Second Date Update.
Sometimes you talk about a beautiful woman on a first date
and how she's burning with desire.
Who says that?
Nobody says that.
We say that.
Is this a book?
But what if she's burning literally
because she ate her food too quickly when it was hot
and it seared her mouth?
It's better than a candle on the table that she leaned over and her hair went up in flames.
Spicy.
So I guess that's what happened to one of our listeners, Julie, who sustained a little oral injury on her first date.
Haven't we all?
Julie, two questions.
One, are you out of the hospital yet?
And two, did you meet any hot doctors?
You could throw Alexis' way.
Thank you.
I mean, I didn't actually go to the doctor.
I was just kidding.
It wasn't great.
Okay.
Sorry, Alexis.
Why don't you start at the beginning?
Tell us about the guy that you met.
What's his name?
Okay, well, I met this really nice guy named Dennis.
We met on Bumble.
We talked, I'd say say probably three, four weeks.
That's a long time to talk to somebody
before you met in person. Why?
I mean, you know, just being cautious
and taking our time and we really were
enjoying just the conversation
but we both worked full time
and it was just kind of hard
to find a time that worked for both of us.
Alright. Okay.
But I don't know, we seem to be on the same page with
me on so many things and like we just oh we have so much in common oh good i mean like if you're
talking that much before you meet someone in person there's probably a lot of pressure on
the first time you actually see each other right because it all comes down to that you've already
invested so much time yeah so pressure's on what'd you guys end up doing for your date we had a really nice time going to a build your own pizza place
build your own pizza oh that's cool i love those places i always put all artichokes and that's it
just pile on the artichokes that's my specialty on a date yeah well i've done it before with
veggies old press girls so wait no like build your own pizza like the subway style where you
tell them to put everything on?
No, it's a place where you literally like you need the dough.
There's a topping bar.
You pick out what you put on the pizza.
So the dough is like pre-made.
You just need it. And you just put the stuff on top of it and they cook it for you.
That's still awesome. I want to do this.
But what did you think when you saw him for the first time?
Like did he match up to his pictures?
Was there chemistry?
There was pizza in the room.
Nothing else matters except the pizza. mean so he looked great um he wasn't as into the pizza
as i was like not in a bad way but just in a like oh he could tell it was my thing got it i mean we
can tell that yeah i like it okay and so the pizza came out and and he was very nice, and he said, you know, you worked so hard on it.
Why don't you take the first bite?
And I was just, right?
Like, so polite.
So you're the one that has to burn the roof of your mouth?
Oh, no.
Smart move.
I mean, it's always the first bite, right?
I mean, that is exactly what happened.
Oh.
Oh, this is where the burning comes in.
Oh, my God.
I thought it was just spicy burning.
I forgot. So, no. So I thought it was just spicy burning. I forgot.
Oh, no.
So I took a bite, and it was so hot.
It was so hot that I had to spit it out.
Like a child who was eating something that they didn't like the taste of.
Oh, my God.
That is the worst when it's actually blistering.
And the cheese is, like, stuck on the roof of your mouth, and you can't get it off.
How did Dennis react when that was happening?
I mean, he was so sweet.
He was trying so hard to help.
At one point he reached across the table and tried to like put water in my mouth.
It was just making a mess.
And the pizza was ruined and it was fine.
But we kind of just decided to call it for dinner and just
go for a walk oh my god and you're like distracted because like literally blisters are forming on the
roof of your mouth also you're talking like this the whole time because you don't want to like can
i have a cup of ice yeah so bad sometimes you have the excess skin i know let's not talk about
was the walk okay let's focus on the walk how'd the walk go
so the walk seemed fine he walked me to his car and of course he has a first aid kit and he he
gets out he gets out some gauze what are you gonna do with gauze it's on the inside of your mouth
he insisted that i put it on the roof of my mouth. What? I'm guessing that he's not a doctor.
Yeah.
He's trying.
He's trying.
He's trying to help.
He's trying to help.
I've been the one who's made a fool of myself at this point,
so I just kind of go with it.
Oh, no.
Like, no.
Spray some lidocaine in your mouth.
I know.
I was going to ask, did he put, like, ointment in there?
Like, what did he do?
No, it was just, like, a neosporin kind of ointment.
