Starting point is 00:00:00 Hey guys, it's us The Jonas Brothers. I'm Joe. I'm Kevin. And I'm Nick. And guess what? We created our own podcast called, Hey Jonas. We invented a podcast?
Starting point is 00:00:09 Well, we didn't invent it. We just contributed to it. We're the first people to do podcasts. We get to ask other people questions because we're sick and tired of being asked questions. Well, sick and tired is a strong way to put it. But, you know, tired and sick. Listen to Hey Jonas on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. Just listen.
Starting point is 00:00:27 We don't care where you hear it. Another podcast from some. Some SNL late night comedy guy, not quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and friends. Me and hilarious guests from Jim Gaffigan to Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman, help make you funnier. This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer Streeter Seidel, help an a cappella band with their between songs banter.
Starting point is 00:00:49 There's the worst singer in the group. The worst? Yeah. Me. Is there anything to the idea that because you're from Harvard, uh, you only got in because your parents made a huge donation. The yard birds, right? That's the name.
Starting point is 00:01:05 The Harvard Yard, but they're open. Do you have a name suggestion? We're open. Since you guys are middle age, one erection. Listen to humor me with Robert Smigel and Friends on the I-Heart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. Humor me. I need some jokes to make me seem funny. Last night, a blown call changed the game.
Starting point is 00:01:30 This morning, the internet lost its mind, and nobody's telling you exactly what happened. That's where SportsSlice comes in. I'm Timbo, and every episode, we're cutting through the noise, breaking down the biggest moments in sports and giving you the real story behind the headline. And we're going straight to the source, the athletes themselves, their locker room stories, their reactions in the moment, and the stuff nobody gets to hear. Listen to Sports Slice on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcast, or wherever you get your podcast. And for more, follow Timbo's Slice Life 12.
Starting point is 00:02:00 and the TikTok podcast network on TikTok. Life is full of hurdles. So how do you keep going? On Hurtle with Emily Abadi, we're talking with the most inspiring women in sports and wellness from professional athletes, coaches, and Olympic champions
Starting point is 00:02:13 about the challenges that shape them and the mindset that keeps them moving forward. At our level, at this scale, being able to fail in front of the entire world. Like, I can do anything. I can do anything. Listen to Hurtle with Emily Abadi on the IHeart Radio app,
Starting point is 00:02:27 Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Presented by Capital One, founding partner of I Heart Women's Sports. Winning on Clay is an art. The rallies are relentless. And at the French Open, only the toughest survive. I'd know. I competed there for decades. Join me, Renee Stubbs, on the Renee Stubbs tennis podcast
Starting point is 00:02:45 for no-nonsense breakdowns of the biggest matches, the toughest players, and the moments that define Roland Garris. She can win. She's an outsider to win the French name. And she likes Clay. Listen, Lina Rubakina is arguably the best player in the world right now. And I actually can win on any surface. Listen to the Renee Stubbs tennis podcasts on the IHart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Starting point is 00:03:07 Presented by Capital One, founding partner of IHart Women's Sports. All right, it's Tuesday, which means two things. We've got awkward Tuesday phone call today. It's a brand new one. And we've got a brand new live video up of one of our second dates today. And it's Taco Tuesday. That's three things. Well, I wasn't going to put that in there because it's not really our thing.
Starting point is 00:03:25 But I adopted is our thing. Yeah. Yeah. But I do like to promote it as well. Oh, eat tacos, then go to Brooke and Jeffrey YouTube. Make sure you subscribe there. And stick around for this brand new episode right now. Do we want to get in comments right now?
Starting point is 00:03:39 I got to say Elijah Weiner said on one of our second dates, I won't listen to this one. I will wait for the video version to come out first. And Elijah? You know what? Some people may want to see it rather than just listen. You waited weeks and now one is up for you. I hope it's the one you were hoping for.
Starting point is 00:03:55 I hope so too. I have text back next week. Wait a minute. Yeah. Yeah. All right. Your brand new episode starts right now. Show of hands in the room.
Starting point is 00:04:04 Who here has been held for ransom? Not me. What? How about kidnapped? No. You're holding your hand up. Is that count? No, I think he just wants us to put up.
