All right, welcome back to Blue By 90, presented by Feldman Chevrolet of Highland.
Big size over here because Sharon Moore has been fired.
This is like, I can't even describe how worst case scenario this is.
I mean, this is just tough for us to even get out here and talk about because it's just a sad incident all around.
I think, you know, first and foremost, like,
what happened to cause the firing is very dumb and very sad in itself,
you know,
not obviously what you're looking for your head coach to be involved in,
but then what it turned into last night with the arrest and the police getting involved
and now, you know, Sharon's sitting in jail overnight is a hundred times worse.
And so I don't know.
It's hard to even describe the words or like put words to it.
but I would say, like, bottom three day for a Michigan fan, the last 24 hours.
Yeah, I mean, we talked about it before the show.
Like, we come on here, we joke around, we try to have fun, we get pissy when Michigan loses.
But, like, this isn't really our lane.
So I'm going to, you know, try to kind of honestly stay away from some of these things.
but extremely sad just for Kelly Moore and their daughters
and obviously a much lower step below that,
but the players who signed to play for him
and the staff that he built,
and it's just really disappointing, Justin,
like I don't know any other way to put it.
It's been a weird 24 hours.
It's been strange, it's been sad.
You know, I have a lot of sympathy.
and empathy for the family because you think about like his parents and his wife's
parents and everybody that knows them like this is the biggest news story of in the country
yesterday I'm sure with the way our news media cycle works like sports are a huge part of that
and our subculture in the United States and so you know it was just a really strange day like
I'm mid work mid meeting phones blown up like what's going on and then you kind of start
to piece together some of the details and um i guess i will get my thoughts though in terms of
what happened yesterday leading up to that is certainly not uh i wouldn't say a career ender
but i think what happened after the fact might be uh for chiron and and i really hope that he gets
the help that he's going to need um but yeah it's it's a really tragic story now uh that could
have had a way worse ending um yeah man i don't really know
what other words to use but very very sad and doesn't make you feel any feel good and uh yeah i mean
you know i think the the story initially was one thing but i think that the after the fact stuff
that happened just makes it a thousand times worse i didn't feel this way at five o'clock yesterday i was
like that's shocking and then when people start texting me and i you know see things start being
released from the Washington County sheriffs or whoever it was that put out the press release
that you're like it just escalated a thousand times beyond obviously that whole situation
is bad you can't do that but I think what happened after is now just it's it's even worse
yeah um yeah I mean I think you said it at the beginning too it's like I look to sports
usually and specifically Michigan sports as like an escape from the real world right and
it's like something that we can you know well let's be honest we dive in a little too deep sometimes
we're a little too invested um but uh you know it's the goal it of me watching it is is excitement is
it's my it's my passion right and it's fun and i know that for a lot of our our listeners
you guys listening out there and just fans in general like that is the case right like we
watch on saturdays because you get to escape and you get to cheer for your team and
yeah like this happening takes away from all that it is like you know it's actually bringing the
real world too much into the into our passion in sports and it just sucks and um you know i'll
like i i'll say this too like i think that um you know having coach more like a few weeks ago
we were i was thanking him for his involvement in our dream on three opportunity with luke
and he made so much of that happen.
And, you know, it just really is incredibly disappointing to now have to get on here
and talk about this situation, you know, after that.
So it just sucks.
I mean, it feels like we're talking about somebody died, which is kind of, you know, whatever.
But it is, it sucks all around when it's your program that, you know, we all rock the gear.
We rock the block M.
We're cheering for them on.
Saturdays and it does suck and I know you said it too like I feel I obviously feel terrible for
his wife and children they will never be the same for the rest of ever but to your point like
all these football players who are in the building now and you know most of them from what I gather
got the news in a team meeting yesterday the same basically that we all got it and now they have
no idea what the future holds for them i think they don't even know if they're practicing right now
or if they're going to play in a bowl game or what that looks like and so um i just feel for them
because it wasn't them at fault and they deserve better and um i you know the couple thoughts that i
have like i don't think we're breaking any news of what happened at this point right like he you know
he was in a in a relationship with a staffer um then it turned bad after that got out uh and
caused a police incident. But I'll just leave it at this. Like when you're the head coach
at the University of Michigan, you're held to a standard. You're held to a very, very high standard.
