Touchdown, Wolverines!
All right, welcome back to Blue by 90.
I'm Justin, joined by Jack and Kalen.
As always, it is Sunday?
Monday.
Monday, January 2nd, and Sonny Dykes is dancing on our grave.
Yeah, dude.
Sonny Dykes and Max Duggan.
What are they?
They're gritting?
Gritting on our graves?
They're gritting on our graves.
Sonny Dykes just liked a tweet from Decembercember 7th yesterday of our he was going through
everybody's huh he was going through everybody's when i got that notification though i feel like
we were one of the first ones or something and i like i retweeted it or tweeted it out and then
all of a sudden like all these receipts started coming and i was just like you know what i was
laughing at that point i'm yeah good for him yeah do you think he's like up at 1 a.m with his bourbon just like
talking mad shit on twitter this guy fuck that guy i mean all right i do have to say this like
the tweet that we put out was the it was um well like imagine jj yeah it was like no no the tweet that we put out was like imagine um
imagine going the tcu's big 12 defense going up against this and the reason i i put it out was
not because of like our offensive line is so good which they are obviously but it was more so that
we had like eight offensive tackles in one formation yeah that was the funny part was like you know but
obviously 13 personnel or something yeah yeah something ridiculous but like obviously like tcu
and you know what i we could have deleted it but we're not cowards we're not cowards i'll own up
to that do you think that was bulletin board material like they had that tweet hanging up
in the locker room i hope so if listen if we're to that point like then we made it we absolutely made it
i mean they probably did they probably printed it out and then like actually listen to the podcast
and we're just like oh yeah we don't need to worry about this one sunny dykes is like hey
he's like talked to one of his assistants is like can you i was like just give me one listen
and it was
probably like the like the christmas day episode that we did where we're all drinking like all
right never mind yeah i'm not worried about it but you were out in arizona right for the game
i was out in arizona um and i mean vibes are good except okay i'll say this like i have a couple friends
that live in arizona that like i went and met with and stuff like that um and they were like
this is the first time that we haven't seen the sun in three days like ever here in phoenix and
those were like the three days i was there of course yeah of course. And I feel like that probably should have been the sign.
Probably should have been the sign that things weren't going to go well for us.
I will say the weather on Saturday for the actual game was like perfect.
It was like 65 and sunny.
We had the Westgate District right outside of the stadium.
Awesome vibes.
It was really cool.
Tailgate scene out there at all.
Pretty good.
So it's like a bar.
It's a bar tailgate scene.
They had like,
and it was like all set up for new year's Eve too,
but like they have like an outdoor,
like it's kind of like an,
a drinking district type of thing.
Um,
and then like every bar is obviously like inside outside because it's
Phoenix.
So,
um, that was pretty cool to be able to do that um friday night so i went to one of the clubs on thursday night
i didn't realize this the clubs in phoenix are like vegas time like it's it's really oh yeah
it well scottsdale sorry okay i was gonna say, I heard Scottsdale is like a big,
maybe like bachelor, bachelorette party kind of town.
Yes, for sure.
Party vibes?
That makes sense then.
It was big party vibes.
It was like, I mean, and then even on Friday,
like the clubs are bumping.
They were bumping at like 2 p.m.
I was like.
Hey, ready for happy hour, man.
It was wild um i
just didn't really like i i've heard like fun things about scottsdale i didn't know it was
like vegas level but it is wow not a bad trip for you then we gotta make a little boys trip out
there maybe do some golfing yeah although it i mean a beer is like $17. You know,
maybe we don't go there then.
Maybe we don't.
Yeah.
It was that key piece of info out.
Yes.
Yes.
It was not only is it Vegas vibes,
it's Vegas prices as well.
So that's brutal.
Yeah.
But ultimately,
no,
it's a,
it's a cool spot.
And then we were,
so Friday night for Valiant, we put on –
we worked with the U of M Club of Phoenix at one of the –
they had like a Michigan bar, and we put on an event on Friday night,
like a pregame event with John Jansen, Corum, and Denard,
and we brought Corum and Denard out.
And like I – that was when the vibes were the highest because
it was unreal absolute chaos like line of a hundred people out the door like couldn't pack
one more body in there and then I was like playing security guard as I was like on the mic and playing
security guard at the same time like trying to get on
crutches blake quorum like through this crowd of people like i got i got denard through and like me
and denard are sitting there chatting like in the dj booth before like the thing gets going and he
just looks at me he goes how the fuck are you gonna get blake in here dude dude i'll tell you
there's that one picture of you guys up there and i think you you said it
was like you were at the resting bitch face you just looked at it that must have been like right
after you got quorum up there you're just like it was i mean well i'm like trying to coordinate it
quorum's driving down from la and he's like calling me and like they're just like playing
the loudest music i can't hear denard's calling me at the same time i'm just like playing the loudest music. I can't hear. Denard's calling me at the same time. I'm just like doing the full thing.
This is like very humble brag of me, by the way.
So sorry for being a douchebag.
I love it though.
I love it.
I appreciate it.
I was like legit just trying to coordinate everybody at the same time
and like also just get the event started.
And it was just, it was wild.
