You know, we can always try to make that happen. That's true. What do you see in the comments, Alexis? Yeah, Caitlin Burge said, I'm so excited. I get to have
Starting point is 00:03:06 my baby on a weekday, so I can listen to y'all's podcast while I'm in labor. That's amazing. Oh, my gosh. That's sweet. You know what? I made a labor playlist, and guess what? It never got played. Oh, wow. Why? What did Michael do? Chaos. It's all chaos.
Starting point is 00:03:23 It's all chaos. It's happening. It's like, okay, we're doing this. Oh, man. It's more pain and agony. Yeah, not a real okay we're doing this, but yeah, yeah. Sorry, I'm thinking about the guy's perspective. Good luck with your birth. Yes. Didn't mean to freak you out. No, it's going to go great.
Starting point is 00:03:37 I hope it's quick, easy, and you come out with a beautiful, healthy baby. Yeah. There it is. While listening to our show. Yeah. All right. This episode is birth free. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:03:47 And it starts right now. Do you think it's actually possible for people to change? I don't know. Yeah. I don't want to. I mean, look at Darth Vader. He went from galactic mass murderer to redeemed father of the year
Starting point is 00:04:03 I didn't see that What movie are you talking about? He got the award at the end of the movie That's not an award Okay, you don't like that? What about Taylor Swift? She went from writing breakup country songs About her exes
Starting point is 00:04:17 To writing breakup pop songs about her exes You're gonna trigger some people, Jeff. She did it, she changed And now she's married She's married Engaged to be married. Yeah, that's true. We don't know if it's going to go.
Starting point is 00:04:30 People can turn their lives around. I feel like you gave two examples of people who are the same. Yeah, didn't really do one 80s at all. Well, today our listeners are hoping that their exes have changed into new, upstanding people that they actually wanted to. Oh, no. So let's find out if it's true when we reconnect them and let the sparks fly. Well, you really set us up for hope. It's during a brand new say yes to the ex right after this.
Starting point is 00:04:55 It's Brooke and Jeffrey in the morning. It's time for another eye-watering, pants-tightening edition of Say Yes to the X. Oh. My pants are already getting tighter, yeah. I don't understand that because that doesn't happen for me. I thought you meant we were going to eat a lot of stuff. Oh, yeah. No, no, no, no.
Starting point is 00:05:12 You're going to be disappointed now. I was like, what? Is this a food into the addition? Feel free to shove whatever you want into your mouth during this segment, right? We won't judge you. But this, if you've never heard it, it's where we help our listeners reach out to an old flame to see if maybe they want to try pouring some gas on those dying embers and spark it back up one more time and we've actually had multiple requests come through lately for this particular segment so today we're going to do it a little
Starting point is 00:05:38 different and try to reconnect not one but two former couples at the same time what is this like a group thing yeah yeah i mean people could do group things yeah of course but i thought you would fight me more on it we're just going to do one at a time oh i was like how is it going to work I was just going to try to pay attention and follow along. I appreciate you guys are open for chaos, but we've got a guy named Bobby on the phone looking to rekindle one of his previous emotional dumpster fires. So, hey, man, welcome to the show.
Starting point is 00:06:07 Hey, I appreciate it. Even with that intro you do. Interesting. You're putting yourself out there. So tell us who's your ex and why you wanted to do this segment with us. Yeah, so my ex, his name is Ashley. Ashley. And we were together for a year and a half. Okay.
Starting point is 00:06:26 We were everything but married. We had everything but the paperwork and the matching towels. You had babies together? We didn't have babies together, not yet. Oh, okay, so not everything except marriage. Now I don't know if I could trust you. Did you have a pet together? We did have a pet together. We do have a pet together. Oh. Okay. So you guys are still connected in a lot of ways? I mean, yeah, it just happened Monday.
