How are your guys' golf game? Terrible.

Terrible? Yeah, I don't know. You can't swing it, just put putt? Yeah, just putt. And if anything looks like your baseball swing from the softball game you were at last month for my foundation, I don't know. Tiger wish he could.

Tiger would it? Tiger wish he could. Tiger wish he could. Okay. We don't have any clubs out here. I'd say we can go try it out. Let me have a little more serious question, but the standard that Coach Witt has brought over these last seven, eight months,

how would you describe that? And what are you guys looking forward to most in the season? Just the best is the standard. You know, the standard is the standard of Michigan. We just trying to get back to what we know Michigan can be and will be. Just, you know what I'm saying? Just hard work.

Just put your head down and work. You know, he came from Utah and he's not expecting anything less coming to Michigan. He just holding us accountable. He wants the teammates to hold everybody else. accountable if you're a leader be a leader. It doesn't matter if you're freshman, senior. He wants everybody to be a leader. You know what I'm saying? You got to start as a leader to yourself first and foremost and just pick up everybody up and just push everybody to be their best. Yep, yep. Same thing that same thing that like J. Y said, you know like the standard is always

going to be a standard. Everybody has to do their 11th. There's been a major accountability standard now and everybody accountable for the 11th right there's no slacken there's no days off you come into sanball locker hall you know you're going out to work you know you're going out to put best foot forward and if you do that then michigan will pay you dividends yeah so and jordan talked about being a leader you had talked about previously being a leader and wanting to step up into a kind of a new leadership role what does that look like for you and what would you say your your leadership style is yeah most definitely um i would say i'm uh lead by example type of leader, but obviously being a linebacker, you also have to be a vocal leader as well, right,

making sure that if somebody's not where they're supposed to be or if they're not doing the right assignment that you have to speak and say, hey, I think you should do it this way. And I also think something that's really important is the tone and, like, the way you do say as well, because, you know, everybody's from a whole different place. So how you say one thing to one guy might not be what it seems for you to be saying. So just, just knowing. Just knowing. each and every one of your teammates and just knowing what gets them going, you know, because everybody has their odd days, everybody has their own days. So just knowing what gets guys going, that really helps as well. And how do you do that? Because like you said, there's guys,

I think the beauty of a football team is there's so many different walks of life, people from the cities, people from the East Coast, the West Coast, the South, people from the country. How do you, as a leader on the team, how do you try and, not corral, but how do you get all those guys on the same page with the same message, but I guess relaying it in a different way to those different types of people. Yeah, great question. I think a big thing is just taking time out your day to talk these guys, right? Obviously, there's, you know, there's free time to go in the locker room. There's, you know, there's free times like before games, you know, just to eat lunch with guys, eat dinners. So just take your time out your day to talk to the guys, you know,

get to know where they're from, getting to know what they're like, what do they like, what they dislike, you know, and all these things help to, you know, know how you can talk to different guys from all different walks of life, as you mentioned. I love it. Jordan, you initially entered the transfer portal, right? Yes, sir. And similar to Jake, Guanera, he went into the transfer portal, came back. You obviously came back. What was the, I guess, the deciding factor to come back to a place like Michigan

when you had different options? You know, you never come to Michigan to leave. So if there was things that could have been worked out for me to stay, I was going to stay. I never wanted to leave. The coaches came in contact with me. You know, we, I think our state use coach was like one of the last people that got hired. So it was just like a big question mark there. So once we got him signed and I got the being communication with him in the D.C.,

I liked everything I was hearing and I was just right on board ever since then. Yeah. Like you said, when I mean, when I came to Michigan and played here, we didn't have the transfer portal. So we had to sit out a year. But there were times where I was like, man, I don't know if this place was for me. but I always had it in my mind, like, I want to stay in Michigan. I want to be here. Yes, sir.

And if you can find a way to stay at a place like this, I think it'll pay dividends in life. No doubt. So leading up to this to camp starts August 4th, I think, next week. What have you guys been doing in the summer to get ready for the season for the football field, but then also ways to spend some of your NIL money or gain some experiences that once the football season starts, it kind of is football only? We've been doing a lot of running. A lot of running way more than we did last year.

A lot of conditioning. A lot of heavy lifting. Not necessarily heavy lifting, but more speed, speed lifting. Speed mechanics, getting with the guys more because the coaches have been on with their vacation. So it's just been us with each other. So we see one of our teammates tired just speaking up. Like, let's go. You know, this is what we signed up for.

We make this look easy. It's going to be even easier in the game. Just stuff like that. just being more like a player-led team, a bit more a team, team bonding situation, stuff like that. Yeah, same thing that, you know, like Jay-W has said, you know, like just making sure that this team is a player-led team because all great teams are player-led, you know,

they're not led by coaches. And really off the field, just going from internships to, you know, like to internship, knowing how life is after football, because, like, you can only play the game for so long. And then after the game, that's when you have to really, you know, kick in all the intangibles to make them tangibles. So, yeah. I guess team-wise and personally for both of you guys, what are your expectations for the season? So I would say for myself, team-wise, is to go undefeated.

