All right, welcome back to Blue by 90.
I'm Justin, joined by Kalenlin we don't know where jack is he
was supposed to be here told us that he would be here but he's not but more much much more
importantly we have our guy here we we wanted to bring on the guy who just absolutely balled out this past Saturday, had the best stats on the entire team.
Brad Robbins, punter. We appreciate you, Brad. You know you're a guy. How you doing, man?
Yes, sir. Yes, sir. Appreciate you guys. Yeah, I don't know. You said more importantly,
you know, waiting on Jack. I think me and Jack had the same amount of playing time last week,
so I'd value. I think our importance is about the same.
I like it.
I like it.
There we go.
All right.
Now Jack's with us.
Oh, there he is.
Perfect timing.
I only missed 50 seconds.
You look like the baby from The Hangover right now.
Thank you.
Thank you.
What a reference.
I appreciate that. It's actually amazing.
The listeners are probably like the first 50 seconds.
It's like, fuck, we're going to have to listen to Justin talk this entire time. This sucks. Thank you. What a reference. The listeners are probably like the first 50 seconds.
Like, fuck, we're going to have to listen to Justin talk this entire time.
This sucks.
Don't worry, everybody.
I'm here.
I'm ready to go.
Is this a new mic, Jack?
You know what?
It is a new mic.
Dude, it sounds awesome.
It's a new old mic.
It's a new setup of the old mic.
It is.
I've got nothing back here now.
Nice.
Love it. Love it. All right. Well, hey. old mike it is good stuff i've got nothing back here now nice love it love it all right well hey
well thanks thank you for joining us we appreciate it
yeah yeah um but brad hey tell us what it was like were you just like itching to get into the
game at be honest at some points in the second half where you're like
i i wouldn't mind if we like didn't get this third down right here if i could go punt
um well i think the preparation as a punter is just like you really have to prep every game like
you're gonna punt like a hundred times you know and like my routine is pretty much the same um
just like moving forward throughout the game, I have the same routine,
second down, third down, like, and then whether or not we convert the third down,
you know, it's like I either go back to the kicking net
or I'm out on the field playing, right?
So the constant back and forth is pretty funny.
It's been like a common theme this year, which is pretty good.
You know, credit to our offense has been,
I think our third down conversion rate is pretty solid, pretty high,
because I've definitely been running back and forth to our special teams
coordinator and back, you know, kicking that a fair amount of times.
But, yeah, the anticipation, it's like you just really got to stay locked
in the whole game, because even with like a minute left,
we almost had to punt with like a minute left in the game.
And I'm not quite sure what the decision was
but it was like third
and 15 or something like that
and I think it was like CJ Stokes ran
for a first down
he almost broke it actually
he did
also I can't tell if I'm just tripping right now
or is the audio going up and down
like crazy
I do feel like Brad you're going down like crazy i don't i do
feel like brad you're going in and out i don't know what you how about how about i move it a
little closer move it a little closer no i'll move it a little closer is this better shaved
your beard man i don't know yeah maybe the sound's just getting held up or less held up i don't know
that's held up yeah yeah yeah that beard filter yeah. Yeah, there's like its own pop filter. That's awesome.
Yeah.
Does this sound better?
Is this good?
Yeah, that's better.
No, I mean, it is probably like a little bit annoying
that you have to like stay locked in
and you could have like your one play of the game with a minute left.
But you have to be warmed up all game
so like how many kicks did you into the net did you have on saturday like a thousand yeah um
so i get one every second down and every third down so count however many second down and third
oh my god so do you guys have like a list of like the the coaches talk to you at all or like
hey guys like we've we've got a certain amount of balls we have available for this game we can
lose 40 balls and we're like we're okay if we lose anything over 40 coach is gonna be pissed
because i'm almost like how much of a great fan engagement experience would it be
if every second and third down you're just fucking punting balls
out of the stadium
into the crowd
I don't know if there's an NCAA ruling
on that
no I said I don't know
I have no idea
I've missed the net before
my freshman year I missed the net
love it
the fans probably like loved it
yeah yeah it was pretty funny but uh i i don't know if that'd be sweet we would definitely
volunteer as the guys that are like on in the stands or on the concourse that we have to go
get them and bring them back to you all day little kid's hand give me that right i would kind of i feel like that would almost help because i
can see the flight i can see what the wind yeah rather than like hitting it right and it's yeah
we've got a legitimate thing here i think we do yeah for the game aside from the fan engagement
just like just out of you know the practicality of, like, actually seeing the ball play. It just makes sense.
Yeah, it just makes a ton of sense.
Yeah, all right.
So that's good.
We'll talk to Coach Harbaugh about that for the MSU game.
I think we're locked in, though.
Great friend of the program, Coach Harbaugh.
Yeah, he listens every week, he told me.
So, yeah, very nice of him.
All right, so, I mean, you're off to a 7-0 start you guys back-to-back 7-0 uh years uh it what's the feeling like i i guess compare the feeling
of 7-0 in 2022 to the feeling of where you guys were at 7-0 in 2021. Same? Different? What do you think?
I think different.
Just thinking about it, the standard was kind of set last year, right?
Like, yeah, obviously we expect to win.
We expect to, you know, play our hardest and win each game, right?
But the standard that we set last year it's almost
just like an expectation going into these games this year right it's okay well a lot of the guys
we have the most experience that we've had on any of the michigan teams right that i've been on
uh the amount of guys for 25 years right right right what's the 97 year like yeah so were you on the field with those guys
are you on the sideline did they let you yeah they gave me one of the hoodies yeah they gave
me one of the hoodies and i went out there with them yeah no so uh no i mean it's just
i like our team this year like in comparison to our team last year, I don't know.
I hate comparing it to the team last year.
Yeah, yeah.
Like thinking about it, it's like football and like our football environment
is kind of like a what have you done for me lately kind of thing.
Like in terms of like how the world views us, right?
That's just like how it is.