Starting point is 00:06:49 Wait, the breakup? What? Oh. Oh my gosh. Yeah. Wait, what happened Monday? Walk us through, what happened Monday? Okay, well, it wasn't just, I guess, we fight like every couple. Nothing, like, toxic or anything like that. Okay, just like normal arguments.
Starting point is 00:07:04 Yeah, we get passionate, and I know this is, I know we're on the radio and everything, but we had good makeup fun after our fight games. Oh, yeah, a little monopoly game afterwards, something to, like, yeah. I got that one. Wow. Oh, I get what you're saying, human jenga. You could call it that. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:07:21 Yes, not. Okay. Tower's coming down. All right. But let's just focus more on your and Ashley's relationship. What was the argument about? Yeah, I mean, that's what I want to know, too. I don't really remember necessarily what exactly was about.
Starting point is 00:07:35 It was something small, I'm sure. Was it about you not being a good listener? I couldn't have anything to do with it, Alexis. The irony. I've never heard her say that before. Okay, wait. So are you out of the apartment right now that you guys were sharing? Yeah, I'm staying in a buddy's house
Starting point is 00:07:52 And she completely blocked me Like my phone goes straight to voicemail when I found call her You can't even talk to her, that's interesting Well, she can't block us yet So I feel like we have enough information About your relationship And it sounds like you really love Ashley Which is good
Starting point is 00:08:07 One of a kind It was a really great connection And I don't think I don't want to give up one of it yet Okay, and because we're doing two of these today We're going to speed it up a little bit And just bring Ashley on the phone right now I love it, right.
Starting point is 00:08:20 Because Bobby, here's a deal. Our producer was able to get a hold of Ashley. She's been waiting on hold. She has no idea why we contacted her and can't hear what we're saying right now. But we're just going to bring her on. We'll talk to her a little bit and then find out if she's up for saying yes to the X. I feel like this is going to be fiery if she's blocked you and this only happened on Monday. Or big misunderstanding and we all laugh and smile and hug at the end of this.
Starting point is 00:08:44 That's usually how these go. Yep. She's like, oh, that's why he hasn't talked to me in three. Oh, it's the, I blocked him. It was an accidental block. Okay, here you go. Four buttons in a row. Let's just, let's punch her up.
Starting point is 00:08:57 Ashley, you there? Hello? Oh, man. Hey, Ashley. Thanks for being on the show with us today. I'm Brooke and Jeffrey in the morning. On the show. Yeah, remember our producer called you?
Starting point is 00:09:10 Yeah. So now we're live on the radio. I'm just confused. Oh, our producer didn't tell you all the details of what we're doing here. That guy. Oh, God. Okay. So, here is the situation. We're calling you about a guy you went out with kind of recently. Dated, Jeff. Not with out with. I don't want to label it. Are you kidding? Are you joking? I don't know if you know who I'm talking about. Of course I know who you're talking about. Oh, you do. Just tell her Bobby. Okay. Well,
Starting point is 00:09:46 she blew it. Yep, it's Bobby. Oh my God Yeah Are you kidding Well first we want to say sorry about the breakup That sucks you guys broke up Is that true? Depending what
Starting point is 00:09:58 Thank you Or congrats Or is it a misunderstanding It was a real breakup No misunderstanding Oh my gosh Oh Definitely not
Starting point is 00:10:08 I don't even know why I'm on air Like this is ridiculous Okay Well the thing about this segment we're doing called say yes to the X is that we talk to Bobby and he said these things about you he said number one
Starting point is 00:10:23 best relationship he's ever been in in his entire life. Yes. Yeah that's a really sweet thing to say. And the second thing is he said your makeups together after a big fight, nothing like it on earth. Oh my gosh. She actually said that.
Starting point is 00:10:39 Well you mentioned it as a compliment to you. Compliment. Okay. So we just want to know why. What was the reason that you two broke up if you had to like put it in a short little paragraph.
