Starting point is 00:00:37 Out of the thousands of phone calls that we've done over the years, I've never heard of a couple meeting the way that Jacob met his date. Oh, really? I love this. A good meet story. And the cool thing is they both made money off their own date. Okay. Made money.
Starting point is 00:00:53 So double winning here. Let's find out more. Jacob, welcome to the show. Hey, how's it going? Can you hear me? Oh, yeah. You sound richer from whatever you did to meet your date. Money bags.
Starting point is 00:01:05 We'll find out where the date started in just a second. But first, tell us about the girl. What's her name? Brenly. Brenly. That's a unique name. The first time you met Brenly, like the first moment you laid eyes on her, did you know you were, like, into her?
Starting point is 00:01:19 Not immediately. That's kind of heavy, Brooke. Yeah, that's like a lot of pressure. So when's the wedding? You can just take someone's hot head. That's kind of heavy, Brooke. Yeah, that's a lot of pressure. So when's the wedding? You can just take someone's heart. That's what I mean. How many babies do you want to have? It's like more than that.
Starting point is 00:01:31 It's like chemistry, you know? Like, do you instantly know? Nobody instantly knows. You're making me sick. No one instantly knows. When I met my husband, I instantly knew that I wanted to do him. Yes, absolutely.
Starting point is 00:01:41 He was in a relationship at the time, so it's offensive. I did not know that. Okay. Let's focus on me. All right. Yes, absolutely. He was in a relationship at the time. I thought I did. It's offensive. I did not know that. Okay. Let's focus on. All right. Yeah. Jacob, were there butterflies going off?
Starting point is 00:01:50 Did rainbows shoot across the sky? What happened? Why are you guys such haters of love? I saw the picket fence and the minivan. Oh, my God. Oh, fuck. He said he'd be. No, no, no, no, no, no.
Starting point is 00:01:59 Look, he was really pretty, but I didn't know yet. Okay. Okay. I appreciate that honest answer. Where were you guys? How did you meet? So this is the weird part. We met at one of those health research studies.
Starting point is 00:02:13 What is that? You know, where you kind of go in for a few days, and they do, like, medical testing. I had a buddy do, like, a sleep study once. Is it like that? And he had to spend the night. Is it kind of like that? No, no.
Starting point is 00:02:24 It was, like, six hours a day. We still were able to go home oh okay but it was what did you okay so are you one of the test subjects yeah look i was laid off at the time and my friend was like hey you can make a few hundred bucks for a few days i was like dude i'm in hold on are they like giving you medicine and see if you have an allergic reaction like what, what do you do? I don't even know what it is. It was called a BPS study. What's that? What does it stand for? I don't know. I Googled, like...
Starting point is 00:02:50 Oh, glad you did your research. Didn't need to. Well, it was supposed to be about anonymity, right? And they didn't want us to know anything or it could ruin the study. So all we were doing was more, like, athletic things. Okay. So it was like, go to this side of the room,
Starting point is 00:03:03 walk here, walk to the other end and they do it and then we do it and then we maybe run a little bit weird interesting did you feel like a lab rat um i felt like a hamster okay yeah he's like they did make us run on wheels yeah but i mean it's pretty crazy so you're in this group and she's there too yeah yeah so we we we're in a room a waiting room at the beginning and she was sitting across from me and we chatted a little bit and she's like it was kind of similar situations like oh i got laid off too oh so you bonded yeah it was kind of boring but i got to know her better later because we we got split up in like groups of eight and she happened to be in
Starting point is 00:03:39 my group oh okay okay that's fate bro i just I just have to ask, like, is the test study, is that considered your date? I don't know. That was not the first, I guess, date. That was just us being forced to be together. Okay. He's like, this is a romantic study. It's a kissing study. At what point in this, like, medical exercise do you make your move to ask her out?
Starting point is 00:04:02 Well, right before it ended i was saying hey maybe we can grab a cup of coffee after we get out and she was like cool so we went to a coffee shop nearby and we're able to chit chat a little bit got to know her better than you know lab rat talk so i know i just keep picturing you guys in like an all-white room and white jumpsuits you know i'm imagining squid game right now yeah it's like some two-way mirror and everybody's watching. And the voice comes on. It's like, climb the rope. Or else.
Starting point is 00:04:30 So there was, the weirdest part was when we were forced to lay down face first on a bean bag. What? Yeah. What is that study? I just heard, like you said, I heard the voice. Now there's a bean bag. Lay down flat.
Starting point is 00:04:46 Maybe this is like some sort of intelligence study. Bro, hold on. Let me ask you. Where did you find this? That's what I'm saying. Because like, is this an internet ad or is this like a hospital doing this? You saw a number in a bathroom with some like rest stop? It's soft.
Starting point is 00:04:59 Ignore the flashing. Ignore the man walking into the room with a cold hand. Oh, God. Yo, that sounds more fun now i was wondering where the love connection was happening and now it's coming in okay i know we're concentrating a lot about this experience for you it's interesting it is but i want to know about coffee how is that no coffee was good coffee was good. I mean, it was definitely normal now. We were dressed like normal humans. And, you know, when you bond over something traumatic, it's easier to bond.
