All of the food we eat and much of the clothing we wear comes from plants and animals that are raised on farms.
Farms are different in type, in size, and even in name.
Welcome to Barn Talk. What happens at the barn stays in the barn, but not today.
We're going to let it all out for you guys.
Today is going to be a deep episode.
We're not going to, I'm not going to go into everything that I say in the intro today.
I think we're just going to get right into a market update and then right into what we want to talk about.
Somber Day today
Yesterday
The time of it were recording this podcast yesterday
Charlie Kirk was assassinated
Very very tragic
event that took place in Utah
I think a lot of people
Got the wind knocked out of their sales yesterday
And it's just a really
Really dark place
that I think we find ourselves in America
and I think the right thing to do
to kick this podcast off is just
you know thoughts and prayers
to Charlie's family
and everybody that he knew
friends, family,
everybody that was at that event,
anybody that knew him.
I mean,
the guy was really doing good out there,
putting, challenging people,
the status quo.
And yeah, just thoughts and prayers
for him
for his family and his friends and everybody that was at that event in Utah.
And I think Charlie's in heaven, and that's where he knew he was going to go.
So that's something that we can hang our hat on.
But just really somber day today and yesterday.
So before we get into the nitty gritty, though, I think we've got to know what the markets are doing
because it wouldn't be barn talk without the markets.
Yeah, so the day after, today's September 11th,
and I got a few texts from friends of mine today.
And, you know, you kind of feel like, what, 24 years ago,
is that right, that September 11th happened?
And I kind of feel like, I don't know,
I don't feel like we've learned much.
We went from worrying about, you know, outside people killing our own
or killing citizens of the United States
and attacking us from the outside.
Now we're killing our own, which I don't think is, I don't know.
I don't know if we've learned anything or not.
But anyway, before we get into all that, market update,
hot off the press from Katz,
grains in Washington, Iowa, and not much going on, as you can imagine, the markets are,
grain markets are open, but not much happening. September corn 417, March corn 435, locally,
the basis locally is not very good. 367 at the local feeders, 390 in Cedar Rapids,
and a friend of the show, his name is Annie Mertons,
and he lives out in Western New York,
he sent me the link to the Western New York Energy ethanol plant.
And they have a positive 45-cent basis.
So their September cord mid is 463.
So I don't know what the trucking is from southeast Iowa,
but it probably doesn't pencil.
But that's a hell of a bid.
beans for September 1025, December beans 1045, 1075, 1073 in Cedar Rapids and 1013, sorry,
973 in Cedar Rapids and 1013 in Quincy, Illinois.
Bean meal for September 286 a ton, wheat for September, 498, October hogs 9680, 8080, October
Cattle, 231.
and feeder cattle for September, $353,00 weight.
I threw deer in there, 471.
They're kind of hitting the skids a little bit with all the problems they got.
Crude oil, 6284, and OPEC voted.
They're going to keep pumping.
They're going to pump more oil.
And that's probably something for another episode because I'm pretty sure.
The fracking world, I think when oil gets below 60 bucks,
that's when the pain really starts.
Those guys have hard time making a dollar
if oil's below 60 bucks,
and OPEC is going to do everything they can to drive it down
because they'd like to put a bunch of that.
They'd like to mothball a bunch of that
because they don't like that very well.
Google, 173 bucks, Bitcoin 114,000.
Tesla, $347.
Gold.
Gold is $3,670.
silver is $37.
So all you guys sitting out there on a bunch of your
grandpa's gold silver dollars, I don't know.
It might be the time to part with them
or maybe you're saving them for the long term.
30-year treasury, 4.67.
The 10-year is at 4.0.
I would imagine the Fed is probably going to cut rates
given consumer sediment and the revision in the jobs.
They revised the jobs.
There's about,
almost a million jobs that they overcounted under the Biden administration and not doing that
great.
Otherwise, anyway, all of that, courtesy of our good friends at Contera Ag, we're going into fall
and things don't look very rosy.
And, you know, it might be a time to be thinking ahead.
And if you want to change something in your operation, you want to get your financing, you want to get your
finances where they need to be, probably better start now instead of starting later.
So if you want to talk to somebody that knows a little bit about the finance world of ag,
give our friends at Contera ag call contaraag.com.
And that is the market update.
How was a good one?
I tell you what, yesterday afternoon, I didn't do a damn thing, really, to speak of.
