It's the Second Date Update podcast here
with Brooke and Jeffrey in the morning,
the home of the second date.
So we're so glad you're here because it's Tuesday and now it's
just become a regular thing we're doing your awkward Tuesday phone call that's
where we call someone actually you call someone we just give you advice
yeah you're gonna get it here in a second come on hey and as we go into
this we'd love to see in the comments after three dates is it okay to give a
big surprise?
Three?
Oh, I'm first date.
I get texts back.
I'm like, you got something in the mail, girl.
Oh no.
I love that about you, Jose, I do.
All right, let us know and sit back and enjoy the show.
It's awkward.
It's Tuesday.
It's awkward Tuesday phone call.
A lot of times when we're helping out couples in this segment
Yeah, they usually come to us around with the six-month mark in their relationship
Yeah, maybe like a year or two and they've hit a speed bump, but not today
Oh, one of our listeners says he's sending up smoke signals after date number three
Already worried already
Not necessarily the best but we do need to step in and try and help him out today What? Wow. He's already worried? Already. Okay, that's not a good sign.
Yeah, not necessarily the best, but we do need to step in and try and help him out today.
So let's talk to Greg.
Greg, welcome to the show, man.
How you doing?
What's going on, everyone?
Hey.
Hey, dude.
Date three, man.
Yeah.
It's a lot.
She's sketch, bro.
Why don't you just drop it then?
Yeah, totally.
That's my question, Jose.
Like, why even bother?
I've actually been thinking about that.
Oh, okay.
So that's on the line right now, interesting.
Last ditch effort.
Okay, so no pressure on us here obviously.
What's this girl's name?
Her name's Gianna.
Gianna, okay.
That's a fun name.
Sounds pretty.
Where'd you meet her?
Online.
Okay.
Okay, and so what's the issue? I mean, three dates to already have a problem and you reach out to a radio show about it
It can't be good. I'm just in a weird situation right now. I don't know what to do. Okay, a weird situation
Okay, I love weird situations
It's gonna be dramatic
Yeah, what's happening so, you know, like I said, we met online,
we went on a few dates, but out of nowhere,
she just says, hey, I have a really big surprise for you.
Oh.
Oh, that's good.
OK, wait, before you go further, when did she say that?
Like, via text, in person?
This is via text.
Okay, and what day of the week was it?
Was it Monday?
No, I think that that matters.
Was it Wednesday?
You know, it's like, is she, is this a surprise date?
Like, do you know?
No, like during the afternoon, she's like,
hey, I have a big surprise for you I've been working on.
Oh.
I've been working on it.
She's been working on it.
Interesting.
After just three dates
She's hand making something someone does anything by hand for you. It's so nice. I have no idea what to do
Why are you scared? Why do you sound scared of a surprise? You just not like surprises?
I was actually thinking about ghosting her pretty soon
But if she gives me like a big gift like a big surprise now. I'm gonna feel bad
I won't be able to do that. I'm gonna feel bad why
Alexis would love that little parting gift for your time. It's also funny you assume big it could be so tiny
She's a makes a good point it could just be like I
Like free tickets or something. Oh, I found your real father
I assume it's like free tickets or something. Oh, I found your real father
And that's who we have on the other line
Feel like you're being guilted into staying with her
I'm just playing this out my mind and let's just say it is something big. I can't get rid of her like I'm
Now I'm gonna be obligated. Oh. Yeah. You're stuck.
But what if, okay, okay, okay.
It's not a good look.
Isn't it, like what happened to people
just being direct with each other
and saying after you find out the surprise,
I'm sorry, I can't accept this.
Yeah.
It's not where I'm at in the relationship.
We all wish we could move back to the 1960s, bro.
But that's not how the world works anymore.
No, but it's true.
You can say, hey, look, I love surprises too, and I love presents.
Why don't we save them?
And we'll both give each other surprises down the road.
This girl is so amped about giving me this gift right now.
Like, I don't know if I can dial it back even if I tried.
Oh, man.
You know what? I'm a gift giver.
I want to know what it is so bad.
I know. I'm excited too.
So I can see.
Okay. So you're not saying that you're definitely gonna end it with Gianna,
you just don't want to be guilted into staying longer than you're ready to commit to.
Exactly.
What are we doing? Are we asking her what the gift is and then we hang up if it's not good enough?
Or if it's too good.
It sounds like he's more scared if it's too good, Jose.
What advice specifically are you looking for? Listen, I just want to know what it is. Like if it's too good Jose What advice specifically are you looking for?
