Starting point is 00:00:33 Well, it really depends on who you talk to. There are many versions of what happened in 1969 when a young Ted Kennedy drove a car into a pond. And left a woman behind to drown. Chappaquiddick is a story of a tragic death And left a woman behind to drown. Chappaquiddick is a story of a tragic death and how the Kennedy machine took control. Every week we go behind the headlines

Just like great shoes, great books take you places. Through unforgettable love stories and into conversations with characters you'll never forget. Starting point is 00:01:49 My Uncle Chris was a real character, a garbage truck driver from South Carolina who is now buried in Panama City alongside the founding families of Panama. He also happens to be responsible for the craziest night of my life. Wild stories about adventure, romance, crime, history, and war intertwine as I share the tall tales
Starting point is 00:02:08 and hard truths that have helped me understand Uncle Chris. Listen now to Uncle Chris on Will Ferrell's Big Money Players Network on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you listen to podcasts. I knew I wanted to obey and submit, but I didn't fully grasp for the rest of my life what that meant. For My Heart Podcasts and Rococo Punch, this is The Turning, River Road.
Starting point is 00:02:34 In the woods of Minnesota, a cult leader married himself to 10 girls and forced them into a secret life of abuse. But in 2014, the youngest escaped. Listen to The Turning River Road on the iHeart radio app, Apple podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Hey, a little something special for you today. It's Brooke and Jeffrey in the morning. And this is a second day podcast, but every Thursday you're getting something just a little bit different from our show. And I think we've had one of these, right? Yep. We have before. We've heard one.
Starting point is 00:03:03 Blind Love Is, which is totally not a ripoff of a famous television reality show. Very original, our own idea, yep. Yeah, well, I mean, what happens is sometimes listeners call in for help with their love life on our show and it just doesn't work out, right? Like we can't get the other person on the phone or that's usually actually the only reason.
Starting point is 00:03:21 That's what it is, they don't answer. Yeah. So we get them to do this instead and go on basically a first date a matchmaking date live on the radio So which not awkward at all no no no Always works that great. Yeah, so here it goes it starts right now For last few months we've been trying a radio knockoff version of the Netflix show love is blind Well today, it's happening again been trying a radio knockoff version of the Netflix show, Love is Blind. Yeah. Well, today it's happening again.
Starting point is 00:03:47 Yes. I love it. But this time there's a twist. And I promise you the contestants never saw it coming. Even with Brooke's Sherlock Holmes magnifying glasses strapped onto her face, even she couldn't see this coming. I just get 20-20 vision with them. They don't magnify anything for me.
Starting point is 00:04:07 You're gonna be just as shocked when you hear it in a brand new Blind Love Is. It's happening next. Netflix has the show Love is Blind, but we have our own edition called Blind Love Is. I did like one per- For legal reasons. One of our listeners did text in the suggestion love has glaucoma.
Starting point is 00:04:29 Oh, wow. Love can't see very well. Yeah. We'll consider it, but for now it's blind love is. Okay. We've tried it a few times before with the same premise as love is blind. Two people who've never met before can't see each other.
Starting point is 00:04:42 They just talk to see if a romantic connection sparks out of nowhere and i want to go around the room real quick thumbs up thumbs down thumbs medium for this segment alexis where are your thumbs oh i like this segment okay there's three options and you didn't say any of them brooke where are your thumbs i I got one up, one down. You know, I feel like we've had some good couples on this. That's what the thumbs medium was for.
Starting point is 00:05:10 Those cancel each other out, Brooke. Okay, thumbs sideways? I regret this whole rating system. Sorry about the ladies. Keep it easy for me, Jose. Where are your thumbs? Thumbs up, buddy. Thank you.
