Starting point is 00:00:00 Hey, it's Tuesday. We've got a brand new full show for you with a special mother-in-law awkward Tuesday phone call. I like that you say it. It's a nice little treat. It's always fun to call mother-in-laws. Oh, way. No sarcasm there. And a lot more fun on the way.
Starting point is 00:00:16 But just a reminder, Tuesday means that our brand new in studio is up. That's where we videotape our second dates and we post them up on our YouTube page so that you can watch instead of just listen. Something for all your senses are up. right now at YouTube at Brooke and Jeffrey. Just to get smells next. Have those pop out of the screen. Yeah, you're right. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:00:35 You wouldn't want that. No, no. All right. Before we get to the full show, what do we got in comments? Yeah, Cortez said, hey, I'm a big fan of you guys from Kenya. Cool. And I just figured out if I set my VPN to USA, I can listen to you guys live on your website. Hey.
Starting point is 00:00:48 Oh, hey. The radio station. Yeah. I love that. I still don't know how to work a VPN. I've only tried it for Love Island before you came. Oh, I do it for flights, but I can't, I can't ever get it right. I don't know what I'm doing wrong.
Starting point is 00:01:01 Oh, Coach, as we need your help. Yeah, exactly, exactly. All right, here we go. Your brand new full hour starts right now. Would you look at that? We're exactly 100 business days till the end of the year. Whoa, really?
Starting point is 00:01:14 Really? Oh, my God. It's Brooke and Jeffrey in the morning, and you know what that means? We're counting down the top 100 complaints Brooke has against her husband. Oh, my way of time. We had to limit it to just 100 because she had so many more. That's not very nice, Jeff.
Starting point is 00:01:36 We did this last year. No, it is. You're right. And we did this last year for me personally. I didn't think I would enjoy it, but I kind of did. Because her husband Michael was on the phone for every complaint, and he never argued, just whimpered quietly into the receiver the entire time. I love you, honey.
Starting point is 00:01:57 And to be fair, it was pitched that we do Michael's, top two complaints against Brooke. But when we did the pre-interview for that, he just wanted less time confined to the basement. And we were like, yeah, duh, Michael, that's not creative. No wonder Brooke has so many complaints about you. That's not good radio. Thanks for having my back.
Starting point is 00:02:17 Exactly. You are my friends. I finally see what you're talking about with your husband. So whiny, right? Make sure to tune in tomorrow when we start the countdown. Oh, tomorrow we do it. All the way up to New Year's Eve. when she gets to kick him in the cones.
Starting point is 00:02:34 Yep, it's Brooks. Instead of kissing at midnight? Yeah. It's a annual tradition. Brooks' top 100 complaints about her husband. So now that we're done with that show note, let's send it over to the man who I have personally no complaints about, other than his pants aren't tight enough.
Starting point is 00:02:53 Jake and Bake for the shot collar question of the day. Well, normally at this time, we need some kind of ridiculous, obscure holiday to inspire our trivia, like National Toonail Appreciation Day or National Drive with Your Lobster Day. Aw, that's so cute. But not today. Oh, okay. Because we're finding out how much you know about the weird, wild, and important things that
Starting point is 00:03:16 happened on today's date, August 18th during a special The Last Word edition of plenty of 20. Sounds interesting. It is interesting, Brooke. Everything I do is interesting. Sorry, I complimented you. Just say a number one through 20, and I'll read you a sentence. For example, on this day back in 1920, women finally gamed the right to...
Starting point is 00:03:42 Vote! Thank you, Jose. I'm playing about their hygiene. Yes, vote is correct. So you have the last word. Nice. I mean, if we were going to get technical, it was white women, but whatever. All right, Brooke, that's too many words.
Starting point is 00:03:54 I'm thinking for one word. It's a issue. Standing it for the whites. It's pretty simple. The game is pretty simple. In fact, it's extremely simple. So simple, I don't think anyone could possibly get any of these wrong. We'll start with the woman who's constantly filling in the blanks on her mom's checkbook.
Starting point is 00:04:12 That's Alexis. You know how to read a check. Yeah, I was going to say, I was going to say that. She was a number part at least. Eight. All right, take your time, Alexis. But remember, you only have 11 seconds to answer. In the year 1590, John White returns to the call.
Starting point is 00:04:29 of Roanoke to find all the colonists. Why would you give me a history question? Remember, one word. It's a day, it's a history segment. All the colonists alive. A day in history. Everybody survived. Everybody's happy.
Starting point is 00:04:47 They're all hooking up, in fact. Shaking shots. Final answer. You know what? Even though that was a terrible guess, I'm going to give you one more chance. And remember, you have the last word. In the year 1590, John White returns to the colony of Roanoke to find all the colonists. Gone.
Starting point is 00:05:07 Dead. That's got to count. What's your word? Away. They left. What's your word? Gone. Gone girl. I'm sorry, Alexis.
Starting point is 00:05:16 The word I was looking for was missing. Not gone. Not dead. Technically gone. Couldn't prove that they were dead. They were just missing. So this is how the game works. Alexis, oh, boy, got that one wrong.
Starting point is 00:05:29 I'm going to be really specific with your word. You have to, and you only got to say one. It could have been gone in plain sight. All right, Brooke, it's your turn. Eight is off the board. Seven. On this day, back in 2018, the world's oldest cheese was discovered. It was found near.
Starting point is 00:05:45 Remember one word. Near, where were they making cheese back in the old days? Cheese factory. Switzerland is really the mecca of cheese. I feel like England's going to keep it in somebody's basement. Is Egypt doing cheese? Are they just doing... I need one word, Brooke.
Starting point is 00:06:02 It's called the last word. Show me Egypt. Egypt is correct. We've also accepted Cairo because Cairo is one word. Okay. Very good, Brooke. The world's cheese was discovered in Egypt.
Starting point is 00:06:16 See, people... Chiro, Egypt gone missing. Yes. Alexis, it's one word. Okay. Jose, it's the last word. We're playing it. And it's your turn.