That news really kind of hit me, and I'm not a, you know, I know Charlie Kirk, I've seen a lot of
his stuff.
I don't follow him that close.
But as I told Sawyer, to me, the thing that is most tragic about that, besides, you know,
the obvious of him leaving a wife and two young children that are going to grow up with,
of dad and that whole dynamic but um for for your generation soyer's generation and the the young people
coming up behind you i mean that let's just get down to it i mean that's the reason that is the
reason why i think when it all comes out if it comes out and i pray that it does that somebody wanted
of killing because there are a lot of people that you can be pissed off about. A lot of politicians,
a lot of, you know, influencer people that are moving money and spending it on propping up
politicians and helping to try to change the election results and all that. There's all kinds
of people out there that, depending on what side of the equation you're on, people are probably
pissed off about, but there are very few people out there that actually move the needle.
And Charlie Kirk was one of those people. And the reason, the reason is because he kind of single-handedly
has taught your generation and these young people in college to think for themselves. And I think
that's what scares people more than anything else. You can say whatever you want about
his opinion on abortion, his opinion on the nuclear family, his opinion on whatever. And you can say
that he, you know, I heard people saying that he hate speech. I have never heard, I have never heard
that man say anything that in my mind you can misconstrue his hate speech just because he doesn't
like abortion. He doesn't like single parent families and he'll give you all the reason and all the
statistics and all that stuff.
But I think the biggest thing that people that don't agree with him what they feared
was he really taught people to think, to think about why things were the way they were
and to realize that the establishment in this country has been telling you a line of
bullshit for 50 years or longer.
And all they want to do is create people out there that are mad that are convinced
their victims.
And they don't ever want them to think hard enough about, well, why am I a victim?
And why are things this way?
And is what they tell me, is it the truth?
And if you raise up a generation of people that can think for them, if you can raise up a
generation of people that can thank for themselves, their need for government services and government
in general become much smaller. And I think that's, I think that's it. Yeah, I think, and I'm,
I'm the same way. I mean, I agree, like Charlie, I've seen a lot of Charlie's videos. Did I
follow him closely? Was I a big Charlie Kirk fan? No. It's not like I was religiously watching
of stuff. But I mean, yeah, everybody's seen him doing those debate videos at college campuses.
And, you know, you would tune in and watch those when they'd come up on your page because they
were always entertaining. And I never saw a video where he wasn't, he wasn't giving that person
a platform to talk about and ask their question and make it, in belittling them and making them
feel like their pieces of shit. It was never like he was being hated, you know,
hating that person for coming up and asking a question. It was really always, okay, but did you think
about this and this statistic, you know, with your argument? Like, he would legitimately debate people,
and that's the thing. All he did is put opinions out there. At the end of the day, Charlie put his
opinion out there and exercised his right of freedom of speech and it ended up getting him killed.
and I think no matter what side of the aisle you're on,
if we lose that right
and people are fearful to go out and speak their mind
and have debates,
that would you rather have it be the opposite
where nobody talks about anything?
Because this is one of those instances
that makes you want to shut up,
but we can't because that's not what he stood for.
That's not what our country needs.
And we need more people like him
that are willing to go and speak out
and say the truth and say what they feel.
deal, whether you agree with it or not, on both sides, that's how we're going to get shit figured
out. And I think you're right. It could have been, I don't know, we don't know who the person was
that assassinated him, no idea. It could have been a, they're saying that the way that it went,
it seemed like it was a well-planned out attempt on his life. And it, you know, somebody with some level of
skill executed this but who knows it could have been a pissed off psycho that just didn't like what charlie
charlie kirk had said in one of those videos and decided that he just thought it was right that
he took it took him out because of that and that's the difference that's the difference of yeah
i think the establishment didn't like charlie kirk at all and they maybe could have been behind
behind it, who knows,
but it very well could have just been a psychopath
on the left
that didn't like what Charlie Kirk said
and just thought that that was,
they just justified in their mind
that he needs to be taken out.
And that, that's the poison
that we got to get out of people's heads.
I mean, political violence
is not the answer.
And
I just,
I just cannot believe
the reaction that we're seeing from people, I mean, there are a lot of people that don't agree with
what happened. Majority, I think, of people with sanity, do not agree with what happened. And it's a
sad moment. It's tragic. And they put politics aside. But man, there sure is a lot of
psychopath liberals that are completely and utterly brainwashed that are celebrating that he died.
