Hey, it's Sophia Wilson, athlete and gold medalist.
And this summer, my wardrobe is being perfected with Abercrombie's newest drop.
I'm a girl who loves jeans, and Abercrombie's new linen blend denim has changed the game for me.
They have that lightweight feel for summer.
But the outfits I live in all summer are matching sets.
They always look good and they give your wardrobe options.
Spend the summer in Abercrombie, shop in the app, online, and in stores.
All right, we're back.
Hi, John.
Hi.
In the wake of the killing in Minneapolis and the administration basically doubling down on their operations in Minneapolis and St. Paul, there was a ton of chaos over the weekend. I think it's worth taking people through what people are seeing there. I want to start with a video out of a gas station in St. Paul.
Stay back.
Stay back.
Stay back.
Stay back.
Stay back.
Stay back.
Stay back.
Back.
Back.
Back up, you guys.
That's the fucking bitches.
Stay back.
Stay back.
Don't say you.
Don't say you got.
Oh,
right.
Sorry?
I'm sorry.
I can't.
I can't.
Go.
Four, me.
Hurry up.
So there's two pieces of that video.
First, you have basically someone filming ICE agents.
Clearly, the agents are getting angrier and angrier.
He just lunges at this guy and then chases him.
And they all come in to some chase him and throw him in a car.
They release that guy later that night.
We also included the second part of that.
Because what you see is in the chaos of these moments,
you have a person in a car being directed to leave, but there's agents all around the car.
And put yourself in that situation.
And you're being told to move.
They're right next to your car.
You're looking around.
There's people all around.
You're afraid you're going to do the wrong thing.
You know somebody was shot and is now being accused of being a domestic terrorist because
after dropping their child off at school, he was clearly trying to get around somebody in a similar
circumstance.
What did you think?
I mean, first of all, you're allowed to film ICE agents.
It is completely legal.
The administration has basically now called that,
and ICE has called that like a threat.
It's threatening, but it's not.
The fact that they released the guy, the first guy,
shows that they couldn't have charged him with anything,
so he didn't commit any crime.
So basically what they did is they just assaulted him.
Yeah.
So federal law enforcement just decided to assault an individual who was filming them.
And also there's like eight of them.
You need that many agents.
I mean, the whole fucking thing is absurd that,
that we are somehow, and this goes back to like what everyone was doing last week,
that we're like parsing the different angles of the, and I get that, I did it myself too,
but like the whole thing is fucking absurd.
There's no need for this many ICE agents.
They're not doing targeted enforcement operations.
They are going after people.
They are basically delegitimizing the very idea of protest.
And of course, the second part about the person that was in the car,
this is what happens all the time when people are in car.
They get conflicting orders from ICE.
And I don't know if that's intentional.
I don't know if ICE is just not coordinating with each other, which certainly seems possible
as well.
But I said George Redis that happened to him.
There were early reports that had happened to Renee Good.
Unclear if it did.
But certainly in that situation, it wasn't get out of the car.
It was go.
So what are you supposed to do if you're in a car?
And suddenly you find yourself surrounded by a bunch of ICE agents.
I say agents who are radicalizing before eyes who are clearly angry and there's adrenaline.
Like the moment where that person like where the agent lunges at the camera, he's just angry.
He's angry.
Sick of being filmed, sick of having a camera in his face.
There's so many of them.
And what and I look, this is what.
Once the other agents see their officer now in some kind of a confrontation, they have to jump in.
And it's just all very escalatory. There's a, there's a video floating around of Bovino going into a bathroom at a target to take a piss. And he's just surrounded by agents. They like they, they, they phalanx him, uh, like he's in like a hostile war zone. And all of this just raises tension. Like these are people now, we are, they are now going into these places. The people are shouting at them rightfully so that they don't want them in their communities. And all of it is just a powder keg. Uh, and he,
And here and there we are seeing what happens. Let's go to the next one. This is somebody being
kind of threatened while very calmly in their car. And I think it's worth watching the details of what
it was like for this person.
Stop fucking following us. You are impeding operations. This is the United States federal government.
I live over here. I got to get to my house. This is your warning.
Got to get to my house. Go home to your kids. Go to church. Go to home to your kids.