Listen, I just want to know what it is. Like if it's a big surprise
Okay Yeah, I just want to know because if it's a big gift and that just kind of puts my mind in the frame
That was like, okay, this is gonna at least be like another three months
Three months. Oh my god. Well imagine if it's like a car dude, then you're keeping it forever. I know.
Right?
It is kind of, he has a point.
No one should be giving anyone big gifts after three days.
Yeah.
I mean, unless you're both on the same page about it, but it doesn't sound like you are.
But would you rather it's like a car or like a song she made for you, you know?
Yeah.
We don't know if it's big, we don't know if it's just a keychain that she had like personalized to have his name on it.
So we, it could be anything at this point. That's actually kind of cute, it's just a keychain that she had like personalized to have his name on it So we did it could be anything
If it's a small gift like Jeff is suggesting would you continue to date her or are you gonna want to end things I
Hope it's just a crappy surprise that way I could just ditch her
Relationship lies in the balance right now.
We're gonna find out.
He's doing all the talking by the way, right?
I feel like it's better for her if you just ditch her.
No, cause what if he ditches her and he has like a monkey?
Like a live monkey she bought him.
Yeah, I don't think it's that cause I keep getting texts that she's working on it.
Working on it.
So it's a project.
Yeah, I think she's putting time with this song we're gonna come
back we'll give you a little bit of advice on what we think you should do
before we let you call your not even girlfriend the girl you're talking to
fling Gianna what surprise she has planned coming up when we
do your Awkward Tuesday phone call right after this.
Everybody loves the person who blows the big surprise.
Oh no!
That's us?
And today that's all of us.
No!
I didn't think of it like that
We're helping out one of our listeners, Greg
Who's been out on three dates
With a girl named Gianna
Wasn't really feeling it with her
In fact, kinda planned on ghosting, to be honest
Until she told him that
She has been planning a big surprise
Just for him
So Greg's worried if it's really cool
That he's not gonna be able really cool that he's not going to be able to ghost.
Because he's a good guy who would feel too guilty.
Yeah, you don't want to miss out on a good gift.
He doesn't want to get roped into a relationship for months and months. Nobody needs that, right Alexis?
Right. I finally agree.
Good. So, Greg is about to call her, but wants our advice first on how to get Gianna to just open up and tell him what the big surprise is, so he can just know.
Jose, please share your wisdom with Greg. What should he do here?
Oh, thank you, Jeffrey.
Oh, wisdom.
Well, you gotta tell her I know we've been on a few dates, but I should share something with you.
Uh-oh.
Surprises give me anxiety.
Oh.
Right. surprises give me anxiety. Oh. Right? And so all I would like is
just a hint, cause I don't want to ruin
the surprise, but I do like to ease
some of my anxiety. Is a hint gonna
tell him enough? A big, very detailed hint.
A big, very detailed hint.
Like the entire thing. That's what your therapist
calls you. Greg, can you say
that you actually have anxiety?
I have anxiety that I haven't broken up with
her yet. Oh my god. I mean anxiety that I haven't broken up with her yet
Into this phone call Brooke, what do you think? I hate ruining surprises. I love surprises I'm like, it's your husband surprising you with a barbershop quartet in the studio
You did not like that. I did it. So what's your advice?
I don't know. I guess like if worse comes to worse
You just lie and say that you already found out. Maybe she'll just tell you. Oh, you know about blank. Oh
That's not bad advice. What do you think Greg? Yeah, I'm better off with cleaning the ID card on this one
Yeah, okay. I can use the other one if I get desperate enough
Yeah, I had a nickel for every time a man told me that
Always the men's desperate option
All right, well great not sure if that was uplifting or not But we're gonna dial Gianna for you and let you make this call. Hopefully you'll be able to figure out what surprise
She's been planning for you It's not for you and let you make this call. Hopefully you'll be able to figure out what surprise she's been planning for you
All right, we got you man, I'm dialing her number right now here we go
Hello
Greg hey Hello. Uh, Gianna? Greg? Hey. I've been having some things up. What's that?
Nothing.
You just called from a different number.
I was just wondering where you're calling from.
How are you?
I'm well.
I'm doing well.
Listen, there's something I wanted to talk to you about.
You know that surprise that you had mentioned?
I've been giving it a lot of thought and I wanted to talk to you about. You know that surprise that you had mentioned?
I've been giving it a lot of thought,
and I'm so appreciative that you put them together.
But I got to be by your side.
Yeah, you're going to love it.
You're going to love it.
Oh.
Ooh.
Right.
So listen, I know we've only been going out
for a couple of times in a few weeks.
There's something I haven't told you
that I think I need to share.
Okay, I'm listening.
Yeah, so I suffer from severe anxiety
and surprises are like,
surprises are like one of the triggers for that.
Oh no, that's...