Starting point is 00:04:15 No. I mean, I was by choice. No. That's not kidnapping. No. When you asked for it. No, I paid. I paid for it.
Starting point is 00:04:24 Oh, God. So you didn't know what it was happening, but you knew it was going to have. I knew what was happening. But the henchmen honestly weren't quite what I was hoping to get. So I did ask for a partial refund. Too soft of him. Yes. But the reason I bring it up is because we're dealing with a less serious emergency experience.
Starting point is 00:04:39 Okay. Involving one of our listeners who says he is stuck in a foreign country. What? And the only person who can help him won't answer her phone. Oh. And even worse, it's his girlfriend. Yikes. So we're going to try to step in and help in a special international version of the awkward Tuesday.
Starting point is 00:04:57 phone call right after this. It's awkward. It's Tuesday. It's awkward Tuesday phone call. We got an emergency email this morning from the Great White North. And it wasn't... Can you explain that for people that don't know? It's not a Game of Thrones reference.
Starting point is 00:05:16 No, it's from Canada. The thing is, it wasn't from an actual Canadian. It's an American named Corey who says he's stuck. In Canada? In Canada? I really don't know a lot of the details. here. So Corey, from here on out, Brooke is going to be your official hostage negotiator. So, Brooke, go for it. I mean, I'd maybe just stay. Yeah. It is a very lovely country. Honestly, it could be better.
Starting point is 00:05:40 Corey, welcome to the show, man. Hi, thanks. Yeah, believe me, I'm considering just staying up here, but I would like some help before I do that. Okay. Okay. What's going on? What made you email the show for help? You said that you're in kind of a desperate situation. Should you be talking to the U.S. embassy. Not yet. Not yet. Oh, gosh. I have a long-distance girlfriend.
Starting point is 00:06:01 Her name is Sage. I guess I have a girlfriend who lives in Canada, but she's real. I swear. It does sound like a minute story. When you say she's real, I swear, you've touched her skin before. Yes. That's a weird way to phrase it. I don't know.
Starting point is 00:06:13 It's not a catfish. But you can't say I've seen someone because you don't know. I have seen her in the flesh. She recently just stayed with me for a month. Okay. She's totally real. Oh, cool. So she stayed with you.
Starting point is 00:06:25 It was very recently she came to visit with me. Okay. I'm sorry. Tell me her name again. Sorry, her name is Sage. Okay. You're going to have to say it seven more times throughout the course of this call, so Brooke really remembers. No, I can smell her now because her name.
Starting point is 00:06:39 Oh, there we go. Now she's got a word association. So you said recently Sage stayed with you for a month. She stayed with me for a month. It was really nice. We went out to restaurants. We saw some sporting events. It was like we were regular dating.
Starting point is 00:06:52 It was really nice. Did you do some of that skin touching? that Brooke was talking about. Wow. Important that you got to get a lot of that in because you're going to be not doing it for a minute. Actually, yeah. I had to make up for lost time.
Starting point is 00:07:05 Okay, good for you. But I missed her when she went back home. Yeah. So I decided that I wanted to surprise her and I booked a flight the next day to her hometown. Wait, the next day? Like the day she left and the next day you booked a surprise flight to see her. I did.
Starting point is 00:07:26 Oh, so I go right as she's going to go. She's not going to expect you to just, boom, be right there. Maybe she needed a break after a whole month. Yeah. Some people would call you clingy, but not us. We think it's romantic. I appreciate your support, guys. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:07:42 Okay. Well, yeah, it's a nice gesture. So you flew to Canada. I flew to Canada and I go to her apartment. Yeah. And there's no answer. She's not home. Oh, well, she's not expecting you.
Starting point is 00:07:54 Yeah, if you didn't tell her. Right. So it's fine. I hang around for a few hours and she never came back. So eventually I just went to a coffee shop and I... Wait, did you not, like, call her during this time and just randomly be like, hey, what's you doing? Yeah. Well, eventually I did, right?
