Today, the Warriors dynasty remains alive, in large part because of a scrawny six foot two hooper who everyone seems to love. Starting point is 00:02:09 founding partner of iHeart Women's Sports. The best things in life are on the other side of difficult conversations. But if we're honest, most people run from them, staying silent, missing chances, and holding themselves back. I know this is true because I used to be like that until I realized that negotiation isn't a talent. It's a skill that anyone can learn.
Starting point is 00:02:27 And once I did, everything changed. I went from people pleaser to confident communicator. And now I teach Fortune 500 leaders and top executives how to do the same. Listen to negotiate anything on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. It's a special day on this podcast because it's awkward to be alone. how to do the same. Listen to negotiate anything on the iHeartRadio app, Apple podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. It's a special day on this podcast because it's Awkward Tuesday. Yay!
Starting point is 00:02:51 Yeah, but don't be fooled. It is the second date update podcast with Brooke and Jeffrey. And I'm just going to say one of our listeners was about to empty out their entire savings account to make their big dream happen. It all started when they made one viral TikTok video. And anyway, it turned into a thing, and you're about to hear the thing in just a second.
Starting point is 00:03:10 But let's go to comments. Yeah, Daniella said, I've been listening since I was seven, and I'm 22 now, and I will never stop. Dang! Yeah, and I've always wanted to meet Jeff in the wild, but I don't think that'll happen, considering he hates going in public.
Starting point is 00:03:24 That's true. I haven't even been'll happen considering he hates going in public. That's right. I haven't even been on the show that long. Yeah, you could catch him at a rest stop or a grocery store. Those are usually his two hangouts. Yeah, that's about it. In the woods, maybe I'll run into him somewhere out there. Or randomly at dive bars.
Starting point is 00:03:36 Yeah. He really likes a dive bar that plays karaoke. Oh, karaoke for sure. Yeah, yeah. That's his favorite. Those are your hot spots to find Jeffery out there. Good luck out there. Now that you're 22, you can go to all those places. Yeah. All right Yeah, it's his favorite. Those are your hot spots to find Jeffrey. Good luck out there. Now that you're 22, you can go to all those places.
Starting point is 00:03:47 All right, let's get your awkward Tuesday phone call started. How do you tell someone that you love that their dreams are definitely not gonna happen and you do not support them? Oh, wow, that's hard. Brooke, didn't you put that in your wedding vows somewhere? I did not. I could have sworn after your sister-in-law played the violin.
Starting point is 00:04:06 No! She did play the violin, but I did not have that in my vows. Interesting. Well, one of our listeners is having that very problem with her boyfriend. Oh, maybe Brooke can help. Come on! He's about to empty out their entire savings account to make his big dream happen. And it all started when he made one viral TikTok video. We're gonna hear all about it and then try and convince the boyfriend
Starting point is 00:04:34 to give up on his dreams in a brand new Awkward Tuesday phone call. Next. It's awkward. It's Tuesday. It's Awkward Tuesday phone call. It's awkward Tuesday phone call. We've been doing our show for a while now. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:04:49 And we have a lot of people listening to us and I think there's certain moments for each person in this room that really stand out as our most famous thing that we've done on the show. Oh. Do I have one? That's not voting well for you, bro. I'm waiting for like 30 years and you can't think of one big moment?
Starting point is 00:05:07 You know, it all kind of blends together after a while. All right. Well, like one that really stood out for me that I remember was when I did a parody song about IKEA and IKEA headquarters in Sweden actually made all of their employees learn the song and sing it at a big company event. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:05:24 They did? Yeah, did you not see that video? Oh my God. It was crazy, all these Swedish people singing this American song. I totally remember that, yeah. No wonder I don't remember our big moments. I missed that video.
Starting point is 00:05:33 Now every time I go into Ikea, all the workers give me side eye, like that's the guy that made us the most. Oh. But apparently one of our listeners, Beth, has a semi-famous boyfriend. Oh, has he been on this show? We're all about semi-famous boyfriend. Oh We're all about semi-famous, I don't think so, but she is having some issues with their new fame
Starting point is 00:05:53 How's it going? Okay, I mean I'm curious who this guy is cuz sometimes fame and infamy can be mixed up like yeah He's not famous for like a mugshot or anything. Right. No, it's not a mug shot. But yeah, my boyfriend, Josh, went viral like six months ago. Yeah. So basically it's got like five million views. Like this one video went crazy and it's him throwing up yogurt in the air and then catching it back in his mouth. and it's him throwing up yogurt in the air and then catching it back in his mouth. Oh.