Starting point is 00:06:26 Seven and eight are off the board. Let's go 10. Number 10. On this day in 1949, footwear innovator and designer Adi Dossler created and founded a now world-famous company called Adi Dossler of the Dossalium Empire.
Starting point is 00:06:46 Oh. Come on. I see it. I think we all see it. Ryan Dosselin's mother. Fashioned rationale. That's too many words.
Starting point is 00:06:57 I'm sorry, Jose. Ardidas. You had it, Jose. We don't get it. Adidas. Adidas. Adidas. Right there.
Starting point is 00:07:07 Right there. You had it. You said. Too many words. Jeffrey, we're over to you now. Brooks is the only one that's gotten one right, regrettably. And it's your turn. Eight, seven, and ten are off the board.
Starting point is 00:07:17 Number two. On this day, in 1783, off the coast of Great Britain, hundreds of witnesses claimed to have seen a giant great ball. of fire What is right off the coast of Britain A giant ball
Starting point is 00:07:37 of reverse cowgirl I'm sorry I'm going to disqualify you Jeffrey That's far too many words We are playing the last word What said in the room? Fire Big ball of fire That's the sun Well no
Starting point is 00:07:51 Scientists didn't know at the time It was probably a meteor Back then they thought it was an atmospheric electrical phenomenon, people contributed to a flying dragon. But big ball of fire. So after playing the last word, that means Brooke has won today.
Starting point is 00:08:08 Plenty of 20. Add it to her husband's complaints about her. She knows too much information and she gets to choose who gets shocked. They're going to be singing bye-bye-bye by in sync. Who's it going to be? Oh, just Alexis for embarrassing us. Oh yeah, with the word gone?
Starting point is 00:08:23 Yikes. Gone instead of missing? Come on. How can you Just lock in a little bit. Don't want to be a fool for you. Just another player in a game for two. You may hate me, but it ain't no lie, baby. Bye, bye, bye, bye.
Starting point is 00:08:41 Bye, bye, bye. That's over. That's your shock caller question of the day. Brooke and Jeffrey in the morning. In sports, they have punishments for when athletes do unsportsman-like conduct. Oh, for sure. Like in soccer, you get a red card. Oh, yeah.
Starting point is 00:08:59 In hockey, they put you in the penalty box. Oh, yeah. In golf, they make you play the next hole with your mother-in-law. It's harsh, but it is effective. How is she always just right there ready to do it? That's why we really need to come up with a punishment for when Brooke shows on sportsmen like conduct in trivia. Oh, come on, Jeff. You've heard it.
Starting point is 00:09:21 She is mean to her competitors, to the scorekeepers, and to the hands. handsome host that's reading the questions. Yeah, who needs a pair of glasses. There's no for any negative repercussions for her. We have to think of something before she badmouths another listener in a brand new round of trivia coming up right now. Well, this is a really interesting situation we have here. A guy named Randy is on the phone. And last time Randy played Brooke was back in 2018.
Starting point is 00:10:01 We're talking almost a full. decade ago. And for those who have no idea, listeners are always complaining to us that they can't get through on the phone lines because they're always totally packed. So we asked Randy, how did he manage to get through back in the day? And he said he was using three phones at once every morning. Randy. Randy, is that true? That is true. Wow. Your phone plan must have been expensive. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I tried to keep the cost down, but I eventually got through. Okay. How many phones are we up to now?
Starting point is 00:10:35 I'm assuming like eight or nine? No, no, just two. Oh, wow. You've downgraded. I see. Economy's tough. I get it. You can't afford three of those things anymore.
Starting point is 00:10:45 Cool. All right. Cool. What was it like in 2018? Did you win is what I want to know? No, I didn't. I think you beat me by one, but I don't remember. Oh, sure.
Starting point is 00:10:57 You don't have it written down. No. No. No. Don't worry. I also don't remember 2018, brother. I think we're all in the same boat. But let's move on to the game, Randy, because now's your chance for redemption.
Starting point is 00:11:08 30 seconds on the clock. This call is being recorded. What? Oh, he's recording us. Hey, brother, we're the ones doing the recording round here. Okay. We could send you the podcast. Come on.
Starting point is 00:11:20 I like that we're recording each other. But you know how it works. 30 seconds to answer as many questions as possible. If you don't know when you can say pass, but you have to beat Brooke outright if you want to win. Are you ready? I'm ready. You got this. Time starts now. Who was the last member to join the Beatles? John, George, Paul, or Ringo?
Starting point is 00:11:38 Ringo. When a new ship set sail for the first time, that trip is referred to as what? Maiden Voyage. What meat is inside of a McDonald's egg McMuffin? Sausage. In baseball, what does the position D.H. stand for? Designated hitter. What's the name of the 90s Seattle fashion trend of flannel shirts, ripped jeans with an unkempt vibe?
Starting point is 00:12:00 Dang it. You can still answer. Sandal socks guy. The classic Seattle Sandal socks guy. Yeah. Love that, Randy. Okay. Brooke is now back in the studio here.
Starting point is 00:12:19 How to go to you best, too, by the way. Yeah. And I mean, Randy, on my screener, I have literally no information about you. So tell us what was going on in your life eight years ago and how have things changed since then. Well, I've retired and I'm now a grandfather and I'm enjoying grandkids. Wow. Wow. That's crazy.
Starting point is 00:12:37 Yeah, baby. How many grandkids now? Seven. Whoa. Yep. Dang. All in the last eight years? Dang.
Starting point is 00:12:45 Yep. And your family knows how to reproduce. Yep, they do. Okay. And do you want to shout out your favorite grandchild now or would you like to keep that a secret? That would be a negative. Okay. We all know it's the first one.
Starting point is 00:12:59 They're all my family. favorite. You know that. Randy. What a good guy you are. Yep, yep, yep. Okay. Are we still recording? I think so. Brooke, you're being recorded.
Starting point is 00:13:11 Yeah, we're being recorded. Right before it started it was like, we're recording him and he's recording us back. For our safety. Yes. He's going to air this immediately. All right. You're definitely going to want to catch this, Randy, because it is Brooke's turn. Brooke, are you ready? Yes.