You are an incredibly public figure and you need to hold yourself in a certain manner.
And obviously, he did not do that. And that is disappointing as a supporter of the university,
as a supporter of the athletic department, season ticket holder, all that stuff.
that just really sucks and so um i just you can't be doing dumb shit like this uh and i i hope
that you know the university recognizes that and the athletic department recognizes that and
makes action you know obviously they've already taken action and firing him but you know to the
next level to ensure that whoever is leading this program in the future uh you know has
is up to that standard.
Yeah.
Yeah, to your point about being a fan
and, you know, we didn't go to the University of Michigan,
but like, and I don't want to overstate anything,
but, you know, we help do things around the program,
as minuscule as they might be, but, you know,
a month ago and we're in Chicago and took off work
and helped set up for the Champion Circle event on Friday night
in downtown Chicago or near Wrigleyville.
And so, you know, it's just,
You know, as a fan, it's really, it's disappointing.
You know, people have their vices, whatever, but, like, you have the opportunity of a lifetime.
Like, I was reading through, I was on 247 last night.
I mean, I don't know what time you went to bed, man.
I just really couldn't sleep.
It was just kind of, you know, it's one thing, you know, Michigan's fired coaches in our lives.
And it's like, whatever, you know, it's just because of performance.
But, you know, this one's obviously a little bit different.
But I just was on 247.
I was reading Steve Lorenz, who I think is one of the best in the business.
his chat and like one of the things he said is you know he's replying to a comment and he's like
had the world in your hands um and let it slip and uh yeah it's just really unfortunate
timing's really unfortunate um i don't know beyond chiron at this point what's going to happen
within the athletic department i'll let more qualified individuals handle that type of thing um
but it's i mean at this point it's been very constant scandal after scandal over the last
you know handful of years so
So I don't know what the answer is.
I don't know what the solution is going to be.
I saw that they hired, I think, a law firm or something to investigate the athletic
department independently.
Michigan did hire a third party.
So we'll be curious to see what those findings are.
But yeah, man, and just from the university perspective, it takes away from all the great
things that are happening with other athletic teams.
Basketball team number two in the country, women's basketball is in the top ten.
hockey's number one, all the success in the other sports are now on the back burner for no fault of
their own. You know, a guy like Dusty May, I mean, I'm sure he'll get questions, right? In the press
conferences, like it's, you know, even though they're different sports, they're so interconnected.
So it was just been a really disappointing 24 hours to be a fan of Michigan and its athletic programs.
But, you know, this is one of those things that I think is sometimes the price you pay in terms
of a big-time college football because, look, this is not the first time that something like
this has ever happened in terms of the act.
Maybe the fallout and the reporting on it, but there's been a coach that's been in the news
for switching schools, and a lot of things came out after the fact when he left.
And, you know, yeah, I don't know what else to say, man.
It's just a really unfortunate situation, really disappointing.
I'm a pretty upbeat, optimistic guy, like, all the time.
about me um you know i get a little fussy about michigan football but i mean i don't really have
any silver linings at this point um so i i was gonna i even you know go on and talk about like
all right where does michigan go next who does michigan hire i to me like i don't even want to have
those conversations right now like you know i think that um you know you're looking at like
going back to the players like on Tuesday the players probably said goodbye you know they left the building
they're like all right we'll see you tomorrow by wednesday night their head coach is sitting in a jail
cell you know and so like everyone's like oh they should hire kailan devore and you know i i think
they should but i don't even want to have that discussion really because of like this is the wound
is fresh the wound is wide open right now yeah um and i i i just i i think it's
just so to your point like it is such a great place like michigan is special man it's a it's a
special special place to be involved in to be a part of um and to just continue to have these black
eyes constantly um is just it's so unfortunate and um obviously like self-inflicted like i you know
there's no doubt about that like i'm not trying to deflect and say oh everyone's coming after us and
blah blah blah i think to your point
point when you are Michigan, everything, everything's blown up more than other school because
it's Michigan. But that's part of the like piece that makes it special is because it is so
important. It's so huge. It's so big. You know, it's like it's something that is, you know,
it's bigger than any person, you know, go back to go back to Bo's speech, man. Like the team at the
University of Michigan is bigger than any man right like I think that is that needs to ring true and
you know I there's just so many so many things right now that are in a row happening that just
don't make you feel good about you know throwing on that Michigan sweatshirt and walking into the
grocery store and I hate that feeling I mean I got a I just got a new dry fit Jordan
Michigan basketball hoodie, you know.
