I feel like a lot of times when we know we have a big date coming up, we psych ourselves out. We get really nervous in the lead up and you try so hard to look good and sound cool and smell good that we try and we end up blowing it. Are you saying, should you be using I in all this? It's we.
Starting point is 00:02:14 Okay. We as in me and the listeners. Okay. Okay. Got it. You know, sometimes it's better to not even know the date's coming up. And that's what happened to one of our listeners who said she never planned on going out with a guy that night.
Starting point is 00:02:27 Oh, wow, that's the best. But it turned out to be one of the best days of her entire life. Aww, that's cute. Her name's Lorna. Lorna, welcome to the show. Hi, guys. How are you? Oh, my God, I hate that he's not calling you back, but I'm so excited to hear what happened. Yeah, it was so electric.
Starting point is 00:02:44 I've really been, like, riding on this, like, high since I met him. to hear what happened. Yeah, it was so electric. I've really been riding on this high since I met him. He was so great. I don't know, it was just really unexpected. Okay. Let's start from the beginning. What's the guy's name? Mike. Mike, okay.
Starting point is 00:02:56 And where were you? Set the scene for us. I was actually on the bus on my way home from work. Okay. Not what I was expecting. Me neither. I was going to have thought that we were going to be somewhere more romantic, but that's okay. Hey, the bus on my way home from work okay not what i was expecting me neither i was going i thought we were going to be somewhere more romantic but that's okay hey the bus can be romantic especially especially after one in the morning she's like anyway a homeless toothless
Starting point is 00:03:14 man walked in so what happened with you and mike on the bus so he got on and he sat like a few feet away from me sort of across from me but we made eye contact oh yeah hottie at two o'clock he actually got up and came in sat next to me that's a power move right there you don't make it he made it obvious i know he didn't like secretly stalk you for several days and follow you on your social media that's what i would do she doesn't know it was secret so maybe that had been happening but good on him for just coming over to you. Was your heart like beating out of your chest when he sat down? Yes, because he just took this initiative.
Starting point is 00:03:53 It was just like a bold move. It was so natural and organic. It really caught me off guard. And we just started chatting and we were laughing. He was hilarious. He totally made me laugh. Wow. I mean, you're totally made me laugh. Wow. I mean, you're really gushing about this guy.
Starting point is 00:04:08 I'm sorry, I know. Did you guys move this to a date somehow or was the bus hangout the only time you've been with him? The bus actually broke down. No. Worst luck ever. The universe is telling her that they need more time together. Oh, wow. Cupid shot the bus right in the motor. The universe is telling her that they need more time together.
Starting point is 00:04:28 Cupid shot the bus right in the motor. I hope Cupid pays for that. Okay. Bus breaks down. It does. It breaks down. And like the bus driver was like working on it for like 20 minutes and he couldn't get it going. So out of nowhere, he was like, I want to go on an adventure.
Starting point is 00:04:46 And I was like, yeah, I do. Oh, wow. What does that mean? I didn't know what he had in mind. But, you know, we got off the bus and we just started walking. And we passed this street cart. This guy was like selling you kebabs, bought me a kebab. That's fun.
Starting point is 00:05:01 We walk into the playground. We just started goofing around and pushing me on the swings. I jump on the slide and I like slide down and he just kind of met me at the bottom and we like kissed at the bottom of the slide. It was dark. You made sure you were kissing him, right? Like a random kid left over. It was really romantic and the kiss was just so amazing and it seemed like he didn't want the date to end. And he actually invited me back to his place.
Starting point is 00:05:29 Okay. So you knew he was single then? Well, I was hoping that he was single. And, well, nobody was back at his place. So, yeah. Oh, there you go. You went over. Oh, yeah.
Starting point is 00:05:38 We went back and we just continued hanging out. And we were just laughing. We shared another little kiss. And it was really the perfect date because the connection was crazy strong. Okay. It was great. So, I mean, that's a pretty huge night that you've described to us.
Starting point is 00:05:52 What's happened since then? He asked me to meet up a few days after that and I get ready and I show up and he's not there. What? He stood you up? Completely, no show at all all he just didn't show like what it's just i can't understand how the guy that i spent like six hours with and had such
Starting point is 00:06:14 an epic day with just didn't show up it just doesn't make sense so i don't know i've been trying to get a hold of him and he's totally mia and what.a and what do you think what what do you what are you thinking i mean i hope that he's okay i hope that nothing happened listen you know there could be something going on and going on in his personal life i i had no idea what's going on it just it doesn't make sense and you don't like instantly jump to he's married with a whole family somewhere that sounds like Brooke went there. Now I am. Good job, Brooke. It feels too good to be true, right? Yeah, it really does. I mean, maybe that's the jaded side of me.
Starting point is 00:06:51 Right. I mean, for somebody that's that smooth and that confident. Exactly. That you met on a bus. On a bus that just happens to break down in the fun part of town. I mean, it just seems too serendipitous almost. What if he sabotaged the bus? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:07:06 I know that's crazy to say, but we've heard crazier things on this segment before. I mean, what are you hoping to hear from him? Honestly, that maybe he got overwhelmed or maybe he just got really busy with work or something and lost track of time. Like he's been spending the last four days picking out the perfect engagement ring. No, that's the opposite problem. Okay, well, maybe somewhere in the middle then. Okay, we'll play a song.
