Starting point is 00:03:04 I mean... I'm going to start counting. One. Two, go ahead. We need to make one of our listeners famous. Yes. Read their comment.
Starting point is 00:03:12 Or, you know, make them... Infamous? I use famous in quotes, Alexis, okay? Or they'll change their name. Well, Mariana commented and it said, hello from the UK. I had a carpenter in my house fixing my door while I was working
Starting point is 00:03:25 and listening to the show. When he finished, He asked, what am I listening to? He's never heard anything like it. I don't know if that's a good or bad thing. I don't either. It's really funny. How do they allow it on the air?
Starting point is 00:03:38 He reviews the customer. She's unhinged. Well, you know what? Turn it up for all of your handymen around the house. Your awkward Tuesday starts right now. Everyone knows about brocode. But what about lady laws? Nobody calls it that, too.
Starting point is 00:03:56 No? The gal guide? I like me. The she scrolls. It's getting like older and older. Yeah, the she lady scrolls. Yeah, the she lady scrolls. From the dead she.
Starting point is 00:04:08 Well, whatever it's called, it does exist. And it's standing in the way of our listener finding out the truth about what really happened when his girlfriend went on a trip with a bunch of her friends. Uh-oh. This isn't good. He knows something happened, and he needs our help getting the answers before his relationship falls about. part. You're going to hear it in your brand new Awkward Tuesday phone call. Next. It's awkward.
Starting point is 00:04:34 It's Tuesday. It's awkward Tuesday phone call. I think we all know what happens on boys' trips. Oh. Grown men sipping sparkling water with tiny umbrellas, comparing essential oils, debating the correct way to fold a linen napkin. Oh, man. Yep. Things get pretty wild on all the.
Starting point is 00:04:57 The guy getaways I've attended. Jeff, that is not ever what I've done. It's going to make a lot of girlfriends happy here. I'm not going to get into the origami tickle fights. Whoa. Is that after you guys do the fitted sheet fight? It's a boy's secret, Brooke. We're not allowed to share it.
Starting point is 00:05:12 But on the other hand, girls trips, those are a little bit more of a mystery. I don't think anybody knows what goes on. Yeah, what girls do? You just disappear. Yeah, the same stuff, Justin. Uh-oh. Not as hard as we do it. Yeah, you can't.
Starting point is 00:05:27 old origami like, we can. No, but we can plan a dinner to blow your minds, I'll tell you that. Doubtful. But our listener, Mick, says his girlfriend took a girl's trip recently, and now there's an issue. Uh-oh. Oh, no. Maybe shouldn't have jumped in with fun right away, Brooke. I mean, it's probably fun for her.
Starting point is 00:05:43 She had a great time. Yeah. I don't know how Mick feels about it. Mick, welcome to the show, dude. Um, hi. Well, that was a lot for you, Mick. That was, um, I realized I may have been doing guy's trips wrong. Oh, so you're looking for an invite for Jeffrey's next weekend.
Starting point is 00:06:02 I'm not certain of that. I just need to consider it. Okay. Well, I'll invite you to Napa when we have an opening. What made you reach out to our show for help? So, my girlfriend, her name's Adrian, we've been dating
Starting point is 00:06:18 for like a year now. Okay. She still does stuff with, like, her friends and stuff, which is, you know, like... Healthy? Hopefully she does that forever. everybody does. You don't just like stop hanging out with people. I can't believe she still has friends. No, they went on a trip together recently.
Starting point is 00:06:33 Uh-huh. And like, normally she gets back and like, she's really cool, but this time, I don't know, something's different. I'll ask her about it and, like, she doesn't say anything about it. She just says it's fine and tries to change the subject. Do you know, was there any, like, girl drama? Like, was there some fights on the trip? Maybe she's upset about him?
Starting point is 00:06:51 You know, if there was, I'd love to know. But no one's told me. thing have you like i talked to her friends okay i was going to ask yeah what they say they haven't said anything either they say if she wants to talk about it she can but they can't oh those were the words that they used that's a red flag right there way to throw her under the bus yeah that's actually not a great friend how did you feel hearing that response from the friends it makes me think that something happened but i don't i have no idea what okay wouldn't say it like that if something didn't happen. I mean, at least an origami paper cut, but usually it doesn't, like, what's the first thing
Starting point is 00:07:29 that you're most worried about? I'm worried she got hurt. Oh, what? Wait. Oh, what? That's what? Okay, what's the second thing you're worried about? Like, like, I'm kind of worried about cheating, but, you know, like, people party. Things get wild. I mean, have you seen her? I feel like you would know pretty quickly if she was badly injured. Yeah. No, and I've tried, like, ever since she got I'm like, hey, do you want to do dinner? Do you want to do lunch? Do you want to, like, see a movie or something? And she's just like, no, I'm busy.
