Also, if the platform you're on has the option to rate the podcast or leave a comment, and please consider doing so. And as always, thank you. I had this story written out for quite some time now, but I was hesitant to share it just because.
Starting point is 00:01:18 I'm sure it can lead to bad memories for some. But after getting permission from those involved, I decided it would be a good idea, if not just as another way of telling those that you can get away from a toxic relationship as well. So this is a quick warning to my story. After college, I moved back to my home state and into a house with an old friend of mine, Alma. She lived in a house that was owned by her parents, and she just paid them rent.
Starting point is 00:01:54 However, it was a three-bedroom two bath, so she figured, why not have a few friends that she trusted move in? that way it makes the rent even less. So, I made the long drive back home, and Alma greeted me and helped me bring in the few belongings that I had. After talking for some time, our other roommates showed up, and Alma introduced us. Her name was Yassinia, and they met at a local community college that they went to. She was a very sweet girl. She was always very polite. and considerate of us
Starting point is 00:02:34 when it came to anything she did around the house. She was fun to hang out with around the house, or to just talk to. And she quickly opened up to me as well. Another thing that I learned about her was that she had horrible taste in men, which also ties into me meeting her boyfriend.
Starting point is 00:02:56 Let's call him Rick. You could tell that he thought very highly of himself, He was self-absorbed and very inconsiderate. That alone was infuriating, but the outward aggression to Yassinia, and sometimes us, was unbelievable. When they were playing around and he was fed up, he would smack her arm or shove her back and raise his voice at her. Not that it's any better doing it in private, but it was just awkward seeing it happen in front of us. Because of all of his antics, Alma said that he wasn't allowed over there anymore. Yassena seemed indifferent about it, though.
Starting point is 00:03:39 Like she knew what was going on, wasn't right, but she accepted the outcome. Hell, we even tried convincing her that she should probably just leave him. Because if it hadn't already, it was bound to get worse. But, as they always do, she claimed that she would be okay. So we just moved on from there. It wasn't until a couple months after this, so maybe about eight months since I moved in, I believe, that this all happened. Yizenia had started staying at Rick's place more and more.
Starting point is 00:04:17 It was just on the weekends, but it became more and more frequent. Until one time, she texted Alma stating that she was going over there, and when she would be back, and then we didn't see her for a week. No calls, or texts, nothing. We were rightfully worried. I even dropped by her work and asked for her. She worked at a salon and they knew me and Alma,
Starting point is 00:04:44 so they told me that she didn't finish all of her appointments a couple of days prior and had called in the last two days. Unfortunately, we didn't have the slightest idea where Rick lived. other than it was an apartment. And, since her co-workers confirmed that it was her that called in, the police couldn't file a missing persons either. So, all we could do was wait around. Finally, she came home one night,
Starting point is 00:05:15 while we were both watching a movie in the living room. I think that she was hoping we would be in bed by then, as we startled each other when she entered. She started piecing things together, pretty quickly the more that we stood there talking and asking questions she had a pretty poor makeup job on her chin and her cheek and where she was trying to cover up bruises we begged her to cut it off with him before things got worse and she said that she would she just had to get him to calm down as well as the swelling before he would let her go
Starting point is 00:05:52 We tried to keep her occupied as much as possible, and we even took her to work, hoping that he wouldn't show up if her car wasn't there. I thought that we did a pretty good job, too. Not the time. It wasn't too long after she returned, though, maybe a bit longer than a week. The bruising was pretty much gone, and she even seemed to be acting like herself again. I was off this day and offered to take her to work, and she declined, saying that she was going to drive herself. She said she was going straight to work and then back home with no other plans, and, knowing her schedule, I thought it would be fine, so I agreed.
Starting point is 00:06:36 I was wanting to make something specific for dinner that night, so after going to the store that day, I went home and started prepping. That's when I realized I had forgotten something that I needed, or was low on said item. I didn't want to go back to the store, so I texted Alma asking her to get it on her way home. A few hours later, Yassena actually texted me saying that she was going to stop by the store and wanted to let me know. I thought this was perfect, and I asked her to get me what I needed instead, and then told Alma, never mind. While I was making dinner, though, I noticed it had been about two hours since Yassena got off work, and thought that she definitely should have been home by this point.
Starting point is 00:07:25 She didn't work more than about 20 minutes from our place, and the store probably would have only added about an hour, and that was being generous. So I called her to see if she was okay. She didn't answer, and, in fact, it kind of seemed like my call was ignored. So I tried calling again, and it went straight to voicemail. I started to become worried so I called Alma to have her try too, and she had the same results.
Starting point is 00:07:57 She agreed to swing by her work in the store to see if she could see her car, and I started putting stuff away so I could help. And we had also talked to Yassena into giving us his address as well, in case anything ever happened again. So my plan was to drive by there to see if I could find her too. We had a feeling that she was still talking to him, but she was an adult, so we could only say or suggest or do so much. She had to make her own choices, but I was praying that she at least wasn't still seeing him or trying to work it out with him. I went to my room to grab my purse, and as I was leaving, I heard the door open and slammed shut, as well as heavy breathing. From the front door, you enter the living room and to the right is the kitchen. Straight back from the kitchen was the hall that led to Yassena's room and a bathroom,
Starting point is 00:08:56 and the hall to the left of the kitchen led to mine and Alma's room, with our shared bathroom. As I started walking towards the living room, I called out, hoping that it was Yassena, when she came running around the wall visibly shaken. I tried to ask her what was wrong, but it took everything I could to snap. her back. She'd been crying. Her hair was a mess, and she looked genuinely terrified. She told me it was Rick, that he was trying to get her to get into his car, and that he had a gun. Sure, I was scared, but I tried to calm her and say that she was safe. But then she mentioned
Starting point is 00:09:38 that he followed her. It didn't take long for me to piece it together. So, I told her to go hide in my room. thinking that he wouldn't think to check there, hopefully, and immediately went to make sure the door was locked and to grab my phone from the charger in the living room. To my relief, Yoshenya had locked the door, but as I looked through the blinds, I saw Rick walking up. I didn't know what to do, so I tried playing it off when he started banging on it.
Starting point is 00:10:12 I tapped on the window when he noticed me, and I yelled at the door that he used. wasn't supposed to be there. It became a short argument at that point, him asking for Yassena, and I told him she wasn't there. He tried to call my bluff because her car was out front, but I tried convincing him that she probably parked it there to throw him off, and that she may have gone to the gas station down the street.
Starting point is 00:10:38 That's when I noticed that he just got quiet, but he hadn't left. I quickly learned what his next plan was. when he started throwing himself at the door. I grabbed my phone and I called 911 and ran to my room. I saw Yassena peeking her head out from my closet, and I told her to stay hidden. As I started explaining to the operator what was happening, I heard a loud crash, and then I could hear him yelling for her. I heard him throwing and smashing things, and then he got close to my room.
Starting point is 00:11:14 Our rooms don't have locks. so all I could do was stand there frozen as to what he could do. He stood in my doorway with his weapon of choice in hand, and demanded that I tell him where she was. Again, I tried telling him that she wasn't there, and he threatened to come back for me if I was lying. I thought I was going to die, or at least get sick right there.
Starting point is 00:11:41 It seemed like it lasted forever, and in the back of my mind, I was angry that no one had shown up yet for help at this point, but as he grabbed my wrist again demanding me to go with him to find her, I started pulling back when I could hear the sirens getting louder. It didn't take him long to process what was happening, as he let go of me, running off and leaving me to fall to the floor. I got up, and I checked to see where he went, but our place was empty. Then I heard a cop call out from the door. Yassena and I immediately ran out and started explaining what had happened. Apparently, she was using the store as an excuse to see him.
Starting point is 00:12:28 She said that she wanted to meet in public and only talk briefly. However, he had other ideas and tried dragging her back to his car, but she had managed to escape and drive back here. Then, I told him what happened. at our place, and I gave him his description. That part was more for confirmation as they saw a guy running from our backyard, and they said that he had thrown something over a fence, so they stopped him. So, thankfully, he wasn't out for long.