This is your last morning. I serve the Lord.
I will arrest you. Go to church.
Let people, let the people.
I guarantee you're not going to like the outcome.
Go home to your children.
It's Sunday.
Yeah, exactly.
Let people go to church.
You did not learn from what just happened?
Go home to your kids.
So he says, do you not learn from what just happened?
It's the second video I've seen when someone says, didn't you learn from what?
Learn what?
If I don't listen to you and stop exercising my First Amendment rights, my right to just be a person in my own community, you're going to what, kill me?
That's the lesson.
And if you see this person is being told to stop, go home to your children, stop following us.
Now, they're starting to claim that like just following them to observe them is impeding.
They're claiming that's now a violation of law.
This person with a gun drawn on the other side of the car.
Why is the gun out?
And the other part of this is what you're seeing more and more, too, is the agents are all filming.
They don't have body cams or they're claiming they don't use the body cams.
Some of them may, some of that, I don't know.
But they're not releasing body cam footage, but they are filming.
And so now you have a bunch of what, agents that are, you know,
now all going to have their phones in one hand and their guns in the other, presumably, right?
Because instead of having body cams that will record everything objectively to release,
they will release subjectively whatever they fucking want from the phones.
We also have no idea what they're using for facial recognition and all those other things,
which go from sounding conspiratorial to seem obviously what is happening.
But now, they're now saying learn the lesson of what happened, which is if you don't, what,
follow an unlawful order, if you seem at all like you're annoying us, who knows what could happen?
Yeah, well, that's, I mean, they're using two sort of like broad legal standards, which is impeding
impeding law enforcement operation and stalking and using a vehicle as a deadly weapon, right?
Which is, so if you're in a car, any move you make in the car that they don't like, they can say,
oh, you've weaponized your vehicle. And if you're around ice and you're protesting or even
if you're not protesting, even if you just happen upon them,
they'll just say that anything you do that's annoying to them
is impeding their investigation
or impeding their enforcement operation.
So they can make that case if they want.
It's not like it's a real legal case.
Of course they can say that anyone's impeding
their investigation or impeding a law enforcement operation,
but like that doesn't mean it's true.
And also we just, all of this is a threat.
Inevitably, if they were actually to follow this to its conclusion,
Obviously, they are threatening you that you could be hurt, that you'll never get to that point.
And they're dropping lots of charges if they were to bring something like that.
But then at some point, some judge would say, what was it heated?
I don't know if you heard the Daily had an interview this morning with the chief of police in Minneapolis.
And this is a guy who came in right after George Floyd and basically had to like rebuild the whole Minneapolis police department because most of them left.
And has really focused on like de-escalation.
It was getting interviewed about this.
And so like, what did you think about, you know, the ICE officers?
He was like, well, first of all, like, it's basic training to never put yourself in front of a car like that.
It's also like even more important than that.
The training is to de-escalate in every situation possible because you want to build trust with the community.
And so whenever possible, you want to de-escalate.
And you want to go up to someone and say, name, registration, could you please step out?
This is why I'm pulling you over.
And you do that.
And then if someone asks you a question that's.
you know, even somewhat reasonable, you answer the question. And none of this is happening with
ICE. None of that. Because they don't want to de-escalate. Well, they don't want to de-escalate.
And it's so much about dominance, right? It's, they're not actually, like, they are, they have so
internalized this idea that they are, like, on a righteous crusade against a, like, a left and kind of
anti-American, you know, pro- undocumented immigrant sort of group of,
of like rabble rousers that they are now like they are like pilgrims in an unholy land which is
Minneapolis Minnesota you know I spent a lot of time now in Minneapolis my fiance is from
Minneapolis like it was hitting me today when I was just looking at all of this because
people from Minneapolis people from they love this place it is a special place it is a like a
kind place it's it's never been like you know you could have watched Fox News for less 20 years
they've not spent a lot of time up until they started villainizing Somali immigrants
saying that- And George Floyd.
And George Floyd.
But like that Minneapolis is not like on the top 10 list of right wing.
It's San Francisco, New York, right?
Like, L.A.
But like Minneapolis is just, it's never been the focus of national attention in this kind
of a prolonged way.