And that, I don't care what your politics.
are that is just sick.
That is fucking disgusting.
That is inhumane.
I mean, that is
there, I don't care.
You can try to tell me and convince me anything
about politics. And if that's how you
react to somebody dying, I don't care what comes out of your
mouth. You're a fucking psycho.
Like, you're literally crazy.
And so, um,
it's really sad to see that that, those kind of reactions
those kind of comments, those kind of videos
are being put out there by people
celebrating a man dying and clapping.
And that's
what's wrong with this country
at the end of the day. That is what's wrong
with this country because at the end of the day,
like we said,
the guy just put his opinion out there,
exercised his right of freedom of speech.
And I don't think he was,
I don't think he deserved what he got.
Yeah.
I don't think that.
that was deserved at all.
I think it would be interesting because, as I said,
we're shooting this on 9-11,
and it's going to come out, you know, in a couple days.
And so all of your politicians and all of your media outlets,
late last night after the big TIF went off about the guy on MSNBC saying that
starting with well maybe it was one of his one of his people that were celebrating with a rifle and
shot him you know obviously that guy i think he got fired well he did but you know he'll pop up
somewhere else but after all that you know all the niceties were out and today it's 9-11 and so
the rhetoric there has all died down but it'll be really interesting to see how long this lasts
before they all go back to the same playbook.
And, you know, I thought about this last night,
and I think that every person needs to sit.
Because the conversation last night that I saw on just about all outlets
and on social media is like, well, where do we go from here?
What do we do about this?
Well, on the one hand, I think that what Charlie Kirk started with Turning Point and having these open conversations and making people, making people make their case, think for themselves and articulate their viewpoint and defend their viewpoint, I think that is the sign of a healthy,
a healthy society.
And I hope that this inspires more people,
not less people,
to get out and do this.
But the other thing I'll say is,
and I'm going to use this,
I'm going to use this in my adult Sunday school,
this Sunday,
I'm going to start that,
and I'll ask every one of you this.
When I ask you the question,
like who are you describe yourself to me who are you if if any of you start that conversation with
well i'm a democrat or i'm a i'm an environmentalist or i'm a socialist or i'm any kind of an ist or
i'm a dog i'm a dog person or i'm a whatever conservative conservative a republican if you start that
conversation with any of those things that that's your identity, you're part of the problem.
Because the truth is that, and Charlie Kirk lived this out, I totally believe that 100%,
because he would start that conversation with, I'm a Christian, I'm a child of God, and that was
the first thing out of his mouth, and then he was a husband and a father.
and on down the line,
he was whatever.
He was a pundit.
He was an American.
Whatever.
If you are so wrapped up
in an identity
that doesn't serve any purpose
and only serves yourself
or some made up cause,
because let's face it,
all of this stuff is dust whatever political view you hold eventually doesn't matter because you're not
going to be here to defend that point of view and if you are an environmentalist no matter what
you do the earth that is spinning that you're on is going to end at some point the good lord is
coming back or the sun's going supernova or something.
or an asteroid's going to hit it.
There is nothing permanent about the life that we have.
So your recycling your plastic bottles is not going to save anybody from anything.
And your whatever cause you have, all you're doing is occupying your time.
And if you don't realize how insignificant all of those other things are,
then you're not doing it right.
You're just not doing it right.
and the person that killed Charlie Kurt, whoever that is, whether they thought it up,
whether they were paid to do it, whether it was a group of people, they have ruined many people's
lives. And if Charlie was here, he would tell you that, and in the end, none of it matters, none of that
matters. Your ism or your identity, your thing that you are defending or or promoting was all for
not because it, it doesn't change. If anything, I honestly believe if anything, this will only
strengthen the legacy of what Charlie Kirk started. And, um, that was what I was going to say. If
if they think that this was going to do the opposite and not have people speak out and continue
doing what Charlie was doing, I think it's going to do, they're going to see more of it.
Yeah.
Because you just radicalized more people to do what he was doing.
And it's probably going to cause even more hate and potential political violence.
But I do think that there's going to be also a lot of people that just like carry on his message
and said you just spawned a thousand Charlie Kirk's.
I mean, if not more.
Because you just literally,
you just made a lot of people say,
well, I'm not voting Democrat when it comes
election next time.
Like, I've ever seen so many people say that.
Like, I'm not voting for the left now.
So that's out of the question.