Well, Mike Mo just told me the quote from Herb,
which is nobody cares work
harder right yeah yeah i think uh lamar lamar jackson had that on like a t-shirt like it's my
fantasy qb yeah there you go and uh i think i think we really embodied that um i think the
best thing that we did this off season was uh searching for our new identity understanding that our identity is not
going to be the exact same as last year like yeah last year was a blueprint of like how to win games
and like build a foundation and like understanding the standard of what we need to do to achieve what
we want to achieve but actually creating it like a new identity like no one's going to be an Aiden
Hutchinson like we're not looking for a guy to we're looking for Mike Morris to be Mike Morris we're looking for Brad Robbins to be Brad Robbins we're lookingiden Hutchinson. Like we're not looking for a guy to, we're looking for Mike Morris to be Mike Morris.
We're looking for Brad Robbins to be Brad Robbins.
We're looking for JJ to be JJ.
We're not looking for anybody to fill those guys' shoes.
Like those guys were recruited for a reason.
Those guys were there for a reason.
You know, and I make sure I tell like even Olu, right?
We got Olu from the transfer portal.
And I tell Olu like dang near every day.
It's like, dude, I cannot believe you're here. Like, like this is the most,
this is the most incredible pickup of all time. Right.
It's like you belong here and like, don't be like anybody else.
Just be yourself. Like that's, what's going to make our team successful.
That's what's going to make you successful. Right.
So now that we're talking centers and snappers,
big topic that I'm very interested in Olu,
obviously the center for the offense
i just saw a picture on on uh instagram is willie wags out for the season what what's going on i
saw him on the bench or something yeah i mean he got injured in the iowa game but he never really
like i don't know exactly what's going on obviously all i know is just he has a brace
and he wasn't in his uniform.
You think he's just being a baby?
He's like, Coach, I've got to study more.
Yeah, that's probably it.
He's watching.
I've got to study.
Yeah.
Who's your guy's long snapper right now?
Will Tartt.
Greg Tartt.
Greg Tartt.
I was going to say, everybody was giving credit to Moody for those 15 points, whatever
that was, but you had
a couple nice snags back there.
Yeah, Greg does a really good job.
He's been here.
This is his third year. He came in
COVID season.
Okay.
He traveled and he got the experience
just being behind wags and watching how we
conduct our business as a a special teams unit.
Right. And, you know, he gets the same amount of reps WAGs does in practice, all that kind of stuff.
They rotate in and out. Right. So there's definitely full trust there.
And, you know, having having guys like me and Moody that are just old and experienced and have been really, really, really old and have been here for a long time,
it just makes him more comfortable in any given situation.
His first start was an away game at Indiana, right?
Indiana always plays you guys tough, man.
Yeah, that's stressful.
Right?
Just because of my experience you guys tough man yeah that's stressful right and just because
of my experience like as a freshman right and my first start was away you know at purdue
just kind of like a similar environment i was able to kind of just talk to him and
was your first start the jono corn game my first start was when wilton broke his back yeah
damn oh fuck did i remember watching like game? You didn't have a...
Like, John O'Korn is going to win the Heisman
and Michigan football is back.
Yeah.
There was a lot going through my head in that game.
Oh, is that?
Well, I mean, I was told like 10 minutes before the game,
they're like, hey, you're starting, by the way.
I was like, oh.
I was like, oh, okay.
Wait, who else was punting before you?
So it was Will Hart and I.
Okay, yeah, that's what I thought.
So he started, it was like Florida.
I think it was like Air Force Army.
Is he in the NFL right now?
I think he's training.
I actually trained with him down in Alabama for a bit in the offseason.
Okay.
Go Vols. Definitely the offseason. Okay. Go, Todd. Yeah.
Go, Vols.
Definitely not.
Never.
Never.
Never.
I have a question for you on the topic of you being old.
What has been, like, your biggest, like, damn, I'm old moment
inside the locker room or something like that yeah i mean just kind of
understanding that the freshman now we're in seventh grade when i like played at purdue it's
like it was kind of a weird reality it was like and but then it's like i think about guys like
tom brady it's like dudes who just arrived in the league, like were not even born when he was like a senior college.
That's such an insane stat.
Like I've seen it too.
And I mean, it's not even like,
I think it's happened for a few years now for him,
but like that stat blows my mind.
And the fact that he's still, I mean,
obviously I don't think he's quite as good as he was,
but the fact that he's still pretty elite is just unreal.
I'll be honest with you.
This is very upsetting for me.
I see a lot of the other college football programs,
TikToks, sports teams and whatnot.
What's that?
It's like there's a TikTok.
It's like I was born this year, and then it's like, oh, when were you born?
It was like 19.
19?
Yeah.
I need to see some freshman talking to you, Moody, and Joel.
I'm in that conversation.
I think that would be the funniest thing ever.
Are you 98?
Yeah.
Hey, baby, let's go.
Ro was born in the fucking 70s, dude.
Did you know he's middle-aged?
I'm 92.
That's why he's wearing that hat
because he's bald like us.
He has no hair.
That's the toupee.
It's the toupee.
Everybody knows.
Stop trying to freaking pull it off.
Listen, don't talk to me.
You and your fake perfect teeth.
Me and my girlfriend do this thing, right?
We're out in public.
If I spot a guy
who's like losing his hair oh yeah like i'll like point it out i'll be like that guy needs to shave
his head oh you know like and she'll be like she'll she'll she'll like tell me she'll be be
nice be nice at the uh at the game the other day at the no come on man you gotta help him out but yeah that's
what i said i was like i was like maddie dude if there's anybody who can say it i was like right
right right i can say it's like okay it's from a place i'm trying to help him out
yeah what brad what would your head look like if you tried to uh grow it out right now? Do you have
a horseshoe?
Yeah, you ever see a cul-de-sac?
It looks like
a lawn with no
houses built on it, but it's like
a cul-de-sac.
That's incredible.