Starting point is 00:13:00 I know we probably shouldn't have pushed her so hard, but we did convince her to press charges. So between what he did to me and her and the damage to Alma's house, he went away for a long time. Yassena went to stay with her mom for a while, but still came over a lot to hang out with us, as we continued to live together for several years. As bad as it was,
Starting point is 00:13:27 I definitely think we all became closer and have this cool sister bond now. All jokes aside, though, I know that those situations are never easy. But just watch for those. warning signs and ask for help if you ever need it. And as for Rick, I hope you never meet anyone outside of that cell ever again. So two Halloweens ago, I did something kind of dumb. Let me start at the beginning. I started working at a small local pizza shop in my hometown. After a few days,
Starting point is 00:14:19 I became really good work friends with the early morning housekeeper for the bar next door. They actually owned the pizza shop. She was really cool and dark, very mysterious. Along with her, I made friends with some of the cooks. One cook and I started hanging out almost every weekend. Eventually, the housekeeper became comfortable with us coming over. Now, I was not expecting what I walked into. Her house was like the party store threw up Halloween and horror into her house.
Starting point is 00:14:58 She had many odd collections, stones, dead flowers, herbs, and many, many books on witches and black magic. Her prized possession was a real human skull that she got off of a crackhead many, many years. prior. Needless to say, it took some warming up to get used to her house. Though spooky, it was still very much inviting. Cuts to Halloween of 2020, and it's a full moon. Halloween was my friend's only holiday that she ever celebrated, so we went big. By this time, the cook we'd made friends with had absolutely become insufferable to be around, so we need. We need to be around, so we hatched an idea to scare the absolute piss out of him. The plan?
Starting point is 00:15:52 My friend and her daughter and I sat down to talk about what we wanted to do. I mentioned how it was a full moon, so how about we go to the oldest cemetery near us at midnight, and just do some EVPs and stuff? They said absolutely. Now, I'll just name my lady friend T. Tee was very in to black magic. She wanted to take her witch's bell and open a portal. I didn't really believe her, but I went with it.
Starting point is 00:16:24 Her daughter chimed in with the brilliant idea to construct a mock-debic box, and when we got there, she would smash it on the ground and start acting up to scare the cook-off. We should have known better. Well, I should have. Halloween night. We were a bit late getting out the door, but as well, I should have. but at about 1130 that night we left T's place. The cook drove and I sat shotgun.
Starting point is 00:16:55 T and her daughter were in the back, her daughter with a Divac box in hand. We had told him she ordered it offline. Tee did an amazing job making it look absolutely authentic. So, as we drove, we didn't think much about the box. I'd brought my EVP recorder and EMS, detector with us. I set the EMF detector in the
Starting point is 00:17:19 door as we drove and had it off. All of a sudden, T's daughter giggled and shook the mockedivik box. And out of nowhere, my EMF reader starts to sound off and beep. It wasn't on. We all went silent
Starting point is 00:17:37 and the whole mood shifted. We got to the cemetery and all kind of nervously got out of the car. The whole area was glowing. The leaves glistening in the moonlight and the tombstones were almost ethereal with the glow from the granite reflecting the moon. Clear skies, and all alone we slowly made our way to the back part of the cemetery. It was so beyond silent out there.
Starting point is 00:18:07 We find a good spot, and T says, okay, everyone's sit in a circle. She then opens a container and pours her sacred salt mix. around us and warns us not to leave for any reason until we are done. At this point, I'm ready to go home. The cook looks terrified. I'm absolutely dreading the feeling in the air, so we all sit. T puts the box in the middle of us and puts both the EMF and EVP recorder next to it. Her daughter starts playing a spirit box app, and the sound that came out of it silenced us.
Starting point is 00:18:45 Let me out, it said. Then the EMF went nuts. Suddenly, I got that gut-sinking feeling that I wasn't alone with them anymore and we were in serious trouble. Silence falls over us, and we all kind of just stare at each other. Now, me, T, and her daughter had not at all planned on this box actually being real, but somehow she had managed to catch some entity inside. Then, like we were snapped from a trance, we realized that there was walking coming from the woods, inches from us.
Starting point is 00:19:29 We can clearly see that no one is there. I closed my eyes and grabbed T's hand and said, Okay, I'm officially scared, what do we do? She said it's fine and that ghosts weren't real. I said, you and I have. both know that's a lie. As I said that, the cook stands up and says,
Starting point is 00:19:51 yo, guys, I think we really need to get the heck out of here. I can hear people all around us. At this point, he kicks the salt circle open and starts walking to the car. A T's daughter smashes the box and says, screw it, let's go.
Starting point is 00:20:08 So we all frantically follow. When us girls got home, we knew that we had messed up. We didn't close the door that we opened. We actually caught something in this box. We might have let it out there on accident. All I know is since then, none of us four have been right.
Starting point is 00:20:30 I never feel like I'm alone. And if I'm working alone, I always have to double check that I'm really alone. I've always believed in the paranormal, but now I'm a firm believer in black magic and, witchcraft. Thoughts, opinions, or advice. Shortly after this, we all had a falling out, and we no longer speak to each other. I've always believed in paranormal activity to some extent growing up, ghosts and demons, but I never believed in curses. I always thought you had to be dead to deal with the supernatural. I was abused regularly as a child.
Starting point is 00:21:24 and I remember always wanting to know when it would happen next, but I never told anyone, mostly because I thought they would kill me, and I wanted to know before. On this particular night, I was locked in the garage. I was so tired since I had to stay up for days, but I was without food, so I did my normal routine and snuck out to find food. I often ate bugs.
Starting point is 00:21:54 I know, judge me all you want, but they kept me from being hungry. When I went to pick up this specific bug to eat it, it bit me. So I let it go and went back inside, as I'd already eaten a bit, and luckily found a sandwich that was trashed. When I got back in, I remember being instantly tired and laying down on the ground, falling asleep. I was no more than six, but I remember. remember this vividly that I had woken up but couldn't move and a voice spoke to me.
Starting point is 00:22:32 It was a simple question. Do you want help? I wasn't sure what it meant and couldn't move, but the thing approached me. It stood over me and asked again, and asked if I was hungry and why I wasn't loved. I didn't know. I stayed in this dream like stayed for a while as the creature. creature asked me questions. After a while, I felt myself waking up, and it asked me again if I wanted help. It asked me if I wanted to prevent it, so I said yes. When I fully woke
Starting point is 00:23:10 up, I was starving, which was odd. After a while, I thought I dreamt it, and when I checked my hand for the bug bite, I didn't have one, so I assumed I dreamt it up and never actually ate that night. A couple of days went by before I was locked without food again, and went to eat bugs, dig through the trash, etc. After I ate a certain bug, I knew something was wrong. It just didn't taste good and had a ton of liquid in it. I ignored it until I finished my dinner and went back inside, then lived my normal life.
Starting point is 00:23:51 Suddenly, when things happened, I had deja vu. I didn't know what it was at the time, but as time flew by, I discovered it. And I'd always think of that dream that I had. The abuse never stopped, though, not until many years later. There were times that I should have died, but I got by just fine. I didn't have to eat bugs much longer, though. I was eating leftovers, or my siblings snuck me food. Fast forward, I recently got into a car.
Starting point is 00:24:24 crash. And right before, for whatever reason, I leaned to the other side of the car and got a huge sense of deja vu. I knew exactly how it went. I, word for word, remembered everything the doctor said to me. The car that hit us, the food I got after. In the short while I was unconscious that same figure visited me. He said the deal was made and he left. If I hadn't moved, I would have been blinded by the glass, and my leg would have got jammed by the car. Ever since that, I haven't had any deja vu and feel like a piece of me is missing. Honestly, I'm not sure what the figure got out of it, but I'm sure that that was what saved me.
Starting point is 00:25:16 I've wanted to find it again, but I'm sure it wouldn't have left if it hadn't gotten what it wanted. I've tried looking into it. But I keep getting that it was just a dream. And you had a lucky break, or thank God. But I feel like it was something more. I have a story that happened back whenever I was about 17, and lived in the small town that I was born and raised in. I don't really want to put too much out there about where it is,
Starting point is 00:25:56 just saying that it's a southern Midwest, in a town that no one here would probably know the name of. If it helps, the most exciting thing that happened to me while I lived there was when I got a job working the overnight shift at the new Casey's General Store during the summer between my junior and senior years. If you're unfamiliar with what a Casey's is, it's a gas station that also sells some fairly mediocre pizza and a lot of candy, but sometimes that mediocre pizza just hits differently. It's really hard to explain, honestly, but it's an okay place to work if you don't mind cashiering and sweeping for hours on end. Anyways, when I hit 16, my parents were really pushy about me getting a job to pay for myself. And then, when I hit 17, they were really pushy about me getting a job. I get it.