Starting point is 00:05:21 Wow, see how easy that was? You're so difficult, ladies. Okay, listen, I didn't want to do thumbs up And play by the rules well people We have two brand new people on the phone right now their names are Christina and Gabriel They both called in for second dates that we couldn't do for one reason or another But they were up for trying this with us since they're both single and other than last time where we hear a lot of small talk for five straight minutes we've asked them to do a little bit of homework wait on each other no no just to be creative with the questions that they
Starting point is 00:05:57 want to ask to each other prepare they've come prepared and I can't wait to see how it goes let's just step back right now and put them on. Oh, remember. We're not gonna say hi or anything. No, we need quiet in the room. We can talk about it after. But right now it's their moment, their show, their thumbs. Here we go. Christina, you can say hi to Gabriel
Starting point is 00:06:16 and then we're gonna step back. Hi, Gabe. Hey, hello, how are you? I'm good, how are you? I'm good how are you? You know pretty good I'm just happy to get a chance to speak. To speak? Yeah to get a chance to you know maybe get to know you more or at all. are you ready for some questions? Uh, yeah. I am.
Starting point is 00:06:50 Okay, so, first question. If you were an animal, what animal would you kiss like? Oh. What? Oh. What animal would I kiss like? Oh. My last Um, what animal would I kiss like?
Starting point is 00:07:05 Oh. Um, my last girlfriend said that I had kind of like a longer tongue, so, um, like maybe a, like a giraffe, maybe? Oh. Okay, then. I mean, not like, you know, not like I'm like grabbing fruit from a tree, but like I would be supportive in the act of kissing. Oh, I did not expect that.
Starting point is 00:07:35 Can I ask you, um, what animal you would kiss like? Um, okay. Let me think. Cause I know I asked you, but I didn't actually think of what I would say. Um, okay, let me think because I know I asked you but I didn't actually think of what I would say Probably a chicken and I know that sounds bad but Chicken they just pack and they don't have lips. So yeah You have lips though, right? I mean I have lips. They're just really thin like Kylie Jenner pre fillers. Is that a good one?
Starting point is 00:08:15 I mean I think pretty much as long as you have, you know, if there's a target, you know, there I think we're good. I mean my giraffe situation, you know, I feel like I'd be able to land a kiss on a chicken Make fun Can I ask you my question Yeah Okay, so My question is a little bit more specific, but it was what's your favorite episode of?
Starting point is 00:08:44 Fraggle Rock? Um, I don't know what that is. Is that on Netflix? Oh, uh, you don't know what Fraggle Rock? Okay. No, it's, uh, you know, the Muppets, right? The Fraggle and Uber. No, I know the Muppets yeah yeah like the cartoon actually this is
Starting point is 00:09:09 like parallel to that but it was I was gonna show you some of the episodes because they were pretty pretty pretty unique all right, when was the last time that you cried? Oh. Oh. Um, that kind of made me think. Um, when was the last time I cried? Um, probably when they said that Paraglorock was ending. Wow, you must have really liked that show. What about you? Is there something that made you weepy? So actually, the last time was during COVID.
Starting point is 00:10:01 So I ran out of paper. It was a frustrating time. It's just not good. Probably a bad time to be crying, right? Because you don't even have the toilet paper. I mean, like, here's here's you could wipe on like your shirt,
Starting point is 00:10:20 but not other things. Yeah, that's yeah. I think I would dry my tears easy at TV but can't try other areas. This is the perfect time for us to step in. Can't try other areas. On that note, can we put them both on hold for a second? Yeah. Jeff, my thumbs are lowering.
Starting point is 00:10:37 Oh my God. I love the prepared questions. I mean, let's be honest. We asked them to be creative and they went for it. Let's give them some credit for that. I love that the two questions she came up with are what animal do you kiss like and when was the last time you cried? Like those are very Opposite. Yeah, she's cutting right to the core of who he is as a person. Like where are his emotions at? How is he romantically? They're creative. I think they're kind of cute. Now I just can't get the picture of a giraffe making out with a chicken.
Starting point is 00:11:06 A long tongue and kissing someone with no lips. And I appreciate that she was confident about her thin lips still. Oh yeah, no, she said I'm a becker. She owns it, so. This is a tough one, because I'd say the few couples that we've had on before this may have had a little more chemistry.