So Moody during camp, y'all didn't even see it i had the reverse fade so moody moody faded me down to thick like it was like thinnest at the top then he faded me down okay
wait so when you say moody you're saying like moody the barber or money moody the kicker
oh moody the kicker he bought he brought his clippers
to the uh is he kind of is he nice with the clippers oh yeah he's nice with it oh okay did
he cut anybody on the team uh i mean like he's he's done a couple trims with guys like the old
man like our kicker who trusts him he did some racing stripes and a couple dudes head okay all right jake all right jacob yep
yep he had experience though because we had a deal if i beat him uh seven zero in nhl he had
to shave his eyebrow so last year he had a he put a notch in his eyebrow because i beat him seven
nothing that's incredible oh man um and also at what point did you guys uh i mean we we saw you in
the summer and i think you guys had stashes then but at what point were you guys like we're rocking
the stash all season long yeah it was kind of like a just like a gimmicky thing to do during camp
and keep everybody's spirits up that guy that's funny that guy has a mustache you know like uh
like it's like a camaraderie thing but then we started kicking well uh in camp and like getting in a
rhythm and getting in a routine and we were like all right yeah it's got to stay i mean
if you don't keep the mustache for the rest of your punting career i think people are going to
be upset because you got the best mustache in college football right now yeah yeah i've been
thinking about that too i'm like man i really want to grow this beard like it's getting cold because you got the best mustache in college football right now yeah yeah i've been thinking
about that too i'm like man i really want to grow this beard like it's getting cold i want to grow
this beard back i'm like like i saw something like snapchat a little bit of stubble as long
as the mustache is noticeable outside of the beard i think i think you're good because you're going
for a hody podie modi Wait, what's the Modi?
Mustache of the Year.
Yeah.
Come on, baby.
Come on.
Justin doesn't play sports.
I'm sorry.
Mustache of the Year is about sports.
Yeah, sorry.
It is.
You ever seen Raleigh Fingers?
What, you don't think he's an athlete?
He is an athlete.
He's the GOAT, actually. Exactly.
That is like one of the best trading cards out there
is the Raleigh Fingers with the stash.
This segued in something else.
Brad, did you see the Babe Ruth diet?
Oh, next level.
No, I did not.
You know who Babe Ruth is, right?
Yes, I know who Babe Ruth is.
I was in college when Babe Ruth was alive.
I know you're younger than us.
Okay, I just wanted to make sure.
Kalen, can you explain the Babe Ruth diet to Brad?
Oh, my gosh.
I don't know what off the top of my head, but it is just incredible.
It is nonstop calories.
So I was watching on KFC radio when you sent it again,
but it's like I think for breakfast he did breakfast was four hot dogs
and a pint whiskey whiskey and ginger
says the great game okay are you pulling it up great breakfast that included yeah it said
half dozen eggs porterhouse steak potatoes washed down with a court
quart size container of bourbon and ginger ale yeah yeah you also oh no. Keep going.
He's like a Michael Phelps type freaking diet
for the day.
This is like the opposite of the
Brady method.
Exactly. Eat 20 hot dogs,
eat four steaks,
drink a shit ton, and then
just hit home runs.
Sure.
You guys are both VR.
Yeah.
Ooh.
So,
Oh shit.
I don't know.
I don't know.
Yeah.
I don't know if I'm going to hop on that diet though.
I don't know if I'm.
You're you're.
You're a NFL.
Maybe things will change.
I will see.
I'm trying to,
why,
why am I,
what's,
what's the word for how fast you like burn calories?
Metabolize?
Yeah.
Your metabolism is not like it was
when you were 18 anymore.
Bro, ever since I found
out you didn't have a graduate degree,
I feel like every time you talk, I just feel like you get
dumber.
This is me. I don't have a degree. I'm not saying you're a stupid person.
I'm just saying, I always thought you had
a graduate degree, and it just fucked me up mentally when I don't have a degree. I'm not saying you're a stupid person. I always thought you had a graduate degree
and it just fucked me up mentally when I found out you didn't.
And now I'm just
a moron to you.
Yeah.
Brad probably has more degrees than all of us.
How many degrees do you have now?
You've got to be bilingual
and have like four
law degrees or something.
Put it in your degree pile.
Yeah, the second degree is on its way
i'll have it by the end of the semester school's just getting boring at this point you know are
you a professor now also i could be like a uh what do they call it gsi or uh yeah yeah yeah
you should i i could i could grade uh grade some guys papers on the team. There we go.
A plus.
Coach Harbaugh's hitting you.
I'd be like, hey, we need this guy eligible.
I need you to do a couple things here.
Let's get you like a mustache stamp. That E60 would be incredible.
Oh, yeah.
That would be a good story.
Do you have eligibility left?
We got a ton.
Yeah.
Are you talking to me?
Yeah. Oh, not you jack um yeah so i actually i found out i have a seventh year i think stop
no no no so okay okay all right let me what are the chances is my mind so you can do a seventh year of football
in class i'd start a doctorate okay but you can play football again right yeah yeah yeah so
remember greg paulus who was a hooper at duke and then he could have like an extra year if he
changed a sport and played so like could you do like an eighth year of like golf if you want to?
So that would go more into like, cause golf's a full year sport.
Like it's, it's all year round.
Okay.
But you'd be done with football.
Yeah.
But if I went to baseball, cause it's a spring sport, right?
How can I do less?
I don't think, yeah, I don't think I would exercise any additional.
We're friends with the coach.
We can talk to him for you.
Oh, Tracy loves me, dude.
He doesn't follow me back on Instagram or on Twitter yet,
but he likes my tweets every now and again.
Yeah.
He's got a bad room.
You guys are totally best friends.
Tracy loves me.
Totally.
Also a bald guy.
Give us the percent chance right now that you use your seventh year so i always think about it right like what's like am i the best advice i'd ever
received is if you have like any inkling in like your body and soul and mind of like man i should
stay here right then you should probably do it.
Cause you can only do it once,
you know?
Um,
so obviously like just thinking about it,
you know,
I don't really know moving forward.
Uh,
I would like to just take it one game at a time and then just like kind of
reassess at the end of the season and just be like,
eh,
is this something I want to do again?
Or just how do I do it?
Well,
the thing is,
the other reoccurring thought is I would play...
I would break the record for the most games ever played.
And it would never be broken
ever again.
Dude, you kind of have to.
It's actually true.
Wait, so what's that record?
I'm not sure.
I think it's like...
Somewhere in the 60s? 60-something? I don not sure. I think it's like somewhere in the 60, 60 something.
I don't know.
I'd have to double check, but it can be done.
Wow.
All right.
We've got a lot to think about as a group.
This is obviously a group decision.
Also, if you come back again to play football next year,
how much do we have to pay you to wear number 90?
Ooh. 90? 90?
90?
Switch the number?
Or how much do you have
to pay us to be blue by
91?
We can have both discussions, whatever you want to do.
You'd have to ask Mike Moe first.
I assume he's going to be
in the NFL by next year.
He's killing it. I didn't even think about that. I assume he's going to be in the NFL by next year. That dude, he's killing it.