Yeah. Oh no, no? Yeah. No, no.
Yeah. And I. Oh, my God.
Unfortunately, I don't know if I can handle it.
I'm Greg. Oh, my God.
No. Like, I had no clue.
Yeah. Sometimes they give me medicine for it, too.
Only four surprises.
Is the anxiety or is it like just for anything?
You know, the surprises are like the big trigger.
Yeah. Oh gosh. Oh my god. This is such a trigger. Oh yeah. I mean what do you need?
Like I don't know what to do. I don't know. I've never been in this situation. I'm sorry Greg.
Yeah if you could just kind of tell me a little bit about what it is or a hint that would really, really help.
Oh, well, you know, I really can't say I really want to, but is it really going to help you or are you?
Yeah, absolutely.
It gets really bad.
My anxiety.
Are you triggering now?
Uh, I'm kind of short of breath and just, this conversation is kind of making me.
No, no, no, sit down.
Just sit down.
Are you sitting down?
Sit down.
Yeah.
Okay.
Are you ready for this?
Cause I'm going to tell you part of it.
Are you ready?
I'm ready.
All right.
So, you're gonna love it.
I booked you a dentist appointment.
Huh? What? Yeah.
Remember?
You told me you haven't been in a long time.
Shall I?
Oh.
I booked it for you.
Wow.
I know.
Okay.
I'll tell you a little bit more.
I also got you a dermatologist.
What?
Wow.
Wow.
Because I wanted to do like everything at one time, like the mouth and whole face, everything
facial.
Wow, you did all that?
Yeah, I'm actually trying to get you an appointment for TSA pre-check too.
Oh my God.
Wow. Make it stop, Joe. Check to
You a tax appointment for next year I actually thought it was an insult until we got to the TSA pre-check
Wait wait what is happening? Who are these people?
These people are an entire radio show called Brooke and Jeffrey in the morning
Are you kidding me? Yeah, what is going on?
Yeah, so these people are really smart and
Let them cook they kind of helped OK, he is not listening to our show. Hold on, let him cook. They kind of helped me with like tough decisions.
And yeah, I kind of brought them in to kind of help me out.
So were you lying about the anxiety for surprises or something?
Why? Why? Why do they need to help you out?
No, no, I wasn't lying.
I get super nervous about stuff like this.
OK, that's different than high anxiety.
So do you like the surprise?
You know what? You like it?
Actually, no one's ever done anything like that for me before.
Hey, well said.
Yeah.
Well, yeah, you seem like more the creative type, right?
And I'm definitely like more buttoned up.
So I thought I would come in, help you get a little structure,
do some things that I heard you talk about
and give you
an active service
Wow
I mean Greg that's probably not what you were expecting at all
That is actually kind of a big surprise that she cares enough about you to yeah, like set up all this important stuff in your life
I don't know. How do you how do you feel about it?
No, listen, here's the honest truth.
I'm kind of into it.
I think that's amazing.
And it's very sweet and thoughtful.
It takes a lot off of his plate now that he doesn't
have to do it himself.
So listen, I'm big on love languages.
And I heard that your love language was like acts
of service and support when we had that conversation
at our second date.
So I'm booking you appointments all over the city.
I'm doing this for you, baby, like all over the city.
Maybe people in relationships should be doing more
of these things for each other.
Aw, yeah.
No.
No.
What do you know?
No, Gianna.
I mean, that's sweet that that's your act of service.
But I feel like you're really encroaching
on like mom territory right now.
Don't listen to Brooke.
Her love language languages roadkill
I just I'd be careful. Here's the thing. It's not really like mom because I'm not paying
I just wanted to book the appointment. It's like he paid for dinner. He booked the dinner date
So I thought I booked some things that I noticed
I mean to me it sounds like Brooke has a problem with other people
doing things the way that they want to do.
Greg seems to like it. Greg is on board with this.
I'm on board. What do you mean no? He's saying he likes it.
I know but I'm just saying for her it's a slippery slope.
That's all I'm saying. You book a couple appointments one day
two years down the road you're doing all his laundry washing his dishes picking up his dirty towels
Okay, this is the brook story
I definitely want things to be romantic between us right so
Yeah, so maybe you should book a couple's massage for the two of you
Yeah, so maybe you should book a couple's massage for the two of you
I'm talking about
I'm just happy that we actually made this call and the two of you have worked it out and you're on the same page that the surprise is a good thing.
You're gonna see each other again, right?
I hope so, yeah. Most definitely.
He hopes so!
She knows when his appointments are. She can go there.
In the lobby of the dentist office.
It's Brooke and Jeffrey in the morning.
Yo K-Pop fans, are you ready?