Starting point is 00:27:00 We didn't have a lot of money as a family. and I was the oldest of three kids, and I don't necessarily blame them, but it was still incredibly stressful to be essentially pushed out into the world like that. They honestly were breathing down my neck and telling me to get out, but it is what it is. It wasn't even like I wasn't doing well in school. I wasn't valedictorian by any means, but I was an A, B, average student. In the end, I basically just got tired of the news,
Starting point is 00:27:33 nagging and went out to look for a part-time job, so they would quit asking. Thankfully, my town had just opened up a new gas station on the corner. Not gas station was, you guessed it, the Casey's General Store. It was an incredibly simple interview process. I told them that I had literally no experience in anything, and they told me that I would start the next Monday. Simpler times, I guess. Anyways, I went home and told my parents that I got hired for the overnight at Casey's, and they were less than thrilled.
Starting point is 00:28:09 My dad asked why I didn't ask to work during the days, and then mentioned that I wouldn't be able to work there for more than a few months on that shift because of school. I shrugged it off and told him that he wanted me to get a job, so I got a job. Even better, it was a job that I could walk to. It was just down the block, and even at night, our small town had little to no traffic. When I started, the job went about as one would expect it to. I went through their couple hours of onboarding and was told that I was going to shadow Ronald, the overnight cashier. I actually knew who Ronald was from around town, if that tells you how smaller town was. Ronald was a 60-something-year-old man that had one hell of a beer gut and a long white beard.
Starting point is 00:29:04 Kind of looked like Santa Claus, to be honest. Ronald was also kind of a pain. He was told to train me, and he took that personally, basically telling me that I had to do what he said as soon as he said it. I just nodded and started watching him do his job. He would occasionally tell me to run here, get this or that, and I would. It was pretty boring, to be completely honest with you.
Starting point is 00:29:34 I shadowed him for about a week, which is way too much time, considering it was just learning how to run the register and sweep or refix the shelves when it wasn't busy. Of course, that boring part of the job, ended pretty much the first night that I was put on register alone, while Ronald was told to stock and clean the store. I knew what I was doing, so I rang up a few people within the first couple of hours with minimal issues. Then, around one in the morning, we had a guy walk in the door that was very clearly inebriated. When I say clearly, I mean this guy was practically swaying, and you could barely understand what he was saying when he spoke. He walked up to the counter with a pack of some sort of beer
Starting point is 00:30:28 and basically told me to ring it up because he, quote, wasn't done with the night. I kind of stared at him for a moment and was trying to decide if I could say no to this guy, considering he was clearly already hammered. Thankfully, I didn't have to do much thinking about it. Ronald walked up and pushed me aside to tell this guy, guy that he would not be purchasing the alcohol, as he was clearly drunk. This guy was very unhappy with that statement, and he started screaming at Ronald and calling him any number of unsavory names. I remember Ronald basically saying,
Starting point is 00:31:10 You can call me whatever you want. I'm not selling to you, and you need to leave before I call the cops. After a bit more back and forth, he finally yelled something and walked away from the counter, and as soon as he did, Ronald looked over at me and told me to go get the phone from the back office to call the cops. At first I didn't get why, but then it kind of clicked. This guy obviously drove here like this, and we definitely needed to get the police out here to be aware that this man was about to get on the road. I agreed, and stepped to get the phone off the receiver, and as soon as I dialed 911, I heard
Starting point is 00:31:53 the bell on the door again. And then the sound of this guy yelling something. The operator answered, and I told her that we had a drunk guy that had come into the store, and that he was attempting to buy more alcohol, and then also mentioned that he
Starting point is 00:32:09 had driven up to the store. She asked if he was still there, and I told her that he had just re-entered the store and was now yelling at my co-worker. As soon as I said this, I heard the man screaming, and then I heard Ronald yelling something back to the man.
Starting point is 00:32:27 I couldn't tell what was being said, but I could tell that Ronald sounded somewhat panicked. I assumed he was just concerned that this guy was coming back in, that is, until I heard the loud bang. I heard two gunshots in secession. Like this guy had pulled the trigger twice on Ronald, and then I heard the sound of a body falling to the ground. I immediately shut and locked the back office door and told the operator that he had just shot my coworker,
Starting point is 00:33:00 and that we needed the police there now. She told me to calm down and that they were on their way and asked me what the guy looked like. I described him as best as I could and told him what car he was driving, but I didn't know the plate number. As she's asking me questions about as much as she can and telling me to stay. calm, I start to hear the sound of the doorknob to the back office be forcefully shaken. I whispered that the man was trying to break into the back office, and she told me that the officers were less than a minute away and to stay as quiet as I could, or to hide if possible. I was in a small room that had been converted into the manager's office.
Starting point is 00:33:47 The only thing to hide under was a folding table that had been converted into a desk, or behind the rack of soda syrups that went to the fountain machine. I just kind of sat there thinking, my God, this is where I die. I'm going to be shot because some drunk guy wanted more beer and we wouldn't sell it to him. I remember thinking that this was the dumbest reason for this to happen and that this all spun out of control for the stupidest of things. I was almost thankful that he was drunk at that moment, though,
Starting point is 00:34:22 because he couldn't seem to figure out how to open the door, and it apparently never occurred to him to just kick it. It was a really flimsy door, one solid kick near the lock, and it would have flown open. Thankfully, that just never occurred to him, and after a few moments of him trying to turn the knob and push the door, I heard the sound of him walking back through the emergency exit, which then triggered the alarm.
Starting point is 00:34:50 Like I said, I just kind of sat there in a daze for several moments, until I heard the officer yelling out into the store, and then I heard one of them knock on the door. I told him it was just me in the room, and he asked me to open the door, so I did. They stepped in to clear the room and then gave me a quick pat-down, since they really weren't sure who the shooter was beyond a basic description. Once that happened,
Starting point is 00:35:19 they escorted me out of the office and out to the front of the building. When I got out there, I saw the EMTs lifting Ronald out onto the stretcher and getting him out of the building. Thankfully, he wasn't dead, just in bad shape with the blood loss and the injuries. They asked me about what had happened, and I explained it all from start to finish. How he came in drunk, we refused to sail, and then he came back. with a gun. They'd called the owner and the manager of the store to come down so they could get the security footage, and they asked me if I needed to contact someone to come and get me.
Starting point is 00:36:01 I told them I was just going to go ahead and walk home that I lived down the block, and they seemed a bit hesitant to let me go, to be honest. That was my first night on the register by myself, and my last night working there. I genuinely could not bring myself to go back after that. After that night, the store actually stopped being 24-7 for a while, probably because it was the only shooting that had happened in our town in a very long time, and no one was willing to work that shift after everything. My parents seemed disappointed that I didn't want to go back to working there,
Starting point is 00:36:42 but after explaining to them what was going through my mind when the guy was trying to bust into the office, I think they kind of got the picture. It was seriously traumatizing, and I really feel like I came close to death. If he had managed to open that door, I would have most likely been shot and killed. I'm thankful that didn't happen, and that Ronald wasn't killed, but it's definitely one of those things that's going to stick with me for the rest of my days. Some time after I turned five years old, I'm I had my first and quite honestly, my only ever experience with sleep paralysis.
Starting point is 00:37:35 It started off as a normal night. My half-siblings were all at their parents' house, and so it was just myself and my parents in the house. We spent the evening watching TV until I eventually fell asleep, and my mom carried me off to bed. To set the scene, I slept in a bunk bed at the time on the bottom mattress, which was opposite of my bedroom door, but faced the wall that the door was on. My parents always left the door open so that they could occasionally check on me, and so the light from the living room TV would shine down the hallway and bounce off of said door,
Starting point is 00:38:19 acting as a nightlight. From where I slept, I could see down the hallway slightly into my parents' room. As I fell into a deeper sleep, I began to dream. In that dream, I woke up right where I was, laying under my blankets and staring up at the ceiling slash the top bunk. Thinking I just woke myself up, I thought nothing of it, and I attempted to roll over to drift back off to sleep.
Starting point is 00:38:52 The problem was, I soon realized that I could not roll over. I tried wiggling my toes, then my fingers, and then moving my head around without success. The only functions I could seem to perform were moving my eyes around and breathing. Not even making a sound was possible, as I attempted to whisper at first and then call for my mom. I wasn't scared, more so confused as to what was happening. After 30 seconds or so, however, I felt an uneasy sense wash over me. I was drawn to checking my surroundings, feeling like someone was in my room just outside of my vision. I stared at the foot of my bed for a few seconds, but nothing was there.