Well, I didn't even think about that.
I guess I'm just assuming.
You don't think he's good enough for the NFL?
Everybody's staying here forever?
I was just going to say,
it doesn't even register in your head that you're going to be in the NFL.
I was going to turn Mitch Green into an NFL team.
Stay forever.
I'd love it.
Oh, my God.
Oh, that.
I swear to God,
if I see the post come out that Brad Robbins is coming back,
I will cry laughing.
It'll be the best moment of my life.
Oh, that would be incredible.
I don't know.
I'd have to come out with an insane graphic for that, too.
Oh, yeah.
I'd have to get up Kayla and be like, dude, all right,
put something together for our guy.
Like gray beard.
Oh.
Did a mustache
this year. Maybe it'll be Gandalf next year.
Ooh.
Yeah, that was the original thought for camp, was
dying the beard and everything gray
for camp. Justin has no idea who that is.
He doesn't like good movies.
Yeah, Gandalf is
Star Wars. Yep. Exactly. He doesn't like good movies. Gandalf is Star Wars.
There you go.
He doesn't like anything with realms.
Luke, I am your father.
I live in this world.
All I do is
Michigan football. That's the only thing
I know.
That's the only thing I know.
You're like Slug with Krusty Krab, but Michigan football.
Brad, how's life how you doing i'm good man i got class now two days a week because a mini course started but uh
wednesday thursday baby so i'm just you live you live like the i feel like you actually live the
blue mountain state life where you really just like State life where you really just hang out and play football.
Yeah, just getting –
the goal right now is obviously just getting good grades.
But on top of that, just in my off time,
being really, really, really good at punting.
You are really, really good at punting.
Are you also really, really good at Fortnite?
Not anymore.
It used to be freshman, sophomore year.
What happened?
I put some hours into that unhealthily, but I got back to reality.
Yeah, we used to have tournaments and stuff with dudes on the team,
and we'd have fun with that stuff.
I'm more of a FIFA guy now. FIFA? Yeah, I like Ultimate Team stuff but i'm more of a fifa guy now i like i like ultimate team
i had a few of stretch we i've killed i feel like we played that a lot in high school
we did play a lot of fifa i was never very good but yeah i was yeah not great but not the worst
i'm a big nba i'm a big nba 2k guy anybody i don't care who it is i will beat anybody in nba 2k
yeah just because i'm a hooper myself a lot of mlb too oh yeah we play that yeah the show
yeah i do uh what's it called like diamond dynasty or whatever me my dad got me and my
brother through quarantine oh yeah like we just we just played that all the time. Now, did you ever play MVP Baseball 2005 with Manny Ramirez on the cover?
Oh, God.
Was that on, like, the PS2?
Yeah.
Yeah, I definitely played it.
Yeah.
I think it was on the Cubs just hitting bombs.
Oh, man.
I actually think the PS2 might have been the best, like, one of the best.
Best system of all time. Hands down. Yeah, no question. I'm an Xbox guy, but, like, PS PS2 might have been the best. One of the best. Best system of all time.
Hands down.
I'm an Xbox guy, but PS2 was the best.
It was unreal.
I mean, N64 is definitely up there, too.
Also great.
Playing Mario Kart back in the day was unbelievable.
Smash Bros.
Oh, gee.
Smash Bros.
Oh, my God.
Smash Bros.
Mario Kart.
Me and my brother would play FIFA 98.
I love it.
That was the game.
It was so incredible.
That was the game.
It was like a square on the screen.
Yeah.
I'm telling you, it was so good.
NFL Blitz, where you just started pounding people into the ground.
Oh, dude, you could do pass interference every play,
and they wouldn't even call it.
No, it was the best.
I would just drill people constantly. That was the best oh my god and uh nba street too
they ever do mlb slug nba street and it was like blitz but baseball i don't think i ever played
slug fest interesting game try it out check it out i out. They don't make it anymore, but, you know. I'll go try.
Oh, man.
All right, so you're going into your bye weekend.
You heading home for the weekend?
Yeah, so tomorrow we have practice.
I'm going to go home for a day.
Just get to see my family.
I haven't seen my family in a long time i haven't
been back to columbus a long time but i mean there's not a whole lot of great things back
there so yeah um other than my family so no i'm looking forward to that this week i get to see my
brother see nephew get to hang out maybe hit the links we'll see um love that it'll be pretty fun um i i was i was told that you might have played
36 holes on one of your last off days true or false that is no i didn't play 36 36 that's a lot
that's too taxing on the body yeah Yeah. And usually when I just get frustrated,
because golf's supposed to be like a stressor.
Usually when I get frustrated, I'm like,
all right, well, this just became a stressor.
So I'm going to go home.
I'm usually frustrated by like hole three, to be honest.
So, yeah.
Yeah, that's, no.
No, 36 was too many.
Way too many.
Way too many.
I did 18 for the first time when went to buffalo incredible golfer if like you like didn't see me at all you'd think i was tired woods
um i think i'm becoming a professional golfer now i've got eligibility left get my grades up i'll go
to michigan and play some golf with you brad yeah come on now figure that out i'm trying to stretch
it i'll stretch it to 10 years. Let's go.
A whole decade of college. Coach, I need three medical red shirts.
Just come out of nowhere, please.
If we could do that.
That's crazy.
Yeah.
I'm just thinking about it.
So, 2017.
Man, 2017 offseason.
Going into 2018.
Get hurt.
2018, 2019, out because hurt 2020 start 2021 start 2022 start
but the 2020 year doesn't count because of covid i guess right right right so then you get one more
that's true yeah that's gonna be uh yeah i don't know we'll see who knows did you actually this is a real question i'm looking at my
uh little um poster up here of the stadium when you started did we have green end zones
oh yes yep
yeah we definitely have michigan football i think you definitely have to come back next year
so that you can go through new end zones and scoreboards.
Yeah.
Well, my first start in the big house was against Michigan State.
I think it was like mid-October.
The game?
Yeah, it was like a monsoon.
Oh, yeah, 2018?
Yeah. No, 2017. Oh, yeah. 2018? Yeah. No, 2017.
2017, yeah.
No, actually, yeah, it was pretty good.
Big John O'Connor fan.
Yeah, it was...
John
Con...
You're so annoying.