But like ultimately, like people were literally
climbing over the DJ booth to try and get a Blake Corum and a Denard signature on their stuff. And
it was like, I, it wasn't game day yet. I was just like, what is going on? And that was when
the vibes were the highest. I was like, holy shit. That was awesome. So if you were there,
shout out to all the fans that came out it was like
the guys loved it i will say that like they texted me john jansen texted me he was like
you guys crushed that pep rally like that was bonkers and and like quorum and denard like as
much chaos as it was like they love that shit so um it was really cool that's awesome and it's
probably that's probably great for quorum to kind of do something like that, too,
because it's not like he has to prepare for the game, obviously.
Yeah.
So get some interaction with the fans.
Yeah.
No, it was cool.
Did you guys go out after that?
Yeah, for a little bit.
Did Corham just hit the bar or what?
Hit the clubs?
No, I got them.
He's got you, like, on his shoulders or something.
No, I legit, like, like guys when i say this like i'm
like ushering them out to the car to their cars and people are like it was like justin bieber and
tmz like people i'm not kidding you like while he's trying to get into his car he's like signing
autographs through the window and i'm like guys we guys, we got to get him out of here. It was wild.
It was wild.
The people love Blake Corum and an art.
They do.
They're two very lovable guys.
Yeah.
And then John Jansen sitting there.
He's like staring at me.
He's like, nobody gives a shit about me.
You'll probably think I'm security.
Thankfully, he is like six foot ten.
And so I tell you you what it's crazy some of these guys
that are like former nfl linemen once they retire they're just like cock diesel yes like they can be
like all right maybe i'll go play in the nba now i'm just i want to know like i need to ask him
like does he work out or is this just his like he's just that forever he looks phenomenal caitlin and i actually
um we saw him in the elevator on the day when we were leaving indy when like going to the hotel we
saw him in the elevator on the way down we're like hey what's going on i did like i'd never i
hadn't seen him like since we did that interview with him when he had the goatee and i was like
where's the goatee he's like oh i shaved for the season i'm like you look about 20 years younger buddy it's like he looks like he's like 35 that one the one time he came in
for that interview he had the goatee he had a hawaiian shirt on flip flops he was just like
it was it was ready to go john ready ready oh yeah um so he was in work mode. Also, like, shout out John Jansen. He's so good at his job.
Like, so good at his job.
Oh, yeah.
I'm very proud to have him as, like, our announcer and our play-by-play guy.
Was Karsh out there too?
Dougie?
Yeah, he didn't come on Friday night, but they were there.
Calling the game, obviously, on Saturday.
Okay.
Nice.
So, yeah, I mean then that was awesome and then
we got to game day met up with a bunch of blue by 90 followers that uh ended up at mcfadden's
which was a very cool vibe um just like inside outside bar the the michigan fan base outside of
the bars or outside of the stadium at these bars,
I didn't see one TCU fan.
And obviously they showed up because their side of the stadium was packed.
But, man, I felt like before we were going into the game, I was like,
holy shit, this is going to be like 90% Michigan fans.
So it was really cool vibes beforehand.
Man.
Well, how were the vibes during the game in the stadium?
I mean, pregame was awesome.
Pregame?
First play of the game was great.
First play of the game.
When did you get in the stadium?
Because I know our guy, Patty, was in there like two hours early. Yeah.
So, you know, it was a 4 p.m. Eastern game,
but a 2 p.m. Mountain Time game in Arizona.
So we left the bar at, like, 1245, got in probably, like, just after 1.
And it was cool.
You know, it was – those are, like, one of the only games that I go in early.
I mean, Ohio State I went in early in the Big Ten Championship too,
but, like, I love that – I love watching the free game and getting people hype. games that i go in early i mean ohio state i went in early in the big 10 championship too but like
i loved that uh i love watching the free game and getting people hype it was the tcu crowd was like
i mean they were ready to rock they were very very excited to be there so i you know i don't
want to say like we underestimated them but maybe a little bit like i mean they played an incredible game stadium comparison so
we lucas oil right now you're in another nfl stadium you've been to uh ford field
we've been to ford field been to hard rock stadium in miami for last year's uh playoff game um
lucas oil by far the worst i'll be honest i Yeah, I'm not a big fan of Lucas Oil.
I think it's out of date.
Why is that?
Oh, it's old?
Yeah, the screens are small.
There's just nothing special about it, to be honest.
I love Indy.
Indy is awesome, but Lucas Oil, they need to just make some upgrades.
This stadium is sweet, though.
I love this stadium.
I would say it's one of the better ones i've been to um very cool hard rock was sweet last year so loud um but
it was awesome the tcu fans were loud as fuck i'll be honest like super super loud we could hear
them even like i mean obviously we watched azel bell, but like they had the game over the speakers and you could hear like
Michigan's fans.
Like we're allowed to, but TCU is, was just as loud.
Yeah.
Which was surprising.
I mean, guys, was it just me or like Donovan ran that first run?
And I was like, Oh my God, we're going to win by a hundred.
Yeah.
I was like, his game's over.
And then just, I don't even know what happened after that.
It was just –
Immediately kicked in the dick.
Immediately kicked in the dick.
Yeah.
That was like – I don't know.
Did it feel like that was like the moment where just like –
to me it felt like, all right, we don't score there after that.