Starting point is 00:10:53 I feel like I'm on like a this doesn't feel real. Like is there like a camera? Okay. And maybe it was a bad idea of us to try and do two of these. We probably should have just done one. But we're really crunched on time here
Starting point is 00:11:06 so you could just tell us. What do we get? She's going to say it and then we're going to have to say will you go back out with him right after Jeff? Or we call him back next week. All this is really running in on her time to explain what happens.
Starting point is 00:11:17 So please. All right. So if you want the lowdown, he got a new girlfriend, just so you know. He's a big liar. He's with someone new. It's a girlfriend. Yeah, less than a week. And he wants the Netflix account I pay for the Netflix. So that's the only reason he's calling me. Does that mean he was cheating? Did you find him cheating? Probably. Probably. So you think all he wants is the Netflix password and that's what he's using our segment for right now. Literally, literally, yes.
Starting point is 00:11:47 Hey, Netflix is, like, really expensive. Yeah. Again, Jose, we are late on time. So I don't know if this is helping our cause. Can we just talk to Bobby and see if that's actually what he wanted? Yeah, so let's just at this point tell you, Ashley, that Bobby has been listening to this call. Here we go. Moving forward, Jeff. And he is ready to jump in and prove how much he misses you.
Starting point is 00:12:06 The rate we're doing this is getting a short time for it. Yes, please. Very quickly win you back. Bobby, go for it. I mean, look, I'm not going to sit here and deny any of that. But, I mean, on top of it, on top of it, though, we had a real connection, and I don't think that we need to give up on it so quickly. You have a girlfriend again already.
Starting point is 00:12:25 What the hell, Bobby? Ashley was just way less complicated. You know, dating this new chick for, like, 72 hours, and it's just already a lot. Ashley, you probably feel really bad about that. Bobby, can I tell you something? Oh, she's going to say yes. You made your bed, go sleep on it. Oh, is that an interesting?
Starting point is 00:12:45 invitation. I'm not making my own bed. I'm sleeping on my buddy's bed. You already know this. Or you're just trying to make me feel worse. Oh, no. He doesn't understand. We're out of time, is the bottom line. So the whole point of this segment is we need to ask, Ashley, would you say yes to your ex-bye? What do you think?
Starting point is 00:13:01 What do you think? He's had 72 hours of total regret. Definitely no. Can you at least text me the password? No, Bobby. You're off the account. He's got to get his Netflix and chill on with you girl.
Starting point is 00:13:17 Okay. Well, you know what? It didn't work this time, but we'll try this again with a brand new couple, an even faster edition of Say Yes to the X. Oh, my God. I have so much anxiety from all of this. Pop a pill. We're going to do more after this.
Starting point is 00:13:32 We're in the middle of a high-speed bullet train edition of Say Yes to the X. It feels like I just got hit in the face. Just like we wanted. I mean, normally in this, we were trying to connect one couple over the course of a two-part segment but not today we're doing a twofer at rapid speed which I'm actually glad we're just moving on since the first guy
Starting point is 00:13:53 just wanted the Netflix password first one did not go well and honestly I'm already a little bit worried about this second one because the person who wrote us wanting to get back with their ex is not on the phone what what well then why are we here it was a woman named Tasha she wrote in
Starting point is 00:14:13 saying she really really could use our help, but she's too shy to come on the show herself. Okay. So we're just going to talk for her even though we don't know what she needs help with? Well, I agree, Brooke, unconventional, yes. But how many times on this show
Starting point is 00:14:29 have we made lemons out of lemonade? A lot, dude. A lot. It's usually the opposite. We turned... I said what I said. Let's make some lemons today, gang. Because this is what Tasha said in her email. She wrote, I used to date a guy named Brian a few years ago. I was all
Starting point is 00:14:45 in on him, but he only wanted a situation ship. Oh, Brian, indecisive Brian. I went along with it for a while, but I always wanted more, so had to break it off. I'm hoping that he's matured by now and can actually see us getting back together and will want to try something for real this time. What? You don't have any faith that Brian matured, Alexis? I'm just saying.