And the way that the people react
also is pushing people away from that party.
And yeah, I agree with you.
At the end of the day,
I just think there's a lot of evil in this world
and we got to get Jesus is going to be coming at some point
and it seems like there's more and more evil every single day
and I think that we got to people got to find
find God find Jesus and look at the things in their life
that really matter and focus on those things
because you don't know when your time is up
you don't know when your time on this planet is up
and yeah focusing on the stuff that really matter
I think is huge.
And what he,
and like you said,
Dad,
I mean,
I think he lived that.
He was very proud to be a Christian,
spoke about that.
He was very proud to be a dad and a husband.
Spoked very highly of that.
And all everything else came second,
you know,
and everything else was second.
But yeah,
I don't think that this is going to stop people.
This is just going to light a fire
under people's asses to,
to carry out what he was already doing.
And I think you're right, Dad. I think he was, you know, I think he was a light on a lot of these campuses of these universities because, you know, professors, you hear it all the time. Your kid goes to college, comes back. He grew up, conservative, comes back. He's fully liberal. And it's because all the professors spew what they spew. And you just kind of go along with the crowd and just, well, this is what the media is telling me. This is what my,
smart professor, quotation marks is telling me. So it just got to be true. This is what everybody in my
classroom is starting to think because I don't want to be the black sheep. So I'm just going to go with
the crowd. And that's the environment that I put myself in for four years. And he was an example of like
going to these universities and saying, hey, it's okay to maybe speak out and say that you do believe in
Jesus Christ. And ask why? And ask and ask why. And also, it's okay that you might be
a little more conservative than liberal and you can be be all right it's all right that you are and if
you're liberal here's a different here's a different opinion of what what i think and come up
come up to the stage and tell me that i'm wrong and explain your reasoning you know um i just can't
imagine how many lives he impacted not only to bring people to christ but also um to maybe change
somebody's viewpoint on something and not just take the professor or the media's word for it,
right? I think there was a lot of, a lot of those videos. I think he had more impact on people
and young kids than what people realize. And it's just sad to see that that's, that he's
gone in that regard. But I, and I'd like to say that, I don't know, I guess we'll see. You know,
as I said, by the time this comes out, we'll see whether the media has gone back to its talking points and everybody's just as bitter as they were.
I don't know whether how things will change, but I will tell you this.
I think I would like to say that all of this rhetoric is going to get better.
but I fear that it's not.
The reason that I fear that is because the traditional power bases,
the traditional, the people that have been held in regard that they were the ones you should listen to,
and by that I mean these colleges and these professors and people in the media,
you know, traditionally that's where people got their information.
and when they told you this is what it is, people believed them.
And we're at a time now where those people's pull is diminishing.
And Charlie's message just added to that
because he really made people want to think for themselves.
So when you think about the advent of AI,
and I think of the example of, you know,
like people that self-diagnosed now, you can get answers about anything, you know, on AI.
And so on the one hand, you get people that are questioning, like they get a prognosis from a doctor,
or they get an answer on a tax question, or they get a statement by a history professor,
and then what do they do? They go to AI and they check it, and it's a different answer,
and so then they confront that person.
whoever that is whoever that traditional person of power has been an authority they're being questioned
and they don't like being questioned and that's where you get this sense of fear that is gripping
the left i think is i feel like conservative people and i feel like entrepreneurs and i feel
people that are optimistic about the future, they see where things are going and they're excited for it.
And Charlie was excited.
Charlie was, if you look at his last, one of his last appearances on, I want to say he was Fox News,
he was talking about a new poll where young men are putting, like having children way higher on their priority list than what it has been.
and he was really excited about that.
And I feel like people are excited about the future and the opportunities.
But you know who isn't excited?
People who are playing victim.
People that are victims.
But the people that are in the power bases that have traditionally held that point of saying,
being able to say when you question why,
because I said so, and you should trust me because I'm the one that should know.
We know better than you.
Those people, whether they be politicians or whether they be academia or whether they be media,
because nobody questioned them.
And now people question everything and your generation and the generation behind you more so than
anybody.
And that scares them to death.
and that's why I fear that this, although I pray to the good Lord, that this really wakes people up
and it changes a lot of those conversations, I really feel like the people, the institutions,
the power, the uniparty, the education system, they are, they're scared to death.
And they're going to go out fighting tooth and nail because they do not want to give up what they have had,
because they've had a monopoly on knowledge, really.