And then it was like – I don't know if the team felt this,
but it felt like but i felt like
the fans felt like this everyone was just like what do we do now like we're just used to scoring
and like going down like i don't know it just felt like i felt like what are we doing at the
goal line here that and that's where i started to go like uh are we like getting too cute like
you know we're we're a run the ball team and I we're we're running the ball but it's just a little
bit more flashy than I'm used to seeing from us so I started going like what's going on well it
felt like we weren't even you're kind of like what you were saying Kaelin like like maybe we're
getting a little bit too cute because it felt like we weren't really relying on running the ball like it was like it seemed like we're passing it a lot I'm trying to
look at the box score now to see if that's like well even just first possession first quarter kind
of stuff yeah yeah I mean I feel like one of like I wrote an article that was like keys to the game
and I'm not the only one who say who said this but it was like you have to establish the
run early right that was a key to the game and we outside of donovan's one play did not establish
the run i think i killed the blind scrimmage killed man we we i felt like our offensive line
did not get a push all day and they were like we were confused at who to block is what it felt like jack said it
during the game he was like man we should start running 335 they were fucking crushing it i mean
maybe db's in the backfield man what's going on here i i went i mean going back to like when
michigan did run a 335 with richard like if richard would have had a defensive coordinator
that knew how to run the 335 i think we would have been better at it um seeing as like i go back to
those days and i know greg robinson literally told rich rod like i don't know how to run a three three
five so anyways that's a whole different story but um yeah i agree it just felt like, to me, okay, A, do we not have a QB sneak in our playbook?
Even that, like the Khalil Mullings,
it was like a full back dive to Khalil Mullings.
Right.
Why would we not just have him do a half back dive
and then Bredy fucking block for him?
Like we've done all fucking year long
well oh my thing is it was like played like that that were so confusing to be like the
philly special like what are we running a philly special for i mean that's to me that's such a
play where like if it works you look like a genius but if it doesn't you look like a moron
you know granted what in the first or second quarter like it wasn't like later in the game no that was right away yeah that's why i'm like that's it's just to pull something like that
out of out of your hat right away it just seems strange i mean i mean again yeah if it worked
it's genius but it's like yeah you're supposed to have the best o-line in the country exactly
running back in the country run the ball person i heard said like if you're michigan
you run the ball and you don't care if you're down by a touchdown at halftime because you wear
them out in the fourth quarter right so like you know i don't care if it takes us four downs to get
a first down if we run the ball and that's what it takes to get down the field, I'm cool with that.
But we just like, I don't know.
We just like got scared of doing that.
I felt like.
Well, and I felt like also we, so the run game like wasn't working too,
but we just continued to run it right up the gut.
Instead of like trying to change up the run schemes a little bit,
go, you know, I think a 335 um is the
weaknesses are on the outside and you try and like you know stretch it out a little bit because
they've only got three but like we're just trying to run up the middle that number i gotta give
props number 57 the linebacker for tcu all over the place was that that that Winners guy? Yeah, all over the place. Team Winners.
Three tackles for loss.
Dylan Horton, four tackles for loss.
Yeah.
Miller Bradford, two tackles for loss.
I don't know.
It felt like we were ramming our head against the wall
trying to make the run game work,
but only doing the same thing over and over.
And then it wasn't until the fourth quarter where we were like,
hey, what if we utilized our five-star Qb who's faster than like anybody else on this field that's what kill and i was saying
like why are we not doing read options why are we not trying to run the ball with jj like there
was so many times where it was like all right nobody there nobody there nobody there and he
like took a second or two a little longer than i would have liked and he could just take it off
and gotten a first down but it ended up being like and we throw the ball away or like incomplete we saw
max duggan do it a few times every time he's like all right nothing nothing see ya i'm out yeah yeah
i would like to see that from jj but i mean i like a little mullings right but and and i think i like
understand the ideology of like you put this big ass back in there and we ram him, you know,
through the end zone.
But like also, you know,
who runs really, really hard with their head down is Donovan Edwards.
Who's your five-star running back.
Like I, I, I felt like we were overthinking that.
And even after like, I don't know, after the fumble, I feel like, all right,
let's go back to Donovan, right?
But every time we were in the red zone, we're –
Kahlil Mullings was in there.
And I don't know.
I just feel like, okay, if I'm at the defense
and Kahlil Mullings goes out there, I know exactly what's happening, you know?
And, like, but if Donovan's's in there then donovan can go catch a
pass or or spread out wide like i don't know i don't know i think they've we have put some
strange things on film right colal mullings jump pass yeah so i mean you do have to be prepared a
little bit for anything yeah i don't know i lost the game say that again let's talk about the real
reason we lost the game somebody paid the refs right i mean can we just make that a make that a thing that's happening conspiracy theory
roman wilson did not have possession of that ball until he was in the end zone and i i then
overturned that initial call is insane to me i i checked for with with some like actual people
that know football and in the rules and not us No, I didn't text either of you.
Notice that.
I know ball.
Come on now.
I checked, and they said, like, you do not gain possession
until you have possession, which is, like, a dumb way to say it.
But, like, you're not down until you – because at first I was like,
oh, maybe it's, like, one of those weird rules where, like, you rules where you're down where you touch the ball first, even though you can't start the slide.
Yeah, like one of those.
But no, so I agree with you exactly what you said, Jack.
That was crazy to me to overturn.
Even if whatever the play is or whatever the ruling is,
it should have just stood, whatever was called up.
Well, and then even like this was a grasping at fucking straws
at the end of the game, but the targeting.
They didn't look at it initially.
Then they reviewed it.
And after reviewing it, how do you not call that targeting?
I don't understand.
I mean, this is me just like whining.
This is what like I just needed a win.