Starting point is 00:39:47 I looked at the side of the bed closets to the wall expecting a hand to reach out and grab me, but nothing. Searching the corners of the room, my eyes latched on to something in the doorway. Barely visible, a humanoid form stood in my doorway. The form's composition, I can only describe as being made of the heat waves that you see bouncing off of asphalt on a hot summer's day. Dumbfounded, I was forced to sit and stare at the form, because, well, what else could I do in my own body's prison? Seconds feel like hours of this, from standing and staring until finally the form turns and walks to my parents' bedroom. Immediately worried about what I just saw, I tried to wake myself, vigorously blinking my eyes, and, repeating wake up, wake up, wake up, wake up, in my mind until I finally had actually woken up.
Starting point is 00:40:54 After gaining my composure, I felt like it was safe enough to turn over and go back to sleep. Wrong. Just as in my dream, I found that my body was incapable of moving. I followed as I did in my dream, first attempting to wiggle my toes, then my fingers, then my head, feeling that wash of dread ooze over me when I couldn't make any noises either. I checked the spots in the room that I originally did and didn't find anything. At this point, I remembered that the form had walked into my parents' room
Starting point is 00:41:31 and realized they may be in danger when they go to bed later. Struggling to break free from my paralysis, I tried my hardest to move anything that I could and to yell. Sensation slowly returned to my body and a faint whisper is all I could speak until all at once, I was able to move and yell. Screaming and crying, not understanding what I needed to do, I flailed in my bed. My mom quickly ran into the room to calm me down as I frantically told her there was something in my room
Starting point is 00:42:08 and that I saw it move into her room. She attempted to reassure me that it was just a little bit of her. a nightmare and that nothing had happened, and she picked me up. I buried my head into her shoulder and sobbed uncontrollably. As we shuffled down the hallway, I felt the sense of dread hit me again, and was compelled to pick my head up. As I stared down the expanding hallway, from the TV lights shining down the hallway, I saw my mom's shadow.
Starting point is 00:42:41 Staring at her shadow, another shadow. detached itself from the shoulder, and it waved at me like it was taunting me. I buried my head back into her shoulder and cried myself to sleep that night. I never spoke about this to anyone until I reached 17 or 18 years old, although my family always made fun of me for how spooked I always was about the hallway, even in broad daylight. Even then, it was only to a few close friday. I recently brought it up to my family.
Starting point is 00:43:19 When speaking to my stepmom and now ex-sister-in-law about it, they listened intently, thinking that it was strange as my stepbrother and nephew always felt uncomfortable when around that hallway. Today, my dad and stepmom still live in that house, and the hallway doesn't affect me like it used to. but the memories of that night feel like they're burned into my memories forever. Hi everyone. I've always been fascinated by the paranormal and the unknown. Just last night, while recounting past family holidays, I'd been reminded by my sister of a pretty unexplained event that she had experienced.
Starting point is 00:44:16 Taking place back in 2018, me and my family took a small trip to Weymouth, a seaside town in Dorset, UK. We were staying in a very old cottage at the top of a cliff on a popular hiking trail, but it was in the pretty much middle of nowhere, about a mile from any other buildings surrounded by trees and wooded areas near a quiet beach. The cottage itself was super dated inside, and gave off a bit of an eerie vibe, but I put that down to the old decor with large wooden bolted doors, stone floors with an old piano straight from a church.
Starting point is 00:45:01 We stayed for a week and nothing really spooky had happened over this time. However, on the final night, my sister, who was 16 at the time, was sleeping downstairs in the living room by herself, and had an experience that none of us. can explain. To set the scene, the layout had me and my partner upstairs opposite to my parents' bedroom. The stairs being incredibly old and loud, so you could hear every single step. Then, my older sister and her partner were staying in a room on the other side of the
Starting point is 00:45:40 cottage nowhere near the front room. From what she described, she was sitting up Snapchatting her boyfriend all night, and then around 3 a.m., she swears that suddenly the door began to shake as if someone was trying to get in, but obviously couldn't due to it being bolted. This happened for approximately 30 seconds to a minute with the door shaking so much that the wall also began to shake. During which, she called out for our mom and dad, thinking it was either of them checking to see if she was okay and to stay. sleep. However, when she called out, no one replied. She then didn't hear anything, no footsteps, nor any sound. This is where she, for some reason, decided to go and check. She went through to the
Starting point is 00:46:36 other section of the cottage to see if it was our older sister or her partner, but they were fast asleep. And if it was, by the time she left the room, she probably would have seen them walking, back. She then checked upstairs, which again everyone was fast asleep. All she said was the rooms had become even colder than they already were, and the house was eerily silent. She went back to her room, and from what she said locked the doors again, and managed to get some sleep. The next morning came, and she mentioned it to me before saying anything to any of the family, as she knew that I would be intrigued and would take less convincing over the others. But when she decided to talk about it at breakfast just to see if anyone came down the stairs,
Starting point is 00:47:29 everyone had stayed in bed. Me, personally, and my partner are very heavy sleepers, as is my dad. And we know that we didn't get up for the toilet or anything, especially being the toilet that was on the other side of the cottage, where my older sister was. meaning we would have to walk through a dark and eerie hallway to get there, which didn't really appeal to us. When discussing, my mom, who is also a believer in the supernatural,
Starting point is 00:48:01 and has claimed many experiences, went a bit pale and looked spooked. When asked, she said that she woke up but didn't know the time as she felt the pressure at the end of her bed next to her foot. When looking up, she could see a shadow at the end of the bed sitting down. She said she looked next to her as she thought it was my dad, but he was right there, fast asleep. Thinking it was just as she was still tired, she went back to sleep at this point,
Starting point is 00:48:34 but she heard my sister open the door and walk up the stairs just as she was drifting off. Though there may be an explanation, I can't think of any, having covered most things from sleepwalking to just being a family member. My sister, who was adamant that she experienced it, having the text to her boyfriend, as it was going to prove that it wasn't a dream, as well as my mom also having experiences. Overall, to me, it was pretty spooky.
Starting point is 00:49:08 Something else that me and my partner also found pretty odd, when packing to leave, as we were doing, doing the last check before leaving, in the back rooms where my older sister and her partner were staying, there were a lot of crosses hanging up, as well as one in the bathroom that we never noticed, which was hanging upside down. Back in my twenties, I found a cheap place to live by browsing Craigslist. Yes, I know it was probably a stupid idea boarding with complete strangers, but back at the time, Craigslist wasn't as sketchy, and there were no weird vibes coming off the other people that lived there, so I didn't see any problems with it.
Starting point is 00:50:01 I found a place owned by an older couple. They were sweet and explained that it was actually an old duplex that they turned into a house. They said they weren't going to be getting the money back they put into it if they sold it, so they decided to rent it out, hoping to help others, as well as, turn a profit. On the day of moving, they were there to greet me, go over some more guidelines, and give me the key to my room. We all had keys to the actual house, and then our rooms locked so we could still have privacy, which I appreciated. They also introduced me to my new roommates. And there were two other girls, Aaron and Abigail.
Starting point is 00:50:46 Abigail, or Abby, as she told us to use, was actually our landlord. Lord's daughter. They were both nice girls and seemed like people that I would hang out with, so it seemed like it would work out. There was a fourth room that wasn't filled yet, but they were planning on having someone move in soon. It turned out to be a good time, though. We all got along fine. He seemed to share chores without even really asking or planning it out, which was awesome, too. Even when you would think the daughter would be spoiled or run a muck, she wasn't. She was actually quite normal and respectful.
Starting point is 00:51:27 Maybe normal wasn't the right word, though. For the longest time, she was fine. It was probably close to a year that things got weird. By this time, it was us three and another girl that moved in named Gabriela. Abby was going on some kind of mission trip. This is based on how she explained it. For about a month and another. country that I now no longer remember.
