Listen to You're the problem with Yamanika on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. We went on on yesterday's podcast. Yeah, there's been a lot of a female body parts this week. It's some things. Okay, so we're going to get to your brand new closure call here in just a second.
Starting point is 00:03:04 but let's review what we learned after our sushi fun yesterday. I don't know why I was surprised. More people were on Sophia's side than I thought. Yeah, we got a lot of people saying she just needs someone more fun. Okay. Okay, Sophia, you're definitely my type. That was awesome. Sophia needs someone more daring and on her level.
Starting point is 00:03:24 I like how she doesn't care what anyone thinks. Wild and spicy. She thought she got an Uber ride home and it was the cops, right? People love that too. Oh, yeah, lots of laughs on that. Okay. I don't know. Team Sophia, I guess. Do you, Sophia? Prove us wrong. All right. Well, let's figure out what's going on today. The brand new episode starts right now. Brooke, if we ever did this for you and went back to find your first ever online date?
Starting point is 00:03:50 I've never been on an online date. Oh, that's right. Computers weren't invented yet when you were dating. You relied on sundials at the time. My bad. I'm sorry. You know what? I do think we should give her credit because she's putting herself out there. taken a huge risk, trying something to find if true luck can still exist. You know what? I think we've put all the blame on our producer who set up those questions very wrongly. Okay. Yeah, he doesn't do that knowing that it might get a weird response.
Starting point is 00:04:19 I mean, we could have apologized. We could have ended with though you want to hang out with me. That's not good radio. I know. I blame him. And it was 20 years ago. She didn't remember the landlord threatened to call the cops. things were hazy.
Starting point is 00:04:35 I am glad that she got closure, though, even if Thomas is still judging her for her 22-year-old mistakes. I don't think he's judging her. He just doesn't want to be any part of it. Exactly. That just shows that he never matured. So screw that guy. Either that or when someone shows you who they are,
Starting point is 00:04:51 believe them. 20 years ago? I bet you he still has the old Britney Spears schoolgirl poster up in his room because he hasn't moved on. That would be concerning. Yeah, that's right. I think Jeff's projecting that. I think Thomas loses. Anyway.
Starting point is 00:05:06 It's Brooke and Jeffrey in the morning. We can always help you with your person in life and not sabotage you, we promise. Yeah, hit us up next time, baby. One more time. What's that famous phrase ancient scholars used to say? First, the worst, second the best. Third's the one with the hairy chest. Yes.
Starting point is 00:05:26 I think that was Aristotle, wasn't it? Yeah, I think it was in the Dead Sea Scrolls, too. Oh, no. sometimes first isn't the worst. In fact, sometimes first is the best thing you almost ever had. I think it usually is. It's the jealous people that say first is the worst. Well, first being almost the best is definitely the case for our listener, Liz,
Starting point is 00:05:47 who apparently has spent years thinking about one of her firsts to the point that she asked us for a closure call today. Oh, I love a good closure call. If you don't know, that's the segment where we help listeners track down someone from their past, so they can ask those long-lingering questions that have been hanging around in their minds to finally, hopefully get some closure. So Liz is our caller today. Liz, welcome to the show. Hi, thank you.
Starting point is 00:06:14 I'm so curious what first we're talking about. There's a lot of first in life. Yeah. Which first is occupying your mind? Well, I've always wondered about what happened to my very first website date. Website date? His name is Thomas, and I can't forget them. First guy that you met online.
Starting point is 00:06:33 So it was like match.com or something. Wasn't that always everybody's first? Honestly, yeah, it was one of those. I don't remember which one. It was so long ago, but he was so cute. Oh, I screwed it up, though. What happened? Yeah, why didn't it work out?
Starting point is 00:06:48 Well, what really happened is we went on a great date. It was a dinner, restaurant kind of thing, and we were going out and had a great time. But then my ex, who I had just sort of kind of, kind of recently broken up with, kept calling me in the middle of dinner. And I, you know, listen, hindsight probably should have just turned that stupid phone off. But I, it kept ringing and I would, like, answer it, and I would hang up on them. Oh, you were answering the phone in front of your new guy, Thomas? Well, I kept, like, hitting the ringer to turn it off.