Nobody gets that.
Okay, sorry.
I know, me, you, and Nate. Hopefully Nate's listening.
Sorry I love Michigan football.
I know you want me to do.
There you go.
I don't want you to do anything.
You can see, I just noticed this.
You guys see the orange thing dangling in the background right here?
Yeah.
What is that?
That's actually, we got a new field goal post this year.
Oh, you got that little flag.
Are those the flags?
Yeah, dude, these flags
are huge. I was going to say, that thing
is kind of giant. No, it's
like
at least four feet.
Like, they look so...
I thought it was just Halloween decorations.
Maybe three feet.
It's like probably three and a half.
That's about half your door.
Yeah, for sure. I mean, goalposts are big, too. It's like probably three and a half. That's about half your door. Yeah. No, it's huge.
I mean, goal posts are big too.
I don't think people realize how big goal posts are.
Tennessee fans do.
Go Vols.
That's true.
Yeah, that is true.
That's true.
They're pretty easy to carry, I guess.
Yeah, when you have the entire city carrying them.
I was trying to think about it when I was watching that too.
Like I never went towards the goalposts after the Ohio state game.
Do they have people guarding them?
I can't remember.
Oh,
I think they had people like a circle of like guards around them.
I think no.
Cause bro,
I think we were going to go towards the goalposts and I was like,
no,
there's people around that.
We can't go. They shouldn't, they should just let it happen. Like, I mean, Oh, bro, I think we were going to go towards the goalpost. And I was like, no, there's people around that. We can't go.
They should just let it happen.
Like, I mean, you know.
Great for the atmosphere.
Great for the team bonding, the fan bonding.
I did think it was a little bit soft of Tennessee.
The video of the president was like, we'll do this every year,
no matter how much it costs.
They started to go funny.
Yeah, then they started to go funny.
So you can't say both of those.
You know what I mean?
That's like when we all go to the bar and I'm like,
guys, don't worry.
I got the next round next morning.
I'm like, hey, can you guys help me out here?
That's exactly what that was.
That is exactly what that was.
The media team definitely wasn't on the same page, that's for sure.
No. Just tweet that out yeah um yeah i it did that looked like an absolute riot i i was talking to um i was
talking to mike morris and chris jenkins today about the ohio state game last year and mike mo
was like it was literally a it was project x he was like
that whole day like it was he was like saying like i'm on the pursuit of half it was it was like it
just felt like that moment like for where it's just like slow-mo blurred like everything it was
perfect yeah no i'd completely agree with that. Obviously, especially in the second half,
just because I got my punting out of the way in the first half.
That's true.
I got two punts in the first half,
and the entire second half was just kind of obviously staying locked in,
but really taking in that atmosphere was pretty unbelievable.
That last PAT we had, we knew we were going to win,
and I just kind of walked out onto the field
for the pat and just like looked around the stands i was like this place is going to go
absolutely berserk in about you know like four minutes or whatever it was yeah i guess it's
going to be awesome you know but uh for sure just like the build-up from 2017 to 2022 or 2021
and now 2022 but to 2021 obviously like that build-up of just like
completely flipping the culture flipping the leadership style flipping like the entire like
just atmosphere um within shem beckler hall and then producing how we produce
then and currently it's just like that it's the most relieving feeling of all time yeah
oh i bet because you you heard it from the day you were a freshman until last year right like
oh they like michigan football like you know they can't beat ohio state can't with big 10
yada yada yada i'm blue wdw die you know like people are saying shit. And you now, like regardless of kind of what happens this season,
I mean, obviously as you're playing really well,
and I'm expecting like big things almost to repeat last year,
when you're done playing Michigan football and hopefully Michigan keeps,
you know, kind of going on this run, you can kind of be like, yeah,
I was on the team that started that.
Like we started that movement to get, you know, kind of going on this run, you can kind of be like, yeah, I was on the team that started that. Like, we started that movement to get, you know,
to kind of flip the switch and shim, kind of like you just said,
and just get things going in the right direction.
It's so cool.
Yeah.
You had to have felt, too, like that, like – sorry.
You had to have felt like the – like 2017 to 2022 or 2021, like you said,
like everything led up to that moment of that Ohio State game.
And, like, you walking out there for that final PAT,
like that had to have just been like – I almost wonder, like, okay,
if this were actually a movie, it would have done, like, the flashback rewind of, like, you know, going back to all those, like, you know, maybe not so great moments and then, like, building up.
And then the movie would have, like, you know, refast forwarded to that.
Just, like, unreal.
Unreal.
Yeah.
I mean, kind of like I was telling you off screen.
It's like, you know,
talk doesn't really get you anywhere when playing, like,
at the highest stage of football, right?
Okay.
You brought up talk.
I'm sorry.
I don't know if you guys talked about this before we got on here,
but what happened in the tunnel against Penn State?
You got any insight on that?
I heard you were slinging PB&Js back there.
Yeah.
Oh, man, I was dodging them.
Ducking and weaving
and getting out of there.
Just throw the bloody big guys
going.
I was just using the big dudes as shields.
I had my hand on their back
like charging.
Just keep taking the PB&Js.
You ever see
the movie 300 when they all
like kind of get yeah arrows are coming that's how it was with pb and jay just imagine the movie 300
but instead of arrows our pb and jay block out the sun yeah that is that is the best thing i've ever heard no i think i think it was kind of overblown though
like for the most part i don't know who was in the back of their line but they started saying stuff
and i couldn't really hear a whole lot of what was going on other than just like you guys aren't
gonna score and then yeah and then everybody just started yelling like there's
no words that like i could not make out any word after that it was just like them i'll just never
forget when uh i can't remember who we were talking to it might have been it might have been
you when we're talking about after the ohio state game and uh we're talking about like the uh the
the tunnel scrum or whatever and somebody was like like, yeah, I don't know what happened.
I just remember hearing the Stardust just start making animal noises out of nowhere.
Like, I wasn't even saying anything.
He was just making noise.
Yeah, there were dudes definitely barking.
Just going, woo, woo, woo, woo, woo, woo.
Just for like four months.
And like, yeah, I don't know. what a great go-to though
i was just trying to get into the locker room man like i was just trying to like go sit down
for a few seconds you're just like i don't like it i just want to chill for a second
my my favorite i'd use the bathroom right they were like i was like go i was like go in your
locker room let us go come. That was my favorite part.