Whether it be true or false,
they've had a monopoly on it,
and they've been indoctrinating all of us.
And I think those times, I think that time's up.
I think their time is up.
And I think Charlie Kirk was a huge catalyst in that.
And I don't think there's any going back.
And I think no matter what they do, how hard they fight, how much they drag their feet, there is no going back.
And those people are not, I think people today, we just don't trust and we just don't take things on blind faith.
And so many of the, so many of the ideas that have been expounded over the last 30 years, we're coming to find out that,
it's just not that way.
Yeah.
And I saw somebody say this online, you know.
Talking directly to the people that are, you know,
saying these horrible things in the comments
or making videos celebrating his death, you know.
No great, great men, unfortunately, get assassinated.
You know, you're not, if you didn't get assassinated,
you weren't fighting for something.
You weren't putting it.
You are vanilla.
Vanilla people don't get assassinated.
People that don't do fucking anything
or stand for anything in their life
don't get assassinated.
And they go to the grave
with not having done anything
purposeful in their entire life.
And all these keyboard warriors
and all these people
that are making these videos
chanting for the death of this guy,
they're going to go to the grave
and not have done a fucking thing
for this world to benefit it.
A man in the arena.
Yeah.
Man in the arena.
arena. And so it is sad as hell that he passed away, but just know great men, great men have haters,
great men have people that are constantly trying to take you down and fight, fight against you
you and fight what you're doing. And Charlie had that obviously. And he died as a great man.
And he was assassinated. And that's very, very tragic. But that just goes to show you how powerful
he really was of the movement he was leading.
And, you know, that's got to be worse something.
You know, like, and it's just funny, the left always,
they're always talking about how, I mean, this is something that we get,
I don't want to go back on right or left,
but they talk about how they're the party of, you know, inclusiveness.
And everybody, everybody's won and everybody should be, everybody's welcome.
Everybody's welcome and da, da, da, da, da, da.
But the political violence that we're seeing mostly happens on the left.
I mean, it really does.
And I don't know if the person that shot Charlie Kirk,
we don't know yet if he was left wing, right wing,
if he was identified as this or identified as that,
or he was this religion or this religion.
We have no idea.
But people are fearful that this was a left-wing attack
on a right-wing person.
And we've seen that countless times.
We've seen it with Trump's assassination attempt.
I mean, it's just sick.
It's just sick.
And we're tired.
People are tired of it.
People are tired of it.
The fact that people's feelings get so hurt that they have to go to, let's go towards violence.
This was, is sick.
To what you said, though, I honestly, I, and I may be proven wrong, but I honestly believe,
and we may not ever know.
But this, Charlie Kirk's assassination didn't happen.
happen over anger. It happened because of fear. Because whatever group is behind it or whatever
person or whatever it was, it is the fear of what he, of the movement that he started. It wasn't
because he pissed people off. I don't believe that at all. Yeah, granted, I'm sure they were very
pissed off. But it is the fear of the movement and the millions of people that he has
touched and those people not sharing not being soft-headed enough to being worked over it is the fear
of that i believe that ultimately got it killed and to your point that's the difference great great
great people that end up having something like this happen to them it isn't usually because of anger
it is because of fear of what the ideas,
the ideas that they represent
and the movements that they begin,
that is what gets people like that assassinated.
Because people can deal with anger,
but when you see a movement
that is going to upend the status quo,
that was fear, I believe.
Yeah.
Yeah.
It's an evil world we live in, unfortunately.
Yeah, and I think this is a, you know, people are talking about this, if you don't believe,
if you do not believe in the power of evil in the world versus,
it is a spiritual war that is being waged.
And I'm sure that people felt this way in the 60s.
if you were here when
when Kennedy was shot and then his brother was shot
and JFK was shot or Martin Luther King
you had to feel like
you had to feel very similar to way a lot of people feel today
like that the establishment
was just so terrified
of what they represented
I mean, I don't know.
I wasn't alive then, but that's kind of how I feel today.
Yeah, it's just heating up.
It's just heating up and it needs to cool down.
And I don't know how it cools down.
And we're in a different place because social media and media is just everywhere.
And everybody's opinion and talking points just constantly being put out there.
And now with AI, you don't know what's real.
You don't know what's fake.