Starting point is 00:07:36 We'll come back and we'll try and get a second date update with your dream guy. The dream guy from the bus. Yes, please, yes, please, thank you. your dream guy. Oh my God. The dream guy from the bus. All right? Yes, please. Yes, please. Thank you. Okay.
Starting point is 00:07:50 And if we get his wife on the line, then I'll hang up. No! We'll do it right after this. Hold on. Second Date Update. Broken down buses, impromptu adventures, street kebabs, and playground kisses with full-grown men even. I mean, this second date update has everything. The only thing we need now is to get Mike on the phone and ask him,
Starting point is 00:08:18 Hey, brah, why you leave Lorna hanging, brah? It was the best date of her life, brah. Not cool, brah. No, I'm just warning you. I could get pretty contentious. Oh, that's contentious. That's me getting in a bad mood. Come on, bro. If he doesn't have a good explanation.
Starting point is 00:08:28 It's why people don't fight you, because they're confused. That's right. As what's happening. You don't want to come at me in a dark alley, bro. You may befriend me. Okay, no. Please stop. Oh, okay.
Starting point is 00:08:37 Well, maybe I'll just play it chill when we call Mike and ask him, why aren't you talking to Lorna after what she describes as one of the best nights of her life? We loved it. We heard it and thought it was beautiful. How are you feeling right now, Lorna? Nervous. Yes. I mean.
Starting point is 00:08:53 I just want to know. Absolutely. Absolutely. And more than anything, you want a second date, right? Yes, exactly. What else would she want? Well, I don't know. She said she just wanted to know.
Starting point is 00:09:04 I just wanted to make sure. She just wants to know where I just wanted to make sure that she was still into this. She just wants to know where that street kebab vendor was so she can go back and have another meal. She could be angry. I mean, he stood her up. I'd be mad. All right. Well, then, yeah, you would. Okay.
Starting point is 00:09:14 Well, let's just do this. I'm going to dial Mike's number, and we're going to see if he answers and what he has to say for himself. Are you ready? Very. Yeah. Okay. Here we go. I'm dialing his number right now.
Starting point is 00:09:36 Hello? Hey, is this Mike? Yeah, who's this? My name's Jeff from the radio show Brooke and Jeffrey in the Morning, but I'm going to do the questions from here on out, okay? Whoa. Wait, what? Who's this? My name's Jeff from the radio show Broken Jeffrey in the Morning, but I'm going to do the questions from here on out, okay? Whoa. Wait, what?
Starting point is 00:09:48 Who's this? We're a morning radio show, and we're calling on behalf of one of our listeners named Lorna. Okay. Do you know who Lorna is? Yeah. Okay. That's good.
Starting point is 00:10:01 Well, yeah, I mean, it's good that you know her, but what's not good is that you're not calling her back after what she described to us as a really great date. Well, that's just not calling her back that you stood her up. Oh, boy, what is happening? Okay, well, this is something that we do on our show called the Second Date Update. And so we're trying to help Lorna out. And we're not trying to attack you.
Starting point is 00:10:23 Like, she's not super angry. She's a little upset, but... Yeah, we're not trying to, you. Like, she's not super angry. She's a little upset, but... Yeah, we're not trying to, but we might. I'm just warning you. If it happens, bro. I mean, we're hoping that you have just, like, a really reasonable... Just a reasonable explanation for what's going on. Wow.
Starting point is 00:10:39 Okay, so I don't even really know what to say here. Okay. Okay, we'll just say the reason why you're not calling her or showing up to the dates that you plan. No, he means it's hard to say, right? Did you like Lorna? Listen, I don't know why you guys are asking me all these questions when she's the one that's, like, she's called me 200 times. Whoa! Whoa, you said 200?
Starting point is 00:11:05 Are you exaggerating? That's a lot of times. Yeah, is that exaggerating or is that a real number? At least that amount. Whoa. Oh, my God. Like, wait. In like a four-day period?
Starting point is 00:11:15 Yeah, since when? Dude, it could be a 10-year period. I know, it's a lot. I don't think I've called my mom that many times. Just trying to find a reason here. here yeah it's been like a few days and i'm on a work trip right now i'm not even in town oh like an actual work trip or like a work trip like an actual work trip like with my company okay like i mean it was within 30 minutes of her leaving originally and she kept calling me i was in the shower and she already called me like five times.
Starting point is 00:11:48 Oh my gosh. And I never actually had the chance. I was going to call her back. But then I realized she just kept calling. Okay. And like now it's just to the point of crazy. And I don't really even want to talk to her to be honest. Well, hold on.
Starting point is 00:12:01 Because we talked to her and she said that you two were supposed to meet up you told her to come meet you for another date and then you didn't show up to that what in the world no we didn't okay so i said we can meet up again some time like we never set an actual time or a place or anything like that just okay there's obviously a big discrepancy here because she's saying something different. You're saying this. I'm not even dealing with the hundreds of phone calls that you've been missing. So why don't we just sort this out right now and have you talk to her? Because she's on the other line.