Starting point is 00:07:21 But then he kept calling back. I was like, maybe it's an emergency. Oh, God. It never is with an ex. Yeah. Can I ask how long ago is this? 20 years ago Wow
Starting point is 00:07:32 Well this person Do you know if they're even single? Oh my God You went on one date? Yeah that's what I mean I know but listen I'm like recently divorced So you just
Starting point is 00:07:41 You sort of reflect on your life Oh my God I was like Does it really hurt to try and reach out to this guy Because I just God he was so perfect Can I ask how Why did this man make such an impact on you?
Starting point is 00:07:52 You went on one date And you were totally distracted By your ex the entire time I know your ex sounds like the one that really liked you. Yeah. I know. No, listen, this guy, he was like a saint.
Starting point is 00:08:04 So, like, at the end of this, because, you know, my ex kept calling me and I was just like so upset, I had to go home. And he's like, no, no, you can't drive home in the state. Let me drive you home. Oh, my God. You were visibly upset about your ex at dinner so much so that you weren't able to drive. And this man. Took care of you?
Starting point is 00:08:21 No, listen, it gets better. So, like, I got to my apartment. And lo and behold, my stupid ex was there. Oh, God. He's the. worse. This guy's toxic. Well, hold on. Let's get the guy a chance. Maybe he had something really sweet to say.
Starting point is 00:08:34 Maybe there was flowers. I don't know. I'm sure he did. Toxic people are great at love bombing. And some people love those people. No. It's not a good idea. Well, what happens? So he's waiting. Your ex-boyfriend is waiting for you in the parking lot when you arrived there with you and Thomas.
Starting point is 00:08:51 Like, how does that interaction go? I mean, they weren't like fighting or anything, but Thomas did try to go out and like talk to him a little bit. But I sort of kind of freaked out. I mean, it was only 22 at the time. So I, like, I basically just sort of kind of ran inside. And I had to get away from it all.
Starting point is 00:09:06 And then, like, 20 minutes later or something, like, I came down and they were both gone. And I have no idea what happened. If you had to, like, guess, what do you think happened between the two of them in that time you weren't there? In my head, I was like, he totally told some lie about whatever. And because he still, my ex still wanted to get back together with me. And he, like, wouldn't give up. But I asked him what. happened and he didn't answer
Starting point is 00:09:29 he's like oh I don't know I was too drunk I don't remember I was like what the hell your ex was too drunk yeah oh god he showed up drunk please tell me you didn't end up dating that guy again oh no no well by the time I went back on the dating app I mean he had already blocked me
Starting point is 00:09:45 no she's asking about your ex you didn't end up dating your ex again no no wait a minute though did you just say Thomas blocked you yeah oh no what do you think happened that night that turned him off?
Starting point is 00:09:59 I don't know. I guess that makes sense. She's crying so badly about her ex at dinner, answering the phone. They go back. He's still there. Yeah. It's blockable. There may have been like one or two red flags that came up.
Starting point is 00:10:11 That's blockable. You're right. You can blame all that on her crazy ex that showed up drunk. Yeah, but why 20 years later do you want closure on this? Like, what is the closure you need? I just felt such a connection with him and I really, I'm sort of just hoping that maybe he's single. Because it was just in my eyes, there was nothing wrong with him. He was like a great catch.
Starting point is 00:10:32 And it just was the circumstances. One that got away. I feel so nervous about doing this. And I really just hope you guys can help me. Yeah. Wow. Well, we can. That is such a wild request.
Starting point is 00:10:44 Liz, you've been working with our producer on the four questions that you wanted to send his way. Yeah. Okay. And all that you're waiting for now is to hear what answers he wrote back. and that's what we're going to find out. But wait, this is your first time on our show, right? Yeah. You already said first is the worst.
Starting point is 00:11:04 Yeah. This is not going to go well, Jeff. But for her, first is always the best. Yeah. Okay. I'm pretending like I get it. Yes. All right.
Starting point is 00:11:15 We're going to ride this positive energy. And when we come back, we will read the responses from Thomas. Oh, my gosh. The guy you met online almost 20 years ago to hear what he has to say. in your closure call coming up right after this. If you're just joining us, we're in the middle of a closure call seeking answers for our listener, Liz,
Starting point is 00:11:36 who has spent years wondering whatever happened to the very first guy she ever met on the dating sites. Oh, man. Well, we definitely know why he stopped talking to her. Yeah. Even Brooke was shocked by the story because it takes a lot to rattle this grizzled old radio vet.