Starting point is 00:08:12 So, like, after a while, I texted her and I said, hey, what are you up to? Like, I didn't say that I was in Canada. Yeah. She could be like, I'm out with a friend and you're like, oh, that's why. Or yeah, I'm on a weekend get away with my mom. Oh, yeah, exactly. Sure, sure, but she didn't even answer. Didn't text me back.
Starting point is 00:08:29 Oh, wait. Well, but it's Canada. There's a lot of spotty cell service. Yeah. All right, so she's not answering your texts. She's not, and then I tried calling. She's also not picking up the phone. So I went back to her place, and I saw a light on in the window,
Starting point is 00:08:47 and I ring the doorbell, and then the light went off. Oh. Oh, she didn't pay her electric bill. Oh, no. The ding on the doorbell was the last one of the electricity. Okay, wait. Is this an apartment where you can walk straight up to her door, or are you buzzing in at the front? Oh, like at the gate or at the concierge?
Starting point is 00:09:06 These are the important details that we're like investigated. I'll tell you why I think it's important, because I want to know if she can see that you're out there. Like, did she see you and then flip the light off? Because if I don't see who's at my door, I'm shot off my lights and pretending I'm not home too. Totally. Okay. Well, that's what I'm wondering is if she saw me, like, on a ring cam or like a camera I didn't see or something.
Starting point is 00:09:27 Like, I'm wondering if she's avoiding me. Wait. Like, I just don't know what's going on. So you're still there? I'm still here. Outside her apartment right now? Yeah, well, I'm not outside. No, I'm not.
Starting point is 00:09:38 But, like, I'm here. I'm in Canada. And it's getting to the point where I just need to, like, get a hold of her and find out what's going on. How many times have you tried to call her? Like, I've tried to call her three or four times. And that never happens. Like, it never happens that she just doesn't answer.
Starting point is 00:09:54 We always answer each other. Yeah, or a quick text. Like, I'm busy. I'll call you in a little bit. You are so calm. I mean, I know she didn't know that you were coming in. But if I was in your position, I would be mad. Dude.
Starting point is 00:10:05 And you must have so many thoughts going through your head, like mad and sad. What are you feeling? Yeah. I'm more confused right now. Yeah. And I just now want to know what is happening. Clearly something is up because she's acting, not even acting at all, not even responding to you. What is she getting to awesome on?
Starting point is 00:10:24 finally home in my own bed sleep. You know when you're on vacation for a while and you finally get back to your own bed? You go into like hibernation mode for two weeks. I'm just crossing my fingers for an automatic light timers. Yeah. Yeah. Well, whatever it is, we need to figure out a way to get you some answers or you'll be stuck in Canada for no reason. You're Canadian.
Starting point is 00:10:43 I think he can go home. I don't think so. Oh, okay. I've heard it's like a prison, but I don't know. This is like an international negotiation. Anyway, we need to think of some advice to give you. you if we can get your girlfriend to answer the phone so you can figure out what is going on with your long-distance boo when we come back and do your awkward Tuesday phone call in Canada
Starting point is 00:11:04 right after this. Hold on. It's awkward. It's Tuesday. It's awkward Tuesday phone call. We've got Corey on the phone who is making a long-distance call from Canada as we speak. So let's make sure we drag this out as long as possible. We'll wrap that cell phone bill. I think it's usually free between when you travel back and forth. Is that what your cell phone company told you? It is. Is that not the case? No, you're good.
Starting point is 00:11:35 You're good, my man. You're good. You're good. You should be fine. We'll see. This is what we know. Corey is an American. His long-distance Canadian girlfriend, Sage, stayed with him for a month recently,
Starting point is 00:11:47 and he had such a great time that the day after she went home, Corey hopped on a plane to go surprise her. in her hometown. Yeah. So he's there right now. Been to her place several times. She's not answering the door. But she is turning the light off.
Starting point is 00:12:03 On and then off as soon as the doorbell rings. So that's a little suspicious. And now she won't even pick up his calls or his texts. So something is definitely up. And we never really discussed this in the first part. But how many of us in the back of their minds thought she could be cheating? I mean, she has a Canadian boyfriend. And Corey is her hot, young American sidepiece below the border.