Starting point is 00:08:02 I've got something going on. It's almost like she's ghosting you. She didn't even want to ride from the airport. Yeah. Like, she's still responding, so that's good. Okay. How long has it been since your girlfriend got back from the girls' trip? It's almost been a week.
Starting point is 00:08:17 And normally we hang out right after so I can get an update. Six days not seeing someone when you're in a one-year relationship. is wild. You know each other well enough. Alexis, he's not giving like clingy boyfriend vibes, though, just a tiny bit. Borderline, but I'll let it tell us. It's possible. It just feels like she left as one
Starting point is 00:08:36 version of herself, but came back as another. I just want to know what's going on. Like, what happened? Yeah. And who the real her really is. Oh. Unmasker. Yeah. How many versions of her are there?
Starting point is 00:08:50 Well, there can be a lot. Okay. So the reason that you reached out to us. I'm just wanting to clarify, you want to call your girlfriend here and what are you hoping to get done? I want to know what happened if I can or at least figure out when we could meet to find out. For sure. So that's going to be our challenge here. We're going to reach out to someone who is hesitant to come out with a lot of information. We need to figure out some advice for Mick here to help him get her to open up. Oh, and I can't wait to hear the tea about this girl's trip. I know. I mean, honestly.
Starting point is 00:09:23 Or maybe help our listener. Maybe that should be important. Both things can be true, Jeff. I'm ready for a good story time. Yes. Entercaining and help. We'll try to accomplish both when we do your awkward Tuesday phone call right after this. Hold on.
Starting point is 00:09:38 It's awkward. It's Tuesday. It's awkward Tuesday phone call. Girls trips. What really goes on when women spend a weekend together? The girls know, Jeff. Is it all just innocent pillow fights and wine tastings and gossip under the moonlight? Or is there a more sinister side to a lady's layaway?
Starting point is 00:10:00 Oh, man. Like deciding who gets a king-sized bed at the rental house? Yeah, and who's sleeping with the king. Okay, you're right. They're all queen-sized beds. Sure. But that is the question that our listener, Mick, has. What happened on the girls' weekend? Because his girlfriend, Adrian, went on a trip with a book.
Starting point is 00:10:21 bunch of her gal pals came back and ever since hasn't willingly spoken with him hasn't seen him yeah hasn't hung out with him at all he even reached out to her friends to ask what happened and this may be the worst part yeah their answer was uh it's not really our place to tell you oh that's the worst and that also makes me think the girls want him to know because if they were yeah at his back they would just be like oh what are you talking about right they would lie to make him feel good but they didn't do that they put him into this limbo so as you can explain Mick is totally freaked out. He's turned to us for advice because she clearly does not want to open up to him about it.
Starting point is 00:10:58 We need to help bring down those walls. So, Brooke, what's your advice for Mick? So easy. Really? Speculate something even worse that could have happened. So then it's easy for her to confess whatever it actually is. So you say, listen, I talked to your friends. They said you had to tell me my mind's going crazy.
Starting point is 00:11:18 Did you kill someone? Because that's what I'm taking. Right to murder. Then she feels comfortable to say, no, it's not that. Mick, are you comfortable questioning your girlfriend on a potential homicide? I think that's genius. I was scared of something else, but this is a much better way to break the ice on that. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:11:40 I'm shocked that you would actually think that's a good idea. Are you kidding? That's incredible. If I accused her of cheating, that's just an. instant fight whether she did it or not. No, but yeah, accusing her of murdering a stranger. If she didn't murder someone, like, where are you
Starting point is 00:11:58 supposed to even go from that? You want to confuse her. Yeah, she'll totally trust you then. Plus, like, accidental deaths happen all the time. Have you killed someone before, maybe? Why are you so happy about this? You know what? Let's not even get into it. And frankly, I don't
Starting point is 00:12:14 think we should give any more advice after this. So let's just, let's dial Adrian for you. Hopefully she answers our number. Thank you so much. I would take a deep breath before you do this. Try to go in with a level head, but we got your back if you need us. I'm going to dial it right now. Here we go. Hello?