And it's just like, will it ever cool down because we're more connected than ever before?
with opinions and people's hate speech or not hate speech
or seeing everything all the time, like, you know,
it's just constantly adding fuel to the fire all the time
because everybody gets to see and hear
and look at everything that's being put out there
on both sides of the aisle.
And I don't know if that's necessarily a good thing.
You know, I don't know if that's going to help cool things down at all, you know?
And it needs to because I just don't think this is the way
this isn't the way we need to move.
This isn't the way that this isn't what built this country.
You're supposed to be able to talk to your fellow citizens
and exercise freedom of speech.
You know, that's what we have to be able to do.
And we have to be able to keep that
without feeling like we're going to get shot.
And the scary part is, you know,
I think there's a lot of the talking heads in media and politics,
you know, not even politics.
You know, I think like when we're talking about,
how Charlie was one of these people that thought for himself and was pushing his own movement
in his own way. I think about Dana White, how Dana White is the president of C and I think he's
the CEO. He might not be the CEO, but started the UFC and that guy is unapologetically himself
and he'll say whatever the fuck he thinks. And it usually goes against the status quo of what the
media is telling everybody to think. And I love that guy, but they're sure of a hell of a lot of
people that hate him. Dave Portnore, another one of those people. He's kind of a polarizing figure
that barstool sports. That guy will say whatever the hell he thinks. And I respect that. And I hope
that that continues. Joe Rogan, Sean Ryan, those Stephen Smith. Yeah, Tucker Carlson. I mean,
we have to keep those people. We have to, we have to keep those people, they have to be able to say
what they want to say. We have to protect that. We have to protect that. We have to protect what those
people embody, not just their ideas, but just how they go about putting what they're putting
out out. That has to continue. Even what we're doing on this show today. I mean, you know,
we've always thought maybe about doing some stuff in person, you know, events. But it's like when
this shit like this happens, it's like, man, it takes one bad egg. You know, it takes one bad person
to not like you that can totally screw everything and i'd be okay because i'm there aren't really any
podiums out there that i'm tall enough to be look over there you go you'd be the one to be worried you
better keep moving yeah that's right that's good that's good point it's a good point yeah but it's just man
it's it's just a really somber moment in american history and i don't know i don't know what else you have
I don't know what else there's else to say.
I don't think there is.
I think, you know, we kind of debated about whether to do this episode.
Because by the time this comes out, if you look at all the pod,
there'll be 100 podcasts out talking about this.
And we're not going to tell you anything you don't already know.
I just.
I mean, and this is, you know what my honest to God feeling was?
This makes me want to go off grid.
This makes me want to buy a compound with my family and friends
and not fucking, not, you know, not do shit, not talk to people, not go out there.
Don't go to a big city.
Don't go to a big crowd.
Don't go do any of that shit because the world's what they want.
That world's fucking crazy.
And exactly.
That's the other, that's the opposite point of it is.
That's not what we.
we can't do that.
That's the reason that he's dead today.
Yeah, because that's what they want.
They want you to shut up and just take it
and not disagree with what's going on
in the country and in the world.
But I think the opposition is,
we've said it 100 times on this podcast,
you know, set the standard in your own family
and your own community,
put the right things first.
Go find God.
Be a good husband.
Be a good wife.
Be a good father.
be a good mother, do good in your community, be a leader of what it means to be an American
and exercise your freedom of speech and say what you think is right and talk about it with
other Americans and get your message out there. And if somebody disagree with you, that's part of
the process and that's okay. That's what makes this country great. The fact that we can even
say what we think, there's countries, there's a lot of countries where people can't even
say what they actually think or else they'll get thrown in the street.
eating shot.
Yeah.
Or hung.
You can't even say what you actually think.
So the fact that we even have that, right, we can't, we can't stop exercising that, right?
And we can't get scared and fall back and not ever say what we actually feel because of
situations like this.
We got to actually do the complete opposite because if we just keep taking it in the shorts,
man, then, then you lose all your rights.
You lose everything.
And we lose the fabric of what makes America.
great and we just can't allow that to happen so and the everything that you said and the one thing
i'll piggyback on that is uh be a good you know be a good husband be a good wife be a good father
but you know what work on yourself because if you if you aren't the best version of yourself you
really can't help anybody else and so uh i think all of us of americans if we took a step back and we
spent more time worrying about what's on the inside of us and a little less time pointing out
the uh pointing out the the sticks in other people's eyes uh as a society we'd be a whole lot better
and um yeah taking taking extreme ownership is very very important i think we're lacking that
major yeah because you're it's like we said uh young people today are getting told to where that is a badge of
honor that you're a victim.