Starting point is 00:51:55 She had two birds, turtle doves, and she asked me to take care of them while she was gone. She left the key to her room with me and told me some of the basic things, and I agreed to do it. When she came back from her trip, though, she seemed different. Her whole demeanor had changed. We would ask her how her trip was, and she explained some of the things that she did. and learned, but then she would also just go on about some religious history lesson that no one asked for. I get it, and I have no problem with people that are religious, but when we're sitting watching a movie and she just speaks up and starts going on about
Starting point is 00:52:38 how this guy tried to warn people in the village of the plague but they didn't listen, and that's why we need to pay more attention, and then would just go back to watching TV. It was really weird, and we all saw it too when we were around. When Aaron and I were home by ourselves, we brought it up and agreed that she was weird, but that we would let it go until it started interfering with one of us. Again, the landlords, her parents, seemed to be very nice people. But we didn't know how they would take us complaining about their daughter,
Starting point is 00:53:17 so we just kept tallies on things that she did in case it got warm. worse. Over time, she seemed to become more reclusive. She wouldn't eat anything that we made saying our bodies are sacred, and that we needed to open our eyes to what we put into it. In fact, I don't think we ever saw her eat any more after that. She rarely left the house, but when she did, it was very short, and she always had sunglasses on and some kind of blanket at her scarf covering her head. But, for the most part, she confined herself to her room. We would knock on her door to invite her to watch or play a game with us or go somewhere,
Starting point is 00:54:01 but she would never open the door and the offers were always declined. Eventually, it just became a point that we would knock on the door to make sure that she was alive. Her parents would stop by at the beginning of the month to collect rent, and they would even ask us how she was doing. That was a surprise to me because I figured at least they would have had contact with her, but apparently not. So, we told them what we had been experiencing, and they said that they were seeing the same, except she wasn't even answering their calls anymore. They came in and tried knocking on Abby's door,
Starting point is 00:54:42 and I think that she was expecting one of us and answered as she normally did. until her mother started talking, and her demeanor changed. Then she started calling them by their names. She said something like, I no longer need your help, Bonnie. Please let me go. They looked upset and confused, but they left, saying to contact them if anything else happens.
Starting point is 00:55:10 They thought it had something to do with the trip that she went on, but they weren't certain. They told us about. some pamphlets that she got from a customer at her work, and that she decided to go to it, on their dime. She said that they would pay them back, of course, but never did, and then she was acting like this. It didn't take long for it to escalate, though.
Starting point is 00:55:35 After a while, we could hear music coming from her room that consisted of very low drumbeats and humming, all while she was singing nonsense above it. We never could make out the words, but it was like someone was trying to sing a song that they didn't know the words to. Then we could smell the incense. Then we could smell something worse than the incense. It was seeming like the incense were trying to cover up the smell of whatever else was in there. It smelled like rotting foods, which would make sense since she never came out.
Starting point is 00:56:12 If she had plates and bowls or even trash in there, it was festering. it was going to start smelling, especially since we were hitting the summer months. We actually had to buy some cheap plates because she seemed to come out at night when we were gone, or asleep, and then she would take them and never bring them back. The smell, though, it only got worse. You could smell it if you were at the door, but it started wafting out in the hall. Gabriela seemed to have taken all she could and then started beating on her door, telling her that she needed to do her part because she was making the place stink.
Starting point is 00:56:53 But when she finally responded, she spouted something about needing to repent first, and then she could proceed with her human chores. So here's where it all came crashing down. One night, while I was sleeping, I could hear my name being whispered. I normally didn't lock my door while I was sleeping because I trusted the other girls, but I was still surprised when I opened my eyes to actually see someone in my room, standing by my door. It startled me, and I went to turn on my side lamp when she stopped me saying not to. I knew at that point that it was Abby.
Starting point is 00:57:35 She said that she had to go somewhere important, and I was the only one that she trusted. I still have no idea why. She told me not to let anyone in her room, not even. in Bonnie or Roger, which were her parents. I agreed and asked her when she would be back and she said that she didn't know. Then she left my room, said some weird, spiritual sounding quotes, and left. I went back to sleep, though, and figured that I would handle it if it was all real in the morning. Sure enough, the next morning I got up and noticed that her keys and her little car were gone.
Starting point is 00:58:17 I tried calling her cell phone, and it went straight to voicemail. But really, I don't even know if it had been like that for a while. It looked like Aaron had left already, and Gabriella was taking a shower, so I just made breakfast and everything kept circling in my head. I thought I should at least tell her parents, right, so that they knew she wasn't home? But then I remembered her birds. Surely they were going to need to be fed, and I decided that I was. I would use that as an excuse for going into her room.
Starting point is 00:58:51 So, I made my way to her room. The smell had weakened again, so you could only smell it at her door, thankfully. I turned to the knob, and surprisingly it wasn't locked. But I wish that I had not opened it now. It was horrible. The smell hit me first. I was surprised how much that door was holding back. It smelled just like decay.
Starting point is 00:59:19 The windows were covered with her blankets and sheets. She had a little twin or full-sized bed, and she had it leaning against the wall. The mattress seemed to be cut down the center, and things were being stored in it. I didn't get close enough to see what exactly. The floor was scribbled on with all kinds of incoherent writing and drawings, and then there was her dresser, placed against the left wall. The top of it just had heads, like her bird's heads, and other small animal heads. Some of them were just skulls and some still had skin attached to them, all with their eyes sewn shut.
Starting point is 01:00:04 I think at that point I found what the smell was coming from, and I ran out of the room, leaving the door open. I screamed for Gabriella, and she came into the kitchen, and I explained to her, what had happened. She immediately went back and looked. She also shouted some things out, and we agreed to call Bonnie first. We explained what we had seen, and they were over there pretty quick. They seemed just as horrified as us. I'm not sure what all happened.
Starting point is 01:00:36 They probably wanted to keep it somewhat private, but some people showed up, and they all took pictures of the room, and I think it was a friend of Roger and himself that went into the room to completely clean it out. Gabriela had already left not wanting to deal with it, and they asked me to leave for a bit to finish, and I agreed. When I returned, Roger and Bonnie were still there, and as I walked back to my room, her door was open,
Starting point is 01:01:06 and I noticed that her room was almost completely empty. They then told me that when she got home, they were going to move her back in with them until she was, quote, better. She didn't come home that night, though, and it was actually a few days before she did. Apparently, she didn't like the idea of her room being emptied, and she let out a blood-curdling scream, waking all of us up.
Starting point is 01:01:34 I ran out of my room, which was across from hers, and she immediately turned around and started screaming about how she trusted me, and that I would pay with my soul. Gabriella and Abby were now in the hall telling her that she was disgusting and creepy, and I was just trying to apologize and tell her that she needed help. But one of the last things that she said to me was that, again, I would pay with my soul and that she would curse me until I died, and then kind of mumbled something under her breath,
Starting point is 01:02:08 before running down the hall and out the door. None of us were willing to go back to sleep, so we left a message with the owner, and just sat around waiting to see if she would come back. Weeks turned to months, and she never came back. Her parents never even saw or heard from her. Every few weeks, I would receive a package that had to be delivered since there was no postage, but it was addressed to me.
Starting point is 01:02:34 Each time, it had some creepy stuff in it. The head of an animal, similar to what was in her room, there were weird, cryptic, if not threatening messages and images. And each time, I would just walk it out to the dumpster. Gabriela moved out, not feeling safe, and Aaron moved after the end of her lease that she agreed on. I was fine with staying there, but once the packages started coming, I started getting the sense that I was being watched.
Starting point is 01:03:07 Everywhere. While I was there, when I was at the store, driving to work, just all the time. I felt like I was becoming paranoid with this overwhelming sense of dread, or like someone was going to kill me. So I eventually moved out too. I kept in touch with Aaron and Gabriella, though, and they never mentioned anything, so I guess I was just the lucky winner.
Starting point is 01:03:36 Like I mentioned, this was several years ago. And I checked the news, and Facebook, Twitter, all of that, and I don't think that she's ever returned. It's really amazing, not in a good way, and terrifying as to what may have happened to her, but I guess she just doesn't want to be found. However, I would like it if this feeling of being watched
Starting point is 01:04:03 would just go away. I have a story to share that I've had returned to me in memory for multiple stories that I've heard on your YouTube channel. For my story, too, it happened many years ago in my life, and back when I was 11 years old. I was visiting with a school-time friend that I knew by the name of Lucy, and she invited me to go with her to her Aunt Claudia's place in France for a while, and during the upcoming winter break we had scheduled from school at the time. I told her I would love to, especially since my own family members were to be busy with work and other activities then. Three weeks later, after the conversation took place, about our winter break plans, I was getting ready to go out with Lucy and her family. After I got finished, we all headed out to their house in France, by the way of taxi, and then a boat ride from a fisherman they knew up north who were from...
Starting point is 01:05:19 France. It took several hours to arrive in France, but we arrived and then took a rental car to their place. Once we got to the house, I noticed it was a large farmhouse type of place in that there were several homes on the property, including some that were on the south side of it and were tucked in behind a fence and a small forest. I asked Lucy about what I was seeing, and she said that all the property, including the houses, were built up by her great-grandfather and other male family members throughout the years, except for the property located in the forest area. That one, she said, belonged to the neighbors that her family members knew, and it was locked up and hidden away like it was to prevent their large dogs from getting loose.