Starting point is 00:06:28 What in the heck? That got five million views? And you wanna date this guy? Yeah. Are you dating him before that happened or after? No, we were dating before he went viral, but. Oh, okay. So you're not just in it for the fame clearly you're like
Starting point is 00:06:45 grandma wait till you see my boyfriend it's funny cuz I'm like cringing but then I'm also like I bet he makes so much more money than I do now I mean it is kind of its skills to be able to catch all that yogurt in your mouth I guess okay just going viral in general no matter what it's about it always leads to more opportunities you blow your page up, now you have advertising. Yeah. Now Chobani wants to endorse you. Yeah, legit.
Starting point is 00:07:09 Is that what's happening? Is he really famous now? Well, I mean, the initial video was wild and then he did a follow-up one that got like, I don't know, 100,000 views and he just, I think like he's more invested in it than like it's actually gonna be a thing. Okay, so he's trying to catch that fame.
Starting point is 00:07:25 Yeah, right. The wave. Yeah, yeah. It's like it was like about a week after the videos came out. He started referring to himself in the third person. Oh, yeah. And Daddy Gert. He's got to be he's joking, right? He's not being serious. So, I mean, initially, I'm like, OK, he's just like playing it up. But this is like he's trying to make himself this brand
Starting point is 00:07:49 Daddy Gert Daddy Gert. Yeah, he's like constantly using ridiculous phrases like go Gert or go home and I pointed out I kind of like it though. Yeah, but go Gert's a thing That's successful I kind of like it though. Yeah, but Gogurt's a thing already. Gogurt's already a thing. Exactly. They're not that successful of a company, are they? You know, I told him about that, but he got real flustered by it. At that point, I just really understood that he's taking this so seriously.
Starting point is 00:08:15 OK. So are you calling for relationship advice? Because I have some thoughts. I think all the girls are like, just break up with him. What made you reach out to us for help? Yeah. So the video caught a lot of views in Austria. And so the big thing now is he wants to go to Austria and do a live appearance and bring
Starting point is 00:08:40 merch. So basically the big problem is he wants to take $15,000 of our life savings and just like go for this empire he's trying to build. He wants to take 15 grand of your guys' joint money to do it? Yes. Oh my God.
Starting point is 00:08:57 And you don't believe in his Gert empire. You're not on board the Gert train? No, I mean, I just, I really need to convince him like to not do that. And it's just, I'm in a hard spot because like, I don't want it to turn into a huge fight. It's definitely a bad idea, but you know, I've just been listening to him and he's like telling me
Starting point is 00:09:19 all of these plans and it's just like making me very worried. Have you voiced any of your concern to Daddy Gert? I mean, I just I call my best friend and I vent to her. But with him, I haven't gone there because I just know it's not going to end well. Well, I'm sure in his head he's thinking, oh, yeah, well, 15 grand up front. And then once I go there, we can make 30 grand off of all the appearances. But if he doesn't, if it's not a hit then you're gonna be out Has anyone from Austria contacted him like any agents or I mean serious like brands or something like cuz maybe he's right Maybe there's something over there for him
Starting point is 00:09:57 I mean, he basically just tells me that he's contacted a bunch of different people and he's working on some things But I just I don't even know what that means. Yeah it could be anything. Sounds like you're about to be in a relationship with a famous yogurt man. Yeah well it worked out for John Stamos. What did he do? He was the yogurt mascot for a while or like the Giovanni dude. I never knew that. Worked for him. I don't think yogurt marketing hits very I mean now he was already famous But she doesn't want that Beth doesn't want daddy Gert to I think realize fame more than anything She's want daddy Gert to take 15 G from her bank We're gonna talk about this a little bit off the air
Starting point is 00:10:41 We'll come back give you a little bit of advice and we'll let you call your boyfriend daddy Gert and try and convince him to not seize his 15 minutes of fame and just move on go back to his normal boring life. Oh boy. Yeah I just think that's gonna be for the best. Who would have thought yogurt would have made anyone's life more exciting? Yeah. All right we're gonna do it with your Awkward Tuesday phone call next. It's Awkward. It's Tuesday. It's Awkward Tuesday phone call. Alexis, I want to ask you theoretically, if you're dating a great guy, he's fun, he has
Starting point is 00:11:17 a good job. This already is unrealistic. He buys you all the gifts that you could possibly want and then one time he makes a video of himself Tossing yogurt in the air and catching it in his mouth and goes viral for it. Could you still Support him and be with him after that or is that the ultimate ditch? You know what's worse than that might be making his own t-shirts. That's such an ick Oh, you don't like them making up the t-shirts That's pretty bad for me
Starting point is 00:11:44 That might do it over the video No! Oh, you don't like them making up the t-shirts? That's pretty bad for me. You don't like them making up the t-shirts? That might do it over the video. I know. It felt like he was trying to go viral with it. It just happened accidentally and he's leaning in. I've decided that I'm pro-gurt, which also should probably go on one of his t-shirts or mug surivises. Pro-gurt?