Starting point is 00:15:09 He didn't reach back out to her. She wants to reach out again without him following up. Let's give the guy a little bit of credit. I mean, I don't know them, but I believe. There's guys out there that can grow. I don't know them, but. Exactly. It's possible.
Starting point is 00:15:21 It's usually already in another relationship. Yeah. So we reached out to Tasha to do the segment, and she does want us to still get in touch with Brian, but did not want to be on the show herself. Okay. So we're just going to call Brian for her? Well, we already have Brian on hold right now. Interesting. Again, he doesn't know why he's here, and we don't have a lot of time.
Starting point is 00:15:39 So let's just get to him and tell him the situation. So don't use that word. We already got that. Oh, sorry. Don't trigger him back into a situation. That was the problem. We'll give him the deal. So here we go.
Starting point is 00:15:52 Brian, you on the phone? Yeah, hi, guys. Hey, man. Hi, Brian, welcome to the show. Yeah, you're on with Brooke and Jeffrey in the morning. Thanks for being with us. Yeah, I guess. Thanks for having.
Starting point is 00:16:04 I guess. Very brave. So, apparently, you used to date a woman a few years ago named Tasha. Okay. Yeah, how do you know that? Yeah, good question. Well, because Tasha wrote into our show. And she's been thinking about you.
Starting point is 00:16:20 She sure has. Okay. All right, that sounds like a positive. Reaction. Better than the first half. For sure. Now, the thing is, Tasha wanted to participate in this segment we're doing. It's called say yes to the X.
Starting point is 00:16:36 Say yes to how. Like, say what? Well, we hope that you say yes at the end. You're her ex, right? You can just say yes now. We'll clip it and we'll just move on. That would make it really easy for us. But basically, Tasha's been out there in the world.
Starting point is 00:16:50 She's met other people, but still thinks of you as her number one. And she's wondering if maybe things have changed over the past few years where you'd want to try things again with her. And actually try a relationship this time instead of just a situation. Right. For real, real. I mean, she wants to hang out. We can hang out. I'm okay without a piece.
Starting point is 00:17:13 Well, yes, she wants to hang out, but more than that. No. Like a lot. I mean, he said hang out. I think he meant more than that, too. Yeah. She's looking for a relationship. Yeah, I mean, to hang out?
Starting point is 00:17:22 Like, what are we talking about? Like, we, yeah. I don't know. No. Like, see a movie or something? Like, go on a day. Yeah, yeah. A date.
Starting point is 00:17:30 A date. Yeah, that's where you'd start. Yeah. And then she's wondering if you'd be interested in a serious relationship this time instead of just keeping it casual. Well, like, like wearing a cummer bun? Like, what did that mean? Not keeping it casual?
Starting point is 00:17:43 Like, what does that mean? Have you ever been in a relationship where you just dated one other person? Boyfriend, girlfriend. Yeah, that's the titles. And no other girls in the picture. Yeah, I mean, I've had situations where you're just boring for a little bit. That's fine. Boring for a little bit?
Starting point is 00:17:59 Is that how you described it? I mean, it doesn't mean that you don't have other options. It means that you choose to not have other options. Maybe I'm not understanding exactly what she's talking about, but if she wants to mess around, I'm down. I'm okay I'm okay with that I will say yes to hang around That's very obvious Okay
Starting point is 00:18:18 What we're asking Is not just messing around We're talking real dates Real effort Flowers Anniversaries Official on social media Changing the status on your relationship
Starting point is 00:18:31 I think Jeff has to go this deep In order for you and her Together for a long long time Just the two of you Like how long of the time What are you talking about like over the weekend? I don't know. Over the weekend, he says.
Starting point is 00:18:44 This isn't what Tasha wants. You want to go wait for like a three-day cruise? What are we talking about here? Yes. Hey, we should give her that offer. That's kind of romantic. Okay. We're not paying for a cruise.