So it kind of sounds like the burn was the focal point of the whole night.
It kind of ruined your momentum, if anything.
Yeah.
You guys were focused on that too much, you think?
I mean, I would have loved to have not focused on it,
but it didn't seem to be the problem because we walked up to like a playground essentially
we were just kind of sitting and chatting and of course like me chatting was a little difficult
but like he said he wanted to kiss me and he was so sweet and i was like you know my mouth is
damaged there's literal gauze in it how are you gonna kiss me
did you kiss him anyway?
He kept getting closer to my face, and he was so sweet.
And so I just kind of turned over my shoulder and spit out the gauze.
Oh, no.
And then you kissed him?
He was still into it, guys.
That's the thing.
He was into it, and we had this amazing kiss, and it didn't tickle.
I have a weird feeling about it
come on he was into you though that's what the important thing is it says a lot that it was still
nice if you have chemistry through all that that's actually really good are you telling me he hasn't
called you or anything after that so here here's where I'm so confused.
Because we were texting for like three or four days after.
And then all of a sudden, he just drops off the face of the earth.
What?
And, you know, his bumble is gone.
Like the profile is gone.
Oh, when he got a message in?
That's not a good sign.
What was the last thing you guys talked about?
I mean, the last thing we talked about was trying to set up a second date. Oh. Oh, that's so weird. That's not a good sign. What was the last thing you guys talked about? I mean, the last thing we talked about was trying to set up a second date.
Oh.
Oh, no.
Oh, boy.
Maybe there's another woman that he's stuffed gauze into her mouth.
That's exactly what I was thinking.
I'm like, oh, he's married.
He's in a relationship.
He's cheating.
Or instead of a first-degree burn, she got like a third-degree burn, so she's way more
attractive.
Hotter, yes.
He likes burn victims.
As hot as it can get.
Well, we'll see what happens.
Let's play a song.
We'll come back.
We'll call Dennis for you, and we'll try and get you a second date update, okay?
Okay, thank you.
All right, hold on.
Second date update.
I could just see Julie, years from now, telling this story to her grandchildren about how she met Grandpa.
And she says,
Then he looked deep into my eyes, stroked my cheek, and said, I want to kiss you. And she says, then he looked deep into my eyes, stroked my cheek and said, I want to kiss you.
And I replied, okay.
Ew.
So gauze?
No.
And that's how love lasts forever.
I don't think so.
Because at the time, Julie's mouth was stuffed with gauze after she burned it on a build-it-yourself pizza.
Which makes the kiss sound so dry.
Yeah.
Doesn't it?
It really does.
But in her defense, I think we've all ended up with weird stuff in our mouths at the end of a first date.
So even though the night ended on a sweet note, Dennis has suddenly stopped responding and even took down his dating profile.
I don't think it's a successful date unless you don't have something weird in your mouth.
That's a good point.
It's a rule of mine.
Not great signs at the end there.
Julie, how you feeling?
I mean, I just want to know what the heck is going on.
I'd be mad.
I'd be mad if I were you
just because you spent so much time talking to this guy.
And it's his fault.
He didn't even take the first bite.
And he was being so sweet,
like leading you down this road where it
really felt like you were starting something with him is i'm pissed okay well i would recommend not
being mad at him when we get him on the phone because would you it's probably not gonna go well
if you're just mad at a guy if you actually want to see him again but that's brooke's strategy you
can do whatever you want to do anyway i'm gonna'm going to dial his number now. We'll see what he has to say. Okay. Okay. I really hope this works out. I just, I feel like they don't
make them like this anymore. Yeah, no, you're right. There's not a lot of guys anymore who
just carry gauze on themselves these days, but, uh, we'll see what he has to say. Here we go.
Unless they're driving an ambulance. That's true.
Hello?
Hey, is this Dennis?
Speaking.
Hey, Dennis, my name's Jeff from the radio show Brooke and Jeffrey in the Morning,
or some people call it Brooke and Jeffrey in the Morning.
No.
What up?
Don't help out.
On mornings from 6 to 10.
On your dial.
Start your commute right with brooke and jeffrey
jeffrey jeffrey jeffrey why are you guys doing that have you heard of us before maybe um not
not really if it was that that rang a bell for people we have to question i mean everything
i don't know he hasn't heard of us so the marketing whatever we're doing right now is
not working but uh we're calling because we're doing right now, is not working.