But, I mean, we were just like – we were sitting at the bar,
please call targeting, please call targeting,
like praying for any chance to stay in the game.
I mean, yeah.
Tough, man.
And how does that happen?
The last play of the season, the first like fumbled or bad snap
where guys weren't on the same page all year long,
the last play of the last season tcu was
loud as shit i'll say that but it was just i don't know that kind of summed up the day i felt like a
little bit where it was like sure we we were it didn't feel like we were expecting them to come
out and like hit us in the mouth you know and then And then like once they did, we were like, oh shit,
they're here to play.
And obviously you blinked and we were down 21 to three.
And it's like, you know, I don't know how many,
like I don't know the stat,
but how many times in a game has a team thrown two pick sixes in one?
Can't be many.
I know.
How many points did they score in the
second half we scored 39 points in the second half and lost yeah we scored 39 they scored 30
that's crazy that we had only given up how many points in the second half i mean we won the second
half each quarter in the way have we actually – that's a good question.
Was that like more points that we've given up in the second half
than the rest of the season combined?
Or maybe half the season combined?
Because I think they said in the last nine games
we had only given up like 28 points or something like that.
Yeah.
Well, you know –
But also, none of those other teams were max duggan and tcu
turns out one's ohio state i'm a i'm a horn frog baby they better beat georgia i hope so i mean
it's been tough to watch them just shit on our twitter account for the last 48 hours but it'll
be a good moral victory though yeah um i will say you know I love this team, man. Yeah, fucking awesome.
Can you talk about Moody drilling a 59-yarder?
Incredible.
That would be good for the 70.
I mean, he passed the record,
passed Desmond Howard's record for most all-time points in Michigan history.
Oh, really?
Hell yeah.
On a 59-yarder where he – it would have been good from 65.
Oh, yeah.
Dude, he fucking crushed that he's i i will
miss him a lot a lot i think the ravens are just gonna drop justin tucker and draft moody probably
i mean i would does jake moody go top five possibly i mean dude how do you let him slide past two
i'm saying he uh i mean he probably did earn himself a lot of money on that kick alone,
like on a national stage.
Oh, yeah.
That's in the NFL.
That's a big boy kick.
It's a big boy kick.
But, like, okay, going back to, Kalen,
what you said about the second half, like, you know,
I was really, really proud of our fight.
Like, obviously, it's the playoff and i
expected us to fight but like you're down 21-3 and like things are not going well like not that
not that anybody's gonna turn it in but damn i loved our fight but it just it was like so
frustrating that every time we had a punch they like punched right back and it was like it was
one of those basketball games where you're like the lead is like six to eight then you get it
down to two and then they'd go down and hit a three-pointer you know like it's it was like
multiple plays i mean the clinton johnson 60 yard you know crossing route where he caught the ball
behind the line of scrimmage and we almost had him in
the line and behind the yeah that was our worst tackling game i've seen all season yeah that
reminded me of the rich rod days yeah we did not tackle well and they did tackle really well
dude tcu played incredible they played incredible and i mean, I also would say like, that probably was our worst game played of all of the year.
And it just like sucks that it had to be in that moment.
You know, one of the keys of the game that I put in there was like,
limit the mistakes.
Like that was how, the way that we won the last 13 games,
especially like against Ohio State was,
we were not the one making mistakes Ohio State was
the one making mistakes this time we're the one making mistakes I mean let's think about it two
pick sixes and then two times that you don't score from the one yard line 28 point swing there like
even if you at one out of those four instances if we get the better end of the stick there, we win the game.
One out of four.
I just feel like what's frustrating on a larger scope, I think,
as a Michigan fan is just our ability to show up in these bowl games
against really good teams, and we just never come with
some crazy schematic advantage.
I never feel like we show up and I'm like, wow, we really prepared for this game. we just never come with like some crazy schematic advantage. Right.
I never feel like we show up and I'm like,
wow,
we really prepared for this game.
I would say what?
I agree.
I,
I mean,
five or six years we've been,
we're talking about the bowl games or in general,
pretty much bowl games in the Harbaugh era.
We're now what?
One in six or something like that.
Yeah.
And not to be fair.
I think there's one against south carolina
where we just totally fell apart yeah we're in here yeah i mean like ultimately like i don't
know i i struggle with like counting a lot of these bowl games because like they're also not
cupcake bowl games like these are we we always become we end up playing a really fucking good team
And we never beat them
No we don't
That deserves to be talked about
I agree with you
I think like I would put way more
Emphasis on like the last two years
Than I would like
The
Citrus Bowl versus Florida State
That was a close game too
Yeah like I don't know man I was it the citrus bowl versus florida state you know that was a close game too yeah like
i don't know man i those games are tough because like you got guys sitting out and like you you
know 2018 it's like you just had the most soul-crushing defeat to ohio state like i can't
imagine that like everyone in the month of december doing bowl game practices is like really excited
to go to practice every day plus naji harris just went nuts on us that year right uh was that the year after that was the year after
i was 19 i think that was 19 but yes you're right turns out naji harris is really good
on the michigan uniform um yeah i do agree like it just it i don't know if it felt like we were trying too hard or what
but i didn't i felt like we got out coached like i not only did we were we like out hustled and
outplayed and they were really good but like i agree with you kaylin i thought that we we didn't
have good adjustments for what they were throwing at us and that had been our game all year was
making adjustments also max duggan just fucking makes timely plays like how how do they make a
play every time they need to it's wild max duggan dude should have won the heisman that was my vote
and actually we did a really good job in the red zone, I thought. But they just – it didn't matter because they were making big plays, right?