Starting point is 01:06:13 After hearing this, I said we should go inside and to finish getting unpacked. She agreed, so we did. Then, two weeks later on, after we arrived and settled, her aunt came home from work and helped us get ready for dinner. We had dinner while watching movies and then headed upstairs to get ready for bed. As we were making our way past the second floor window that looked out to all the problems, property, including the neighbor's area. I spotted a weird shadow figure darting in and out of the trees near the house that
Starting point is 01:06:51 belonged to the neighbors. I told Lucy this, and she went up to the window to look out to see if she could find what I saw. She said that she could, and didn't recognize it as anything she knew, and told me that it looked to her like a tall bear. She also asked me to join her at the window, get a look at this bear-like shadow. I agreed, and proceeded to walk over to join her. We both watched the shadow figure move around the house of the neighbors continuously,
Starting point is 01:07:26 until it disappeared from view. We both thought it was a weird occurrence and said that we would talk to her aunt about it in the morning after breakfast time. We then went to our given bedrooms, brushed our teeth, and went to bed. The next day we talked, with her aunt about the sighting from the night before. The aunt said that she thought it was a weird one too, and didn't know of anything that might have caused it,
Starting point is 01:07:53 except for one thing that she thought was a far stretch, and was all she knew from stories passed down through many generations of family members, and the locals who told it to the family people. The old story, she said, took place in 1886, and it happened to a gypsy-style couple of family. friends of theirs that they knew through a circus they owned together and that they had on the property.
Starting point is 01:08:21 Before the time that the property land areas were bought by her grandfather and other local people in 1943. As the tale further states, she said, the circus people had a pet bear that they owned and took care of. The bear, too, as was told by the circus folks, and others through the years went missing one day in the forest and never returned. The circus people went looking for it, and they found that it had gotten trapped in an ice cave and had sadly passed away while trying to escape the cave.
Starting point is 01:08:57 They went on to bury it, and then packed up their belongings and moved to their original home back in Russia. The aunt further stated that some people believe the mysterious bear-like shadow is the circus bear looking for its former owners. even while being in the afterlife. Then, after this event took place, Lucy and her aunt Claudia and other family members finished our vacation, and then returned to our daily life,
Starting point is 01:09:27 including schoolwork and other routine things. Lucy, then in the sixth grade, told me that she was to move back to France to go to school for junior high and high school, and that she hopes I have a good rest of life myself, and to look her up if I ever end up in France again. So I'm going to start by saying that we live in a pretty rural area of Virginia when this took place. And it was about a year ago. It shook me to my core.
Starting point is 01:10:09 Me and my family were talking in the kitchen when my brother gets a call from a friend and says that he has to leave. I'll call this friend James. It's not his real name. Anyways, my brother was going to purchase some green from him for my sister, so he got in his car and they left. Maybe about 30 minutes or so later, my sister looks out the window in our kitchen and tells us that someone is on the deck smoking. My mother looks and says the same thing. I looked and it looked like James was on the deck. My father, who's pretty annoyed at this time,
Starting point is 01:10:51 tells me to call my brother and tell his friend to get the hell off the deck. The phone call goes like this. Me. Bro, Papa's pissed. Get your friend off the deck or he's going to flip out and hurt him. My brother, we aren't at the house. We're almost out of the neighborhood. No one should be there.
Starting point is 01:11:13 My heart sinks to my ass. And I keep telling him, Bro, Poppy's getting more mad, he's going to hurt him. Stop messing around. He again says he's not there, and to call the cops. Now, my dad is pissed because I told him his friend wasn't out there. Meanwhile, my sister and mom are both staring out the window and can see him pacing back and forth. My dad is already high heart rate because he doesn't like being messed with,
Starting point is 01:11:44 so he goes to the garage to get a bat and I call the police begging him not to go outside. I've heard too many instances where people try to fight people only to be shot or something, and I didn't want him to get hurt. I'm on the phone with police having a full-blown panic attack. My mom and sister are both yelling with my dad. When my dad opens the door and goes flying out with the bat in his hand, and there's nothing. Nobody's out there.
Starting point is 01:12:17 We have motion sensor lights and a camera on the deck that also records once it detected motion. And nothing was there. My brother came home a few minutes later and was genuinely confused. I remember when we realized nothing was there. I was still on the phone with the police and told the dispatch lady that nothing was there. I felt so dumb for overreacting, but we all... genuinely saw something. Anyway, they still sent an officer to check the area,
Starting point is 01:12:51 and there wasn't any sign of someone being there. We all felt pretty stupid. This kid was platinum blonde, and all of us have brown hair, so it couldn't have been our reflection. We still don't have a rational explanation, and just assume that we all imagined someone there. It still freaks me out to this day thinking about it.
Starting point is 01:13:14 This story didn't happen last night, but a dream I had reminded me of a pair of sleep paralysis-filled nights a few years ago back when I was around 23. At the time, I had my own apartment and had no sort of weird or eerie experiences there. One random night, however, I fell asleep and soon after woke up to my body feeling like a heavy weight. was adhering me to my bed. Because of my first sleep paralysis encounter when I was five, I learned to never fall asleep with the bedroom door open. Although, during this instance, when I looked around the room, I could see that the door was cracked open.
Starting point is 01:14:15 I know for certain that I had closed it. As I stared at the door, my eyes started to play tricks on me. From the door, my room looked to be slowly rotting, like the paint and pieces of the wall were slowly curling away and falling off. Eventually it began to look like flesh in my very dimly lit room. Accompanying the rot was this very low humming, almost chant-like, very quiet. I almost didn't hear it, but as my room's walls morphed,
Starting point is 01:14:52 and unfurled, I began to hear more voices making this low humming sound in unison. Once the transformation of my room finished, my eyes darted towards my door as I heard it creak open slightly. This scared me enough to make me forcefully close my eyes, and when I opened them back up, everything looked back to normal again, and I was able to safely drift back to sleep. I thought that was a freaky dream and shared it with my friends the next day, relieved that it was over. Exactly one week later, however, it began again. When I awoke this time, there was a girl in a white dress sitting on the right side of the bed with her back to me.
Starting point is 01:15:41 Think of the ring, except her hair and clothes were more well taken care of. Disturbed enough from the girl, I was distracted from my door slowly opening again. But in this case, it actually was opening fully. Noticing this movement, my eyes quickly moved to watch what monstrosity may spill into the room. The same happened as what had happened in the weeks before, the walls rotting away in the new choir-sounding harmonization of hum. In the doorway, I could make out a humanoid figure that looked exactly like the figure I had seen back when I was five. It slowly shifted towards my bed, with the humming growing louder following it,
Starting point is 01:16:34 shivering in my sheets, still unable to scream, squeal, squeak, or speak, I was forced to watch this near-invisible entity approach me. The form, or what I could make out of it, stood over me, and I observed its hand to approach its face, which resulted in the humming immediately seizing, and turning into a group of shh. I tried closing and opening my eyes again, which resulted in everything going back to normal just as the week prior. I didn't get much sleep for the next few nights following that. I have a story from when I went to college back in the mid-90s. What happened didn't actually happen to me,
Starting point is 01:17:39 but to the person that was my roommate at the dorm. And it's the reason that she actually moved on to campus and started living in the dorms. Obviously, I'm not giving out the name of the school or my city. I'll just say that we live in the southwestern section of the U.S., and leave it there. I lived on campus for the most of my time in classes, but the school had it set up to where you didn't have to live on campus at all,
Starting point is 01:18:09 and a lot of people took advantage of that, living with family, each other, etc. My friend, and eventually roommate, and the person this story is about, was a short gal named Stacey. Stacey's one of those girls that just never really grew taller than she was in middle school and she had a very small frame at the time So she was often taken for being weak or thought to be a teenager pretending to be an adult
Starting point is 01:18:43 That said when I got to know Stacey I learned that she was a bit of a firecracker and she had taken a number of self-defense courses So she knows how to properly defend herself if she ever needs to. After a while of living with me at the dorm, she told me about her previous roommate, and what happened to get her to move on to campus. Whenever she was starting her first semester,
Starting point is 01:19:11 she didn't want to live on campus because of the additional costs to the tuition. So she went pretty heavy into the wanted ads. This was the mid-90s, like 96, if I remember correctly, so the internet wasn't really an option. She said that she met with a handful of people in the weeks leading up to her first week, and she was getting worried because none of the places that she looked at seemed to be worth paying for. She said that she was then complaining about it to her mother over dinner,
Starting point is 01:19:45 and her mom made a comment about having a co-worker who had a son that went to the same school. She mentioned that she was pretty sure he had his own family, place, and that the co-worker was just funding it for him, and she said that she would talk to her to get more information about him so they could see if it was an option. She was a bit desperate, so even though she had never met the guy, she was willing to at least consider it as a possibility. She ended up meeting with the son, who we're going to call AJ, and he seemed like he was an okay guy.