Shout out to Dusty May.
That was a, you know, I wanted to, you know, this is not necessarily a podcast that we had
planned on, on making, obviously, not just the content, but I mean like the timing,
because we probably would have waited and maybe talked about the basketball team start
and, you know, maybe talked about recruiting a little bit.
And, you know, it's like we even talk about the basketball team on this, on this one,
like, probably not.
So that's, again, it's just like,
a complete distraction from the rest of the success within the athletic department and all
the varsity teams that they're feeling. So, uh, yeah, man, I think, I don't know.
I think what's like what sucks to obviously the incident, I'm going to, I'm not trying to take
away from the incident itself because like that is an incredibly sad situation for everybody
involved, like legitimately. And that's like way bigger than this, the football aspect of this.
but to speak on the football aspect of it, too, like, man, you know, you're coming off this year.
Obviously, you didn't achieve a lot of the goals that they set out to achieve, but you're sitting at
nine and three.
You've got your, you know, your quarterback here with Bryce Underwood.
You've got a lot of those young guys coming back that we had talked about.
And you're sitting here like, man, this could be like the next two years could be really fun, right?
Like, it could be like, what, let's build on this.
let's go and try and win our 11, 12 games next year, beat Ohio State.
Like, let's go make a run at a national championship in 26 and 27.
And all of a sudden, those conversations are not happening at all.
You know, it's like, okay, you're starting from scratch.
You're rebuilding.
Who's going to hit the portal?
Who's going to even be in that building next year?
And I think that just like, from a fan's perspective, man.
like shit that sucks man i want to be i want to be coming out here and talking ball with you and
talking about how we think that andrew babelola is going to be moving guys next year and the hider
and jordan marshall you know combo is going to be the best running back combo in college football
like that that's what we come on here to talk about we don't come on here to talk about this shit and
it honestly like pisses me off right like and i think everyone has the right to be pissed off like
You took away, you know, the things that we've already talked about,
but you just look at it from purely a football standpoint.
Yeah, you should absolutely be pissed off and had an opportunity next year
and in 2027 to be absolutely loaded.
And all those living rooms you sat and all those parents you talk to,
like it just, you should be pissed off.
And the players should be pissed off.
And I don't blame anybody for making the right decision for themselves over the next,
you know, month, month and a half,
whatever the timeline is.
But yeah, it's, I'm very pissed, you know.
Yeah, and I think that I think too, like, you know,
obviously we're close with like the champion circle guys and stuff like that.
Like I'm imagining their jobs right now of answering donors
and trying to fundraise to get the next Bryce Underwood or whatever it is.
It's like, you know, now they're in a position where what do you even say?
you know there are a lot of members of the athletic department same thing that they're going
through of like how do you talk to a recruit how do you you know how do you handle the situation
with fans and donors and et cetera et cetera i like you know all of it is the actions of
unfortunately one guy right um and so i i i think yeah to your point like it's you know i'm always
like oh what do you what is you know what are the players and the coaches owe the fans they
owe them a lot right like the reason that they are have a salary is because
we all watch and buy tickets and do all that stuff and it's it's uh you know listen i'm still
sitting here as though guy talking about it i'm not in the building and doing a lot of those
things i don't make the catches i don't draw off the plays but um i think that it is you know
we're invested right and so i think it just sucks to be to be in this position and you know
like you said like when your phone's blowing up and everyone's like what the hell is going on over
there um you know you feel as a michigan fan like you feel like you're responsible to answer those
questions a little bit right even though it has nothing to do with you and so um i don't know where do
you turn from now i would say like here's where this is going to be an incredibly important 30 days
for the university of michigan and the athletic department and the football program you have to
address everything you have to try to whether it's clean house whatever you have to to make sure that
you are setting a good foot moving forward um and that's a hard job to have right now um you know
with everything that's going on and so i i think that i you know it's going to be tough but
there is there are people in that that are paid a lot of money or that are in very high positions
at Michigan that need to make some very important decisions here.