Yeah.
And it's hard to nail it down to one thing.
But, yeah, I think it's fair to say that Michigan was outcoached.
We had two pick sixes.
We had a fumble on the goal line.
Had bad call – two bad calls by the refs.
I mean, it was just a culmination of everything together.
Lost by six, which is crazy in itself when you say like lost by six and lost by less than a
touchdown and then you can point to like 15 different things that if that one play goes
differently like we have at least one more score or they have one less score. And I'm just like, that's the most frustrating thing to me because it feels like the most
winnable game of all time.
If you're Michigan,
I want to give it up to TCU because they did play a hell of a game and
they've won the game.
Absolutely.
But like,
I mean,
it was really Michigan losing.
I thought more than,
than TCU winning.
Yeah.
It was just an uncharacteristic game for Michigan.
When you look at how they played all year long,
it looked like
a different team out there.
Their whole identity was off.
We sound like
a Scarlet and Gray team on November
27th. I know.
We really just beat ourselves, guys.
If a call went another way...
And then you're like...
We're Big Ten guys, you know?
You can say that
when you lose by six
a lot more than you can say that when you lose by
22. There we go. That's what I want to hear.
There you go. Bring it
full circle. We still won the Big Ten. We still beat
Ohio State. Great season
all around. Just a heartbreaking ending. When we say it, it's circle. We still won the Big Ten. We still beat Ohio State. Great season all around. Just a heartbreaking ending.
When we say it, it's true.
Yes.
And, I mean, it sucks to be a Michigan fan a lot
because this is how it ends for us way too often.
Way too often.
I'll tell you what.
What I am very excited for, positive vibes only, new year, new me,
an angry J.J. and Dono going in the offseason.
How good with a lot of, like, Mikey Samer still, Rod Moore,
a lot of this defense coming back,
how good do you think Michigan's going to be next year?
I think they're going to be fucking incredible.
I still think there's a chance Blake comes back, too.
Coach Minter, too, again? Poss incredible. I still think there's a chance Blake comes back too. Coach Minter too, again?
Possibly.
I hope so.
If we have four D coordinators in four years, that would suck.
We're just going to get like Wink Martindale.
No, I mean, I like, obviously jj made huge two huge like costly mistakes that like probably
cost us the game but like but he played well he did you look at what he did in the second half
and like we he put the team on his back in the second half we couldn't run the ball for shit
and he was just like all right i'll just fucking do it myself you know this is this is one
of those games now where i used to before 2021 you guys know anytime that 2016 game was on i would
watch it 2016 michigan ohio state this is my new 2016 michigan ohio state i'm just gonna re-watch
this game constantly why like that's the thing it's like it's such an exciting game all those
exciting like re-watchable games, Michigan loses.
It's terrible.
I'll just have to turn it off before the last drive
and just make up my own ending.
It's so – it goes against every positive vibes thing that you live through.
Your positive vibes –
Wait a second.
That 2016 Ohio State game was great because we
were up and we just had to stop them at the line and the call didn't quite go our way this game
we're we're never up so where's the well no it's comeback though second half comeback second half
team we had an opportunity at the end of the game i remember telling you this at the bar
okay i was like remember when i said this on the podcast a couple of weeks ago,
I was telling row,
how amazing would it be if JJ McCarthy has a game winning drive to win the
fucking playoff game and send it to the net.
And that's what I was hoping would happen. You know,
there was an opportunity for it. Obviously it didn't happen,
but there was an opportunity for it.
There was.
That's true.
In my, in my version of the game, how it happened is that's not a fumbled snap.
You got Andrell Anthony going deep, dive and catch in the end zone.
Michigan goes up by one, stops him on defense.
Game over.
Michigan's heading to the natty.
It's my alternate reality that I'm living right now.
Could have happened.
Can't tell me it couldn't have.
It didn't happen. You can't tell me it couldn't have. It didn't happen.
You can't tell me it couldn't have happened.
And, okay.
I love your positivity.
Thank you for that.
The consolation prize is that Ohio State lost, like, literally,
as the ball dropped as he missed the kick.
It couldn't have timed up more perfectly.
And I tell you what i'm i think i'm
with most michigan fans where like the stress going through my body while watching that kick
knowing that like if he makes that that we have to watch ohio state international title i would
have been beside myself i don't think i would have been able to handle that. No, yeah. Thank God
they lost. Otherwise, it would just be
they would give them some
sort of ammunition to throw back at us,
but now they still have nothing, which is
great. Also,
who's playing in the Rose Bowl today? Penn State
and who? Who are they playing?
Utah? Utah.
That's who it is. Is that right?
Yeah.
Yeah.
I couldn't remember if it was Utah or USC because I? Yeah. I'm pretty sure
USC plays Tulane today.
So it is Utah.
Yeah.
I want to go back
to just like
I think this is
the reason why I'm even more
sad is I just love this
fucking team,
man.
Like they're like,
they deserved a fucking national title.
Like they,
they,
they are super good,
but like just the culture that they've built and,
and the guys that they are like,
that's what makes it tougher.
Cause like,
I think there,
there's probably teams in the past of all sports, right,
that you watch and you're like, damn, that team's really good,
but they got some assholes.
And, like, this is, like, a super likable team,
and that made it hurt worse, I think.