Starting point is 00:12:28 That's what I thought, but I project from the thousands and thousands of second dates I heard. Oh, she's definitely got something that's up. Oh, okay. Yeah. Yeah. I mean, I need a break from him after a month, like we said. I mean, if it's area codes, why not country codes? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:12:42 Different pros and country codes, yeah. You guys are making me worried. I'm getting really nervous. How are you not already jumbed to that conclusion? Well, I am. Look, I'm already nervous, but I don't know. I guess I just never considered that she might have another guy. Another life.
Starting point is 00:12:57 Well, that's good. Well, we don't want to put you like not at ease here. We want to help you. So we need to give you some advice. Brooke, what do you think he needs to keep in mind? Well, everything we just brought up, I want you to ignore. Oh, wrong. Okay.
Starting point is 00:13:09 No, because the thing is, it's like, yeah, maybe a lot of the signs are pointing that way right now, but those are all assumptions. And when we get her on the phone, you need to go from the very beginning, that feeling of excitement and joy to see her, right? This is a fun surprise. Yes. Yeah, well, I mean, that's what it's supposed to be. Yes, yes.
Starting point is 00:13:29 And if you come in all accusatory, like, who are you? Why aren't you doing this? And why aren't you pick up with my phone? You're going to come off as a crazy stalker. You know what I mean? Even if you hear Drake in the background of the phone call when she answers, you need to pretend like nothing weird is happening. He did recently drop an album.
Starting point is 00:13:44 He could be around somewhere. And I heard he likes it with the lights off. So not to say. That would be so, Drake. Oh, God. And candles everywhere. Yeah. So boring.
Starting point is 00:13:53 Anyway, I don't know if any of this advice is actually helpful to you, Corey, but it's the best that we got. Well, it's good to stay positive and remember that everything's not necessarily a disaster. That's thinking like a true Canadian. Stay there. Well done. Okay. Yeah, no matter what happened, she'll apologize for it. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:14:09 Oh, right. So what they do. We'll bank on that. I'm going to start dialing her number and we'll step away and let you make your awkward call. Good luck. You don't want to dial one. Oh, yes. Dialing International.
Starting point is 00:14:19 This is weird. Okay. Just give me a second. Here we go. Oh, baby. my God, you answered the phone. Thank God, it's me. Um, what?
Starting point is 00:14:35 Hi. Hi, it's me. Yeah. Oh, no. I mean, are you, are, are you okay? I mean, I've been calling you and texting you and you haven't been answering. So I just, hi. I, what's, what's going on?
Starting point is 00:14:54 I mean, yeah, I've seen your calls and your messages. I've just been taking some time to myself after my trip down to you and stuff. Well, I just missed you. And, well, I mean, look, I guess I got to come clean. So, babe, after you spent your month with me, I loved every minute of it. And so I wanted to surprise you, and I came to Canada.
Starting point is 00:15:27 I'm here right now. Yeah, I know. Oh. You know? Yeah, I saw you on my ring camera. Okay. Well, I mean, what's going on? I mean, is there like another guy?
Starting point is 00:15:48 Like, my friends told me just to be optimistic and positive because I thought our time was so great together. No, I mean, it was great. And there is no other guy. I really did enjoy our months together, but I think you need to go back to the States. Well, why don't I need to go back to the States? I don't understand. On the plane ride back home for me, I wrote you a letter, and I mailed it once I landed,
Starting point is 00:16:20 and it should be arriving to you hopefully soon, and I just need you to go back to the States and read the letter and then you can come back to Canada if you want, but it's really important that you read the letter first. Trying to stay optimistic, but, I mean, that sounds a lot like a breakup letter. I mean, it's just, it's important for you to just go back to the States and read the letter before anything else. Well, why? because Corey we're from two different countries literally and it's just I saw how much you loved your
Starting point is 00:17:08 hometown all the home things that you have to offer and I love Canada I'm not going to leave my home and I know you're not going to leave your home so just go back home read the letter understand within the letter okay well let me propose something because I'm kind of pulling a John Cusack under your window right now. So can you maybe like just tell me what's in the letter? And we can have that whole conversation quicker. What? You're at her apartment?