And I don't know what those decisions are.
I don't, like you said, I'm going to let them make those decisions.
But, man, it is like, it feels like the next 30 days could be one of the most important
stretches for the athletic department in a long time.
Well, look, this is when you earn your $2.4 million salary as the athletic director, right?
Yep.
Again, I don't know anything beyond that, but this is where you earn your gravy.
you've got to handle and you've got to be able to steer the ship in these extremely
difficult circumstances and times yeah to your point though I was thinking about that too man like
Jared and everyone and Ian and all the guys over at champion circle man just the right before
Christmas too right like you're thinking you're kind of you know you're done with signing day
you're you know obviously the portal heats up but you know maybe spend some time with family
and I don't know what that looks like for those guys so I hope I hope the best in their situations
obviously and you know hopefully uh they get some rest man because i can only imagine what those
guys are dealing with right now um but i i don't i know you mentioned you kind of didn't want to talk
about it i mean i just there's one guy and it's kalen debor yeah um i think it's a pretty
poorly kept secret that he probably wanted the job in 2024 told you before the show i think
the timing just didn't work out i think if sabin hadn't retired and he was still at washington
and there wasn't a premier job for him to take i think he if people uh in power at michigan were
smart. He should have and would have been the head coach at the University of Michigan in
24. That did not happen. And I know, look, you know, from a football perspective, I know people
were like, oh, you know, he lost to Michigan last year. He went 93 and 3. This year, you know,
lost to Georgia. But he's two and one against Georgia. He beat Oregon twice in one year. Like,
he wins his big games. Also, he followed up the greatest coach of all time. Yeah. Can you imagine
the power, like people always, and Johnny Bacon has multiple books on this around the Michigan
football program, but the power struggle and everyone wants to, like, and I just, I can only imagine
what that's like at the University of Alabama after Nick Sabia left, right? So, you know,
you, I'm assuming this, I mean, this, I don't know how much of an impact on the attractiveness
of a job comes into play when something like this goes down and there's still questions to be
answered regarding the athletic department, but I think if in a vacuum,
you put all the jobs that were open this year and last year.
I don't know when you have to,
how far you have to go back,
but if you put them all and you stack them and you rank them,
Michigan is 1A, 1B.
I think it's a better job than LSU.
I think it's a better job than Penn State.
So I don't know how good of his job is Alabama right now in this current landscape.
The resources that you have at Michigan in this current landscape with N.
I'll being allowed and you don't have to pay people through a car dealership down in Tuscaloosa.
We do have car dealerships, though.
We do.
Shout out Felvin Chevrolet of Highland, but they do it the right way.
And shout out to them, you know, they're taking care of a certain running back that's coming here right now.
You know, and like those, but I think they're a great example.
Same with Woodson Whiskey doing their NIL bottle, right?
Like you have guys like Charles Woodson, who's literally the goat who is out there that is advocating and in fundraising for you.
You have Felvin Chevrolet of Highland who are, have been awesome partners of the football program to make sure that guys are set up with a car when they get on to campus.
And so, you know, you add that onto all of the high level donors that are, you know, writing checks.
it's really it is a it is the top job that's it like in the in the current landscape it's the top job
and I think we as fans and the players and everybody else they deserve the top candidate
yeah yeah there's I think it's a top five job in college football currently
definitely some things to clean up from a more administrative standpoint but in terms of
resources what you have allocated to the program and same
that it can be done, even in an era where Michigan may be on its own kind of handicapped itself
with the way that they approached the new landscape. So yeah, for me, it's DeBoer. Any other candidates?