Yeah, sucks.
Now, I saw JJ and was it Donovan or somebody else standing on this,
on the field watching the celebration after the game.
Do you think, you know, second time's a charm here?
I don't know.
I just think like, I mean, dude,
it's just hard to do this year in and year out.
And that's where I'm like, yeah, maybe.
But also like i mean it's just
hard to swallow the fact that like we had like probably the best chance ever and wasn't we
weren't able to to complete it and you know i think i would have been able to swallow losing
to georgia in a national title or something way better than i'm able to swallow this one
i mean you gotta you gotta think michigan's gonna be a favorite to make the playoff next year as
well yeah but just like everything's gotta go fucking right for it to happen you know like
aim for every other team man i know i know that positive vibes i like that i appreciate that but
like and look who's all coming back i mean mean, if we can replace the O line,
which will be very fucking hard to do.
You said probably the best align in the country for the last.
I mean,
you actually had the best align in the country last two years can,
you know,
if they can replenish the O line,
I think the D line still looks good.
Secondary looks fucking incredible.
You got all your weapons on offense coming back.
Here's a better shot next year.
Question.
And this is not negative vibes.
This is a legitimate question.
Wait,
why can't I say that all the time without Jack jumping down my throat?
Let's hear your question.
I'm just better than you.
That's why.
All right.
I mean,
that's still a line two years in a a row didn't play great in the bowl
game obviously two years in a row oh so is this your positive vibes thinking maybe we have a
battle line and we make it to the playoff they'll play good no i'm saying maybe we strategically next year don't win the joe moore award and then destroy in the
playoff i think it's a good idea let's try it yeah see what happens yeah i mean winning the
joe moore award we're winless in the playoff so i'm just saying if you lose the joe moore award
maybe you're undefeated in the playoff you don't even have to lose it. Just get runner up or something. I'll take that as a positive vibes only spin zone. I like that.
Yeah, I think that's
a great idea. How about we just don't win
any games next year? I think that would be even better.
I was going to say,
I think sucking
to win the playoff
seems like a bold strategy, but
that's just... I don't
hate trying it. know can we just
like lose every game three two jesus that would be awful it sounds like nebraska
gotta win three of those games that was the best three and nine team in the country it was 2021
um i mean no like okay here's a question too as we're looking at 2023 how long is it before
other fan bases start complaining about our 2023 schedule because it's just they already did i
heard somebody say yeah i think i already saw it it's just as soft as this year if not softer
great i'm all for it because then what 2024 is when we get uh oklahoma and texas right
i think we play texas 2024 yeah that's what i mean yeah we had a home and home or something
jesus that's a good question um yeah i i mean what do we we have east carolina
like fresno state they had ch had Chris Johnson back in the day.
They were good at one point.
Our schedule is not good.
I'll say that.
Yeah, who fucking cares?
Win.
Win the games.
Just win.
Just win. Just win.
We'll have to – I mean, the big games next year will be what?
Going to Michigan State.
Going to Michigan State, even though, like, who knows what they'll be like.
At Penn State.
At Penn State could be a tough one, but they – I don't know.
I do think Penn State will be really, really good
next year because they'll
for the first time not
have to rely on mid-Sean
Clifford.
I don't know, man. I think
Michigan's going to dominate. We're still
ascending. I think Michigan's still ascending
as a program.
I think they're going to come out and just fucking
dominate people. Kind of like georgia that's my hope that's my fucking hope for this year wow
oh the great one of the greatest teams of all time okay sounds good yeah fair enough i'm glad
that i'm glad that our expectations are staying realistic hey positive i mean i i don't i mean
we've won 12 games the last two years. I agree.
Why would your expectation not be that?
I agree.
Can we talk perspective for a second here?
Let's talk perspective.
First of all, if you have anything bad to say about Jim Harbaugh right now on Twitter, delete your account.
Absolutely delete your account and also throw away or donate all of your michigan
gear to somebody who will appreciate it because jim harbaugh did he has done it take it took
longer than we all wanted to that is 1000 fact right but he here's what he did he elevated
the program to a level of national championship expectations.
It is no longer that we're okay with losing to Ohio State and okay with just being 10-3 or something.
Now the expectation is not even just to beat Ohio State
and win a Big Ten title.
It is to win a national championship.
He has risen to a top two to four to five whatever you
want to call it coach in the country and our program is there so we're to that point we are
1000 to that point where in my head he has done what he was hired to do. Obviously, we would all love a national championship.
That goes without saying.
I don't think people realize how fucking hard it is
to win a national championship.
Only one team does it every year.
I'm not sure if you realize that.
Sorry, rant over.
Yeah, I just wasn't sure if you were going along with
where we
were at there um yeah great rant i mean you're not wrong i that's what that's what we want i
felt like you were you were trying to bring it back down because you were like let's be realistic
for a second and you like kind of yeah brought it way up so i was just i'm i'm thrown i'm thrown
for a little bit i think i oh okay i'll bring it full
circle then for you where like he has brought the expectation now to like our our standard is
is to beat ohio state to win a big 10 title and to play for a national championship with that being
said like it's really really hard to do that year in and year out you know like outside of a bama a
clemson and an ohio state like those are the three teams that have been able to do that for
to string those together for multiple years in a row we're now like become like seriously i'm
trying to think i don't know another team in the last like that have won back-to-back championships,
even conference championships.