Starting point is 00:13:22 Your time starts now. Who was the last member to join the Beatles, John, George, Paul O'Ringo? When a new ship set sale for the first. time. That trip is referred to as What made-in voyage? What meat is inside of a McDonald's Egg McMuffin? Ah, ham. In baseball, what does the position
Starting point is 00:13:40 D.H. stand for? Designated hitter. What's the name of the 90s Seattle fashion trend of flannel shirts, rich Ginge? Okay. What type of milk is a staple ingredient in Thai cooking? Oh, coconut. Coconut.
Starting point is 00:13:56 Coconut milk. We'll take all those answers in and bring them on over to the score. board with our own Jose. Are you cutting your toenails with a steak knife? I suppose you have a problem with that too. Balanos. Randy, you got three correct today.
Starting point is 00:14:11 Oh, dang it. You don't think that's enough, Randy? No, I don't. You're still trying to delete the recording if you want to. Yeah, that's true. You can stop recording right now. You may want to because Brooke got six. Oh, man.
Starting point is 00:14:25 Wow. Bringing it. Good job, Brooke. Ah, thanks, Randy. Graceful, very graceful. Well, Randy, let's go over the answers to everybody. Last member to join the Beatles was Ringo. He joined on this day back in 1962.
Starting point is 00:14:37 That was a good job that he got. Yeah. When a new ship sets sail for the first time, it's referred to as the maiden voyage. The meat inside of a McDonald's egg McMuffin, we were looking for Canadian bacon as the answer. We did give her ham. That's what Canadian bacon is. It technically ham. Okay.
Starting point is 00:14:54 If we're going to get pity points today, that's fine. In baseball, the position D.H stands for designated him. and the Seattle fashion trend from the 90s of flannel shirts, ripped jeans, and an unkempt vibe would be grunge. We didn't give them any points for socks and sandals guy. That was pretty close.
Starting point is 00:15:13 It deserved at least a half a point, in my opinion. And the type of milk that's a staple ingredient in Thai cooking would be coconut milk. I'm craving some Thai curry right now. I literally just drooled saying the little coconut notes. Yeah, that was weird. Anyway, Randy, I'm sorry. It wasn't enough to win, but just for playing.
Starting point is 00:15:30 we're giving you a $25 Disney gift card valid at any Disney resort, theme park, or online in the Disney store. Awesome. Thank you. All right. All right. Well, Randy, what does the day hold for you now, huh?
Starting point is 00:15:44 Not sure yet. Okay, that's what being retired is like. Yeah, what is like, yeah. Just a lot of sitting around, not sure what to do. Yeah. There you go. You are living the dream, Randy. We all admire it.
Starting point is 00:15:56 I am. I am. But don't make it another eight years before you come back and play again. I will do my best. All right. Pleasure having you on. Brooke and Jeffrey in the morning. Growing up, I used to laugh whenever my parents would say,
Starting point is 00:16:11 don't hang out with that person. They're a bad influence. If you spend too much time with them, you'll only get accepted into Princeton and not Yale. Oh, no. Is that worse? Oh. For him it is.
Starting point is 00:16:23 For them, I don't know. Okay. But one of our listeners wishes he'd listen to his parents' warnings. because it only took one night hanging out with the wrong friend to make a terrifying memory that's haunted him since his junior year of high school. And now he's finally ready to admit it
Starting point is 00:16:42 in a brand new mass speaker. It's coming up right after this. You don't know me. A confession I can't take back. I am. The mast speaker. Text to 78592 says went to the barbers this morning,
Starting point is 00:17:00 and at the end, he asked me three times if I needed anything else or wanted any product. Okay. I kept saying, no thanks, but he was offering me drugs,
Starting point is 00:17:12 wasn't he? Oh, he's just offering styling gel. I've got 30 grams of pure Colombian curle enhancer from my guy, and it's okay to admit that here on the mass speaker because we keep you anonymous for it. And we've got a dude on the phone right now
Starting point is 00:17:27 who wants to come clean on the radio using Chad as his fake name. I see what you did with Come Clean. That's right. You don't never know. Do you really mean by that? Chad, welcome to the show, man. Hello, how are you?
Starting point is 00:17:38 How many drugs do you buy from your barber, Chad? Well, sounds like not enough. Yeah. Yeah, that's right. We'll hook you up with our guy, but the voice changer is on. You are the mass speaker. Whenever you're ready, we want to hear your confession. Oh, yeah, okay.
Starting point is 00:17:54 Just so you know, this is the first time I've ever told anybody this, but it happened when I was 17 and I just did something really dumb. Now that I'm looking back on it, I'm a little older. It's kind of funny, but at the time, it was not funny at all. Yeah, but anything that you do before age 18 doesn't really count. I would say before age 25. Yeah. You got a free pass on bad decisions before.
Starting point is 00:18:15 I mean, I don't think you're really an adult until 25. Totally. Yeah, that's why the rental cars do that. Exactly. They know what's up. Anyway, so what happened when you were 17? I had this one buddy of mine who was very fun
Starting point is 00:18:27 but like a terrible influence My husband and I talk about what friends of our sons Right now are going to be that friend Yeah Like you can tell Are you still going to let Alder hang out with that friend? Oh yeah I think some mischief is good Yeah
Starting point is 00:18:41 He needs that some excitement in his young world So you don't want Alder be a nerd My son might be that friend Oh really good Okay All right so you knew that bad influence guy Yeah always got in trouble always was up to something.
Starting point is 00:18:56 And somehow, like, this one night, I went with him and, like, did this terribly stupid, dumb thing. You had me pick him up. And, like, I'm driving. He's giving me directions. Okay. And finally, after 20 minutes, I'm like, dude, where are we going? What are we doing? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:19:11 He's like, just chill out, bro. It's cool. It's going to be so sick when we get there. You're going to love this. And at 17, that's all you need to hear. Oh, it's going to be sick. Oh, it's going to be awesome. Oh, yeah.