Starting point is 00:17:36 Yeah, the John Cusack reference wasn't very strong. Yeah, you got to explain that a little bit. Well, yeah, I mean, I walked back over. I'm just here. Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, Corey, what's going on? Oh, sweetie. I think she's hearing us, Corey. Oh, yeah, she can hear us now.
Starting point is 00:17:51 I'm so sorry. I didn't know what to do. And you weren't answering. So it's like a radio show and people, they call people and then people answer. And we're called, we're called Brooke and Jeffrey in the morning. Good morning. Hi. Hi.
Starting point is 00:18:08 Hey. Sorry, this is awkward. I just didn't know what to do, babe. And like, I really care about you. And, I mean, I know we'd like talked about, like, moving to the U.S. And I mean, what's wrong with the U.S.? Like, I thought we had a great time. Like, we went to a sporting event.
Starting point is 00:18:24 went to the cheesecake. I took you to Applebee's, babe. Oh, come on. I want to start chanting USA right now. You showed all our secrets. Yeah. Oh, yeah. I dare you to find one bad thing
Starting point is 00:18:36 about the United States of America. Yeah, and you show her cracker barrel? I'll never go back. It's the endless shrimp at Red Lobster. You got to get her. That's where his mistake was. Okay. Sorry, I know we're joking around a lot of AIDS.
Starting point is 00:18:49 Especially because Canada has most of those chains. Yeah, also. But Corey obviously feels very strongly about you. He's there right now. I mean, like I said, to him, he's a great guy. We had a great time, but everything I need to say is in the
Starting point is 00:19:04 letter. I'm not going to air everything out with the radio station. This is just bonkers. Like, is this what you Americans do? Like, I just, I, like, can't understand. Yeah, we do like kind of weird stuff. Yeah, we don't like privacy. And also, letters are not really
Starting point is 00:19:20 our thing, so. No, but that's nice. I mean, at least she's, like, thinking about it now instead of a year into this or two years into this where suddenly you realize she won't move. Look, babe, you're so important to me. What if we split the difference? Let's hang out in Mexico. Hey.
Starting point is 00:19:36 Ooh, I like it. Yes. I mean, Sage, you'll have a lot better tan there. Yeah. I've always thought right in the middle of United States and Canada was Mexico. Just a little detour. Bridging the gap. Remember.
Starting point is 00:19:48 Geography, not American strong suits. You know, guys, I really appreciate you trying for. and I to get back together or whatever, but honestly, like, I've already said too much that I've wanted to say already. It's in the letter. That's all I'm going to say. He needs to go back to the States and just leave me in Canada. This letter, yeah, I want to read it.
Starting point is 00:20:11 I think it's just going to be sad. Yeah, maybe I don't know. I don't like you want to open that letter. Yeah, I'm not really looking forward to reading this letter. I got to be honest. Maybe just, maybe before the letter, go get some ice cream. Put on some Drake. Yes.
Starting point is 00:20:24 I would normally go to a cheesecake factory, but that's kind of ruined now. Oh, no. Oh, man. Oh, wow. Wow. Wow. Wow. Dang, bro.
Starting point is 00:20:34 Okay. Well, Sage, I mean, we appreciate you answering and opening up to us and being honest. Yeah, you got to respect that. Yeah. It's classic Canadian, man. Yeah. Just super friendly. Yeah, direct to the point.
Starting point is 00:20:46 Dang, I want to be Canadian. I know. I kind of want to date Sage now. Hey. Wait a man. I'm kidding. I'm kidding. I'm kidding.
Starting point is 00:20:52 I'm kidding. Yeah. Brooke and Jeffrey in the morning. IHeart Radio is throwing it back. 20s, the decade. To the days of huge hits. And unforgettable items. A non-stop stream of the biggest and best.
Starting point is 00:21:08 Drake, Rihanna, Beyonce, Katie Gaga, the weekend. And more. All your decade-defining favorites all in one place. Hi, it's Katie Perry. Hey, it's Brunel Marz. This is Keshe. Find 2010's The Decade on the free IHeart Radio app. Preset the station.