Starting point is 01:20:22 Plus, he lived in a two-bedroom unit, and he didn't have a use for the second bedroom beyond storing his extra stuff. They had pretty much agreed that she would take the spare room as long as she furnished it, and his parents would just keep paying the rent as long as she pitched in for food. Basically, she had gotten in on a pretty sweet deal that seemed like it was going to work great. She said that the whole thing was fine at first, and that the guy would basically just keep to himself with little interaction. She was working part-time, and was attending classes full-time, so they didn't really interact much. For the first month, nothing really happened.
Starting point is 01:21:09 AJ was friendly when they saw each other, but about a month in, he seemed like he was trying to be a bit more forward with the conversations. It wasn't too creepy, but he was very intent on getting to know her better, asking if she had a boyfriend, asking her about what she was studying, what she wanted to do with her life, etc. She thought that he was just trying to get to know her better and trying to be friends, which wasn't a huge deal. But he kept asking things which, to her, was feeling a bit in fact. She attempted to set some boundaries with him, basically saying that she appreciated him trying to get to know her, but that she did kind of prefer that he not pry so much into her personal life. Having known Stacy as long as I have now, I can say that she can be a bit direct at times.
Starting point is 01:22:11 She's very to the point with how and what she says, but not necessarily rude, just very straightforward. forward in her presentation. She said that AJ seemed to understand what she was saying, and it was a respectful conversation, but that it only got worse from there. For a few days, AJ seemed to be a bit upset with her, but then he went back to just being himself, including going back to asking the personal questions. At this point, Stacey started to just give short or incorrect answers. because it was obvious he wasn't going to quit.
Starting point is 01:22:52 It was annoying, but she said it wasn't enough for her to give up her living arrangement. That is, until about a week or so later. During one of the days where Stacey was off work and didn't have class, AJ was out of the apartment doing something else during the day. Stacey had decided to do some of the cleaning around the apartment and started putting stuff away. She grabbed his backpack and went to put it in his room so it was out of the way and off the floor. She opened his door, and she went to put it on his bed,
Starting point is 01:23:28 and when she glanced over and noticed there was a pair of underwear sitting on his nightstand. She said that, at first, she thought that it may have been his girlfriends or something. Until, after a few moments, it clicked and she realized that it was actually a pair of her underwear. Obviously, she was a bit grossed out about this situation. It wasn't in a place where it could have accidentally come in with the laundry or something like that. It was on the nightstand next to his bed. At this point, she was pretty fed up with everything. Him being nosy about stuff, being inappropriate,
Starting point is 01:24:11 and now this, it was enough to get her to decide to finally find a new place to live. It didn't quite end there, though. When AJ got home, Stacey said that she confronted him about the underwear that she found in his room, and the entire thing unfurled into something insane. She said that he told her he took it, because he needed to know what size she was, and that he had more of her clothing in his room for that exact reason.
Starting point is 01:24:42 He said that he was going to give them back here soon, but that he had a surprise for her, which was the reason he needed to know her sizes. He walked back into his room, and when he came back out, he was holding what looked like a wedding dress. And then he got on his knees and asked Stacey if she would, in his words, honor him by becoming the woman he would spend the rest of his life with.
Starting point is 01:25:12 Obviously, she said no, and immediately started looking into getting a new place to live. She said that she no longer felt comfortable being anywhere near him, and that for a couple of weeks that she lived there after that, she would sleep with her door blocked by her end table just in case. Apparently, after this event, he actually stopped speaking to her altogether and was pretty much never home. She packed her stuff up and got a hold of the campus to move in,
Starting point is 01:25:44 to the dorms and then became my roommate. She was shocked that he was that level of obsessed with her, to the point that he went and bought a dress for her after stealing her clothes. And while some people may hear this and think, well, that's not that creepy, in my opinion, I completely agree with Stacey. This was creepy as hell. If he was just into her and took it slow, it would be one thing.
Starting point is 01:26:14 and he would have then found out that Stacey wasn't exactly straight. Instead, he went the route of being weird and obsessive, taking her clothes to get her size, and then spending money on a custom wedding dress to propose to someone that he'd only known for about two months. Obviously, not the best way to go about it. Stacey got out of there as quickly as she could, and she never spoke to him again after that.
Starting point is 01:26:56 Starting off, I normally worked armed security and deal with crazy things on regular duty. But, occasionally, senior officers get scheduled for extra duty shifts at a wedding-slash-reception hall in Black Forest, Colorado. And these shifts are mind-numbing. Uninformed yet unarmed,
Starting point is 01:27:21 except for our search gloves, essentially bouncers with badges, as one co-worker calls it. Primarily, we're there for the business's liquor license, making sure no drinks are going in or out the door. Recently, I was sent there last minute to cover another officer who had called in. Upon arrival, I noticed it was a large Hispanic wedding party, much larger than, than most events I've worked at this place. I checked in at the bar and then returned to the front door to post up. After the wedding ceremony wraps up and guests were roaming about, waiting for the reception to start,
Starting point is 01:28:07 I start getting asked the standard questions at these types of shifts. After 30 or so minutes, the guests fill the reception hall and the wedding party prepares to enter for the reception. with the bride and groom standing closest to me. Usually when the wedding parties are about to make their grand entrances into the receptions, most people don't leave their tables, so I began listening to videos. Pop a scare, if you're wondering. Right as the video that I'm listening to starts the second tale,
Starting point is 01:28:43 and the best man and maid of honor are being introduced, the bride screams, grandmother. I look up sharply to see an older-looking woman's backside, shuffle behind the doors to the chapel. At first, I assumed maybe this was an older woman with a mental disorder, like Alzheimer's or dementia, until the guests start flooding into the main front hallway. The bride runs over and asks, Did you see my grandmother?
Starting point is 01:29:15 sharply high replied the lady that walked into the chapel the bride began to break down crying as her family swarmed back into the chapel as the reception was put on hold as the bride recovered and fixed her makeup the wedding planner and i were standing at the door talking the groom came up and asked again if i saw the woman still not putting two and two together i said yes and i said yes and asked why it was such a big deal. The groom started to tell the wedding planner and I that the bride was the youngest granddaughter, and her and her grandmother were very close. The grandmother always exclaimed to the bride that she couldn't leave the earth peacefully until her Rosa del Desiarto, Desert Rose,
Starting point is 01:30:07 married a good man. Well, the night the couple got engaged, the grandmother passed away. The day of the wedding, the bride was emotionally overwhelmed to start, and she was presented with a locket with her grandmother's ashes. The bridesmaids announced that they were ready to resume the reception, and as they announced the bride and groom for the first time during their entrance, the wedding planner leaned over and whispered,
Starting point is 01:30:37 Guess Grandma made the wedding regardless. A few years ago, a couple of old military buddies of mine, and I decided that we wanted to go take a road trip around some seemingly random places here in the good old US of A. The three of us knew each other way back in grade school, and we all grew up together, which eventually led to us all joining the army. Two of us got deployed, myself and James, but Ricky ended up with an honorable discharge because of a medical issue.
Starting point is 01:31:19 He was actually diagnosed with a heart condition that caused problems with the must, and they determined that he wouldn't have been able to be sent overseas. Not really relevant, but it helps to show that we all knew each other really well, and we all trusted each other. We had all been home for a few years, and we were pretty much told that we were back permanently, barring any craziness when we would be called back. Because we were finally back home and not likely to be called out,
Starting point is 01:31:50 we wanted to take a road trip out to some of the more open parts of the country, like the national parks down in Utah. Our plan was to head east through Nevada, and then into Utah to go see the canyons out there, and we planned to head to Bryce and Zion National Parks. I don't remember why we wanted to go these routes, but the three of us agreed that we weren't getting any younger, and now was the time to go see the sites that this part of the country
Starting point is 01:32:20 had to offer. Because it was early spring, and it wasn't getting too terribly hot yet, we decided that we would make it a point to camp out either in the open, or just spend the night sleeping in the car when necessary. Ricky had a decent-sized van that had more than enough space for all of us to push the seats back and sleep, while one slept in the back seat. We packed up all of our things, made sure we had enough cash. to get gas and any supplies,
Starting point is 01:32:52 and the three of us headed out onto the road with nothing more than a basic sense of, let's drive east until we get too tired to drive any more, and then we'll enjoy the great outdoors. This plan worked for most of the first day. We took turns driving for a few hours, trying to spread it out amongst the three of us as much as we could, but also making sure that we weren't too tired.