Okay.
But we're calling because we're doing a segment called the Second Date Update.
And one of our listeners trying to get a hold of you after you guys went out together, her name's Julie.
Yeah, yeah, Julie.
You say that so casually.
Julie's great.
I really like Julie.
Good.
Okay.
That's good to hear. Good. Okay. That's good to hear.
Yeah.
Okay.
I guess we're a little bit confused because according to Julie, you guys haven't really been communicating lately and you also removed your dating profile.
Yeah, you know, to be honest, I have been on social media. I had to delete my profiles and everything.
All your profiles?
Yeah, well, okay. So first, let me just say this.
We had a great time.
I think Julie's great.
There was nothing wrong or any problems with that.
I guess it's kind of
just inopportune timing.
Why?
Because you're like married
or something?
No, that would be really creepy.
The last 10 years of marriage
went a little in our mood.
Went to the worst case scenario.
It just seems so weird.
Like she told us that you guys have been talking for three or four weeks.
You finally meet up.
You have this amazing date, according to her.
I mean, maybe you felt differently, but it sounded great.
And then you talk for a minute and then you just dropped off.
Yeah, I know.
I can understand that.
And there is fact to that.
There is truth to that.
I've just I don't know.
I mean, I'm in a spot right here.
So let me explain what's going on and we can go from there.
Sure.
What's happening, man?
So, unbeknownst to me, a friend of mine, he kind of signed me up for this popular Netflix dating show.
Is it Love is Blind?
Oh my God, is it Love is Blind?
We probably can't talk about it.
Because whenever you do those
you have to do like an nda so that you don't spill the secrets before you do it so let me know is it
love is death yeah oh no is it is wait have you been selected have you gone through the casting
process yeah so that's kind of what i'm getting to so apparently they've had a lot of people that are um signing up for this and they're looking to
pick 12 and right now i'm in the top 20 oh wow according to them and i've talked to the producers
and everything and i've even submitted my deposit for it and wait deposit i thought you they paid
you to do these things so i guess how it works is you get your deposit back in the end because
you know they need photo and video of you and everything so if you take people to come out and do interviews
you pay them yeah why are you sure this is like a netflix show or is some random person asking to
do this yeah i mean my friends apply you know they they i don't know i've never done this before i
don't know you know i think everybody in this room right here,
we're a little concerned you're getting scammed.
Yeah, because when you work with SAG and stuff,
they don't work like that. Do you know where your friend found this show?
Where he came across this opportunity?
I mean, she said Craigslist.
Wait.
Oh, no.
No.
Yeah.
I don't know.
Is Netflix advertising on Craigslist right now?
I doubt it.
Probably not. Wait, how much money have you given these people? Yeah. I don't know. Is Netflix advertising on Craigslist right now? I doubt it.
Dennis.
Wait, how much money have you given these people?
Yeah.
The initial deposit was $1,500.
Whoa.
$1,500 for pictures?
You better be flying to Tahiti for those pictures. Wait, have you taken pictures?
No, not yet.
Oh.
It's before the pictures.
Oh, my God.
Dennis.
I was jealous, and now I'm'm not that's not how it works
my friend believe me this is real i mean i've talked to producers over zoom i saw them they
gave me the rundown of you know how this whole thing works and so i'm kind of dealing with this
right now and it's kind of a lot and we have ndas you're not supposed to say anything or you know
even in terms of being online for dating websites and stuff.
You know, we had to get off of those, which is why I deleted all my profiles and everything.
And Julie and I had a wonderful time.
You know, I've been wanting to reach out to her.
I just don't know if that's OK.
Yeah.
Well, the good news is you don't have to think about how to do it anymore.
Because, Dennis, I got to tell you, Julie's been on the other line listening this entire time yeah i didn't okay i didn't know julie was on the
phone yeah julie hi dennis hey um i'm sorry about not reaching out to you i've just i've been kind
of confused as to what to do and uh the reason why I did it is I feel like this could be a huge opportunity
for me and my career.
Dennis, I'm going to be honest with you,
but like you didn't handle any aspect of this well.