Starting point is 00:21:24 so it's always one tab away. Hey, it's us, the Jonas Brothers, and guess what? We have some big news. What's the news, name? Huge news. We created our own podcast called, Hey Jonas. We invented a podcast? Well, we didn't invent it.
Starting point is 00:21:38 We just contributed to it. We're the first people to do podcasts. Pretty, yeah, pretty wide range of podcasts throughout there. But this one's extra special. So how do we actually come up with a name, Hey Jonas, guys? I honestly don't remember. I think it was on a call about what we should call it. And we were thinking I'm originally calling it one of the early names of our band before Jonas Brothers.
Starting point is 00:22:03 This is how you guys remember it going down? Yes. I have a very different memory of this. We were talking about a thing, a bit for the podcast, people could call in and say, hey, Jonas. And then I wrote down on my little notepad, Hey Jonas, and offered it up as a potential title for the podcast. But thanks for remembering that, guys. Listen to Hey Jonas on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. Just listen. We don't care where you hear it.
Starting point is 00:22:27 Is it just me or did you get the vibe that the intimacy wasn't great between them? Oh, wow. Now you're saying it when they're off the phone. It is weird that she stayed with him for a month and then immediately after she's like, I got to dump this guy. Or it could be the other way around. It could have been so good that she's like, this is amazing, but I can't move for this. Yeah, no, but Brooke be honest. He sounded like a me first type of guy.
Starting point is 00:22:51 Where it's like, I'll get to you after I got mine. No, Jim. We were talking about this. This was not part of the conversation. Are you kidding? You told me that outside the studio. You said he sounds selfish in bed. No, I did not.
Starting point is 00:23:07 I saw your word. Oh, my God. I hate when you do this. You set me up. You tell me things off the air and then act like you didn't. I did not. You said I bet she's never even went once. I never even thought it.
Starting point is 00:23:19 I never even thought it. Oh, really? We just need to read the letter. Okay. I'm sure it's all of it. Yeah, maybe there's a diagram in the letter of which he could have done better. I hope so. I do feel bad about how that played out, though.
Starting point is 00:23:32 That was tragic to hear, but it does sound like it's probably the best for both of them moving forward. Hit a guy when he's down, Jeff. I'm just saying what you said. But anyway, if you ever need help in your personal life, awkward or not, reach out to the show. We can help you. You can find all of our content. We're up online. Wherever you get your podcast, it's Brooke and Jeffrey in the morning.
Starting point is 00:23:52 Hey, guys, it's us and the Jonas Brothers. I'm Joe. I'm Kevin. And I'm Nick. Guess what? We created our own podcast called Hey Jonas. We invented a podcast? Well, we didn't invent it.
Starting point is 00:24:02 We just contributed to it. We're the first people to do podcasts. We get to ask other people questions because we're sick and tired of being asked questions. Well, sick and tired is a strong way to put it, but, you know. Tired and sick. Tired and sick. Listen to Hey Jonas on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. Just listen.
Starting point is 00:24:19 We don't care where you hear it. Another podcast from some SNL late night comedy guy, not quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and friends, me and hilarious guests from Jim Gaffigan to Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman, help make you funnier. This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer Streeter Seidel, help an acapella band with their between songs banter. The worst singer in the group? The worst? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:24:44 Me. Is there anything to the idea that because you're from Harvard, you only got in because your parents made a huge donation. The yard birds, right? That's the name. The Harvard Yardt Yard. They're open. Do you have a name suggestion? We're open.
Starting point is 00:25:00 Since you guys are middle aged, one erection. Listen to humor me with Robert Smigel and Friends on the I-Heart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. Humor me. I need some jokes to make me seem funny. Last night, a blown call changed. a game. This morning, the internet lost its mind, and nobody's telling you exactly what happened. That's
Starting point is 00:25:27 where SportsSlice comes in. I'm Timbo and every episode, we're cutting through the noise, breaking down the biggest moments in sports and giving you the real story behind the headline.