Starting point is 00:05:33 Yeah. He has almost died in this. You know, we both were talking about, like, we wanted to go to college, but didn't go. We both were, like, into Mexican food, specifically. Yeah, yeah. We loved burritos. Yeah, baby. We liked jazz music. So, wait. She loved burritos. Yeah, baby. She liked jazz music.
Starting point is 00:05:45 So wait, Brindley's not calling you back? Like, I can't believe you experienced this all with her. You go to coffee, even if she only wanted to be friends. Like, it seems like you guys are so connected at this point. You really bonded. Well, that's what I'm thinking, because I did vibe enough, and I was like, you know, let me be a little bit more straightforward.
Starting point is 00:06:01 And it's like, I'd like to see you again for a second date. And she was like, well, you can text me, because I'm a little bit more straightforward. And I was like, I'd like to see you again for a second date. And she was like, well, you can text me because I'm a little busy right now. And so I did, which was cool. I didn't hear anything for a few days, but I was like, let me not keep jumping the gun and text all the time. But it's been like five days and I text maybe two more times and I still haven't heard anything. That's weird.
Starting point is 00:06:21 You're not that busy. Are you worried that she's like laying down face first and someone else is being bagged let's call brinley we're gonna play a song first we'll come back we'll give her a call and we'll try and get your second date update all right man all right sounds good to me all right hold on how is hallmark not doing this love story right now two people disturbing down on their luck volunteer for a clinical study together to make some quick cash. And the scientist's goal was to find out
Starting point is 00:06:50 if they have BPS. Whatever that is. For all we know, it's a made-up acronym. They never explained it to them. And why was a beanbag involved? I need answers. That's what they found at the end. That the two of them were both great at laying face down in beanbags.
Starting point is 00:07:06 So they have that going for them. But what about love? Is that a factor here? That's our job to be the researchers. That's right. We're going to figure this out. I'm glad that they left that to the real scientists. Okay.
Starting point is 00:07:19 That's supposed to be us? Jacob, how's your face? I'm great. How's your heart? Oh, buddy. Oh, Lord. Jeff's taking this very seriously. He's actually about to put on Latex Club.
Starting point is 00:07:33 I'm invested in this. He brings them with him everywhere. I actually am surprised she's, like, ghosting you. So am I. I think we can get this one back on track. I hope so. I mean, we've definitely started in worse places when we're calling people before like there actually seems like there might be something here so i'm gonna dial her number right now you feel ready i'm ready all right let's do this man
Starting point is 00:07:52 hello hey is this brenly uh this is this Brenly? This is Brenly, not Brenly. Yeah, I was going to say something, Jeff. We were saying it. Sorry. Brenly. Brenly. Brenly. Brenly.
Starting point is 00:08:14 Brenly. Are we still doing this? Brenly. Brenly. I'm sorry. Who are you? Oh, yeah. So we're a radio show called Brooke and Jeffrey in the Morning.
Starting point is 00:08:24 Jeffrey. Jeffrey. I'm Jeff. And we're doing something called a second date update. I don't know why I want to call him that. I'm sorry. Why are you calling me? Because we're doing this second date update thing.
Starting point is 00:08:37 That's where we help our listeners reach out to someone that they met out in the world that they had a connection with. It's kind of like a love study. Recently, we heard that you were involved in a little bit of a study with a guy named Jacob. Okay. Jacob. Jacob. Yeah, Jacob.
Starting point is 00:08:54 That was a joke. All right. Yeah, I know him. Okay. Super funny. Yeah. I mean, he seemed to think that you guys made a real connection, like one during the study, but then afterwards, it sounds like you guys went to coffee.
Starting point is 00:09:07 I probably shouldn't talk about this. I'm going to get in trouble. You're in trouble? It's like a case study thing? We don't need to know about like the medical stuff. Yeah, we're just calling because Jacob said he had a great time with you and he hasn't been able to reach you since you guys hung out. And he doesn't really know why. Yeah, I just, I don't really think i should be talking to you about this are you why are you single i'm not involved with anybody okay okay we're not trying to delve too deep into your personal life we're just trying to help jacob
Starting point is 00:09:37 understand what's going on between you two i mean from his perspective you guys spent a lot of time together and then he thought that you had a lot of shared interests. Like when you actually got to go to coffee and talk about your lives, like it seemed like you, to him, made a real connection. Yeah, but everybody had to sign the waiver. Well, he also told us about the strong connection you felt while lying face down in beanbags. He told you that? Yeah. He definitely wasn't supposed to talk about the beanbags
Starting point is 00:10:07 or anything like that. Oh. Sorry, we don't mean to break beanbag code on the show. I mean, honestly, we don't know who did the study. We don't know where you were signed up. No offense, we don't care. Yeah. We care more about you two.
Starting point is 00:10:18 I mean, it's true. Like, we don't know what it was for. Like, we're just talking about, like, plainclothes non-medical dates. Yeah. We're just focused on Jacob. Can you tell us what you thought of Jacob? Okay, well, um,
Starting point is 00:10:29 I was attracted to him. Okay. He's cute, kind, he's a good person, but... That's great. Did you say cute behind? No, cute... That works too.