I mean, there's obviously guys that I would be really excited about that I don't think are going
to leave their program. Like, I don't think Kirk Signetti is going to leave. I would be on board
with Clark Lee, but I cannot imagine he's going to leave his alma mater. He's got them rolling. They
just signed the number one quarterback in the country.
So, yeah, there's definitely guys that I think would be fantastic candidates,
but just with the way everything shaped up and the timing of it,
it puts Michigan in a very, very difficult spot.
Yeah, so came on to board.
There we go.
Yeah, man, I know that a lot of people want to, like, you know,
get intel and insight on this.
I think that we're not, if you're looking for intel on details of the
situation. This is probably not your podcast. You can go listen to Ballas and Sam Webb and some of
these other people, John Bacon, whoever. I think we would like to try to stay as positive as we can
here. And, you know, hopefully the next time that we're jumping on, we're talking about a number one
hockey team and a number one basketball team. And they keep it rolling because, man, I, I see here,
I love this program. I love this university too much to,
let this happen so um hopefully we uh we have some better news here coming coming soon yeah absolutely
man i mean i think you know i know obviously with with everything that we do it's so interconnected
to michigan football specifically and all the events and the things that you do um and the things
that we help with uh in terms of just like like there's so many so many hours man hours that go
into the stuff that we we end up doing that is really fun and it's not really for our own
personal gain right like we're not we're not getting rich off the podcast we're not getting rich
off the tailgates like you know it's one of those things that's just um for the love of the game
yeah and i hate to see michigan be drug through the mud but honestly like when i see tweets
the last 24 hours just i can't even it can't even mad yeah like like i mean it's just
you look so horrible to anyone um and it's like if this was isolated to be one thing but
It's just been a constant string of bad press for the last five years.
So I don't know, man.
I mean, you know, it's obviously a different time.
We've not to this level, but we saw something with Michigan football in the early 90s,
mid-90s with Gary Mueller and Lloyd Carr took over.
Now, at that point, you didn't lose Charles Woodson to the portal, right?
Like, you had a guy sticking around.
So, I mean, that's 30-some odd years ago.
So a little bit different of an area.
but, you know, it's, I mean, it's been, I don't know, man, it's been pretty consistent.
It's just, I don't want to just keep bringing up bad things, but, like, there's been a lot of
things within specifically football and basketball and even hockey over the last 30 years
where it's like, what is going on here?
Like, you look back to, like, when the golden days of, like, the athletic department and
Don Canham and, like, all those things, like, this stuff never happened.
And maybe it's because you have just so much more access to news and, you know, things spread more
quickly because of the way that we're interconnected through the internet and through our phones
and stuff but man it's just crazy it's absolutely crazy yeah it sucks it sucks um and it's like
obviously i i i'm going to be a fan through and through but it gets harder to defend you know
um so it's it's hard but all right that'll wrap it up i i don't want to talk about this anymore
like i said hopefully we have some better news here coming coming soon um hoops this
weekend right um yeah yeah against maryland um hockey this weekend too or they are they off
i think there's a break yeah there's like a break for like a month break for juniors or whatever
yeah yeah i think they have an exhibition against like the u 17 USA team or something like that
but um no i mean shout out to dusty may kim barns or rico like they're they're crushing it
obviously um you know michigan i think i don't know if they're gonna i don't know how much more
they need to do to jump Arizona, but Arizona's kind of been doing the same things to other
teams that Michigan has, right? Like, they also beat Auburn by 30. So I mean, it's cool to be ranked
number one, but it doesn't matter. Like, none of that matters, you know. It's just nice seeing the one
by the, by the block M on TV, you know. Of course. Yeah, it's going to be, you know, a night
game on Saturday. Heisman trophy ceremony Saturday, Army Navy, playoffs next weekend. So, you know,
maybe you know i don't know how much the the michigan stuff will be talked about all those
broadcasts but maybe a nice little escape from sports through sports
um over the next couple of weeks and obviously into the holidays so um yeah man
hopefully the next time we come on here be a little more upbeat joby'll have fun it's almost
christmas it's almost new years all the holidays yeah hope you yeah yeah what a time to be
alive we're two weeks from from the 25th and yeah this is what we're doing so all right well for us