It kind of sounds like you're being an idiot about it.
It's not really nice.
Okay.
Which part of it seems skeptical to you, Julie?
Which part doesn't?
I mean, maybe the part where he gave $1,500 to a random person on Craigslist.
Huh.
Are you telling me that's not a normal thing to do?
Jeffrey.
I'll be honest with you.
I mean, I can hear the tone in your voice,
and I think it's going to be a lot funnier when I'm on Netflix
and y'all are watching me on TV. Oh, dude and I think it's going to be a lot funnier when I'm on Netflix and y'all are watching me
on TV. Oh, dude, I hope
it's true. They do make shows about people who got
scammed. Sorry, take it on that.
He's going to be on another Netflix show.
It might not be the other Netflix show you were thinking.
Dennis, we're not trying to, like, you know,
poop on your career band or your dreams.
Like, we like that. We want you to dream
big. We just want you to not get taken.
In the meantime, you're ruining chemistry with a really good chick who likes you vicariously.
I know.
Julie has been saying great things about you this entire time, man.
Well, thank you.
I mean, I feel the same about her.
I just feel this is a great opportunity for me right now.
And if it is the case and it's either I don't get picked or something happens with the show,
then yeah, I would love to go out with her.
I forgot to mention it, but this is the point of the segment where I need to get picked, or something happens with the show, then yeah, I would love to go out with her.
I forgot to mention it, but this is the point of the segment where I need to get your credit card.
Because it costs $1,500 to do a second date.
Not a lot of people know that.
He's right.
I mean, if the right things are going right now,
would you mind throwing me an extra $1,500?
I mean, she got you on a radio reality dating show.
That's right.
You sound like a bunch of comedians.
I am.
Thank you very much.
That's a very nice thing of you to say.
Okay.
I don't know if it's a compliment
coming from you.
It doesn't mean we're good comedians, guys.
It doesn't mean we're comedians.
I'm not joking at all
when I say I would really like
to send the two of you out
on another date
and we will pay for it.
If you're interested. What do you say, Dennis? I mean, yeah. I would really like to send the two of you out on another date and we will pay for it. If you're interested.
What do you say, Dennis?
I mean, yeah, I would really like that.
Again, I have to see about protocol for it.
But, I mean.
Oh, you're going to vet us?
Is that what you just said?
He doesn't believe that we're legit.
No, he doesn't know if he's allowed to go on a date with her.
Yeah.
Of course.
Yeah, I don't think they're going to be answering you anytime soon.
Well, you know,
if that's the case,
then yeah,
I would love for you
to pay for us to go out again.
You're going to need
a free meal.
Okay, Julie,
it's a conditional yes
based on what
the producers say.
What's it for you?
I mean,
if he's going to wait around
for the Craigslist guy
to give him permission
to take me on a second date
then it's not really worth my time he's not just a craigslist guy he's a producer that's on craigslist
brooke and jeffrey in the morning they say when you're, it's important to find somebody that has a good financial sense.
Right?
Why are you laughing?
Because that guy did it.
Might have been a little bit off, but at least you found a guy who's investing in himself.
I don't think he is, though. Might be investing in some guy named Gary off of Craigslist, but he's an investor of some sort.
I would say he's trustworthy.
Would be an admirable trait to a fault.
Loyal, definitely.
Not Jaden's, like we are.
You could just tell in Julie's voice
that it couldn't have been a bigger
turn off that he was giving money
to some guy off Craigslist hoping to become famous.
Oh, God. And he just
really thinks it's going to be his career jump off.
No matter what we said, he wouldn't
believe us. You could hear in his head, like it didn't click yet.
You know, he hasn't had that moment of like, wait a minute.
I don't think that moment's going to come for him.
I honestly don't.
How much money do you think it's going to take before it happens?
Another $1,500 at least.
I would like to think, though, that we're going to log on to Netflix here in the next year.
And we're all going to say, oh, we were wrong.
That'd be some really sketchy business by Netflix, by the way.
It's like Squid Game for dating.
Oh, there he is.
I'd watch that show.
He got a flight to Korea.
No wonder he spent so much money.
Remember, if you ever want to get a second date update, email the show.
We'll call the person who was in college back.
Ugh, we're so done with new year, new you.