Starting point is 00:12:38 I know, but it's a safe space. I mean, and obviously. I hope so. Are you kidding? There's a recording of it, if anything else, for legal purposes i'm sorry she's she's here uh lorna you there hey mike whoa you haven't been answering me oh dang lorna are you married or do you have another family like why did you lie to me? Was she not listening? I don't know.
Starting point is 00:13:06 She was too busy calling. Morna, this is highly manipulative. No, it's not. You were the manipulative one. No, no, no. When you were calling me originally, like, that was red flag material. I thought you were a little crazy,
Starting point is 00:13:22 but now you are all the time. I am not crazy. I am not crazy. I am not crazy, Mike. You said that we should hang out. I came over and I made you food and you never showed up. Wait, you went over to his house? Is that what you just said? Wait, what the f***?
Starting point is 00:13:38 He told me his favorite food was enchiladas. I learned how to make them. I showed up and he never showed up hold on hold on hold on you showed up to my apartment yes i'm here right now and you're not here you're in his apartment yes that is breaking and entering you said that we should hang out and i could come over and I did that. And that time is now. Okay. Yeah. Some men like bold women. No, no,
Starting point is 00:14:10 you like you broke into you. What you're doing is illegal. I would never break into anyone's house. I was here. The apartment manager saw me. He asked me what I was doing here. I said that I had plans to hang out with Mike and he was like, Oh,
Starting point is 00:14:22 and he let me in. Mike, are you on the phone with authorities right now, or are you still there? Yeah, okay, so I don't understand how you are a human adult and you don't get this. You don't just come over somebody's apartment. Okay, sure, I said let's hang out sometime. I didn't say let's hang out at this exact time
Starting point is 00:14:41 you were supposed to come over. Well, Mike, then maybe it should have been a little bit more specific. Stop it, Jeffrey. Stop it. Lorna, you never enter someone's home when they're not there. You have to leave, Lorna. I am not leaving.
Starting point is 00:14:54 And you need to shut your damn mouth. Oh, OK. Well, she's in. I am here. I am waiting. Mike, I need some answers. I need to understand why you would completely flip the story. You have like, what do you have, two personalities?
Starting point is 00:15:07 This is crazy. That's quite the accusation. Look, it sounds like you have two personalities. You know, you say you're waiting for me. I'm on a business trip. I just told you that. But you know who you're waiting for? You didn't tell me that.
Starting point is 00:15:18 You didn't tell me you were going out of town. Is it bad I'm enjoying this? Yeah, the tensions are getting really high. We have to cool things down. Let's go back to the playground. No, let's not. I'm honestly scared for Mike. We're going back to the enchiladas now.
Starting point is 00:15:34 No, that doesn't sound good. Oh my god, I can't afford it. I like it. This all started with a miscommunication. A very big miscommunication. No communication. He has completely gone from being so all about me, wanting me to spend the night. Okay.
Starting point is 00:15:50 Well, Mike, you hear that? You need to work on your communication more. Of course. Okay? What you are not. It's not about my communication. Mike, if you want this to work, you're going to have to talk to her. You're going to have to tell her how you feel.
Starting point is 00:16:03 No. He's being sarcastic, Mike. He's trying to make light. You better be sarcastic. You know what? I don't obviously want this to her. You're going to have to tell her how you feel. No. He's being sarcastic, Mike. He's trying to make light. You better be sarcastic. You know what? I don't obviously want this to work. We met one time, and now she's in my apartment when I'm not even there. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:16:13 What makes you feel like that's okay? Okay. Okay. You're flipping the story entirely. You didn't even want me to leave when I was there. We spent like eight hours together. I think that Mike may need to make some other phone calls right now. Oh, yeah.
Starting point is 00:16:27 Oh, I see what you're saying. He needs to make a phone call for dinner reservations. That's what you're saying. And that's a great idea because, Mike, we would love to send you out on another date and we'll pay for that. Don't. We have some good come-ons that we would love to do. Whatever you guys like.
Starting point is 00:16:39 Okay, listen. On us. I cannot believe you guys are shaking his side. I cannot. I'm taking both. I'm taking the side of love Look, here's my answer. Okay, get the f*** out of my house. Yeah, better not to touch anything of mine Nothing misplaced
Starting point is 00:16:53 That's deserved. I don't think we've had that answer before. That's deserved. What about the enchiladas? You want her to leave them or take them with you? They could be good. Like this is a serious thing, okay? Sorry. Yeah. Um, good luck buddy. And have a good business. Maybe block some numbers.
Starting point is 00:17:10 Yeah. We can give you this recording if you need it for your legals. Mike, I am really disappointed in you and I am not going to forget that. Oh, geez. Her tone. What the fuck? Man,
Starting point is 00:17:22 who would have thought meeting a stranger on the bus could end like this? Brooke and Jeffrey in the morning. Ugh, we're so done with New Year, New You. This year, it's more you on Bumble. More of you shamelessly sending playlists, especially that one filled with show tunes.