Starting point is 00:19:22 Sweet. All, floor. You think you're going to roll up to this field and it's going to be covered in beautiful women and bikinis. Is that what happened? No, we pull into a shopping center. Oh, okay. Yeah, and this is like well past midnight, maybe like 1245, something real late. Everything's closed.
Starting point is 00:19:41 Okay. This isn't good. The guy pulls out a ski mask, like a black ski mask. No, you're out. You're out at that point. Is this shopping center at the top of a ski slope? Yeah, midnight ski. Please?
Starting point is 00:19:54 We're definitely not at the top of a ski slope. No. Oh, darn it. Too bad. You could have the whole mountain to yourself. Yeah. Okay. What happens?
Starting point is 00:20:01 So he puts on the ski mask and he's like, stop here. I was like, what are you like, what are you about to break into the zibis or something? Yeah. What's going on here? Yeah. I need those sweet skate shoes, man. Yeah. And the guy just stops.
Starting point is 00:20:15 He smiles. I got, I'm not, I'm not doing this. He goes, no, you're not doing this. You're my guy. getaway driver. What? Wait. Dude, you're about to ruin your whole life, man. Don't tell us this. You're right, get away. Once he gets out of the car, you just drive
Starting point is 00:20:30 away. That's right. That's right, Jose. He's serious? I didn't even have a chance to say anything. He just, like, he opens the door and he's out of the car. Oh, God. So did he rob the place? He pulls a rock out of his pocket. Oh, God. And next thing, you know, the alarms are going off, and I'm, like, freaking out. I don't know what to do.
Starting point is 00:20:48 Yeah, and I like that he didn't give you a ski mask. Only he's protecting his eyes. identity. What kind of friend is this? Well, he's going to get one inside of Zootmy's for him, obviously. What the hell, man? Oh, my God. Don't worry. They won't know who I am. Yeah, he turns on the headlight before he leaves.
Starting point is 00:21:04 Dude, this is horrible. Yeah, dude, hops out of the car, comes back, like, just a few minutes later, arms filled with stuff, bunch of stuff in his hands. It looks like a movie. He's like, move, move, move, drive, drive, go, go, go. I'm like, dude, I'm not doing this. I'm not like, what is wrong? of you, like, I'm not going to go, go, drive, drive.
Starting point is 00:21:24 He says, fine, move over. He's like, slide over, I'll drive, I'll drive. Which was actually a good decision because I'm, like, a bad driver. Like, I wouldn't have been able to see that. Okay. Well, you're 17. Everyone's a bad driver at that age. He's like, quick, parallel park over there.
Starting point is 00:21:41 Three-point turn, come on. Dude, that's awful. You were just part of a robbery. Yeah. But you didn't know it until it happened. It doesn't matter in court. But the cops don't know that. They don't care.
Starting point is 00:21:50 What happens? We take off, and within a minute, there's sirens and lights behind us. Oh, because the alarm. Oh, yeah. And we're flying, dude. Oh, my gosh. He's going easily 9,500 miles an hour through, like, our town. Oh, God.
Starting point is 00:22:07 And we somehow lose the cops. That's so lucky. And awful. I mean, yeah, for sure. That goes without saying, but you're lucky they didn't catch you. Yeah. It was over. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:22:19 So, like, we stop, we get out. and he starts going through like his hall like all everything that he took and dude it's all women's clothes you only stole girl stuff yeah it's like now here we are
Starting point is 00:22:34 two guys nothing but ladies clothes from Zucchines oh man but I bet you had the best Von Dutch hat oh yeah it was so stupid and then this idiot he's wearing this clothes
Starting point is 00:22:46 to school the next week the ladies clothes yeah he's in like this tight little sweater and like swayed pants and you can see his mid-triff. Don't judge a man's fashion, okay? You can judge him by the crime. I know. That's what Harry Styles wears right now. Somebody sounds jealous
Starting point is 00:23:01 from reading this red. And he was filling them out so well. I'm like, why are you wearing this dude? I thought you were going to like sell this stuff or something. And he's like, nobody's going to buy this crap. It's still got the sensor tags on them. Oh, God. Okay.
Starting point is 00:23:15 All right. Please tell me you weren't friends with this guy any longer. He's like the worst friend ever. Yeah. No, I don't hang out with him anymore. I was like, thank God we never got caught. Yeah. That's like the only, like, close encounter I've had with the law, like, ever. Wow.
Starting point is 00:23:31 Your senior year, did he get voted best dress, though? I don't even know. I just try to stay away from that guy now. Well, hopefully it feels better to admit that on the radio. Yeah, I've never told anybody that, and it does feel good to get it out. Wow. We're next to somebody as they robbed us. And you gave Brooke's son.
Starting point is 00:23:50 something to aspire to one day. That's not the type of mischief I was talking about. He's going to robber Forever 21. It's more like cow tipping or something. He's got class. Anyway, thank you for confessing. And text in to 7-8-5-9-2 if you have a confession you've been holding on to. We'll hide your identity, mask your voice, and make you our next mass speaker. We've got your phone tab coming up right after this.
Starting point is 00:24:11 Brooke and Jeffrey in the morning. Have you guys seen the news lately? Can't get enough. Yeah. At least the news that I made up in my head. Oh. No, because there's... I didn't watch that channel.
Starting point is 00:24:22 There's a larger-than-life caterpillar infestation, and it's coming directly our way. So I... It's not cute. It's scary. Everyone who lives in a 15-mile radius to warn them and let them know the city is taking care of it
Starting point is 00:24:40 in their typical city way by making everything worse. Oh, that makes sense. We've got it under control in your phone tap right now. Phone taps on the 20s. Hello. Hi, I'm looking for Peter T. Yeah, this is he.
Starting point is 00:24:58 Hey, Peter. I work at the city of R. My name's Max Gerth. Oh, yeah, is everything okay? Did I pay my bill? Bills are all up to date as far as I know. I'm the city arborist. Oh, okay.
Starting point is 00:25:12 I'm the guy who deals with trees. You deal with trees? Right, exactly. So I'm reaching out to everyone in your neighborhood today regarding the upcoming caterpillar season. Oh. Okay. You're familiar? I mean, I have to be honest, I'm not completely up to date on the caterpillar situation.