James Franklin talking about
what's up with you?
Were you yelling too loud, Brad?
He was just like, stop talking to us.
Stop talking to us.
I don't know.
He was not doing exactly
what he was trying to say.
If he would have just went into the locker room,
then it would have like de-escalated quicker.
I don't know.
It was probably just like frustration as a whole.
Like everybody, like the goal was everybody wanted to get into the locker room
except for like the back half of their players
and then like the people who moved up to the front to talk to them.
Like Amar players, right?
Yeah. Like everybody else was like, dude dude let's go in the locker room like we got another half of football like just relax it's not that big a deal yeah there's a lot of talk
like it doesn't matter and i think it was khalid hill um that uh posted it on twitter today it was
like he retweeted the video of James Franklin saying the tunnel is an issue.
And he's like,
it's only an issue.
If like other teams,
like you guys have obviously gone up the tunnel a thousand times,
you know?
So it's only an,
an issue if teams come here and want to make it an issue,
essentially.
Yeah.
I mean,
you can see Penn state's like they're blocking the, like they're just not going, essentially. Right. Yeah. I mean, you can see Penn State's, like, they're blocking the,
like, they're just not going to the locker room.
Yeah.
I mean, that's fair.
It's like the other team always goes up first.
We always have refs separating us.
And, like, walking up the tunnel, like,
everybody's just standing behind the refs.
Nobody's trying to push forward.
No one's trying to do anything.
It's typically, like anything it's typically like
it's happened every time it's happened in the locker or in the tunnel that i've been in it's
always the other team that just turns around and starts talking and we're like why yeah just go
just go in the locker room i don't know maybe just wait an extra half second or something i don't
think i mean building a new tunnel and one of the greatest stadiums of all of
yeah there's no chance sports is yeah it's just i don't know it is there's no chance but um all
right but i've got another question here um we won't go too deep into this because we're we're
pre-msu game obviously but you do have an upside down profile picture um so gotta gotta talk about it what did you guys
like i mean obviously people noticed it but like was everyone kind of just like laughing about that
because it wasn't it was like to me it was like more stupid than it was like insulting right yeah uh i mean i they it was deleted before anybody really saw it i think
yeah we just i mean we just like kind of heard about it when i saw it and i just thought it was
like i thought it was funny that the entire like the michigan culture right not the team culture
just like the family culture yeah Yeah. It's so funny.
And, like, I love following, like, stuff they say and the stuff they do on Twitter.
And then, like, yeah, if I turn my profile picture upside down and fans think it's hilarious, like, why not?
Like, you guys are just, like, the culture and the fan base is kind of setting that tone of just, like, you know, what's going on.
Yeah.
It wasn't, like, anything serious or anything. It was, like, you know, beat going on yeah i wasn't like anything serious or anything
just like you know beat me and i was like yeah people are turning the prop up yeah yeah this is
funny yeah that's pretty funny i'll get in on it and then the week after next it'll be flipped
right side up like beautiful also um blew out we in on the blue out uh yeah yeah i think i don't know i i mean like i said you guys
kind of set that tone i don't know who it was it was probably you know some probably me yes it was
i'm going to tell one of you guys are swanky or is any of those guys you know probably swanky
yeah gotta give some credit i mean i'm about it there's the maze rage started it. Any insight to the uniforms?
Maybe some blue?
Maybe some white?
Maybe some black?
I don't know exactly.
But there will be some
players beside that.
Oh, really?
Our leadership group decides that
and talks about it.
I trust in the same restore right now.
Yeah.
When we had,
we had the maze out,
like,
why would we wear maze?
That makes no sense.
Like our quarterbacks can't see any receivers.
Right.
So like the entire fan base was like,
fair.
You should use,
you should wear a maze.
Like,
this is stupid.
And it's like,
like JJ can't see anybody down the field.
Why is he throwing it into the stands?
I don't get it.
Come back closer to the computer.
So that was part of, like, last year against Penn State,
we were trying to wear Maze uniforms in their whiteout.
Yeah.
And they – I don't know what happened.
We were, like, practicing in Maze.
And apparently they – like, I think their athletic department has to approve.
James Franklin being a loser.
I don't know.
I think it's the department.
But we ended up having to switch.
Well, that's why we went.
Red Robin for president.
That's why we went Mays accessories, though.
So the quarterbacks can see.
So is that why you guys did white accessories for the last game?
I feel like somebody was trying to start that rumor on Twitter,
but it might have just been bullshit.
For the Maze?
For Penn State.
I thought it was that you did white.
Well, A, it's probably because you guys think it looks cool,
but B, white gloves on a white jersey, you know, like grabbing stuff,
not getting called for holding, that type of stuff.
Yeah, I mean, that's kind of just common knowledge in the NFL.
Yeah.
I've seen a couple clips of guys and heard stories of guys who,
like in the NFL specifically, who wore different colored gloves than everybody else
even though everybody like say the jerseys of their opponents were white right so like the
entire db or linebacker or anybody was like wearing all those guys were wearing white gloves
except for one guy who decided to like be fancy and wear like orange right and then he gets called
genius move no that he gets called for holding well no not that guy the other
guy yeah
right
but I've heard stories about that it's just kind of like a
footballism
you know the worst
the worst gloves in
the NFL are the commanders when they
wear yellow gloves and then it just looks
like a flag is thrown every time
I'll have to talk to my boy cheeseman about it yeah
i was doing he fate i gotta facetime him back he facetimed me today but i was busy
dang you're big time in them wow i'm not big time in cheese man you're like dude i'm going
for the triple crown i don't know who you think you are but i don't have time for you right now
can't big time for you right now. Can't big-time Cheddar, man. Love it.
He's got to be the only long snapper to ever forego a season and enter the draft early.
Yeah, we talked about that the other day in our specialist room.
I was like, you could not name any long snapper who's opted out of a season
and got drafted besides Cheatman.
Also, which is incredible, first of all.
But, like, I mean, obviously it works out for him.
But, like, I don't know.
He must have – I'm assuming he was talking to agents and stuff like that.
But, like, what – as a – well, now that I'm saying this
and Willie Wags is not doing so great, this makes more sense.