Yeah.
Don't internalize any of it.
Don't take any extreme ownership of your life.
And make that your identity.
Make that your identity.
Because that's weakness.
I mean, at the end of the day, that's weakness.
You are creating a movement of weakness of people that,
poor me, poor me,
I'm going to go to the streets and fight this and fight that
because this happened to me or this happened to my family before me or yada,
yada yada, but that doesn't change anything in your life now.
If you have that mentality, you're never, ever going to have a life that you feel good about
because you're constantly going to be living in the past and you're constantly going to be
living in the what happened to me or what happened to my ancestors or what happened to my
family, whatever it is.
Not saying people don't go through hard shit, but you cannot stay there or else you're
going to
you're going to live a
shitty life.
No amount of stuff is going to fill that void or fix
that and no amount of free shit
is going to make you whole. So
you might as well stop that.
I feel like, you know what?
I feel like
today deserves a whiskey minute.
I think I'm going to have a glass
in honor of Charlie and
we haven't done a whiskey minute in a while.
and I don't know.
I feel like we've said what we can say,
so we should probably...
Yeah.
The bottle that I've got is...
Came from a guy down in Tennessee.
Is that right?
Are we in Kentucky?
I think we were in Kentucky, weren't we?
Gosh, dang, it's been so long since we went.
This is a bottle.
of Docs Rye Whiskey.
So I think his name is Doc Swanson.
And it literally is handmade.
I think his distillery is called the Rusty Barn.
And so if this gets back to him, I want him to know, I appreciate it.
He signed this bottle, left me a note on it.
And it's so funny because I was with a couple of high school buddies, and we went down
there.
And one of my friends heard about this little distillery, and we drove out in the middle of
nowhere.
it literally is kind of in the sticks and it's just a barn and I walked in and his neighbor was over
there and she looked at me and she asked me if I was on TikTok. I said yeah and that spoke that
started a whole conversation and he gave us the whole tour and we got this bottle of of rye whiskey
and it's kind of, you know,
it was just one of those really unique,
kind of an American thing, I guess,
you know, how you just,
we're all so connected that we don't even know it.
And those are the kind of relationships.
I mean, I would hate to even know how many people
and how many relationships, Charlie Kirk,
has found in the short amount of time
that he was on planet Earth
just by talking to people.
The people he met, the people that he influenced,
the great conversations he had.
So anyway...
And I think just putting what he put out there.
I mean, that's just like what happened to you down there.
I mean, by putting out what you put out,
it opens the door for conversations.
to meet people.
And at the end of the day,
life's about people.
It is.
I mean,
at the end of the day,
life is about the people around you
and the impact you had on people.
And that's what truly matters at the end of the day.
These glasses,
there's a glass bottle,
but our good friends at Farm for Profit gave us a set of whiskey glasses
with a decanter that have our logo on it.
so I thought, you know, we should use that today.
I'll trade you.
Give me that one.
We had to move.
We had to move our table kind of far apart
because when we had this setup for five people, it was.
So this isn't very old.
It is 10 a.m., isn't it?
Yeah, it is like 10 a.m.
But I figured it was appropriate.
Yeah.
He wasn't a drinker either.
He wasn't a drinker.
He wasn't.
No.
But we are here a little.
bit. A little bit. A little bit.
So we figured we might as well
honor him and
so it smells
a little strong.
It is, let's
see. It is,
boy, I should have. Here, hang on.
Hang on. I'll give you the whole
nine yards. I got my cheater glasses
on. Look at that.
You are really looking old now.
So
aged oak barrels
over one, one
year and it's oh 95.3 proof so it's not it's not that high uh this is from batch four uh yeah so
yeah that's right we actually crossed into indiana so we were in we were in kentucky and uh
we is that right gosh dang i can't remember if we went to kentucky or tennessee now i can't
remember which where we went anyway we crossed into the very ten
of Indiana and this guy's place is in Mount Vernon Indiana if any of you know where that's at
Doc Swanson's his name so anyway that's what you can expect you're going to give it a whirl
cheers to Charlie cheers to Charlie you're in a better place and prayers to your wife and your
kids and I think everybody should appreciate what what you've done for us yeah God bless America
Yep. Cheers.
It's actually not as bad as I initially thought it might be.