Starting point is 00:11:55 Dude, I get it, though. I've had exes like she had. That are just traumatic and toxic. Relentless. But you were right that this is a bold move for her to want to reach back out to somebody she met one time about 20 years ago. Yeah, that's so crazy to me. But this guy's name was Thomas. Their first date was going pretty well until her ex-boyfriend started blowing up her phone in the middle of dinner.
Starting point is 00:12:18 And not only that, he was waiting for her in the parking lot of her apartment. While drunk. Yes. Yeah. Not in a sober state. So Thomas went to go talk to him While Liz went inside to escape the drama But when she came out
Starting point is 00:12:31 Thomas and her ex were both gone Yeah and she even went to search for Thomas On the dating apps and she was blocked Blocked on the apps blocked on the phone It's her biggest regret by far And she's always wondered what if Which is why she's come to us And we've helped track down Thomas
Starting point is 00:12:50 And sent him four questions It's so crazy Did you ever get a chance to apologize to him after that had happened? No, I never heard from him again. It was that night and that was it. This is the first time? Oh, my God.
Starting point is 00:13:03 This is crazy. I can't wait to hear what he says. Yeah. Let's find out because we said... My heart is, like, beating right now. He's responded to all four of your questions, Liz. Are you ready to hear these? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:13:17 Here we go. Well, let's get started. Your first question you sent said, Hi, Thomas. This is Liz from two decades ago. I know it's been a long time, and you probably don't remember me, but you were my first online date ever. Can you believe it? Oh.
Starting point is 00:13:36 Anyway. This sounds like a diary entry from... I like it. Oh, my God. I am like so blushing. You're genuine. It's a cute thing. It's good to remind him of who you are.
Starting point is 00:13:49 We're writing an old school letter here, so this makes sense. But she goes on, anyway, I recently got divorced. And I know this is a long shot, but are you single? Oh, that's our first question. We're just jumping right in. Circle yes or no? Yeah. I'm guessing there's no way you were so cute and nice back then.
Starting point is 00:14:09 If so, who's the lucky lady? Oh. Oh, I like that approach because you're complimentary to him. He was so nice. Like, it's only deserving that, you know, you would be with respect. I mean, he was a great guy that night. You know, though, this opening question is kind of also reflecting what your ex did, like not letting things go.
Starting point is 00:14:29 It's all right. Well, Brooke, she's not drunk like her ex was. She's only buzzed. Ah, okay. Let's give her some credit here. We're just teasing you. We're teasing you. She's like, no.
Starting point is 00:14:38 Here's the thing. Thomas did right back and responded. He said, Hi, Liz. Wow. Blast from the past. Oh. Okay.
Starting point is 00:14:47 I actually do remember you very well. Huh. Oh. That's a good. Well, is it. No, it's not. It could be a, He remembers her because it was an infamous night of her crying over her ex and the guy's showing up.
Starting point is 00:15:00 Let's find out. He says, Kind of hard to forget a night like that. Yeah, see? I'm sorry to hear about your divorce. Hope things get better. And yes, I am also single.
Starting point is 00:15:11 Oh. Divorce really does suck. He's been through it? Okay. Also, thanks for the flattery. However, I'm not interested in us rekindling anything. Whoa. Oh, no.
Starting point is 00:15:22 That was like a roller coaster. Just shut you down. He remembered. Yikes. That was a roller coaster. How shocked are you that he's not interested, Liz? I'm, well, listen. I mean, it's a long shot, but it was something I just, I want a closure to.
Starting point is 00:15:38 You don't know unless you try. You can't win the lottery unless you try it. That's true. But I wonder what his reasoning would be. And that's just the first question. Maybe he'll change his mind by question three. Number two, will you be my new wife? I don't know.
Starting point is 00:15:53 because for those who don't know or who have never heard this segment before, we send all four questions all at once. Yeah, we shot our shot on the very first question. So what are we doing for two, three, four? Let's find out what happens in question, too, because Liz's second question says, our one and only date we had was a long time ago, and I remember it ending way sooner than what I hoped for.
Starting point is 00:16:16 Oh. I think that's my fault. Okay. What do you remember from that night? Ooh. I can't believe you put this to Liz. It says in parentheses, and it's okay to say I looked good too. That's cute.