Like it just isn't that, it just, it's a place that seems like outside or like kind of
sort of not subject to this kind of like internecing like,
vitriol, right? It's just, it's, it's Minneapolis. It's like sweet com Minneapolis. And they are,
they've now sent what, like 2,000 more people. There's now, what, two or three times as many ice agents
in Minneapolis as there are police officers. Yeah. The other thing is if it, it was really about
enforcement and you were really just trying to target, you know, undocumented immigrants who
committed crimes or you think are a danger to the community or just people that you want to,
that are deportable. You don't announce that you're coming and that you're,
you're bringing thousands of, you know, federal agents, like, because that also is going to
tip off all the people. Like, if you want an effective enforcement operation, you slip in and you
find your targets and you do that. That's not what they're doing. They, they literally, the,
the day before Renee Good was murdered, they, Homeland Security announced on, on Twitter, on,
on Instagram, everywhere else, good morning Minneapolis. Like, we're sending what, like, they, they are,
someone said that it was it's basically force as propaganda and that that is what I mean so much of this is
they're they're filming for reasons to like you know get out selected clips and stuff like that but also
some of it's going to go out on on the government accounts oh yeah they're going to edit these things
together they're going they they were filming on on like nice cameras as bovino's leaving the target
bathroom like they're trying to put together look how we're under assault but we're doing you know
we're serving the country the white house put out a compilation
where one of the clips that they released was an ICE agent just tear gassing a protester who wasn't
doing anything. And they put that, the government put that out. In that video that we just saw,
the guy in the car is like, go to church. And one of the officers, as he's walking away, says,
make America safe again. And to your point, they're not de-escalating. But not only that,
they don't see themselves as serving the person in that car. They serve Donald Trump. A lot of them
have internalized that too because you know Jonathan Ross is a turns out as like a hardcore maga
Christian arguing this family on social media about the proud boys like this guy is everything you think
you know when JD Vance says we should be turning the temperature down it we never go to the next
like it's so absurd on its face but but then you think well on some level they're hypocrites
but hypocrisy is they're acknowledging what the value should be they're not going to live by them but they know what
they should be. But it is worth thinking about, like, what would they be saying if they really were
trying to turn the temperature down, right? And it would be about, hey, look, we love Minneapolis and the
people of Minneapolis. Yeah. Right. And we're, you know, we're going after the worst of the worst and
we respect the right to protest. And we, and we're sorry if this is inconveniencing you if you're
feel as though, you know, you feel as though you're like, you know, feel like insecure because of
this. We don't mean that. Like, look, we want to work with you, right? Like, there's a host of things
they could be saying and doing, obviously, more important. But that's not what's happening.
Here's a confrontation that took place at a target. And this is, again, there's such a strange
part of this now, which is I believe what we should be doing, like when you see random videos
floating around the internet, try to run them down. Like, has a journalist looked at this?
What does the government said about this? But it is increased. First of all, there's too much.
And journalism, local has been decimated. And you can't trust the government. So you
really are now forced to just watch yourself
and watch as other people piece together.
These videos, which is a dangerous thing.
But we have this, this moment is now captured,
as always, in multiple angles.
And we now have footage of a kid being arrested at a target,
which is harrowing enough.
And then in the manner of any kind of right-wing fascistic
kind of paramilitary style is then thrown out of the car
a few hours later.
And let's watch it.
Hey, what are you?
Hey, fuck.
You guys are all on video.
John Noghe Garcia.
I'm literally a U.S. citizen.
Give us a phone number.
Get the fuck out of your race.
Why are you kidnapping?
What's the phone number we should call?
That's my mom.
Yeah.
And your first name's Christian, right?
This guy right here, they let him out of the vehicle.
They court through him.
This guy?
This guy right here, yeah.
You're okay, man?
No, I'm not okay.
Bro, that's...
Shit's crazy.
My man's bleeding.
Bleeding.
They slammed me on the ground.
We gotta be able to call somebody.
That one really got me.
Jesus.
The, you know, in the response to the Renee Good killing, they're obviously lying and they're maligning this person.
Even on its face, right?
So your position is that she dropped her kid off at school and then decided to commit murder.
Like that was the plan.
Like it's obviously ridiculous.