Yeah, you thought it was going to really burn.
Yeah, no, it's actually smooth.
I don't know what the flavor is there.
It's pretty fast.
Yeah.
It'd be a good mixer.
But I'll just tell you, if any of you ever get the chance
and you're down in that neck of the woods,
great experience because he took the time
to take us through the whole distillery
showed us how he made it, told us a lot of great stories.
All of the grain that goes into it comes off of his farm.
They raise barley, they raise corn, they raise wheat, they raised the rye, and just neat.
So anyway, what would you rate that?
Oh, I don't know.
7.5.
I would probably mix it.
It would make a good old fashion.
Yeah, I would agree.
I'd go 7 on it.
Yeah, definitely better than I anticipated.
so that's good any last words um just i mean it's like everything i i honestly did not think that
i did not think that this would affect me the way that it has and um it's just sad it's a sad
it's a sad event in the history of this country uh to lose somebody like that and
it's up to each and every one of us.
It is literally up to each and every one of us to
carry on what he started.
And it's like you said.
Don't sit on your ass.
Get involved.
Don't just complain.
Don't just complain about the way things are.
Do the work.
Do the work on yourself.
Figure out what's wrong, why it's wrong,
and help be the solution,
not just bitch about the problem.
And I think he would appreciate it.
that. Yeah, it comes back to all of us. I mean, we all kind of realize that politicians in Congress,
we outnumber them way more than they outnumber us. And, you know, we, if we want to see the change,
we have to be the change in our own communities and inside this country. We can't lead with hate.
We can't lead with political violence. That's going to get us nowhere. And that's going to make us
lose the fabric of what it means to be an American and what it means, uh,
to live in this country.
And so we just have to continually,
I think, challenge the status quo
of no matter where you're getting the information.
Do you, do, I mean,
we've said it on this podcast a hundred times.
We don't have the fucking answers.
We're,
we're two poor dirt farmers here in Iowa
that, uh,
have opinions on farming and,
and life.
And we're figuring things out every single day.
We go through trials and tribulations.
Our lives aren't perfect.
We're not perfect.
but you know we're we're trying to seek out answers and learn for ourselves and try to set that
standard for what it means to be an American and I think that's the challenge for everybody
everybody out there and it starts with us and it's all about relationships it's all about
people nobody's going to go to you're not going to go to your deathbed or your grave
and nobody's nobody's going to give a shit about the stuff that you accumulated
or the thing that you built.
But if you build,
I guess if you build something that had an impact on people,
that's what's going to remember.
The movement of what you built
or the movement that you stood behind
or the character that you had
or how you impacted people,
that is what people are going to talk about
when you die someday.
Not that you were a victim,
not because of this happened to you or this happened to you.
What people are going to remember Charlie for
is what he stood for.
you know what what the impact you had on people that's what that's what's going to be remembered and so
we all have to we all have to take inventory and and think about what we're doing to to help people
and to have an impact on people in a in a positive way and um it's like you said i think the sad
part about it is uh just just what it means just i think what's the saddest part about it is it just
we're here yeah this hat i think what's the saddest part about it is it just we're here yeah this hat i think what's
makes the saddest thing is it's just it's so tragic how it happened was so tragic and who it happened to
is tragic but just the fact that this is where we're at that's the saddest part because it makes you
feel like we've lost our way a little bit that's the saddest part you know and unlike 9-11 i don't i i
would maybe hope that this would bring people together but honestly i don't i think it's going to do the
opposite, which is sad. I guess 9-11, if you have an opposition that both sides can agree upon
is the enemy, then that brings people together. But when you have something like this that
might be one-sided, one side's responsible for the tragic event, that's where, I don't know,
I don't know where we go from here.
I just hope that we can get it back on course and know that this is not the way.
Yeah, it's up to every one of us.
I mean, the outcome that we all want depends on each, every one of us.
And you can't worry about how someone else reacts.
It's how you react yourself.
And so you be the best version of you and fight for your country.
Fight, fight, fight to, to prank us back to where.
where we were what it means to be an American get our country back it starts all of us so that's
going to wrap it up guys I know it was a short one I know it was a quick one but we just felt like this
was kind of a impromptu podcast that we wanted to do to do today because we think it's important
and we appreciate the hell out of all you guys we love you keep fighting the fight
god bless america god bless charlie kirk and we'll see it back here next week
for another episode.