Starting point is 00:25:29 I know we have a few. It's all over the news right now. This year's supposed to be the worst season for caterpillar infestation. Okay. And your area in particular where you live is going to be a hotbed for those furry little f***es. Whoa. Language. I'm sorry, but it's warranted. You do not want to mess with those little pieces of shit.
Starting point is 00:25:49 You'll eat your whole house down. Right to the studs. Wow. I guess I didn't understand the severity of this. So you're saying it's a big deal. Huge, huge deal. So the city's trying to be more proactive about the whole thing. We're going to be in your neighborhood on, let's see, on Thursday to cut down most of your trees.
Starting point is 00:26:12 Wait, what? The only way to deal with these putrid little bastards is to knock their homes down before they show up. You're not going to cut down my trees. It's my property. You can't just come and cut down my tree. Okay. I mean, I guess technically you're right. I'll probably have one of my guys do it, so it won't be me per se.
Starting point is 00:26:31 No. But the trees are going down. You're not listening to me. You're not cutting down my trees. My family loves my trees. We have a swing hanging from one of my trees. My kids love my trees. I love my trees.
Starting point is 00:26:43 You're not cutting them down. Listen, you know, Woodville, the city 20 minutes up north from you? They had the same. same issue with Caterpillars back in 2015 and you know what happened? You know many people still live there? I don't have the population chart in front of me but...
Starting point is 00:26:59 I mean, it is still a lot, technically more than before, but it was pretty bad. Wait, wait, wait. They weren't happy about it. I'm confused. Exactly. That's why I'm in charge. I'm going to make the decisions. All right? Do you trust me? I do not. Do you trust the city? At the moment, not really.
Starting point is 00:27:15 Because we've made great choices in the past. Oh. Remember the traffic roundabout that we put in? The one that took two years and blocked up traffic. I mean, okay, did it take a long time? Was it $2 million over budget? Sure. But it's cool now.
Starting point is 00:27:32 Have you seen the fountain? Yeah, I mean, what is the fountain in the middle of the roundabout have to do with caterpillars in my trees? It's proof that the city makes good decisions. Now, my question is... I highly doubt that. Well, start coming around. I want to know when is it best for us to deliver the cardboard? trees.
Starting point is 00:27:50 Like fake trees? Are you kidding me? We're going to make big cardboard cutout so those little sh**es think they can nest. You're telling me that we are in the midst of an encroaching caterpillar invasion. You need to take my trees down
Starting point is 00:28:07 and you're going to put up faux fake cardboard trees? Yeah. The only way to beat the caterpillars is to punk them. Wait, what? To punk what? They're going to climb up to the very top and then boom. whole thing falls down.
Starting point is 00:28:20 Catterpunked. Did you just say catapunked? I did. Caterpillars are very responsive to slapstick humor. That's just a weird thing for an arborist to say. I just... Is it a weird thing for a radio host to say who's doing a prank phone call? I don't know.
Starting point is 00:28:39 I've never had a radio host call me and do a prank phone call. Yes, you have had a radio host call you right now because my name is Jeff from Brooke and Jeffrey in the morning. This is a phone tab, dude. What? What? What? It's a joke. Oh, wait a minute. Yeah, dude, your sister Savannah set you up. She knew how it set you'd get if the city said they were going to mess with your trees, so she told us to mess with you.
Starting point is 00:29:05 Are you allowed to say those foul words on the radio now? What do you mean foul words? Those are sentence enhancers. Broken Jeffrey's phone taps on the 20s. Brooke and Jeffrey in the morning. A lot of people will tell you the hardest part of being a new parent is the sleepless nights. Yes. Or the constant worrying. Or learning that a blowout no longer means that you're getting your hair done.
Starting point is 00:29:34 Ew. It does not. It is not pretty. Not anymore. One of our listeners says all of those are nothing compared to the headache that she's dealing with. It involves a member of her family making. a ridiculous demand. You won't believe what this
Starting point is 00:29:51 person is asking for just hours after the mom gave birth. Whoa! You're going to hear it in your brand new Awkward Tuesday phone call. Next. It's awkward. It's Tuesday. It's awkward Tuesday phone call. This might be a first for our show.
Starting point is 00:30:09 In fact, I know it is. It's Brooke and Jeffrey in the morning because we just got a request this morning asking if we could do a phone call from a woman who recently gave birth only two days ago. What? Oh, I'm going to talk to the baby. No, go to sleep.
Starting point is 00:30:27 You're delirious. You're delirious. This is not how we should be here. What are you doing? Don't call a new mom delirious. Bro, that's not kind. I've been a new mom. You are delirious.
Starting point is 00:30:37 We don't know what the situation is. Her name is April. And April, first of all, I'm going to say, congratulations on this incredible moment. Is the baby happy? and healthy? Baby is happy and healthy. Aw.
Starting point is 00:30:52 That's really nice to hear. Dude, that recovery is rough. Good luck. I'm serious. Come through with some optimism for her. It gets better. That's good. I will say it is a little odd that you're asking for an awkward Tuesday phone call
Starting point is 00:31:08 immediately after childbirth. I mean, what is going on where you felt like you had to reach out? Yeah, I actually messaged you guys while I was still in the hospital because I only been home for like a few hours. What? What? Wait.
Starting point is 00:31:21 Wait. Are you still on drugs? That's a good epitaph. No, it's the situation is time sensitive based on the birth. Okay. What's going on? Is it have to do with your baby? It has to do with my baby and my mother-in-law.
Starting point is 00:31:39 Oh. Yeah. I thought we were calling the dad. I'm just going to tell you, like, your relationship with your husband changes after a baby, but it really changes with your mother-in-law after a baby. Why, what's going on with your mom-in-law? Well, I will say in her defense, I think she means well, but she is being a little overbearing, and I need a nice way to tell her to back off.
Starting point is 00:32:03 Okay. I'm already scared here. Okay. Let's back up a little bit. Why? Why do you feel that way? What happened? Okay, so my husband is definitely a mama's boy, and she dotes on him.