Starting point is 01:33:18 We planned on taking I-80 most of the way, but also decided that we would take a small detour in Utah to head down 196 toward the Dugway military base. None of us had ever been there, but I wanted to see the area for really no reason. Plus, from there, we could just head south for a few hours to hit the areas for Bryce and Zion National Parks. Now, I'm not stupid. I know that even with a military background, you don't just drive to a military base, and you sure as hell don't camp anywhere near the ground that isn't a designated camping area. So, after we got around that area, we made a trip out to a small campground about 30 or so minutes to the northwest, and we made our plans to stay there for the night.
Starting point is 01:34:09 The night that we got there, it was absolutely beautiful. We opted to pull the tents out and spend the full evening outside under the stars. We got the camp set up right next to where we parked the van, and we had a really small fire going as it was getting a bit chilly. We spent the entire night chatting about random things that we wanted to do now that we were home, and just having a nice evening as three friends out in the middle of nowhere. A couple of hours later, right before we were about to call it a night, night, we were all just sitting there and heard what sounded like a weird screaming.
Starting point is 01:34:49 We all kind of stopped and looked around the area to see if we could see anything, but I think we all quickly went to the same conclusion, coyotes. We'd all heard them before, and the sound was pretty close to what we knew to be coyotes, so we moved on from there and decided that it wasn't a huge deal. We just needed to keep an eye out for them if they got closer. We all decided to call it a night and had to sleep, thinking that we could just get through the creepy sounds that they were making if we passed out. We all started getting in our tents,
Starting point is 01:35:24 and that was when it went from probably coyotes to what the absolute hell is out there. The screaming changed in pitch from that high screech to a much lower tone, and then it started to change even more into what sounded. like legitimate laughter. We tried to justify it as just being an animal, but it almost sounded like this thing was a person, laughing in an almost cartoonishly evil way, if that makes any sense.
Starting point is 01:35:59 It would laugh, slowly change into that high-pitched screeching, and then shift back to the lower-pitched laughter. We decided that it wasn't worth sleeping outside, and that we would just pack our stuff and head to a nearby hotel or parking lot to spend the rest of the night. We shoved our tents and everything else back into the van and record time, and within ten minutes we're back on the road. We got back in the car, Ricky started the van up and hit the headlights, and we could see something.
Starting point is 01:36:35 It was standing out behind a large rock, probably 40 or so feet away. I couldn't really make out a shape of what this thing was, but it was bipedal, and it was watching us. The other guys said that it looked kind of human, but something about it was off. Like, it was a human mixed with something else. I remember it had a person-like shape, but the face that I saw was not that of a person.
Starting point is 01:37:04 It was more of a creature. after a few seconds of us just staring at this thing and it staring back at us Ricky hit the high beams and it reacted to them by pulling itself behind the rock we decided that we did not want to know nor did we need to know what the hell this thing was we gunned it back onto the road and decided to just get back to heading south and stop at the first sign of civilization the three of us did not say a word about the thing the entire time we were on the road that night. I think we were all trying to come up with a logical explanation for what it was.
Starting point is 01:37:45 We didn't have any other encounters or anything like that, and we pressed on with the road trip as normal afterwards. We've only spoken about this thing once or twice since, and I think we all want to say that this thing was maybe an escaped military experiment, because we were so close to the base. But we also don't want to think about that possibility. I have no idea if it was just some freak animal out there, or if it was a cryptid of some sort.
Starting point is 01:38:17 But I know that I will never forget about it. Okay, so I'm a little freaked out right now, but I'm almost certain that I saw a spirit or ghost last night. Me and my best friend, we're both 21, always go to a house in the countryside, in the middle of nowhere. There's literally nothing for miles. It's our drinking house. The house has been in her family for generations upon generations.
Starting point is 01:39:01 Many of her great-grandparents, etc., lived and died in that house. Now, it's not got anyone living there. It's still standing, still has water, electricity. We have huge parties there and occasionally go there, just the two of us, and have our own mini parties. There's been multiple weird things that have happened in that house over the course of our parties. One time, I drank too much and passed out at the party. When I woke up in one of the bedrooms at 3 a.m., the party was still going on. I could not find my shoes anywhere.
Starting point is 01:39:46 After 30 minutes of drunk searching, I found them up on top of a bookshelf in the corner of the room. No one said that they put them there, and I sure as hell didn't, as I can't even reach that high. The second thing happened last night. It was just me and my friend, casually drinking there. We had some nice music going, on the speaker, played some beer pong. it was a fun night.
Starting point is 01:40:15 I must have drank too much because I don't remember any of the following. My friend told me this morning that, last night, I claimed to have seen a man follow her up the stairs behind her, and that I wondered what they did together upstairs, and then I questioned her when she came downstairs again. Apparently, I was very insistent on having seen this man follow her. And she got scared of what I was saying,
Starting point is 01:40:46 so she hid in her bedroom for the rest of the night. And the party was over. I know myself, and I know that if I was blacked out at the time, I wouldn't be saying it as a prank, or to try and scare her, because it's just not how I am when I'm drunk. And now, even thinking about it,
Starting point is 01:41:12 it, it's like I'm getting flashbacks and I'm recalling the part where I saw the man follow her up the stairs. I don't know. I think I'm just freaked out a lot about it, because we always just get weird vibes in that house. We've never seen anything until last night, and apparently it was only me, but it's just a weird sense that someone is watching you constantly. Is it normal to have ghosts? sightings when you're drunk, does it make you more likely to see something?
Starting point is 01:41:57 As promised, a few of my true stories. So, when I had just learned to talk, under three years old, I was living with my mom and my grandparents. I used to play in the back living room on the floor, and would constantly ask my grandparents who the people were under the floor. My granddad was sensitive and said that I took after him, so one day they had to temporarily move out of the house whilst repairs were being carried out. My granddad paid the workmen to dig six foot down into the back room. Puzzled, they looked at him but started digging.
Starting point is 01:42:41 They only got a couple of feet down, though, and gave in. So, later on, my dad is searching the area. and apparently the entire area the houses were built on was, at one time, a huge cemetery. And before they built the houses, they were supposed to have exhumed the bodies and put them all together in a giant pit to this day that has a monument over it. What are the chances they actually exhumed them all? Around the same time, I would apparently come out with all kinds. like when I'm grown, I'm going to go to university,
Starting point is 01:43:21 and I said I would live with my granddad again, which was weird because I was living with him. Well, I did grow, obviously, but I left school with no qualifications to speak of, and I got a job looking after people in a care home, which led me into doing a few NVQ qualifications, and later they helped me get into university to do my nurse training. As for moving back in with my granddad, that happened too.
Starting point is 01:43:53 My mom married a horrible man when I was five or six and moved me out of my grandparents. My nana died when I was around seven or eight, and later on I did go back to live with my granddad. My granddad, by this point, was 70, but healthy enough that he had a caravan and would go stay at the van during the summer and walked quite a lot. One time, I had a very vivid dream. My granddad died in it. I woke up crying and went downstairs. Instantly my granddad knew something was wrong.
Starting point is 01:44:32 I told him I just had a bad dream, and he said you dreamed that I died, didn't you? I said no, not wanting to upset him, and I made up something else. Two weeks later, and there was a very sudden heart attack, and my granddad died. I then dreamed of this beautiful house. It had red carpet and was everything I ever dreamed my home would be.
Starting point is 01:44:59 So, after starting to work in that care home, I happened to be walking past an estate agent one day and was looking in the window. Something was telling me to go in and just inquire if I could have a mortgage. So following my intuition, I did. I was amazed that they said I could have one as I was on minimum wage. I told them about having lived with my granddad, etc., and they seemed to like me. I told them the area that I wanted to live in, and they said they would be in touch. I looked at a few houses in that area, but this day I get a phone call telling me they have a house to just come on the market.
Starting point is 01:45:44 It's not in the area I wanted, but if interested, they would arrange a viewing for the next day. I was awful at getting up early. I had an old chiming clock on my wall, which had not chimed since I bought it. The morning I had to get up to view that house, the clock chimed and chimed. When I went to see the house, I realized the cemetery my Nana and Granddad were buried in was a stone's throw away. And as soon as I walked into that house, I knew it was mine. It was the exact same house from my dream. I do believe my granddad had helped me in more ways than one for me to get that home.
Starting point is 01:46:28 I have lots and lots more true stories. I'll send them when I'm in the mood to type them up.