Starting point is 00:10:39 Kind. Oh, kind. Okay. I don't know, did he have a cute butt? Maybe a cute butt, yeah. I'm sure, too. She couldn't see her face was in the beanbag. That's a very nice behind.
Starting point is 00:10:50 Did he have a beanbag booty? So, wait. Why aren't you calling him back, then? He really likes you, too. It sounds perfect. Well, to be honest with you, even though I was part of the study, I'm really a researcher. I was researching him the whole time, and they weren't supposed to know that. Oh.
Starting point is 00:11:11 Oh, my gosh. Wait a minute. So you worked for the study. Why did you have to lay down in a beanbag? This has been driving me crazy. Wow. I can't really talk about that. It's to look at their butts. I knew it.
Starting point is 00:11:27 What? Oh, he admits it. You said yourself, though, that you thought that Jacob was attractive. Well, that's the thing. Like, I'm attracted to him, but I feel like it's unethical to go out with him. But you already went out to him to coffee. Why did you agree to that? Well, the study was a two-day study and he
Starting point is 00:11:45 asked me out halfway through and i felt like i had to follow through with it but i'm even that was crossing the line i mean that makes sense though if you say no then you probably won't be able to but it's such a good love story you know like the researcher with the lab rad that she's not supposed to date like scares me i don't know I don't want to be the rat in that situation. What kind of love story? I think it did get a little bit juicier. See? Before you go back to the lab, Brenly,
Starting point is 00:12:11 we do need to let you know that Jacob has been listening on the other line this entire time. Oh, the rat's here. And he wants to talk to you. Hi. Jacob? Hey. Hello.
Starting point is 00:12:21 Not a rat. A hamster. Yeah, that's right. That's right. You felt like a hamster. I forgot. Sorry, buddy. A hamster. Yeah, that's right. That's right. You felt like a hamster. I forgot. Sorry, buddy. Now I'm a little confused.
Starting point is 00:12:28 Did anything that you said, was any of it true or was it all made up? Well, the quote unquote facts were made up about me, but I do enjoy your company and I do like you and I like hanging out with you, but... You don't like Mexican food? No, I like Mexican food, but like, you know, the whole part about not going to college and stuff. Well, I mean, obviously you had some education since you're a researcher. Yeah, I mean, I'm not a huge fan of jazz, but I do like you and I would like to get to know you. But at this point, I just don't you feel like it's completely unethical
Starting point is 00:13:06 like well isn't the study over his part is over but my part is not I still have work to do and research to do how long does it go on for I mean are we talking this thing will wrap up in a couple months or are we you know
Starting point is 00:13:21 well these things take years I mean is BPS really that big of a problem? I've literally never even heard of it before. Jake, you shouldn't even be saying that on the radio. I understand that you think it's not ethical, but love isn't always ethical. Yay! Okay?
Starting point is 00:13:38 Sometimes you just have to follow your heart and ignore the ethics. Love should be ethical, Joe. No. I would go, it's always ethical. Yeah. Especially when you travel to Thailand. What?
Starting point is 00:13:49 Okay, that's not good. There is no ethics. It's all love over there. I don't get it. And in that spirit, I would like to offer... We're not involved in any of that. Okay, well... What is going on?
Starting point is 00:14:02 I think that we're trying to get Brinley to go out with you again. Yeah. I mean, look, I say this. Like, weird things start from the strangest places, and you just don't always have answers. Sometimes you just go with the flow, right? And so I say, I thought we had a connection, too. I still think you're extremely gorgeous, and you had a nice personality.
Starting point is 00:14:20 And if that's true, hey, what the heck, right? I mean, but that's up to you at the end of the day dude you're making this hard i can't see us on the radio but i do want to ask you like just to save me an email to send out is there anything weird going on with your urine at all i thought you were gonna ask him to sign some, like, waiver. Like, okay, the relationship or something. Wait, wait, wait. I'm not allowed to answer over the air. Okay.
Starting point is 00:14:49 There you go. See, you can ask him about his urine on your first date and we'll pay for it. Well, I don't know. It's really kind of if I get a new job or more. Just say yes. You know, it's just like one of those sayings, like, do it. Ask for forgiveness later. Yeah, one of the other scientists will figure out BPS.
Starting point is 00:15:04 Oh, gosh. Here's what I can agree to right now. Okay. like do it ask for forgiveness later one of the other scientists will figure out bps gosh here's what i can agree to right now okay you can text me and we can discuss things off air oh that's a yes it's like a bp yes yes i feel like she was a little coy when she said that it's at least a bp maybe so that's good enough for me i I think we're going to try and send you guys out on another date. I'm not agreeing to that. I'm just saying we can talk about things. That's cute. Are you excited, Jacob?
Starting point is 00:15:33 I know what that means. I can only not agree or agree. So I can't say it on the air either. I don't know if you fully understood the study. I think that's only to her. Brooke and Jeffrey in the study. I think that's only the her. Brooke and Jeffrey in the morning. Jon Stewart is back at The Daily Show and he's bringing his signature wit and