Starting point is 00:32:16 She'll do impromptu stuff. by the house, bring some food, make sure he's eating, you know, stuff like that. Make sure he's eating. Okay, so they have a healthy relationship, it sounds like. She was a helicopter mom and continues to be is what it sounds like. Okay. They love each other and you're jealous. Keep going.
Starting point is 00:32:32 I would describe it as annoying but sweet. Okay. An only child, so I get it. I can handle it. Okay. Still spoiled by his mom. Yeah, he's the only child. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:32:44 That makes sense. It's where all the energy goes. All right. And then I got pregnant. and things changed. Yeah, why would you do that? Why would you ruin everything? I know, how dare I?
Starting point is 00:32:55 Yeah, I mean, what was the first part fine, like the pregnancy part with your mother-in-law? Yeah, I mean, I will say, like, continued to be a little annoying, but overall really was, like, a great help with everything and is, like, super excited and Landon hosted the baby shower, like, positive. That's cute. So that sounds good. Okay, yes. So fast forward to the week before my due date, she comes over to our place and, like, sits us both down and says, after the baby, I want you to both come to my house so I can take care of the baby and make sure you're, like, relaxed and rested. Oh, I mean, that's, that's well intention. But, yeah, I wouldn't want to be outside of my home after I gave birth. Yeah. Right? I'm like, you don't want to go to somebody else's house. You want to be with your own stuff. You want to be with your baby. You want to be with your husband. It just has such a raw, vulnerable time for a woman.
Starting point is 00:33:47 Like, you need a little space from your mother-in-law. It's time for you and your husband to, I don't know, like, connect, you know? Plus, it's time for you to show the house to the baby, like, everybody's crib. You're stuck here for 18 years. You can't leave. This is your prison. Okay. So did you, what did you say to her when she invited you to stay?
Starting point is 00:34:09 Well, my husband was, like, we'll discuss it, but she, like, really hasn't let it go. She's asked multiple times, even while we were in the hospital when she first saw the baby. And now we're on a time crunch because I get home just, like I said, hours ago. And I get a text from her saying the house is already for the baby's arrival. Where are you getting there? That's a little. It would make more sense if she came and stayed with you to take care of you and to do the laundry and to cook at your house. That would make a lot more sense.
Starting point is 00:34:42 But that is not what's on the table. That is so weird You're feeling what about this? Pressure? Like, why can't you just tell her no? I don't know. I mean, I just kind of feel like Me and my husband like neither one of us know what to say
Starting point is 00:34:56 Because like she is being sweet But like also she's being crazy. Yeah. How do you say that? It's very passive aggressive. But okay, wait. She, you haven't given her a response yet, right? Have you responded to her yes or no that this was going to happen?
Starting point is 00:35:10 Yeah, I mean, when she first brought it up, I said like that's probably not. going to work, but like, since that conversation, we've just been kind of avoiding it. Yeah. But the thing is, it's like, I don't want to get on her bad side because she likes me and we get along really well, but I have seen how she is with people that she is not feeling good about. Well, and girl, you need that free babysitting, so let's be honest. Brooks right, yeah.
Starting point is 00:35:37 She's already operating. Okay. So thank you for helping all the way up through my pregnancy. but now we need a break, temporarily. Until we call you and need your help again. Yes. Until the laundry needs to be done. We'll try to condense that into something shorter and sweeter sounding
Starting point is 00:35:56 when we come back and give you our advice and let you call your mother-in-law in your awkward Tuesday phone call to tell her, I'm not staying at your house with my brand new baby. No. We'll do it right after this. Hold on. It's awkward. It's Tuesday. It's awkward.
Starting point is 00:36:14 Tuesday phone call. How do you tell your mother-in-law just two days after giving birth that you are not going to go stay over at her house and let her take care of your newborn? Oh, man. That is the question that our listener, April, has come to us needing help with because her mother-in-law has been extremely helpful, very involved during April's entire pregnancy. and she's so excited to step in and help out with their new arrival in the family, which makes it a little bit more difficult to be stern with her and tell her, hey, we appreciate all the help, but we are not going to be staying at your house for weeks on end.
Starting point is 00:36:57 How do you deliver that message to her politely? That's where hopefully, Brooke, you have some helpful tips for April. What do you think? Well, I think April first, you do have to remember that your mother-in-law is coming from a place of just wanting to be involved, right? She's very excited. And so before you tell her, not now, you got to give her something to look forward to, right? So maybe you say, oh, my God, in four months, when I go back to work or whatever is happening in your life, April, I would love it if you could help take care of the baby.
Starting point is 00:37:28 Wow. You can't see this baby for four months. No, I'm just saying, like that there's a plan ahead, right? Yes. Yes. But right now, I'm in a really vulnerable state. I just want to hunker down with just me and the baby and my husband. And we're just going to spend this time by ourselves.
Starting point is 00:37:46 So we're going to stay home right now. But in four months, it's all going to be about you. There we go. I think that's good. It softens the blow and it gives her plenty of baby time. That's good. Okay. So that's one piece of advice.
Starting point is 00:38:00 Put a light at the end of the tunnel. Tell mother-in-law to walk towards the light. Jose, what's your advice? I think the best choice is to not make it your decision. Okay. that you brought it up to the doctor, like I mentioned we're going to your place, and the doctor immediately said no. You got to go back into your own environment,
Starting point is 00:38:19 be at your own place with your baby. It's a health recommendation that you get space. Oh, yeah. Maybe you could bring up that your mother-in-law doesn't have the right immunizations. That always goes over well. Oh, yeah. Well, okay, here's my concern. I feel like I'm not a good liar, so I feel like she won't buy.
Starting point is 00:38:38 The doctor said no. And then if she catches with that I'm lying, then the feisty side might come out. There you go. You just create more of a mess for yourself if you get caught, that's for sure. We'll use it as like an emergency red button that you hit just in case nothing else is working. Jeff will act as a doctor if you need. I'll step in. So here we go.
Starting point is 00:38:59 I'm going to dial your mother-in-law's phone number. Her name is Linda. Is that right? Okay. I'm going to dial it right now. Good luck. We're going to let you make your awkward call. We're here for you.