Starting point is 00:12:36 Uh, hey, it's, uh, it's me. Um, how are you? Who? Who are you? What, like, whose phone are you calling from? It's just, like, you haven't really been responding to me. So, like, I kind of figured maybe a different number would maybe get me the opportunity to talk to you.
Starting point is 00:13:02 Because, like, I haven't seen you. And, like, I'm your boyfriend, so why won't you talk to me? Yeah. Sorry. I am just kind of in the middle of something right now, though, but. Oh, like, okay. I'm sorry about that but like I miss you like again you just haven't talked to me all week and like usually when you like it's got to be the trip right because usually you come back and I get to hear about like what you've done and I just haven't you haven't said anything about it and I just don't know what's going on so if you could please talk to me I don't like you went on a trip for a weekend you You left, like, we were talking, we were having fun, and now you're back, and I haven't heard a word about anything that, like, means anything for a week now.
Starting point is 00:13:56 So what happened? Okay, you need to just, first of all, calm the fuck down, please, okay? So let's start there. Sorry. Let's take a breath, okay? Well, things happen, things change, so. I'm not going to yell but what
Starting point is 00:14:20 things because like I talked to your friends and they said that you should be the one to tell me about it and that makes me worried you should not be talking to my friends do you even hear yourself right now like I'm friends with them too
Starting point is 00:14:38 who are you I don't really feel like Adrian to me right now no I'm someone who realizes their worth, actually. What does that mean? Are you mad at me? Did I do something? Like, please, just tell me, please.
Starting point is 00:14:58 What is going on? It's nothing you did. Okay. Well, if you're not going to tell me, your friends won't say, I'm worried you did something you regret. I never cheated on you if that's what you're implying. Not once.
Starting point is 00:15:17 Wait, what? Hold on. No, it wasn't, I, I, what happened? Okay, okay, I'll tell you this. There was another guy on the trip who did pay a lot of attention to me. Okay, I, like, do I know him? No, he's kind of famous. What are you talking about?
Starting point is 00:15:40 Famous? Sort of. Well, it was two seasons ago. He was on The Bachelorette. Okay, okay, so, so what? So he flirted with me. And it just made me question things. Like, if I settled and am I dating down?
Starting point is 00:16:04 Because he was like ripped. Oh, gosh. Okay, yeah. Nick. Have her finish that sentence. Who are the other? Other people listening? Are you on speaker with people?
Starting point is 00:16:18 Nobody flurber with her. She's very susceptible. I guess, yeah. These are... So you're dating down? Hold on, Mick. Hold on. Hold on.
Starting point is 00:16:26 Let's help Adrian understand what's going on here. So you're on the radio. This is called an awkward Tuesday phone call. The reason Mick is on with us is because he was worried about your behavior after you got back from the girl's trip. And apparently it was for good reason that he was concerned. So, like, nothing else happened. That was it.
Starting point is 00:16:45 No, I told you, and I wouldn't do that. I'm not that girl. I'm not a cheater. Okay, you're just one step shy. That's kind of nice. But she didn't do anything. Getting down, that's like the part I can't get over. I said dating down question mark.
Starting point is 00:17:01 I was asking myself, am I? I wasn't saying that as a statement or that I decided that. I'm just thinking about it. I'm being honest with you. You wanted honesty. I'm being honest with you. But you get how that would suck, right? like to hear
Starting point is 00:17:15 totally but on her side Mick a famous person flirted with her and you could understand how that might change your mindset right that guy is not famous I can guarantee you you could tell us his name and there's no way anyone in any room would ever know what he was
Starting point is 00:17:32 the villain of the show too you don't even know all the villains are always the hottest like do you even remember how many rounds he made it or like I'm not talking about him I'm not talking about him not with these people on the phone we just have to focus more on Adrian. So your mind is you're questioning where you're at in your relationship right now. Which is a normal
Starting point is 00:17:50 experience at the one year mark. I mean, Bachelorette contestants be damned, right? But at the same time, Agent, you still are in this relationship with Mick. You've been together a year. He deserves some communication. Absolutely. Will said. Yeah, and I miss you. I want to see you. I feel like if we
Starting point is 00:18:06 could see each other and talk this out, things could just be different. And he was talking to a normal tone of voice, too. Yeah. It is really high. Adrian, what do you think about that? This is like so much. Okay, look, we can still date and, like, hang out and whatever, but I'm, I just have to be totally honest with you. Uh-oh.