Starting point is 00:11:59 Not the shirts? I am pro-gurt. He sounds like a probiotic yogurt. That's not what Beth wants. No. Beth wants her boyfriend, Daddy Gert, to have his Gert dreams die right here and now. And Brooke, do you have some advice for what she should do? You know, this is hard for you
Starting point is 00:12:13 because you haven't actually expressed your real feelings about this at all. Yeah. Because it was fine before when it was his money. Now it's your money that he's also trying to invest in this. And that's when you need to say, listen, I've been saving your feelings, but we've crossed the line where I need to tell you how I really feel.
Starting point is 00:12:33 That's gonna hurt him. Dude, it's her money. It's 15 grand. You are right. Are you comfortable with that, Beth, being honest with your boyfriend? You know, I feel like we're at the crossroads where if I don't do it now,
Starting point is 00:12:45 like I'm gonna get sucked into this yogurt thing for good. Yeah. You're gonna be part of the Gert empire and you don't wanna be. Jose, what do you think Beth should do? Just tell him this. Do you really wanna go to a place where there's openly rude people and dog poop everywhere?
Starting point is 00:13:01 What? What? Okay, I googled bad facts about Austria, and those were two of many things why you wouldn't wanna ever go to Austria. I've heard Austria is one of the most beautiful countries in the world. Brooke, can I help you? No, no, Brooke.
Starting point is 00:13:14 Beth, can you forward him a link to badaustrianfacts.com? I'm gonna collect my list of negatives along with the whole spitting up yogurt. Oh. Yeah, yeah, exactly. All right, we have some advice there. I'm not going to call it great advice. No, it's nice.
Starting point is 00:13:30 But it is. It's hopefully helpful. We're going to dial Daddy Gert right now, your boyfriend, and let you have your conversation with him. You ready? Yeah, but do you mind just calling him Josh, please? OK, fine, Beth. This is your awkward Tuesday phone call,
Starting point is 00:13:45 so I guess we'll call him just Josh. We're gonna call boring old Josh and let you make your awkward call. Here we go. (*phone ringing*) You got good, who's this? Hey, it's me. Hey, babe, What's up?
Starting point is 00:14:07 Hey, nothing. I just wanted to know if you had a few minutes to chat. Yeah, what's going on? I got a video to do, but let's talk. Oh, okay. Another yoga video? Yeah, you know. Making that moolah.
Starting point is 00:14:23 Yeah, I'm glad that you brought that up. Um, are those videos make money now? I mean, it's investment. So yeah, eventually, eventually, don't worry, baby. Wow. I just before we get into this empire, I just kind of wanted to talk about the $15,000. I am just, I'm not sure I'm quite comfortable spending that kind of wanted to talk about the $15,000. I'm just, I'm not sure I'm quite comfortable spending that kind of money.
Starting point is 00:14:49 Yeah, but babe, we've talked about this. This is how it works. You got to spend money to make money, babe. I'm not just a artist. I'm also an entrepreneur. So if you want to get to Gertopia, you got to pay the toll, you feel me? Okay, okay, but that's the problem. I don't want to get to Gertopia, you got to pay the toll. You feel me? Okay. Okay.
Starting point is 00:15:06 But that's the problem. I don't, I don't want to go there. No one wants to go to Gertopia. Okay. Just hear me out. I wouldn't have to do my job anymore. Okay. You could quit your job.
Starting point is 00:15:17 You can manage me. We'd have a lifetime supply of yogurt in the fridge from the highest bidder. There are so many things. Okay. But like these are all really fun dreams to have, but like, let's just be realistic for a minute here. Okay, hold on. I think I am being realistic because this can be huge and I know what I'm feeling.
Starting point is 00:15:36 I want to support you. I do. I want you to follow your dreams, but it's just so much money and I just hope it's a good time. Okay, look, it's too late. So I already bought the plane tickets to Vienna and- No, you didn't.