But, like, I was going to say, like like the downside as a long snapper of um you know is
the the chances of getting hurt as a long snapper a lot less of like if you're you know a stark
quarterback that you know opts out you know what i mean yeah no for sure but yeah i don't know i
don't know what the like Game time decision was for him
Where he was just like yeah I'm opting out
But it worked out for him
I was going to say you can't knock it
Because he's doing well
He's doing well
He also scored like 98th percentile
On his dental exam
He got into Michigan dental school
No he did not
I lived with him for a year
I lived with him for a year I thought he i lived with him for a year i don't
know i thought he was saying wags i'm like no i thought he was an engineer he is an engineer
yeah no uh cheese it was either like 96 or like 98 percentile on his like dat oh my god i
imagine imagine like hey my first choice for a career is being in the NFL.
My second choice is being a dentist.
Yeah, that's pretty wild.
Well, what's – It's the perfect name for it, too.
The slogan would have been –
What's your background?
You know, like –
So true.
What are you studying?
What's your go-to?
We already talked about this.
I'm asking again.
Sorry.
Sports psychology.
I want to work kickers, punters, pitchers, quarterbacks.
You only analyze athletes?
Tennis players.
I would like to work in the athletic side.
If Kalen or I, you wanted to analyze an athlete, you'd talk to us.
What about podcasters?
I don't know.
Only athletes.
I don't know if you understand how stressful our job is here.
I don't know if you understand how stressful our job is here. My job is very stressful that I have to deal with fucking Jack every day.
It's not that I don't understand that.
It's so boring if I'm so funny all the time.
Sorry.
I could refer you to somebody.
It sounds like you guys need couples therapy right now.
That's a definite. All right. We're going to guys need couples therapy right now.
All right. We're going to move on. All right. Well, okay. I guess I want to, I want to go back to talking about like this season versus last season. I know you don't
like to compare, but I want to talk about like the force you to anyway. Yeah, basically. No,
I think it's kind of interesting just
because of the fact of like you talked about the mindset where like you guys weren't even ranked
coming into the year last year whereas you played pretty much every game in the top five this year
right and so like you know everyone's coming to get you where like last year nobody like
respected you until like you know week eight or something like that right if you where like last year nobody like respected you until like you know week
eight or something like that right if you play like one more time i swear to god i'm gonna blow
my brains out anyway brad go ahead is there a way that i can just mute you i think you can
you started this you can perfect that is the podcast is so much better now um but
he's still talking
um but like i guess how does that change the changed the approach to everyday stuff?
Is there any difference in how you guys have approached it,
knowing that people are coming out to get you
and you're the reigning champs and all that stuff?
Or is it all kind of the same?
I mean, the way I've thought about it ever since I immersed myself
in the Michigan culture back in the day, is we are – sorry.
I don't know why my mic –
I don't know either.
I mean, I'm like right on it.
So, no, I don't know why – okay, what was I saying?
Yeah, thinking – like immersing myself into the culture, right?
Thinking about how we are viewed as a michigan
team and i think we are quite literally like the super villains of college football like we're
going to get everybody's best game nobody really likes us other than our own fan base and sometimes
our own fan base doesn't even like it like like you know what i mean like we are fan base that's for sure like i know there's no no knock on our fan base or anything like
they do a really good job and obviously they do love us like i was kind of tugging cheat there but
just thinking about like we are the super villains of college football like we are going to get
everybody's best game um and we kind of you know know, came up by surprise last year, right.
Being unranked and then winning the championship.
But understanding this year, going into this year,
like we have a huge target on our back on all phases in the game.
Well, have you, have you guys say you're,
you're the super villains of college football.
Is that like just something that like kind of you personally think, or is that something you guys talk about're the supervillains of college football. Is that just something that you personally think,
or is that something you guys talk about in the locker room?
That's what I think personally.
Okay.
But I kind of push that narrative on people, if that makes sense.
I like it.
It's like you've got to understand, yeah, we're Michigan.
Leaders invest.
A lot of people don't like that uh especially not you know school in
east lansing and especially not the school in columbus right um doesn't matter the record
we're gonna get their best game they're gonna get our best game and that's with every team at this
point like we're getting everybody's best game so if if you don't show up, you are going to pay for it.
And that's just the way it is.
And I think the more adversity that we go through in the offseason,
which we pride ourselves in putting ourselves in situations
that make us really uncomfortable and putting us in situations
that we don't want to be in and thriving in those situations.
And that always shows up on game day.
You know, whether we like it or not or whether we plan for it or not. And really all that boils down to is like knowing you can trust
the guy next to you, knowing that he's going to do his job, you know, knowing that he has
put his heart and soul into this thing. Right. And I feel like the more adversity we go through
throughout the game, the more we are going to come out I feel like the more adversity we go through throughout the game,
the more we are going to come out on top
and the more we are going to thrive in those conditions.
And that kind of started after the 2020 season.
But you can see it, like Penn State last year, Ohio State last year,
Iowa game, all that kind of stuff, right?
The more the conditions got tough and the more stuff sucked the more we came out on top that was just that's how it's going to be and that's what we've
really tried to embed into this culture i love it i mean i think it's uh you know it's it's kind
of like the to be the best you got to beat the best right and so like you know, it's kind of like to be the best,
you got to be the best, right?
And so, like, you know, you might as well,
if you want to be at the top and stay at the top,
you're going to take on this supervillain, you know, story, right?
And you're going to be those people.
It doesn't, you know, there are very few teams out there
that have continued success that, like out of nowhere right or are like
the underdogs right like for the most part you got especially with the brand that Michigan has
like you're always gonna be even when maybe you know you're not at the top you're still
you know put at the top kind of right you. You know, you're still, you still have that target on your back, so you might as well just embrace it.
So I love it.
Yeah. I mean, it's just, it's easy for people to hate Michigan.
It's just really, I see it everywhere on social media.
You know, no matter TikTok, Twitter, whatever.
It's just like, if anybody praises Michigan,
I can guarantee you there are a 100 to 200 people in the comments.
Man, screw these guys.
They're not what they say they are.
Like these guys are the worst.
All that kind of stuff, which, you know, I love it.
I enjoy it.
Yeah.
So then like this year, you've probably seen it with like, oh, Michigan schedule is trash.