Starting point is 00:11:23 Yeah, that's what I was trying to say. But the questions are so good. I feel like he started off really nervous, couples that we've had on before this may have had a little more chemistry. Okay. That's what I was trying to say. But the questions are so good. I feel like he started off really nervous and he's starting to warm up by the end. Yeah. I'm not 100% sure I'm on the fence about it. Text in 78592 if you think Christina and Gabriel should continue their conversation or do you think we should move on to another potential couple that we have lined up on the lines
Starting point is 00:11:44 too. Oh, God. We just dump them dump them both we could do it dirty like that text in seven eight five nine to you the word Keep if you want to hear more or next if you think we should move on We'll find out when we come back for more blind love is right after this We're in the middle of another heart-pounding edition of blind love is We're in the middle of another heart-pounding edition of Blind Love Is. We just asked the listeners if they want to hear more from Christina and Gabriel, and on the textboard at 7592, almost 70% said, nope, next. I liked them!
Starting point is 00:12:17 We were just getting awkward enough to be entertaining. Just kidding, the entire thing was aww. I wasn't too into it. Apparently the listeners have heard enough about giraffe chicken makeouts you got to go with the vibe on these so we've officially ditched Christina and Gabriel and we have a brand new couple ready to meet for the very first time on our show it's happening so fast Jeffrey people want to be blinded by love But before we get to them, here's the new twist
Starting point is 00:12:47 Okay, instead of the usual four minutes to chat with each other to get to know one another They're only gonna have three Cuz at the very end we're adding a new feature called Serenade escapade. Oh, are they gonna sing to each other? Please tell me they're singing to each other that means after the get to know you part our listeners will romantically sing to each other? Please tell me they're singing to each other. That means after the get to know you part, our two listeners will romantically sing to one another. Jeffrey, I love you for this. I know that you came up with this part. I'm not serenading you, Brooke, okay? I want to make that very clear. Okay, you do that every Friday already.
Starting point is 00:13:18 Whatever song the two listeners want to sing to try and build an even stronger connection. Dude, I honestly, honestly love bad karaoke. So this is... And good karaoke, it's a win-win. It shows that you're fun. You're willing to put yourself out there, be vulnerable. It doesn't matter if you're not a great singer. This isn't the voice.
Starting point is 00:13:36 We're not looking for amazing vocalists, just people willing to risk it for love. Already Alexis wants to crawl under the table. Yeah. I actually hope one of them is worse than me. That'd make me feel good. I don't think that's possible. it for love already Alexis wants to crawl under the table yeah you could do the backup vocals for one of them while they sing but we have two new people their names are April and Polly and once again gonna open the phone lines for them we're gonna back away not say anything let them meet and find out if blind truly love is
Starting point is 00:14:10 Not for you it's for them yeah, so Polly and April you two can say hi to each other And then we're gonna step away all right go ahead Hi Polly Hello, yeah Yes, I'm holding All right, hey um Polly you there. Oh, I'm holding. Hey, Polly, you there? Oh, hey, hey, how are you? Hi. Hey, how's it going?
Starting point is 00:14:33 Sorry, just one second. Okay. Okay, hey, I was just trying to, I'm sorry. Hey, I was buying some shoes on Amazon. My car got declined for some reason. So I'm on the fucking chat. Just trying to work it out. Focus on the segment.
Starting point is 00:14:52 Oh, okay. So I'm on the line right now. I've been waiting a little bit. How are you, though? How's things? What's up? Oh, jeez. I'm good. I mean, that sucks. Your car got declined. I think we're supposed to chat, though, and like kind of get to know each other. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:15:15 Yes, yeah. It's just hard to get them on. Otherwise, they never do this. But I guess let's talk about it. Let's talk. OK. Well, this is like kind of distracting a little bit, but okay. So, Polly, what do you love to do for fun? You know, I like sports and I like, oh, come on, are you kidding me?
Starting point is 00:15:51 I'm sorry, what did you say? I was asking like what you like to do for fun. This customer service person just keeps asking, oh wait, they keep asking if I have another card I could use, I don't know what, I'm so sorry, they keep trying to interrupt me while I'm talking to you Okay It's just bad timing Okay. Well my my question is if so if you could travel anywhere in the blink of an eye, where would you go?