Starting point is 00:15:54 Yeah, you didn't. Look, two months from now, babe. What? No, no, no, no. You did not spend our money without asking me. No, I didn't use our money. I asked your parents if they'd invest and your dad wrote me a check for five grand.
Starting point is 00:16:09 They, you what? Oh my God. Who is this? What is going on? Hey man, we're on the radio right now with Brooke and Jeffrey in the morning. Excellent opportunity to promote your business. Don't encourage it.
Starting point is 00:16:23 Well, at this point we're in Alexis. We're all invested. Oh my god. What is going on right now? Well, this is called an awkward Tuesday phone call and Beth reached out to us because she wasn't sure how to have this conversation with you about not spending $15,000 on the trip to Austria because... Babe, are you serious right now? Of course I'm serious. It's a lot of money to throw into Daddy Gert, Gertopia. No, no, no, no. Are you serious that you just got us hella promotion right now? Oh, please. You're excited. You're liking this. He's always thinking of business.
Starting point is 00:17:03 See, I told you Beth, you gotta be straight with Daddy Gert. I told you that you can manage this and this is crazy. Thank you for this by the way. Beth, you're better at managing his Gert life than you even realize you were. Yeah, look at you! I didn't mean for this to be a positive thing. Like this was supposed to be a wake up call for you. I didn't want to tell you be a positive thing. Like this was supposed to be a wake up call for you. I didn't want to tell you like this, but this is actually great because what's going to happen is I wanted to surprise you with the trip
Starting point is 00:17:33 and we're going to go and we're going to have so much fun. And Daddy Gert is going to spoil you rotten. No, no, her dad is going to spoil her rotten because he's the one paying for this. How did you convince her parents to give you $5,000? Seriously, I don't want to know. Her parents know that I'm going to double that, triple that. And for your information, I already got an appearance lined up with an Austrian rollerblading company. They like the idea of eating on the go.
Starting point is 00:18:03 Like Gogurt. The same business plan as Gogurt. But Austrian. Rollgurt. Rollgurt, yeah, Rogurt. Oh! Please don't encourage him, guys. You're not helping right now.
Starting point is 00:18:16 I don't see how we can. I mean, even your parents see the merit in Gertopia. Yeah. You're being sarcastic. It is a terrible idea. I'm not being sarcastic. I am sorry, Josh. This is a, it sounds like a fun trip.
Starting point is 00:18:27 It sounds like you're not having to pay both positives, but this is not like your career. It's just one viral TikTok video. It doesn't really mean that much. With over 6 million views on it. What? That doesn't just happen for a one-off thing. This is a business waiting to explode.
Starting point is 00:18:44 It literally always happens for a one-off thing. This is a business waiting to explode. It literally always happens for a one-off thing. I mean, she's got to buy into my dream because I have a dream and that's what we do as spouses. We got to support our loved ones. Dude, you guys are spouses? You're married now? I mean, in my mind, I mean, this is all part of the grand master plan.
Starting point is 00:19:01 Wow. You get rich and you can afford a wedding. You could be the future Mrs. Daddy G plan. Wow. Wow. You get rich and you can afford a wedding. I mean, yeah. You could be the future Mrs. Daddy Gert. Wow. Mommy Gert. Mama Gert. Yeah. Mama Gert does not sound sexy.
Starting point is 00:19:12 It does not. It's literally like, I didn't know that you could get worse than Daddy Gert and you just didn't. I'm like at a complete loss for words because. I get it. There's a lot is happening here. We probably need some time for process
Starting point is 00:19:25 Let's just focus on one thing the trip that is already booked. It's happening already paid for by your parents It'd be really fun to go to Austria. I agree. I think you just go there and you see what happens Beth. What do you say? I Chose I mean it's already paid for right? So I'll go only with you this one time. Okay. This is, oh my God. Oh my God. We're doing this and you know what?
Starting point is 00:19:57 And you're gonna, and you're gonna get me a puppy. Let me get back a puppy. We do know there's lots of dogs there. There's lots of poop. Okay. Why do you want to eat a puppy, Beth? You just just want a puppy she wants something in it for herself Oh my god, I got a great idea to a dog yogurt. Oh my god Dogger Doger Yeah, there it is
Starting point is 00:20:22 That actually may be a good business plan And you can name your dog squirt I need my dog bagel. Yeah Nobody's called you for a bagel endorsement have they Okay guys I got to do this video so I got oh gotcha Want you to know we believe in you daddy Gert. Okay? Don't realize your dreams. Dill Gert may be a hit, honestly. Now Brooke wants to invest. Brooke and Jeffrey in the morning.