Starting point is 00:39:10 I think the baby's trying. You just gave birth. This is not the toughest thing you've done. Okay? Okay, yes. You can do anything if you can do that. Here we go. I'm dialing you right now. Here for you.
Starting point is 00:39:23 Weird number. I just was calling to thank you for coming to the hospital and sending the flowers and all of the four. Of course, honey, there was so much to do. I knew you couldn't manage it. I'm happy to help. Thank you for that. And then, um, well, so are you all coming over now, though? Um, you're supposed to be here. No, I can see Josh's location on my phone. It says he's at the house. Did you forget something?
Starting point is 00:40:11 No, we are at the house now. Uh, we're going to be staying at the house. I do think it's best for me to be in my own place while I recover. Okay, wait, you're going to stay tonight at your house and then tomorrow. you'll come over here to move in. I mean, we didn't get a chance to clean it enough for a baby. And you can stay here as long as you want. No, that's not going to happen with the moving in. Honey, that's not going to work. It's not going to work for me.
Starting point is 00:40:49 You need to be here. Well, I will be at my house and you can come over. April, why are you taking my joy? No, honey. Linda, I'm not trying to take your joy at all. It's just you can come over and we can schedule time for you to drop by. Okay, that's not a problem. Sweetheart, sweetheart, listen to me.
Starting point is 00:41:13 You're being very selfish. I am not an Amazon delivery person. I am your mother-in-law. So if you're home with my son right now, you tell him, pack your bags and come over right away. Whoa. Linda, I'm sorry. But I'm not doing that. Well, all right.
Starting point is 00:41:33 That's not happening. Well, then Joshua can come over and bring the baby. And you can rest at home. You sound tired. Are you kidding me? My baby needs to be with me. She needs to be fed every few hours. We can schedule times for you to come over and feed it then.
Starting point is 00:41:52 Okay, does that sound convenient? Oh, we can stop. Please interrupt this. This sounds like a good relationship. Linda has lost her mind. I can't wait for Brooke to talk to her. What is happening? April, who is this?
Starting point is 00:42:08 Hi. Hey, Linda, what this is is a radio show called Brooke and Jeffrey in the morning. No wonder she was worried about talking to you. Hi, good morning. I am not okay with this at all. Well, yeah.
Starting point is 00:42:23 This isn't really about you right now. It's about April. Don't you say that to her. who just gave birth to your new grandchild. Yeah. And she wanted, she wanted a little bit of help. To politely. To politely let you know she needs some time.
Starting point is 00:42:39 After all I have done, you're going to deny me my grandbaby? Linda, Linda, deep breath. So upsetting to hear you because I don't think you hear yourself, Linda. Listen, I have been nothing but helpful. All I said is that I will take the baby. I will care for the baby. If you can't need to rest, then you can stay home. How is that unhelpful?
Starting point is 00:43:03 And both stay home and take care of my baby. And that is the current plan. And it is not changing. Okay. There's mama bear. Okay. You guys don't want to get too heated. Lindy, this is not how you want to start the relationship of being a grandmother.
Starting point is 00:43:20 You know what? I'm just going to speak with Joshua. That's what I'm going to do. I'll speak with my son. Skip the mom to the tears. What do you think he's going to do? Take the baby from the mother and bring him to you. It's not your baby, Linda.
Starting point is 00:43:35 Are you sure? It is much my baby as it is hers. It's her baby's baby. That's weird. It's as much yours. I'm the grandmother. I have waited my whole life. We did not think we would have a grandbaby.
Starting point is 00:43:48 And here we have one. And my daughter-in-law is keeping her from us? No. Two days. I'm not keeping her from you. I'm just not moving in with you. Do not see the difference? Listen, guys, I don't want this to be contentious between the two of you,
Starting point is 00:44:07 not in this, like, magical moment. There must be a way that we can find some middle ground. Just talk to each other and find some sort of agreement. Even though Brooke doesn't want it. She wants the mom to hoard the baby. And honestly, this should come from Linda. Linda, it's your job right now to be the, you know, the adult. Supportive.
Starting point is 00:44:26 Yes. This isn't the message you want. I will admit there's been a lot going on, and it's very stressful. I just want to see my grand baby and take care of April and Josh and the baby. That's nice. You can be like dropping a casserole at their front door, say hi to the baby real quick, and then you go back home. Or Linda gets the babies on weekends. There's no joint custody of the baby, Jeff.
Starting point is 00:44:52 We can set up some sort of like baby calendar. You get Tuesday, Wednesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. Okay. Okay, maybe I'm out of line. I don't know. Linda, I promise you, you will have so much time with your grandbaby. There you go. I promise you.
Starting point is 00:45:09 But I do need my own space and some privacy. So if you don't like having a schedule, that's fine. But you need to give us a heads up before you come over. And you can come over as much as you want. Isn't that nice, Linda? Starting four months from now. Oh, that's right. Stop at you, too.
Starting point is 00:45:26 And we'll come visit you at your place, too. We're just not going to move in. Sweetheart, I'm not thrilled with your plan. And it's a little whiny, if you ask me. I will try. We'll see how it goes. Okay? Okay.
Starting point is 00:45:45 I feel like she's in the car driving over right now. She is tracking your husband's location at all time. So she will know where that baby is. You may want to monitor their conversation. There's going to be a tracker in the baby's one-sy before we go. Brooke and Jeffrey in the morning. Gosh, I am so sick of stepping in and being the hero on this segment over and over again. I mean, Brooke wants to throw us into a Mike Tyson fight where it's us versus the mother-in-law.
Starting point is 00:46:18 We're right. She's wrong. Come on. And I'm like, can't we all come together and reach a happy medium as a family? I mean, off-air Brooks suggested getting rid of the baby at once. I know. You two are awful. You make things so much worse.
Starting point is 00:46:33 Look, I don't enjoy using my powers for good. I'll admit that. But if I have to be the reluctant Superman and save the day, then so be it. I don't know that that's how that went down. I have no comment to even add. Okay, Lex Luthor, you don't see what's happening. The good news is you don't need a bat signal to shine up in the sky to get our help. Just an email would do.