Starting point is 00:16:30 That's flirtatious. Okay. I like that, Liz. Okay. Okay. So Thomas writes back, he says, from what I remember, I believe it started off pretty good. Okay. We were laughing a lot.
Starting point is 00:16:44 So that's the same as you. We're on the same page still. That's good. And we barely put in our dinner order when your phone started blowing up. He does remember. How could he forget? Apparently, your ex was drunk and causing a scene outside your apartment. He kept calling, then your roommate started calling.
Starting point is 00:17:01 Oh. And then your landlord threatened to call the police. Oh, my gosh, that was worse than what we heard. Dot, dot, dot, dot, not the most ideal first date. Yeah. Should have let that landlord call the police. Then it would have been taken care of by the time you got back to your place. Oh, my God.
Starting point is 00:17:18 I don't even remember all this stuff. God. I should have let the landlord call the cop. Well, in your defense, it was a long time ago, and there was a lot of stress that night. I'm sure you tried to block some of that out. Yikes. And you were 22 years old at the time. I mean, we were all stupid at 22 years old.
Starting point is 00:17:34 Yeah. That's just part of the age. Some of us stupider than others. Most of us in this room. Question three. I can't figure out who he's talking about. Yeah. I know.
Starting point is 00:17:44 You keep thinking about it. Question three says, I know my ex, parentheses back then, messed it up for me, and I'm I regret it. Did he say something to you to scare you away? Oh. Yes. It's one of my biggest regrets. Yes, that's what we don't want to know.
Starting point is 00:17:59 Here's what we want to, because here's the one piece of information that we didn't have is what happened between the two of them while Liz was inside the apartment. This is like, kind of like a murder mystery right now. This is the one question that really has been bothering me all these years that I really want to know the answer to. Yeah. Well, he did answer it, so let's get you some closure here. He says, after we took.
Starting point is 00:18:21 took our food to go, we got to your apartment, and both you and your ex were crying messes. Oh, no. Wait, why she was crying to you? Well, remember, she was crying at the restaurant. That's why he wouldn't let her drive home. Oh, because she was so upset. Yes. This is a fun segment because she's remembering and Jose is remembering what happened 10 minutes ago.
Starting point is 00:18:41 I'm trying to focus on one thing at a time, okay? It's good. We're still in it. He continues, in fact, you went inside and left me outside with him. Ah, okay. It wasn't that he was trying to take one for the team. You abandoned him. I didn't know what to do back then.
Starting point is 00:18:59 Oh, yeah. This is such a messy night. He continues. He says, I think his name was Matt or Max. Can't remember. But I do know he was really drunk and ugly crying. Oh, man. He started telling me all about how he messed up the relationship.
Starting point is 00:19:16 That's nice for him to take accountability. Yeah. Sounds like a great guy. I'm sure. He says, dude was way too drunk to drive. I ended up driving him in his car back to his place. Oh, wow. Took a cab back to my car and realized you took all the food inside with you.
Starting point is 00:19:35 Oh, no. So I just left. You stole his to go box? I thought I was doing him a favor by putting it in my refrigerator. Oh, my God. Oh, Liz. Wow. Okay.
Starting point is 00:19:48 No wonder he said not interested in that first question. Oh, this is bad. All right. Well, we have one more question to go through. We'll just wrap this up. Well, we should just get the final closure. Okay. Question four says, this may be a long shot, but what do you think about getting a cup of coffee and catching up?
Starting point is 00:20:07 Well, she wrote that before she had answered. Well, she asked if he was single before and now, yeah, okay. Okay. So she says, or we could go out and have another crazy night together. No, you did not write that. I promise this time my ex won't show up. Ha, ha, ha, ha. Oh, I bet he's laughing so hard.
Starting point is 00:20:24 So he writes back, once again, no thank you. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. Yeah. Oh, no. I never kind of recovered from all that. What do you feel, Liz? You feel like you got some closure there?
Starting point is 00:20:39 Yeah, like amusement park. I just got off all the rides. I'm done. Yeah. But I am curious, whatever did happen to your ex-boyfriend after he got home that night. Oh, God. I think he came over the next morning. Oh, Betty did.
Starting point is 00:20:53 Oh, God. And we ended up eating all the food that we had from dinner last night. No. Thomas's leftovers. That's so perfect. That is the perfect end to this story. Brooke and Jeffrey in the morning. Behind every night spent making the kids' lunches, there's a lot of suspense.