But to do that, we had to win day one of all camp. We have to attack it. You know, my model is 1% each and every day. And when you win that 1% every day, once the season comes, it's going to be easy. And then for myself, first team, Big Ten, that's my main goal, and that's what I'm going for. Like you say, you've got to win a day every day. You know, we don't get days back, so we've got to win each day every day. I say for myself, for the team, national championship, of course.

So in order to do that, we've got to win the Big Ten. So we got to run through the Big Ten this year, then in our business in the college football playoffs, and then the Natty. But this year, I say we should definitely take one time. Don't look past any opponents this year, just one week at a time, one game at a time, and everything should be cool. For myself, I'll say all Big Ten, I want to lead the team in turnovers this year. and just do whatever the team needs me to do, which is special teams, just anything. I'm just ready to put myself out there this year. I love it.

Two young players who are, I'm excited for you, too, to take that next big step into becoming the players that we all know you guys can be. I called you last year a bona fide star, maybe halfway through the season. You had probably one of the best, if not the best freshman wide receiver years, stats-wise, in Michigan history. What do you have to do to continue to ascend, to continue to get better, and to continue to follow up from last year? Yes, sir. First off, I appreciate that. And second, I would say really just being able to keep going, every day. That's one thing I kind of always say, just keep going no matter what's going on off the field,

on the field, or really whatever is going on in life, just being able to keep going every day, get better every day, come in and work, do what I was supposed to do, and get to the next one. That's a beautiful mindset. Obviously, you and Bryce have this, I would say, incredible chemistry connection. What have you guys done this off-season to continue to build on that chemistry and to make sure that both of you guys take that next big jump going into year two. I would say just work. We spent a lot of time together traveling, training in different places, working out.

But really just aside from just us, really just getting everybody, bringing everybody along. So trying to work out with the whole receiver group as much as we can, the tight-ins, the running backs, kind of just incorporate everybody we can, get different types of work and stuff like that. And you talked about bringing those other guys along. There's obviously Celessi, JJ, and Jamie are all played in college football, but now are transferred into Michigan. How was that bond kind of grown from when they got here during spring ball to now? I feel like it's been great.

Really just to see them come in, pick up new systems, kind of get adjusted to everything. And really, my job, I've kind of just been here trying to make sure that they have a new transition and make sure that they're getting with those guys that they need to get with and understanding everything and stuff like that. because at the end of the day, they're only going to help us in the long run. And I feel like all three of those guys can make an impact on the plays. And then talking about that new system with Coach Beck, what have you seen from him in Springball and in this offseason

that you are really excited for in terms of the plays that he's creating, the schemes that he's drawn up for you specifically? I'm excited. Him coming in, I've loved everything that he's done so far, along with the offense and the scheme. I feel like it's really easy. A lot of the guys feel like it's easy, and it translates well. I feel like we have a lot of freedom within the offense and really a lot of freedom to get open.

So I'm excited for this year and what's going to come out of it. Yeah. One last question. How's your golf game? My golf game's all right. I've been not too bad today. A little rusty, but been getting better? Yeah, make good contact.

All we're back here at the champion circle golf outing I got, the one, the only brailing out of the one, words Michigan legend mission Michigan lore Michigan whatever you want to call you are you are the guy when it comes to to being a Michigan football player want to talk about I'll say yourself short man had a lot of fun watch you second those quarterbacks Chris no I want to talk about our guy Andrew Marsh there we got Andrew Marsh holy cow I just saw him out here mossing people on the court I talked to him five minutes ago 10 minutes ago when you look at him in this season he had as a freshman I don't want to make comparables or compare him to someone like you but what do you see from him

that over the next two, three years and transcend him into a guy like you. No, that's fair. You know, I just look at him as his rookie year last year, excuse me, his freshman year last year, just confidence, confidence in the ability and how he played and things he can do, the athleticism. You can see it. I get jumped on on tape. It's almost one of those things where you're starting to ask those questions once you

see him like, where was this guy early on in season, man? But I like his potential to get better because I think some people can be the big ride receiver and be the jumpball guy. Some people are the slot receiver, some people are the end and out guy. Some people are the Rott Runners. Some guys are, you know, they short-handed third-down guys. More you watch him, I think he has ability to do a lot of that. And he's exciting to watch.

It doesn't lack confidence, man. I think this year, I really want to see him take a step forward because I think he's a talent and a fun and enjoyed watch. And the receivers that they brought in, too, J.J. Buchanan. Celessi Moa, Jamie French from Texas. Jay J.J. is over here, actually. He's golfing with us. He's made three birdie plus for us, too, by the way. Shout, JJ.

And we bring guys like that in, too. I feel like that allows maybe March to open up the field even more for him than that was last year. What do you see from the receiver group as a whole that is like, okay, this could be maybe last year they didn't rely on the receivers as much. Yeah. That's a group that's like, okay, we can rely on these guys to get us those big third down catches. They can catch those over the time. Get those possession catches when we really need them the most. Yeah, I think realistically, I think it's just trust.