Like, you know, and people are talking about how
penn state was going to expose you guys and all this stuff and blah blah blah like i mean is that
something that like that that really stokes that fire as well now this year for me personally yeah
um you know those are the uh proverbial pb and j's being thrown at us, right? Like, keep those things coming, man.
Just understanding, like, talk doesn't get it done.
As, you know, I'll say it a billion times.
And I'm not just referring to, like, Penn State game, right?
But I'm referring to just in general.
Like, talk does not get stuff done.
You have to perform when your number's called.
You have to be ready for every situation ever.
Like you have to prep for everything.
So I talk to part of my research and part of like what I want to do to become a better punter, right, is talk to people who are kind of in similar situations, but in different professions, if that makes sense so um i actually talked to
like members of like the infantry in the army who are like marksmen like snipers yeah i'm just
talking about their um kind of training and environmental uh considerations when thinking
about taking shots obviously because that's what essentially me and moody are are marksmen like you got to be at you get one shot you got to be accurate you got to hit
your target like you got to be perfect um so i'm sure guys on the team are finding you know these
kind of niche like the jobs that they have are finding people who have similar jobs but different
professions right and picking their brain um so i've been talking to there's a guy who actually
works with uh pga players a swing coach um so i've been talking with like a couple pga like
swing coaches just to talk about the tempo and like timing and rhythm and what to think and when
to think about it and how to think about it uh their sports psychologist obviously that just kind of works on like the brain um snipers
i think i love that a huge thing i mean i gained i gained some knowledge from them that is just like
man it's a different breed yeah yeah it's just like yeah i can't believe more did you talk to
some people at the uh national guard about that uh so it wasn't people at the national guard um no it was it was but it
wasn't when we were there okay um he can't tell you who he talked to yeah i can tell you but i
have to kill you they're outside my house right now. Always listening.
I can't speak.
Always, yeah.
They got this place bugged.
Can't say too much.
But, yeah.
No, they came to Shem before they deployed and talked to us right before we went to Iowa, I think.
Oh, yeah.
Cool.
No, I mean, I think that, you're spot on with it and you know,
that's, it's, it's cool because a specifically for you,
like you and Moody, you know, although you have your, your unit, right.
Like you're full ops, right. Like that whole thing,
but you're still very much alone when you, you know,
when you're performing, right?
And so it's definitely different.
It's an odd piece of things inside this giant team game, right?
But, no, I love that.
I mean, it's been fun to watch you guys and shit,
best special teams in the freaking country,
and that's like not a debate at all.
And a lot of that's just credit to how serious we take it, right,
with the chip on our shoulder.
We were that way last year.
And understanding, like, again, this year,
every team is going to do something to try to throw us off
or every team is going to try something new that we haven't seen right and being able to prep for those situations having the best uh like scout
team essentially scout team and people who prep the scout team um and understanding these different
situations that might occur and then going through them again and again and again and again so then
when that one thing does happen that maybe
we didn't expect it's like okay well we've already done it a hundred times so you know good luck
um but yeah so there's there's a lot of guys in the team's world who just
take that stuff seriously man we got a good core group of guys uh and definitely some good
specialists you know um one question i'll wrap up. This will be the last question too,
because I was talking to Chris and Mike today.
Okay, so it's a bye week.
And I'm sure this happens even more than the bye week,
but definitely on a bye week
where the coaches are out recruiting, right?
And so then like a lot of your stuff is player led, right?
Is what they were telling me. And so like, how, you know,
how is that as obviously you're a leader and, and, you know,
one of the vets of this program and there's a lot of other guys I'm sure that
are, are in there as leaders too,
but what are those player led type things like for you guys?
And, you know, is it a big downgrade when the coach is not there?
Or do you guys really step it up and, like, act like business as usual?
I think it's just as good and maybe even more fun.
Wow.
If that makes sense.
It's just – I don't know.
It's just a really good environment to be in. Like, practice yesterday and like towards the end of our practice they have opportunity
practice for the younger guys right um yeah i wish i could have film of it but i can't but
we uh you know the younger guys are going crazy we had a dude run essentially like a sweep and um
had nothing right it was about to get it was about to get just absolutely eaten up by the defense.
And he just cut back, had absolutely nothing, just cut back,
outran like some of the young guys, dove for a pile on and scored.
And like all of literally the entire like first team, second team offense,
we grabbed like the boards that they have like the logos for
and grabbed like chairs and we're just like partying in the end zone.
Like for like five minutes.
It's so good.
Yeah.
We have a lot of fun.
Like I had a big F board that just had like,
you know,
when you get a grade back,
I don't get Fs,
but if you get a grade back and it has,
it has an F.
Oh yeah.
They essentially have that like, that went all too well i don't even know what it is but they have that on the board so i was
holding that up for the defense like because they because they took the l and like the
got that basically uh roman roman had like a dukeing. He is pretty funny.
Ronnie had a chair, just started beating people with a chair.
I do.
The chairs have lived on to 2022, which I loved.
There might need to be a shirt that comes out that just says,
raise the chairs now.
So every time we score, raise the chairs.
Chill, chill.
Let's go.
All right, we'll end it on that.
Hey, I'm just – I love how much fun you guys have, you know,
and it's not like – you know, I think that from what I've heard from you
and a lot of other guys is, like, you know,
you do a really good balance of how serious you are
and you you guys
are so motivated but you're making sure that this is the best moment of your lives and you're gonna
make sure that you know that too so i'm pretty pumped about it but i mean college is just
it's environment you only get to do it once right and it's just such a ball environment
yeah and you get to live with dudes that you're playing with you get to have like it's literally like the least amount of responsibility
you'll ever have in life and the most amount of like i guess like freedom and like becoming
yourself and like learning what to do and how to conduct your business it's just like i don't know
there's just a lot of guys who you know if they didn't come here and didn't immerse themselves
in this culture i don't know where they would be a lot of guys who if they didn't come here and didn't immerse themselves in this culture, I don't know where
they would be.
Be right back, going back to college.
I'm so ready.
Do you guys need, do you have an extra bedroom?
I'm in.
Oh, yeah.
You got an air mattress.
Perfect, perfect.
I'm in.
I think Moody's got a king size.
You can cuddle up with him.
We can snuggle with Moody.
King size.
He would probably kick the shit out of me.
It's a king size bed.
What a dickhead.
Probably NIL.
Who knows?
I like king size bed too.
Alright man.