But it actually is, I think to me, a larger, it is their way of thinking, which is there is no amount of force that can't be justified.
And also, by the way, like how they feel is what matters the most.
feel threatened, even if they created the circumstance, that they have an endless amount of
like generosity and like, um, uh, and consideration for people that they view as on their team, right?
But then for somebody like this, right, for something, nothing, absolutely nothing.
That no, no, it was, we, we had a feeling. We had a hunch for a second. This guy was not
extremely immediately and completely compliant. So it is justified having a dozen people
bash him to the ground, throw him into a car to verify he's a same.
citizen and then throw them out of a Walmart parking lot. We're just doing our jobs. We're just trying
to enforce our immigration laws, right? There's no like, there's no sense of consideration.
There's 100% total consideration for someone on their team, zero consideration for anybody who
might disagree with them. I mean, the Department of Homeland Security just posted about this and
said, oh, he, you know, under 18C, blah, blah, whatever, he impeded a law enforcement operation.
Well, then why did you throw him out of a van instead of charging him? It's just like it's all,
It's all lies and they don't even care if they're good lies now.
Yeah.
They just want, it is, it's, it's, we're going to use force.
And I even think, aside from broadcasting it, which they love to do, even those ICE agents, when they went into Target, whatever happened, they realized that like, they can't let if this guy was like yelling at them or they can't let it go because other people are watching.
And so they need to show dominance.
Yeah.
And so once they get the guy in the van and they realize, oh, sure.
shit. We don't have anything to charge him with. And he's a U.S. citizen. Well, let's beat him up a little bit,
throw him out of a van. And, you know, the difficulty of suing them or taking them to court is that
these guys have, you know, they don't have absolute immunity like J.D. Vant says, but they have
qualified immunity. And so it's really difficult to sue them successfully as George Redis is
found out, is finding out now. Because if they are doing their job,
job, they're in an official capacity and they're doing their job, they have a lot more leeway than they
should. The other thing that's happening to is that wherever these people are now going in
Minneapolis, they're being hectored, right? If they're on the streets, if they're in a public
place, people are now coming out and yelling at them. And there is something that is happening
where, first of all, they're being trained for shorter and shorter periods of time. There's a moment
where Mark Warner is pointing this out to a kind of a CNBC panel that that tends to not want to
describe Trump as he actually is and more like the kind of smooth operator who is always
kind of playing chess behind the scenes.
They're being trained for 47 days because he's the 47th president.
That's ridiculous and defensible.
And you have these poorly trained people, a lot of whom are being recruited via these sort of
right-wing propaganda.
They have an idea in their mind of what it's going to be like.
It isn't like that.
That's the other thing I do think is happening.
If you, the anger you're hearing for all the, I am sure, ways in which they are kind of
telling a story about what's happening to each other and from above, right?
A lot of, it's amazing how often Bovino is in these clips.
He is there.
It's intentional.
You can see it like they are feeling the difference between the idea of enforcing immigration
laws in this way and the actual experience of it and what it's like to have your fellow
Americans looking at and say like, fuck you.
Like, fuck you for being here.
fuck you for doing this. And I do think that is creating, like, it's making this tension worse.
But I do think it's like, you can see it that there's this, that some of this anger is the delta
between what they thought it would feel like and what it feels like to be like this inside of an
American city. And there is like a little bit of a of a kernel of like hope inside like the reality
of this is so brutal and so gruesome and so ugly. It's why Homeland Security is putting out
all these videos trying to explain it and defend it. They know that this is not good. Like, they can do all the
bluster they want. They know that the American people do not like seeing this happen in American city.
Yeah. That's why they have to lie all the time. Let's just end with this one moment. Just to give you a
sense, too, about the kind of, like, strange and, like, fiscistic propaganda that the administration
is putting out. This is something that the Department of Labor put out. Let's see, let's see this.
I just don't know who that's for. I don't, like, that's for such a now.
slice of their most online groiper base.
Yes.
It's just very, I don't know.
Yeah.
I see that and I'm not like,
like the videos really disturb me.
That's I'm like, that's fucking weird.
Yeah, it is really weird.
I just, that the people in charge of social media
for various government agencies
are fully right-wing online white nationalist pill people
putting out this content.
If they're not in there,