Having trust in your playmakers last year there wasn't a lot of trust with the exception of March, which came on towards the end of the season. This year you're bringing in these guys like, can and Marsh is growing into your two. You start to have different guys that you trust. That means you can get guys doing different things the whole game. You don't have to go one guy. It makes it tough for the defense. It makes it tough for the defense to key in on that guy.

It makes it tough for the defense to double coverage March. You can't necessarily do that when guys are trustworthy all throughout the skill set system. So excited to see what that looks like this year. And that's what's been talked about. I'm excited to watch. And when we talk about Coach Whittingham, obviously a new coach for Michigan, but a guy who's been around a long time built an incredible program at Utah talking to you just, you know, off camera,

talking to some other players. It seems like there's a culture and a stability that's being brought back to Michigan football that. I think we really need. What have you heard from the program, some of the players, some of the coaches that gets you excited about what Coach Winningham's doing? I think the ask word is the one that you hear the most

when you come out and you talk to the players, you talk to some of the guys and staff. Some of the people that were there may know, like Ron Bellamy or some of the individuals like that. Stability. Stability is a word that comes up. It's a professional situation. you will. That's what you need here. You need that stability. I think you need guys to be able to

to have confidence in the program, have confidence in themselves and confidence in guys making decisions. So based on that, I think it's team going in the right direction. William has built that out in Utah. You see his guys, they're disillant type guys. They don't lie, not a lot of mistakes. I think that's what Michigan is trying to get back to it. I got you. I appreciate you. I appreciate you, Chris. I know you got some more golf to do. We're playing good, man. You know what I'm saying? So go blue. Appreciate you, man. Always a pleasure. Yes, sir. There's always a little bit of luck involved as far as staying healthy goes. That's the big thing with these Joe Moore offensive lines is they stay healthy.

And so obviously that's a big factor. But I think, like you said, like consistency, that's what it's going to be is every week we need to be able to run the rock and we need to be able to protect. And Coach Harding's done a great job of setting that standard from the second he came in. We knew what he expected from us and what we were going to be able to accomplish. So I think it's just going to be, you know, keep our nose on the dirt, you know, head down every week and don't get ahead of ourselves too far. Absolutely. Now, you talked about the consistency, but then also you guys have a potential six, seven starters, really. And I think that bodes well for that consistency to stay healthy. But then also talk about, even Coach Harding had talked about having, playing with six old linemen. And using that six old linemen as either the blocking tight end or really an extra alignment.

What does that do for guys like Jordan and Savian to be able to trust that there's going to be six guys out there blocking their butts off to get the job done? I think for one, for us as an offensive line, it's great having an additional one of us. I've never seen an offense that plays with six offensive line as much as much as we're going to this year. And like you said, I mean, we've had, I think we have six guys that have started a game at Michigan, at least one. And so I think with Jordan and Savion, like, at least I hope that they know that, you know, when we put six ounces of offensive linemen out on the field, like we're going to block for your four and you're going to get whatever after that. Like those are guys that fall forward. You know, you give them five.

they're going to get you seven. So I'm just excited about it, to be honest. Like I love running the football. That's where I, you know, feel like I get excited about. So, yeah, I'm just excited to see it. And Shamari, for guys like Zeke and Jair, how have they helped you kind of continue to take that next step, especially this all season and heading into fall camp,

which starts next week. What have they been able to either advice or technique or just being around? How has that helped you continue to take that next step? I really would say they really helped me a lot last year. This year, I've been more in position, more of a leader. You know, Jaya and Zika already know what to do. So, like, with me, coaches already kind of want me at a level, expect the same things for me, and everything.

When it comes to, like, training everything, they know, I know what to do, you know, always make sure I'm getting 100% effort, everything. And just do what I do normally. Just don't get my head to feel things, everything, honestly. They've been, like, the big, true big brothers to me. And where do you see? I mean, because I feel like Jay Hill's defense is so complex.

There's so many schemes, so many fronts and coverages and blitzes. How do you see him as a coordinator using you in your special talent? How do you see him using you in that multiples of defenses? I like. He loves when I get up. But, you know, I love his system. Actually, I truly do love it. Less allows me to be really showcase my skills, my stickiness, coverage.

The man to man playing the boundary, playing the field. just be able to just play like how I'm to play honestly. And then, you know, he adds in there, you know, he likes a couple of blitzes, switching it up, you know, playing high, playing low. A lot of couple of traps in there, you know, I love him. He's a really smart dude also, really smart. I love it. And last question is for Blake.

I mean, you have the frame. I feel like you have a good head on your shoulders. You have the pedigree. What's it going to be for you to take that next step to be a day one draft prospect in the next year or two? I try not to think about if I do this. What if I do that? And then you have one bad player and it can screw up your whole game. So, you know, my goal for this year is to go play free.

You know, the way I've been described was, like, from my junior year to my senior year in high school, like going from trying to get recruited to I'm committed to Michigan, you know, just trying to put people in the dirt. So that's, that's my goal for this year is just play free. You know, everybody's going to have a bad play here and there, but not letting the compound. and, you know, being a solid, you know, foundation for guys when maybe things aren't going the greatest. Like, they can look at me and be like, all right, you know, we're going to be straight. Like, let's just go keep doing it. I love it.