Starting point is 00:16:21 Where is Amazon's headquarters? Cause maybe if I go there, I could straighten the Southpac to the fall down. You need to be transporting to Seattle? Wow. Well, I mean, for me, it'd probably be Bora Bora. I just, I've always wanted to go there and I've never seen such blue water.
Starting point is 00:16:43 That sounds awesome. It just feels like it's in the middle of nowhere. Other cars declined too. It's just so weird. Oh no. I'll get it. Holly, okay, so like, I feel like you're not really into this conversation.
Starting point is 00:17:01 Oh, and look at that. Right in the middle of this romantic conversation. Oh, and look at that. Right in the middle of this romantic conversation, it is time for our serenade escapade. That was only three minutes, but it felt like 50. Oh my god, it was so bad. Hold on, it might get better with the singing. Pauly, what the hell? Are we still doing the singing? Don't bring the mood down, Brooke.
Starting point is 00:17:21 We're at a very romantic point in the conversation. He better perform april why don't you start us off with a romantic song for pauli oh my goodness i want to make sure he finishes what he has to do so again oh my gosh i had like so i had my song picked out but i mean this is kind of like i picked it out before this conversation happened where it turned for kind of the worst. Just go with what's in your heart. Go ahead. I'll hold.
Starting point is 00:17:51 He said I'll hold. He said I'll hold. Is he talking to us or Amazon? Just let her sing, Pauly. Okay. Baby, calm down, calm down. Girl, it's your body eat from a hot for lockdown for lockdown Oh lockdown girl you sweet like fun time. Oh fun time if I tell you say I love you know, you know Tommy
Starting point is 00:18:16 No, no, no Oh We're running out of time here we need you to serenade April for us. Hello? Why did you answer the phone? Hey, bro. This is not the time to multitask. Just need 15 seconds of you singing your best love song for April. Go ahead. Okay, okay. I'm feeling the connection already, but let's really drive it home.
Starting point is 00:19:02 Right. What I want you got in the might be hard to handle. Like a flame that burns the candle. Like a candle that feeds the flame. Oh yeah. Boo! Yeah! April your knee is as weak as I think they are.
Starting point is 00:19:22 Operator. There's only one shot you can do. There's only shots you can do. Mute yourself. I mean, there, I have the giggle for sure. She's laughing. Oh, she's got butterflies right now. This is strong game, he's still got her smiling. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:19:37 She's not laughing because she's interested. There's no way, April. I didn't get anything about you except that you like sports and I guess your cards are declining Is there anything else you would like to say to April before our time is up here Yeah, so they actually decline my other card and Play safe the problem in their system because I know it's not mine
Starting point is 00:20:03 Anyway, you don't you don't have PayPal do you because I know it's not mine anyway you don't you don't have PayPal do you because I could maybe use your PayPal and pay you back yeah definitely no you can't have my PayPal I can't wait to get together that's really nice I can't wait to get together. That's really nice. Thank you I'm really glad that we went with this second couple. I really think this proves once and for all really blind love is Let the listeners decide text in to 7 8 5 9 2 on a scale of 1 to 10 how hot was that conversation? It's broken Jeffrey in the's Brooke and Jeffrey in the morning. Brooke and Jeffrey in the morning.
Starting point is 00:20:48 Well, that was a wild ending. Yeah. When you're looking for a person who's really gonna pay attention to you, there are no red flags there, right? Yeah, yeah, yeah. When we got to the singing, I thought we might have peaked, but then it just... I know. I know. It just nosedived real bad. She was darling. I hope she finds somebody. Yes, seriously. Nose-dived real bad. She was darling. I hope she finds somebody And so willing to do this and apparently we got some comments already on this brother funny One person said Polly's the biggest fail on the show in a long long time That's a hat yeah a hat to wear around oh in this compliment to a night train said this segment has never been this bad
Starting point is 00:21:27 You never know when we're gonna to reach a new low. Thanks to Paulie. We're going to blame him. And I think we did it today. So hey, let us know what you think, who you're rooting for. Yeah. And maybe someone you hate that you want to sign up for Blind Love Is, you know?
Starting point is 00:21:38 So a little punishment. You can always follow our socials. It's at Brooke and Jeffrey. And our website, BrookeandJeffrey.com. Thanks so much.