Starting point is 00:18:27 But I've been thinking, and I do really want to be on a reality TV show. Oh, God. And this week, I've been submitting audition tapes. Okay. Oh, right here. Oh. Bro, you don't have a girlfriend anymore. I'm sorry.
Starting point is 00:18:47 So he convinced you to get into his line of work? Is that what you're talking about? Is that what we are considering it now? All right, we are running out of time here, Mick. So at the end of the day, are you okay with still seeing Adrian while she pursues her reality fame? No, don't do that, Mick. All right, look, Adrian, I really like you. Oh, yeah.
Starting point is 00:19:09 I'm sorry I haven't told you this yet, but, like, I love you. Oh, no. The timing is terrible. That was the first time you said that? Oh, buddy. Let's just like, we need to take a breather. We need to take a break and just see, like. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:19:27 That's a good idea. Let's go to break right now. And let's all breathe. Commercial break coming up right after this. Oh, man. Nick, man, I wish you the best, but I would recommend you don't watch ABC at 8 p.m. Week nights. That's Eastern time.
Starting point is 00:19:43 No, that's Central. Just don't watch it, man. I'm not going to. No. Okay, good man. Brooke and Jeffrey in the morning. We often think we know our type in dating. Tall, funny, a certain job,
Starting point is 00:19:56 but the research shows we're usually not the best predictors of who will actually make us the happiest. As we often say on the happiness lab, our minds lie to us about all kinds of stuff. And that definitely includes the kinds of things we need to be happy in a relationship. That's why it helps to stay curious. On Bumble, features like shared interests and prompts
Starting point is 00:20:16 make it easy to notice right on someone's profile initial sparks of compatibility, like a shared love of cooking or the same nostalgic TV shows. Shared interests and prompts let you showcase your personality right on your profile and connect with people who get your vibe. And with photo and ID verification, you can feel confident the person you're talking to is real, so you can date with a bit more confidence.
Starting point is 00:20:39 When you treat dating as exploration, instead of sticking to a rigid type, you open yourself up to happier, more meaningful connections. So maybe your type isn't tall, dark, and mysterious. Maybe it's loves podcast as much as you do. Stay open, stay curious, and let yourself be surprised. Download Bumble today. Here we go.
Starting point is 00:21:01 Hey, I'm Cal Penn, and on my new podcast, Here We Go again, we'll take today's trends and headlines and ask, why does history keep repeating itself? You may know me as the second hottest actor from the Harold and Kumar movies, but I'm also an author, a White House staffer, and as of like 15 seconds ago, a podcast host. Along the way, I've made some friends who are experts in science, politics, and pop culture. And each week, one of them will be joining me to answer my burning questions. Like, are we heading towards another financial crash like in 08? Is non-monogamy back in style?
Starting point is 00:21:36 And how come there's never a gate ready for your flight when it lands like two minutes or early. We've got guests like Pete Buttigieg, Stacey Abrams, Lily Singh, and Bill Nye. When you start weaponizing outer space, things can potentially go really wrong. Starting point is 00:22:12 Well, that's the thing. That's why the producers are going to pick her for reality shows, you guys. She was just the right level of, yes. You think? It's still a long shot that she gets cast onto some like Love is Blind or hookup hotel show. But I guess you're right. The more unhinged, the better for TV it is. And it's good for him because the person always goes viral.
Starting point is 00:22:34 That's like, hey, they were dating me when they went on the show. They always get attention on that. Let's say that she does get cast. and her girlfriends from that trip have a big viewing party, he's definitely watching the TV from the bushes. And like, not only doing that,
Starting point is 00:22:48 he's actually rooting for her to win. So what do you mean she doesn't get the final rose? She deserved it. If your girlfriend is on The Bachelorette, you do want her to at least do well. That's just being a good boyfriend. You know, weird way.
Starting point is 00:23:04 I don't know if that one worked out or if it didn't work out. I don't know if to call it a success or not. We got the truth. We did.