And you even look at what Clemson did this year, and they struggled down the stretch.
I don't know.
I think that Jim Harbaugh has gotten this program to a really, really good spot,
and it's definitely a top three to five program in the country.
And there's no doubt about it.
Love it.
Beautiful.
Absolutely.
Anybody got any fun new year's resolutions?
Wow.
That was a really good segue.
We were repeating ourselves a lot.
So I don't change the subject a little bit.
My new year's resolution is to
i don't know i don't have easy one dry january everybody doing dry january
no no no kaylen did you already are you already out i'm not already out i guess i'm i'm doing it
but not intentionally yeah so far i'm good to go. All right, there we go.
I'll give myself props.
I spent all day yesterday in airports and didn't have a beer.
That's impressive.
That's tough.
That's tempting.
Airports.
That's a top tier beer.
It is.
20 bucks.
That's a top tier beer.
Yeah.
It just tastes better when you
spend outrageous money for them.
You really appreciate it more.
Yeah.
No, I mean, my brother's wedding is in a week
so there's no way I can
just keep that going. Keep that bender going.
I mean, you could.
I mean, you could.
That sounds ridiculous.
That sounds ridiculous. What. That sounds ridiculous.
What should I – can you – why don't we –
let's brainstorm a best man speech right now.
You're speaking?
I'm the best man.
I guess that makes sense, yeah.
I don't know why I would think it wouldn't be.
All about yourself.
You should.
You should make that a little better.
That does sound like me if we're being honest i still remember his speech
he's like yeah nobody likes to hear himself talk more than justin that's why he has like five
podcasts now i i do think i i might start it out something to the effect of like i'm used to a 45
minute podcast so everyone better sit tight here there you go get a good shot up there and be like
all right welcome to blue by 90 i'm justin at a wedding make sure to make sure to wear the blue by 90 hat too we need to get some uh
some ads over here exactly okay all right yeah definitely need to plug ourselves um that's for
sure yeah i think that's a good that's a good point i hadn't really thought about that but now
that you now that you say it making it more about me than him at his wedding seems like a good play
yeah just do 75 all about you and then come back with a real heartfelt 25 really throw people off
there you go yeah there you go yeah i like that i i think you end it with him maybe like a sentence
or two about him yeah or just talk about the bride the whole time never talk about him just don't
mention it but that's kind of i like that unique just like or just really about the bride the whole time never talk about him just don't mention it but
that's kind of i like that unique just like or just really talk him down and be like yeah you
know i never what's his what's his wife's name holly holly he's like yeah you know i never thought
you know alex would ever be able to grow up and you know become somebody respectable and then he
met holly and you know she's just incredible an incredible human you just go off about her
forever and then like a subtle dig yeah it's like little subtle digs that alex the whole time you see it would work but i am like
i'm the head of the family and he's like perfect so it's uh even better like wait a minute wait
is alex the older brother or younger no he's younger he seems older because he's forgetting
that he's way more mature and successful, better looking.
I was going to say you could be like, yeah, Alex is the older brother, but I did get married first, so I'll count that as a win.
But he's the younger brother, so it doesn't really apply.
No.
I inspired Alex.
I got married.
I'm the better looking one.
I'm more successful.
I'd be like, I'm glad I could be a role model for him, getting married, getting married and, you know, you know, finding somebody that,
uh,
live my life together.
Perfect.
We inspired Alex to find somebody as well.
So what you're saying is I just have to lie through the entire.
Yeah.
Just lie.
You're dead in the audience.
Like
everyone's just like looking around.
Like what the fuck is he? are we at the right wedding yeah
all right i mean okay yeah i'll start writing that today
um so the general interested game day for nimky's wedding oh oh yeah maybe the night before
it was like an hour before yeah it sounds like kinch no but it was
good i think it worked when i remember um yeah i all right i'll i'll end it end it with this like
i all i did on new year's night after the game i just went through my phone and texted everybody
like one word and it was just fuck it was just anybody that like i needed to talk to the
game about it was just literally just like fuck fuck tough man was any i mean i put the the meme
out there uh yesterday i have the guy on the swing just like looking into the distance like
that was me yesterday where i'm just like what bubble escobar and i i was just like
there i caught myself multiple times just kind of like staring off into space of
like, Oh man, you know,
I do think one big positive is Michigan basketball knows that it's now
basketball season.
That was right.
They're the best team in the country.
They're the best team in the country.
Helping my mental health for real.
They did.
I, you know, that was really nice about it before the game. And like, we're like, Oh God, helping my mental health for real. They did.
That was really nice about it before the game.
We're like, oh, God, we got to watch the basketball team play today.
But I was excited, and it was good, and they won by a lot.
They did win by a lot.
That was very timely of them.
Very nice of them.
Also, I don't know what they did on New Year's Eve, but if they went out, then they should just go to Skeeves
before every game or something.
Just get Coach Howard blasted.
Also, can Hunter just pretend like every other team is Maryland?
He's a so-and-so.
Him being from the DMV and Maryland not recruiting him
or whatever the story is, like, he just hates them so much.
