picnic table on one end of the park, like we normally would, and we did this for months, and it was like any other night. This park is surrounded three quarters of the way by canyons, and the park has a playground,
Starting point is 02:21:24 soccer fields, and a baseball field. We were just hanging out when we saw two people, a man, probably in his 30s, a little heavy set, wearing a round. red baseball cap and a white t-shirt, and a woman who was a bit younger than him. The boy I was with and I watched the two of them walk across the baseball field and into the canyon.
Starting point is 02:21:47 We didn't think anything of it. Maybe they were just going to have relations in the canyon. I don't know. Some people did that. Maybe five minutes later we started to hear screaming. I was not going crazy because it startled the boy that I was with, too. It was nothing like I have ever heard. The screaming was ear-piercing and absolutely horrifying.
Starting point is 02:22:12 After about 20 seconds, everything fell silent. We didn't hear anything, but a little while later, maybe a few minutes, the man came walking back out of the canyon, but without the girl. He started walking towards where we were sitting and we just dipped. We got the hell out of there. We grabbed all of our stuff and ran home. I don't know if he saw us, but we were not sticking around to find out. It was quite dark, so it wouldn't surprise me if he didn't notice anyone was there
Starting point is 02:22:44 until he saw two teenagers taking off to the playground. For the next two to three months, I looked all over the internet and would go look around the canyon for anything to explain what happened. I never found anything, online or in the canyon. I still have no idea what happened that night. this was probably one of the scariest and creepiest things that has ever happened to me. I would also like to say that I was about 14 or 15 when this happened and was a selfish teenager preoccupied with themselves.
Starting point is 02:23:19 So, no, I didn't call the police. I should have. I think back on it and beat myself up for not saying anything, but at the time I was only concerned about getting in trouble for sneaking out with the boy.