Starting point is 00:18:56 No. And we don't do that. So look, we're officially out of time now. So this is weird because she's not even on the phone with us. Why don't we do that? Just say that. Tell her he said yes. No, don't say that.
Starting point is 00:19:09 Plan a date for them. Hang out. Yeah, that's going to crush her. We need to find out, for real. Brian, if you're willing to say yes to your ex Tasha for an official relationship. You would have a girlfriend again.
Starting point is 00:19:23 Yes, I am more than happy to hook up with Natasha again. Hey, dude, this is what we're going to do. We're just going to write Tasha back and tell her we couldn't get a hold of you. That's what we're going to do. That's what we're going to say.
Starting point is 00:19:35 This was obviously a bad idea. Not just this segment, but it's clear that you're not ready, Brian, for anything one-on-one. I'm happy we had less time on this one. Yeah. So, I don't know. This was a shot in the dark, and it did exactly what we thought it would do, just go absolutely nowhere.
Starting point is 00:19:51 But Brian, hey, man. I'm willing to hook up in a dark, too. We got it. We got it, we got it. 40 little Brian. Thanks for your time, man. You keep doing you. So, yeah, that was say yes to the X double edition, total fail.
Starting point is 00:20:06 Oh, wow. So, yeah. So I have an ex-called Tiffany. Can you tell her that I'm down for that, too? I'm be down for that. I thought we hung up on him. No, we don't go to hold him. Brian, we don't need you.
Starting point is 00:20:17 It's Brook and Jeffrey in the morning. We often think we know our type in dating. Tall, funny, a certain job. But the research shows we're usually not the best predictors of who will actually make us the happiest. As we often say on the happiness lab, our minds lie to us about all kinds of stuff. And that definitely includes the kinds of things
Starting point is 00:20:37 we need to be happy in a relationship. That's why it helps to stay curious. On Bumble, features like shared interests and prompts make it easy to notice right on someone's profile initial sparks of compatibility, like a shared love of cooking or the same nostalgic TV shows. Shared interests and prompts let you showcase your personality right on your profile and connect with people who get your vibe.
Starting point is 00:21:00 And with photo and ID verification, you can feel confident the person you're talking to is real, so you can date with a bit more confidence. When you treat dating as exploration, instead of sticking to a rigid type, you open yourself up to happier, more meaningful connections. So maybe your type isn't tall, dark, and mysterious. Maybe it's loves podcast as much as you do. Stay open, stay curious, and let yourself be surprised. Download Bumble today.

Who still wore knee pads? Yes.

Angela and Jenna, I am so psyched. You're here. What was that like for you to soft launch into the show? Sorry, Jenna. I'll be asking the questions today.
Starting point is 00:22:09 I forgot whose podcast we were doing. Nick Kroll, I hope this story is good enough to get you to toss that sandwich. So let's see how it goes. Starting point is 00:22:38 Oh, okay. Well, I mean, if well, you mean that she found out that her ex is the same person that he was when they broke up. There you go. He may have actually declined more. Yeah. Yeah. Sometimes, yeah, you just got to find out the hard way that they're not the person you want them to be. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:22:54 I feel like before we get people on the phone, we should make sure they're sober. Yeah. Do you know what I mean? Yeah, not in a relationship already or anything. That's a good point. We should set some ground rules. If you want to do this segment with us, you need to be. One, willing to be on the show with us.
Starting point is 00:23:09 Okay, that's a good rule. I like that one. Not already be dating somebody else. Yes. Able to understand what a relationship is. Yeah. She couldn't even define it. Gosh, after all these rules, is anybody even going to want to do this anymore?
Starting point is 00:23:21 No. I don't know. I mean, speed dating clearly works, but speed get back togethering, not as easy. Nah. So, more meticulous. This is what you want to go back to. Is dating that bad? Must be.