Like, we truly need
to come up with like a reason for him to hate every opponent like let's start like dming his
girlfriend let's let let's like start burner accounts from every opponent and start dming
his girlfriend like we need to start doing something well i think the the round ball
podcast he has now with barstool i think it helps a lot like to get him out there as like this
villain guy so you know it might it might start happening where he's just gonna accept that role
he needs to i mean i will say i can't stand him on the podcast because it's like
causing causing i don't really listen to it either but like
every clip i see is just him stirring the pot and causing drama unnecessarily and it's like funny
we didn't have 100 and i'd hate him yeah 100 yeah if it's funny if we're winning but like
you know when you're losing to central michigan at home i'm just like kind of tough yeah yeah
it's a tough look yeah but so um all right well i think the
biggest thing i'm sad about i just i i'm just gonna keep the depressing vibes going here to
finish it up we just don't get to watch michigan football again that's sad not till what august
september we know what the date of the first game is assuming like first week of september so it's i i just i really like this team man and i felt like they deserve more and it's
great season great season great season josh ogdahl put it out there like
we legit went 12 calendar months like 365 days without losing a football game. That's crazy.
That is wild.
Wow.
December 31, December 31.
Yeah.
So.
Pretty crazy.
It's pretty impressive.
Pretty impressive.
Overall, like.
Overall, I put a bunch of tweets out there trying to.
I was.
You got to give me props of how positive. You did. You're doing a great job. Excellent. I did enjoy a bunch of tweets out there trying to – you got to give me props of how positive I was.
You did.
You were doing a great job.
Excellent.
I did enjoy a lot of that.
Yeah.
Like, I mean, only three times in the last 50 years that Michigan has won
or lost less than two games two years in a row.
Pretty awesome.
And the first time ever they've been 13-0.
Is this the first time they've ever won 13 games in a season?
correct
like
how is that not
just incredible
everybody should be happy about this team
obviously a heartbreaking loss but an incredible fucking season
incredible things to look forward to
this isn't the end of this
run of Michigan football
it's still just the beginning I do run of michigan football no i do
know just the beginning i do need of course the broncos reached out about harbaugh like
guess what it we need to you know how they have like the january february iso shirts like we need
to i think we've talked about this every year yeah we need to do like the the november december
and then january is like harbaugh to the NFL or something. Rumors, whatever it is.
But I will say I need him like today to come out and be like, I'm staying.
Like I need him.
We can't do this again.
I need him to shut it down immediately.
He said it last week.
We can't have him flying to Minnesota to not get the job again
when they were ready to go.
He was out.
Yeah, we can't have this stuff going on so um
i would love like a tweet from him like he just comes out like hashtag committed go i'm not
fucking leaving yeah that's all right we did say like two years yeah if i get like if i get that
and then the uh the the blake quorumum notes app that says I'm coming back,
I'm like, that's all I need.
I will be immediately back in.
Not that I'm out at all.
That's the thing is I feel like if you're coming back,
that's when he'll have Bills or somebody do a graphic.
If I see a notes app, I'm going to be nervous.
That's where I'm like, all right, he's announcing he's leaving. I mean, I think Bills will probably do a graphic, if I see a notes app, I'm going to be nervous. That's where I'm like, all right, he's announcing he's leaving.
I mean, I think Bills will probably do a graphic anyway
because it'll be like a thank you to the team.
He might even take out an ad in the Michigan Daily or something,
like thank you to the fans.
You know how quarterbacks and players do that when they leave or retire or something? I did not the fans you know how quarterbacks and like like players do that
when they leave or retire or something i did not know that yeah that's awesome that's wild what do
we think about the game for next weekend is the magic gonna run out for tcu or go horn frogs baby
max duggan i want to see him just fucking do the same thing he did to michigan i wouldn't i wouldn't
mind that it would be mean, like, to lose
to the national champ twice in a row,
like, we're basically runner-up.
Yeah.
Just blow out Georgia.
That'd be great.
It did hurt a lot.
Like, well,
it raised just so many more what-ifs
that Ohio State played
as well as they did against Georgia because I was just like,
damn, that could be us.
Yeah, like what if we played Georgia?
Exactly.
That was immediately my thought was like, well.
Because last year it was just like Georgia just dominated, you know,
even in the natty, right?
But, like, this year it felt like winnable.
So, all right.
Well, I will continue to just be like thinking about what if
for the next, you know, I don't know.
We just need Michigan basketball men and women to just go on a fucking run.
Yes.
Like that's what we need.
I will be a stand for the next.
Pistons, Pistons, Red Wings, go on fucking runs, man.
The state of Michigan needs you.
I will not. Actually, you know what we need most is the Lions for a playoff game.
Fuck.
That's something to look forward to next weekend.
We need to beat the Packers, and then we need Seahawks to lose.
Yeah.
Jack, we need you to post your notes app on Twitter.
I'm coming out of retirement and trying out for the Lions.
I'm back, baby.
You're back. Where would I play, though?
They don't need a quarterback.
Play defensive coordinator?
Holder? Play defensive coordinator? Holder?
Holder? You can be the Hody. Hey, I've seen that
kick step. I don't know, man. Right guard?
Fa, fa, fa.
All right.
I'm another 100 pounds. year's new year's resolution i've got two so far very attainable
clean every day doesn't need to be a big thing could be like cleaning off your desk clean the
kitchen you know vacuum and uh cook at least one meal every day wow okay those are two very
that's a good january and dry january okay you're going
for it trying to start off the year on the on the right now i'm actually after this i'm about to go
out go for a little walk or something look at you trying to stay off of like social media and stuff
a little bit more i liked what nate was kind of talking about like maybe like check it in the
morning check it some other time let's see try a little reset here a little factory