Starting point is 00:46:55 We'll respond and give you our advice to help you out of an awkward situation. A Brooke and Jeffrey like skylight would be really cool. That would be cool. Maybe just a plane with a banner behind it. Would that work for you guys? Circling the radio station. Would that be subtle enough? I would take it.
Starting point is 00:47:12 Anyway, email the show if you need some help and go find our podcast wherever you get yours at Brooke and Jeffrey. Ladies and gentlemen, you're witnessing potentially the greatest, be a run, possibly in the history of radio. Wow. And I was here for it. Because our own Brooke Fox sits at a whopping 12 wins in a row. Dang, bro. It's not very many, Jeff.
Starting point is 00:47:44 I've gotten to, like, what was my score? It's a far cry from her all-time record of 56 in a row, which she achieved back in 2019. But still, she hasn't lost for a few weeks. Yeah. And there is a chance, a hope, a dream. something telling me that this time it's special. That's right. And if you don't realize what I'm doing,
Starting point is 00:48:09 I'm trying to pull the reverse jinks, so she totally blows it today. So you know I can hear you. Let's go to her next victim, who she definitely won't blow it against today. His name is Jesse. Jesse, welcome to the show. Thank you for having me, excited to finally break the street.
Starting point is 00:48:27 Oh, wow, Jesse. He's calling a shot. Immediately talking crap. That was the calmest threat I've ever heard. Most polite. You've got to keep things fresh. Jesse, what's the rudest thing you've ever done in your life? I think I've called my brother a few bad names a few times.
Starting point is 00:48:43 Oh. Who hasn't? Nerd. Oh, we got to beep that. Hit the dump button action. Four-letter words. Did not know we had such a bad boy on the line. I'm afraid what's going to happen after we're done with the game, but you know how it works.
Starting point is 00:48:57 Yeah, we do, Brooke. You got 30 seconds to answer as many questions as possible. You don't know when you could say pass, but you have to beat her out right if you want to win. Are you ready? I am ready. Good luck, my man. Your time starts now. Andy Sandberg celebrates a birthday today.
Starting point is 00:49:10 He starred for seven years on what NBC variety show? In which year of the 2000s was the first Amazon Kindle solds, 2004, seven, or nine? 2007. When referring to police, what does the W in SWAT stand for? Oh, pass. How many states do the Rocky Mountains go through? Six, eight, or ten? Six.
Starting point is 00:49:35 On movie sets, what's the name of the long pole with a microphone attached? Oh, gosh. A microphone attached. Okay, we'll take that. I thought he was going to say another bad word, but... Way to control yourself, Jesse. I respect that. Now, as we get Brooke back into the studio,
Starting point is 00:49:54 it is time to entertain the masses with the most requested thing we have on this show. Yes, yes. A game within a game. So, Jesse, you and I are going to play radio tick-tac-toe right now, and I'm starting. I'm going to go upper-right X. Okay. Your turn.
Starting point is 00:50:12 Bottom, bottom-left corner. Okay, I'm going to do both right-middle and right-bottom X. Whoa. Now what? You know it's radio-tick-tac-toe, Jesse. There's no limit on how many moves you can do, and you can take up the entire rest of the board with O's. Do the whole left side, Jesse, do it.
Starting point is 00:50:28 Take the whole left hole center. I'm sorry you didn't get it in before the buzzer sounded. So close. What a fair game, too. It sure is. It's going to take your aggression out on your brother again. Sorry about that. Now, we do need to get back to the other game, the trivia one we were playing.
Starting point is 00:50:51 Brooke, it's your turn. Are you ready? Man, after that, Barn Burner, I am. Yeah. Good luck. Your time starts now. Andy Samberg celebrates a birthday today. he starred for seven years on what NBC variety show?
Starting point is 00:51:04 Saturday Night Live. In which year of the 2000s was the first Amazon Kindle sold? 2004, 7 or 9? 7. When referring to police, what does the W in SWAT stand for? Pass. How many states do the Rocky Mountains go through? 6, 8, or 10?
Starting point is 00:51:24 6. On movie sets, what's the name of the long pole with a microphone attached? The boom mic. All righty, that's it. Answers are in. It's time to go to the scoreboard to see how you bolted with our own Jose. I didn't shoplift the pooty. Malagios.
Starting point is 00:51:44 Jesse, you got three correct today. I'm okay, fair, fair. It's a solid score. That's good. The Rockies will be a little more rocky than this, Jose. That's John Denver. You got four. Hey, not too.
Starting point is 00:51:59 Jesse, not today. Oh, man. Just another reason to come back and kick your butt soon enough. Yeah, you tell her, Jesse. He's getting spicy. Yeah, he is, and I like it. Brooks Windstreet continues. She pushes it to 13 in a row, so let's go over the answers.
Starting point is 00:52:15 Andy Sandberg celebrates a birthday today. He starred for seven years on Saturday Night Live. The first Amazon Kindle was sold in 2007. We both got that one, right? When referring to police, the W and SWAT stands for weapons. special weapons and tactics. That makes sense. There are six states that the Rocky Mountains go through,
Starting point is 00:52:37 Colorado, Wyoming, Montana, Idaho, New Mexico, and Utah, and on movie sets, the long pole with a microphone attached is called a boom stick. Or a boom mic. We accepted boom mic. So, Jesse, I'm sorry it was not enough to win, but just for playing, we are giving you a pair of tickets to see Adam Ray perform at the Washington State Fair on September 23rd. Oh, awesome.
Starting point is 00:52:58 Thank you all. Appreciate it. Absolutely. Jesse, do you want to say anything controversial before we go? You know, Brooke, you I think, are the biggest stinker in the whole world. It's because Brooke doesn't shower. I think that's what it's. It works on so many levels.
Starting point is 00:53:17 Well done, Jesse. Come back and play again soon. We're going to do Win Brooks Buck same time tomorrow. Brooke and Jeffrey in the morning.
